Maybe the Sanctuary isn't the best place to live....

”Okay, Creamer just…just stay here, yeah? Just, right here, no screaming. The last time there was an adorable place that I was excited about, it turned out that there were-“ ”There were wards that would burn your brain and me, yes, I remember.”

The demon looked down at the fidgeting woman before him, squinting one of his great eyes at the way she huffed and placed her hands upon her hips. As if she could possibly hope to intimidate him. The only power she had was that of those she surrounded herself with, none on her own.

Creamer scoffed, looking away from Bailey finally and towards the building in question. He didn’t care for the human’s decisions, he didn’t care for her movements but if this, finally, would get her away from that “Sanctuary” place and from that disgusting excuse for a cat then he would go along with it.  Perhaps he’d finally be able to get some progress on how to get out of this awful world.  Looking again at her, Creamer said nothing more. The sooner she got away from that…Lunette, yes that’s the name, the sooner Bailey was removed from that cat’s protection the better it would be for him.

The woman’s discovery of further details into her childhood had left him feeling…on edge. Already the bitch had told the robot, and then that freak of creation that she was spending so much time around. Neither of them had done anything.  Creamer did not think his string of good luck would in any way help him if the cat was told. Perhaps she was too weak to harm him, but if she called Fear…

The demon stared silently across the street, sitting himself down outside of the establishment much like a dog. A dog which, as it stood by Bailey’s side, was practically radiating smugness. He hated that dog.

”…well…okay. I’m glad that you do. Ailbe and I will just…yeah. Don’t run off.” With that awkward exchange over, Bailey looked down at her Favorite Furry Companion and gave a gentle tug on his leash, prompting him to stand up beside her. “I didn’t see any ‘no-pets’ signs, so I think we’re good to go in together, Ailbe.”  Ailbe huffed beside her and nudged his head against her leg. He didn’t often completely understand what his owner was talking about, but he could tell she was nervous. Ailbe was rather good at that.

With a deep breath, Bailey pushed open the door and entered the lobby of the Inn. Her eyes glanced around towards the desk and she froze, suddenly gripped by an all-too-familiar panic. Oh, what if she messed this up? What if she couldn’t get a room here because of Creamer? Would there be magic, would there just be people who could hear him? What if Creamer got her a noise violation and she got kicked out? Sure, she could just go back to where she’s been for the past month, but that wouldn’t make the situation any less humiliating. Oh, oh she didn’t think this through at all this was a TERRIBLE idea-

”wuff.”  Ailbe pressed his head against Bailey’s leg, before unceremoniously pulling the woman inside by the grip she had on his leash. ”Oof, Ailbe!”  Although she didn’t really appreciate almost tripping over her dog the moment that they got inside, Bailey was successfully knocked out of her little panic. All according to a certain doggy’s plan. The woman brushed her skirt off a bit nervously before taking another little breath and approaching the front desk.  She was a bit more pale than usual, due to that nervousness, but at least she was here! 1 point to Bailey!

”H-Hello-oh geeze.”  She took a deep breath, counted to three, and tried again at addressing the person at the desk. ”Hello!  I’d um, I’d like to see about getting a room here, please.”

There were two sure-fire ways to get Link's immediate attention at any given time, it was food, and animal companions.

Link saw the woman at the door first, but when the door swung open, his eyes went straight down to the dog companion and never left it. In fact, he looked a bit like a child being shown his Christmas present.

Awww! Cute puppy! Fluffy baby! Who's a cute puppy? There's a cute puppy! His eyes said, and when the woman approached the desk, the boy lunged eagerly over the desk, pretty much laid on it on his stomach and reached an hand down, stopping a few few inches from the dog's head because he remember it's more polite to ask before petting any cute doggies.

He lifted his head and gave the woman his best 'please, please, please, pretty please, pleeeeease' look.

Bailey stopped short, looking in bewilderment at Link as he seemed about ready to leap over the desk. The pale woman blinked, looking between him and Ailbe in confused little jerks. It took her a few moments to get past the fog of her own insecurity to understand that the presence of her dog was more important than her inquiry about housing.

Which...in all honesty made complete sense. It still took the woman a moment of staring into those pleading eyes before she came back to herself, blinking and just a bit confused. ”Do you want to um…pet him?”  She tilted her head a bit to the side as her question ended with a lack of surety. She had of course had people wish to dote on Ailbe before (Which he only had some problem with, depending on the person) but she had never had someone display this much…enthusiasm, that’s the word she was going to go for. After sharing a glance with a rather unenthused Ailbe, Bailey shrugged. ”Sure just, well, I mean you clear it with him first.”

The Irish Lurcher snuffed before approaching the outstretched hand, sniffing it a bit. Two big brown eyes were focused on Link before, with a wet snuff of his nose, he prodded the boy’s hand.  ”I uh, I think that’s good,t then…”

The woman answered his inquiring eyes with a question of her own, then suggested that he cleared it with the dog first. Link's eyes widened and he turned to the dog with eyes that shone even more hope than before (if possible) Clear it with the dog first? Does the dog have a clever mind like a human? He's almost expecting the dog to suddenly look all prim and address the issue of being petted in the snobbiest, poshest and overbearingly polite voice possible.

Unfortunately, nothing of the sort happened, the dog remained very dog-like and Link was granted permission with a wet nose touching his hand. The dog doesn't talk, but Link could care less at this point - he get to pet a new dog! That's all that mattered!

The boy gave a small laughed then proceed to give the dog all the head pats, scritches and scratches a person could possibly give whilst sprawled tummy-down on a reception desk. He pointed at the dog with his other free hand and very slowly, very carefully mouthed 'Name?' to the dog's owner.

Ailbe may not be up to voicing his opinion in a posh accent, but he was plenty smart otherwise. Bailey, and a few curious children, had learned the hard way that the dog did not appreciate being touched without it being cleared first. The chaser sat patiently as he was lavished with attention by this small, quiet child. Being such a big, shaggy dog he was not unused to people wanting to scratch behind his ears or tell him he was a good boy.

On occasions, a few strange humans had asked him how he escaped from Azkaban. He didn’t particularly care for those people, as they were the kind to only speak to him in order to make a point to Bailey. …well, it had only been one person, and that awkward flirting attempt from the thin male had made enduring the question completely worth it.

Bailey watched the exchange with growing confusion, before deciding that this was her life now. Well it’s better than getting kicked out of the lobby for being connected to a demon, and she could absolutely understand the urge to pet Ailbe. She pet him all the time, and that urge hadn’t lessened at all in the years that they were together. ”Oh! His name is Ailbe.”

'Aible,' mouthed Link, then returned to very happy dog petting. So fluffy. Much cute. Wow.

Just as it seems like Link had completely forgot about the dog-owner, he suddenly turned to her with the most curious and puzzled look that pretty much screamed 'question mark'. What was the lady here for again? Link honestly couldn't remember. She had said something when she came through the door, but her attention of so focused on her fluffy companion that her words had bounced clean off his head.

Were they lost? Were they going door-to-door to sell cookies? Were they here to visit someone? Were they one of those animal charity trust people wanting donations? Can the dog do any tricks? Paw? Play dead? Roll over? Fetch?

"Ah?" he sounded, hoping that coupled his expression could convey the message of 'soooooo, how can I help you? Apart from petting your dog?'

Bailey watched as the boy at the counter apparently got his fill of petting Ailbe. Again, the woman could hardly blame him for being distracted by the chaser. She knew he was cute, Ailbe knew he was cute, everyone knew. It was just a fact.

When his attention was directed to her, Bailey found her mind blanking. Shoot, what was she coming here to do again? The distraction was very effective. Okay, she came to the Inn, to....oh, yeah.

"Um, is this where I get a um...a room to stay in? I just got ah...here, about a month ago, and I was told that there are living spaces here?" She offered a nervous grin. She figured it was better to ask if there were rooms open in the first place before going into the details of her particular roommate situation.

“Aa!” Link confirmed with a nod. Lots of room available! In fact, too many rooms available! Link honestly don’t know what to do with so many empty rooms sometimes. It feels like a lot of wasted space. Maybe he should consider renting them out for other purposes, or just refurbish -  but that would be unfair to the existing tenants.

She was here for a month?! And only just came to the inn? Where had she been staying all this time, he wanted to ask. Was she lost? Was she staying with somebody and they decided they wanted her and her dog out now? Was she staying on the streets? Dozens of questions buzzed around in his head but only one was actually brought out into the open - he reached for his writing tablet, and using his fingers, wrote a message on its surface.

“Hello! Welcome! I’m Link, the innkeeper. We have 4 floors. Which would you like a room on?”

    [[I am SO SORRY]]

If Link had asked, he likely would have gotten a very long, rambling story about her happenings in the Breach. Particularly in the Sanctuary. He also would have probably heard about Korra, Fear, Scaramouch, Lunette, and the ever-present demon Creamer. He might have heard a lot about Creamer.

Fortunately for everyone involved, that story was not brought to the forefront! Bailey nodded in confirmation of Link’s confirming nod (why did she do that? She couldn’t say) and watched as he scrawled out another message. She read it before looking back at Link’s face with her ever-present nervous smile back in place.

”Hello! Uh, my name is Bailey, it’s nice to meet you! And, this is Ailbe but, you, already, I already told you that…” Smooth, Bailey. Smooth. Which floor? Well… Korra was on the 2nd floor, and as much as she would like staying around the other woman Bailey thought it might come off a bit creepy to get a room on the exact same floor. Korra might not, but Bailey would have to live with that knowledge that she was a creeper. She did not wish to be a creeper. ”Is there room available on the uh, the 3rd floor?”

You kidding? Link would have loved to hear a very long, rambling story. The boy lives for story time - unless it’s absurdly long with a plethora of historical numbers, in which case he’d very likely fall asleep somewhere along the way.

Was there room on the third floor? Oh, there was plenty of room. In fact, Link actually have a problem of having too many empty rooms. He felt bad having this many rooms in fact. The establishment was absurdly big. Who’s bright idea was it to make such a big building? It’s not like new people were arriving into this world by the ship-load at once, so why did they need this many rooms? Link wasn’t sure, it was already like this when he took it over. Perhaps he should consider downsizing the building….

He thought about all this as he pulled out a form and drew out a card key for Bailey. Congratulations, Bailey and Ailbe, it seems like you are now the proud tenants of room 328. You might not be on the same floor as Korra, but you are at least on the same side of the complex.

Link turned the form round for her to sign. It listed the few guidelines the inn had and at the bottom, a dotted line for a signature.
