Come One, Come All, to the Talent Showcase!

Rubber soles scraped against the cement lightly as Kev made his way down the side walk, a paper in one hand as they swung by his sides lightly. Clad in a white button up shirt, a dark brown vest, matching shorts and a pair of sneaks, the alien was on a mission. A little talent show had been kicked around in the Sanctuary for months, but finally they were getting somewhere on some ideas and details to make it a reality. No lie, the concept was fun. Just a little thing to spread creative wings. He could tell Nyreena and Shai in particular were in love with the idea, already brimming with ideas for their acts. Kev would just be happy to see people come together for this.

Approaching the bulletin board, the scaly alien turned the paper around in his hands. A notice would do good for brewing interest, garner interest. They couldn't exactly plan an event and expect people to show up without telling them about it. Though the Sanctuary was once the meeting place to come to, it seemed that people had gotten busier lives and they couldn't just drop in every day. Maybe with something on the board...they could reach even the busiest of folks. Flattening the paper on the board with his hands, Kev began to tack the corners to hold it up. He made sure to center it so it'd catch the eye, with large font and information. Pausing to admire his work, the alien nodded to himself and turned back the way he came. He really hoped this would do the trick...

((OOC NOTE: If you are interested in partaking in the talent show case with a talent, either write a post saying so in this thread or PM me. It does not start til the 31st, that gives you almost a month to choose a talent! PLEASE do not bomb the thread with your character performing in the talent showcase if you haven't at least informed me that you want to take part. Nyreena and Shai are cleared to be in the show, but if ANYBODY ELSE wants to be in it, either PM me or post a reaction with your character being interested, here.))

It was getting into the early hours of the evening as an already very hungry bird man was making his way home. The very thought of what lie in his grocery bags was more than enough to make his avian stomach growl. Although, admittedly, most humans would probably turn up their noses at it. On the menu tonight was a pasta dish. It would have thick noodles, as well as some sesame seeds, almonds, and crispy chow mein noodles to give it a complimentary crunch. This all would seem quite up until you realized what its final ingredient was: Mealworms.

The sight of a new ad on the bulletin board made the feathery doctor stop to look. Ahh, it would seem that Kev had gotten around to advertising the talent show! Great! He sat down his groceries and picked up a pen and paper to write a note.

You know I'll be there, Kev! I've got everything mostly planned out except for the food and my costume. Maybe I'll get it custom made? I don't know. I still have time to think about it, I guess. I'll be checking back on this ad every day to get an idea of how many people might be coming. I look forward to it!

Ahh, evening! It was one of Ola's favorite times to go out for a walk. The sky would turn all these amazing colors, and all the city lights would just barely start to become visible. Others would probably point out how it was never quite as hot in the evening, but truly, the mummy didn't care about that. Her species was built for the heat, after all.

As she passed by the bulletin board, the bandaged alien couldn't help but notice an ad that wasn't there the last time she walked by it. It appeared to be an ad for that upcoming talent show, by the looks of it. Ola had heard about it, and was looking quite forward to it herself. More interesting to her, however, was a little note tacked to the ad. It appeared to have been written by the local avian doctor, Shaiamils. It would seem that he was possibly interested in a custom-made costume.

This gave the alien an idea. She had vastly improved on her seamstress skills as of late, and this might be a good opportunity for her to advertise herself and her services. Yeah, that sounded like an idea! She added her own note and tacked it onto Shai's.

Hey Shai! So I see you're possibly interested in a custom-made costume? I think I might be able to hook you up with one! Just give me a call and I'll give you the details!

    Ahh... another year, another chapter.

Feet quietly shuffled amidst the hustle and bustle of the evening rush, those working 9-5 jobs eager to cast off their shoes and relax at home with family, pets, friends, or even just themselves. Zurg was one such individual, the horned alien barely discernible in the colourful crowd of humans, extraterrestrials, fiends, and whatever else imaginable.

Gone were the days of his imposing battle armour and robes, exchanged for a simple brown apron with smiling daisy embroidered on its front. No more sinister weaponry, no more arrogant displays of showmanship, no more hollering and barking... Just a quiet man on his way home after a modest shift at work, his uniform rich with the striking aroma of fresh soil and flora. Tired red eyes picked themselves up off the sidewalk. Seven years already... Seven years since Portal Breach's conception. Funny, it felt... longer. Time was strange here, though; so much had happened within those seven years that it felt more like ten, fifteen, sometimes twenty. From zany picnic battles to doomsday tournaments, to unforgettable adventures with unlikely friends, to heartbreaking grief and loneliness, to love in the most unlikely places and to bittersweet farewells... Yes, so much had happened within those seven, wonderful and agonizing years. A sigh escaped the alien as he crossed the boulevard, hands in his pockets. "Now, now, Zurg... No use reminiscing about the past and feeling glum about it," he told himself quietly.

Things weren't so bad, he thought. Even if the city seemed quieter and Zurg drowned himself in work, there was plenty to be grateful for. The alien had a wonderful home with wonderful company, he woke up to a faithful and loving companion every morning, found his clothes buried underneath mountains of cat hair, and had a very good friend he could share gripes with regarding Jo's abhorrent mannerisms. Plus, he had two stable jobs and could spend a day or two relaxing! Not that he really enjoyed a forced breather, but stress was a killer, so... Yes, plenty to be grateful for and happy about. "No use, no use, no use," Zurg continued to mutter, rounding a familiar corner. Things were quiet and that was fine. The world feeling smaller was just a trick of the - "...?" The alien at once stopped in his tracks and cut his thoughts off early, his sights zipping to oil-smeared woman standing near the city's bulletin board.

There was no mistaking that messy brown bun in all the Cosmos, nor those incredibly dirty overalls either. Zurg felt a corner of his lip twitch. Sigh...

"Jo?" he addressed her, curbing his surprise. "Jo, what are you doing out here?"

"Jo, what are you doing out here?"

The light in Jo's brown eyes instantly brightened.

"Big Z~!" she happily exclaimed. You stay right there, buster, because you needed to see this! Like a carnosaur smelling a big juicy hunk of meat, the mechanic zoomed away from the billboard and practically threw herself at the hooded alien. "Big Z~!" she purred again, rubbing her face against his chest. Aww, so warm! And... sniff, sniff... kinda smelly. What was this, dirt and fertilizer? Someone was getting a bath before bed~! "I'm so happy to see you!"

"Jo, we sort of live together..."

Oh that spoilsport. She huffed and lightly punched him in the arm. "Grump, grump, grump," Jo mock scowled. Remind you of anyone? "Live together, schmive together - I'm always happy to see you." Well, except when it was time to do laundry and housework... then Big Z was just a downright tyrant. Anyway! The mechanic pivoted on her boots and took her morose lovebird by the hand, eagerly guiding Big Z toward the bulletin board. Hey, this was harder than it looked, because he was he-he-avy! "I'm out here because of this!" she cheerfully piped up, pointing to a pasted flyer. No, Big Z... not the one about the group of male escorts looking for work. Though you would think she was pointing to that one, you poop! "Kev is hosting a talent show at the end of this month! Doesn't that sound really interesting? I think we should either participate or help out!" Big Z didn't seem quite as enthused...

"I don't really have any, er, talents..." he mumbled.

Jo softly frowned. "What about laser eyes? Or, ooh, a ventriloquist act!"

    A pause.

"...I don't really have any entertaining talents."

Pfft! The mechanic knew a losing battle when she heard one. "Well, I guess we're both a little average in our own rights, huh?" Still! Jo wasn't about to give up - not on the talent show and not on her sad little Zurgy-thingy. "Okay, how about weeeee... help out with the setting up?" she suggested, firing on all thrusters. "We can help with the chairs, the tables, stage, etc! Ooh, maybe we can even assist with food, too! The more the merrier, right~?"

"If anyone is even going to bother showing up..."

"Oh Big Z, you pessimist." Jo playfully rolled her eyes and retrieved an oily pen from one of her many pockets, smiling. "Even if it's just a small crowd, it's a reason to get out of the house and mingle with peeps! Besides, when's the last time you went to a talent show?" No response. "Uh-huh, thought so. Now, let's see..." Scribble, scribble, scribble...

Hi, Kev! Jo and Big Z here. We'd absolutely love to help out with the talent show. Just give us a ring - Hey Kev, Zurg here. Jo forgot that you can't really use a pho - I DID NOT FORGET. Big Z, move it, this is my pen - Illegible ink scribbles indicate a brief skirmish over the pen - ha, victory! Anyway, expect us. If you need help with setting things up, food, just whatever, we're your guy and gal! It'll be so nice seeing familiar faces and we hope to catch up with you soon!

    XOXO

    Around 3:30 PM

Two girls were walking home from school, one, the taller blue girl, was remarking how happy she was it was Wednesday. It was that much closer to the weekend, that much closer to two days of freedom where she could procrastinate on her homework and goof off. The smaller girl of the two listened patiently to her friends plans.

"I think I might end up going to the park. I'm not really sure though, Tally might have plans." Ttone would be able to get all of her homework done tonight, and then the rest of her weekend would be free. Maybe they'd end up going to a movie...or going out to eat. Speaking of food Ttone really hoped that Tally made mac and cheese again tonight. Ttone just really wanted mac and cheese.

"Holy shit!" Kat suddenly yelled, grabbing Ttone and dragging her over to the bulletin board. "Look! look! Ttone turned around and looked up at the poster that Kat was pointing to.

    "A talent show?"

"Yeah! We should totally sign up! We could do magic!"

Ttone stared at Kat, just confounded. "Magic? But, we don't have magic."

"Not Magic, magic! Like magicians and stuff! It'd be really fun!" Kat explained, and Ttone had to admit, it did sound pretty fun. In agreement about it Kat grabbed the pencil and wrote down a note.

"Hey! Kat and Ttone here! We're totally going to sign up for this! Count on us to do a magic show that will blow your fuckin mind!"

Sandals clapped against the cement this time as the alien walked down the street. City Noise had been closed up for the day, and as always, Kev was going to drop by the Sanctuary. However, this time he was going to make a slight detour, even though the detour was right next door to it! Shai had wanted to know how much food to prepare for people. Though Kev had not received any calls yet, it would be a good idea to see if anyone had responded on the board! Of course, he wasn't expecting too many responses...it had only been a couple of days. Curiosity still nipped at his heels and made him eager to know. Eager to see. As he caught the board in his eyesight, the scaly man jogged over with a bounce to his step. Skidding to a stop, imagine his surprise as he saw not one, not two, but four little notes attached to his poster! In just two days!

Shai's note was first, the bird man confirming that he was ready to join the talent showcase. Food and a costume were still in the works, but otherwise Shai was already figuring everything out for his act! His response was quite eager, if a little unsure about his costume, and it made the alien's chest warm that Shai's interest and support in this had been very consistent. Every bird loves a chance to sing, right? Another note was tacked onto Shai's, a direct response from Olabisi. The mummy alien offered his assistance to make him a costume, urging him to call. That wrapped itself up rather well, and Kev was interested to see what Olabisi had to offer for her clothes making skills!

Jo and Zurg's note received a more physical response, as the mouthless alien reached up to pressed his fingertips to their note. His eyes scanned the words, chuckling lightly at the scratchy writing from where the couple fought over the pen. His two best friends offered their assistance, no doubt as eager as he was to see the community come together for an event. Squinting fondly, Kev made a mental note to visit his friends and drop by. With their help either with food or constructing the stage, this talent showcase was looking less like a dream and more like something that would really happen! One more stroke to their note before he moved to the last, the shortest but in no way the least. It had been years since he had last seen Kat, nowhere near as long for Ttone. So the two were going to put on a magic show? How cute! Like a couple of Houdinis... The language drew a raised eyebrow, but his enthusiasm could not be dampened. Satisfied with the responses, Kev grabbed for a pen and some paper, tacking his response next to everybody else's. Nodding his head in approval, the alien continued on his way and entered the building of the Sanctuary.

Thank you all for the speedy responses! I will keep returning to the board to see who writes on here, but I want to thank everyone who has expressed interest so far! Jo and Zurg, I will contact you very soon, both to talk about ways to help and to catch up! : ) Shai, I will keep you updated on how many people are interested! Good luck on the costume and on your act! Kat and Ttone, be prepared to wow us with your magic tricks!

    -With good thoughts, Kev! XOXO

This bulletin board has something new on it. WHAT IS THIS? A TALENT SHOW? FOR SHOWING OFF TALENT? Uriel fumbles around in his short pockets for a writing utensil. Nothing. Crap. Um. Oh! Pulling his headphones off, he cracks his knuckles and focuses his magicks on his finger tip. Writing on the board with glowing rune finger! That works!

    URIEL, POI DANCE.

Standing back and observing his work, he nods happily. Alright. Now time to work out a routine in two weeks. Should be easy!

The Revenant skips backward and makes a hurried and jovial walk home. This should be great! Showing off is the best part of living!

Deciding to check out the flyer that Kev would be putting up on the board and when Nyreena arrived to see what it looked like and holy cow was she blown away. Looking it over she was quickly amazed and excited at everyone that was either going to help out and going to participate in the show. Especially all the dancing that was going to take place from not just her and Shai but from Uriel as well. Truthfully she was starting to get a bit worried but she remembered that it was in good fun and to showcase what kind of talent everyone had in them and quickly lost that worry.

Seeing that there would also be a magic act being thrown into the mix, which in her opinion was stantard for a talent showcase, it was really starting to look like like this was really coming together. Gently reflecting back on the memories of the talent shows she saw during the summers back home in New York this whole thing was really starting to make this world feel like home. Deciding to leave a note as well she grabbed a pen and wrote in her elegant script:

Hey Kev. Wow this thing has grown into something truly wonderful and it just keeps getting better and better. I really can't wait to perform with you and everyone else that wants to be a part of it. This...this really reminds me of the talent shows back home in New York and this is making this place feel like it's really...home. I hope that this is keeps growing bigger and bigger and this kicks off the summer on a high note. See you soon!-Nyreena

Yet another pointless stroll by the Bulletin Board on his way to work, as he made a point to do once a week for whatever reason. He wasn't sure why he bothered usually, seeing as nothing posted there seemed to catch his eye—what's this?

Finally… A flier that definitely concerned him! It was almost as if it had been written specifically for him; it would seem that Kev was organizing a talent show! Many had already signed up for the event. Dancing, singing, magic tricks… The typical sort of thing one would expect to find at a showcase such as this one. The most recent one was particularly interesting, seeing not only as it had obviously been printed from a computer, but:

I will also partake, if permitted. I will be performing an original song. Signed, The Spine.

He supposed it wasn't that odd in and of itself, but next to "a magic show that will blow your fuckin' mind," it seemed almost comically formal. Allowing himself a slight snicker at the shenanigans of those before him, he whipped a metallic pen out of thin air and added his own  note to the list:

Count me in. No animals will be harmed, yada yada.
    You're welcome! ~ Discord

The pen vanished, and he was moving along once again, a couple ideas already whipping up a literal brainstorm cloud that followed him at his horns.

    Huff... Huff... Huff...

There was nothing like a morning run through the city streets, just before the afternoon sun reached its glaring zenith. The temperature was comfortable, not too cold and not too hot, and sometimes a light breeze weaved in-between lonely alleyways and towering skyscrapers. It was a generous reprieve from the air's stillness.

Heavy footsteps thundered against concrete as Rasa 'Jeqkogoai ran, the broad-shouldered Sangheili out during his morning exercise routine. Today was the human day of Sunday; hardly anyone was out, most choosing to enjoy a few extra hours of sleep or appreciating their time with family and friends. Seeing how the warrior hardly overslept and seldom had acquaintances of his own, maintaining his physique seemed to be a reasonable decision. After all, a sedentary lifestyle was synonymous with old age or disability - at worst, laziness. Rasa 'Jeqkogoai was none of these things.

For an hour, he must have ran. Sometimes he jogged when his breath escaped him, sometimes he power-walked to regain his stamina, but for the majority he ran. Heavy was his brow with sweat, the Sangheili's leathery skin glistening with moisture. His taut muscles burned, his lungs ached for another short rest. Good, he thought. The pain meant his body was getting the workout it so desperately needed. Even as his thighs quaked and his toes began feeling tender, Rasa 'Jeqkogoai would not yield - not until he was satisfied with the intensity of his exercise. Golden eyes picked themselves up from the sidewalk to spot a familiar street corner up ahead. Ah, excellent! He was nearly done with his first circuit. Perhaps he should go for another? As he rounded the bend and passed the city's bulletin board, something flashed in the corner of his vision.

    He nearly missed it.

Thick heels skidded to a sudden halt, the soldier's chest swelling with greedy pants. There must have been countless fliers posted, dozens of them, easily a hundred of them. Job offers, eager applicants, things for sale or trade... And, apparently, a talent show. That wasn't what had caught Rasa 'Jekqogoai's eye, however. He stepped closer and stooped, "Ttone?" Yes, there was no doubt about it. Ttone had signed herself up for this talent show, along with... sigh, Kat. A little hellion, that girl was. The Sangheili could only shake his head with quiet disapproval as he began perusing the other names tacked onto the sheet.

Shai? Uriel? The Spine? Huh, odd names... He didn't recognize any, save for Ttone, Kat, and Kev. Wonder what the scaly alien was doing these days... Hopefully he kept out of trouble, but it was awfully generous of his time and patience to bring the community together. Rasa 'Jeqkogoai found himself pensively humming. "Hmm... dances, magic tricks, songs, and a surprise," he murmured. It seemed like a full performance. Should he...?

The Sangheili debated with himself only for a minute before signing his own name to the roster. Might as well, no? It was a good way of mingling with the populace and learning more about the inhabitants of this incredibly bizarre world.

Plus, it'd be a great way to show everyone a piece of Sangheili culture.

Greetings, Kev. I hope everything is all right with you. Saw your advertisement for the talent show at the bulletin board, and I would like to participate. My contribution shall be a cultural dance, a war cry of my people's noble ancestors. It would honour me very much if you would accept my humble proposition. I promise not to dismember anyone in the audience.

    Sincerely,

    --Rasa 'Jeqkogoai

It was another relatively normal day for Njorth. It was still the weekend, too, which meant that he had a welcome bit of time to himself without having to worry about keeping his shelves stocked. As the Nord passed the local bulletin board, something caught his eye. It appeared to be an advertisement that he had never noticed there before. But for what, he wondered. The alchemist squinted, leaning towards it. Ah, so it was for a community talent show! Admittedly, it did sound like a wonderful idea.

Njorth scratched his chin as he continued to peruse the information on the flier. It would seem that the talent show was two days from now. This was giving him some ideas. Not for a performance, but for a way he could help out. Maybe it could help him advertise his shop, too? He picked up a pen and some paper and started to write.

If it's alright with you, I'd like to help out with concessions. If you could provide me with a grill, I'd be more than happy to whip up some burgers and hot dogs for the performers and guests. If this is going to be a problem, please contact me. Thank you, and I hope to see you there!
