    Ruckus on the Roof

Post by Kyoko Sakura on Sat Feb 20, 2016 1:30 am

    Time: 3:45 PM
    Date: February 19, 0006

Another day passing by, another Witch destroyed, and another Grief Seed collected. The rubber soles of Kyoko's boots skid lightly on the cement as she walked down a sidewalk. Far behind her was the Outer District, the area those Witches seemed to appear in most, and ahead of her loomed the Inn. As the young girl walked, she idly tossed something in her palm, the black thing bobbing up into the air and landing back into her palm only to be tossed upwards again. The red head hummed under her breath, looking much like a carefree teenager. For all anybody knew, she was simply a girl. Her hand grasped the black thing tightly, and she jogged, closing the distance to the Inn. With only a passing wave to whoever was at the desk, she made her way to the stairway.

As soon as she ascended a couple of the stairs at an even pace, Kyoko seemed to propel herself up the stairs. A boot kicked herself upwards, and the young woman seemed to jump five stairs at a time all the way to the top floor. Red hair, tied back in a ponytail, whipped behind her head as she made her way up. Anybody else in the stairway may feel a gust of wind and see a blur of a girl. She skid to a stop as she exited out onto the roof, apparently not winded at all. Kyoko gave the bell a glance, before turning her gaze to the rooftop gardens. The plants were rather beautiful, the people in charge took good care of this place. Her gaze shifted to her surroundings, admiring the skyscrapers close by and also in the distance. Down below, she could hear the hum of traffic. The place wasn't as great as it was at night, but she still liked how busy it looked up here. Buildings and architecture everywhere.

Alas, she didn't come up here just to admire the city. The girl turned her gaze downwards and held out her right hand, gazing down at the black circle in her hand. Her left hand came up, nestled between her fingers a similar looking object. Red, resembling an egg, yet with a black murkiness lurking within. Her hands unfurled, no longer curling around them securely. Palms up, she brought her hands close to each other. Closer and closer her hands came, until the Grief Seed touched the red glass of her Soul Gem. As soon as there was contact, the black murkiness was pulled out of her Soul Gem and absorbed into the Grief Seed. The red of the Soul Gem was now vibrant, like a glistening ruby. Kyoko moved her hand, as if pocketing the gem in her jacket pocket as she eyed the Grief Seed. It was a shame Kyubey wasn't here, if only because the rat could eat these things. Only a good use or two of these, or else they'd hatch into a witch all over again. Kyoko Sakura sighed, fingers curling around the Grief Seed as she turned back to a building across the street from the Inn. Temptation to leap from roof to roof tugged at her, but she decided to remain on the roof.

Late winter was always a nice time of year. There was still plenty of nice cold weather things to see and enjoy, and there was the knowledge that spring was right around the corner, which brought even more seasonal delights along with that season change. Maybe this year she could see about finding some sakura blossoms to view outright, and not just the beautiful ones in her mother’s lab. Either way, it was a nice thought, and it was yet another that had a certain former space pirate smiling to herself as she flew through the city.

Ryoko was capable of plenty of teleports, both long and short range, but flying was still a blast, and when she was in the mood for a leisurely flight, she knew very well that she could find plenty of things to entertain herself. Today had been a near collision way higher up in the air that she had got to observe from afar… that had given her a good, recurring laugh for a good while, and now, she saw herself enjoying whizzing through parts of the city.

As she came up on the Residential District, Ryoko found herself grinning a bit as she approached the Stock Pot Inn. She did have a few friends there, but one in particular that came to her mind was likely still at work at the bakery. Oh-ho, now that was another stop she could possibly make… licking her lips and glancing ahead though, Ryoko blinked as she saw a less familiar face atop the roof of the familiar building. Huh… wonder who that could be…

Curious and feeling slightest bit more playful, Ryoko swooped around, phased out, and then teleported so that she was floating right beside the young woman. Following her gaze, she smiled as she simply stated, “Hey. You see somethin’ interesting over there?”

“Hey. You see somethin’ interesting over there?”

Kyoko had just barely picked up on a new presence, that someone else had joined her up on the roof, when whoever it was suddenly spoke up. Candy apple eyes tore away from the metal sheets and glass windows as she turned to stare at the speaker. Orbs scanning the woman briefly, the hand holding the Grief Seed moved to hide it behind her back, other hand firmly in her pocket for the moment. With a wild mane of grey hair, golden eyes to rival Mami's, tanned skin and long ears, the woman already looked pretty interesting. The odd way she seemed to float on the air only added to the strangeness. Not to mention, she didn't seem to have climbed up here or anything...

Arching an eyebrow, Kyoko shrugged loosely beneath her light blue hoodie. "Not really. I was just enjoying the view up here." Still handling her soul gem in her pocket, a bit of finger work was all it took to press the gem to her ring, the delicate thing disappearing within the ring. A shame the Grief Seed could not be hidden away so easily. Now that the gem was hidden away, she pulled her hand out and pointed an index finger in the woman's direction. "Besides, nothing could be more interesting than a flying woman! How're you doing that, anyway?" The woman didn't read like she was a magical girl, so it couldn't be that. No soul gems or ring that she could see either. Eyes squinting in an almost suspicious manner, the teenager shifted her weight onto one hip as she waited for an answer.

Ryoko caught the girl’s gaze, subtly looking her over as well as the two took their chance to size each other up. With her smile growing the slightest bit at the girl’s shrug and response, the former space pirate folded her arms, nodded, and glanced off in that same direction for a moment. “Yeah, it’s a pretty nice one. This building might not be the tallest in the city, but it’s definitely got some nice views. I especially like the way you can see straight through that cut of buildings to the suburbs and the wilderness beyond that.” The residential district was set up with excellent zoning, and good views of the city had come along as part of that.

Turning back to the girl just in time to see that she herself was now being pointed at, Ryoko’s slight smile shifted into a full-on grin. “What, this? It’s just a natural ability.” One of the many that came along with being the daughter of a goddess, after all. “I just focus on floating, or flying like I was before I landed here, and bam. That’s all there is to it.” At least she was more interested than anything else! Granted, previous startled reactions that Ryoko had garnered were always amusing… even if they were only intentional part of the time. This time though, that was not the case, and she was more in the mood to simply converse and visit.

As Ryoko stared off into the distance, admiring the view, the redhead's eyes were now completely focused on the strange woman. Her pose was rather casual, nonchalant. The spiky haired lady was also still smiling, and it seemed to communicate to Kyoko that whatever her purpose was, this woman wasn't a threat. Still squinting, her suspicion lessened as her gaze shifted to the city's landscape. "Tall buildings are useful for standing on them and feeling tall and powerful, but not so good for sight-seeing. Stuff usually winds up looking like ants and little toy buildings. I like lower buildings like this one." Arms folding across her own chest, Kyoko nodded as if to reaffirm her own point of view. She had not noticed the particular view that Ryoko had pointed out though. Shifting to the side and craning her head, she tried to follow the other woman's line of sight. Sure enough, there it was; colorful boxes with modest lawns, all arranged in a particular row and pattern. Living in a city, Kyoko had never really been in a suburb like that before. It certainly seemed...green. Lots of room to run around. Beyond that of course, and expanding towards the horizon, was a wilderness that was still mostly mystery to the magical girl.

If the map of this world was accurate, there lay a thick forest, mountain ranges, a freezing tundra and even a desert out there. Born and bred in the city, it was all the sort of thing she'd see only in pictures. Maybe one day...when she was sure a witch wouldn't hatch in her absence. Turning back to the other woman, a slim eyebrow rose. "Natural, huh?" Looking her up and down again, the teenager shrugged lightly. "Guess that means you're not human. At least, no human I've ever known." Magical girls weren't always so bound to gravity either, though to float about like this woman... Kyoko had never seen it used so casually. Leaning away from the hovering woman, Kyoko remained guarded and closed off. Such a mystery like this woman and her powers could lead somewhere unpleasant. "So what, and who, are you?" As friendly as Ryoko seemed, that could always be a trick! Knowing a bit more about this woman would put the magical girl at ease.

Ryoko could not help but grin and chuff pleasantly at the girl’s assessment, soon nodding in full agreement. “True enough. I guess it really depends on what you’re looking for… a big panorama or a more detailed view. I like the way you think!” Granted, Ryoko was able to feel pretty tall and even more than that powerful no matter which building she stood on, but all the same, she did like to be able to get a better, closer view instead of just a simple scan of the entire area. Knowing what you were looking for was key in that, and she definitely liked the way that her fellow landscape-gazer had put it. Too many people got caught up in taller vantage points being better, but that was not always the case.

She was pleased that the younger girl seemed to appreciate the particular view she had noted, and at her next question, she simply gave a slight nod. At the remark that she wasn’t human, it was all the former space pirate could do not to scoff. Sure, sure guessed she passed for one… but humanoid appearance was about as far as that really went. “You’d be correct,” said Ryoko, soon touching down on the rooftop, keeping her feet flat but still holding her casual posture. “As for what I am, I guess the easy answer would be that I’m an alien… basically a half-goddess hybrid. As for who, I’m Ryoko. And you might be?”

Whilst Ryoko could be a very playful sort, she was not about to trick anyone she had no prior connection or dealings with. There were plenty of people across her history both in her own world and this one that deserved her chances for vindication, but someone she had never met, and more than that, someone that had her own instincts telling her she was pretty cool? Not a chance.

Panorama? The teenager raised a slim eyebrow and pursed her lips. It was a big word, almost foreign to her, but Kyoko could put two and two together. Shrugging lightly, she tilted her head into the woman's direction. "Thanks." The other's sudden appearance had the magical girl a bit guarded, especially with what she had almost teleported in on. Even if being a magical girl didn't need to be a secret, the action of cleaning her soul gem felt a bit...private. Arms were crossed snugly over her chest, shoulders hiked up as candy apple red eyes kept a close eye on the strange lady. Eventually the floating woman settled herself upon the roof, standing like a normal human even though her body language was still casual and friendly. A very open woman, and it only seemed to make her draw herself in a bit more. Kyoko shifted her body in the opposite direction from her.

A hybrid, was it? Between an alien and a goddess. Kyoko's eyebrows drew together, puzzled. "Well that's new." At least, new to the redhead. An alien and a goddess, and somehow it made this woman? She squinted an eye at the other. "So why do you look so humanoid? Is that your real appearance?" Perhaps it was a disguise to fit in better. The name was Ryoko, and the edges of her lips quirked. "Heh, I'm Kyoko. Funny that our names are different only by a letter." Even stranger still that a hybrid like Ryoko would have a Japanese name. Leaning her weight on one hip, the teenage seemed to relax. "Did you know that, in Japanese, your name means 'Dragon'?" Perhaps quite fitting for a Goddess hybrid.

Ryoko did not have nearly the same vocabulary that her mother did, but she did know a few longer words. Most of them she had picked up from practical application, and in the case of this one, it was one that she’d since overheard for a wide view that someone could take a picture of, or if they felt like it, paint. Still, she smiled at the girl’s thanks. Although she’d been up on the roof when she’d found her, she still appeared to have her guard up for some reason… the former space pirate was not sure if it was something she had somehow interrupted (which didn’t make sense to her since it had looked like the girl was just standing there), or if the way she had dropped in was still messing with her. Well, that could happen… if that was the case, Ryoko made sure to keep her posture and tone relaxed. After all, there was no need to scare her!

Chuffing a bit in amusement at the girl’s remark about just what she was being new, Ryoko soon found one of her brows twitching at what she said next. “Of course this is my real appearance! Come on, the goddess herself looks human at least… it’s a basic, useful shape!” Surely it had to be! That had to be at least part of why the chousin, the Juraians, and even humans all looked similar!

As soon as her lips quirked though, Ryoko’s expression relaxed a fraction, just before she grinned at the introduction. “Funny indeed. Nice to meet you!” Wow. What were the chances of that? Sure, the inflections were a little different, but they were still super similar! At what Kyoto said next though, Ryoko hummed in thought for a bit. “Heeeeh… I’ve heard that, but not with the way mine’s written! My kanji variation is actually Demon Caller.” Not that all demons were bad, of course!

Little by little, Kyoko was beginning to relax. The patient calmness of this woman was beating down on her defenses, leading her to feel as though Ryoko was a good, if very friendly person. It was odd to the girl, that there was a 'Goddess', and even odder that she had a child with an alien somehow. But, if God could make a baby with a human woman... Though it still seemed odd to her that the offspring of an alien and a Goddess could look so...human! Ryoko definitely didn't seem too amused by Kyoko's own amazement. The young girl let out her own snort. "But aren't most aliens kinda...you know, weird looking? Scales, fur, feathers, and everything in-between!" Oddly human Goddess aside, surely that had to influence something! Maybe the ears were from the alien father? She did have to offer a little shrug, as if admitting that the other had a point. "Though I guess your mom being a Goddess explains your floating powers... You got anymore?" The magical girl asked with genuine curiosity.

Her head inclined gently, a little smirk growing across her face. "Yeah, same here." Even if their meeting was a little...unorthodox. By now, the magical girl no longer seemed wary or suspicious at all of the other woman. Ryoko went on to surprise the teenager by talking about kanji! "You know kanji?" She exclaimed, with raised eyebrows. As for the name itself? The teenager cocked her head to the side, as if trying to imagine the kanji that would mean 'Demon Caller'. "Is that so? There a reason your kanji means something so specific?" Despite the rather nosy nature of her question, the easygoing smile on her face showed that Kyoko was just interested in the topic. "It's a pretty badass name after all. You a badass to go with it?"

    Re: Ruckus on the Roof

Post by Space Pirate Ryoko on Tue Jan 31, 2017 12:55 am

Ryoko was a wild and exuberant woman, but when she was relaxed, she could be surprisingly calm. After all, if you were relaxed and enjoying that state, what was there not to be calm about? As it was though, she could start to tell just the slightest bit that Kyoko was beginning to relax a little more herself. That was certainly nice to see! … even if she was skeptical about appearances.

Shrugging a bit at Kyoko’s followup question and possibility, Ryoko stated, “Eh, that depends on the one. I mean, there are other humanoid aliens out there, there are some that look like they make sense no matter how different they are, and of course there are the ones that look like they came out of some inter dimensional dreamworld… or something. I guess… well, if you think about how different animals are on Earth alone, then there’s that range in space too. And of course you’ve got some that are more similar on the outside than they might actually be! So that’s probably why I look human even if I’m only humanoid.” If Washu was there, tenrecs would have undoubtedly been a wonderful example.

Grinning a bit as Kyoko asked her about her floating, Ryoko soon chuckled a bit before noting, “Oh yeah, like you wouldn’t believe! I can teleport, shoot energy balls, make energy beams… even phase through stuff.” And that was just the very tip of the iceberg of the former space pirate’s abilities. She felt that those were all safe enough to share considering the nature of her current companion thus far, and and there was plenty, PLENTY more where all of those came from. So, just in case if anything did go awry, it wasn’t like she’d just given away everything. Hell, this was only about as much as giving away her name. “How about you? C’mon, I know some humans are way more powerful than they look!” A certain Tenchi being the ultimate example of that, after all…

Nodding to Kyoko’s agreement, Ryoko soon nodded again at her question regarding kanji. She didn’t necessarily know all 2000-some, but she did know more than enough to read what she needed to! As far as the origin of her name went… “Well… let’s just say that it might tie in to some of my other abilities, so to speak… and it was a name my mother felt suited me.” As far as badassery went, the former space pirate could only agree. “I’d like to think so… and that I am. Badass and proud of it.” Perhaps it took a fellow badass to know one so easily!

As Ryoko went on to describe how aliens were, Kyoko could only begrudgingly agree. It wasn't like the teenager was very experienced when it came to alien life forms. Media had just...oversold the idea of what aliens were like. The extraterrestrial lifeforms that Ryoko spoke of ran the full gamut of being humanoid to things from a strange dreamworld. Shrugging softly, the redhead shifted her weight onto one hip. "Alright, you've got a point. Earth has so much variety of its own, when you put that together with a lot of other planets...guess that could make anything." Even a woman with pointy ears. Frankly, she had almost expected that the woman was a shapeshifter using her powers to just appear human.

Ticking off the powers Ryoko had, Kyoko's red eyes grew bit by bit. "Damn!" She cursed softly, surprised by the amount of powers she held. Teleporting and phasing through objects in particular had her attention! Eventually her face melted to a more stoic and standoffish expression. "Yeah, that's all pretty cool. I guess." She huffed, kicking the tip of her boot into the surface of the roof. Not even the woman's question about Kyoko's own abilities seemed to lighten her mood, eliciting a squint before answering. Of course, it was pretty common in this place that some people seemed to sense her abilities by being around her. The redhead easily chalked the question up to that. It wasn't as if her nature was a real secret. "Well I'm stronger and faster than a normal human. I can use magic to summon a lance, or create a barrier. Not exactly the sort of things you can do." Even her own powers seemed a little less in the light of Ryoko's own. Still, the teenager began to smirk as she regarded the other female. "But I'm also able to keep fighting no matter how much I get hurt!" She helpfully left out what it would take to actually kill her magical girl body. That was just the smart thing to do.

Aha, so the specific kanji used for Ryoko's name was important! Grinning slightly, the teenager chuckled to herself softly. "So, what, do you fight demons? Or are you some sorta demon beacon?" 'Demon caller' was extremely specific, especially compared to 'dragon'. "So your mom's a Goddess...what's her name? And is she as badass as you are?"

Ryoko simply grinned when Kyoto admitted she had a point, and she nodded along with the younger girl’s assessment. Intergalactic lifeforms were not something everyone had seen, and the former space pirate had long since learned that. Still, she did not have too different a form from humans and Juraians, so she was able to fully turn that to her advantage in just about any world.

At Kyoko’s soft albeit fully effective curse in response to her short list of some of her powers made the former space pirate grin again, in pride, amusement, and a touch of cheekiness. She certainly appreciated the reaction, although she did blink a bit at the following reaction, one that didn’t seem to carry quite the same tone. Still, at least the girl was able to pull herself together enough to answer, her own list of abilities steadily drawing a new grin from Ryoko’s lips, especially at the mentions of the lance and barrier. “Niiiiiice….” Ryoko drawled, still finding the noted powers to be neat in their own right. As far as the ability to keep fighting no matter what injuries she sustained went, color the former space pirate impressed, even if she found such an ability to have to have a downside. “Not bad, not bad… strength and speed are always great boosts, and seriously? A lance? That’s pretty cool. Barriers are always helpful, and hopefully they help keep you from having to rely too much on that ability to keep going!” Willpower was one thing, but pushing past injuries could be risky in many situations. Even with as nigh invincible as she was, Ryoko understood that aspect far too well.

Unable to suppress a good-natured chuckle of her own at Kyoko’s musing about her name, Ryoko soon stated, “If any try to fight me, I’ll readily fight them. For me though… it’s more in the way that I can summon and control some spirits. I tend to focus more on my own powers for things, but suffice to say, having that can be helpful.” As far as the questions about her mother went, Ryoko smirked a bit before adding, “Her name is Washu. And yeah, she can be.” They didn’t always see eye to eye, but deep down, and more and more over the years, the former space pirate definitely loved and respected her mother.

Ryoko's reaction felt much like looking into a mirror, that prideful cheekiness was familiar. It was the same look Kyoko herself would have if the situation was reversed! For now, the teenager was a tiny bit jealous of all of the powers this woman seemed to have. Her mood was improved by the other's reaction however, smirk deepening. Bit by bit she was letting her guard down. "Thanks! It's a pretty big lance too." She bragged for a moment, grinning wide enough to show off her pointed fangs. "I definitely rely more on my lance than the barriers, but they have their use. Sometimes as a shield, sometimes to keep certain people out of a fight." The magically conjured barrier made for a great fence, even though it could only sustain so much damage. A clenched hand pounded on her own thin chest, standing tall and proud. "I haven't found a single ass here I can't kick!" The redhead boasted, talking up her abilities so that the other woman would not think her powers to be weak and feeble.

Such eagerness to kick ass only scored the other woman points in Kyoko's book, the grin on her face spoke the magical girl's approval more than any word could. As for Ryoko's actual powers? "Summoning spirits?" An eyebrow raised, curious. Well there was a skill that seemed rather rare to her ears. "Maybe one day, you can give me a demonstration. That sounds like it'd be a hell of a thing to see!" Quite fun indeed! The teenager's curiosity only heightened when the older woman mentioned her mother's name. "Washu?" Well, between that and Ryoko...their names were very Japanese in origin. "Are you guys from Japan or something? ...Somehow, since you're a half-goddess and all?"

Ryoko’s grin grew slightly at the mention of the size of the lance that Kyoko could summon and use, nodding in full understanding as she explained how she tended to use her weapon far more than she did her barriers. “Yeah, that makes perfect sense. I can make my own barriers and know how to use them, but like you, I am WAY more of an offensive fighter.” Defense and taking on a defensive strategy definitely had their places, but the former space pirate always preferred to take the direct approach and take care of things herself. That fighting style made her own skills in defense and stealth even more surprising, and thus even more effective whenever she chose to use them!

Although Ryoko had not once felt that her new companion’s abilities were weak and feeble, she certainly appreciated her own prideful boast here! Tilting her head ever so slightly to the side as her grin remained firmly place for the time being, Ryoko added, “Ha-ha, that makes two of us! I’m glad to have met such a fellow ass-kicker!” And really, she was! She had had a feeling about this girl when she had first seen her, and getting to talk with her? Those sharp instincts of hers had been spot on!

Nodding at Kyoko’s question about summoning spirits, Ryoko simply folded her arms at the prospect of a future demonstration. “Maybe I could! That sounds like just one drop in a future power demonstration and practice session that the two of us could have. After all… what better way to show off our own ass-kicking abilities and keep them sharp so that we can kick ass together if need be?” Practice sessions like that were always fun, especially with someone that enjoyed using their powers!

At Kyoko’s question regarding where she and Washu were from, Ryoko just chuckled slightly. “Not quite… it’s trickier to say where I’m from, although deep outer space would be one way to answer that. No, we’re not from Japan… although I have spent most of my time there! I was actually there before I was whisked away here! Are you from there, though?” She had a strong feeling she already knew the answer to this, but even with as headstrong as she was, Ryoko was ready to turn that point into another aspect o their conversation instead of anything relevant to an assumption.

"You can make barriers too?" The teenager asked, no small amount of interest on her face. Kyoko doubted that Ryoko's creations bore anything more than a passing resemblance to her own barrier but...she couldn't deny being a little curious. It wasn't a common ability! Weight shifting onto one hip, the magical girl tilted her head to the side. "What kind of weapon do you use?" Although the redhead herself possessed magic that was the cause of her barriers and even allowed her to summon her lance, this woman's powers seemed to be different. She was born with it, and it wasn't quite 'magic'. Right...? It was kinda hard to tell when Goddess powers were in the mix.

"Maybe one day, we can kick some ass together!" Who knows? Perhaps someday, they could get involved a spar of some kind, or just kick some jerky butt. Kyoko was always ready and willing to kick ass but nobody here had earned her ire enough to warrant an asskicking. It was a little disappointing! Ryoko seemed open to demonstrating her strange powers for her, and expressed a desire to see the redhead's skills as well! The teen flashed a grin at the other woman, always glad to show off! "Cool! I wanna see what kind of powers come from a half-Goddess hybrid!" What if she could part the red sea, or turn water into wine? The thought almost made her laugh, though the redhead allowed an amused smirk to stretch across her face.

So Ryoko's home was tricky to answer. Outer space? So was this lady half Goddess and half alien? The more she heard, the more Kyoko was pretty confused. Although she wasn't from Japan, Ryoko did spend time there! Probably get there in an alien spaceship. Nodding her head eagerly, Kyoko chuckled before speaking up. "Yeah, I'm from Japan! Born and raised there, I lived in Kazamino before I moved to Mitakihara. That's where I was before coming here." Head cocking to the side, her ponytail following the motion of her head, Kyoko's eyes narrowed questioningly. "Are you an alien?"
