    Trespassing Violation

    ((happy Friday the 13th, betches!))

Ah, humans were such classy beings, weren't they, attaching such ridiculous superstitious stigmas to something as simple as a number and a day. Seriously, just what did they have against the number thirteen? Olabisi laughed to herself, lost in thought. Ever since the incident with the automotive AI on Monday, the mummy found herself to be getting progressively angrier at herself for not looking into the strange mojo surrounding the farmhouse. Screw trespassing laws, she was checking it out!

Was she scared? Oh, you'd better believe it. Night was falling, and she was alone on an isolated country road. The fact that she was alone on a country road was significantly more frightening than the darkness, though. The eyes of her species were perfectly-adapted to seeing in darkness. Yes she was scared, but her adrenaline was pumping, and that was just enough to push her onward.

Finally, she had made it to the farmhouse. Thank goodness the AI was nowhere to be seen at the moment! She was certain he would have chucked her away without a moment's hesitation. With the utmost caution, she made her way to one of the windows, crouching as she peered through the glass. There, she would await developments.

The only thing more classy than a human was a no good trespasser...
It was a quiet night for Friday the thirteenth, a swollen moon high overhead but lacking a perfectly good witch to complement its ominous glow. No black cats, no grinning devils, and no dancing corpses looking for a good monster mash. Still, calm, boring. Aside from the eerily lifeless farm and lack of slumbering animals, nothing really seemed amiss. Just a cozy two-story house and weathered barn out in the sleepy countryside. What could possibly be of interest in such an unassuming plot of land? Ah, if only the young and inquisitive little Olabisi knew. Her unfortunate tale will soon be told...

Every good story needs a proper beginning, of course. Dracula, the Wolf Man, even Frankenstein! Each and every one was not without a captivating introduction, but what about this one? How shall it begin? Certainly none of the classics entertained the thought of a mummy-like alien poking her bandages where they did not belong. Oh well, there was a first for everything. Best to start with something simple, something... tried and true.

Something like... a haunting. Yes, a haunting! And a haunting performed, mind you, by an ancient and disturbed evil. Olabisi, dear girl, it was time for you to know the true meaning of Fear...

It was overpowering, it was revolting.

Beneath the cool earth and sequestered from the living's unwanted gaze rested an old and atrophied corpse, its pose almost routine while seated upon its chair. For many days it had sat there and for many more it shall; a corpse, after all, needed not the concept of time. However, there was an unexpected... contradiction in the previous sentence.

Something had disturbed the peace - something foul, as nostrils twitched and worn bones cracked. It was the unmistakable stench of the living, this the corpse knew, and soon the air began to taste of death. Who dares encroach upon this just property and defile it so? Who dares to bring about the sickness of life while not paying respects to the true state of being? Roused, the corpse began to rigidly stir. A soft glow, as faint as a glowbug but as distinct as a candle's dancing flame, illuminated the darkness. Two ghostly eyes peered through the abyss and slowly drifted upward, unseen vertebrae loudly popping within a craning neck.

Such devious thoughts, yes... The intruder's mind was broadcasting itself with perfect clarity. There was the delicate rattling of chains as the corpse shifted within its seat, leather gently stretching. How to deal with this menace? This... undesirable? To reveal itself would only waste the element of surprise, and to act without decisive consideration would put many schemes in jeopardy. No, a direct confrontation was to be avoided at all costs.

Instead, let it try something... discreet.

Once more enveloped by complete darkness and no longer alert, the corpse lounged back into its seat and returned to rest. Physically it was no longer a threat, but spiritually... A faded hiss, like that of a cracked pipe, echoed throughout the farmhouse; nearby woodland animals perked up as the backs of their necks became raised. They knew what you didn't, Olabisi, as a nauseating breeze of wind tenderly brushed past you. Leaves rustled off in the distance as a pack of wolves bayed at the full moon.

Further away, where the moon's golden light could not brighten your path and reveal to you all the horrors of the night, came a low and baleful... moan.

The howling abruptly ceased and all became deathly quiet...
    ---

((I had honestly forgotten it was Friday the thirteenth until you said something!))

Nothing, Olabisi saw nothing, nothing but the pitch black of the house. No, there can't be nothing! She knew there was something crazy going on here, she just knew it!

As the Thep Khufan pondered, an ominous hiss resonated throughout the property, the ghastly sound echoing on the wind. Without a moment's hesitation, she darted behind the bushes as a pack of wolves howled nearby. The animals did not concern her, though. They were just animals after all. What did concern her was this awful, spine-chilling moan, a moan that even the wolves seemed to acknowledge. Spine-chilling indeed... The entire length of her vertebrae tingled, taut and on edge, the bandages that made up her hair moving on their own accord, their movement further disturbing the bushes. She grabbed them, pulling them to her front.

She could not make a sound. Whatever that horrible moan was, it was enough to quiet even the wolves. There was someone, something out here... There was something out here with her, and she pissed it off! She shook her head, becoming nauseous at the very thought of it.

Don't let it find me... Please don't let it find me!

But there was nothing - at least in the house itself.

Away the timid alien darted into a nearby bush, her bandages producing quite the rustle. Whatever is the matter, dear Olabisi? You did, after all, muster up enough courage to make it this far into the night. Was not Friday the thirteenth silly human superstition? Maybe it was and maybe it wasn't; the wolves seemed to agree with the latter.

Several long and agonizing minutes ticked away into oblivion. Nothing happened during them. Still the house remained asleep, still the nearby woodland remained quiet. If there was anyone around, anyone at all, they were either away at the moment or slept like the dead. Could the poor alien be all alone out here in the dark and isolated countryside? Again a nauseating wind blew through her soul, the air tonight bitter and heavy with rot. Had something died nearby? It would not be surprising, given that this was a farm and there were natural predators logically drawn to it. Yes, perhaps this was - wait... do you hear that?

    Pant, pant, pant!

A shape rapidly darted across Olabisi's vision, her keen eyesight able to make out a bipedal form as ragged breaths could be heard. Two arms, two legs, a torso and head... Was it one of the farm's current residents? Whatever it was and whoever it was, their features were far too dark - almost inky. One thing was clear, however. This unknown individual had raced between the treacherous shadows that warped this foreboding landscape as if they were being... chased by something. Could it be possible that they were running from the very same thing that terrified the alien? She may never be able to discover the answer to this hair-raising question, for not long after the mysterious runner had vanished from her sight...

    "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
There, a scream off in the distance!

It lasted no more than two seconds, three at best, before the bloodcurdling shriek fell into silence. No one ran out from the enveloping darkness and once again Olabisi was all alone. Wait, look! Something was thrown, something... limp, and it lightly bounced across the open field. It noisily flopped to a halt not far from a certain bush, and if Olabisi was courageous enough to peer out from the safety of her hiding spot?

Bloodied and fresh, a detached arm is what rewarded her diligence. There was no sign of its owner or its butcher. A second moan hovered within the air not long afterward, this one much closer than before...

As Olabisi hid in the foliage, her waiting ears were greeted with the sound of desperate panting. Not long after, a human figure darted past her, a sense of urgency in his run. Was the man in trouble? Should she help him? Yes, despite her fear, Olabisi would help the terrified human. Just as she was starting to crawl out of the bush, however, she flinched backwards as an blood-curdling scream pierced the darkness. Perhaps it was too late for him?

That's it! That's why she never saw any people out here. Whatever it was on this farm... It killed them all! The mummy's thoughts were interrupted when her ears were met with the sound of something flopping onto the ground in front of her. Did she dare look?.. Yes, she did. She didn't have much of a choice at this point. She whimpered, defeated at the sight.

An arm, a dismembered bloody arm! The man was obviously no more. Whatever it was that she had been avoiding since she first arrived had killed a man, and by the looks of it, was coming for her next. Once again, the eerie moan echoed on the wind, louder and much closer than before. No, she would not go out like this, not like some pig at the slaughterhouse. No, she was going to fight!

"Come on, come on!" she shouted, departing from her precious hiding spot. Her hair bandages flowed about freely now, fists clenched. "I'm here! Come and get me!"

Is that so? wrote:That's it! That's why she never saw any people out here. Whatever it was on this farm... It killed them all!

That was quite the assumption with little facts supporting it.

Be as it may that perhaps the frightened alien could be right, she had no concrete evidence to solidify her claim. After all, where had the man come from? Was he truly an inhabitant of the farm or was he simply a traveler? No bodies were found on this property that pointed to a massacre, the same as how they could very well be on a vacation of their own. The original owners could have even vacated their residence for greener pastures. No cars, no signs of recent activity, nothing. There was nothing that alluded to a family having been so professionally judged. There was, however, something else...

"Grr..." Tired. Tired and hungry. A large dog, standing taller than most human children, sluggishly departed from the shadows. Great was its frame and posture, a proud head seated upon muscular shoulders. Its athletic build was meant for both the protection of its master and the hunt, yet this particular fellow had seen better days. The dog's coat was devoid of lustre and it left much to be desired in the ways of hygiene. Nevertheless, it was a mighty companion all the same and it had quickly spotted a defiant Olabisi. Again it growled, stooping its brow upon sensing this foreign stimulus to its surroundings.

Unlike a more aggressive breed, such as a pit or chow, the dog simply remained transfixed in its spot and issued a consistent series of gruff rumbles. Cautious, the dog approached and picked up the severed arm with its maw. It carried the body part away to a safe distance, around thirteen feet, and proceeded to sit upon all fours. There the dog began to eat while every so often pausing to stare at Olabisi.

At the moment it was uncertain of what to do with its new find, but give it reason...

A... Dog? Really, a dog? Olabisi highly doubted that this creature is what killed that unfortunate man, large as the beast may be. In her time, the mummy had never heard of a dog moaning in such a manner heard earlier. To her knowledge, dogs only growled, barked, or whined. At first, she shuddered at the sight of the large canine making off with the human's severed arm, but she assured herself that dogs were carnivores, and would typically eat any meat presented to them.

Slowly and cautiously, so careful as to not appear threatening, Olabisi approached the dog. She did not wish to harm the creature, as she was quite fond of pets. She did, however, remain on edge should the need arise. Her bandages still flopped about in the breeze, though less frantically than before. Once close enough to the dog, she reached out a quivering hand to pet it.

    "Hello there..." she uttered nervously.

Correct, a dog. This was, of course, not the source of the moaning heard previously.

When the alien drew near and thought to extend a hand, the dog immediately snapped its head up. It glared directly into her frightened eyes and released a low, hair-raising growl. No attack came, however. The dog was not of the disposition to outright lash out and disembowel this strange, unidentified intruder on the master's property. Nevertheless, it wasn't about to openly accept the alien's hesitant affection. Again it growled and the dog went back to guarding its evening meal, a broad tongue licking its blood-soaked chops. If it wasn't the one responsible for this disembodied limb, then who...

Suddenly the air became thick with rot; death followed soon after. What kept producing this awful smell? Up ahead and closer to the outer reaches of the property, something moved between the shadows... Something vaguely bipedal.

    Pant, pant, pant!

Look there, it was the hazy man from before! His silhouette kept further away, near the woodland's border, and he seemed to be stooped over. Was he wounded? Although it was hard to tell and the moon's light could only do so much, it appeared he was clutching his... side? No, arm! Or, rather, what could have been a stump of one. The dog detected his presence and instantly raised itself upon all fours, ears facing forward and perked. It, too, shifted its gaze to the shadowy figure and felt its hackles bristle. Not for long, though, as the dog soon whined and fled off into the night. For now it was gone, leaving the alien all alone with a limping onlooker. Whoever he was, he was injured. Injured and afraid, and he slowly backed away from what most likely resembled a walking mummy. He let out a startled whimper and turned tail, dashing frantically into a dark and spooky forest.

"H-Help, someone, please! Th-There's a monster after me!"

What, a monster? This poor man thought Olabisi a monster? Now she knew just how that human boy who crash landed on Anur Transyl must've felt, only it was the citizens who thought him a monster. For a moment, the alien turned back to inspect the area from where the dog had fled. Whatever was out there had the creature scared enough to leave the severed arm behind. Wait, the arm?.. The arm! Ola had heard that amputated appendages could potentially be reattached if brought to a hospital.

Normally in situations like these, the mummy would be much more concerned for the preservation of her own life, but her conscience simply would not allow it right now. How could she let a man possibly go through the rest of his life with only one arm? No, she couldn't possibly. Putting her own fear and disgust into the back of her mind, she picked up the severed limb, and would make chase after the injured man.

"Wait, sir, don't go!" she called out to him, running as fast as she could. "I don't want to hurt you! Your arm, I have your arm! I can take you to a hospital if you come with me! It might be able to be reattached!"

Yes, the air smelt highly of death, and the rancid stench was enough to bring tears to her eyes, but Olabisi was determined. She wasn't just going to let this man die.

((Apologies for taking so long, HNNNGH!))
Such a brave alien, going after an injured man she had never met before.

The chase took her deep into the forest, where the bush became overgrown with sharp briars and low hanging branches took every opportunity to tear at her bandages. Whatever tattered remains they snagged were cast to the chilly night wind. As for the young Thep Khufan herself, the shadowy man always remained two steps ahead. Deeper and deeper Olabisi must go, away from the civilized world and all its modern wonders. Faster and faster Olabisi must travel, the peripherals of her vision dotted with winking eyes and writhing figures. Where were you going... Where were you going that had you strung along through a forest you knew not? Down a path you knew not? Would you even be able to find your way back? Where were you going, child, where angels could not follow...

For all her noble and altruistic efforts the alien was led to a clearing; it was no bigger than a small field and perpetually dark. This was hardly troubling, however. Olabisi's eyes ought to see everything perfectly, including the limping man she had been chasing. What was troubling, and immensely so, was that the man's features continued to elude her keen sight. Why did the outlines of his body seem so... so one-dimensional?

Slowly the man turned, the air succumbing to a bitter cold.

    "He... he he..."

    And then it happened.

With an awful twist in his spine the man hunched forward, fingers transitioning into long and sinister claws. "Ola... he rasped, the shape of his skull stretching. "Ola... Olabisssi..." Soon all traces of being human was stricken from the man and something monstrous stood before the young alien. No longer playing the act of an injured party, the creature reared back its awful head and released a bloodcurdling -

    "AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNGH!"
You remember this sound, don't you? This was the moaning you had heard from before!

And it was not alone, for soon the entire forest awoke with similar cries. Dozens of eyes... No, hundreds, blinked from within the surrounding darkness as wicked things were heard rustling where Olabisi's eyes could not see. How? These were no mere shadows, child. An abyssal void cornered the alien in all directions, the forest floor draped in an impenetrable umbra. Even if her vision could pierce this hellish shroud, would she truly want to. Jaws snapped and talons raked the earth, dozens upon dozens of horrifying creatures shuffling in the frightful recesses of the mortal mind.

    "Olabisssi... Olabisssi... Olabisssi... Olabisssi... Olabisssi...

    Shades: idling, for now...

Olabisi stopped in her tracks. What was the man doing? He was laughing, laughing! What was so damned funny?! Here you were, running for your miserable life, and now... Wait. There was something different about the man. It were as if his body had lost all density, like he was some sort of drawing on paper. But that couldn't be, could it?

    "Ola..."

No... Don't finish that. Don't finish-

    "Ola... Olabisssi..."

Her name... He, no, it knew her name!

    "AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNGH!"

That moan! That was the moan she heard earlier! Oh no... That was the moan! She was now face to face with the creature that terrorized her since first arriving on the farm and it was not pretty. But it would seem that the thing was not alone. Soon the surrounding forest was alive with cries, blinking eyes all around her. They too were saying her name, mocking her.

For a moment, the alien did nothing but cower, her magenta eyes wide with fright, but her gaze eventually came to rest on the severed arm that was still in her hand. It was then that her expression of fear was replaced with one of anger, her hair bandages becoming active once again. She stood tall, facing the monster that led her here, betraying her, leading her to believe that it was a man in need. The mummy screeched, and in a fit of rage through the dismembered appendage at the beast. Will it do anything? Who knows? She didn't care. All she could feel at the moment was pure unadulterated anger.

Olabisi: Scared, but rightfully pissed. She tosses the arm!

In what should have been a daring act of courage became nothing more than a desperate gambit. Wobbly hurdling towards Olabisi's shadowy deceiver, the severed limb phased clean through her sinister foe and landed not far behind with a wretched squelch. "Olabisssi... Olabisssi...!" it continued to hiss, drawing low to the grass. Whatever this thing was, it was just like a living shadow! If the young alien could not harm it, much less touch it, how was she going to best this animated umbra?

Perhaps this was not the preferred method...

Despite her deafening shriek and fiery indignation, nothing Olabisi did thwarted her hissing audience. In fact, it only seemed to incite them as hundreds of shadow-beasts erupted from the forest! They came for her in droves, their inky forms and sharpened claws deathly silent. Beady winking eyes remained transfixed upon the alien and the shadows began to circle her like predators moving in for the kill. "Olabisssi!" they howled in unison. "Olabisssi!" they cried for her soul. Wickedly swift and unbound to the laws of flesh and blood, the shadows underwent a fluid transformation; bodies molded into rapid streaks, claws and limbs turning into blurs. An inky miasma surrounded the alien and there was little Olabisi could see past it. Save for the twinkling stars up above, her world was suddenly plunged into darkness. And a darkness, she will come to find, that could not be swayed with a measly half-chewed arm.

Deep within the whirling gale and at its center, a distinct sound reached the alien's range of hearing - chains. Thick and heavy chains rattled inside the tempest's raging walls and the smell of death was once more palpable. A pair of brilliant pinpricks stared out at her, ghostly eyes peering from the outside.

    Olabisssi...

This voice... It was not similar to the shades from before. What could it - look out, beneath your feet! Dusky claws reached from Olabisi's shadow and took hold of her, bandages and all, the sensation surreal. There must have been six pairs in all and they harshly tugged downward. Kick, punch, struggle; it mattered not in the end. The more she fought back the quicker she sunk into the murky pool, raven talons digging into her arms and legs. Olabisssi... Come and join usss, Olabisssi... We have sssuch fassscinating thingsss to ssshow you... And so they did, the shadows giving one last yank before forcing the alien beneath the Stygian surface.

    Down... Down... Down...

Down into the void you go, Olabisi, your conscious guided upon wings of night. Something took you, child. Something took you to a deep and dark place... Can you not feel death's icy embrace, metallic jingling and all? Come, child. Come, for it was now the eve of your final hour.

    Judgement.

Olabisi's mind has been seized, the young alien falling into a dreamlike state. When her mind awakens, she will find herself within familiar territory: Anur Transyl! Just what in the heck is going on and how come it is eerily quiet?

Olabisi backed away slowly, visibly shaking. It's like they're invincible! The arm simply phased through her target, leaving it completely unharmed. Now it was becoming certain. That move was a terrible mistake. It only seemed to further provoke the horde of malicious shadow creatures surrounding her.

They were closing in on her now, circling her not too unlike vultures around a carcass. But Olabisi wasn't dead! No... The alien grew sick to her stomach at the thought. What if she was soon to be dead? These creatures, they were going to kill her, she just knew it! She closed her eyes tight, embracing for impact.

    "Olabisssi..."

Wait, what was that?! This voice wasn't like the others, but who was it? Who could it be? The alien, of course, saw nothing, caring not to open her eyes. She didn't have much time to dwell on the matter, for she was sinking. It was a horrible, nauseating feeling, like being swallowed up by a giant plughole. The Thep Khufan started to cry, hoping and praying that it would stop. And then... Nothing. There was nothing but darkness and silence.

Olabisi awoke with a start, he own screams waking her. She was hyperventilating, and had to calm herself down before she could properly inspect her surroundings. The mummy couldn't believe it. She was back in her own bed, in her home on Anur Transyl! Everything down to the last detail was the way she had left it the morning she fell through the portal. Portal Breach... Could it have all been a dream, and the incident with the shades the conclusion to a terrible nightmare? She sighed. It was morning, and Olabisi had to go to work.

When she walked outside, however, she was greeted with an unusual sight, and an eerie quiet. Where was everyone?...

    ((It's a high-def panorama of Anur Transyl - a city, at least.))
Mm, how positively delicious the young alien's fear was... Whatever was the matter, Olabisi? Where had your previous burst of anger gone?

Indeed the youthful adult was back within her home, everything exactly as she remembered before succumbing to a certain blue portal. Shouldn't she be glad? After all, this was home! This was where she, a Thep Khufan, belonged. All was not right in Paradise, however, and Olabisi will soon come to realize that home wasn't what it used to be...

Upon the wind was a scent; an aroma of burning wood and musty linen. It came from the west, where the sky held a tinge of throbbing orange. Was there a fire nearby? Should the alien shake off her previous jitters and once more grow determined, she shall discover that the streets of Anur Transyl were painfully empty. Not a single glimpse of the Transylians, Thep Khufans, Loboans, or even Ectonurites. Had everyone suddenly packed up and left, or was there a big event that Olabisi was not aware about? Regardless, the orange haze to the west was the only thing worth investigating in this ghost town. Dare you venture forth through these lifeless avenues and see what is amiss? Come and see the final conclusion of this upsetting mystery...

Ahead and after a good five minute walk westbound, the inquisitive mummy's question will find its harrowing answer. At the edge of town was a massive pit; its circumference alone spanned a good ten miles, with Olabisi only to see a paltry slice of it. There was nothing special about a large crater in the earth, however. What truly ought to be noted was what rested inside it.

Citizens. Thousands upon thousands of citizes were what waited within, their bodies piled together so crudely, and they were all dead. Fires raged off in the distance from the burning wreckage of various weaponry and vehicles, the losers of this battle apparent.

    What had happened here...?

"What's this?" said a raspy voice, the sound of metal being brandished. One second later a knife-like edge cut into the alien's back and a rather unpleasant sight awaited her. "Yet another insolent Thep Khufan thinking to meddle in my affairs?" You recognized this unique set of skin anywhere, didn't you? It was none other than Zs'Skayr, a tyrant every much as cruel as he was ambitious! Eye narrowing, the Ectonurite's sharpened talons firmly gripped his scythe's snath. "Idiots," he snarled. The weapon's blade was thrust forward menacingly. "Even in death, those useless peons are nothing more than incompetent. I took great delight in ripping apart the rest of your sniveling kind." Did... Did he just admit to committing this senseless massacre!?
