    Not on Earth Anymore

Post by Loukios of the Web on Sat Jun 13, 2015 12:43 pm

    Time: Noon
    Date: June 13th

Thinking he would be hidden from sight, Loukios dissolved his black cloak as he exited the portal. It came as quite a shock to him when Loukios set foot onto a concrete sidewalk with countless people walking around him. He quickly turned round to see what he had walked out of and saw it was a window of a clothing store.

“Oh crap,” Loukios thought as he hastily looked around him. He was looking for the shocked faces of those who had never seen magic before, but to his surprise, no one seemed to care that a man just appeared out of a window. The mass of people around him just gave him a quick glance and then politely moved around him. “That’s odd… No one is freaking out,“ he pondered. “It’s like they are used to this or something…” He continued to look about him, trying to find the smallest clue that would help him figure out where he was. The city looked like New York City but he knew it wasn’t New York City. There was something off putting a different about this place. It was completely foreign but it seemed familiar.

“Where am I? This place can’t be on Earth. Maybe I passed into a Shadow Realm…” Loukios stroked his chin as he tried to deduce where he might be. “No, there are too many humans here.” As he continued to gather information, Loukios noticed he wasn’t surrounded by just humans. There were countless of other beings in the crowd. “Where in the world am I?”

Not New York and certainly not Kansas either, Dorothy.

Among the bustling figures of the thriving Portal City was one person who weaved carefully along with the crowd. Unlike the others in the beginning heat of summer who sweated and broiled beneath the  sun was one vampire who was regretting being out in the sun rather than in her shop toiling away, regrettably she had forgotten her lunch. So there she was, out decked in a long thick beige tench coat, her red scarf draped fashionably over her head and a large pair of sunglasses shielded her eyes. Her insulted lunch bag rested over one shoulder while Aya's free hand was wrapped tightly about the handle of a heavy duty sun blocking parasol. "Bother, bother, bother." She muttered to herself as she maneuvered about the crowds, trying to make it back to the shop in a timely manner. In her hustle and bustle paired with the noises of the city it left the draculina more than a little distracted, too much noise was hard on a vampire's senses after all.

Aya hurried her pace, feeling the burn of the sun start to creep past the thick layers she had donned for protection. "Bother." Came the out her annoyed hiss as she pushed with the crowd no aware than there was someone standing still in the crowd. Continuing forward, the vampiress was startled when her parasol came into contact with another person. Stepping back much quicker than normal reflexes would allow, she stared at the man. What in the heavens was someone standing around for she wondered but found it rather in poor taste to say aloud. Still she had just given this man a wallop with her parasol, luckily for him she wasn't running at the time or he might've gotten far worse than a love tap. "I am terribly sorry about that, I wasn't watching where I was heading. Are you quite all right?"

It came quite a shock to Loukios when he felt something tapped him on the head. Turning around and taking a step back, he saw what seemed to be a woman. He wasn’t sure if there was a woman under all that heavy clothing. The only gender identifying accessory was the parasol and that could be considered sexist. Men could walk around with parasols if they wanted to. Loukios wouldn’t judge. He had made several parasols for me during his time.

As for the tap the head, the mute man quickly signed that he was alright and that no harm was done. He hoped that the woman knew sign language. If not, then he hoped that she wouldn’t think he was being rude by no talking. Opening his small messenger bag, Loukios pulled out a small notepad and pencil. He quickly wrote down a few sentences. He then held out the small paper so she could read.

“I’m fine. Nothing more than a harmless little bump. No blood no foul.”

That coat did indeed hide a woman shaped person whom would've removed her sunglasses but unfortunately did not feel particularly excited to have her eyes singed out from her skull. But still, Aya continued to peer at the man closely if only to double check that she did know him. He seemed to have a familiar face, then again she thought people did have similar faces for some reason. The tapestry of life was strange, someone had told her.

The vampiress gave a tilt of the head, watching his hands move and mouthed a silent 'O' in recognition. Sign language. He couldn't talk or perhaps he was deaf? And she had not idea how to respond. She figured being honest in this case might fare better though when he began to write causing her to remain silent. Shifting her glasses down a little or her nose so the scrawl could be read, Aya straightened up, meticulously pushing her shades back into place. "I am glad you are uninjured. I should have been more aware to where I was rushing off to." Her lip did twitch upward at the thought of the later of his sentence. No blood, no foul. So it was in poor taste to find it amusing it was fresh on her mind and because she was hungry. It was lunch after all. "Well. I am sure  I have kept you long enough...ah, pardon me, I've managed to hit up upside your head yet didn't think to ask your name for the trouble. I am Aya Valentine. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Smiling kindly, Loukios jotted down another sentence. He wrote this one on a different page. “I should have made a sign or something ages ago encase something like this happens,” he chuckled in his head. He held out the page to kind woman.

“Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Valentine. I am Loukios Webster. I don’t suppose you could tell me where I am? I’m kind of lost.”

Of course Webster wasn’t his last name. Loukios had forgotten that ages ago. Webster was just one of many last names he had used while traversing the world. As a little joke and past time of his, Loukios would try and come up with last names that were related to spiders or webs. Of course Webster was the first one he came up with when he arrived in the New World. Over three millennia years old and Loukios still had childish fun side.

Well, for the heat Nyreena couldn't get enough of it even though the temperature didn't even affect her in the first place. She loved the summer time and loved being in the sun, feeling its warmth on her skin. Heading down Main Street she wondered what she could do outside while the sun was shining bright and clear up the street she had noticed that something was going on that made her quite curious. Two people were talking, one she recognized as Aya and the other she didn't. Having been practically all over the city in the past year she had seen a lot of faces and what she could see of his she couldn't remember seeing it. Wanting to see what was going on she cautiously approached the two and said, "Uh, hi there. I don't mean to intrude on things but is everything okay here?"

Seeing the notepad and figuring that Loukios was either deaf or mute tried her best to sign what she had just said, remembering the courses she took in sign language back home when she was in high school. Not needing to sleep she could learn a lot of things and one of the things she wanted to learn was sign language so she could communicate with a deaf girl that had transferred that held a similar interest in fashion as her so that they didn't have to have a communication barrier between them. Hopefully she wasn't overstepping her boundaries in their opinion.

She nodded politely, a smile smile in turn as she did in fact remember her manners. Though she could feel the certain pit of dread that welled up upon reading the last part of his note."Well, Mr. Webster," She began, stopping short to consider how to break such overwhelming news to someone fresh onto the Breach. What an unlucky chap, the vampire mused to herself silently while she peered at the man from behind her sunglasses. Better to do it as gently as possible and direct him to a place of solitude."This is Portal City, the city proper to be exact. Count yourself luckily you haven't wandered to a less savory place." The draculina decided against just dropping the 'Hello your world is dead bomb' for a better time and place. It didn't stop pity for the man to weigh heavy on her for what she very well might have to tell him, causing the grip on her parasol to tighten.

??? wrote:"Uh, hi there. I don't mean to intrude on things but is everything okay here?"

Two strangers in one day, what was the world coming to. Though this girl seemed familiar, Aya supposed but then again, when you've seen so many people in your life time they began to meld in odd ways. She wasn't sure what would make the situation seem concerning. Perhaps the bop to the head from her parasol accidentally could've been taken the wrong way. She noted the exchange of hand movements from the girl with bright hair towards Loukios silently, simply doing what she did best and watching. "Mr.Webster, if I may interject for a moment," Aya began deciding he should find a place of solitude and quiet for the news that he deserved to know."The city is awfully crowded in this particularly spot. Perhaps if you would like I could direct you towards a quieter place to collect yourself?"

So this place is Portal City, kind of an odd name for a city. Then again Loukios had lived in countless of cities with stranger names. That includes the multiple Alexandrias he lived in during Ancient Greece. “Alexander the Great wasn’t that great,” he thought. “He was a so-so kind of a guy.” Loukios really couldn’t read Ms. Valentine’s body language due to her heavy clothing but the way she spoke and toned lead on that something heavy was on its way. The Weaver didn’t have the slightest clue of what the Miss might say but it couldn’t be good.

The second madame came as a shock to Loukios as well. Whenever he started off in a new town, he rarely had two people show up to help him settle down. Newcomers to a new environment would often become overwhelmed by two new people so the singular person approach was the best way. Not for Loukios, the more the merrier. It meant he would have several sources to draw intel from along with different views about certain places or people. The second woman wasn’t dressed as heavily as the first. Her attire seemed more appropriate for the heat than the first, even though all that white make-up didn’t seem needed. It washed her out in Loukios’s opinion

Loukios greeted Nyreena with the same message he had used with Ms. Valentine, except he made some changes to it. He recognized the sign language she was using.

Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Valentine. I am Loukios Webster. I don’t suppose you could tell me where I am? I’m kind of lost. May I ask what your name is? I’m mute but can hear just fine. No need for sign language. Thank you for the courtesy though. Everything is fine. Just a small accident, that’s all. May I ask what your name is, ma’am?”

He made sure to smile sincerely so this second woman wouldn’t get the wrong impression of him. He hated for others to go out of their way for him. He quickly wrote another message down and showed it to the second woman. It would be rude not to ask the second woman what her name was after meeting her, but it seemed Ms. Valentine was still needing to tell Loukios something. Quickly writing a new message, he held out the paper for both women to see. Of course all this writing could be averted if he just put a hand to his throat and summoned his aura threads, but Loukios found hold his own throat rather annoying for any duration. He could always summon his violin but he didn’t want to spook either woman any further.

“I would love to find a nice place to collect myself, Ms. Valentine.”

He didn’t know if he should invite the second woman or not. Ms. Valentine was offering to help him and he didn’t want to overstep his social boundaries and upset her.

Call her old fashioned, but Aya always thought that bad news was never something you really wanted to lay upon someone in a crowded place. Especially when that news would give someone considerably negative emotions like sadness or anger that were easy to explode into a set of rash actions in the wrong conditions. If there were anything she could do to circumvent a mishap, she would do it. Waiting politely for Loukios to finish up his writing to the new arrival to either move on or inquire further with sign language.

Focusing her attention on the paper presented to her, the draculina gave a polite and firm nod of her head to the young man. "Yes, of course.  It maybe better for you to arrive at the place on your own. It is an Inn, free of charge for as long as you wish to reside." Though Aya knew better than to leave at the turn of the heel. "I can escort you after you handle things here before that." And like that she resumed her silence and stood straight and neat only moving to adjust her sunglasses and headscarf idly.

Watching as Loukios wrote something down on his notepad and showed it to her Nyreena noticed that he had changed his original message that was wrote down and reading it she got a much better understanding of what was going on. Nodding to say that she understood she looked up at him and with a pleasant smile she answered, "Nice to meet you Loukios. I'm Nyreena Dark Savaridin. And you're welcome. At least it was the thought that counted after all, right?"

Seeing the new note being directed to Aya it looked like she was going to show him a place to stay. Listening to Aya as she said that it would be better for him to arrive at the Inn on his own Nyreena was seriously half-tempted to offer to lead Loukios there herself since she lived there as well. But then hearing that Aya had offered to escort him there after he handled things here. Feeling like she was just insulted for seeing what was going on Nyreena kept her composure and said, "Well, I'm about head there myself since I have a room at the Inn. Since you two are on your way there I'll come with you. I wouldn't feel right if you two somehow took a wrong turn and didn't get to the Inn." Letting out a light laugh she really couldn't help but laugh at her own little joke.

(Hey sorry for keeping you waiting. Started a new job last week and had no time to post until today. Sorry again XD!)

So he would have two people to draw information, not bad. One problem, he wasn’t quite ready to find a solid place of residence. Granted that he didn’t really know the area, Loukios still wanted to sight see. He wanted to bum around for a while. See how the homeless live before seeing how the housed citizens lived. He typically did this when he moving to new regions. He believed that the poorest people often had the most knowledge. Scribbling down another message, he then showed it to the two women.

I thank you for the gesture but could we go to a park perhaps. Not to be rude but I like “roughing” it for a while whenever I arrive somewhere new. And a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Savaridin.

He was hoping not to offend his two new acquaintances with his request. Loukios figured whatever Ms. Valentine is going to tell him would be shocking. He was grateful that she was offering to help him out during this time. As for Ms. Savaridin, Loukios thought she was a nice woman with good intentions. Maybe a poor choice in make up but good taste in clothes.

The Stranger in blue wrote:"Well, I'm about head there myself since I have a room at the Inn. Since you two are on your way there I'll come with you. I wouldn't feel right if you two somehow took a wrong turn and didn't get to the Inn."

Aya paused and fixated her gaze though shrouded by the dark lenses on Nyreena solely.  An intense focus as her free hand moved to join it's twin on the handle with a delicate grasp. Now, the draculina was the sort who held fast to many social graces and other such things. Call it old habits. Under such things she always refrained from humor, mostly because she didn't have a spectacular sense of funny around strangers. Call her a stick in the mud, but she wouldn't digress, just be very miffed about it. Of course Aya Valentine was extremely prideful and to many absolutely legendary for her temper. Ask Bloodscream what happened when you jabbed and jeered a vampiress a little too hard. He'd explain in fine detail how it felt to have a refrigerator smashed atop his head. So it felt slightly personal to have her sense of direction made light of. But temper wouldn't be her downfall, she was above petty things, it was what being a lady demanded.

"Yes, what a shame it would be to become turned around in the very same place I have resided for half a decade." She responded with a eerily polite tone, a small saccharine smile played across her lips before becoming silent once more as she watched Loukios begin to scrawl something upon his paper. She restrained herself from giving a tilt of the head and verbally questioning his judgement. He was a grown man, Aya figured and it was his right to decided how to settled into his new dwellings and what pace as well. "I see. That is perfectly acceptable. The park is not far and should accommodate your 'roughing' it needs. Shall we depart then?"

Patiently waiting when she saw Loukios start to write down another message and when he showed it to her and Aya Nyreena read it over really quick and nodded in understanding knowing the park inside and out. Understanding that he liked to "rough" it for a bit whenever he arrived in a new place the young ghost found that way of doing things quite interesting. Giving him a smile she replied, "Oh, sure it's no problem. And don't worry I think that learning about where you are and how things work before finding a place to settle is a great way to go about things when you first arrive somewhere you don't know."

Watching Aya pause and what seemed like she was looking at her, noticing that her other hand had reached up to grab onto the handle of her umbrella Nyreena wasn't sure what was going on with her but when she finally spoke and said that what a shame it would be turned around in the very same place that she had resided in for five years and with the eerily polite tone that she said it with plus the smile it was very clear to Nyreena that she had made the unknowing mistake of insulting her. Well, how was she supposed to know that Aya lived at the Inn as well as she did? At that point the only thing Nyreena knew what to do to remedy the situation especially in front of a newcomer was to subtly apologize to Aya for making the mistake and tell her that she really didn't know a lot of the tenants that lived at the Inn. Meeting Aya's gaze and making her body language calm and respectful she said, "I'm sorry, I didn't know that you lived at the Inn as well. To be honest I really don't know a lot of the beings that live at the Inn I usually keep to myself when I'm in my room. I promise I didn't mean to insult you by what I said and if I truly did I'm sorry that I did. I meant no disrespect by what I said whatsoever." Though when they would start making their way to the park she was going to make sure that she stayed to back and would stay as quiet as possible so that she wouldn't insult either of them by mistake again.

(Hey sorry for the long wait it took forever for me word this just right XD)

Loukios couldn’t help but take a small step back after Ms. Valentine’s creepy response. If the mute man learned one thing from his lengthy life, it was never offend a classy lady. He had made that mistake several times and could still feel the slaps they left of his face. He looked between the two ladies and silently prayed he wasn’t about to get caught in some kind of female fight. Loukios had been caught between a few in his time and they never ended well, especially for him. Out of all the creatures, Elders, Next Generation, and other beings he had met, he always thought the females of each one to be scarier than their male counterparts. Even the most feared Archon was a woman and not a single Elder could stand up to her.

He couldn’t help but let out a small relieved sigh once Ms. Savaridin said her apology. Looks like he wouldn’t be caught in a female fight today. Quickly writing his response, he showed the sheet of paper to both ladies.

I am ready to leave whenever you are, Ms. Valentine.

Aya remained stone still, rigid and her smile still withholding upon her face. If anything, Aya Valentine had more in common with a vault than she didn't with people. Why? Both were near indestructible less you face them with explosives and if you did manage to open up whatever lay inside? You would be sure to regret it. If any present thought they would be graced with her temper, they would be shelving the idea for sure. Still the smile held still on her face, and behind the darkened lenses of her glasses, she gave the bright haired child a long look. Apologies she figured were polite, at least in public face value but quickly lost value without true meaning. "I think this poses an infallible lesson. In life and beyond, we must be quicker to listen and think than we are to speak. I've known a great many beings in this plane that were far less forgiving when they felt vindicated." Such terror would not be known, however the force that was the vampire standing before them was in no hurry to deliver smitings. It was too messy.

That being handled, she saw that Loukios was ready to venture onward to his temporary living standards, which even she would not turn a nose up at. Considering she often vanished into the wilderness for a few weeks and returned wearing muddied jeans and hiking boots and looking to be nothing like the polished lady of society many knew her to be. "Without of further ado, if you would be kind enough to follow with me." Turning sharply on heel, she made a steady pace though thoughtful enough to tone it down for the others as her pace was sometimes hard to keep up with if she wasn't mindful. "If you would not mind Mr Webster, could I ask what profession you occupy yourself with?" She had to ask, mostly because she doubted 'mountain man' was it, he just didn't have that sort of look.
