    Movie Night

Post by Shaiamils on Fri Dec 22, 2017 11:05 am

    DATE: DECEMBER 22ND, 0008
    TIME: 7:45 PM

If the patrons of the Drive-In were to look up right about now, they would witness a sight to behold, that being a large avian figure with a very noticeable lump in his coat. As they would come to discover, he was actually carrying some very precious cargo. No, not that kind of cargo. The feathery alien landed and unzipped his coat, a fuzzy, much smaller alien jumping out of it.

Truth be told, Shaiamils had suggested that they take a taxi at first. He didn't want to think about what could happen if Anjeet fell out of his coat mid-flight. Still, the Jawa insisted that they do it this way. Clearly she just wanted an excuse to snuggle with him in his coat again. Everything turned out fine, though, thank goodness. She was still in one piece.

"What say we get ourselves some snacks?" the doctor suggested to his date, looking at the time on his phone. "We still have about fifteen minutes before the first movie starts."

    Date.

It was almost hard for the avian to believe that he was actually on a date tonight. Who would have thought that his future lover could have very well fallen through a portal this past June? Well, maybe lover was a strong word right now? They had only been "together" for just barely over a week. Still, what harm was there in hoping?

Anjeet shivered as she hopped out of the doctor's coat. Sooner or later, before the night was out, she was going to have to get back in that coat. Despite the cold, however, the Jawa was looking forward to tonight. She had never seen these "Rankin Bass" movies before, and apparently they were a holiday staple around here. With that in mind, the fuzzy alien was probably in for a treat. Speaking of treats...

"Mhm!" she replied, nodding as she rubbed her belly for emphasis. "That sound good. Anjeet getting hungry now."

And so the duo made their way to the concession stand. For the time being, they kept their distance, at least until they decided what they wanted. It would be really rude to get in line and make that decision right when it was their turn. Nobody wanted to be held up, right? Anjeet pointed at what she wanted on the menu, and Shaiamils agreed that it sounded good. Now it was time to actually get in line.

"Here you are, ma'am! Large popcorn with a caramel drizzle, two small hot chocolates, one order of chocolate chip cookies, and a hot dog!" The mech was hard at work behind the counter, gathering up the items and setting them down for the customers to grab. Definitely a hefty order for this young woman and her child. The kid was eyeing the cookies with shiny eyes, patiently waiting for the 'adults' to finish it up. Talons tapped across the keys to ring up the price. "That'll be 12 credits." The usual price would be 17, but one of the hot chocolates and the cookies were for the child, and it was almost a traditional discount by this point to offer goodies to them for free this close to Christmas! As soon as the mother dropped the credits into Knock Out's waiting palm, her son reached out to snag his styrofoam cup and the baggie of cookies. His mother held her bag of popcorn in the crux of her elbow, the cup in one hand and the foil wrapped hot dog in the other. He nodded his helm to them and waved as the two of them left, excitedly gibbering among themselves.

Next up was Anjeet and Shai, who he'd seen when they entered. An odd couple, definitely not one he predicted, but their little date was useful enough to him! Giving the two a wave of the servo, Knock Out leaned against the counter with a lazy grin. "Good to see you both! I hope you enjoy the movie for tonight." The mech winked before glancing to the menu on display behind his helm. "Do you know what you want for tonight?" He could already predict that Anjeet was going to buy a lot of food.

"Hey there, Knock Out. Nice to see you," Shai greeted the mech. "I'm pretty sure the both of us know what we want. We're actually going to be splitting a meal. We'll take one large bucket of popcorn with caramel drizzle, two pretzels, a bag of gingerbread cookies, and two alcoholic eggnogs. That's what you wanted, right Anjeet?"

The tiny alien looked up at him and nodded, to which he smiled in response. He was really starting to get the hang of understanding her, mostly.

"She's really been looking forward to this," the doctor said. "It's going to be the first time she's ever seen these movies."

Anjeet's stomach growled as her date put in their order. The Jawa had deliberately not eaten much today, knowing very well that she was going be having a big dinner tonight. It was really starting to show, too. She could not wait to get her fuzzy little mitts on the grub. Everything sounded delicious, and it was growing increasingly painful to have to wait on it.

The alien smiled warmly up at her partner, nodding as she confirmed the he had her order right. She could not be happier at the steadily improving communication between the both of them, as their language barrier had been one of her main concerns about their relationship from the get-go.

For the time being, Anjeet would cling to Shai's leg as they waited. Being so short, she couldn't really hug much above his legs unless he picked her up.

Shai was greeted with a nod, Anjeet with a wiggle of his talons. "Nice to see you both as well! You made good time." It was always nice when people figured out what they wanted before getting to the register. Keys clacked beneath his fingertips as Knock Out put in their orders. His assumptions had been correct about the appetite on that Jawa! Speaking of, she didn't do much aside from cling to Shai's leg. For the best, since the mech didn't quite understand her tongue. Ding! "That'll be 20 Credits!"

After the credits were handed over, Knock Out would begin to gather up the food. No harm in making some conversation as he did, right? "As far as Christmas specials go, these aren't so bad. I like the style." Two pretzels were plucked from the warmer and wrapped in tissue. As he set them upon the glass for the bird alien to take, the mech gestured at them with a point. "Do you want cheese?" Attention was redirected to a row of freshly baked cookies. Still warm! Knock Out used his handy dandy spatula to scoop up three gingerbread cookies and slide them inside of a baggie. He picked out three different cookies for the new couple. One was a typical gingerbread boy, with gumdrop buttons and frosting facial features. The second cookie was a smiling snowman, with a small Reese's cup as a top hat and a scarf made of a twizzler strand! The third was a snowflake with frosting and edible white glitter to make it stand out. The bag soon joined the pretzels on the counter top.

"Of tonight's movies, I prefer Rudolph. I feel for him, although when Santa decided that the deer was suddenly useful, I think Rudolph should have abandoned the North Pole to suffer and left to live with those toys. He's too good for them!" Knock Out remarked with a huff as he set about pouring the duo's eggnog.

"Alright, gotcha," Shai responded, forking over the credits to Knock Out. Once that was taken care of, he looked down to address Anjeet. "Do you want cheese with your pretzel, or no?"

The tiny alien shook her head at him.

"Yeah, I agree. The cheese sounds like it would clash with everything else. No cheese, thank you." The doctor smiled as the mech went on about which of the movies was his favorite, but rushed to cover his date's ears when he realized that he was going into too much detail. "Hey now, spoiler alert much? I told you that Anjeet hasn't seen these movies yet."

Shai removed his heads from her head.

"Sorry about that," he apologized to the Jawa. "We didn't need you hearing any spoilers, did we? Hm, say, can I cover your ears again for a second?"

Once the avian had permission, he covered her ears and spoke to the Cybertronian.

"Anyways, I know, right? The Rudolph movie kind of ticks me off, to be perfectly honest. His father is an asshole and so is Santa. I thought Santa was supposed to be nice! That's why I prefer that hand-drawn version you showed last year... Although his father in that one kind of creeps me out." The feathery alien removed his hands from Anjeet's head once more, grabbing the snacks. "Thanks, by the way."

"Thank you~" Anjeet said to her date between giggles, very much glad that he had protected her from any spoilers. It didn't seem that they were done talking yet, though, Shai asking if he could cover her ears again. She nodded up at him, not minding at all.

As the both of them chatted it up, the fuzzy alien kept her focus on their food on the counter. She could already smell it. The only thing left to wait for was their drinks. That familiar sensation built up in her stomach again. She was very much surprised that it didn't growl this time. Once again, the avian removed his hands from her head. Presumably the rest of their conversation was going to be spoiler-free.

It was a bit of a shame, really. She kind of liked having his hands on her head.

Cheese probably would be a bit too much. Especially combined with the caramel drizzle, the both of them would wind up with sticky hands! Nodding his helm to show that he understood, Knock Out continued to go about his job with a familiar sort of daze coming over him. The kind that creeps up whenever you're doing something you've done many times! It was only interrupted by Shai. "Hm?" The mech looked up, blinking back at the bird as he covered Anjeet's head with his hands. "Oh-! Sorry." What a faux pas! Might as well tell her about Bruce Willis being dead while he was at it, huh? He gave the alien a sheepish smile. "Won't happen again, promise."

Both Styrofoam cups were placed beside the rest of the gathered goodies, just in time for Shai to suddenly cover his date's ears again. Seems he wanted to vent a bit more about this movie! Knock Out smirked with no small amount of amusement. "I like the dentist elf and Yukon, but you're right. Santa's so jolly in the other movies I've seen of him! Maybe he was extra testy in this one because he was so skinny?" Who could have predicted that jolliness and weight were related?

The mech hummed in thought as he took his place at the popcorn machine. "You like that other one a lot? Then I'll remember to play it next year. You can suggest it in January if you want too. Anything for a loyal customer~!" He winked slyly before pinching a bucket between his talons. Freshly popped and lightly buttered popcorn was scooped into the bucket bit by bit until a few kernels began to spill out of the sides! Yummy. He lifted a ladle out of a sizable bowl, full of melted caramel! Bit by bit, he drizzled the sugary brown candy over the top of the popcorn until nearly every kernel on the top layer had been touched by the caramel. Nothing too artsy fartsy, but he was still quite proud of his efforts! "Last but not least, here you are! Enjoy the show~!" They were a bit of an odd couple but hey. More couples meant more date nights at the Drive In!
