Names upon names appeared the further the undead lawman delved, faces soon joining them. Two were reminiscent of the medic that his brother had come across, even though they seemed... Different. Admittedly the bright red medic looked a little more well put together than those two. Livewire was also a familiar face along with the one known as Skyler. Keaton and Mr Zim however... They did not register with anything he and his brother had encountered on this planet to date. Others flooded his mental presence as well, but they were of little importance.

Thus, this line was cast aside, mental tendrils removing themselves as he focused back onto other matters. His search regarding the pale-haired immortal came up vague. A disappointing but expected result, after all, what would a child as well protected as she know of the goings-on of the underground? As for Leo and Alex, well, there certainly was a plot twist. At once the foul-mouhted man had been a werewolf, how he got better though was a mystery that this child apparently did not have the answer to. Leo on the other hand was an ex-officer...

For a moment the ghoul's claws clicked thoughtfully upon the table's glossy finish. The man may not have much power anymore, but citizens tended to remember those who had protected them. Perhaps he could be useful to them as well, only time and ambition would tell. Once again the ISO's were brought up, but little was known about them. In fact the child had never even come across one in her life. For the best, perhaps. If the ISO's had not seen her, likely they were also unfamiliar with the girl and therefore it would make her usefulness all the more challenging to track.

    Yes...

Now if only there was a way for his brother to not give him weird looks should he decide to go through with this method of gaining information. At the moment Judge Mortis accepted the girl's proposal of reading with him, she moved the chairs about and quickly had her own that was placed up close to his. The girl would soon find the ghoul's presence was none too pleasant, what was bearable at a distance quickly becoming nauseating at closer distances. There was no psychic method of hiding a corpse's stink, decay and death thick on his emaciated person.

Once settled, she opened the book and tilted it so the undead Judge could see the pages, and for the moment, merely out of politeness, Mortis set the magazine down on the table. Even if she did see it, he was not about to to worry about the girl making something out of it.

Never Going to Live This Down wrote:"Baa Baa," said Lamby. "What a pretty day."
"Baa Baa," said Pamby. "For sure, the sun is bright."
"Baa Baa," said Namby. "For sure, the grass is green."

Ah, yes. Now was the time to humor this... Lamby Pamby Namby. Content to stay silent through the reading, he merely tilted his head as if in interest to the book while he kept an eye socket on the article he had been reading prior. Those occult symbols and ritual sacrifices were hard to keep him away from.

What was the the saying? "It's a thankless job but someone has to do it?" Surely Mortis was familiar with this given his line of work, now all he need do is apply it to the ex officer and Mortis was sure to realize that no one was going to be thanking anyone. People did not like people who told them not to do illegal things.

Ttone crinkled her nose at the smell coming from Mr. Mortis, it was pretty bad. Maybe he should shower? He smelled a bit like garbage and the zombies that appeared that one time. Was Mr. Mortis dead? Was he a vampire like Aya then? He couldn't be a zombie, he wasn't trying to eat her brains after all. Ttone chose to be polite and ignore the smell.

"But," said Lamby. "What is that on the hill?"
"Baa. Baa," said Pamby. "For sure, it has grey fur and fangs."
"Baa. Baa," said Namby. "For sure, it has eyes that burn."

"Baa," said Lamby. "It is a wolf!"
    "A wolf!" Cried Pamby.
    "A wolf!" Cried Namby.

And so Lamby, Pamby, and Namby ran to the forest,
The wolf right behind them, nipping at their tails."

They did not need to remember him fondly, only to remember him. Whether it be through disdain or fear, likely one of the criminals upon this accursed rock had a bone to pick with him, or another viable reason the man could be used. Either as bait, a host, or an informant, the living were useful for few things aside from being Judged. What criminal would not wish to take an opportunity to take a pot-shot at the one who had oppressed them for so long?

However, the ghoul did notice out of the corner of his eye the crinkle of the girl's nose. Much like one who had taken in a bad smell. It was no mystery as to who that smell was coming from, Mortis knew perfectly well that his host was not exactly the epitome of perfection or cleanliness. Thus as the girl showed discomfort at being near his sickly presence, the ghoul gave a polite tap of his talon upon her shoulder, a suggestion quitely hissed upon the still air of the library. "You do not have to sssit ssso clossse." A little gruff, admittedly, but the girl would understand. "I would ssstill be able to hear you if you sssat a little further away." As for her thoughts, the ghoul's mental attachment still allowed him insight.

Of course, he was not a vampire, for he had no interest in, nor could he be physically able, to sustain himself on blood. To say he was dead though was a partial truth. However, he was hardly going to deny his natural reek of decay, much like roadkill that had been left to bloat in the sun for too long. Even his chilly presence could not suppress this fact, even though the icy aura of his being began to spread further with every moment he lingered within the library's chair. If the child was not repelled by his odor, likely she would be by the cold that started to slowly drill into her skin.

He was only thankful, for her sake of course, that she had not deduced he was a zombie for very obvious means. Devouring brains was a nasty habit, unsuitable for a Judge of the Law no matter how twisted. Now, about those lambs...

Apparently after a moment of bleating and having to describe certain characteristics of what was upon the hill to each other, they soon deduced it was a hungry wolf. How cliche, but this was a children's story after all. He sat quietly and listened, one socket reading the rest of the magazine while the other distractedly looked down at the illustrations of the picture book. Say, that wolf looked rather threatening despite the fluffy and soft style of the imagery.

Fine with him, although he was hoping that the woolly group would meet a bloody end soon.

Ttones skin was beginning to get goosebumps, had the librarian turned the air conditioning all the way up back here or what? Ttone shivered and did her best to politely ignore how Mr Mortis' smell made her stomach sloosh around.

Mr. Mortis wrote: "You do not have to sssit ssso clossse. I would ssstill be able to hear you if you sssat a little further away."

Ttone looked up from the pictures of little lambs running away from the giant, terrifying looking wolf. "But how will you see the pictures?" Pictures were important in stories like these, they helped set the tone, plus Lamby Pmaby Namby had really lovely pictures! All painted and colorful. Who wouldn't want to see something like that? Ttone turned to the next page to reveal the three little lambs running past a lumberjack, only for the wolf to attack the man and swallow him whole! A lack of gore, but the wolfs giant maw full of teeth was pretty off putting.

The touch of undeath was never kind to the living, as clearly demonstrated by Ttone's adverse reaction to the Judge's presence. Ghastly chills that brought nothing but bumps and shivers, which no amount of warm embraces could thaw. Certainly the girl had chosen an odd creature to entertain this afternoon, although the ghoul had to admit she was rather dogged in her goal to read the book to him. However, he only hoped the child would not grow so queasy that she tossed up her lunch or perhaps breakfast all over the library floor.

Defacing public property was a serious offence after all, and Mortis hardly considered himself part of a cleanup crew.

At the girl's wondering at how he would see the pictures, the towering being merely rolled his wrist and replied, "Sssimple. You can read the text, and once you are done you may turn the book around to ssshow the picturessss." An easy fix for dearest Ttone's story problem, no? Likely she had already seen this acted out during story time at school, maybe even a children's event. If this was not satisfactory enough, however, the ghoul went on to give another possible method. "Or, you may read the ssstory and I can imagine what isss happening on the pagesss." It would be a trait she would learn later on when she began to read books that -gasp!- had no illustrations at all to speak of.

In the meantime, Mortis's gaze was drawn to the image of the three sheep running past what appeared to be a lumberjack, all dressed in plaid and jean suspenders.  Such a powerful man should certainly be able to fend off a lone wolf, correct? Alas, such was not the case as the illustration clearly depicted the man being devoured whole as the wolf ran past. Even with the lack of gore, despite the image's simplicity it managed to bring a smile to the ancient creature.

At least inwardly. Outside, his face would retain that same skeletal grin no matter what his mood was. Much to his surprise he found an interest, a slight one, to see just how much carnage the wolf racked up along its chase to eat the three sheep. of course, the incessant urge to go back to his research pulled at him, but such thoughts were pushed aside for the moment. It was only a children's book, certainly the research could wait for a few minutes or so.

It felt like her skin was crawling, as if tons of little bugs were on her skin and walking around on it. Mr. Mortis seemed nice though, surely he wasn't smelling on purpose. No, he probably just needed a bath or something. It wasn't his fault. Ttone felt bad for how her stomach rolled and her skin crawled and silently ordered it to stop. Be nice to Mr. Mortis, he had been nothing but polite! He was even being polite right now, offering to let her move away from him, not to mention helpful. He gave several solutions to the whole illustration issues.

She supposed that she could move away and just turn the book around to show him things. But it just seemed a little impersonal, a little rude. And the last thing that she wanted was to be rude! "Are you sure you wouldn't mind? I don't want to be rude or make you unhappy."

He was currently her new reading budding, unhappiness was the last thing that she wanted. Especially when introducing someone to Lamby, Pamby, Namby.

Yesss, let the malaise flow through you...

Much like the rotten, undead creature he was, Judge Mortis merely sat there while Ttone shuddered from the chilly aura he produced. Unfortunately, a bath would not help the ghoul's situation any, no matter how hard he scrubbed there was no amount of soap that could clean away the rot from his body. In fact, the added water would likely accelerate it. If Ttone had ever come across a desiccated corpse after a heavy rainfall, she certainly would be familiar with how strong the stink of a rotting corpse could be. Even so, her thoughts were open to the Dark Judge's mind, and he could not help but find it odd that she wished to be polite and did not even give a mental complaint about his presence.

Even so, despite he apparent innocence now, she likely would become just as criminal as the rest of this world. As criminal as her mother deciding to let her wander around the library without supervision. Public places were open to every and all ways of life to meet, and not all of them were sparkling examples of law-abiding citizens. In fact, none of them were! Despite the ISO's keeping vigilant watch over the city, there still were crimes abound within their jurisdiction. The unfortunate 'accident' between Alexander and Nyreena was only one of possibly hundreds if not thousands of unreported crimes. Alas, even the ISO's were only as good as the information they held at hand. Not that Mortis could complain, it certainly kept them from getting in the way of carrying out their laws to be sure.

Once more the child spoke up, still wishing to know if Mortis would be comfortable with her sitting further away. "I would not have ssssuggesssted it otherwissse." He evenly rasped, his bony tail slowly curling from side to side. "Go on, find a ssseat and continue." He encouraged.

With a being that was offended by the mere presence of the living alone, fretting about whether or not he could see the illustrations of a child's book was the least of his concerns.

Can't the malaise not flow through? Couldn't warm snuggles and happiness flow through instead?  With Mr. Mortis' final permission Ttone moved out of her chair and to one a few seats down. Now this was a little better, not nearly as chilly as the seat next to Mr. Mortis. "You're not cold?" She asked sitting down, how could he stand the cold, it was freezing in that corner!

Looking down at her book Ttone began to read again.

"And so the little lambs ran through the woods.
Past the tall trees and bushes filled with round berries.
They passed a lumberjack in their stride.

    "Hide hide hide!"

They cried. But it was too late.
The wolf came down through the tall trees
    And ate up the lumberjack.

Unfortunately, there was no choice but to have the malaise flow through, it was as natural as his corpse-like smell. Finally the girl had moved away from him, but not without a final question regarding his well-being. "Do not worry, child." He replied, shaking his skeletal head. There was no concept of discomfort from trivial things like the cold in death, thus he retained his usual, awkward seating position. His legs and arms far too long for the chair he was seated in.

Having settled a few seats away, the girl returned to read her book aloud to him. From the sound of it this particular rhyme had to do with the illustration he had seen earlier, a simplified description for what had happened to the lumberjack. At the mention, the ghoul could not help but give a quiet, rasping chuckle at the man's fate. Eaten alive and whole by a wolf. Although he also had a small wonder as to how and why the wolf had managed to get into the trees when the sheep were running around on the forest floor. A mystery that will likely never be solved if the book was as simple as he thought it to be.

Even so, he had to admit he liked where it was going. Thus, he did not interrupt and left the girl to continue reading the story.

Having Mr. Mortis' blessing Ttone took to her seat and stayed in it without another complaint. Mr. Mortis was okay with it, so what was really the point in fighting it? She could sit here and everything would be fine. Turning the book back around Ttone once again began to read aloud.

" The three little lambs ran through the woods.
Through the tall trees and bushes full of berries.
The wolf not far behind them, until they came to a river.

The Three little lambs braved the waters.
They passed a fisherman in their stroke.

    "Hide! Hide! Hide!"

They cried, but it was too late.
The wolf had already reached the river.
    And gobbled the fisherman up.

She finished and turned the book around so that Mortis could see the Fishermans grizzly demise.

    Yes, everything was just fine.

Now that the child's worries had been quelled, they could return to the gruesome and gripping story of the three little lambs. During their retreat from the wolves, they ran through the woods, past berry bushes and trees, then to a river. A deep one, since the trio had to swim across and met a fisherman along the way. A commendable effort, but the wolf was hardly frightened of having to cross the river in his effort to catch the sheep.

Much like the lumberjack, they advised the fisherman to hide. A foolish notion, for like the lumberjack's fate, the wolf also devoured the water-bound sinner. Served him right, from the look of the illustration the man was fishing in a non-designated zone. Thus, the water-logged sheep were once again ignored to instead feast on the man before the wolf moved on to keep chasing his prey. With their swim across the river, the sheep's wool must be quite heavy, perhaps they would drown before they reached the other side? A pleasing thought, but the ghoul knew better. as with most children's stories, the cute and fluffy tend to win over the mean and scary.

Thankfully that was never the case in reality.

Though given the wolf had eaten two full grown men in just two pages, the ghoul was beginning to wonder how many the wolf was going to devour before it grew too full to keep chasing the small flock. In fact, two strapping men should by all logic be more than enough to fill the wolf's belly. Regardless of this conundrum, the ghoul merely crossed one leg over the other and leaned back in the plush chair.

With his towering height, he could see quite well over the edge of the book's cover and see the inside pages without Ttone's assistance. For a short moment he leaned forward just slightly, attempting to see the next pages. Let the slaughter continue!

Ttone continued to read steadily on, making sure not to trip over her words and to pronounce everything properly.

"They ran on and on, and the further they ran
On and on the wolf chased after them, eating everyone in between.
He ate the Butcher and the Baker. He ate the Tailor and the Midwife.
He at the Teacher and her children. He ate the Mayor and the Constable.

Then Lamby, Pamby, and Namby ran by a Witch.
"Where do you run to in such a hurry?" She asked.
"We run away from the Wolf! For he wants to eat us!" They replied.
"But you cannot run forever." Said the Witch. "No one can, and
Where you go he follows and eats all in his way. You must stop
Running and face your enemy, or he will never leave you alone."

"Then," said Lamby, Pamby, and Namby. "Can you help us to fight
The Wolf?" They asked. And the Witch conjured up her magic and turned
Them into three giant Dragons, with scales like armor and fire in their stomachs."

Quietly he listened as she read on, her comprehension skills rather well developed for one her age. Then again, the undead lawman came from a simpler time, schooling was not all that it had been back on Deadworld, and surely not as early as it was for little five year old Ttone. If she did go to school and was not mentored by her adoptive mother. All the while, the wolf within the story continued to run about after the sheep, eating bakers, tailors, myors and even law enforcement on his rampage to try and devour the three ewes. Or what he assumed to be ewes.

Finally they came across a friendly witch, already the ghoul starting to make some parallels as she turned them from three fluffy sheep into three massive dragons. Was it not the case with battling the war against crime and iniquity? Nausea and Phobia had essentially done the same to them in a way, turning he, Fear and Fire into three powerful lieutenants. Although the witch could just as well be their Chief Judge, in how he had decidedly mentored them with their philosophy. Much like how crime and unlawfulness devoured ever sense of peace and justice, leaving nothing but chaos and destruction in its wake, the wolf did so to in its rampage and thus needed to be stopped. Regardless, the ending was clear with or without Ttone's further reading. The dragons would likely fight the wolf and send him running with his tail ablaze, or ultimately kill him and in some ridiculous twist of fate split open its carcass and retrieve all of the people it had eaten, alive and well.

While little Ttone was busy reading, the ghoul decided to ponder what he had seen. She certainly knew a bit about her mother, along with a few other citizens that could be useful. Perhaps it would not be too outlandish to consider planting a few tempting thoughts within her mind, idle curiosities to encourage an already inquisitive nature. Thus, Mortis quietly and gently allowed his psychic tendrils to worm their way into her mind again, implanting quite suggestions that while now would be easy to overlook would be all to frustrating to ignore once she was back home.

...Where did Tally take the plants? They really looked colorful and pretty, perhaps it would not hurt to see a few of them again. They can't be that dangerous, its not an animal that could bite and scratch.

...What sort of things does she make with them? I bet she makes pretty things with them.

If there is another place where she took the plants, Tally probably knows where it is... Even if she does not wish to say.

Quietly he placed them in the back of her mind, like seeds to sprout at a later date. Otherwise, the ghoul looked all too content with listening to the story. If one could make out any sense of contentment or otherwise from his skeletal face. Once finished, he withdrew himself from the child's mind just as silently as he made his way in.

Ttone liked to read, so it certainly helped. It also helped that Tally had insisted that she return to school after not going for several years. Mortis could be forgiven for confusing her age, him being so tall, surely she looked smaller and younger than she actually was. Ttone kept on reading, unaware of the seeds that Mr. Mortis was sewing in her mind.

"The three dragons took to the skies.
Their shutting out the sun. They found The Wolf, gobbling up
the candlestick maker. Lamby, Pamby, and Namby each took a deep breath
And set fire to The Wolf.

He turned to ash! But not all was right, their flames burned too hot.
The fields, the meadows, the homes, the castles. From the mountains to
The Sea everything burned and turned to ash.

Left alone the three dragons cried, their tears turning their hearts cold
Their bodies turned to stone, standing guard until the end of time.

Ttone turned the book around to show Mr. Mortis the imagine. Three dragon statues standing in a barren land of ash. The last page of the book however was of a simple little green sprout, pushing forward from the grey earth. A message of hope no doubt. "What did you think?" She asked, curious to know if he had enjoyed the book.

Alas, the poor three had burned the wolf too much in their goal to rid him from the world. The flames spread to the fields and village, turning the place to ash and apparently killing everyone that the wolf had not gotten to. From coast to coast the world had erupted into flame, and the ghoul, albeit unable to express emotion with his skeletal state, would have been smiling from ear to ear at the desolate landscape the three were left with. The lambs turned dragon however, were rather mournful about having no fields, mountains, castles and villages. In fact, so much so that they cried until they turned to stone.

In a way, their fate to stand guard over a wasteland until the end of time was like Deadworld. Although Mortis and the other lieutenants were hardly sad about it. With no one left upon the planet it was so peaceful, so serene! There was no crime, no citizens or criminals to give them any trouble. The economy was stable as there was never a rise or decrease in anything, housing was plentiful and above all it was quiet. So very, very quiet.

Quieter than this library even. Thus it could only be fathomed that much like sinners, they could not live without life all around them to complain about, to corrupt with iniquitous action and in the very same motion praise it for being so wonderful and miraculous. The Dark Judge gave a small grumble at that, which quickly turned to a cough as he realized Ttone was still sitting in front of him. Right! The story had finished.

"That wasss a very nice ssstory." He complimented. "Very interesssting."
