    Jiggity Jig

Post by Nessa on Sat Nov 26, 2016 11:13 pm

    NOV 26 ; 10:15 PM

Walking down the streets of the outer district hasn't changed. Nothing has changed. The gutter slum-dogs, the blatant gang members, the shady alleys, the abandoned buildings... They are all here. Good. Nothing has exploded quite yet. Nessa, in her blue hoodie with the hood up, walks at a normal pace toward what she knows is a safe place to hide. The Nest. Soon her fears will calm, and she can finally find out what's going on. But until then, she will soldier on. People who had just enough sense in them didn't come near her. An aura of blood emanates from the immortal, shooing anyone who came to close off with the chattering of teeth and the scraping of claws. There isn't room for trust right now. Her red eyes could burn lines into the path. Her aura wraps around her like a blanket of steel. She isn't exactly hiding right now. Who would she hide from? She's been gone for months!

A hushed chuckle escapes her lips.

Her pace quickens as she sees the top of the abandoned apartment complex, but only slightly. Her excitement being more prevalent than her caution as of late, she unsheathes her dagger behind her back as she enters a dark alleyway. The cold air becomes far colder to her as she steps into the Shroud. Now she can run. Her sneakers make naught a sound as she speeds along the alleyway and hops upwards onto the fire escapes and upwards onto the roofs. Vaulting over wall, chimney and alley as she deadline sprints to her home. Rats appear next to her in the Dark. Skittering across the buildings. Suzanne catches up and holds tight to Mother's shoulder. A silent distraught squeak is all she can muster. The world is a blur, but then suddenly, they stand before the mirror in the hallway. Oh thank whatever gods are watching over. It hasn't been touched. She feels the wards around her have expired. She hasn't kept up on it. She sends out some of the extended family to touch up the wards as she sits down. She may be excited to be home, but she isn't stupid. The mirror's magick makes her very vulnerable. The wards are far too important.

After a few minutes, the magicks rise to power again. Outside, for a flash second, red lines the building. Ah, the wards are here. With that, Nessa stands and all but leaps through the liquid like mirror. Immediately she's in her home. The red ambient light upon her, she checks the Kitchen. A little dusty, but nothing out of place. Rats start appearing everywhere. Happy to be home. Happy... to be home. She hasn't been gone three days to her knowledge but she feels like it's been ages. She shakes her head, going to her dressing room, and then bedroom. Both of which are completely fine. Nothing to report. A sigh escapes her and she goes toward the bathroom, a hidden door within her single hallway. Walking into the bathroom, she disrobes, leaving her hoodie and other effects behind at the doorway. Touching the wall again a glass door appears revealing a large multi-directional faucet walk in shower. It turns on, the water automatically the right temperature, and she enters.

    ONE VERY LONG SHOWER LATER

Stepping out in her robe, Nessa walks across the hallway, dodging two small mischief of rats. The large plush couch, covered in feather pillows of different shades of red, calls out to her. She turns backwards, and then slams into the pillows back first.

"Uhhhghh... oh dear..." Then suddenly... something happens that hasn't happened in a long long loooong time.

    She sleeps.

Rats blink toward their Mother. Some excited, others too busy to notice, but most relax and climb upon the couch, snuggling close to Mother and snoozing themselves.

    Good night sweet dears...

ONE NAP LATER (AT OR AROUND 11PM)

The Piper's eyes open slowly. Where she expected light, she finds darkness. And where she expected nothing... She finds FUR. AND A LOT OF IT. Coughing into a fit as she gasps for air, she swats at the children around her face, squeals of protest and squeaks of fear erupt from the pile of rat. Suzanne, right under Mother's arm, has the same revelation and bites at some of her siblings in anger. Gettoff! I'm not your bed!

Sitting up straight, Nessa pulls back her tousle of hair. As she lets her hand down, her tattooed arm glimmers, around her wrist. OH. She brings her arm up to her mouth and nearly shouts.

"MAUSI. Oh dear! 'Wire! Love! Are you there?!..." She heard that she was still around... but her trust is nearly back to what it once was as of late.

She gives it a moment. Waiting patiently for anything... anything at all.

"MAUSI. Oh dear! 'Wire! Love! Are you there?!..."

    Thump

Once again, Nessa called just in time for Livewire to drop something. Thankfully, this time it was just herself, out of bed, and onto a very disgruntled Penny who let her surprise be known in a yowl. Which woke up...everyone.  She was good like that, the drama-queen.

The tiny child was barely awake when the call came through. Her dreams were soft and full of gray shapes and tones. The dream catcher above her bed was to thank for that. It did a spectacular job at keeping the worst of her nightmares away from her. They did little to keep voices from her, though.

The child rolled herself up and clutched to the blood-red gem against her collarbone, letting out a sob.

Eight days. It had been eight days since she first heard Nessa's voice, eight days since she felt that stabbing pain of sorrow and was unwilling, unable to confirm if it was true.  She didn't know if it was actually Nessa who spoke to her. She didn't want to confirm if it was just her mind coming up with a new way to torture her.

The tiny, fleshy, body pushed itself up onto hands and feet as a wet nose tucked against her cheek and Penny whined into her ear. Her hand sought out a purchase onto Penny's neck as she struggled to her feet with the help of The Queen Dog.  Those same bare feet soon were quickly rushing out of her room, across the floor as she darted to the door of her guardian's bedroom. Her breath was coming out in short, panicked bursts as her tiny fist hammered on the door, the other fist tightly clenched around the pendant.

A choked cry. A sobbing child. Noises of what seemed like falling out of a bed and the complaints of a... dog? Curiosity aside, Nessa is immediately thrown into distress. The Piper's head swims as she jolts out of the couch, pulling out of her robe and knocking over a coat rack in the process of running toward her room. The sounds of the wind buzz through the line of communication and the smell of blood wafts in the air.

"Livewire! What's wrong? Oh no. Dearie! Can you hear me?" Wait.

What if someone has her? What if Kev and Fear were gone?! What is happening?! Thousands of irrational thoughts flood her mind. All ending in something absolutely terrible for her Mausi. She reaches into her bedroom, her hand grasping the air like a claw before undergarments, a red hoodie, a long sleeved shirt, and jeans appear in her hands. As she dresses, she taps the green dot on her wrist, broadcasting her voice and sound to both Kev and Livewire. Just in time for her to fall over herself putting on her pants. A gasp of air leaves her lungs, slightly winded, she quickly dons her apparel and slips on a pair of snow boots.

"Kev! Livewire! Fear for heaven's sake! Someone answer please!" choking out the words, her voice cracks. Her panicking isn't helping, but she cannot stop. Chittering voices appear in her mind. She only just realized she had woke the Mischief. Thousands of rats undulate under the streets in complete agony and panic. Their Mother has returned, and she is not well. Nessa grabs the wall as the multitude of simple and complex voices ask her so very many questions. With clenched teeth, she pulls out her flute, a trill of notes ascending. The rats freeze, as if stopped in time, distressed faces lifeless.

A short descent of low notes sends all but a few of the rats away. Suzanne, ever the persistent one, jumps up onto the couch as Nessa rushes into the living room and leaps onto mother's hoodie, clinging with claw and tooth both onto the fabric. The Piper barely has a moment before her feet take her outside the mirror. The world remakes itself around her and she is down the flight of stairs and on the street. The scent of her aura fills the area around her and emanates from the pendants.

She turns herself toward the residential area, stopping in place. No one has spoken over the amulet.

"Hello?" the Piper tries, and fails, to keep the tears out of her rasped voice.

    YOOOOOOOOOWL!

And just like that, Fear was up. Covers practically flew across the room as the burly man leaped out of bed, his large hands already reaching for the hidden revolver near his nightstand. Had an intruder trespassed into their home? Was it a creature? The former Judge's mind raced with countless possibilities. Old habits, even in protected zones such as this, die hard.

By the time Kev roused from his slumber and could utter a groggy word, Fear was already at their bedroom door and not a moment too soon. Tiny fists pounded frantically against it. Livewire? Had something happened to...? He opened it at once, whipping the firearm behind his back and out of her view. "Lass, what's gotten into you, child!?" he demanded. No answer came, for Livewire was beside herself with sobs and cascading tears. Could a nightmare have been the culprit? Fear instantly sprung into action and swooped the child up with one arm, his other busily shoving the revolver into his pajama bottoms. "Come now, come now..." he quietly soothed, cradling her tenderly. "Deep breathes, lass, deep breaths. It'll all be alright." But, just as he walked her over toward the bed, rocking her softly all the while... a familiar smell entered his nostrils.

    Blood.

It was the fresh scent of blood.

He checked Livewire over for wounds or harm immediately, thinking the child had managed to cut herself in her frightened daze. When he discovered no such injury, however... that is when his eyes caught a glimpse of the amulet around Livewire's neck, the child's fist grasping it as if for dear life. Suddenly, everything made perfect sense.

A low growl rumbled deep within Fear's throat, "Nessa."

Post by Kev on Tue Jan 03, 2017 11:45 pm

Kev was a rather notorious deep sleeper, and so the sounds in the house took a moment to jog him awake. He was distantly aware of a dog yelping in sudden pain, the noise making the warm lump he had been cuddled next to leap out of bed, and with it, the covers. He moaned groggily, curling into himself. Fear could handle it, whatever was going on. The sound of sudden knocking roused him a bit more, head perking up with eyes still shut. Lass...? And...crying. The alien's face swiveled towards the door, drawn by sound rather than sight as his eyes were still closed. "Livewire...? Fear...? Wha's wrong...what happe-"

"Kev! Livewire! Fear for heaven's sake! Someone answer please!"

He gasped sharply, jerking himself upright as both eyes opened with a snap of his back from the sudden movement. That voice might as well have been a bucket of cold water with the way it shook him out of his slumber. Kev tucked his knees close to his chest, staring at the doorway and yet not looking at the duo there. Had...had it just been a dream? Yet it couldn't be, her voice had been so clear. Sharp and panicked. He blinked several times, taking note of Livewire's state as Fear brought her to the bed to comfort her. Was this how she had felt, the first time she heard Nessa's voice? It made him shiver, looking at his upset family as if still shocked. He felt paralyzed, inwardly demanding his body move closer to his partner, to their child. Not even the strange scent of blood in the air made him move. Instead, his fingers grasped the light green sheets as he took in his first breath of air since he heard the voice.

Big breath in, big breath out. Come on, they need you. You can do this. Breathing is easy! In and out...in and out... the tension in his body drained out, and he crawled on hands and knees to them as Fear looked the little girl over. He reached a hand out, head cocked to the side. Before he could speak, however, the burly human growled out a single word.

    "Nessa."

Of course... Brows furrowing, Kev threw his legs over the side of the bed and marched to a drawer by the headrest. Opening the dresser, he reached his hand in and searched. Naked fingertips roamed, feeling the smooth plastic of a crest and the glass-like surface of diamonds. A crescent moon pendant and...no sooner had his fingertips touched the blood red teardrop shape did he hear her voice as clear as day.

    "Hello?"

So she really was back. His fingers curled around the stone as he pulled it out of the drawer, still on his knees before it. Kev stared down at the stone in his palm, remembering that he had placed it in storage with these other necklaces, thinking that he would never be able to talk to the rat woman ever again. And here he was, a direct line to her. A week after first contacting Livewire at that. What could he possible say to her now? A hand braced himself on the dresser, steadying himself as he reached into the stone, connecting with it to speak to the woman who was waiting for an answer. Where were you? It slipped out in a hiss but now there was no taking it back. S-she loved you and you broke her heart, where have you been?!

Post by Livewire on Fri Jan 13, 2017 9:38 pm

The door opened quickly beneath her demanding of her tiny, fleshy fists. Had Livewire been in a better state of mind, she would have once again marveled at how in this form it was wood that was stronger than her hands, in direct opposition to the typical way of things in her stronger body. If she had been in a better state of mind, Livewire would have taken a moment to appreciate the fact that even though they were tucked safely within the city limits that her guardian still was on guard, ever vigilant even with the limitations imposed by this organic body.  If she had been in a better mind, Livewire would have heard Nessa's voice keep calling out through her panic and would have become even more distraught.

So really, all things considered, it was probably better that Livewire wasn't in a better mind right then.  Livewire wasn't quite there enough yet to understand that her course of actions had yielded the desired result. All she really understood is that she was remarkably distressed and the arm lifting her up with a practiced ease, even if it was not the body she typically associated with her guardian, was a place of safety. Fear would protect her, he would come and save her from the water.

"Deep breathes, lass, deep breaths. It'll all be alright."

The wet sobs wrenched painfully through her body as a far-back part of her mind registered Fear's instructions and Kev's bleary voice, just roused from sleep. Her abdomen hurt with her crying and her mind was alerted with a wordless indication that she wasn't getting enough air. It was terrifying. She grasped desperately and one-handed to her guardian as her brain failed to take notice of the rising ire.  The source of the current predicament was tightly grasped within her hand, so tight that her fingernails, painted a cheery yellow, were leaving little crescent cuts within the skin of her palm.

Slowly, so slowly, her body's need for consistent air flow started to override the panic that had taken it so thoroughly. The child's eyes and nose still leaked against the former corpse's shoulder but she could, slowly, start to feel the initial haze of panic starting to clear. Distantly she noticed the tension within her guardian's bedroom.

Right then, however, the tiny lass was simply trying to remember how to breathe. Fear and Kev would take care of this, they'd...they'd fix it. She trusted them to.

So focused was she, the Immortal hadn't noticed that Suzanne had brought her the red scarf and draped it around her neck. Each little sound being muffled, as if someone had gripped the amulet tight. The sounds of skin rubbing across stone and bones popping joints filled the Piper's mind. She lets out a sigh, more to calm herself down than anything. If she hadn't had a paranoid fit, maybe this would all be a bit clearer. No time to beat yourself up over it, Nessa. Focus. Keep the connection. She can feel where it is now, her aura snakes around her, her hair flailing in the air. Oh the poor dear... What is going to happen? What HAS happened? She has been gone for so very long.

Turning her head, though it really meant nothing to do so due to the amulet playing inside her mind, to 'hear' better, she hears thumping against door, and then a muffled voice. Deep baritone. But... oddly familiar. This... is this Fear? Fear!

"Fear! Fear is that you?! What is going on?!"

Nessa's body lurches forward, almost on its own accord, toward the residential area. Her aura wraps around her and she becomes a blur to the few miscreants hanging around the suburban slum. A red streak of air zipping along the ground. Rats come out to meet her, becoming the flood under her feet as the Piper pulls out her flute, a trilling set of notes putting an extra pep into the step of her Children.

Putting away the Black Flute, she leans into the cone of aura she set out before her, riding the tidal wave of vermin.

    And then she hears him.

Kev wrote:Where were you? S-she loved you and you broke her heart, where have you been?!

Wh... where was she? L... Broke ...her heart?

The flood of rats freeze as the panic in their Mother becomes so severe, she stops breathing. Mausi. No no no. She was so fragile.

Panic ebbs its way into shock, and shock quickly dissipates and becomes anger. The amulets glow bright, almost blinding red. The smell of blood sears away and becomes the smell of meat. Raw muscle being torn asunder for the first time.

Through the amulet the filtered voice of thousands whispers:

    Not worth it
    ḭ͓̳͍t̵̙̩'̖̬͖̰̫s͘ ҉̼̰͖̝ͅa͓̻̙̦͜ ̹̬͡tr̛̯̙̺̮͈͕a͎̰̝̦̝̬̙p̫
They cannot know your pain. RUN.

Leave them. They are not i̞̮͙ͅm͚p͉̗̹͇͖o̤̣r̲͡ṭ̻̰͚̼̬a̡̩͍n̗͎̭͚̠̩t̪̘.̬̜̤̯͎̦̜

Nessa wrenches her hands into fists and brings her hand up to her mouth, biting her knuckle hard, blood spilling slowly into the crevice in her fingers. Pain brings her mind back from the panic, back from the world of the Predator. Let us not, dear ones. Mother has a child in pain. And she is going now.

"Kev. Fear. Is Livewire there. Is she safe. Is she alive. These are all things I do not know. Before you start berating me for things I know not of, how about we exchange our facts. I'm nearly to your house now." No apology, yet very polite. She understands a child in pain. Though this current ...event in her life has left her very vulnerable to her old ways, she is still a centuries-old Immortal. She has a good grip on how bad situations turn good.

With a flick of her wrist, the Flute is in her hands again, and she sails forward toward the residential district...231....229...227...225.

    Broadband Boulevard.

She puts away her flute, and hesitates. She doesn't know what she'll tell Livewire.

    She doesn't know at all.

"Fear! Fear is that you?! What is going on?!"

Not exactly a vote of confidence...

For the umpteenth time since his transformation, Fear was grateful for his newfound psychic deafness. Kev had the look - the 'I'm gonna explode a few heads' look - and Fear could only frown. Things were unfortunately spiraling out of control very, very quickly. Between a distressed Livewire, a furious Kev, and a strangely confused Nessa, the man sorted everything as if this was a triage. Kev was going to be incensed no matter the circumstance, so Fear let the alien be. He had every right to voice his wrath at the stone (Fear could infer between the lines despite hearing nothing). And as for Nessa? Well, she had returned, whatever her situation was in the first place, and that was that. There was no changing the fact, either. Nessa deserved a verbal lashing, but its severity depended on what she had to say for herself. It was hard trusting a child-snatcher's word, however...

Understandably, Livewire's plight held importance above everyone else's. Kev and Nessa could duke it out later; if Fear knew people (which he did), then the latter was already on her way here. A bold move, and possibly a stupid one, but it may disarm an already souring fiasco. He was more concerned about Nessa actually being here.

"Kev. Fear. Is Livewire there. Is she safe. Is she alive. These are all things I do not know. Before you start berating me for things I know not of, how about we exchange our facts. I'm nearly to your house now."

Speak of the Devil and he shall appear.

That was Fear's cue. He looked to Kev, Livewire still cradled in his arms. "Speak with her outside." That was not a suggestion. The reason should be fairly obvious. "I'm heading to the basement with Livewire," he said. "Remember your inside voice and keep it civil." AKA: don't speak so loudly that Livewire can hear, and absolutely no shouting. She can't handle anymore sensory overload. "If you need me, knock on the door twice, alright? Keep a cool head and don't say or do anything reckless. It's not worth the consequences." As irritated as Fear was with the situation, there was more at stake than just his ire. He didn't linger much more after that and left the bedroom, his heavy footsteps softly thumping into the dark.

((Fear is gonna stay in the basement with Livewire, as her emotional support. If you would prefer something different, Erin, please let me know! Otherwise, Fear is outta dis threeeeead.))
