    Date: October 30 0008

October...the tenth month in the human year. Vastly inferior to the Irken year, particularly due to the strange holidays. The worst of them all was the Halloween one, the date loomed over Zim's head like a knife on a chopping block! The worst holiday ever! All of the candy craving monsters that suddenly took to the streets, oh it was awful! Simply awful! The small alien hissed to himself at the memory of Halloween back in his world, eliciting a few odd looks. It wasn't every day that a tree hissed like a cat! But it wasn't a tree or a cat! It was the only member of the most superior species to walk through the streets of the city! It was...Zim!

Yes, the insect alien lay seated among the tree branches, eyes glinting and squinting through the leaves. From this position, he could see most everybody that had come to the park. With Halloween around the corner, he was on the lookout for any monsters that may arrive early! If he was lucky, maybe he could prevent the strange takeover. The citizens would be so happy, knowing their candy was safe! Perhaps he'd even demand a reward! Being appointed supreme leader of the world seemed a fair price to pay for slaying such terrible creatures! In fact, Zim was being generous. But alas, there was no sign of them so far. Children giggled and played on the death traps, ducks quacked and pooped wherever they wished, and others sat on the benches to read or enjoy the fresh autumn air. Tomorrow would see the Irken locked up tightly within his barbershop, so maybe he would enjoy this crisp air too!

Deciding to take a walk through the park once his shift was over with at the jeweler's Dominick was feeling both nervous and excited for what was to come the next evening for he and Nyreena were planning. He just hoped for her sake that things would go off without a hitch and their little scare would be the thing to make the night truly scary, as well as wonderful for everyone. Adjusting the coat he was wearing he wondered how cold it was going to get later on in the years as the rest of the holidays rolled around.

As he passed by the tree that Zim was in he suddenly stopped as his vampiric senses picked up on the Irken, making him unsure of what to make of it. Quickly getting on edge he looked around to see what he was picking up on, his eyes squinting as he felt his suspicons rise. But all he could see was the kids that were running around and playing and the adults who were enjoying the evening. This was a truly puzzling experience and he wasn't going anywhere until he figured out what it was.

Backing up and leaning against the tree he continued to scan the area for anything unusual that might be the cause. Glancing up for just a moment he noticed something odd and looked up again...and was perplexed by the big green head and the little body attached to it that was looking around as well. Finding it a bit odd he called up to it. "Are you sure you should be up there? You look like you might fall off any second and bruise your head on the way down."

Among those enjoying the crisp autumn air in the park was a certain monster, wearing a long black peacoat and a thick wool scarf around his neck keeping him warm. Randall had claimed a spot on a bench near the end, resting a hand on the armrest, the other holding a cappuccino, and his first set of hands held up a book that looked old and somewhat antique. Reading glasses adorned his face, golden rims and half-mooned shape that sat comfortably on his scaly face without worry of them falling from his face. Randall flipped the page of the old book, eyes focusing on the words, fading all noise out from around him until he heard someone ask another if they were okay. Without real concern, his emerald eyes glanced across the way to see... some guy, speaking to the little alien bug that worked in the barbershop.

It was always strange how a hairless alien decided to be a barber, having none of their own, yet seemed to do well enough to keep their business open. Randall wouldn't judge, of course, but it was still just an odd thing. The man, however, looked kind of like some 'heroic figure' from one of those RPG video games or whatever they were called. This was also odd. Whatever the case, Zim had been hiding up in a tree, glaring at everyone, probably unhappy with the holiday to come tomorrow. It was something they could relate to, at least. Randall found the holiday itself stupid and somewhat offensive to actual monsters, but then again, he made a nice bonus during October, November and December for his work at the bakery. Thus, he had little reason to complain, and merely grumbled every time he thought about it.

"Hey, Zim," Randall said casually, glancing up to the insectoid alien that glared at people in the tree. His attention barely made it to Dominick, to which he stated, "I'm pretty sure he's fine." Instead of making small talk, Randall merely returned to his book, rereading the page he had turned to for he had forgotten the last paragraph read.

Many of the individuals roaming through the park were shallowly noticed. They were merely a footnote in the Irken's mind! He was on the lookout for monstrous creatures and beings peddling for candy, not the typical fanfare that tended to visit this place. However, he couldn't quite ignore the young male that was drifting ever closer to the tree. Even to the point of leaning up against the firm trunk! Furrowing his brows, antennae flattened against his skull as gloved fingers clawed into the wooden branch. The alien leered down at the man, suspicious of his intent until finally, the human glanced up and addressed him! But how?! How could his espionage be noticed?! He bared his oddly shaped teeth at Dominick, about to speak before somebody else spoke up!

    "Hey, Zim,"

Two people noticed him! His cover was blown! The Irken grumbled, ejecting his PAK legs with a hiss of air and a click sounding from the mechanism on his back. Stabbing the tips into the bark, Zim slowly lowered himself until his entire head was poking down through the leaves and brush, and much easier to see. From this angle, he could better see the two rapscallions that dared to interrupt his incognito stealth mission! One was a human with poofy hair he'd never seen, the other was a heavily clothed and bespectacled creature that he recognized from the bakery. He didn't remember the reptile wearing glasses then, but he did seem to be reading, an activity which usually needed glasses for the inferior lifeforms that weren't blessed with Irken tech. "Hi!" Zim greeted back, hand popping out of the leaves to wave before he focused his attention back to the human. "He is correct! ZIM is FINE! I can stand a mere bruise on the head, BUT I WILL NOT FALL FROM THIS TREE! As for being here, ZIM WILL DO AS HE PLEASES! And he pleases to spy from the tree!"

As he waited for an answer from the little creature in the tree Dominick heard a new voice that had overheard and glanced over at the purple salamander like being that was sitting on a bench while reading a book. Listening as he said that the green one would probably be fine before returning to his book the dhamphir slowly nodded in agreement. Hearing the strange noise from above Dominick looked up as the green headed being used some sort of strange leg-like device to hang onto the branch he was on and pop his head down through the foliage to speak.

Though the way he spoke made him wince a bit at how loud he spoke in certain spot and spoke in the third person, which made him raise an eyebrow a bit at that. Certainly an....interesting way of speaking but usually not the usual way of having a conversation with someone. "Well, I'm not one to deter anyone from what they want to do. I was just making a simple observation. I had no intention of making you do something you didn't want to do or ask to come out of the tree for your safety. From what I see you have that pretty much taken care of."

Randall forgot just how jarring Zim's voice was upon hearing it once more. He lightly cringed, eye twitching a bit and crest lowering just a hair as the Irken corrected Dominick's concern. The young man retorted, stating he wasn't about to ask the alien to do what he didn't want to do, though really, it was kind of bland and didn't interest Randall in the slightest. "Hm," the monster grumbled, adjusting the book in his hand and taking a small drink of the warm coffee. There wasn't much in the way of small conversation, as engaging the alien would probably result in a "buzz off" or seem rude and nosy. But really, what else was there to do? Zim probably didn't really mind talking to the monster despite his harshness towards the young man with large hair.

"Spy anything good up there? Or just the usual boring scenes?" Randall asked without even a hint of curiosity in his voice, the question purely to entice the Irken into something he may enjoy... which, he figured, was talking down about the humans and other lesser species of this place. Better to roll with it than to dismiss it, he thought, as Zim seemed like he was powerful, or at least had a lot of high-tech tricks up his sleeve. Definitely not a person the monster wanted to get on the bad side of. Dominick, if he were smart, would do the same, and keep the Irken amused and 'happy'.

"I had no intention of making you do something you didn't want to do or ask to come out of the tree for your safety. From what I see you have that pretty much taken care of."

Strange. The (as far as he knew at least) human man was puzzling. If he did not intend to exert his will upon Zim, or ask him to come down, why did he speak up? Shiny pink eyes narrowed, distrusting this male. Then again, when was the last time he really had trust in somebody? "What WERE your intentions, pitiful human?!" As far as he was concerned, Dominick could have any intent for speaking up! Fingers stroked his own chin, the Irken falling into silence for but a moment before he snapped his fingers together with a light squeak of leather. "Aha! Were you confused? I'd be confused to find the great and almighty ZIM roosting in a tree like a bird! My stealth and intellect knows no boooounds..." What a lovely first impression.

Glancing back to the monster on the bench, Zim redirected his gaze back to the park. Heads were counted up, tallying the people he'd been watching over before and accounting for any new arrivals. Not much had changed, meaning his cover wasn't blown yet! Perhaps he could spare a few minutes of recon to communicate. You know, like normal people do. "Eh, the usual." He groaned, flippant and a little resigned for once. But of course it didn't last very long. "ZIM is on a top secret mission, of the UTMOST importance! Aaand the mission is...boring. But! Boring! Is good!" Despite hanging upside down, the alien still managed to keep the same manic look in his eye that stared out at his companions wildly.

Easily noticing how Zim's eyes narrowed at him Dominick easily saw that as a sign of mistrust, since he wasn't a stranger to it from how much he got it back in his time on his travels. Wincing a bit again at how the little green guy accentuated a part of his question he was about to retort something back when Zim had finished stroking his chin for a moment and spoke once again. Well, he....almost had it on the money. Making himself calm down from the sudden rush of anger and frustration that had decided to try and seize him and take over he figured that it would be best to just let the little guy be appeased and not make this a bigger deal than it needed to be. Though, it was going to be....interesting as to how to go about it. But he had a pretty good idea on how to start. "Mmm, perhaps I was. After all, it's the first time seeing someone like you up there and not the standard bird that uses a tree either as a perch or as a home. And of course not. You already have the perfect camouflage to help you easily blend in with the brush and not even be detected."

As Dominick listened to Zim converse with the monster he was starting to get a bit more curious about what this "mission" was really all about but was just a tad bit hesitant to ask for the more...finite details and just let them be of Zim's knowledge for now.
