Truth be told, Tatl was also a little confused as to why Sheik had not got a bottle of water heated up for himself yet. She knew that by now, any of the four of them were just fine to stay in their cursed forms for a little while even if they didn't have to, but to her, it was usually easiest to change any of them back all at once as opposed to changing back in turns. Then again…

Link raised his eyebrows slightly as Sheik met him with a sheepish expression just before he smiled softly at his friend's answer. The idea of waiting for a little longer between splashes – quick drying nature or not – made perfect sense to him, and he fully understood how the disguised prince might want to settle a bit more from the thoughts that had previously gnawed at his subconscious. It might have sounded silly to some, but just being able to sit and relax for a bit before changing forms made perfect sense to him… he of all people understood that.

"That sounds like a good idea," noted Link. The aspect of settling was part of why he hadn't changed back as soon as they entered the cave, and he could respect that Sheik might want to stay in this form for a little longer regardless of the fact that he was at least still a Hylian. "And… I understand. I'm just glad you're all right, and… that we can both settle here." The cave might not have been as cozy as other spots in the forest, but aside from being dry, it was far from uncomfortable.

Sheik's smile warmed slightly at Link's agreement with his reasoning behind not changing back just yet. As the disguised prince had long since discovered, his cursed form was not a bad one. Yes, it was a little different than the body he was most used to, but regardless of the fact that he was able to remain the same species, he had to admit… thus far, having been able to turn into a boy, even if it had been unexpected and by way of a curse, had not been a bad experience. In retrospect, he was glad for the chance and for the temporary nature of it… the only truly bad part about it, the same as Link, Link, and Impa turning into animals was that it was a curse. Every curse had a cure though, and if Link had been able to lift the curse from the Skull Kid back in Termina, if the plague of Phazon that had inflicted Kev and so many others had been eliminated, then something as benign as this could certainly be tackled.

Much like Link was glad that he was okay, Sheik felt the same sentiment for his friend. With a brief glance to Tatl – one that silently thanked the fairy for her own presence here – the disguised prince looked back to his friend, stating, "I am, as I hope you are… and me too."

Although the day had been a good one so far, with the unexpected rain that had caught them on their return trip, Tatl was glad that they were all able to get a chance to relax and settle here too. Link and Sheik deserved it, and she herself was happy to just get out from underneath the rain. They could carry on soon enough but for now… with a bob back to the disguised prince at his nod, she thought to herself that this was good.

"Yeah… I am," noted Link, nodding slightly to Sheik. Regardless of the fact that the two of them had a chance to take a much-needed breather, just being able to relax and spend some more time with his best friend was definitely nice. Though it would have still been nice for the rain to hold off until they had returned to the inn, at least it had not been that bad, and at least they had not been separated during it.

A comfortable silence settled over the cave, and after a while, as the two Hylians continued to watch the rainfall just outside, Link steeled himself as he moved to carefully place his left hand over Sheik's right. They might have both been okay, but he felt he could still give him that comforting gesture.

At catching Link's nod and positive response Sheik smiled a bit more, humming slightly in contentment before he glanced back out towards the rain. The two friends had been correct to trust their instincts as far as the others' well being went, but all the same, it was still nice to confirm that they were both in fact all right. It was just a summer rain after all, and curses or not, it was nothing they couldn't get through. They would make it through this weather the same as they would through this spell of being cursed, and as ever, everything would be okay.

As a pleasant lull settled over the two of them, Sheik noticed that even Tatl appeared to be relaxing some more. Hopefully the rain would start to let up before too long, but whether it did or not, the break they had managed to catch here had already wound up proving even more beneficial than he had hoped. As far as other helpful things went, Sheik perked up a few moments later as he felt a soft weight settle on top of his right hand. He had left it resting against the floor of the cave, and a quick glance from his red eyes showed just what he had thought: Link had placed his hand on top of his. He was… trying to instill further comfort in him. The two of them were perfectly okay, but even so… the disguised prince could not help but chuckle softly.

Even though he was transformed, even though he was in his disguise… his best friend still wanted to help him in this way. It was enough to cause traces of sheepishness to edge into the grateful expression he wore, as although he appreciated the gesture, he couldn't help but ask…

"You know I'm a boy right now, right?"

Link's expression relaxed ever so slightly when he caught Sheik's appreciative look, and he was glad to see that the comfort in his gesture had come across just as he had intended. They were both completely fine, but it was still nice to see and feel that they had both got to feel better from even that point. He was not surprised when the disguised prince let out a soft chuckle; what he had not expected though was the simple question he had posed to him.

Blinking as the words echoed in his head, Link couldn't help but think that although he did know his best friend was currently a boy, that that state of being had not really crossed his mind. He knew that Sheik had transformed the same as he knew what his best friend's disguise was… even with both of those facts, and even with the one that they had both recovered from another brush with their curses, that had all been at the back of his mind. No, something far simpler had been on the Hero of Time's mind as he expressed this sentiment, and barely a moment after he had blinked, he smiled a bit more before answering.

    "I know you're Zelda."

Sheik most certainly felt the comfort that Link was trying to convey here, and although his best friend's thoughts had not caught up to him in quite the same way, he still hoped that his own presence here was helping him as well. He had a feeling that it was, as the two of them tended to have that helpful affect for each other by simply always being there, but no matter the circumstances, he was always grateful for it.

With his appreciative chuckle and subsequent question asked, Sheik watched Link's expression carefully. He knew that his friend did not mind trying to help him regardless of his curse being active much less his current disguise, but as part of their dual recovery from the sudden rain, he could not help but sate his curiosity with his sheepish question. No matter what Link's response was, he knew they were both fine, but even so… it was soon the disguised prince's turn to blink once the Hero of Time answered him.

Blinking a second time as Link's words echoed in his head, Sheik could not help but think of just how… him such a response was. Regardless as to which disguises or forms any of them took, what mattered was that at the core, they were still themselves, and that was exactly who his friend had focused on. He was not surprised at all as he mulled it over in his mind, but the positive effect in those simple words had still been enough to stun him slightly.

That was completely momentary though, as a second later, Sheik's smile returned in full. Turning his own hand over to gently grasp Link's, he stated, "… yeah, I am. And no matter what, you're still you. … Thanks Link."

Tatl was not at all surprised that Link had decided to try and comfort Sheik even though the two were most assuredly fine now. What she was surprised by though was the sheepish yet valid question that the disguised prince had asked here. Of course Link knew that he was a boy at the moment… didn't he? No, of course he did, but what did that have to do with anything? Sure, they were both boys right now, but what really mattered was who they were on the inside… all three of them knew that.

It was then that the Terminian fairy realized that the question was just as much out of curiosity and mild playfulness as it was out of the duo's continued comfort for each other. That much was confirmed even more at Link's answer, and Tatl couldn't help but pulse her glow a bit in pride at his response. That was her companion.

Although his soft smile remained, Link was admittedly the slightest bit nervous as to how Sheik might take his response. It was the truth, and even though he'd uttered his friend's real name, they were in a place that it was safe to do so. Whether either of them was in a disguise or transformed, what mattered the most was who they were on the inside. They both knew that, and as Sheik returned his smile once more, the Hero of Time let out his own soft chuckle.

As the disguised prince moved to take his hand and hold it, Link was almost positive that his cheeks were starting to feel just a little warm… a moment later though, he was more aware of the way that he broadened his own smile at Sheik's words. They were both still them, and they always would be… that was what mattered more than anything.

Giving Sheik's hand a soft squeeze, Link noted, "Thanks… and… of course." They would see their way past these curses the same way that they would see themselves past this rainstorm. Regardless as to how long either lasted, the Hero of Time knew that they only had bright and brighter times ahead of them, and he was more than ready to pursue those.

Sheik's expression softened a touch as Link moved to gently squeeze his hand in response to it being properly held, and with a steady nod in response to his words, he simply sounded, "Mm." Although he had already been feeling much better from where he had got caught in his own thoughts, the disguised prince was feeling even better from that now, and deep down, possibly even better from when the two of them had first set out this afternoon.

A comfortable silence settled over Sheik and Link for a few moments as the two continued to sit there holding each other's hands. Even Tatl appeared to be feeling the slightest bit more relaxed now, and that was saying something as she had been the most at ease once they had ducked into the cave. She had not been pleased about the rain of course, but at least they had all managed to get a little bit of downtime that they themselves had not been fully aware they needed. Even when one was truly fine, sometimes, just the chance to sit down and relax could prove unexpectedly helpful.

A few moments later, Sheik gently squeezed Link's hand in return, just before he looked to his friend, stating, "I think I'm about ready to change back now."

Link smiled a bit more at catching Sheik's expression, just before the two turned their attention back to the rain outside of the cave. They watched it continue to fall as their conversation reached a comfortable pause, and around it, Link couldn't help but think to himself that even if they were not still cursed, there was no one else he would rather caught out in the rain with than Sheik. He always enjoyed his friend's company, and no matter what they were going through, knowing he… she, Link, Impa, and each of the fairies was there for him was an immense comfort.

Some time later, after even Tatl had begun to settle a little more herself, Link perked up slightly as he felt Sheik gently squeeze his hand back. His smile brightened slightly at the gesture, and he soon looked to meet his friend's red gaze, just before his expression shifted into more of a soft grin at the disguised prince's words. He was fine with whichever form Sheik wished to stay in so long as he was comfortable, but hearing him voice his readiness to change back only made him feel even better from where they had already aided each other.

"All right." With a strong nod to him, Link moved to reach into his Hyrulean storage space with his right hand, soon pulling out a bottle of water and holding it out for Sheik. He was pretty sure that the disguised prince probably had at least another bottle full of water on him – and even if he didn't, they could easily collect enough rain to suit their needs – but after he had already used one of his to help him change back, he was more than happy to offer one of his bottles for him. "Here you go, Sheik. You can use this one."

Sheik smiled a bit more at Link's nod to him, just before he raised his eyebrows slightly once his friend moved to reach behind his back, just as though he was reaching into his own Hyrulean storage space. A moment later, the disguised prince's eyes widened slightly as his friend produced a bottle of water, soon holding it out for him. He was not surprised at all that his best friend had a bottle on his person, as ever since they had been cursed, they had each striven to carry at least one bottle of water on them at any given time, the same as he was not surprised by this kind gesture. All the same though, whilst he had been more than ready to pull out his second bottle of water to change back, he certainly appreciated this kind sentiment, and the simple action spoke volumes to him. It meant far more than he could say, so for the moment, he simply smiled to the Hero of Time and took the offered bottle with a grateful nod.

As the disguised prince let go of Link's hand and uncorked the bottle, he shifted his focus to it as he began to heat it up the exact same way he had the previous bottle. As he used the fire magic to get the water warmed up, Sheik kept a careful watch on the water itself as he did his best to keep a good feel for the temperature change through the glass. Even with the bandages around his fingers, he was able to tell when the water had reached the proper temperature range, and once it had, he moved to lift it up over his head. A deep breath later, Sheik had closed his eyes and poured the bottle's contents over his head, soon sighing in relief as she felt the instantaneous change take place.

Now that Sheik had changed back thanks to the refreshing cascade of that splash of hot water, she soon opened her eyes and shook her head slightly to take care of a few of the excess drops of water. Somehow, having waited to change back made the sensation of returning to her true form even more welcome at the moment, and even though she was completely fine in either form, she was still glad to have been able to reverse the curse so easily.

Replacing the cork on the bottle, Sheik looked to Link and smiled a bit more brightly to him, and a moment later, the two exchanged a happy nod. As she carefully placed the bottle back in his hands, she in turn placed her right hand on his left shoulder, just before she closed her eyes and leaned forward, very gently kissing him on the cheek. The disguised princess lingered there for roughly a second before she pulled back with a slightly shy smile, re-opening her eyes and catching the boy's gaze before she stated, "Thank you, Link."

Although Tatl had fully expected Sheik to pull out a bottle of water for himself to change back into herself, she was as unsurprised as she was proud of her partner for offering one of his own first. That alone had the chance to turn this already sweet exchange into an even more tender moment, so for the time being, the Terminian fairy hung back slightly, more than content to observe the two friends as the disguised prince was set to change back.

Link returned Sheik's smile, his own expression soon brightening a touch as he caught his nod of gratitude. Once his friend took the bottle and began to heat it up just as he had done for his own bottle, the Hero of Time watched in silent fascination, thinking to himself that although they were all used to magic of all sorts by now, some displays of it never got old. Once the bottle of water had been properly heated, Link's eyes followed it as Sheik moved to lift it over his head, just before he poured it over himself and reversed the curse. Link managed to suppress a happy chuckle at catching the very subtle difference in Sheik's voice once she let out a sigh, but he did grin slightly; after all, their transformations might have been rather different, but he certainly understood the relief that came each time one of them got to return to their true forms.

The way the disguised princess' expression seemed to relax told him just about as much as that relieved sigh did, and as she shook some of the extra water droplets from her head and met him with a brighter smile, his own smile broadened. Returning her nod with one of his own, Link soon found his bottle placed back in his hands, but in the time he had glanced down to his item, he wound up blinking as he felt Sheik place her hand on his shoulder. No sooner had he perked up slightly from that than did he go very still as Sheik in turned leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. The second that she held the kiss seemed to last much longer than that, and as she pulled back, Link could feel his cheeks starting to get rather warm as a slight blush appeared across them… still, he did manage to blink once more even through his surprise, and as he tried to come back from his moment of being stunned, his smile returned in full force.

There was a hint of disbelief in his smile now, but all the same, Link was very happy to have received that kiss. He was fairly certain that it was as much out of gratitude as it was affection, and as he turned to look to his best friend, he met her gaze with a sheepish albeit content expression. Even as the blush lingered on his cheeks, his smile brightened at Sheik's thanks, all he could manage to articulate was a simple, "Mm." The two of them would always be there for each other, and that exchange was just the latest proof behind that fact.

Sheik did not fail to catch Link's blush even before he turned to look back to her, but even though she was not blushing in turn herself, she did feel the slightest warmth across her cheeks as well. She had hoped to convey her gratitude to him for being there, for providing the bottle of water, for helping her sort through her own swirling thoughts this afternoon, and simply being there for her in general. Her gratitude was only part of what that gesture had held though, as the other major part of it was the general idea behind kisses in the first place: the chance to show affection. She cared a great deal for Link, and although they had been fast friends in Hyrule regardless of their shared destiny, she was very glad that the two of them had continued to become even closer. Fate might have landed them in this world instead of their homeworld, but so long as they were together, that was what truly mattered.

The same stood for Impa, the future Link, and each of the fairies… and just as they always triumphed over whatever challenges met them, so too would they be able to free themselves of their curses.

Another comfortable silence settled as the two friends looked from each other back out to the rain, and after a couple of minutes, the disguised princess raised her eyebrows as she noticed something. If she wasn't mistaken… "Hey… I think the rain might be starting let up some."

Just as Sheik cared for him, Link cared a great deal for the disguised princess. That in addition to his personality in general were the two main reasons that he had wound up blushing at her kind action. Thankfully, he as pretty sure that his blush wasn't too prevalent, and even if it had been, Sheik did not seem to mind. As it was, he was happy to sit there with his best friend for the next while, even before the two of them turned their attention to the rainy forest just outside the mouth of the cave.

Tatl was glad to see that somehow, the two Hylian kids had gotten to feeling even better than they already had been. It was reassuring for her as well, and more than anything, she was pleased at the upswing in the mood that had settled over the cavern. Link and Sheik might have been fine, but it was always good to have an outlet in spite of that, and the two had certainly provided each other with one that they might not have fully realized they needed. That should help out once they got home, and hopefully, that chance to return would not be too far away now.

Link perked up as Sheik started to speak again, and as soon as she noted that the rain seemed to be letting up, he realized that his own observation had been right. His mind hadn't been playing tricks on him; the rain really was lightening! "Yeah, it looks like it! Hopefully it will continue to do so!" After all, the sooner it let up, the sooner they could continue their trek home!

"Mm." Sheik nodded in full agreement with Link, for although she did not mind the rain if they had to contend with it no matter what, it was always nice for it to be lighter, and even more for it to wind up stopping all together. That was true before they had been cursed, and it was especially true now for this day in particular. The disguised princess scanned the sky carefully, and before too long, through the cover of trees, she was able to see that a few of the clouds ahead were in fact lightening up. This did not mean that the sun might peek though, much less that the rain was stopping just yet, but it was certainly very promising.

"Judging from the clouds past this clearing, it just might. Shall we wait to see if it does before we set out again?" Sheik figured that that was still their plan of action, but she still felt it was nice to double check with Link and Tatl before continuing to stick to that mindset.

Link was happy that Sheik agreed with his sentiment; he had a strong feeling that she felt the exact same way, but hearing her simple, positive response boosted his own mood further. Her nod only punctuated that, and although he and not minded their stop in the cave, the way that the sky was gradually lightening soon found his own spirits brightening further.

As the two kids tried to peer out past the main treetops, Tatl flitted a bit closer to the top of the mouth of the cave, looking over the sky herself. Sure enough, as the two of them had begun to feel even better, so too had the sky begun to clear more. The timing was pure coincidence and nothing more, but it was still very fitting… and maybe even a little sweeter than she’d initially felt it might be.

As Sheik openly pondered the possibility of the two of them waiting before trying to head back out again, Link looked to the disguised princess, his own smile broadening slightly before he nodded. “That sounds perfect. If we wait just a little longer, then we should have an even better chance to make it home. And we still have a cozy spot here in the meantime.”
