    Lunch At The Inn

Post by Ariana Lee on Tue Nov 17, 2015 11:52 pm

    Time: 11:35 AM
    Date: November 17, 0006

The slender young woman poked her head out, peeking between her door and the door frame. Her nose was poked out, and Ariana inhaled through her nostrils. Sniff sniff... Even from the third floor, she could smell the food down on the first floor. It was lunchtime! Her stomach growled, and Ariana disappeared from the door frame. She backed up, through the little hallway of her room to reach the end table to the right. A cardkey was snatched up between her fingers, and she jammed the thing into the front pocket of her jeans. There...back to the door frame and she stepped through it, door shutting behind her.

Today was a day where she didn't work, which meant she'd likely spend the day just sitting around the Inn. Lightly adjusting her glasses, the black haired woman walked down the main hallway and stepped into the elevator, pressing the button for the first floor. Ariana was the only person in the elevator, she might be one of the first people to make her way downstairs for lunch. Usually she would have went later, but Ariana had overslept for breakfast. That meant that lunch was a must above everything else. Her hair had been brushed, teeth scrubbed, and pajamas replaced by a pair of jeans, a black tank top and sneakers. The elevator dinged, announcing her arrival onto the first floor and Ariana stepped off. The moment she did, the encompassing smell of lunch seemed to rush her all at once. The dining area was merely across the way from the elevator, but the young woman still raised her nose to the sky and let her sense of smell guide her into the area.

Entering the room, she went to the beginning of the buffet line and grabbed up a plate, licking her lips in anticipation. She walked down the way, eyeing the food choices she had for today. A couple of slices of pizza were snatched up, topped with ham, bacon, pepperoni and sausage. The leg of a Rotisserie style chicken joined her plate, plump white meat smoking. Two hearty scoops weight her plate down, one scoop of mac and cheese, another of mashed potatoes. Content for now, Ariana used both hands to keep the plate balanced. Be a shame to spill this on the ground! Keeping her grip solid and treating the plate as if it were fragile glass, she maneuvered to a chair at an empty table and set the plate down. Returning to the buffet area to grab a spoon, a napkin, and a glass of water, Ariana returned to her chair and sat down. She grabbed the pizza first, giving the topping an appraising smell before sh began to chow down, munching softly. Truthfully, she could have fixed something to eat...but eating downstairs meant there was a chance she could see people she knew, and perhaps catch up! Or maybe even meet someone new...?

Soon, sooner than Ariana had liked, her plate had been rendered empty. Licked clean and devoid of the smallest of scraps, Ariana had made eaten everything. She had even gone back for seconds. Satisfied, the young woman settled into the back of her chair and rubbed her stomach lightly. Her other hand reached for a napkin and wiped her face clean before she took one more swig of her water. As great as her lunch had been, it had also been...rather empty. Ariana had been hoping to be joined by someone; anyone. She had even been hoping to perhaps see a certain cyborg...

Any company at all would have been fine, but everybody who had entered the dining area either took their food back to their room, or sat down with people they were already acquainted. A voice in the back of her mind urged her, 'Go talk to them. Introduce yourself. Say hi! Start a conversation' but every single option felt impossible. It sent a deep shiver down her spine, anxiety cropped up as she stared down at the table to avoid eye contact. What if they saw her looking? What if they thought she was spying on them, or being a creep? What if, what if... It dawned on Ariana quickly that she didn't know anybody here. All of these people were strangers, and suddenly she felt like an intruder. Invader. She should have taken her plate back to her room, why did she even sit here?! The thought seemed to light a fire under her, as the bespectacled young woman snatched up her plate and glass. Avoiding all eye contact all together, she hastened herself to deposit the dirty dishes in the proper spot. Once the dishes had left her hands, she immediately left the room and marched for the stairs this time, gaze still on the ground.

As she reached the second floor, her hand began to dig her card out from her front pocket. Stupid, stupid, stupid idea... How much of a shutin had she become that she didn't recognize the majority of the people here? Was Skyler even here still? Was Livewire? Did she know anybody at all?! The card was jammed into her door, and Ariana only relaxed once she was in her room again. Comfortable, familiar... It didn't feel like eyes were on her back anymore. Almost robotically, her legs lead her to the couch where she plopped down heavily, staring forward at the television screen. Well...might as well see what's on. Her hand reached for the remote and she switched the appliance on, hoping whatever might be on could help calm herself down. With all of the things Ariana had seen in her life, 'people' and 'social interactions' were very high up there as the scariest things she had ever faced. Even more frightening than death.
