    Learning New Skills

Saturday. A weekend, and a day that Ariana had off. Time seemed to keep slipping through her fingertips, and as much as she wanted to spend this day with somebody, she knew it'd be better served in the library. For some time now, the young woman had been pondering an idea... Though she could turn into a wolf, that power could be rather inconvenient at times. It tore apart her clothes, leaving her almost naked when she was normal again. Alone, this was bearable. But with others... Ariana had to find a new way to fight, only turning into a wolf if she really had to. Her adventure to the jungles had seen her using a knife to fight, but Ariana knew she needed more. Something more versatile, better suited for long distances. Her mind went to the stories she used to read as a young girl. Archers with arrows that whizzed through the air to strike targets near and far. Movies that showcased the same thing, if in a more fanciful and exaggerated fashion... All the same, every thwip of an arrow hitting its mark, zipping through projectiles and slicing through adversaries from impossible distances, it amazed her. It always snagged her imagination, and as a young girl, Ariana would pretend to fight imaginary enemies.

One time in school, they had even learned how to use a bow and arrow! Of course, the lessons had only lasted almost a month, and it was only for an hour. Bows and arrows had to be shared, so you usually only got a few minutes to hit the target before switching. It had been difficult, the bow was rather taut, but perhaps with practice... Here in the Breach, all she had was time. Might as well put it to use! Ariana stepped inside the library, clothed in her usual attire with the addition of a simple black hoodie jacket. She smiled lightly at a librarian and waved a hand, ducking out of sight before an offer of help could be given. She'd prefer to do it on her own. The building had a few diligent scholars, people who were nose deep in their books or computer screens. The young woman eyed them curiously for a moment. Whatever could they be studying...? Shrugging to herself, she moved on and slid into a computer chair.

The wood creaked beneath her, and Ariana blinked at the computer as she gathered her wits about her. It had been a while since she'd been in a library, or on a computer... Her fingertips ghosted over the keyboard, getting a good feel for it before she tapped an index finger down upon the space bar. The blackened screen of the computer flickered to life, showcasing a homepage that was waiting for her to search their databases. Grasping the mouse, she moved the cursor to the search bar. Clicking with a light tap of her fingers, she began to type...

    Tappa tappa tick tack...

Ariana poured herself into the computer, using the library's search engine to find all books related to archery. As soon as she had managed to find some books relating to the subject though... She had to refine her search. Fingers clacked along the keys, sorting through fiction and nonfiction. A few fictional books that looked interesting were kept in mind for later. Next, she began to sort through material to find books that were related only to Earth. Not to be...ethnocentric, of course! Ariana was sure that these Elvish books on archery were great reads... But she preferred to stick with a culture she already knew about. How embarrassing would it be to try and adopt an Elvish archery style, only to run into an Elf and learn that she was doing an awful job?

Once she'd narrowed her search, the brunette was still surprised to find that there were quite a few books. Assorted guides, books for beginners, precision archery, the life and teachings of archery, legends in archery... Woof. There was a lot of studying ahead for her. That was just fine, perhaps she could catch up on all of the studying she had missed over the years. Using a sticky pad and pencil stationed next to the computer, Ariana scribbled down the locations for the books that she decided she would look up first. On the back, she scribbled in the titles and locations of books to look at in the future. With a light huff of a sigh, the young woman rose from the chair and left the computer behind. It was time to search the book rows.

With the numbers provided, it didn't take too long to find her books. They were easily located and plucked from their snug spot on the shelves, though one needed the assistance of a ladder to reach. This library was much larger than the ones she had ever been to in her life. Once all three books had been found, one larger and thinner than the other two, more stocky books, Ariana held them all close to her chest as she began to search for any available tables. One was taken by a little study group, another by a circle of friends who seemed to be sharing mangas and comics. Ariana offered them an awkward smile upon accidentally catching one's line of sight and quickly ducked away behind another row of shelves. Eventually, she decided to follow the stairs up to the top floor of the library, and she found it rather sparse of people.

"Oh, finally..." Ariana sighed, shoulders sagging as her entire body seemed to find relief. It wasn't that Ariana hated people, of course... It was just that strangers were a little...intimidating. When she was unfamiliar with people, her first instinct was to shy away from them. It had always been a part of her, ever since she was a small girl. Of course, turning into a werewolf didn't exactly help. All in all, it was just better for them all if she kept her distance. Ariana felt comfortable, no strangers got gobbled up, win-win! The bespectacled young girl gently edged herself down onto the plush cushioning of the chair. Taking a moment to settle into it, she relaxed against the backrest and laid the books to rest on a table beside the chair. Grabbing the first book off of the pile, the thinnest of the bunch, she laid it to rest across her lap and began to read.
