For a moment, the alien thought that Fear's imitation was a real grunt, glancing over at him with a raised brow. Nnn...? As he went on, however, the alien felt a nice ball of dread make its way into his chest. Oh no. No no noooooo...

Judge Fear wrote:"It meansss you get to assssume the posssition and ssstart all over. Down!"

"MMMMmmmmm...!" His arms were like jelly as they fell away beneath, the alien letting himself fall back down to the grass as his muscles had so pitifully begged. Right now, he didn't even care about the dew! The alien merely rubbed his face into the dirt and let out a whine to match Metus'. "Huaaagh..." Well. Definitely a noise of some kind. So that was two push-ups wasted, was it? He needed to get the bulk of them done while he could still move his arms, before the cold got to him too much. And there were two push-ups wasted! Alas, they weren't going to get complete if the alien continued whining into the grass, now were they?

Wearily, he re-positioned his arms, legs stiff and finding a good foot hold, and the alien pushed himself up off the ground, though still in the 'down' position. Maybe he just needed a mental checklist of what all he needed to do! Up when Fear says, down when Fear says, and he had to count! Easy! Though his arms protested otherwise...

    Oh yes, Kev.

"What isss thisss, a make-out sssessssion with the grassss?" Judge Fear loudly heckled. Given the sheer intensity of his otherworldly voice and its booming reverberation, anyone within a mile would have heard Kev being chastised. "I don't have all day, cadet. Get off the grassss and assssume the posssition. You've got a penalty to make good on." Until then, however? The alien wasn't going to see a lick of his actual training until he fulfilled his ten perfect push-ups. The Dark Judge wouldn't settle for anything less, and again he let Kev tremble for seconds - ten seconds. Hate him all you want, cadet, but it builds character. Pleased, he rasped, "Up."

Alright, Kev. Time to apply all that you've learned. Unless, of course, you actually want to spend three hours doing nothing but push-ups? That can certainly be arranged.

Make-out session with the grass...? "Sir, no sir, this is not a make-out session with the grass." With the loudness and intensity of his voice, you'd think the corpse was performing a stand up routine. As it was, his only audience was Metus, the animals in the barn, and the animals in the cottage. Nothing that could really appreciate such heckling. Except maybe an owl. The alien was hurried to get off the dang grass and get into position, which he did without any complaint. Though he did stare deeply into the grass and question everything. All of this for being one minute late. Alas, such was the case with the Breach. The past week and been so nice, after all. ...Light drama with Sonia aside. Surely, the bit of happiness Kev had been able to snatch and hold in his hands was now needed to be taken away like a ball in a playground. Oh sure, the happiness would return once these months were over with! But until then...oy. This was going to be a long road.

Those ten seconds did give Kev a thought, though. A nice little thought. After going through all of this for the next three months, taking down Ridley was going to be that much nicer, now wasn't it? It would already be great, to cut down that bastard and keep him from ever rising to the power and position of ever harming the Breach again, but after all of this suffering...to finally kill Ridley and know he had done it with his own hand! A hand guided by Fear but still his own hand! Surely, that would be worth it.

Once commanded, the alien pushed upwards again, and as soon as his arms locked into position to hold his body weight up he hissed "One!"

And would you look at that, Kev actually managed to complete his very first push-up.  This was naturally cause for celebration and who was Judge Fear to skip out on it? "I think I jussst ssshed a tear, cadet." Ah, celebration sarcasm. Was there truly anything better? Why yes, there was! "But you are not out of the woodsss yet, cadet. I want to sssee thossse other nine pusssh-upsss and I want to sssee them right now. Down." More push-ups, that's what!

And so the joyous cadence was repeated nine other times: the Dark Judge with his sadistic count and the alien with his impeccable ability to not muck up in the process. Very good! Though if Kev yearned for the sun to languidly peek over the horizon and bask him in its uplifting radiance... Well, there was a bit of unfortunate news heading his way. His push-ups, mistakes included, had only taken roughly fifteen minutes. That left another forty-five before dawn's first light! Perfectly cognizant of the fact and still not letting the alien change this morning, Judge Fear knew of a method that would keep the alien's mind occupied: pain, pain, and more pain. It was a classic back at Law School. "Front and center, cadet," he demanded, pointing to a spot four meters ahead of him. "Now that you have massstered the ancient waysss of pusssh-upsss, it isss time that we begin your training. Firssst, we ssshall ssstart with dynamic ssstretchesss."

A bit of a paradox, that. How was a bloody corpse going to dynamically stretch? The ghoul could barely bend at the waist without his spine sounding like a firecracker on Bonfire Night. Not to worry, however. He had a plan.

"Your twiggy armsss make me weep, cadet, and I don't like weeping," Judge Fear hissed. "For one minute, each ssset, you are to rotate your armsss in the following sssizesss: sssmall, medium, and large. If you can't get thisss right, then that isss what you will be sssaying for the ressst of your missserable life. You will do thisss forward and you will do thisss backwardsss. Armsss out, palmsss down, parallel to the earth. Begin!" And just so the alien didn't get smart, an incoming psychic intrusion wormed its way into the alien's squishy mind. Pay attention, Kev, because that is how you do arm circles!

Celebration sarcasm. You know what, he'd take it! It was better than nothing. At least it was some form of celebration, right? The mental image of Fear shedding a tear was also pretty funny...too bad he actually couldn't cry. However, doing one perfect push-up was not Kev's job right now. Tear-inducing push-up or not...he still had nine more to do. As directed, he bent his arms and went down, back down into the grass. The next few minutes continued in this cycle. Pushing up when told, moving down when told, and counting his push-ups. Now that he had figured out what he was supposed to do, the next nine push-ups had went more smoothly. Well, as smooth as it could be when you were freezing and your arms weren't used to moving like this. As soon as the count of ten had been given, Kev's eyes trained over to the horizon. Those push-ups felt like they'd taken an hour! The sun was going to come up now...right...?

Judge Fear wrote:"Front and center, cadet,"

    Aauuuugh...

The alien picked himself up off of the ground and shuffled his way over to the spot, as directed by that talon. Four meters in front of the ghoul, the alien rubbed at his arms, rolling his shoulders in an attempt to make the soreness go away. Ooh that was going to hurt in the morning. Now they were to begin training, were they? After all of that, Kev had forgotten that the push-ups were a punishment for being a minute late, not 'really' part of his training. Dynamic stretches...? Muscles that made a grown ghoul weep? Judge Fear was a fan of sarcastic crying today...

As Judge Fear gave his instructions, the alien cast a curious glance at his own arms for a moment. Dynamic stretches that were comprised of making arm circles? That was different. Never done anything like that as an exercise! But it had to be easier then the push-ups! Right? Any shlub could make circles with their arms! Extra instruction came in a psychic communication, showing exactly how these arm circles were intended to go. Size and direction. The alien spread his arms out, palms facing the ground and arms parallel to the grasslands. Once prompted to begin, Kev began to spin his arm forwards in small circles. Kev didn't possess neither an invisible watch nor a psychic one, so Kev counted to 60 himself before widening his arm circles.

"Mmmm..." The circles were pretty easy at first, but the longer he was doing this, the more it was starting to really hurt! Here's hoping the next exercise was one for his legs...his arms needed a break. 57, 58, 59...the rotation widened again, Kev's arms spinning in a circle like a pinwheel. Ironically, doing the larger circles were easier since most of the spinning was in the shoulders. Silence grew between the two as the alien finished the set, arms almost falling to his sides like limp noodles. Unfortunately, he was not done! Now to do it backwards...his arms began to spin again, backwards this time, and back to the small circles. Well...at least it wasn't push-ups!

Judge Fear was also an avid fan of watching underlings (of which Kev now belonged) break out into literal and metaphorical sweats. He was an even bigger fan of them dying in the grueling process. In any event, arm circles. Contrary to popular belief, the alien hadn't failed the exercise with flying colours.

For six long minutes neither of them spoke; Kev was too occupied with doing his arm circles and the Dark Judge was too occupied staring into the alien's soul with the usual intense gaze. Metus had been the only one to make a sound, quietly huffing into the wet grass as the dog occasionally flitted his drowsy eyes between master and friend. This silence was nerve-wracking for the poor pooch, but it fortunately didn't last forever. "Mm, that isss good enough," hissed the ghoul, motioning for Kev to cease his first exercise. No sassy or caustic remark this time, so the alien must have done something right. "Do your armsss feel like putty, cadet?" As if he really needed to ask. "Now we move onto your sssecond exercissse: leg ssswingsss. You will do five sssetsss of ten for each leg." Well, at least Kev got his wish. Only problem was, now his legs were going to feel like limp noodles!

"Begin, cadet." Still no sunlight yet...

Once the ghoul deemed Kev's arm circles to be 'good enough', the alien's arms dropped from the air with a grateful groan. "Thank the Gods..." Kev's fingers twitched idly while the arms dangled, feeling as though large weights were attached to his arms and dragging them down. Numbness bit at the muscles, thankfully distracting him from the cold. "Yes, uh, Sir! They do feel like putty!" At least this feeling meant that by the time this training was over, his arms wouldn't be as noodley! The thought was definitely a nice one, though the tingling feeling made the alien wince anyway.

As he'd suspected, the next exercise involved his legs! If his arms could speak, they'd be crying out with joy! So he needed to...swing his legs? "Like a pendulum?" Kev asked, glancing down at his legs. He could do that, right? That sounded...easy! Five sets of ten though...and for each leg? 50 leg swings per leg, then? The alien took the brief pause as a chance to fix his cape from where he had been doing circles, moving it back to cover his shoulders and provide a bit more protection from the cold. Once prompted to begin, Kev spread his arms outwards slightly, looking much like a penguin, to balance himself. His right heel was dug into the ground as he raised his left leg off the ground and began to swing it back and forth in a wide arch.

He didn't have to keep track of time, this time, he just had to count the swings of his leg. He figured it'd be better to do one set with one leg, then move to the other leg to do the other set, and back, would be best. Once his leg swung back and forth for the tenth time, he switched legs. As he continued on however, it was apparent that this wasn't so easy. Switching legs was harder, having to support his weight with one leg after working out was a little painful, so as he swung his legs he took to rubbing at his hips, the pain in his arms having died down by this point. Despite it though, he continued on, mentally urging the sun to get into the sky as he worked. How long did it take the pesky thing to rise?! The alien huffed a few times as he finished up the last sets of ten for each leg, the same tingling numbness that had been in his arms now traveling through his legs. He almost dreaded whatever he was going to have to do next...

"And do pendulumsss ssswing, cadet?" You have your answer.

As the alien was soon discovering, exercises were anything but easy. Sure, sure - ten of this and ten of that didn't amount to anything, but fifty? A hundred? Two-hundred? It was no laughing matter! Nevertheless, Kev had managed to complete his second exercise and earned the right to proceed onward with his training. "That isss enough," Judge Fear at last rasped. "You have sssatisssfied thisss portion of your exercisssesss. It isss time to move onto one of my persssonal favouritesss: perp squatsss." If the Dark Judge sounded extremely pleased about something or other, Kev could bet good money that it was certainly nothing in the alien's benefit. "It isss rather sssimple, cadet. Ssspread your legsss ssshoulder-width apart and angle your toesss outward. I want your back ssstraight, ssshouldersss even, and do not bend your kneesss passst your toesss. I'll be watching, cadet. You will do three sssetss of ten - begin." The fun didn't stop there, however.

Looking to make due on his promise about keeping a vigilant eye on the alien's posture, Judge Fear left his stationary corpse pose and began circling around Kev in a slow, observant manner. Like a hungry vulture trailing a dying creature in its last precious moments, except a vulture wasn't nearly as unnerving. Metallic links softly jingled against one another as the ghoul made his attentive rounds.

All it took was one mistake, Kev.

    Just one.

"I think so, Sir!" Pretty sure they swung at least. Maybe if Kev was lucky, the swinging of his own legs could be like a pendulum, and every swing could bring him that much closer to the sun rising up into the sky...as he performed his last swing, Judge Fear deemed that to be enough, the alien letting out a breath of relief. Both legs were now stiffly flat against the grassy floor, though the alien was doing his best impersonation of a marionette in his attempt to not flop down or find the nearest place to sit. Now his legs were the jelly limbs!

"Perp squats?" He looked to Judge Fear, perplexed. Sounded like he was going to be squatting on a perp. No wonder Judge Fear seemed gleeful...he hated perps, after all. Though Kev wasn't sure he wanted to be squatting over someone, law-breaker or no! "Alright, Sir..." Sounded a bit more complicated then just swinging his legs...hey, at least he wasn't gonna squat over someone! The alien glanced down and awkwardly spread his legs until the space between his legs could comfortable fit someone's shoulders. Toes pointed outward, back straightened and shoulders stiff, he gave a cursory glance downwards. Don't bend his knees past his toes? So he basically had to keep his knees and everything below that point stiff? Three sets of ten...thirty! He could do that!

Once prompted, the alien began, thigh muscles clenching as he brought himself down until his thighs were parallel to the ground, and then bringing himself back up. There was one! As he started to go down for the second squat though, he noticed that Judge Fear was no longer standing off to the side. He was no longer a far off observer. Now he was circling like a shark, eyes trained to catch any mistakes Kev might make. Quiet as death, except for the slight jingle and clang of his metal chains. Needless to say it was certainly intimidating...the alien's brows furrowed as he completed his second squat and began his third. He could already feel the burn, so he took his time with these squats. No rushing here! If he rushed he might make a mistake...and the Mr. Circling Drill Instructor would swoop down and punish him with more push-ups.

Did his circling make you nervous, Kev?

"I want that back asss ssstraight asss a board, cadet."
"Your kneesss are bending passst your toesss, cadet."
    "Hurry it up, cadet."

From squat one to squat thirty Judge Fear barked, nitpicking at each and every little thing he could justify an excuse to voice. Was the alien's back really out of line? Was the alien's knees really bending past his toes? Was the alien really taking far too long? No, no, and no. Kev was honestly doing a very good job for his first set of squats, but the Dark Judge wasn't here to offer kind words and compliments. He was here to get under Kev's skin - to really make the alien sweat. "You call thossse sssquatsss?" he continued to deride. "Ssshow sssome pride, cadet. You are an embarrassssment." Feigning disgust, the ghoul motioned for Kev to finish his count and yet again stand at attention. "Enough, enough. I do not think I can handle much more of sssuch a sssorry disssplay." Right, then. Time for the next exercise.

"Let usss hope that you perform far better with your leg lungesss, cadet." Sounded rather self-explanatory, but it was never wise to assume when one's training instructor was a centuries' old spirit hellbent on wiping out all life. "Handsss behind your head, one leg in front," Judge Fear demanded. "Lean forward and do not pusssh passst your toesss. If I catch your knee touching the grassss, cadet, you will ssstart the count over. Three sssetsss of ten, begin!"

Well, the circling mixed with the comments on his form were definitely making him nervous. Kev's eyes trained onto Judge Fear, watching as he circled and critiqued his form. Every comment made him second guess himself, his back straightened as much as it could go, straighter than if a rod had been jammed inside of his spinal column. When told that his knees were bending too much, he readjusted his form to compensate. The next few sets, he tried to keep his knees in one spot. When told to 'hurry up', he hurried it up. As soon as his thighs became parallel to the ground he bounced back up into a semi-standing position, and began squatting back down all over again. "I uh...I s-suppose not?" Though they looked like some pretty fine squats to him. Kev's head tilted to the side when told to show some pride. Embarrassment? An uncomfortable feeling made it's way up his spine, eyes flickering down to his form as he squatted again. How could he show more pride? He puffed his chest out experimentally, though Fear then began to wave a hand and insisted that he couldn't bare to see anymore. Thankfully he had done all thirty of the squats anyway, so with a sigh of relief, the alien stood straight once more.

"Leg lunges..." His legs were going to hate him by the end of this...he sighed and nodded his head. "I'll try, Sir!" Hm...Fear didn't like the word try. "I mean I will!" Possibly? Hopefully... As instructed both hands came to the alien's head and folded behind it, elbows up in the air. The instructions this time were a little harder to figure out. One leg in front, and lean forward? Don't push past his toes? He cast a confused glance downwards before experimentally putting a leg in front of himself, and leaning forward. Aah, so he was doing a different sort of squat! As his knee lingered downwards, the temptation to rest his knee in the grass was almost palpable. The alien's leg shivered before coming to a stiff stop, not touching a single blade of grass. Now the hard part...getting back into standing position. "Hngh...hnnnngh!" He strained, shaking a bit more now as he silently urged his toes to push. After a few tense moments, the alien began to push himself into his previous position. "This one's a hard one Ju-I mean, Sir!" Kev corrected himself quickly before turning his gaze back down to the grass and going down once more. His legs were yearning for a break...his everything was yearning for a break! And they still had at least two more hours of this to go. Down, up, two...down, up, three...

Judge Fear had just been about to sternly correct the alien until Kev hastily backtracked. Good save, good save... That was, of course, before Kev made the rookie mistake of saying his leg lunges were hard. The Dark Judge eagerly pounced. "Too hard?" he hissed, tone rising due to aggravation. "Did I jussst hear you sssay that your leg lungesss are too hard, cadet?" Uh-oh. "I'll give you hard. For each leg lunge hereafter, you are to hold your posssition for five sssecondsss. Not a sssecond lesss and not a sssecond more, and do not let me hear you complain about anything being too hard." Weakness is not to be tolerated. It is to be rooted out, eliminated at the first indication and starved!

Suffice to say, Kev won't ever make the same mistake twice from here on out.

    Uh-oh.

Judge Fear wrote:"Did I jussst hear you sssay that your leg lungesss are too hard, cadet?"

"N-no Sir! I didn't say they were too hard, Sir! I was merely commenting that they were hard! Not too hard at all, the c-correct amount of hard! Yes!" The alien winced, hoping it was a good save, particularly since it was mostly the truth. Unfortunately, Kev's fate was sealed the moment he used the word 'hard'. To make it 'properly' too hard, Judge Fear decided to make it so. The next 27 lunges, Kev was to hold his position for five seconds. The fingers laced behind Kev's head tightened as he lunged again, and after making sure his knee wasn't going to hit the grass...he began to count. "One...two...three..." Again, his leg began to shake, the alien gripping onto his head a bit as he prepared himself to push himself back up again. "F-four...!" Oh Gods oh Gods oh Gods this was awful. "Five-!" He pushed himself up, nearly falling over in the process, and began to pant. No time to recover, however...he lunged forward with his leg, repeating the process.

    That's right, Kev - pant.

Every shiver, every precarious wobble, every moment of agony; it was all very delightful. Twenty-seven grueling leg lunges were practically a treat to the starving sadist. Amazingly enough, however, the alien had managed to complete his exercise without resting his knee onto the grass. Don't expect a consolation prize, though. "There," the Dark Judge cooed, "wasss that ssso hard?" He let the antagonizing comment sink in for a bit, ghostly eyes plastered on the alien's scaly head. "Not bad, cadet, not bad. Now do the sssame on the other leg." And yes, that is with the five second pause each lunge.

Once he'd struck the last lunge, the thirtieth lunge and holding it for 5 seconds, the alien's arms felt to his sides once more, and his lunging leg shook beneath him as he put his weight on it, standing straight and normal. Kev did not notice that the Judge was simply relishing every struggle that this exercise was putting him through, though he wouldn't have exactly been surprised to hear that Judge Fear enjoyed it. Especially from the tone of his voice as he spoke up again. Was that so hard? Yes, actually. Yes it was, though the alien dared not say that. Not after last time. Instead, he shook his head. "N-no Sir, it was the appropriate amount of hard, Sir!" He even threw in a little salute!

Judge Fear wrote:"Not bad, cadet, not bad. Now do the sssame on the other leg."

Only for his arm to wilt like a dead flower. For a brief moment, Kev could see it in his mind's eye. Giving up, letting himself flop down on the grass. Becoming one with the grass. Never getting up again. Just falling down on the grass like a limp noodle, letting everything fall where it may. But of course, he could think up five reasons why that would be the worst idea in all existence. Suck it up...suck it up for 30 more leg lunges! Maybe then the sun would rise...hands folded neatly behind his head as Kev took position, the other leg in front now. The lunge was a bit shakier than the other ones were, especially when it came to lowering his other leg. The urge to just drop his knee down on the grass was even higher than before, particularly during the first count of 5. Though as soon as he hit five he pushed himself back up and kept his 'mouth' shut about how hard this all was. Just 29 more...
