Oh boy, floods. If there was one disaster Zurg was the least fond of (aside from ion storms blocking his cable) it was a flood. He scrunched his snout, revealing his displeasure. "Well... I guess I might as well purchase that insurance, huh?" Ah, just a bit of light humour to pass the time. It was logical to assume that the Nazaj'ir would like to drown out these lands for an ideal expansion of their territory; however, this was no small task. It also wasn't as if most folks these days would somehow ignore a mammoth tidal wave coming to wash them out to sea. "I suppose it would be in their better interests to rid the planet of land-dwellers and soil, but that is a rather big goal. It's probably their endgame." Which meant they were getting ahead of themselves. Zurg tossed his mane at the possibility of Ss'ruul slaves being privy to information. "If they speak the same language," he dutifully pointed out. The alien was willing to bet that the two races did not, despite both having scaled hides.

Anyway, what's with all the sniffing...?

Thinking to try it for himself, Zurg took a few hearty whiffs and promptly regretted. "Ick..." Ew, the aroma of swamp! He idly pawed at his grill in hopes of ridding his senses of that wretched moldy smell. And how... odd. Prixlezub's attention seemed to be split. How come?

"Keep close, we are under watch."

    Oh.

"Wonderful," Zurg commented dryly. Goody, they had a stalker in their midst. It was probably hostile, too... The smaller demon wasn't one to chance his luck, but if he was thinking to wind himself between Prixlezub's thick legs and stay directly beneath his underbelly... well, let's just say that the Demon Prince decided to make fancy with the magic.

Now, Zurg was a smart alien; he was quite brilliant with economies and politics, as well as knowledgeable enough with advanced gadgetry. What he was not intelligent with was magic, however. Whatever the Demon Prince had done, be it sorcery or some other variation Zurg was not adept in, something dispersed throughout the area and did away with... illusions? He cocked his horned head to the side, expression one of confusion - like a lost puppy dog. Okay, so... those trees had been fake? Huh. He rubbed his heated chin and figured to sit on his hindquarters, letting Prixlezub flex his arcane muscle. Or whatever it was that did the thing with the magic. Oh, hang on. What was that ugly thing glaring at them?

Zurg took one glance at it and casually puffed, "Nope." Nope, nope, nope. Double nope. He wasn't going anywhere near that weird monster-creature-thing! Like, just look at its beady little eyes, desiring to suck their innards out with its curved beak! He puffed again, tail curling reflexively as if to protect himself. "Can we just... tell it to bugger off?" he asked. "I mean, I sure didn't see a sign stating that this was their swamp." The easier answer was to outright kill it, but you know...

That would probably just make it angry and then make with the sucky-sucky.

There was a short, smoky puff as Prixlezub heard Zurg's response to the possible circumstances, slightly amused. his interest was more on the smaller demon's thoughts regarding the Nazaj'ir, however. "Yes, most likely. The relics and attempting to ascend their lady are the first few phases on the way to their endgame. Given the lack of surface activity, likely they are targeting other artifacts that are easier to obtain. If I am right regarding the possibility of an artifact being held in the Tz'tchotlan, they will go after it last when they have everything else that they need." Prixlezub reasoned, after all, if they have all the power they need to get past the city's defenses and any possible interlopers like their earlier expedition party, getting it would be effortless. A thoughtful rumble shook the air as the massive demon pondered upon the monarch's statement. "Yes, it may be more rewarding to simply see what was missed in the quarry." He replied after a short moment of thought. Not to mention a slight detour to the abandoned slave camp would take less time than seeking out each possible ex-slave that were in the camp.

Ick, wonderful, depending on one's views of the being that had been revealed with the demon prince's magic, either word may apply. Two of his fiery pupils remained fixated on the diminutive creature, no larger than a child, while the other glanced over at Zurg's rather interesting response to this unexpected delay. "It likely is not pleased with the damage being done with our passing." Came his calm reply, looking at the seething little creature as it started hissing at the both of them. However, as much as it may wish to suck out their innards, souls, or what have you, the prince hardly felt it worth the trepidation that Zurg was putting forth.

"You'll only encourage it if you keep that up." Prixlezub rumbled, stepping towards the green, shelled creature of the swamp. Given that this diminutive being likely would not pay heed to their reasons for uprooting each and every tree that came to be in their way, and the numerous counts of boiling its neighbors alive, Prixlezub decided it would be best to skip negotiations altogether.

    FWWOOOSSSH!

There was a brilliant flash of white flame and searing heat, the pool that the creature had been standing in moments before instantly evaporating into a column of heated steam, the trees around it searing and sparking aflame from the heat alone. With it, the source of their problems had been reduced to ash and a cloud of code. As soon as the flash of white flame had erupted from the prince's jaws, it quelled, night reclaiming the area once again. "Let us keep moving." The prince rumbled, "The jungles are not too far away."

And with it, the path to their awaiting teryllium.

Turning away from the charred pond, Prixlezub resumed his position as head of their expedition, and quickly worked himself in a thunderous trot.

Eh, relics and ascension... Couldn't this world just keep it together one measly solar cycle!? It was apparently too hard to ask. But he supposed - a teensy bit - that he really ought to ask for a safe and smooth passage out of the swampland. It would be more relevant, considering. Zurg tossed his mane and kept his many eyes trained on the... er, whatever it was that stalked these lukewarm waters, undoubtedly irate with Prixlezub's stomping around. Speaking of that...

    FWWOOOSSSH!

"Welp, there goes that little problem..." grumbled the monarch. Strike one hissing bog denizen down for the count, reduced to super-hot ash and luminous code. Zurg had half a mind to gingerly poke a curled talon in the creature's remains for the sake of his own curious stupidity... Ah, but the Demon Prince was already gallivanting off, hopefully for greener, more solid pastures. And ones without hissing little green bowl-headed creatures that hungrily wait to suck one's soul out from their anus. "Coming, coming!" he said all too eagerly. Those organs were going to stay right where they are, thank you very much.

And so the smaller of the pair followed, his tail faithfully swaying side-to-side behind him as Prixlezub yet again set their brisk pace. Time to see just what all this fuss about jungle kingdoms was about...
