    Home for the Homeless

    Date: June 16th

The Stock Pot Inn. He had only arrived in this new realm a few days ago but Loukios had heard nothing but positive remarks about this establishment. The mute man stood outside of the building with both hands on his hips. He liked the architecture of the building. It was plain yet unique. Something that most immortals on Earth didn’t understand, sometimes the best things are simple. They most likely looked for complicated and hard to see solution to any problem while Loukios favored the simple routes.

Loukios couldn’t help but like the place more as he walked him. The interior design and atmosphere was so homely and warm, Loukios could help but sigh with relief. He wasn’t foreign to traveling to different realms but this time, it affected him a bit. When traveling to Shadow Realms, Loukios could always return to Earth in case he forgot something or just wanted leave. He had never planned on leaving Earth for good. He could’ve entered a Shadow Realm centuries ago and never return to Earth, but he loved Earth too much. It was simple and unique. But now he had to live in a new world with no return home. There was no way back now.

Walking up to the counter, Loukios checked to see if there was anyone around. “It is around lunch time, maybe some of the staff were out to lunch,” he thought. He rung the bell once and began writing on his note pad.

As noon rolled around, Link and Link were both back in the innkeeper's office working on various tasks. Summer was effectively in the air, and although the two boys had already had a good number of chances to get out and enjoy the beach with their friends, they were still more than happy to take care of each day's work as needed. They liked their posts as innkeeper and assistant innkeeper, and that coupled with their excellent coworkers certainly helped them enjoy each day no matter what they wound up having to tackle. As it was, the Hero of Winds was double checking the current and upcoming staff schedules whilst the Hero of Time was sorting some of their files for the current week, both paper and digital.

Neither of the two were quite set for lunch just yet, but they were looking rather forward to it. Once Tetra got back from her latest delivery, the five of them were set to enjoy a veritable feast of freshly grilled burgers. Even with that delicious meal on the horizon, that did not stop them from savoring a couple of cookies that Rosa had dropped by the office for them. It was something of a sweet appetizer so to speak, and Link had just polished off his own cookie when his ears perked up at catching the sound of the bell at the front desk. "Hm?"

"Sounds like we've got a visitor," chimed Tatl, inwardly wondering as to just who it might be. A furtive glance through the foggy pane on the door gave the Terminian fairy a pretty good feeling that this was a prospective new tenant, so she was quick to add, "At least they had the courtesy to come by before lunch." Granted, the inn staff was more than set to handle anything regardless of the time of day, but it was nice whenever people adhered to their primary hours.

"Ha-ha, yeah," chuckled Link, just before glancing to his older nametwin. At catching both the boy's expression and seeing just where he was in the schedules, Link smiled before stating, "I can go help them, Link. I'm at a pretty good stopping point." With the confirmation from his best friend, Link hopped up from his chair and gave him a Tri-Five before moving through the office door.

"Hi there," greeted Link, nodding to the young man as he himself moved to his spot just behind the desk. "Welcome to the Stock Pot Inn. Can I help you?"

This place was chock full strange and unique people. The person behind the desk looked like wasn’t any older than ten years old. “Maybe there are no age restricting work laws here,” Loukios pondered. A mischievous grin spread across his face as he wrote something down. Age laws that prevented someone from working a safe job always confused the immortal. He believed if a kid wanted to work should be able to work. It built character and was an excellent way to prepare for adulthood.

The Weaver couldn’t help but goof around a little as he pushed his notepad to the youngster. He made it look like he was handing some top secret off document as he leaned against the counter and pursed his lips for a Blue Steel look.

“Hello. I am Webster, Loukios Webster. I have heard outstanding reviews about your Inn and wondering what I have to do to procure a room here to live in.”

Over three thousand years old and Loukios still acted like a child from time to time.

Although Link was 12 years old now, he had been very used to doing a wide variety of work and tasks that many in this world might not have expected of a kid. He had set out on his first quest when he was 10, and between that, his second quest, and everything he had encountered in his time on the Breach, he did feel he was capable of tackling just about anything he put his mind to. He might have still been young, but in the world he came from, he was of the age where boys and girls started to be seen with even more respect and ability. They were not quite viewed as adults of course, but the added votes of confidence from his friends in both worlds certainly helped.

Link blinked when the man suddenly grinned mischievously, just before he raised a dubious eyebrow at the way he pushed the notepad he'd been writing in a moment ago forward. As soon as the notebook was in his hands, the man leaned against the front desk – which was not necessarily unheard of given some tenants' body language – before making a face. The leaning forward made enough sense… this strange, duck-like expression did not.

Still eyeing the possible new tenant a bit skeptically, Link opened up the notepad and quickly read over what he'd written, effectively confirming his thought that this man was looking for a place to stay. With a nod to himself, the Hero of Time closed the notebook, slid it back to Loukios, and stated, "I'm glad you've heard good things! As for getting a room, the only thing you really have to do is fill out a short form."

Pulling out a piece of paper from one of the folders behind the desk and dating it, Link added, "We have four floors here; do you have a preference for one?"

“Wow. It’s really that simple? Just filling out a single form. This was a breeze compared to all paperwork I would have to fill out back on Earth.” Loukios was liking this place more and more each day. Everything seemed so simple and straightforward. Best of all, he could actually be himself. No more posing as Lucas Spindler or Louis Araignée. He could use his real name and be himself. No more lying and trying to hide who he was. He could practice his craft in public, if he wanted to.

The silly man took back his notepad and wrote another line of text under the previous statement. As he wrote, Loukios weighed the pros and cons of being on each floor. The ground level offered the easiest walkway; no climbing stairs at the end of the day or in the morning, but the other floors would probably offer a better view. “Surely this place might have an elevator,” he wondered. Most buildings back on Earth that were higher than three stories usually had an elevator. But he was perfectly capable of climbing stairs. Then there was the extra exercise he would get from climbing the stairs. “Nothing wrong with a little climb.”

“I would like a room on the top floor, if it isn’t too much to ask for.”

Link waited patiently as Loukios wrote his next bit of text in his notebook, set to help him out with whatever floor preference he might have. Whilst each of the floors had a fairly even distribution of tenants, new arrivals typically seemed to prefer either the top or ground floors. Both made perfect sense and were good choices, but Link was just happy that all four floors were quite nice here. The combination of stairs and an elevator made them even more accessible, and Link himself appreciated being able to use both to reach his own room on the fourth floor.

At seeing Loukios' latest displayed text, Link nodded before glancing to both his own chart of rooms as well as the drawer of card keys. Quickly writing down the room he had in mind on the form, Link fished out its respective card key, just before placing the form on the counter in front of their newest tenant.

"Of course it's not. We've got rooms available up there right now," explained Link, just before motioning to the piece of paper he had set in front of Loukios. "Just print and sign your name, and you'll be set."

It was definitely easier than starting a new life back on Earth. Loukios couldn’t help but smile as he wrote his name in both print and in cursive. He made sure to sign as Loukios Webster, just so there wouldn’t be any kind of confusion. Finishing the required task, Loukios quickly slid the form back over to the nice innkeeper. Respectfully taking the key to his room, Loukios wrote another note, tore it out of his notebook, and left it for the wonderful staff member.

Thank you for all your help. I hope you have a pleasant rest of your day.

With that, Loukios left to climb up to his room. He had a slight bounce in his step from excitement and joy over his new home. He hadn’t thought about if he would live in the Inn permanently or once he find a job, move into a house of his own. For now, Loukios was contempt with his home at the Inn. Why worry or plan for tomorrow when you can enjoy today.

After Loukios moved to write and sign his name on the form, Link soon nodded as the form was slid back to him. Checking to see that everything was in order, he glanced up to the man with a smile, handing him his card key as he stated, "All right, you're all set! The stairs and elevator are just that way."

Once the newest tenant wrote another quick note and set it down for him, the Hero of Time quickly read it before looking back to him. "Of course! You're very welcome. If you ever need any help, don't hesitate to ask. My name is Link, and I'm the assistant innkeeper. Whether it's me or anyone else though, we're all here if you need us."

With a cheerful wave to Loukious before the man left to head up towards his new room, Link filed away the newest room form, made an adjustment to the main room list, and soon disappeared back into the innkeeper's office. With a smile to his nametwin now that he had returned, the two boys were set to tackle the last hour or so of tasks before enjoying their planned lunch with their family. It was about as normal a day as it could get here, and Link was set to make it a pleasant one indeed.
