He successfully pried the creature loose, rotted flesh flaking away from his neck alongside the decaying effigy of a porpoise.

Two of its four glowing eyes watched as it rolled away from the force, but otherwise did not seem to have sustained any new wound aside from a grazing from his talons. Then again, the creature was so deteriorated it was difficult to tell what was new and what had already been there, not to mention what had been left by the great Cuachtk'oatl to begin with.

Regardless, the monstrosity righted itself and turned to face him. The sea-dragon's mind was made feeble and his will deteriorated by the strange sensation that had come over his mind and body. He could tell its intent, he knew that it would come to make quick work of the wound it had already dug into his neck. Deep in his throat the creature growled, and with a great mustering of will, he managed to turn away from the charging carcass. Cuachtk'oatl's form flipped belly up in the water and twisted as it came back down, its snout facing the orca as it passed.

The water rippled around his mouth, and flames licked between his teeth like many flailing bright serpents. Heat permeated the clear blue waters and boiled it into wavy mirages. Then, the dragon's maw opened and flamed belched into the water. It was not in a torrent or a stream, but in brilliant, burning globs of fiery sludge. They erupted from Cuachtk'oatl's maw like magma from a raging volcano, and sought to sear the putrid flesh of his hated enemy.

Mortis' jaws snapped around nothing, bone clapping upon bone like two heavy slabs of wood. One moment the sea-dragon had been there and the next, it had turned away from his attack, flipping up and over him as he sped past in a cloud of inky decay and bubbles.

The superfiend hissed, angling his fins to bring himself around, his ragged tail slapping the water in sharp bursts. Yet, as he did so, it was soon found to be a grave error. He could see the heat that rippled and boiled the water surrounding Cuachtk'oatl's jaws, and even from where he sat, half of a football field from the beast, his putrid flesh began to cook from the blistering flames that danced between his teeth. The ghoul did not need any further encouragement to turn and flee from the animal's maw, much less need to read the intent in Cuachtk'oatl's thoughts.

He turned about, tail thrashing as he hastily swam away from the globs of fiery viscous material that spewed from the sea-dragon's throat. With a name as Cuachtk'oatl, the Sea-Dragon, perhaps he should have expected it to be able to belch flames much like the crimson dragon that had attacked him in April... But considering it was an underwater beast, Mortis had sooner deduced that it would merely be some large serpent, more likely to crush a ship than set it aflame. Especially given how the lizard-folk had described it.

The thought of returning to shore briefly crossed his mind, all too knowing of how easily his host could incinerate if exposed to the Sea-Dragon's searing flames. But, the desire to visit the lizard city, and ultimately fulfill his own personal -albeit unspoken- promise to his brother brushed the threat aside. He was Mortis! He was one of four that were once tasked with the extermination of all life! If all the challenges and pitfalls of Mega City one could not deter him, neither would the lizard-people and their ridiculous dare.

Bony flippers swept broadly as the undead spun about to face the sea dragon once more, diving between the flurry of fiery globs and down to the beast's gaping maw with a powerful slap of his tail. Another thrash, and the superfiend aimed to dive down Cuachtk'oatl's throat, ignoring how his flesh burned in the beast's fiery breath. The sharp bony tips of his flippers dug into the flesh of the mighty sea-dragon's throat and putrefying it into a foul black sludge to its bones.

Flames erupted from the sea-dragon's maw, blistering sludge flying in a wide spray after his adversary's retreating tail. Unfortunately, the damnable thing managed to evade being burnt, as it darted this way and that from the pursuing glowing blobs. Yet, seeing it flee ignited something within its breast. It was something prideful, something haughty and overconfident. Cuachtk'atl's maw spread wide again and shook the ocean with his howling.

    Coward!

    Cur!

Cuachtk'oatl bellowed mightily at the decaying porpoise, the Sea Dragon confident that he had managed to intimidate his opponent into forfeiting the battle. Nothing could brave his fiery blaze, that incinerated the flimsy wooden ships and boiled blubber until it erupted into a delightful chorus of popping and crackling. He belched another spray of flame again as if to taunt the fleeing corpse, but as he did so he noticed it turn... And begin to rush towards him once again.

It swiftly darted betwixt the flames, and before he knew it, the carcass had disappeared down his throat!

His flesh burned, sharp bone slicking into the meat of his gullet. Decay ate away at his flesh, the stink and its searing pain choking him and making the sea-dragon's eyes bulge and water.

    HHURGHKT-!

He had to get it out! Burn it, vomit it up, crush it, anything! Another asphyxiated cry wrenched itself from Cuachtk'oatl's blocked throat, and he began to belch mouthful after mouthful of flame, globules of the burning substance pouring from his maw like a lava-flow.

    Gulp!

Down the hatch Mortis went, his jagged flippers slicing ragged wounds into the sea-dragon's throat as he flew down it. Around him he could hear the great beast wretch and choke, and the bubbling of liquid flame as it panicked and tried to evict him. Even so, it appeared that the creature's efforts were for naught, as Mortis' host had already wedged itself too far down his gullet to be in the path of Cuachtk'oatl's searing fire.

"Yessss..." Mortis hissed to himself, all too pleased. He dug the pointed tips of his bony flippers into already putrefying flesh and clawed his way down. Rot seeped into the animal's body in long spidery tendrils, spreading like black ink being poured in a cup of clear water. Powerful muscles eroded and withered into membranes of putrid black ooze, that ripped and fell away like wet tissue paper with every effort the sea creature made to rid himself of his undead adversary.

Alas, it would take far more than mere coughing and vomiting pseudo-magma to get rid of this particular infiltrator.

The bones of the ghoul's flippers flexed and curled like thick fingers, snagging the beast's sensitive flesh as he clawed his way down deeper into Cuachtk'oatl's body. Down, until the sound of the mighty sea-dragon's heart drummed in his head like rhythmic thunder. Here, this was what the undead superfiend sought. A rancid, green slab of putrid meat that remained of the orca's tongue lashed over his teeth eagerly.

Then, his claws struck forward, aiming to tear into Cuachtk'oatl's throat and slash open a path to the creature's beating heart. Flesh rotted and succumbed to the undead's rotting touch, turning a putrid black as it parted and fell away. Over and over, his claws scooped and gouged, intent on rotting his way to the sea-dragon's core.

Some way, somehow, despite the undead being lodged deep inside of the creature's body, it failed to decay anything. A boon, a stroke of luck for the unfortunate Cuachtk'oatl, who currently was unable to dislodge the offending creature from his body either! Globs of fiery muck spewed and fell from his maw alongside a thick cloud of black putrescence, decayed flesh curling on his gasping heaves in thin, slimy membranes.

Even so, with the undead's stubborn decision to reside within the sea-dragon's body, the effects of his work continued to seep and creep ever deeper into Cuachtk'oatl's being. He could feel the decay reach and slither under his scales, withering his muscles and sapping his strength.

He could feel it in his neck, he could feel it as it seeped into his blood and began to be swiftly pumped through his body with every heartbeat.

It infected him, curdled his blood into a rancid soup.

But, there was a silver lining to this steadily growing dark cloud. Where the carcass' putrescence had began to take root, the sleepy, settling sensation upon his mind began to clear. His brain no longer felt as if it were stuffed with cotton, and his limbs regained their lost vigor. The sea-dragon's eyes rolled in their sockets, wretching once again as he thrashed and heaved.

In his desperation, another bout of liquid flame poured into his throat, searing already grievous wounds as he attempted to remove the torturous monstrosity from his body.

"SSSSS!" Damn this beast and its struggling! Despite the undead's efforts, Cuachtk'oatl's heart remained un-found, as his clawed flippers failed to dig into much of anything with all of its thrashing about.

He heard another cough and a rush of flame erupted further up the sea-dragon's throat. Evidently it was still set on trying to get rid of him, despite how securely Mortis had managed to wedge himself into Cuachtk'oatl's gullet. But, it also gave the undead an epiphany:

It could not hurt him. It could not incinerate his host, it could not rip him apart with its claws. Mortis had effectively found the dragon's most vulnerable point and a point of personal invulnerability! A cruel laugh bubbled from the throat of the living orca carcass, what was once a wolf of the sea now turned completely into a sea jackal. At once the undead's snout thrashed to the side once, towards the ever constant pounding of the dragon's heart, if he could not dig his way to it... He would simply burrow his way to that ever pounding organ.

Flesh rotted on contact with the undead orca's bony fins, the appendages contorting and swiveling to act as claws that hooked and dug into the sea-dragon's rotting flesh. Though he could not rip through the animal like putrid lightning, a plague given righteous purpose, he could still savor the beast's agony as it slowly, painfully met its end.

    AAAAAUUURRRGH!

It burned! It clawed at his insides! Damn this hellish carcass, the sea-dragon cursed mentally, his body contorting into a painful arch as the creature ripped into him, rotting muscle and tissue with every jostle and touch. He could feel it attempting to get closer to something, as he felt his pulse beginning to throb within his wounds and echo in his head.

The flaming substance he vomited poured from his teeth in a viscous ooze, the dislodged portions of his steadily putrefying body pluming from his throat to hover about his face in a sickly black cloud of slime disintegrated flesh. Another pained howl escaped the sea-dragon's body alongside a plume of pitch black sludge, which could have been mistaken for a cloud of smoke if not for the way it clung to the water like mucus and formed slick membranes upon the dragon's dense scales.

The pain was maddening, and the rot that was beginning to swiftly seep further and further into his body brought with it an illness, a deadly sort of insanity that drove the creature to convulse, snapping its body into ever unnatural positions. It's limbs flexed in short snapping bursts, and its many tails thrashed madly in no certain direction.

He- he had to do something to ease his torment, to ease the fever burning in his skull. Another coked, pained sound gurgled from Cuachtk'oatl's maw, and he turned himself downward, down toward the deep, dark depths. Then, he descended, black sludge trailing behind him in thick, sticky ribbons.
