Knight and Magical Girl in the Inn

Post by Kyoko Sakura on Sat Oct 15, 2016 4:14 pm

    Time: 10:20 PM
    Date: 10/4/2016 (continued from here!

What a busy Prince...maybe being Royalty was exaggerated in the books. This Jerrik guy sounded like he had his hands full. When the topic turned to Witches, Kyoko let out a harsh laugh that was quite inappropriate considering the topic and Scarlet's own discomfort. "Were they real witches?" With her time period, it could be like that Salem witch trial stuff. Though if their world actually had vampires...perhaps they had witches too. At least, the kind of witches most people seemed to have. Pointy hats, casting spells, the whole package.

Scarlet being unsure how many attendants could mean there were hundreds of dead people her Prince was responsible for, or she only came onto the scene shortly after the last one. For all they knew, maybe that was the only one he'd killed. Though apparently he was more about torture. The magical girl's eyes widened a bit, fists clenching as she tried to figure out how to feel about that. More than anything, she just stared at Scarlet as if she couldn't believe the kind of world this woman had come from! And that was pretty amazing, since Kyoko came from a world where young girls died routinely after having their souls ripped out! She only seemed more puzzled when Scarlet expanded on the Prince's more protective side. "It sounds like he really does care about you." Considering what she had heard so far, the magical girl wasn't surprised to hear that the grand King and Queen were awful parents. Both arms crossed over her chest, pressing them closer to herself as she huffed. "No wonder he's all fucked up." Kyoko surmised with a blunt tongue.

Cold? The magical girl spared a glance down at herself and shrugged her bare shoulders. "Eh, this is warmer than it looks, actually." She said, one hand reaching down to tug at the ruffled edge of her skirt. "But you're in luck," Kyoko began, as her walking wound down to a stop before a building on the corner of the block. "Because we're here!" She motioned to the Inn with a slight grin, the nearest building on each side of the corner seemed attached, with each one about four stories high. Small compared to some of the higher buildings, maybe, but still rather spacious for those who lived there. Opening the front door, Kyoko lead the way to the reception desk with a hop in her step. "We can get you all settled in with a room, and then I'll take you to my room for some food!" She called back over a shoulder, assuming that Scarlet would follow her to the desk. As she approached, the magical girl waved to the staff member who would be in at such a late time. "We got a new one! Sorry for bringing her in kinda late, but she just arrived." The teenager explained, before stepping aside for Scarlet to approach.

"The one I witnessed...was not." Scarlet sighed, rubbing her temples at the 'real witches' comment. No...that girl had been innocent from the beginning...just a stroke of bad luck. "They tried to put one of my best friends on trial as well. Though, she had enough people to speak on her behalf that she wasn't tortured into confessing like some of the others..." With that, she trailed off. She didn't need to unload that much on the girl, it actually made her feel a bit bad.

Though, when Kyoko had pointed out that they had arrived, the woman smiled a bit again. It looked...friendly enough. Though she would have to remember that the light was not magic... Electricity, wasn't it...? That's what she thought she'd said... Still, the thought of getting some food in her was a welcomed plan. She nodded pleasantly and followed her into the building, taking note of just how different the building's interior looked. Once Kyoko stepped aside, Scarlet curtsied in typical high-class-lady fashion, before smiling apologetically. "She's explained a fair bit about what has happened, but I'm still a little lost, so I would appreciate lodging if that's possible."

Link yawned widely, and loudly. In fact, it was rather unsightly so he was thankful nobody was around the lobby at this hour to witness it, not even is usual companion of fairies were there. It had been a long day of paperwork, and the innkeeper was glad that it was almost over for the night.

He tapped together the last set of documents, ready to knuckle down and work through them all for another forty minutes until locking up, but ended up setting them aside as their resident magical girl tenant (though strictly speaking, there were several magical females in the building, but Kyoko was really the only one going by the term ‘magical girl’) cheerily made her ways through the door and just as cheerily approached the desk with another woman in tow.

“Ha,” he sounded with a wave to both of them, only to falter a little when the lady curtseyed to him. He blinked awkwardly at her for a few seconds before giving a hesitant slight bow back? That was how people respond to curtseys, right? Note to self, check with his friends who are more versed in er… court etiquette, was that the term?

Let’s move onto things that he could do then! Like getting a new room set up! No problem at all. With a welcoming smile, the boy unlocked the drawer containing the room cardkeys, whipped out a form and place both on the desk alongside a pen.

The form was simple, just a list of the inn’s information and guidelines, then at the bottom, Link had already filled in the lady’s new room number.

    Room: 248

Scarlet blinked after a moment. Did...this boy not speak? Huh... She'd at least expected that much. But it wasn't long before she was presented with something that had words on it, which were oddly uniform, and the parchment felt strange. Hm... And what sort of quill was this? It had no ink well... The knight cocked her head to the side curiously, looking from the Innkeeper, to the magical girl for any sort of confirmation of her thoughts, before she decided to try writing. To her surprise, ink came out on the line easily, and that drew a smile from the woman. "...Pleasant magic, certainly." She mumbled as she wrote and signed her name on the paper.

    Scarlet Helena Eldred.

She hadn't been sure if she needed her full name or not, but now it was documented on the strange parchment, and she left the 'quill' to sit beside it once she'd finished. Room 248...? They had that many rooms in this place? That was a shocking thing to consider in itself. "It seems my room number is 248. I never asked yours, did I?" Scarlet thought aloud, turning to Kyoko curiously.

Kyoko returned the wave and nodded her head to the young boy with a smile. Ah good, so it was this Link at the desk today! The very sight of him reminded the magical girl of her own first day here. He was a very sweet boy, if oddly mute. It wasn't an issue though, with that little gadget he had that he could write out messages on. Scarlet's elegant little curtsy drew a small snort from the redhead, unable to blame Link for his confusion. At least he bowed back at her. Pulling out the familiar form and room key, Kyoko kept to the side of the desk to give the other woman room for her to write. A snicker came from her as she caught the mumble, shaking her head lightly. Magic pens, ehehehe.

"Oh cool, that's on the second floor." Leaning an elbow on the counter, Kyoko took a cocky pose as she grinned back widely. "You didn't ask, no. But that's okay! My room is 405, that's on the top floor! It's the farthest floor from the stuff we got down here, like the dining area, but at least I'm super close to the roof. I like sitting up there." With Scarlet's reaction to the pen, she would probably have to instruct her on how to work the keycard. No big deal.

"Oh, you're all the way up there?" The knight chuckled slightly, then nodded to her. She could certainly understand why someone would want their alone time up there. It sounded kind of peaceful. Still... 248...she'd have to remember that. That was her new...home? At least in a sense. And Kyoko was in 405. Okay. That wasn't going to be terribly hard to remember either. If there was anything of a silver lining in this situation, it was that they at least had some kind of support for those who had just been torn away from things.

Though...if she was just given a room, that likely meant that she had a lot of work to do to make it feel home-y. She had no expectations at all as to what was going to be in there, or not in there, when she arrived to look at things. It wouldn't have even surprised her if the room was totally empty, save for a bed. "Perhaps we should keep moving. He looks to be quite tired." Scarlet then spoke up, breaking her train of thought with a brief glance to the boy's face.

Ayups, that was how Link was when he first encountered a ball point pen in this world as well - surprise and wonder at this modern and convenient invention. Link smiled fondly at that memory and hope the lady would continue to be amazed, surprised and wowed by the things in this world, just like he and his friends did. Like the microwave! And the kettle! Oh and he had spent a very, very long time just clicking bedside lamps on and off.

The form filled and signed, he turned it back from to face him, curiously read the name and silently mouthing the words as if the action would help him remember it better. Once all was checked and done, Link nodded again to welcome the lady to the inn, then chuckled sheepishly at her suggestion that he looked tired. Oh dear, he didn’t think he was that obvious! Well, better not keep them here any longer, there are many pieces of modern furnishings in her room to explore. He waved them off cheerily then went back to work.

"Yep! Feel free to stop by, though I can't promise I'll always be in there. Just keep an eye on the dining area and you'll probably find me." Kyoko winked to the older woman, chuckling to herself. No matter how much witch hunting she did with Homura, the redhead would always come back to the Inn for her three meals a day. It was as if the Inn's kitchen had a homing beacon to it that was wired to the magical girl's brain! At the suggestion, she blinked as if surprised. Tired already? She returned her gaze to the young innkeeper as he gave a little sheepish chuckle. "Oh right. We should get out of your hair...you'll have to lock the doors up soon anyway!" What was the usual bedtime for a kid when they owned a place like that anyway...?

The little guy waved them off, and Kyoko returned it with a steady wave of her own. "Bye! Don't work too hard! Sleep well!" She listed off as she back away from the desk. A small glance to Scarlet reminded her to add one more thing. "Oh, and thanks for all your help!" A firm nod was her final parting before the girl turned on her heel. Leading the way forward, Kyoko breezed past the stairs and made a beeline for the elevators. It was only as she came to a stop, one finger hovering before the button to summon it to their floor, that she realized something: Scarlet had just been amazed by a pen. How was she going to react to an electric box that moves up and down!?

Stepping back, her candy apple eyes first turned towards the flights of stairs, and then back to Scarlet. Awkwardness was written all across her face. "We should...probably take the stairs. The elevator is probably too high tech for you. It's like the stairs...but you just stay put and it's WAY faster. But stairs are fine too!" With an easy shrug, the teenager was already off, taking her steps two stairs at a time. "C'mon, I'll show you my room first!" She called over a shoulder. There was food to be had!

The dining area? That would make it a bit easier on her until she'd gotten her navigation down a bit more, certainly. As they left the Innkeeper behind, the knight fell into her thoughts once again. It...didn't seem real. Any of this. Was there any way to find out if she was actually dreaming this entire adventure...? As she was about to sigh aloud, she caught herself, and the girl's voice snapped her out of it once again.

"You...stay put? But how can you move if you stay still?" The puzzled woman looked to the metal doors curiously, but quickly followed after her guide moments later. An...'elevator', was what she called it, hm? Perhaps that would warrant a bit of an inspection later. She had to laugh as Kyoko took off, taking the stairs in such stride, while she was forced to be lifting up her dress so as not to trip and, regrettably, take it slower. A bit of the girl's energy was rubbing off on her. She almost wanted to run up herself, if not for the fatigue of walking so far prior. "If you don't mind. I am curious about your living space. After all, this building...is quite large. I imagine it may even dwarf my room in the Palace-..." As Scarlet reached the landing, a bit of a frown had returned to her face.

There...would be no Palace anymore, would there? She'd be lucky if she found any of her things scattered across this world, let alone anyone else. A lonely feeling was starting to sink in once more.

"You...stay put? But how can you move if you stay still?"

Kyoko paused. Hm. How do you explain that sort of technology, when Scarlet thought a pen was magic? Glancing over a shoulder back at the other woman and waiting for her to catch up, the redhead finally answered. "Well uh...those doors slide open, and you walk into a room that's shaped like a box. A bunch of rope you can't see lifts you up into the different floors. The doors for that floor open and bam! New floor. Like magic." A shameless wink punctuated the word, finding it all the funnier since she could use real magic!

Much like any other teenager, Kyoko was off in a flash and nowhere near as dainty or refined as Scarlet was. Dress be damned, if this magical girl wanted to run, she was going to! Lucky her that it was relatively short. Aside from some light bobbing behind her, the ruffles hardly got in the way. As she reached each new floor, the redhead would pause until Scarlet reached it as well, before taking off once again. "Oh yeah, sure! I think all of the rooms have the same layout, that'll be good for getting you oriented with your room. It's got all the necessities, though I guess I don't really know what a room in a Palace has in it..." Usually, she'd think such a place would be filled with fancy furniture. The teen couldn't help a small snort. "You didn't live in a broom closet, did you?" The question was only half serious.

At last they reached the fourth floor, with Kyoko waiting more patiently this time. The main area of the floor contained several rooms for entertainment and even a kitchenette and laundry area. For a moment, the young woman had to turn her head about to orient herself. "Right, right..." The magical girl mumbled to herself, creating a little mental map of the floorplan for herself. Motioning for Scarlet to follow, Kyoko took the hallway to the left of the stairs. Passing by three rooms, she spun on her heel to face the room marked '405' and withdrew a little card from seemingly nowhere. Sliding it through the card reader, the door lock clicked and she threw the door open with a relieved grin. "Holy shit, I'm starving!" Jogging in, Kyoko disappeared down a narrow hallway and turned a corner, leaving Scarlet to follow behind at her own pace.

Kyoko's explanation helped, at least a bit, to aid the knight in understanding. A rope-operated lift?...And they called it an...elevator? That didn't seem particularly complicated. Scarlet nodded along in understanding. It was also nice to hear that the rooms were practically the same in this place. She'd be able to see what they looked like before heading to her own later.

Though, she laughed aloud at the broom closet comment. Quite heartily, in fact. [color:93fb=660000]"I'm no maid, they wouldn't shove me into a broom closet." Her pleasant expression faltered after a moment's thought and she folded her arms over her chest as they walked. "I was the only woman permitted into the guard. Naturally, after a-...dispute broke out in the barracks, the King and Queen put me up in a guest room for a while. Though lately I'd been spending more time in the Prince's than my own." A bit of a smile returned at that thought. His parent's had no idea what was happening, or so she thought. After all, they were normally asleep during his active hours.

Right? Scarlet cocked her head curiously at the girl's mumbling but followed after her diligently. After all, it wasn't as if she could navigate on her own just yet. Another hearty laugh slipped out at Kyoko's exclamation as crimson eyes followed her into the room. What she'd seen when she entered, however, was quite shocking. The woman stood in the doorway for a moment. Doors...? That was strange...she had called it a 'room', right? Which one was where she was living? Scarlet followed after Kyoko and poked her head around the corner curiously. It...almost looked like a small house. "...Is this...all where you're living? I thought you'd said it was a room?"

Re: Knight and Magical Girl in the Inn

Post by Kyoko Sakura on Tue Dec 20, 2016 8:23 pm

Kyoko found herself chuckling with Scarlet, especially at the thought of such a regally dressed lady being forced into a room she could barely squat in, let alone sleep! "Good!" Nobody liked broom closets being used for bedrooms. Though it sounded like the circumstances that lead to the older woman having her room were...less than savory. Her crimson eyebrows furrowed, obviously not liking that dispute. "At least they were decent enough to give you a room." Murder attempts or no, at least the King and Queen had the decency to give her a room away from the almost entirely male guards. The extra detail about the Prince's room earned the other a smirk, but no verbal response. Scarlet had already made clear the relationship she had with the Prince.

In the room, Kyoko had taken the nearest open archway for a shortcut into the kitchen. Trying to be subtle for her guest, the teenager picked up wrapped up paper and wrappers from the counter, bunching them up into her hands and chucking them into a garbage can. Aside from a few more such things scattered on the dining room table, and even the coffee table in the living room, the place was rather clean. Lived in of course, with a fluffy red throw blanket haphazardly tossed over the back of the creamy colored couch. Across from the living room was a little area with a table and a chair, sort of a 'work station'. A couple of notebooks were stacked on it, with a porcelain coffee cup full of writing tools. Already pilfering through the fridge, she arched her head around to look at her guest. Her face scrunched up in confusion. "Uh....yeah? This is my room."

Only once she grabbed a plastic wrapped burrito from the freezer did it finally click. Shutting the door with a firm thump, Kyoko leaned on the counter with a light grin. "Oh, I get ya! I've been to hotels who only have a single room for their...well, rooms. All it usually has is a bed, and maybe a mini fridge if you're lucky. The rooms here are more like suites. That means you've got a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room and a bedroom! Sorry about that, I'm so used to calling this a room I forgot that might make it seem smaller." And with that Kyoko turned her back to the older woman and pulled a white ceramic plate out of a cupboard. Lifting the packaged burrito up to her face, the teenager used her sharp teeth to tear it open, sliding the frozen food onto her plate easily. Popping it into the microwave and pressing a few buttons, it hummed as it activated. Only then did the magical girl address Scarlet again. "So, what do you want to eat? I've got another burrito, got some bread and deli meat if you want a sandwich... I also have a little baggy of baby carrots and some ranch. I should go grocery shopping tomorrow..."

Post by Scarlet Eldred on Wed Dec 21, 2016 11:56 pm

When the girl had explained about why she called it a 'room', Scarlet stood there for a minute...processing everything. After a moment, once things had sunken in, she started to laugh. Pretty hard, actually. "For a place that they allow you to stay for free...it's larger than my brother's entire house!" Cameron's entire home, with his wife, encompassed perhaps a bedroom and an area that was an odd combination of a sitting room and a kitchen in one. But that also meant...she was going to have a 'room' such as this as well. That...didn't sound so bad. It was a shame that no one had come along, though...

Her thoughts had pretty much left her oblivious to the magical workings of Kyoko's microwave, but when she'd spoken to her directly, Scarlet snapped back to attention. "Hm?" Oh. Food. She'd asked what she wanted to eat. That's right. But...wait. What? "What...exactly...is a 'burrito'? And...deli meat? Is a 'deli' an animal, here?" She was...rather confused. Granted, this was a new world. It wouldn't be surprising to find other things here, after all. The knight's eyes raised from Kyoko's face after a moment longer. Perhaps...it wouldn't be a bad idea to go out and learn about things in this world... "If it wouldn't be intruding...would you like company for your shopping tomorrow?"

Scarlet began to laugh, and hard. Kyoko could only stare at the older woman, briefly wondering if she needed to call the hospital or something. Finally, Scarlet elaborated on what exactly she had found so hilarious and it drew a firm chuckle from the redhead. "Wha--really? This place is bigger than your brother's entire house?! He must have lived in a tiny shack!" She couldn't hold back a snicker. Better not let the black haired lady see a luxury hotel suite, she might faint at the sight of it! "Yeah, this place is a pretty good deal to stay in for free! I think something like this would cost a pretty penny back in my world. Homeless shelters are about the only place you could stay in for free, and you have to share that with every other homeless person. A single bed, and not much else..." Not like this place. The teenager gave her home a cursory glance, a smile tugging at her lips. She definitely appreciated this place.

"What...exactly...is a 'burrito'? And...deli meat? Is a 'deli' an animal, here?"

Ah...well. Wasn't this a fair bit of culture shock? Kyoko stared back at Scarlet, mind already drawing a blank at trying to explain these things to her. Thankfully, the suggestion gave the teenager something to grasp onto. Leaning her weight upon the counter, she chuckled lightly. "Sure, you can come! It'd probably be a good idea, there's a lot of stuff you need to learn about this place." Including about the food, apparently. Pushing off of the counter, the magical girl opened the fridge once again and pulled out a simple plastic box with a lid. Prying it open, she revealed the sliced meat within. White turkey breast, with a bit of skin only on the edges. "Deli meat is like when you go to the butcher and have him slice off portions for you. But they come pre-sliced most of the time! You can go to the deli and have them slice it up like this for you too. This here is turkey breast. It's great between some cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sandwich bread! As for a burrito..." She glanced over a shoulder at her own little meal, still cooking and spinning about within the microwave. "It's kind of like a sandwich? But different."

Holding the container of turkey out for Scarlet to inspect if she wished, Kyoko continued. "You take a tortilla, which is like a flat piece of bread, and you pour different ingredients on it. That burrito," She jabbed a thumb towards the microwave. "Has beef and baked beans in it, along with some spices. The ingredients get folded up in the tortilla so it makes for a little thing you hold in your hand and eat! It's kinda tasty though if you aren't used to Mexican style food...probably should stick with what you know."

”It wasn't a shack, though it was...modest. Once he got married, I told him he should find somewhere bigger if he was going to have room for a family.” Scarlet rolled her eyes a bit. Of course, he didn't listen. Even on decent terms with their parents, he didn't want to throw their family power around or use their money for a new place. He kept the house that his mentor had owned, and argued with her quite a few times over it. That, and the forge was right next door, so he could work as long as he needed, or wanted.

Though, Kyoko's acceptance of having company for her shopping trip made the knight smile warmly. She did need to learn a lot about this place. That was a very large understatement, for sure. It was an entirely new world, and one that was...quite different.

However, the introduction to this...'deli meat' was curious. They managed to slice it so thin. Scarlet looked at it curiously, then nodded in understanding. ”I see. There's no way that we would've been able to do something like that back home. How interesting.” As the magical girl handed the container to her, the knight looked over it before turning her attention to the burrito in the...spinning...glowing...contraption. So...that was a burrito? Hm. It was a flat piece of bread, essentially, with some things inside of it? Beef was good, beans as well, though she couldn't recall ever having them baked. ”'Mexican'?” The woman's questioning tone was quickly replaced by one of curiosity as she set the container of turkey onto the counter. ”Do you...think I could try one? It doesn't sound as if it'd be bad.”
