    Save The Date!

Post by Livewire on Sun Feb 08, 2015 12:42 am

    Date:  2/8/004
    Time: 02:13 AM
Location: Skyler and Livewire’s Room (Stock Pot Inn)

    You wanna know what’s hard?

Cooking in a kitchen full of dogs and cats who are entirely, utterly convinced that if they whine and rub against your legs that you will just scoop off whatever it is you’re cooking right into their ready-and-waiting mouths.  Of course they did not realize how terrible of an idea that was, since it would probably burn their tongues into little melty bits of pain, but that didn’t seem to hinder their attempts at all.

Livewire had been cooking for the better part of two hours before she finally, finally finished plating it all up.  She had to admit that this had been an exciting challenge!  She knew that one or two of these recipes would show up in her sister’s lunches, especially now that she’d started exercising deliberately.   “Butch, get back now.” She gently moved the Rottweiler out of the way.  He let out a whine up towards the youngest sister before relenting and trotting over to stand with James at the kitchen entrance.  Penny, the chow, had already been placated with her bit of Black Pudding and was taking this time to get some beauty sleep.  Even though Livewire had given each of the animals just a little taste (if it was safe), they seemed just adamant that they were absolutely starving.  She looked at them and rolled her eyes before reaching down to pat the two dogs on their heads.  The child paused as she ran through her mental checklist before nodding to herself.  Time to go, then!

    Date:  2/8/004
    Time: 04:17 AM
    Location: Kev’s Cottage

An hour later caught Livewire making decent progress away from the city’s barriers.  Even though it was February, the only protection that the femme offered herself was a typical sweater and scarf.  They really didn’t do anything for her, she just felt wrong without them at this point.  No, the real star in Thermal Efficency would have to be her basket.  It was just a simple picnic basket that Livewire had picked up at a shop, but all wrapped around it was a blanket that she had been planning to repair at some point.  Her payload wouldn’t be as good cold, after all.

The child looked up to the sky at the moon, and took a moment to appreciate it.  She did like the moon, even if the romantic pining of many a poet escaped her.  Plus it helped her to see on her trek, which was rather important.  She continued on her path which had been memorized weeks ago.  Every Sunday morning she would make her way through the paths of the city and out into the wilderness to her secret visits.  She had made promises, and so the midst of the night was the best time to leave.  Or, it was today at least.  But today was special, so some change in the schedule was acceptable. She didn’t know if her friends would remember the importance of Monday, and Livewire herself was fine with that.  They had far more important things to worry about, but she still wanted to do something a little special for the coming date.

And a few hours before sunrise, Livewire finally arrived at her destination.  The outline of Kev’s cottage and barn brought a sense of ease to the femme now that she was among familiar places.  She checked her basket and found it sufficiently warm after its long exposure to the elements.  Perfect!  If she kept it wrapped up, then it would just need a little heating on the stove for breakfast.  The child smiled to herself and practically skipped up to the cottage door to (quietly) knock three times.  Kev should still be asleep, but at least two other tenants would be able to hear her.  Well, she hoped so anyway.

Do you... Do you think there was anything up there?

The sweet, intoxicating aroma of nicotine wafted through the early morning air, tiny embers glowing briefly in the pre-dawn darkness. Hardened nails idly scratched at leather, disturbing heavy chains and rustling thick fabric. "Mm..." Lying flat on his back and gazing up at the twinkling heavens was a complacent Judge Fear; well, what else was the ghoul supposed to be doing out here? Today, he told himself, was Sunday. The 8th of February, in fact. The day itself was rather inconsequential. Tomorrow would mark the official end of week three and the beginning of week four. That, see, was of substantial importance. Time sure flies fast when you're having fun beating both the literal and figurative stuffing out of a scaly alien, eh?

Another pseudo-inhale, another plume of deadly carcinogens. Week four already... It certainly gave the old boy something to think about, most notably Kev's progress. Tired, mm... Tired was perhaps a good starting adjective to describe the alien. Alas, alas! Nothing worth its weight in meaning was simply given or earned without struggle. Already the alien was getting faster, wiser, stronger. Oh what marvels a simple month can bring... much like the stars above Judge Fear's resting head.

Again, he asked himself: is there anything up there?

Stars had planets that orbited them, didn't they? That's what it said in all those astronomical books. And while not all planets were capable of supporting and sustaining life, there had to be at least a few garden worlds. His judicial mind got to wondering on these quiet, lonely nights... What if they traveled to the cosmos above? What if things didn't work out on Portal Breach and they were hard-pressed to seek other ventures? It was daunting, admittedly. Neither of the Dark Judges were very studious when it came to astrophysics and anything remotely concerning the heavens, but that still didn't rule out the possibility. Question was... would there be life on those faraway planets? And if so, would it be more like the Mega City and Deadworld, easier to purge and not stricken with strips of refreshing code? Maybe, maybe... It was all very interesting to think about and it made the time pass much qui -

    Knock, knock, knock!

    Someone was at the door.

    Someone that he couldn't sense.

Judge Fear immediately sprung into action, talons outstretched and his shadow contorting. Who dares to arrive this early? Who dares to disturb Kev while he slumbers? You would think by now that the Dark Judge could recognize a familiar pattern, such as a small femme's visitation habits, but one never got far on the job by assuming. The ghoul melded into his darkened surroundings and slithered his way toward the front, ghostly eyes peering out into the meadow.

Ah, it was none other than - "Good morning, Livewire. You are here early today," he hissed. The Dark Judge forsook his cover, having deemed it safe, and rigidly hobbled his way toward the... Cyberwhat'sit? Something like that. He took interest in her basket and directed a yellowed fingernail at it. "What isss that you have there? Isss it for Kev?" The curses of not being able to smell, hmm? Give him a moment, Livewire. Judge Fear wanted to know what was in the basket first before letting you inside. He was slightly dull in a malevolent-spirit-inhabiting-a-rotten-corpse kind of way.

Fear was not alone in these thoughts.  Many times, many times, Livewire had gazed up into the stars and wondered to herself, if they were up there.  While she may not be wondering of there were those in need of judging out among the night’s lights, she felt a need to know all the same.  But it was not planets that interested her, no not at all.  It was four, just four people who she didn’t know…what she would do, if she ever saw them again.

There had been times where she thought she would be happy to see sunlight glinting off of the red, white, and blue jet.  There had been times when she thought that everything, everything would be fine if she could just see that pale skin one more time.

There were times that she wished they were suffering, or already dead forever.

But now was not a time that she thought about them.  Now, with her wicker basket in hand and a learned patience to wait for the shadow, she was coming to spend time with who had started to heal that void and guide her more effectively than any pair before them.  Why else would she be dedicated enough to sneak away from her home every Sunday and lie to her friends just to keep their location as secret as she could?  Very few held the femme’s loyalty in this way.

Ah, there he was.  Livewire smiled happily as the Judge materialized into view, already commenting on her arrival time. “Yep!  I was getting’ all antsy, so I decided to come early.”  She rocked back on her feet somewhat with that smile still bright and her cyan eyes locked on Judge Fear’s face.  That was until he pointed out the basket, for Livewire took a moment to figure how to answer that.  Did she just say it now?  Wait for it to be a surprise?  …eeeeeh, presents were more fun when there were teasers!

“It’s for both of you!  I’m turnin’ four years old tomorrow, so I wanted to bring you both something I thought you’d like.”  And that was aaaaaaaall you were gonna get until she started warming this up, Fear!  She was the Queen of Gift Giving, after all.

“It’s for both of you!  I’m turnin’ four years old tomorrow, so I wanted to bring you both something I thought you’d like.”

    What's this, now?

Hardened nails scratched at his brittle hip, the Dark Judge requiring a few more seconds to process what Livewire had just now said. So... that basket was for both of them, Kev and himself? Had to be, mm... And what's all this talk about turning four? "...Tomorrow isss your day?" And there we are, Judge Fear had been successfully brought up to speed. He absolutely refused to say birthday. "Hmm, I did not know thisss," hissed the undead fiend. Tomorrow Livewire was turning four and she had brought... gifts for them? Huh, that was the reverse of usual custom, wasn't it? Another handful of seconds, another turning of rusty, cobweb-riddled gears. "But Livewire," the Dark Judge spoke up, "Kev'sss day wasss on the 11th of January and I know not mine. Ssshouldn't you be receiving giftsss inssstead?" There was a disconnect somewhere, but if the femme wanted to hand out gifts of her own volition he was of no authority to stop her. Never once did it cross his mind that Livewire's gifts needed to be refrigerated (Judge Fear had the same problem with milk).

Alright, that was enough questioning. With a rigid creak of his spine and the harsh snapping of his joints, the ghoul opened up the cottage and allowed Livewire entrance. "Kev isss fassst asssleep," he rasped, bringing a green finger to the visor of his helm. "Pleassse do not disssturb him until he awakensss. You may ssset your basssket anywhere you like and patiently wait in the meantime." Sleep was important for the alien's progress.

It was also important to Metus, whose heavy girth was fast asleep and keeping Kev nice and warm.

Fret not, Fear!  Confusion wasn’t exactly an uncommon response to Livewire’s little Creation Day Habit.  She was well aware that most customs would have her getting presents, like Fear had done with Kev when he took both the cadet and Livewire to the jungles, but what she hoped this would turn out to be was worth more to Livewire than gifts.  It was to share the experience, and if she was incredibly lucky, get to see Fear being openly happy like he had at Christmas.  Magical times, those.

She also wasn’t surprised that Fear wasn’t aware of Monday’s importance to her.  To be honest, it wasn’t all that important to Livewire, either.  The child was just using it as an excuse to do something special for two people she loved.  And on that sappy note, how much cheese do you think you can handle, Fear?  This would be a question to ponder as Livewire moved the basket to hold it in both her hands as she looked into Fear’s visor.   “Well, I guess I figured doin’ somethin’ special for you guys was a gift!”  And the worst part?  She meant every word.  Just let that sink in, Fear, how valued you were by this little kid.

Thankfully Livewire’s items were sturdy enough that they could last a while longer outside of a refrigerator, so the femme didn’t feel the need to rush at all as Fear allowed her inside.  She nodded and took that time to dial her voice down so that it wouldn’t disturb a certain Sleeping Beauty.   “I won’t.  Would it be okay if I used the stove for a bit?” Even with her efforts a blanket would only do so much to keep the food at the temperature it needed to be, especially when it was freezing outside.  Some gradual warming in a pan and or stove would do the trick!

…she was pretty sure that Kev had a stove.

Happiness and Judge Fear was one helluva combination. And as for how much cheese...?

    ...scritch, scritch, scritch!

    You have your answer.

A grotesque fingernail pointed the way forward, to the kitchen. "You may ussse the ssstove, yesss. Head through the living room and around a corner; the ssstove will be to your left." Ah, so that's what must be hiding in Livewire's basket... foodstuffs! Did the femme think to bake, or perhaps heat something up? It could be anything and everything for all the ghoul knew, and no amount of psychic digging would yield a satisfying answer. A frustrating marvel, technology. Judge Fear trailed behind Livewire and observed her from the kitchen doorway, though he did not enter the room himself. It was hardly big enough for the ghoul, let alone two people at once. "If you require pansss or potsss, they are ssstored in the cabinetsss directly acrossss the oven. Lidsss are on the top ssshelf and the cookware isss on the bottom," he hissed. Very useful information to know, yes? Quite convenient. But just as the Dark Judge could be helpful and mellow...

"What isss it that you desssire for your... day?" He could be incredibly blunt and without tact. Social skills were not commonly seen as a necessary to the cognizant undead, so hopefully the femme would not mind.

Livewire nodded with a smile as she carried her package onto the kitchen.  A brief glance was taken as she stood at the entrance before she set her basket on the counter.  The child listened to Fear’s instructions and she went about, getting a pan and placing it upon the stove before turning the stove on so that it could start heating.  She paused for another moment, reviewing something in her mind, perhaps instructions?  To those outside, it would just look like Livewire had frozen for a few seconds before returning to typical animation.  While Fear might be denied the instant gratification to his curiosity that he’d like, it wouldn’t be long before some of the gift was revealed.

A few more moments saw her tools being heated as Livewire worked to unwrap the blanket from around the basket.  The cover was folded and set aside to reveal the main event; namely three plastic food containers and a ceramic dish with a lid.  The child gently lifted out the ceramic dish and set it on the counter before with gentle click click click of her metal fingers against the clay, she lifted off the lid.  Revealed to Fear would be the (hopefully) delicious fruits of Livewire’s labor.  In separate little clear containers within the dish were arranged three patties of Bubble & Squeak, sausage, haggis, baked beans, two cooked portabella mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, lightly charred bacon, and a poached egg.  She set each one aside and reached into the pan to press her knuckle against the heating metal to check the temperature.  Her fingers weren’t very sensitive, so she had to rely on damage sensors within her joints to get a good read on it.

Oh, what a question that was.  Livewire looked up at Fear as he asked before frowning slightly in thought as she picked up the container of Bubble & Squeak and opened it to gently lay the patties upon the surface.   “Umm…I’m not sure, didn’t really think about it this year.”  The bacon was next to join the pan, then followed by the sausages.   “I was trying to figure out what to make you the past week or so, so I didn’t spend much time considering that.”  The haggis, beans, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, and egg were placed upon a cooking sheet and awaited the oven to finish heating up. Just to warm them through, since she did all the cooking before.  A lid was fitted onto the pan before she leaned against the counter and gave Fear’s question a good thunk.  What did she want…?

“Um…”  Gosh, she really hadn’t considered it.  Between the growing stress and strain of staying back in the city without these two, which was only getting harder to deal with at the beginning of each week, she had started to view her Sunday visits as a gift in and of themselves as they gave her a sense of stability that was lost during the week, along with a time to be near those she cared for.  What else could she want that Fear could give?   “…I feel like I should have an answer, but I really don’t.”  Quite the conundrum.

Judge Fear was no stranger to petrified stances. In fact, he was doing one right now. The femme had paused in her ministrations and so did he, ghostly eyes directed straight ahead in a vacant stare. Without another mind to infiltrate and detect, the old boy was rather prone to physical inactivity. He nevertheless glanced over as Livewire became animated throughout the kitchen. What's she got in those containers, hmm? The first to be opened was a ceramic dish of sorts, and boy oh boy wasn't that a sight for old, weary eyes.

Haggis, sausage, beans, mushrooms and a poached egg! Bacon, tomatoes and several hashed patties! To the unaccustomed eye, this medley of food would have seen nonsensical and entirely strange. But to his... Chains rattled and leather stretched as the Dark Judge shambled over, fingers curling. "Well I'll be damned," he hissed in amazement. That right there was bubble and squeak, right beside an English breakfast! Golly, the ghoul hadn't seen that in... well, what felt like an eternity! A pleased sound escaped his throat and he stepped aside to let Livewire go about her business unhindered. It wouldn't do to sully all her hard work with bits of rotten flesh, right? "Where did you learn to make bubble and sssqueak?" It wasn't exactly a very difficult dish to make, though it did require persistence and some leftovers. Ah, but the thought... Livewire had gone out of her way make all this, and that didn't include the other three containers!

"The Full Monty, ha ha!" What a treat. A pity about not being able to appreciate her labour fully, however. Taste buds and olfactory sensors didn't exactly carry over into undeath. Still! There was always the possibility of piggybacking off Kev.

“I was trying to figure out what to make you the past week or so, so I didn’t spend much time considering that.”

Well that's no fun, now, is it?

The Dark Judge would have none of that. "Poppycock," he rasped. "I bet you have an anssswer in that ssshiny noggin of yoursss. You're a bright lassss, Livewire. Give it a few momentsss and think about it." He would have picked her mind if he could, but... well, you know. Technology and all that. "Material, immaterial; there isss sssurely sssomething, mm..." Always was.

Livewire couldn’t at all help the pleased, proud grin that spread across her face.  She had done good, she just knew it.  The child treasured moments like this, when she could surprise someone that she loved with something that they would enjoy.  That was why she put so much time into the scarves that she made for her friends, the hats and the teacups.   “I checked out a few books on traditional British cooking, an’ made the recipes that they agreed on.”  Oooh, oh he was laughing!  Livewire just felt that pride bubble up warmly within her, so satisfied in her own efforts.

Still waiting for the oven to heat, Livewire took this moment to place the other three containers within the now-empty ceramic dish, then the dish back within the basket.  She wanted to keep them at a relatively constant temperature until they were needed, after all.  And as for that pity, Livewire had made this while counting on Fear being able to piggyback.  She had noted before that Fear was able to sense temperature, taste, and pain through the connection with Kev, and so she figured that Kev could be his tongue for now.  And if that didn’t work, she still was happy with the results!

Considering how deep and intimidating Fear’s voice could be, it was only through sheer force of will that Livewire did not giggle when he said “poppycock”.  Even as her humor kept a little smile on her face, Livewire did take the moment to consider.  What did she want, material or immaterial…

“Well…”  There was one thing, she could think of.  It had only happened a few times, but the dream had been with her since the first few months of her existence.    “I kinda, really want to be able to fly.  Or, at least feel like I’m flyin’.”  Maybe it was a leftover from her first guardian, but even when he was gone the desire stayed with her.  To feel unbound by the earth, soaring and tumbling and falling and rising all together.  The time that Arro had taken her for a quick trip through the skies was a treasured memory for the femme.

She didn’t know if that could be achieved, but it was something.

"They have booksss on all that, do they?" He wasn't surprised. Portal City's library had been a sight to behold. Which got the fiend thinking: what else had Livewire brought for them to try? Three containers, three mysteries. Judge Fear didn't do well with surprises; psychic and all that. Picking the femme's mind had never become more tempting, especially since it was damn near impossible due to her... Cyberwhat'sit properties. Guess he'll just have to see, eh? "Mm..." Easier said than done.

“I kinda, really want to be able to fly.  Or, at least feel like I’m flyin’.”

Like a jet with a nuclear payload!?

A Dark Judge can dream, can't he? Now let's see if he could turn that dream into a reality. Letting the femme happily go about her business with a smile etched on her metallic face, Judge Fear presented her with an interesting offer. "Would you like to fly today?" he inquired. Subtle. Very subtle. "You will not exactly be sssoaring through the cloudsss and making idle gossssip with the birdsss, but it'll be damn clossse." It may not be on the scaly back of a dragon or carried by the screaming engines of a jet, but it was something. It was the best the Dark Judge could judicially, and possibly, offer. "Ssshould you choossse, you may have your gift now. There isss ssstill plenty of time before Kev will awaken." Bless him, Livewire. Judge Fear was forgetting that food needed to be refrigerated and that the stove will have to be turned off. You'll surely remember these things for him, won't you?

“The library has books on everythin’.”  She had been going there for years, and still she hadn’t even made the slightest dent all of the material stored there.  Worry not, Judge!  Your curiosity would be sated, but not right now.  And as that frustration with her mechanical mind grew, well…should the opportunity to bypass that arise, the Judge would find no resistance on the femme’s end.

"Would you like to fly today?"

Well, that certainly gave her pause!  The femme’s optics snapped back up to the Judge’s helm as her hands stilled in her preparations.  He could help her fly?  …of course he could help her fly, Livewire, had she already forgotten about how Fear had taken her and Kev to the Jungle?  Goodness.  A bright smile lit up Livewire’s face as her fingers went about turning off the stove and burners.  If they had plenty of time until Kev woke up then it would be better to heat it up later, anyway.   “Okay!  Okay okay, let me just put this stuff up.”  Already the animation of her anticipation was working its way through her motions, quick and jerky as the barely-heated food in the pan was carefully removed and placed back into its container.

It seemed that the femme just couldn’t move fast enough with how quickly this prospect of flying with Fear was filling her up.  Oh man, oh man.  Oh man.

Books on everything... Wonder if there was anything on summoning individuals from across time and space? Best to save that little adventure for a later date, when there wasn't excitable company. Did anyone ever tell the femme that her vibrant yellow paint job distracted the eyes whenever she streaked around? That was a surefire way to accrue quite the many speeding tickets, oh yes. A certain other Cyberwhat'sit was plagued by the same problem, though he was a striking red...

"You may take your time," Judge Fear hissed, ghostly eyes darting as they trailed the ever-jittery Livewire. Positively dizzying! "There isss no need to russsh, mm... Kindly put away your thingsss and ensssure a good, thorough job." At least one of them had remembered to turn off the stove, which was a mighty plus. It would be awful to return to a burnt Kev-on-a-stick, no? Not that Metus would let such an outrageous thing happen on his vigilant watch. He patiently waited for the femme to finish up in the kitchen before gesturing. "Thisss way, thisss way," urged the ghoul, stepping backward into the cottage's darkened living room. Save for the eerie glow of his helm and the ominous rattling of his many chains, Judge Fear was all but invisible. There was fortunately the welcomed creak of the front door and a soft light draped over furniture; the moon had yet to retire for the upcoming dawn.

Outside and no longer forced to stoop, the Dark Judge remained out on the porch. Leathery toes cracked as he continued to linger around for the femme's exit. "When you are ready, Livewire, we ssshall begin. You will return before sssunrissse, though I cannot promissse when." It could very well be an hour's time or even several. Everything depended on how long the young Cyberwhat'sit wished to stay out.

For that topic in the library, Livewire wouldn’t be surprised. She had found the strangest things in her library trips, so it was rather difficult to shock Livewire with something found in a book.  Oh, the things she’d learned…like how to drive according to roadsigns and proper behavior in traffic!  It took her a while to get there, yes, but Livewire was a proper driver now.  She wouldn't have offered her taxi service if she wasn't!

Livewire nodded at Fear’s instructions and worked more slowly, taking care.  Each box was gently but firmly sealed before being placed within the refrigerator to keep until they were ready.  With the last item secured, Livewire all-but skipped out of the kitchen to follow her Judge.  Her optics quickly adjusted to the darkness but the moon’s light rendered their actions unnecessary.  That was fine, however, as even small annoyances couldn't get her down right now. Little metal feet happily clicked after the Judge's leathery soles as his more excitable alien kept on his heels.  She had come to the cottage just wanting to give them a tasty treat, and for that she was going to get a taste of something she'd wanted most of her life.  Oh boy!

Fear’s last comment had Livewire’s head nodding as fast as she could nod it as she made a (quiet) exclamation of affirmation.  “’m ready! I'm really really ready!”  Oh look at how jumpy you’d made her, Fear.  This day was already going better than she’d originally expected, and she had originally expected it to be amazing.

“’m ready! I'm really really ready!”

That's all he needed to hear.

It was time... It was time to embrace shadow! Her vision faltered and darkness draped over the femme, an invisible hand resting itself upon a rigid shoulder. A soft tug was all she felt before Livewire plummeted into the unknown... Fear not, fear not. You were in responsible hands, dear child.

    Thud, thud, thud.

Thunder rumbled across the sleepy countryside, the distinct rattle of metal striking metal. Something firmly wrapped itself around the femme's arms, though she saw not what it could be. Livewire saw only the blessed sanctuary of night. A vast plain opened before her and the wind bowed as she raced above gentle blades of grass at blazing speeds. Above loomed a tranquil purple sky, stars twinkling down at a world devoid of the sun's vibrant touch. It was soothing here... quiet and peaceful. Not all was what it seemed, however. In the darkened shadows of the nearby forest gleamed many opalescent eyes; teeth chattered and horrific appendages of every shape and size writhed where one's awareness could not sanely reach. Livewire need not concern herself with their presence. The wraiths were intelligent, cautious. They knew who carried the golden child through their world.

Faster, faster! The femme was going faster. Her pedes danced over the earth, frame as weightless as the clouds. More clapping of thunder, accented by the harrowing cry of an unseen master. The shadow-creatures flung themselves to the four winds out of cowardice. Livewire now had supreme right over the Heartlands umbral twin and none dared to contest her unspoken claim. Though it was not to last and parting was such bittersweet sorrow, she had flown over much of the land.

Plush meadows gave way to a sparkling river. With an energetic splash her pedes glided across the amethyst waters, the sensation one to covet. It was a breathtaking rush as the femme was playfully zigzagged through a herd of drinking night-terrors.

    Thud, thud, thud.

Her reflection glimmered beneath the eternal moon, cyan optics staring upward from the murky depths. What... What was that carrying her? The femme didn't have enough time to assess her mysterious guardian before the river ended, giving way to a deep and severe canyon. Down they fell... Down, down, down... Gravity took hold of the femme's sensors but never was she in any peril. There was a mighty beating of wings, a great plume of shadowy dust, and once again they were racing through the twilight gorge. Livewire had the honour of first skirting across its dried floor bed before zooming upon its painted walls. Together both child and shrieking chaperone owned place; this refuge from unworthy daywalker eyes. Alas, they had to keep moving.

Rocky crags became grassy knolls in short order, and far off in the distance winked thousands of lights. Ah, the city... They would not be heading there. Her diligent overseer could not logically entertain such a risk. The world sharply banked and away the pair journeyed, heading for the west. There the sun will not bother them.

At least, not for a while...

    Parched deserts.

    Snow-capped mountains.

    Murky swamps and calm wetlands.

Livewire flew through these biomes and then some, their treasures known to her. No stone was left undiscovered. Fast, slow, fast, slow. The rhythm was steady; methodical. But as the third hour of the femme's flight drew closer still...

    Thud... thud... thud...

    Her guide was tiring.

Thunder devolved into a hushed whimper, shrieks now raspy grunts. Heavy was she, this unassuming child! Heavy and hopefully pleased with her cruise around these fascinating lands. It was time to head south, now. South to where a quaint little cottage patiently waited for them. Creatures of the night's protection sensed the guardian's exhaustion and raced to join the femme, their bizarre and gorgeous forms alongside her. They whooped and they howled, the beasts perhaps wishing to further enjoy in this oddity. It wasn't every day that a golden daywalker traveled in their midst. At times they playfully nipped at her pedes and stroked their elongated hands against the tips of her hands, but never did they try a higher temper. When it was time to part ways and return to their shadowy dens, the creatures released a mournful cry and were banished by a loud and terrible shriek. Livewire's guardian would have no more of it.

Her return to the cottage had been pleasant and without incident, and soon, after a few times circling Kev's abode, their flight drew to a sluggish crawl. Livewire was the first to manifest into a brighter world, the moon having since drooped closer toward the horizon. As for the Dark Judge himself?

"Mmmrgh..." He was fine, rest assured.

Both hands rubbed the small of his decrepit back as Judge Fear stretched out all its kinks. "A bloody busss," the ghoul hissed. "Forget the taxi; you're the whole damn parking lot!" Ah, nothing more than playful griping. You try carrying around a small automobile for three hours while traveling across the land. It would certainly make an eager chiropractor happy. Finished with his massaging for now, the Dark Judge resumed his usual corpse stoop and began stretching out his lanky arms. Pop! Ahhh, much better...

Livewire’s bright smile did not fade as the darkness took her.  She knew Fear’s methods and did not flinch as her arms were grasped nor did she worry for her own safety.  She trusted her guide, and so her mind was only filled with eagerness to meet the time ahead of them.

Once more, she found herself brought to this shaded land.  Her smile could only grow so much, but her joy was not so bound. Her mind quickly put together an estimate of Fear’s plan, but it could not compare to the realization of it.

She was flying.  Each blade of dark grass sped below her as she raced across the surface, above it, through the fields and over the grasps of shadows she could not comprehend. The thunder’s cry was deafening, but still it was challenged by the bright, light laughter of a child’s deep wish coming true.  She whooped, she laughed, she was silent in awe, all of these things for each and every sight.  She felt free and unbound in a way that she hadn’t before.  And she went faster and faster, faster before through the land that held such a beauty that Livewire wished she could see always.

Every turn, every change, every tree and every sparkle from the waters below was so much more than Livewire could have thought.  It was all beautiful, it was all wonderful.  She did not balk at the reflection of her guardian, and seeing even just a glimpse only made the moment more special.  He was doing this for her, he was sharing this world, with her.  It was amazing, it was…it was so much.

A peal of laughter broke from the femme as they dove and raced beyond colorful stone, up the canyons and through every place that Livewire’s own fear kept her from trying to see herself.  Each soft hill covered in swaying grasses, each span of cracked earth that was so dry and unforgiving yet teeming with a complexity that captured the child.  Every mountain’s peek, every shimmer from moist earth was greater than any picture, any paragraph of description from the books Livewire so eagerly devoured.  It was all too beautiful, too amazing, and she wished that her mind could have each memory permanently seared into its being, into her own soul.

Dampened thunder brought concern to the femme.  Before, Fear had said how she was heavy to carry, and he had carried her all this way.  The child did not once complain when the landscape became familiar.  No thought existed of regret, or any notion of asking for more.  Her guide had given so much, and it was all too beautiful.  It was now time to return home, but it seemed they would not be returning alone.

Livewire looked upon each and every traveler that came to join them.  Their touches were met with giggles, their curiosity matched in turn by the child’s own as her eyes drank their beauty.  Even as they were banished she delighted in them, calling out her own farewell.  The time to return was coming now as they slowly circled the cottage that Livewire missed each and every time it left her view.

Just as it had begun, so did it end. The metal child was released from shade’s hold and back into the moonlit grass.  She was silent, for a moment, as her mind treasured each memory that was recorded.  She turned to face her Judge as her mind swirled, each joyful golden thread weaving itself throughout her being.  He had taken her to fly.  Judge Fear had turned a last-minute birthday gift into fulfilling a wish Livewire had held on to since the times where she was so, so young.  Just like when they had arrived at the jungles before, Livewire needed time to process.  Fret not, for the silence would not last long.

“…that was AMAZING!”  Ah, there we go.  Livewire’s exhilaration was displayed in every twitch of her fingers, every light in her optics, every stretch of her mouth as she smiled and expressed as much as she could.  ”It was beautiful!  It was fast, and dark and colorful, an’ AMAZING an’ varied an’ there was water an’ trees an’ mountains an’ everything!  She couldn’t stop moving, each word was accented by the femme running in a circle, throwing her arms up because she just didn’t know how she could express how perfect it was.   “An’, an’ you took me and you, you-“ Here she comes, Fear.  The moment couldn’t be short enough for Livewire before she embraced the Judge, holding him tight against herself and not devoting one thought to the necrotic tissue.

“An’ I love you.  I love you, I love you so much.”  He had done this for her.  He had done so much for her and never once was it required.  Even though most were afraid, didn’t understand, Livewire took every part of Fear that she knew and had grown to love it. “I love you.”

Now would be a good time to be glad that a mental bond with the child could not be established.  If you thought Kev was bad…
