    Un-Sea-Charted

One of the many things that Impa appreciated about this world was how no matter the amount of time that she or her charges spent here, they were always finding different things from their own homeworld of Hyrule. They had found artifacts, items, and other miscellany from their own respective times, from the distant path, the even more distant futures, and even alternate paths in the timeline of the great kingdom. Figuring out just whence so many of these objects came from had been nearly as exciting as discovering them in the first place, and as much as she enjoyed seeing any of them, catching the reactions of her four charges was always the best part. That was especially true if the item in question was extra familiar to them.

Hopefully, that would prove to be the case with this latest one.

A mere hour ago, Impa had warped to the Shadow Temple to tend to some things, and around her checking the surrounding woods, she had happened upon a treasure chest. It was a bit more elaborate than the ones she herself was used to, but thanks to a number of history books, stories from the future Link and Tetra, and even some firsthand experience on the Breach, she still recognized it straightaway, and being the treasure-curious Hyrulean that she was, of course she had to open it.

Inside, she had found something that she herself was certainly keen to see, and far more than that, she knew that Tetra, Link, Zelda, and Link would all be ecstatic to see just what she had acquired. It was a short warp back to the inn, and with the new, mystery item tucked safely in her Hyrulean storage space, the Sheikah soon made her way to the innkeeper’s office. It was a lighter day as it was the middle of the month, but all the same, she could not help but smile when she saw the Hero of Winds tending to some filing.

“Hello, Link,” greeted Impa, nodding to the lad (as well as any present fairies) as she stepped into the room. “I have returned from the Shadow Temple. I trust things have gone well since I set out?” She had full confidence that they had, but all the same, it was always good to check.

Hello Impa! chimed all three fairies altogether upon the Sheikah’s entrance to the office.

“Link is… er… not working very hard,” said Ciela as she flew down, nudged and bopped at the blond head of the innkeeper who had decided to fall asleep on top of his paperwork. “Hey, wake up. Come on!”

The boy groaned, turned his head the other way, earned a tug on his ear for refusing to come out of slumber and then finally lifted his head with a large yawn. “Ha…” He was having a dream about sailing with Zoras, what in Hyrule is so important that he had to… huh, he was sleeping on his desk. Oh yeah, it had been warm and the work was lulling him to sleep. And the there’s Impa…

“Haha...um….” he laughed awkwardly with a wave to their Sheikah guardian. He sheepishly scratched his cheek from being caught sleeping on the job, found that sleeping on documents had caused a postal stamp to adhere itself to his cheek, and he grew even more sheepish as he pulled it off.

“Hello there,” stated Impa, smiling and nodding to Ciela, Neri, and Leaf at their simultaneous greeting. At catching the Spirit of Courage’s assessment of Link at the moment, the Sheikah’s smile simply broadened a touch. The poor lad… it might have been early afternoon, but a good lunch and a peaceful lull in the day appeared to have caught up to him, sending him off to a nice nap. The location might not have been his favorite, but much like his nametwin, the Hero of Winds was capable of falling asleep in a wide variety of places, his desk included.

As Ciela moved to attempt to wake him up, Impa folded her arms, waiting patiently as the boy was roused from whatever dream he had slipped into. It must have been a good one considering how reluctant he was to wake up, and just how satisfying his yawn appeared to be… all the same, the Sheikah met the lad’s sheepish laugh with a gentle smile. “Not to worry, Link. I understand how a peaceful afternoon can lead to such a nap. I take it everything had gone well prior to it, though.”

Considering the fact that all four of her charges were still young teenagers, Impa was never surprised whenever any of them might have needed a nap… the two sleep-loving Links especially. Nap time might have typically been something thought of as important for younger children, but young teens still needed their rest, and in times of peace, she could hardly blame them when they happened to snag one from time to time. So long as it did not become a habit whilst on the job, in her eyes, there was no harm done.

Everything had gone well prior to that, he nodded. Oh yes! Very, very well!

Or did it? Link’s furious nodding slowed a fraction, slowed down further as he started to think of what exactly he was doing before his doze. An uncertain look crossed his face and the nodding slowed down even more as he cast a furtive glance down at his paperwork for clues on what he was working on previously. Oh yeah, completing a new stationery order…

“Ahaha…um…” he looked down at the form and it was very evidently not complete. “Eh,” he sounded, waving it aside. Okay, apart from the stationery order, everything had gone well prior to that.

He stuck the misplaced stamp onto a random envelope, very sure it will be used one way or another, before turning to Impa curiously, and leaving Ciela to tut and shove things around his desk to some semblance of organisation.

“Ah?” he said, eyebrows raised and head tilted quizzically. “Were you looking for me?” translated Neri.

Impa smiled a bit more to Link at his nods, even before he realized that his work was not complete. That was perfectly fine, as even if a non-pertinent task was not yet finished, things had gone well. That was what mattered most, and the Sheikah knew full well that many of the tasks here were not time-sensitive. So long as everything was generally tended to, as it was, she knew that everything was running super smoothly on this ship.

Nodding a bit in turn at Link’s question and Neri’s translation, Impa soon stated, “That I was. I might have found something that I think you and the others would be interested in.” At that, the Sage of Shadow held out her right hand, holding something very familiar. It was a somewhat worn but still decent quality scroll… wrapped up neatly in a roll, and seemingly glistening with the intrigue it surely held. “I do believe I have found a treasure chart.” Or, at the very least… something like that. There was something different form this one, or at least different from the ones that Link and Tetra had since shown her. It was difficult to describe, but Impa knew very well how to trust her instincts on such matters.

Whilst his nametwin was about to be met with a grand surprise, the younger Link was actually in the basement tending to Epona. He had been given a fresh batch of carrots courtesy of Komatsu, and now that they had been washed and otherwise given the chef's seal of approval, he wanted to make sure that he got them to his equine companion straight away. Sure enough, the young horse loved her surprise snack just as much as she ever did, and she appeared to be especially grateful as she let out a couple of extra happy wickers around receiving her new bounty.

Link simply chuckled happily at seeing Epona’s reaction, and he made sure to give her the carrots one at a time so that she would not eat them too quickly and get sick. As he fed out each carrot though, the Hero of Time felt as though the day was only going to get even better once he returned upstairs. He did not have quite the same perception as Impa, or even either of the disguised princesses, but much like the Hero of Winds, he knew how to trust his gut… and just as Epona’s gut was getting full, his was starting to tell him that something exciting was bound to happen soon. Hopefully he was right, and hopefully it was the good kind of exciting!

If it was physically possible for eyes to pop out of heads in surprise, Link's eyes very well could have done exactly that. But as it was not physically possible, he'd just have to settle with very large widened eyes which, over time, turned from surprise, to amazement and then finally to that of a person starved of something for a very long time and was seeing it again for the first time in a veeeeeery long while.

"Where did you find that? Is it trustworthy? It's not cursed or anything, right?" immediately asked Ciela, flitting closer to examine the scroll in Impa's hands. When things like this show up without them having beat off a group of monsters, nor invested a lump of rupees or time in it, the Spirit of Courage cannot help but be a bit suspicious.
