    Dance Magic Dance

Post by K.A.R.R. on Sat Aug 27, 2016 11:19 pm

    Time: 7:45 PM
    Date: August 13, 0007

The sun was setting across the highways, painting the sky with burning oranges and reds as the roadways steadily fell into a dusky twilight. Though the road was still visible, many decided it prudent to have their headlights on, as the low light played tricks upon drivers' eyes. There was one vehicle however, that kept their lights off, save for a single strip of yellow light that paced rhythmically across the front of its nose. Sleek, painted in a glossy black and silver, was none other then KARR. While the organics that piloted these vehicles could fall prey to roadway illusions and the pitfalls of poor lighting, the AI's sensors and optic arrays cut through such nonsense with a mechanical methodicalness, as infrared and night vision arrays were activated.

With a reaction time that is many times faster than a human, what need was there to make sure the other cars knew of his presence?

As he had been for the past year, KARR's pilot and passenger seats remained empty. No towering ghouls sat hunched in his interior, nor was there any idle hissing to interrupt the radio as the AI briskly flipped through channel after channel. Music, news, sports... the AI found none of the topics to be particularly pleasing as he drove along, deciding he must have hit the often stated 'dead time' for radio. Ultimately the advanced computer turned off the broadcast, opting for -relative- silence to be favorable. To any driver on the roadway, it may be eerie to see a Trans-Am driving along without anyone in the driver's seat, the steering wheel tilting to and fro as it swayed between cars and cut up through the lanes. But, none ever got the chance to see such a sight, as KARR was reduced to nothing more than a glossy blur along the roadway, the sunset playing across his paneling like dancing flames. Within the cabin, his speedometer displayed an even 300 miles an hour among the series of blinking vital monitors that glimmered like LED stars on his dashboard. The CRT monitors added their soft glow to the artificial glittering, as they displayed what looked to be a map and a route plotted out upon it in red. The other monitor displayed the road as KARR observed it, tinted green through his night-vision arrays.

Before long, the two-toned Trans-Am pulled off the highway and onto a familiar road, the speedometer steadily winding down from the triple digit speeds to a more reasonable cruise. The reason why came soon enough as a large screen came into view, along with a familiar glowing sign that indicated the location of Knockout's Drive-In theater. He had heard of the Cybertronian's earlier offer in the Sanctuary, as he spoke about the musicals he would be showing this particular weekend. While KARR had unfortunately missed the first evening, he surely was not going to miss the second or third.

After doing some research on the movies being shown, the AI had a curiosity that was piqued. "Who was this "David Bowie" and why was his dance magic?" being one of them.

His turbines whined as he pulled into the parking lot, the crunch of asphalt beneath the Trans-Am's tired exchanged for gravel and dirt, then finally grass as he pulled further back to a favorable viewing distance. Finally KARR had found a parking spot close to where he had sat earlier, idling into it and putting himself in park. Though he had not come for the movie alone, as he scanned the area for a particularly red form. Knockout tended to be the one handing out flyers, acting as the face of the drive-in as well as its owner. Perhaps he would be out and about tonight as well, greeting the customers and ensuring everything was in order.

On her way back to the Drive-In for the second night of the musical movie showcase Nyreena was happily humming through Underground from Labyrinth as she flew through the air on the way to her destination. Tonight was that movie and the Wizard of Oz, another one of her favorites as well as Labyrinth. Before she made her way to the Drive-In she was trying to make the decision of whether or not to where a pair of red high heeled shoes, with a slight sparkle to them, to match the iconic ones that Dorothy wears in the movie but had to wondered whether or not it would match her outfit. Then realizing that she had a dark red hair tie at the bottom her hair then her decision was quickly made and her shoes were swapped out just as quick. Seeing the Drive-In down below she smiled happily and made her descent, landing just outside the entrance and made her way in to the spot she sat last night, excited for another round of wonderfully great movies, just as the previous night was.

Another day passed, and thus there was another night of musicals to watch. Whereas tomorrow's movies both had 'horror' in the title, tonight's movies were both more involved in fantasy. The Wizard of Oz had been suggested for being a big classic on Earth, and it was definitely quite old! Knock Out himself was a fan of the transition from sepia to color. Labyrinth was a bit more cheesy, but that made it all the more fun! And of course, a legendary singer as the main antagonist. Who could argue with that?

Decorations remained on the windows of the concession stand, and clasped between Knock Out's digits were pamphlets. The only difference were the lyrics, updated to include the songs from tonight's movies. As he usually did, the mech greeted the customers, people who walked in and those who came in cars who were on their way to the concession stand. "Welcome to the Portal Breach Drive-In! Enjoy the movies and feel free to get refreshments from the concession!" Knock Out greeted, smiling as he handed a pamphlet to a young woman who had put together a rather nice imitation of Jareth the Goblin King. She even had a clear ball, balancing it in her hands as she rolled it about, smiling back and giving a wave as she continued her path to the building. The former Decepticon shook his head in brief amusement and continued about his business.

Eventually, the whine of turbines drew his attention. Knock Out turned to see the sleek Trans Am, a small smile as he watched the other car search for a parking spot, eventually pulling into it. He gave it a small wave to show he had noticed him. He still had a handful of pamphlets in his servos, but once they were empty he would join the AI. Just as she had yesterday, Nyreena landed outside of the main entrance and walked in, though she definitely looked different. His optics took in the sparkly shoes, brows raised. Shuffling over to the spot she had claimed, the mech held out a pamphlet for her. "I see you've really gotten into the spirit of things." She also had come to the second showing, just as she promised.

As KARR came to park in his space, grass folding beneath his tires as he came to a halt on one of the grassy knolls further back, there was a telltale blip on his scanners. His surveillance mode had picked up something, or more someone, descending from the sky just outside the Drive-In. The form of a woman, familiar to the AI's memory banks as none other than Nyreena.

The same one he had the displeasure of having to tolerate while he was observing The Spine last year, and a few years prior, the pleasure of witnessing her -temporary- demise. Hopefully she would stay to the seating area that was designated for the pedestrians who decided to make their visits, and refrain from accosting the places meant for vehicles.

More specifically, the place he was parked. Though the AI certainyl held no qualms with unleashing his firepower upon the ghostly woman should she begin to grow annoying, there was a matter of their current locale, and who exactly owned it.

An optic witnessed Knockout waving to him from where he was passing out fliers, and KARR replied in turn. Though he lacked hands to wave at the Cybertronian with, the two-toned Trans-Am flicked his high beams on and off. The lights situated just under the edge of his bumper flared with a bright glow twice, before growing dark again. Oddly enough KARR noticed as well that not many of the visitors to the Drive-In came in cars either, watching as a few of the parking spots were filled but there were plenty that were left open. Perhaps in time enough vehicles would show up to make it seem more full.

In the meantime, KARR was content to sit and wait for Knockout to finish handing out the pamphlets to the rest of the customers. < Greetings, Knockout. > Came a familiar deep, graveled voice over their communication frequency. < Shall you be joining me once you are done greeting the customers, or shall I be joining you? > He would keep make sure to keep a space open for the bright red mech.

While she was walking inside to her now favorite place to sit Nyreena had glanced over and noticed the familiar Trans-Am she...distastefully knew as KARR the last she wanted to even deal with was that vehicle while trying to enjoy the movies being shown tonight. Especially with everything that happened between them a few years ago. So as long as he stayed where he was parked and left her be there should be no trouble from either them for the duration of the night. When she reached her spot she took some time to dust off the seat a bit and adjust the cushions to her liking before sitting down and getting comfortable and ready for the show.

As she was comfortable enough in her seat to enjoy the first movie Nyreena noticed Knock Out had come over to her and had noticed her choice in footwear she heard the pun in his greeting and gently laughing at that while taking the program he offered to her she replied, "Oh, but of course. I felt like honoring Dorothy by wearing my own pair of 'ruby' slippers. But of course your fabulous paint job can certainly match that red and more." Having looked around and noticed the cosplayers that had showed while she was getting her seat ready she added, "I do have to say a lot of people are certainly excited to see Labyrinth, especially for a...certain character to say the least. Looks like it's going to be another great night."

Flickering lights were definitely noticed in this darkened area, the only lights emanating from the concession building and from the headlights of other cars. The mech grinned at the signal from KARR, recognizing that the Trans Am couldn't exactly wave back with a hand right now. Not too long after, KARR's signal came through over their communication frequency. < Greetings KARR! > His smooth voice carried over to the AI's end of the frequency. < I'll go ahead and join you when I'm done, it looks like you picked a nice spot! Mind saving me a spot? > Either to the left or the right would be fine, as long as he could comfortably talk with KARR, Knock Out didn't mind.

Ruby red slippers were a fine idea, and inwardly the crimson mech wondered if anybody else would have the same idea. Although Labyrinth had a huge fan following, one couldn't ignore just how much of a classic 'The Wizard of Oz' was! Nyreena chuckled at the pun, taking the papers as he handed them over. "Why, thank you! I may have put in some extra wax on my last buff job... Just for tonight~." It was better than dressing like a lion or wearing a pigtail wig. As for being the tin-man? Well, that was just profiling! Knock Out chuckled deeply, following Nyreena's gaze with a raised metal brow. "Oooh yes. From my research when I was looking up information about tonight's movies, I found a lot of material suggesting that there were lots of fans for Labyrinth. And that he had a big hand in it. I think this musical weekend idea was a great success! Who knew musicals were the key to paying customers?" As he spoke, Knock Out sidled away a couple of steps to continue handing out pamphlets to others who were taking their seats here. "I'll keep that in mind for the future."

Though the light was steadily fading, the two-toned AI could easily make out the mech's grin from further up front, and soon he replied over their frequency. < Certainly, Knockout. > The AI replied, pulling himself into reverse and igniting his turbines. He backed out, then pulled in, turning so that his body blocked the space next to him from anyone who would think to take it. When the bright red Cybertronian decided to stop by, KARR would vacate the second spot so that he could claim it.

Whether or not the mech meant the statement literally or not never crossed his processors.

From where he sat, the AI could still see the screen, though not as optimally as he could should he have been facing it. A few more cars pulled in, his surveillance mode tracking them idly while he observed the conversation between Knockout and Nyreena. His sensors were more than capable of picking up what they were saying from a distance. Although the conversation itself seemed much like small-talk instead of anything particularly interesting. He tinnily scoffed to himself at the ghost's apparent attempt at lip service, finding the comment rather cheap. "Matching her shoes? Please..." his voice box illuminated the dark interior of his cabin with each utterance. Though the colors were close to each other, the last thing the AI would have thought to compare the mech to was a fashion accessory. A certain character drew in most of the crowd tonight, though as for who neither of them said for sure.

Who was this mysterious "he", and why did he have such a big hand in why there were so many of these "fans" for the Labyrinth?

Though there were a number of cosplayers out and about, KARR paid them little mind unless a few passed him by on the way to the concession stand. A few of the better costumes earned a quick scan from him out of curiosity, but otherwise, humans playing dress up were not worth his computing power. Though it seemed the talk between ghost and mech was a parting one, as Knockout sidled off to hand out more pamphlets while the ghost woman situated herself in her seat.

Hearing that Knock Out may or may not (by how he stated it he totally did, especially how finish just gleamed in the lights around the place) had put some extra wax on during his last buff job for tonight Nyreena nodded and replied, "And you certainly did a really good job with it. You are absolutely gleaming tonight." Listening as he added that with the research that he did for the movies tonight and how Labyrinth had a huge following, especially with Bowie having a big hand in it, the ghost nodded in agreement and said, "No kidding. Bowie had a big following already and playing the part of Jareth just made the entire movie go huge. That and with him singing all of the songs the soundtrack went big as well. And me too. By what I've seen from last night and tonight it was a really great idea. And that's a great idea as well. Definitely something to keep in mind just in case something happens and you need a quick fix that'll bring in the customers."

< Excellent! > He watched with an approving optic as KARR pulled out of his space, only to pull back in at an angle. The AI had effectively blocked the parking spot to the side of him with the front of his body, the nose of the car keeping others from parking while staying out of the way of the 'main' road. Definitely efficient, as was to be expected from the Trans Am. He gave KARR a nod of approval before focusing back to the sitting area in front of the concession stand. As he did, the mech briefly appraised the area. He noted with no small amount of approval that the place was clean of any trash. Not even a little kernel of popcorn laying in the dirt! The crimson mech could be quite fastidious when it came to cleanliness here at the Drive-In.

Though compared to the attention he gave to his own paintjob, the plot of land might as well be a junkyard! The mech preened at the compliment, admiring himself with a flick of the wrist. "I always do." Knock Out bragged shamelessly. As for David Bowie, Nyreena confirmed that he was already a big star with his musical career. Many of those fans were probably ecstatic to see him on the big screen, especially as the 'bad guy'. Putting his iron lungs to good use in the soundtrack was also a major plus. "I may look up his songs just out of pure curiosity. After seeing this movie, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious..." The man had a stage presence that the former medic could appreciate! Nodding, he turned to the gathering crowd around them. It wasn't completely full yet, but there was still a nice amount of cars and definitely a lot of bodies walking around the property. As long as this place wasn't a ghost town, he was satisfied. "Who knows? Maybe I'll incorporate some of the more musical Christmas movies for this year... Last year I had two of them and they seemed to be good, but there's definitely more musical Christmas movies to choose from." Now the holidays, those were a great way to draw the crowd. Pairing it with musicals? Oh Primus, now that would be fantastic.

Glancing down at his servos, Knock Out found that the pile of papers had been reduced to nothing, the last pamphlet going to a young woman and her child, a little boy dressed up like a lion and already munching on a chocolate bar from the concession stand. Giving them a polite wave as they took their seats, his empty hands planted themselves on his hips. "Well, I'm going to go grab a cube and a seat to watch the show, but thank you for keeping your word. See you around Nyreena, and enjoy the show!" A brief salute of the digits, and the mech walked around the sitting area to enter the concession stand, metal shifting and groaning with every step.

    Re: Dance Magic Dance

Post by K.A.R.R. on Fri Sep 09, 2016 9:07 pm

The parking space was indeed secured, KARR having caught Knockout's gaze as he had pulled in just so to ensure no one took his friend's place. It would be there for him once he was done with his work, although the AI began to wonder if perhaps he would be able to get to sit down and watch the two movies that would be shown tonight given how much the ghost-girl was talking. For a woman who spoke often, nothing of note was really being... said.

A comment about his paint job, a suggestion to do what was obviously bringing in more sales, and then she revealed who exactly the mystery character was and why he brought in so many fans.

So this David Bowie was the one behind it all. Evidently him playing a character named Jareth was enough to make the movie a success, due to David's own fame evidently from the music he made. Though KARR was admittedly unfamiliar with just about everything he did, as the AI tended to gravitate more towards synthetic beats and classical symphonies, neither of which bore the man's name as their creator. Evidently Knockout was just as unfamiliar, as he idly listened further. Well, if this David Bowie was as talented as his fans hyped him up to be, it would show in the movie, KARR deduced.

Nyreena, as she had proven to be moments earlier, took the role of "yes woman" and agreed with all of the mech's ideas while presenting little to none of her own. For a moment the AI wondered if perhaps the one afternoon in the park that fatefully introduced her cranium to the nose of a diving toy plane may have been the culprit.

... But, the ghost woman had not exactly proven herself to show much aptitude in the wit department, as history had clearly shown in the clear, unbiased data of his memory banks. "Two years, and not a thing has changed. Incredible." He rumbled to himself, the myriad of red and green LEDs illuminating the dark depths of his cabin mingling with the amber flashes from his voice modulator. With a mention of possibly adding Christmas musicals to the list of things Knockout might advertise when the holidays come around, and oddly something about Nyreena keeping her word, the red mech departed to the concession stand.

Keeping her word... From what he could discern usually that meant keeping good on a deal of some sort. Although, what sort of deal could be had that involved arriving to a movie theater, and with that witless ectoplasmic trout?

Their communication frequency buzzed once more, KARR's curiosity unable to be kept quiet.

< I could not help but overhear, you said that Nyreena kept her word about something? > his gravely voice carried a innocent sort of curiosity upon its usually smooth tone. < I am not surprised she would dabble in deals, but I am curious about what part you have in it. >

Knockout was not exactly a devil tending to his many irons in the fire, after all.

Nodding when Knock Out said that he might look up some of Bowie's songs after all of this was over, adding that he would be lying about being rather curious after seeing the movie Nyreena nodded and said to the mech, "Sounds like a good idea. Though personally I don't listen to a lot of his music myself this is definitely the one album that I will listen to time and time again." Then adding that he might add more to his Christmas musical lineup, mentioning that he only showed two the last holiday and they seemed pretty good but knew that there was a lot more out here. Knowing that to be true she replied, "That is so true. I have seen so many over my existence at all the Christmas parties and family movie nights during Christmastime. If you need any help trying to figure out which ones to choose I'll be more than glad to suggest what I know to help get a good list of things to show."

Once Knock Out had handed out the last of his pamphlets and said that he was going to get a cube of energon and take a seat for the show and thanking her for keeping her word Nyreena smiled and waved goodbye as he left saying to him, "Alright I'll see you later! And you're welcome! I'm making sure that I come to all your events from now on, seeing how fun and wonderful they are!" After he left the ghost got herself situated and comfortable, ready for the first movie to start and to be lulled by the wonderful music that Bowie made for the movie, among...other things.

A shame that Nyreena didn't know enough about Bowie to suggest any songs, she seemed as new to him as Knock Out himself. "His songs in this movie are definitely worth listening to several times." The mech agreed with a nod. Surely the music store had a soundtrack for this movie, though if not there was always the library. Nyreena then confirmed the existence of more musical Christmas movies, having seen them at Christmas parties. A metal brow rose up on his face plates, trying to imagine what such parties were like. They couldn't be too different from what the Drive-In had been like, right? Decorations, Christmas movies...and talk of Christmas stuff, like the Santa Claus. When you get down to it, Christmas honestly sounded rather boring at times. "Your input would be appreciated!" He was, after all, something of an outsider in this. As much as he enjoyed human culture, getting an insider's perspective might help his business. "If you ever have an idea and I'm not around, there is a suggestion box on the side of the concession building that is always open for ideas!" A digit gestured back to the aforementioned structure, a wooden box posted on a wall. Although it had seen some use, the crimson mech was actually surprised to find it underutilized. Most people seemed content to watch whatever he decided to show, unless they had specific plans in mind!

Waving his servo back at her, a small smirk of approval grew across his face plates. "Great! I'll be sure to keep my optic out for you in the future!" The more the merrier! Especially if it saw the concession stand selling more food, and one cannot deny the advertising advantage known as 'word of mouth'! Walking inside of the concession stand, Knock Out exchanged greetings with the cashier and the people waiting in line who recognized him. "Hello, hello! Labyrinth will be starting soon! Enjoy the show and enjoy your refreshments." Giving them all a charming smile, the mech disappeared behind the counter. With his workers busy, he could easily grab his own drink without bothering any of them. As he grabbed a clear cube, getting ready to fill it with the refreshing energy, he felt KARR buzz in on his comm. again. He seemed to have heard Knock Out's talk with Nyreena, and thought that the former medic had entered into some sort of deal with the ghostly woman!

Amused by the innocent curiosity, a deep chuckle spilled out across the frequency. < It wasn't any sort of official deal. She had merely expressed interest in coming to the last few themed events I had, but had never shown up for them due to one reason or the other. She promised to come this weekend, and even promised to come every night! So far, she's been keeping her word. > Definitely not the most amazing of agreements. Tickled, he hoped that the Trans Am wasn't disappointed by the rather benign nature of their 'deal'.

The "yes lady" kept up her idea of small talk; everything was a good idea, everything was great. Of course, there was little to find worth criticizing to begin with. KARR had little idea what a David Bowie even was or why he was so important to begin with, though their conversation did give some insight. He could sing, his songs were in this particular movie, and evidently something about the man and this movie made people want to dress up in weird outfits.

For a moment it made the two-toned AI wonder if perhaps humans would do this for the Christmas movies as well. Though as for Nyreena's suggestion that Knockout could ever need her help... The computer would have rolled his optics if he were capable. The ghost could not help herself out of a paper bag, no less aid the cybertronian with his business - even if it was merely for the sake of picking out a movie. As Knockout seemed to accept it however, KARR almost thought his audio receptors were malfunctioning.

"If you ever have an idea and I'm not around, there is a suggestion box on the side of the concession building that is always open for ideas!"

Oh, so it was more along the lines of aid that would befit a typical customer... The AI supposed that was better than going to her specifically, but the idea getting the ghost woman involved in anything that he may have to deal with ground his turbine discs. Especially now that he knew that airheaded apparition was going to be attending all of the events. But... All the same, she merely said she was going to, and with the AI's experience regarding how often a person tended to do what they said... He figured time would tell if she actually pulled through.

His scanners tracked the bright red drive-in owner as he moved around in the concession stand, and found himself slightly confused as he heard Knockout's laughter over their line.

So this deal was more of an agreement instead of gaining anything of value. It admittedly was not the first time he heard of promises, John made promises to to girlfriend all the time, Tony promised The Rev plenty of things as well. Though between both examples, neither of the people involved upheld their own ends of the promise, especially with him. So he supposed he could give Nyreena a point for that.

    A very small, insignificant point.

< Oh, is that all? I suppose that explains what she is doing here. I am not surprised however, that she would express interest and then fail to act on it. But... I am surprised that she is willing to stay outside the ISO's protection even after having seen me. >

Though he knew that starting trouble in Knockout's theater would spark the ex-medic's ire and more, bad blood was still bad blood. He may not be interested in reducing the ghost to a cloud of code at the current moment, but outside the drive-in? She was fair game until she got to the inner city.

Nodding once more about listening to the movie's soundtrack several times in a row Nyreena felt happy that Knock Out appreciated her wanting to help out with the Christmas musical selection and directed her to where to put her suggestions in case she couldn't reach him she nodded in understanding and replied, "Alright then. I'll be sure to write down as many as I can remember and drop it off the first chance I get." Waving goodbye to him as he walked away and greeted a few more customers while announcing that Labyrinth would be starting soon it made Nyreena excited for it to start even more.

And true having seen KARR here, and being out of the protection of the city and the ISOs, Nyreena understood that she was taking a big risk by being out in open territory. (Even though she really wasn't expecting the Trans Am to show up tonight at all, which kind of set her on edge just a bit.) She figured that, just to be sure that she could get back to the capital, she would set out a duplicate decoy that went flying at a natural pace while the real her flew faster than she ever thought she could to get to inner city limits before KARR had a chance to realize her distraction and speed after the real her.

Glowing blue fluid oozed into the clear cube, crimson optics idly keeping watch. His attention was focused more on the conversation with KARR, at the moment. < Yes, I'm afraid that's all! Not nearly as juicy as you were expecting, right? > The mech could understand feeling disappointed. If their places were switched, Knock Out would be been let down by the benign nature of the agreement. < That is rather interesting... Either the movies are just that good, she thinks you'll be nice, or she just cares that much about not letting me down. I was rather upset with her before. > His pointy shoulders shook in an easy shrug. It hadn't been personal, so much as the former medic just didn't like being told one thing and not having it followed through on. Hypocritical perhaps, as he was an admittedly selfish mech who would back out of something to do an activity he would much prefer doing. Knock Out had no illusions about his less than stellar character traits, and he held others to a different standard, at times a high one.

He flipped the switch, stopping the flow of Energon right as it touch the rim of his cube. Leaning down, Knock Out pressed his mouth to it and stole a quick sip. Just enough so that it wouldn't slosh out. With a satisfied "Ah!", Knock Out's servoes gathered the cube along the flat edges in a secure hold. With mechanical footfalls announcing his every movement, the mech left the kitchen and returned to the concession area as he pinged back onto the frequency with KARR. < It sounds like there's a less than savory history between the two of you, if seeing you would make her worried for her own safety. You must have very bad luck with the undead. > He lightly teased, though with an undercurrent of curiosity. KARR was far from harmless, but he also had discipline and logic, so Knock Out was not worried about fights tonight.
