The creature with the icy touch reeled back, and so too did Danny. It's talons were the only thing holding him upright as his muscles withered, until he could no longer sit up on his own. There was a choked, gurgling sound as the remains of what used to be Danny fell back upon the hard floor, his skull breaking with a sharp thud. Danny's final words were a soft gurgle, putrid rot dribbling from his chapped mouth, before he too expired.

Kevin would be joining him shortly.

His first punches had been lucky, the sin of his knuckles breaking as they collided with solid bone. While the mortuary was pitch dark, Kevin could clearly see those two red glowing lights reel back as his blows connected. "Gotcha!" He exclaimed, confidence growing in his chest. If he could just keep his punches focused on that thing's eyes, maybe, just maybe he could get out of this... And find someone to help Danny.

"You only compound your sssinss, come and sssurrender yourssself to the righteouss path, the path of death!"

"You want some more!? Come on then, get so--!" The man never got to finish his sentence.

    SKASH!

Icy fire ripped across his face, burning through his skin, his flesh and down to the very bone of his skull. He choked out a scream, the pain enough to halt him in his tracks. He could still see his attacker's eyes, glowing brightly in the dark, little did he know that the all devouring shadows concealed the fact he was now blind in one eye. Next he heard a soft, wet ripping sound, and another powerful sting ripped upwards from his stomach. He could feel something warm and wet dribbling down his thighs, and hear a heavy wet plop! One hand clutched his face, and the other reached down to his stomach.

His hand met something warm and wet; blood. "...S-shit..." He gasped, knowing that a few of the soft things attached to it had to be his innards. He did not know which, and he did not want to know which ones, as an icy chill screamed down his spine. "W-what did you do to me...?" He whimpered, unaware of the necrosis that was quickly eating its way into his dying body.

Up against the coolers, Keith stared unblinkingly at the smiling visage that had him trapped. He heard Danny's screams, he smelled the fresh gore being spilled. Sweat trickled down his brow, his mind screaming for him to run while his body refused to cooperate. Destined for death, destined for Hell... "N-no...No, w-we don't have to do this! I can be valuable!" he pleaded, attempting to convince whatever this creature was as much as himself. It did not care for money, for the organs... D-did it want the building?! his thoughts silenced as the mysterious being paused, becoming thoughtful before saying there was indeed something he could do for him.

"You wisssh to sssavour additional time on the clock? Here. Get up. Get up, Keith, and earn your right to live. Get up and kill Dave."

    Kill...Dave?

He hesitantly accepted the scalpel that was offered to him, weighing his options in his mind. Keith, while he was the brains behind the operation, never had opened up a body and scooped out the organs, he never had to cart in the people they 'operated' upon, and he certain never went with Danny and Kevin when they found and drugged the persons that they made a profit off of. He just stood back and let the money flow to his pockets.

"...god." He looked down at the blade, the only way he knew it was even there being the weight in his pal and the light that reflected off the surgical steel. A hand went to cover his mouth as he shakily breathed, before moving up to sweep slowly back over his sweat-matted hair. He could kill Dave and live...Or he could die with everyone else. "...god, oh god..." Now that the blade was in his hand, that he was now the one with the ability to kill... Gravity struck him with force, along with an odd sense of power and urgency.

How important was Dave, really? Was he worth sparing, when he knew that these ghouls would probably kill him anyway after they were done doing... Whatever it was to Kevin, to Danny? His thoughts quickly reminded him of Steven's fate, terror clawing down his back. No, he did not want to end up like them. He wanted to live, he wanted to survive! A few more shaky breaths rattled from his mouth, and his grip tensed around the scalpel. "I-I'll do it. J-just g-give me... Give me a moment." He put his hands on his knees, bent over as he tried to compose himself, get ready to kill someone for the first time... God, he was really going to do this, wasn't he?

    Now, where was Dave--?

Out of the corner of his vision, he swore he could see something moving, hear something crawling across the floor. "D-dave..? Is that you?" Get ready, Keith... It was now or never. "L-let me help you."

Keith was acting odd, why was he just standing there with that thing? Why wasn't he trying to run? From his place on the floor, he could just see something being handed off to their leader, the sweat pouring down his face as he tried to reason with whatever had gotten Steven. It was only when he adjusted to try and help him did he see what was in his hand. It was only a small outline of blue, a reflection from the creature's glowing face, but he knew a scalpel when he saw one. Immediately he jumped to the ordeal he had dealt with moments ago, the feeling of something rummaging around in his brain. Could that be what was happening to Keith?

In the darkness a snarl made its way across his features, anger mingling with the throbbing in his head. That bastard... It was screwing with Keith wasn't it?! "You put that fucking knife down, you hear me?" He warned, managing to stand to his feet, his own scalpel in hand. "You take one step closer while you're holding that and I'll cut you." Maybe it would be enough to make him think, to get him to step back and make a run for it instead of doing what he knew that thing wanted him to do.

"I-I can't. I can't do that." Keith uttered, his hands shaking as he took another step forward.

"Keith, don't you fucking dare, don't you fucking--!" Before he knew it, the man was on top of him, and the two were rolling on the floor, through puddles that stank of blood, of decay. Scalpels were swung wildly, each barely knowing where they were aiming in the darkness.

"N-no...No, w-we don't have to do this! I can be valuable!"

Maybe and maybe not. That was for him to decide.

All the same, sinners could be worth their iniquitous weight in entertainment. That's all Keith and Dave were - squealing pigs for the slaughter. Loathe to relinquish his vantage point (as well as the spectacular view), Fear kept largely to the shadows. The darkness weaved around his gangly features like any fine cloak, leaving the hellish glow of his helm hovering visibly in the gloom. That's right, sinners, that's right... Fight, so that you may breathe another wicked breath. Fight, so that you weren't just weak, expendable pieces of degenerate filth. "Sss..." A pleased hissed escaped the superfiend at the sight of first blood. Look upon the men there, writhing upon the floor as each tried in vain to slay their foe. Beasts! They were nothing more than starving mongrels quarreling over a scrap of meat.

But still the ghoul watched with heightened anticipation, his disgust for the mortals paling in comparison to his pleasure in watching them contend for their lives. Selfish brutes... Did their depravity know no bounds?

A hushed voice whispered in the dark and tickled the men's ringing ears.

    Kill, kill, kill.

What did he do, Kevin asked. What did Mortis do indeed.

"I have placed you on the path to sssalvation, sssinner." The superfiend hissed in the dark, his gravelled voice echoing in the nearly empty room. Keith was dead, Steven was dead... And soon, dear Kevin would join them. Although it was satisfying to watch the man finally kneel, cupping his innards in a vain attempt to keep them in. While death was the ultimate reward, Mortis could not help but something incredibly pleasing about watching a sinner suffer during their final moments.

The look of dread on their faces as they comprehended their end...

How their hearts fluttered in their chest and breaths caught in their throat...

Oh, and the tremors, those little shudders that danced along their paling flesh, adrenaline making their bodies jitter and quake...

    There was nothing like it.

Though Kevin may not be able to see it, Mortis' gaze briefly glanced over to the events occurring at the far end of the morgue, where his brother's grin glowed brightly. It seemed the other two sinners they had come across were now being put to a better, more entertaining purpose. Ah, the way Fear could warp a man's mind, it made his own efforts look like mere butchery. Though, as much as the surperfiend would not have minded taking a moment longer to admire his brother's fine work, he still had a sinner or his own to purge.

Kevin, sitting there so patiently, just for him. It was best he not make him wait any longer than he needed, the path to innocence awaited. "Come, ssssinner, let me wasssh away thossse sssinsss. Your friend awaitsss you on the other ssside." He coaxed, sickeningly sweet. His claws audibly flexed in the dark, creating a chorous of popping and crackling. Any light that managed to come his way reflected off the fresh gore that coated their lengths, droplets of red slowly rolling off their sharpened tips and pattering softly on the tile floor. It was time that Kevin knew salvation, that he joined Danny and Steven in their wait for Keith and Dave.

He stepped forward, claws outstretched as he let his wet fingertips glide under the man's chin in a caress. The claw of his thumb slowly swiping across Kevin's cheek and slicing his flesh in the process. With the man's face gripped in one hand, he tilted him so he looked up, frightened eyes meeting his empty sockets in the dark. Mortis' other hand came to rest upon his head, brushing back his short, thick hair as the superfiend's rotting touch set to work. Flesh withered within his grasp, blood curdled and turned to meal, and bone grew brittle, turning to dust.

The crime was life, and the sentence was death.

The path to salvation... It certainly was nothing like he had ever heard of it being. There was nothing but pain, excruciating with every slight jostle or tilt of his body. His hands shook as he fervently tried to keep his innards within him, trying to ignore the wet warmth that flowed freely down the side of his face and neck. Although, he was uncertain if it was the blood loss that was making him feel weak, or if he was simply in shock. Regardless, his hands were too full to try and fight off the creature as he heard it step forward, something popping in creaking in the dark.

A stinking reek of decay burned his nostrils, worming into his throat and choking his lungs. The urge to vomit made his head swim, nausea bringing him to curl inward and gag as he knelt on the floor. He could faintly hear that... that thing hissing in his ears over the drumming of his own pulse. "N-no..." He sputtered, bloody bile dripping from his lips. Even though he could not fight, he still protested, gritting his teeth as he felt wet hands... Bloody hands, grasp his face.

The intimacy, the tenderness of this monster unnerved him and turned his stomach. A fresh cut opened upon his face and Kevin snarled, his brow furrowing as he was forced to look his attacker in the eyes. "Y-you murderer... A-acting like some damned messiah! He managed to work up enough moisture in his mouth to spit at him. "You're nothing but some- some sick fuck!" He sputtered through the pain. Not that it mattered, as that weakness started to spread through his body, even as he tried to wrench his face away from the killer's grip, the way he gently caressed him only igniting his temper further.

"No! N-no! Don't you fucking touch me!" Kevin yelled, fear punching him in the gut and sending a surge of adrenaline through him. He thrashed in the creature's grip, his legs slipping out from under him to kick blindly in the dark.

Back along the coolers, Dave and Keith were in the middle of their own spat. Still rolling on the ground, Keith jerkily stabbed at what had used to be one of his partners in crime. Over and over, the scalpel came down, sometimes hitting the floor, and other times...

"AUGH! DAMMIT!" Dave howled, slicing at the man he was entangled with. All the while he swore he could hear something, a voice that urged and chanted alongside the throbbing in his head...

    Kill, kill, kill.

Kill Keith, slash his throat, spill his blood! He had to, if he wanted to survive. Within Keith's head, the same command repeated itself, urging him through the tears that blinded his vision and the pain that flared in his side from where Dave managed to land a lucky hit. "I-I'm s-s-sorry!" He blubbered, sobbing as he brought his weapon down again. Blind, frantic, unpracticed... Their leader only knew his way around a blade as much as he knew where any of his profits came from or how to even extract his precious software from a sedated body.

But Dave, Dave knew his way around a scalpel, and around a human body. Above the adrenaline he managed to bring himself to try and aim his strikes, feeling his way around and trying to get a grip on Keith. If he could sink this into his spine... Maybe even the back of his neck, he could hopefully still get himself out of this nightmare and escape outside.

Thrice his blade came down upon Keith's back, his blows guided by the hand he had upon the back of Keith's shirt.

Indeed, the cultivation of a man's depravity was slow - intimate. To tempt a mortal into the clutches of sin and temptation was a fine, meticulous process that required the utmost patience and understanding of the mind's fathomless intricacies. Keith was a suitable example. Spineless, greedy, without scruples... Keith was a man of the pocketbook, a pioneer of capitalism and self-made success. By kidnapping hapless victims off the street and stealing their organs for the highly lucrative black market trade, he had made quite the cushy life for himself. The same was of course not said of his victims, but do you think he rightfully cared? Keith would do anything and anything to get ahead in life; he had already proven how voracious his selfish appetite could be when plunging the scalpel into Dave's flesh.

    "I-I'm s-s-sorry!"

    But were you really, Keith?

As for his opponent, Dave was hardly any better. He was just as greedy as his employer, carving up bodies for the sake of filling his pockets with cold, lifeless cash. It was amazing what sinners will do for something so capricious as wealth. Everyone died, everyone ceased to be... Could money truly stave off the inevitable forever and ever? Metal flashed in the darkness with quick swipes and slashes, Fear's numerous eyes mesmerized by the fleeting glints. Dave certainly knew his way around a blade...

Keith... whispered a dark voice. The man's thoughts became invaded by an unwanted and chilly presence. Keith, I am beginning to think that I backed the wrong horssse. Kill him now, or I ssshall extend my offer to Dave.

No harm in a little friendly competition, was there?

Murderer he called him, sick he said... misguided and delusional insults typical of the sinful. The ghoul hissed, red pinpricks burning in the impenetrable dark. "On the contrary, Kevin. I would sssooner make that claim of you than me." He could read the man's thoughts, gleam into his memories and ruminations like one looked through a book. Kevin willfully lead these men and women to their doom, hand in hand with Danny they seduced through pleasant conversation, drugged their drinks, and then hauled them off in the back of an unmarked van. All with nary a thought to anything aside from their cut of the profits.

Yet he could see him snarling in the dark, outraged that he would even think to be set on the righteous way, the way of death. Spittle sprayed in the icy air, and the ghoul's patience was laced with flame. He was going to especially enjoy killing this sinner. He tried to wrench away from the ghoul's grip, and it only tightened around his skull, sharpened claw tips digging into his flesh and carving ruts into the bone of his skull.

"You are ssso full of sssin, and yet ssso blind to it. Allow me to open your eyesss, Kevin. Let me ssshow you the right path, the true path--" His sibilant diatribe was cut short by the sound of thudding against his host. in Kevin's fury and panic, he lost his footing and began to kick wildly at him. Though Mortis' limbs were skeletal and not as well toned as the muscle's limbs had been, they did not give under the abuse. Much like Giant Jr. had discovered when he decided to get physical with the beastly looking superfiend years back, the ghoul felt more like a solid stone wall than a rotted corpse.

Aside from a few bloodied boot prints upon his leathers, the man's efforts had about the same effect as kicking a stone wall as well.

The ghoul's grip tightened upon Kevin's face, holding him aloft by the head where his legs failed to support him. "Ssss... Ceassse your ssstrugglesss, ssssinner. Accept your fate." Mortis soothed, sickly sweet as his necrotic touched continued to work itself into Kevin's deteriorating body. Soon, he would be nothing more than a pile of bones and rancid meat.

Thunk! Thunk! his feet lashed out twice, and twice he could feel them connect with something in the dark. The creature's legs, he assumed through his head, which swam under the ravenous decay as it set into him in full. He could feel himself growing lighter, and a burning in his gut that suggested that his stomach and managed to grow rotten and ripe enough to split and dribble its acidic contents down his abdomen. Though he could hardly fathom how or why, his thoughts grew fuzzier, his grasp upon his focus tentative as his brain was slowly eaten away from within his very skull.

For some reason he came to the conclusion that the creature wanted that to go last.

He knew he was becoming weaker, his hands could hardly raise to grasp at his attacker's arms, his grip shaking with tremors and sliding off the fabric of his clothing. All the while he swore he could feel something, faintly, peeling off from his hands as he pawed at them. Whether it came from the creature or himself, he did not know.

"S-shutup!" He spat, his face becoming gaunt and skeletal under his attacker's touch. "you shut the fuck up! Y-you don't know shit about me!' Sin, paths, calling him sick. This monster had no right to tell him what he was, when it had been the reason he was now cut open and bleeding out, that it was why Danny was so silent. It was all this thing's fault, he was just fine until it came here! The man grit his teeth as he felt talons dig into his skull down to the bone, pain stabbing into his head like a knife and keeping him conscious even as his body began to feel so heavy, so tired.

Kevin felt his body supported in his attacker's grip, essentially hanging by the skull off the ground, while his legs still flailed. He kicked out again, desperate to try and escape the talons that grasped his head.

"AAGH!" A stabbing pain bit into his back, Dave's scalpel managing to sink itself into his back, but not close enough to disable. He could feel something had been severed, blood running freely from the wound and down the back of his shirt. Keith stabbed blindly, retaliating as adrenaline rushed through his veins. Although just as he felt its jab into his ribs, he could hear something uttering in his mind.

    Keith...

Something dark, something cold. It slithered in his mind like a serpent and skittered along the inside of his skull like many tiny, spidery legs. For a moment his strikes faltered as his focus was pulled between self preservation and trying to ignore the growing disgust and unease that it left behind.

Keith, I am beginning to think that I backed the wrong horssse. Kill him now, or I ssshall extend my offer to Dave.

    It was him.

"N-no! I'll do it! I'll do it!" He pleaded, concern for his own well being rising to drown out his blubbering about having to kill his remaining worker. Dave, meanwhile, was left to squint and stare at his former employer, unaware of the voice that was plaguing the man's thoughts. Though to say the man was fucking nuts would be redundant, given his behavior, but...

"You're fucking nuts!" He barely had time to speak before Keith rolled him over onto the floor, now wet and slick with blood, his weight pressed against his chest, and keith used his new leverage to stab Dave repeatedly into the chest. Beneath him, the surgeon wailed in pain, and he quickly sought a new means of incapacitating his betrayer.

The stomach. Unprotected, sensitive, vulnerable. His scalpel blade was still sharp, all it would take is a few quick slices and Keith would be rolling on the floor, trying to hold himself in. One hand upon the man's arm that was pinning him to the floor, Dave's arm whipped in a series of slashes just below the ribs.

    "You're fucking nuts!"

    Goodness.

Blood, sweat, death... The sinners were falling one-by-one, their panicked screams and desperate stink pure satisfaction. Any moment now... Any moment, and Mortis would soon rot another immoral cretin to indistinguishable organic mulch. It was only a matter of time, same with the two fools tussling before Fear's rancid feet. There was no promise of leaving unscathed, in this bastion of depravity. No chance of survival, no glimmer of hope. Be it Keith or David who triumphed and declared himself the victor, the doomed man was fated for a grueling demise. No harm in drawing things out further for entertainment purposes, now, was there? No, don't suppose there was... After all, even the butcher had to get his kicks in-between cuts of meat and offal.

A wail of pain, followed by the visceral tearing of supple flesh. Ahh... it seemed Dave had gotten sloppy, but what was this? There was a thought, however fleeting, in the surgeon's racing mind. Sneaky, Dave, sneaky...

    Do it.

Clothing and skin ripped open like the softest silks, the mindless carnage seemingly without end.

"S-shutup! You shut the fuck up! Y-you don't know shit about me!"

Is that so, Kevin? The air echoed with low hissing, slithering its way into what remained of the man's ears and sliding languidly through his panicked thoughts. Like a swarm of ravenous maggots, Mortis allowed his necrotic powers to feast upon the doomed man's mind; hope, will, fight and flight... They all eroded under his touch just as readily as anything else. "Oh, but I do, Kevin. I know sssso much about you... Thingsss that you would not even think to know about yoursssself." The ghoul hissed, psychic talons toying with the minutes strands that remained of himself. "I know how you drugged thossse people, your victimsss. I know how you and your friend ferried them here, unconciousss." He rasped, even as the man's legs tried to connect with his body, only managing to grave the side of his skeletal hip. "I even know how you try to ignore the guilt that plaguess you, how you both have attempted to sssay the pay isss worth more then the weight of your actionsss. Sssss... How many nightsss have you laid awake, trying to convince yourssself while you knew what wasss going on inssside, jussst beyond that very door you and your friend leaned againssst? How true do you think that actually issss?

Mortis adjusted his grip upon the struggling man, watching his body slowly deteriorate before him and slip through his fingers as necrotic sludge. Then, he dragged him effortlessly to where he had left the remains of his fallen comrade, Danny. No more than a pile of bones and spidery strings of putrid flesh remained of his once imposing form, which laid within a black puddle of its own filth.

"Behold, Kevin. Your friend, purified, freed of hisss torment. Why bother with excusssesss, alibisss... When you could join him." The superfiend hissed, his words steadily worming their way into the dying man's mind. "Give in, Kevin. The only rewardsss you have sssown for yourssself by continuing to exissst, isss a path of guilt and sssorrow. To die isss to truly be free." The man need only look into himself to see reason in the undead's words. He was doing Kevin a favor, ridding him of his sinful existence... How hard was it for the desperate man to see that?

Alas, like most sinners were wont to, their baser instincts and emotions clouded their better judgement. Always they plotted and planned for the immediate and present, but never considered what lay further on in time.

"Allow me to cleanssse you of your sssinsss, Kevin." The ghoul soothed, yet his talons continued to grasp with their vice-like grip. Soon his pain would be over, soon he would be nothing but a pile of bones turning to dust in a puddle of rancid muck.

The crime was life, the sentence... Death.

Once this one was dealt with, he would turn his righteous attention towards the two squabbling next to the row of coolers where his brother stood, watching and waiting.

    Touch of Mortis (decay!):

--Mortis' hands are grotesquely decayed, with long yellowed claws curling from their tips. The flesh had greened and started to split apart long ago, tight upon the musculature and tendons beneath.

Along with being gristly to behold, Judge Mortis' claws are quite fearsome, decaying anything they touch, whether it be flesh, metal or any other perishable item or structure.

    Specifics: 3d/1c

AP Cost currently: 4AP per use
