Don't smile just yet, dear Olabisi...

Oh? wrote:"You're not Zs'Skayr. Who are you?! Show yourself to me, your real self!"

"Ha ha ha..." A throaty chuckle escaped the hooded Ectonurite, his bony face cracking into a serrated grin. "Of courssse I am not the ghossst-creature," the doppelganger replied. Shouldn't that have been obvious? A thick lisp became increasingly noticeable in the alien's raspy voice and Zs'Skayr began to flicker, the world all around them steadily becoming darker and darker. A familiar smell permeated the air, the nauseating aroma of death, and one by one the buildings of Anur Transyl faded away... The burning sky in all its exotic colours bled into a muddy brown and seeped downward, the fires and casualties of war becoming nothing more than remnants of a bad dream.

    Darkness.

Darkness is what greeted the Thep Khufan, as the injured alien stood upon something... green and pliable? What happened to the cobbled roads of Anur Transyl? Her feet marginally sunk into this unknown earth, the land crinkly and taut like hide, but the mystery would not remain unsolved for very long. It simply could not, for the ground trembled as a large shadow draped over the entire area; in the murky distance winked two faint lights high, high above. As bizarre as the alien's surroundings were, her investigation will have to wait. An incredible force suddenly hurled the Thep Khufan onto her stomach, the unexpected escalation of gravity smothering enough to the point that breathing was a struggle. Wind violently rustled her frayed bandages and the young alien's hearing was barraged by howling gales, but as quickly as it had happened... it stopped. Silence consumed this enigmatic shadow-world, Olabisi no longer constrained to the supple ground. Silence... and light.

A bluish-white glow shined down upon the Thep Khufan, her world at last illuminated beyond a few obscure meters. She will soon wish that it wasn't, for the truth was far less comforting than its disingenuous counterpart. Again her world trembled, but this time she was privileged to know why.

Turn around, Olabisssi... Turn and face me...
The voice was overpowering - deafening. It shook the shadow-world like thunder and penetrated the deepest recesses of the Thep Khufan's mind.

Behind the alien loomed a towering figure, as tall as any mountain, and shapes weaved themselves to paint the image of a gargantuan armoured man. Broad were his shoulders, encumbered by both cloth and gleaming steel traps; together they alone spanned half a mile. A thick, lustrous chain formed the nexus between his polished badge and the plated gorget that protected an otherwise vulnerable neck; the former read in bold lettering: FEAR. Up above, higher still, was not a face but a great helm; its metal cast in a deep, rich ebony lacquer. And one that was as every much terrifying as it was ambiguous to the wearer within, bat-like wings serving as horrific embellishments. An otherworldly glow softly emanated from the visor's finely-cut grating and ocularia, the man's features indiscernible; as they ought to be. No echoes of breath, no sounds of life, nothing came from within it... Simply an ethereal gaze that could not be dissuaded no matter how hard one tried. If Olabisi was little more than a gnat in comparison to this man's size, the alien currently level with his chest, then...

Decrepit fingers twitched and the "ground" beneath Olabisi reacted accordingly, the Thep Khufan having been standing on this man's hand the entire time! If he so desired, the helmed figure could easily overturned his palm to let the alien fall to her death. A tempting whim, to be sure.

Very tempting. For now, however, the steel-plated colossus was content to remain deathly quiet.

There were simply far too many ways to dispose of her...

As the world around the frightened alien went black yet again, an overpowering stench of death left her coughing furiously and gasping for breath. The putrid odor was almost unbearable, this time powerful enough to nearly make her vomit. In a moment, Olabisi's surroundings were different. She should be happy, she should be thankful, right?

But the Thep Khufan wasn't happy, only confused. She now lie on her stomach, subject to very unfamiliar ground. The now very curious alien felt it over with her hands. It was unlike anything she'd every felt, so much like hide. Her eyes squinted as her new surroundings were illuminated by a painfully bright bluish-white light.

Turn around, Olabisssi... Turn and face me...

There was that voice again! It was loud and imposing, shaking the earth around the startled alien. Reluctantly, she turned to face her foe in his true form. Oh how she would come to regret that decision. The intimidating form completely towered over her. She was only chest level to the colossus, and could clearly make out the letters on his badge: FEAR. As his fingers twitched, a terrifying realization hit her. He was holding her in his hand!

Finally, the pain in her stomach and the shock of the situation became too much for poor Olabisi. She gave in to the overwhelming urge, vomiting all over the hand of the colossus. How positively flattering.

Ah, the odious stench of fresh vomit and unbridled dread... The Dark Judge welcomed such stimuli.

Olabisi was allowed to disgorge in peace and her terrifying jailer hardly seemed troubled. In fact, the gargantuan man appeared to be delighted in her abhorrent conditions. He spoke and the world trembled, the void at his each and every command. I have been obssserving you, Olabisssi... From the farm, to the forest, and even in the dream; the ghoul's attention was near omnipresent, and the Dark Judge had not approved of her meddling antics. You are disssressspectful and rasssh, encroaching upon propertiesss that do not belong to you. If I recall correctly, you have already been warned once to leave a particular piece of farmland alone. The ownersss' complaintsss are fresssh within my memory. A lie, but one that the Thep Khufan had no current way of disproving. A second hand came into view and it overshadowed the young alien greatly, one of Judge Fear's yellowed fingernails hovering mere feet above her head. If he so chose, the Dark Judge could have easily skewered the girl and be rid of her entirely. He did not, however. Why?

For your refusssal to obey the law and willfully committing the act of tresssspassssing, it isss within thisss jussst civil ssservant to sssentence you to our highessst punissshment: death. There were no repeals and there were no court trials. Judge Fear had spoken and his verdict was irrefutable, the ghoul not one to be reasoned with. That having been said, he did grant Olabisi a choice. You have two optionsss before you, he hissed, the smell of rot overpowering. Either you take your own life in whatever way you decide, or I take it for you. Ssshould you wisssh for the former, know that you cannot asssk for a ssslow demissse. It mussst progressss in a lawful and expedient manner.

How poetically ironic! For your troubles and desire to poke your nose where it didn't belong, you were handsomely rewarded with an arbitrary death sentence by someone who was miles out of your league. A death by your own hands or by the Dark Judge's - quaint!

    How do you plead, Olabisi?

Olabisi trembled like a leaf as the judge before her delivered his sentence, completely frozen in fear. She was going to die, she was going to die! This realization caused her to back away as fast as she could, only to be caged in by his massive fingers. It's not like she could have backed up more anyways, at least not without killing herself. In between the gaps of her captor's rotten fingers, she could see the fall that she would have to face. The ground was nowhere to be seen.

It was then that he brought a finger to her, one of his sharp, imposing nails hovering within a foot of her. The Thep Khufan was given a choice: Kill herself, or die by his hand. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She wanted neither, she wanted to live! But the mummy realized that there was no way out. She would have to choose. What would it be?

Olabisi stood up weakly, propping herself against the gigantic nail before her. She gulped loudly. No, she was too proud to give this beast the pleasure of killing her himself. She closed her eyes tightly, bracing herself before she ran on the nail. It impaled her through the chest! She coughed painfully, gasped, and that was it. Her body went limp, and the trespasser was no more.

    Squelch!

And just like that the Thep Khufan took her own life, death by impalement on the undead fiend's obscenely-long and grotesque fingernail. Can't say the Dark Judge was too displeased, for death was death, but did she have to make it so unsatisfying? Perhaps it was the alien's way of spiting her tormentor or perhaps she hadn't the courage to simply leap off. It truly mattered not, in the end. You have been judged, the ghoul hissed, sliding the girl's body off his fingernail as if she were a piece of unwanted meat left on a skewer. He rested Olabisi's lukewarm body upon the width of his palm and gazed down upon her, ethereal eyes making absolutely sure that the alien was not capable of some miraculous revival. When she did not and his senses declared her thoroughly deceased, the Dark Judge grew confident. With a simple teeter of his hand the alien's body plummeted to the void and Olabisi's bandages rustled in her descent. I now free you of your sssinful prissson, crimesss pardoned in the mercy of death. Rejoice, Olabisssi, and embrace sssalvation.

Steadily the darkness consumed all, the towering horror that was Judge Fear fading away into the abyss alongside everything else. As the dream collapsed and their mental connection crumbled, the sounds and smells of a nearby forest reclaimed what was naturally theirs: reality. A light mist coated the air and the whooping cries and shrieks of nocturnal animals filled the night. Nothing was disturbed, right down to a single toadstool, and it was almost as if... the shadows had never been there at all. What had happened, exactly?

In the midst of the fertile copse was a body, a frail and badly-drained shape of a young woman covered in tattered bandages; she did not appear to stir and required medical assistance. A great darkness plagued her mind and she would not last very long without a kind, helping hand.

You had chosen death, Olabisi, but it seems life was not finished with you...

    Through Osiris' Eyes:

Olabisi has suffered a traumatic mental blow and will be hounded by nightmares of a sinister helm and rattling chains! She is not dead, as her encounter with Judge Fear was entirely psychic in nature, but she is not well, either. Someone, anyone, needs to help her through this awful coma...

RPer Note: if you are not happy with this, Lorraine, let me know! I didn't want your character to die just like that.

Meanwhile, a man was out in the wilderness, pen and notepad in hand. With his eyesight the way it was, he had to conjure a ball of light above his head in order to see more than a foot in front of him. Oh how he hated the dark! At the moment, he was making note of the discovery of a patch of aloe vera plants on the map he had drawn. Perfect! The leaves of the aloe very plant were known to restore both health and stamina.

As soon as he finished jotting down his notes, something strange caught his eye. It was the body of an unusual woman lying on her stomach, seemingly lifeless. He approached the woman and shook her.

"Hey, you alright?" There was no response. He flipped her onto her back and listened for breathing. It was then that he detected the faintest spark of life. "You're alive!"

This woman needed medical attention, and fast. He knew that there was a hospital in the main city. There was no way for him to call for help, so he would most certainly have to carry her himself. He sighed. This was going to be a long walk. Without further ado, he carefully slung the bandaged woman over his shoulder, heading in the direction of the city.
