    I So Enjoy the Dark

Post by Nessa on Sat Feb 15, 2014 11:38 pm

    February 15th, 11:00PM

Straying away from the ghettos for once might be a good idea. Stewing in the slums wasn't her idea of a good time. It was about time she went out to find... work. Or a hobby. Or something other than amassing her swarm of rats. As she walks the streets, her hidden children follow in her wake, crawling over trash, any people up this late, and eating anything possibly edible.

She reaches up to her hair and pulls the scarf taught across the dreadlocks, keeping the flow of hair out of her eyes and behind her back. She smiles, breathing in the city smells, noticing things that normal mortals cannot. The glisten of the drains, small insects buzzing across street signs hundreds of feet away, the scent of a tea shop and the leaking of an older vehicle's exhaust. Alright, so being weak wasn't so bad when you were in your true habitat. A street rat's dream, this place.

Nessa sighs and turns a corner to find herself in an alleyway behind a restaurant. Oh... a Feast. She turns to the dumpster and knocks on it twice. A good hundred rats come out of hiding, small black auras appearing for a split second before they climb the dumpster and begin their attack on anything resembling food.

The Piper turns to the wall and leans against it, unbuttoning her wool peacoat. The weather is cold, but sometimes the fabric overloads her sense of touch. Ah, to suddenly be newly Awakened again... at least it's better than the first time. Having all manner of pestilence crawl over her body again with such sensitive senses would definitely drive her insane again.

Suzanne pops out of the coat and crawls to her shoulder, squeaking once and blinking to the dumpster.

"Not hungry, little lady?... But of course you eat the best in this little posse. Soon you'll have your brothers and sisters serving you things on a tiny little platter." She chuckles.

    Suzanne makes an indignant noise.

Nessa sighs through her nose and reaches behind her to pull out her Flute, assembling it and putting it to her lips. The first few notes are barely audible, making the air waver around her like heat coming off of pavement, but slowly she brings long whole notes up in a scale, giving the alley a sense of tension. Anxiety. The rats in the dumpster eat more voraciously, as if sensing danger. But tis only an illusion. Nessa smiles through playing... even when linked to her, they have their instincts...

They've saved her once, those instincts. They'll save her again.

She continues her song, flitting notes that drop to low trills. The area seems gloomy. Bored. A trained and magickal assassin playing a concert for her own pets...

At least she's not bonded to anyone else.

They say that when the cat's away, the mice will play... Except, this time, the cat had never truly left.

Lounging about on a garbage pail with not a care in this digital world, sensitive ears picked up the unusual commotion that was Nessa, her rats, and her intricate flute. Typically no alley creature would take notice in her and her playing, as they had their own business to attend, but this? Oho, this... Golden eyes casually directed themselves in the direction their owner needed to be, and everything began to fall into place. With a quiet leap to the ground and a hurried strut in its gait, an inquisitive black cat rounded the adjacent passageway and soon observed. That's what a cat was good for besides napping, wasn't it? Studying its surroundings and keeping tabs? The content feline proceeded to sit upon its hindquarters and watch a tall woman play, eyes occasionally glancing down at the rats she seemed to command. There was now an outside audience of one, but perhaps that was not entirely accurate...

    "Purr, purr, purr..."
The cat just sat there, squinting every now and then, while continuing to listen as it loudly rumbled. Interesting how creatures of the night loved the darkness so... What will the woman do, now that a cat was before her ravenous flock?

At first, she was a little too into her entertainment for her to notice the smell of feline, however after the cat had touched the ground, her overdeveloped senses immediately picked up on the movement. She continues playing the song, letting the trilling notes rise higher, her swarm's ears perk up, turning to their Mother with inquisitive eyes. The majority of the rats scatter and start looking around on instinct, being creatures of caution and escape they were trying to find the easiest way out. A concept Nessa is all too comfortable with.

Her eyes flit to the side passageway, hearing the paws of the cat hitting the ground before it even rounded the corner. It's entirely too hard to sneak up on an Immortal. Barely anything surprises her, but then again, she's not exactly Earthbound at the moment. Her flute hits a low note and slowly drops lower in slurs, her rats fade from vision one by one until naught but only a few remain at the dumpster eating and Suzanne sits on her shoulders, sniffing the air cautiously.

As the cat purrs and appears on her side, she turns her gaze quickly to the front and slowly closes her eyes. Taking the flute from her lips, she dismantles it and stows it under her coat.

"It seems I've attracted an uninvited guest."

Her voice seems to fill the air, her hand brushes Carnwennan behind her back and her aura becomes unscented. No need to scare the little creature off. However... the cat seems entirely too normal. Nothing here is normal. Her paranoia was about to take its toll before Suzanne drops off her shoulder and struts forward, the other rats slowly closing in on the feline.

Nessa smiles to herself and walks forward, toward the creature.

"Did you come to join our dinner, child?"

Nessa's hands spread out wide, indicating her own children, and smirks at the cat. There could be a meal in both the dumpster and on those furry haunches... Her lovelies would appreciate the feast. However... being the master of magicks she is... she senses not all is as it should seem... but she can't quite put her finger on it. She hesitates just a moment, her rats stopping with her.

Indeed, nothing was ever as it seemed on Portal Breach...

The cat, for the most part, was far too content to truly be deterred. It had noticed the rats, yes. And it had noticed the creatures trying to dwindle the gap between them and the cat. All of this, even the woman's double meaning to her invitation, had seemingly no effect on the black feline's resolve. It did, however, plop onto its side and expose a warm belly to her. A keen pair of eyes, or maybe a dozen, will have no trouble in realizing that this cat was not wanting for food and drink. Even its coat held a lustrous shine, and its overall appearance? Immaculate. No cuts, no scars, no signs of infection; perhaps someone's pet, hmm? No collar was evident to support such a theory, oddly... Whatever the unknown specifics were, this amused puss looked up at its feminine host and curled its tail.

"Meow!" it loudly cried. Meow, meow, meow. The cat rolled and the cat played, delicate paws swatting at nothing while it fought an invisible foe. If the woman had so wanted and felt no remorse afterward, she could have very well told her horde to feed. This was a very naive cat, was it not? Yet again the furry predator waited for another reaction out of the woman, this time desiring something more... forceful.

What will you do, Piper of Vermin? Queen of the Dumpster Feast?

Nessa cocks her head to the side, her dreadlocks cascading down the side of her face. She smirks lightly. If anything this cat is definitely very cat-like. And despite her present company, Nessa actually doesn't mind cats all that much. Just another scavenger on the streets. But however... this one looks well kept, and shining fur, well fed. This is one cat that hasn't seen true hardship. She chuckles to herself.

    "Oh you're such a fat kitty~"

She walks forward, slowly and deliberately, and brings her head down to the cat's level. She continues to shroud her smell and aura, making her seem like nothing more than a human with a thing for rats and flute playing. The rats around her continue to close in, behind the cat now, completely surrounding it.

Nessa stretches out her hand and exposes her knuckle to the cat's cheek, inviting it to smell her hand.

"I bet your master takes good care of you..."

The rats come closer to the cat, gaining confidence with their numbers as they sniff at the feline. A few others starts grabbing at its paws and nibbling at its tail. Nessa simply stands by as more and more rats climb over her back to look at the playful creature.

Nessa continues her ongoing bit of paranoia though. She's almost prepared for anything. She should be; the last thing to betray her was a spy within her own swarm.

Oh yes, yes! I am a very fat kitty, if only the cat could speak. The many bountiful meals this comfortable belly has seen...

Curious as felines were often wont to do, the dark-furred creature tentatively sniffed Nessa's knuckles with its moist nose. Ah, the smell of a human... but was she really? Come now, Nessa... You didn't really expect a denizen of the city's underworld to be truly hoodwinked by your masquerade, hmm? Was it not proper to give credit where credit is due? But, if you must insist... The cat rose up to its haunches and twitched its tail instinctively, neither bothered by whatever inquisitive vermin approached its fluffy body or quick to provoke. It instead took one last glance at the woman before it, raw intelligence swimming in those golden eyes, and decided now was the perfect time to leave. So it did.

With a light rustle of its coat the feline got up and simply... walked away. Sauntered, more likely, but it departed all the same. It turned around the right building's corner and was gone. You won't be troubled by the well-kept creature for a good while, and that was because there was yet to be a second encounter. How decent were your history skills, Nessa?

    "Bark bark! Bark bark!"
Do you hear that, hmm? Do you hear the loud baying of sport?

No sooner had the cat left and moseyed on its lazy way did a rather spunky dog surface. It was an average dog, mind you - not too large and not too small. The perfect size, really. Ah, but that was of little importance. If Nessa were keen on her dog breeds and thus knowledgeable in all its intricate workings, she would have realized with ease that this dog in particular was a black and tan terrier.

This dog, for all intensive purposes, was fairly active - perhaps seeking an undetermined quarry. Whatever it had been after was soon forgotten, however, as the robust canine's padded paws could be heard swiftly approaching this way.

The light patting stopped. It stopped, and soon the dog had a new scent on the wind to investigate.

Now, it wasn't quite known why dogs were of the nosy sort. It could be that they were simply bred to pinpoint the unusual, or that they had little else to occupy themselves. Regardless of what the underlying reason was, the terrier rounded the same alleyway Nessa was and promptly... froze.

    "Grrrr..."

Upon seeing Nessa and her horde did the canine's hackles begin to rise, its head stooped low and tail straight. There was something about you, Nessa... Something that the dog obviously did not like. Why was that?

Suddenly the sound of running feet could be heard, the evident clicking of heels present, and soon another voice could be loudly distinguished. "Billy! Billy, you ruffian! You know better than to take off like that," scolded an unseen male. He was soon revealed and in all his wondrous trappings, a relic of the past made flesh. "Oh, I am terrible sorry about Billy, ma'am. He's been a bit antsy lately." Billy was no doubt the terrier, the same terrier who was not keen on your presence, but who was this?

See his topcoat, green and rich.
See his waistcoat, scarlet and vibrant.
See his breeches, white and striking.
And, most of all, see his leather belt with adornments he had made himself.

Do you see a familiar motif in its cast-iron metalwork?

"Ah! But where are my manners? My name is Black, ma'am - Jack Black," said this Jack Black, his accent distinctly British. The middle of the nineteenth century, to be exact. He made as if to approach and kiss your hand but pointedly... stopped. He stopped, at least halfway, when he noticed the swarm of rats between him and you. "Oh my," he whistled, astonished while scratching at his uncombed beard. "That's, ah... quite a bit of rats you got there! I can see why ol' Billy is upset. He doesn't really like rats, see."

And to emphasize on this the terrier once more growled, muzzle twitching. "Grrr... Bark bark!"

    Point in case.

Post by Nessa on Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:55 pm

Nessa's swarm had begun to close in as the cat simply walked away. Turning your back on a predator wasn't exactly an animalistic instinct... So this cat is definitely more than what it seems... Nessa straightens herself and cocks her head at the curious creature's intelligent eyes. Matching and meeting them with her ancient gaze. If anything, the eons of experience that Nergal had forced into her mind had been a burden for most of her immortal life, but in situations like this... the Elder's experiences have saved her and helped her time and again.

This is probably one of those times.

She blinks away from the spot the cat was last seen before it rounds the corner. A few of her rats had stalked the creature and turned the corner as well to see...

Nessa blinks rapidly as the barking rings in her ears. A smaller dog. She listens as the dog nears, a good half of her rats disappearing from sight and hiding in her aura, she pulls down her scarf and places it around her mouth and neck. Her dreadlocks cover her entire face and flow in all directions.

If not a cat for dinner, than a dog will do just fine.

    However...

As the dog comes into view, Nessa stops her movement... That's... a black and tan terrier. She smiles at a memory.

A memory that is right on the heels of the smallish dog. Nessa's red irises go wide. She stands there in shock for a moment, she knows his name even before Mr. Black introduces himself. She blinks twice, becoming far less tense immediately. The man has seemingly forgotten her... Or he's from a different time or dimension. She almost laughs to herself.

The Piper and Her Majesty's Catcher:

Nessa steps out of the darkness, the Rat Catcher holding up his cage and blinking at the odd rat.Other than the fact that she was an albino and quite small... the creature is covered in what seems like... liquid soot? That doesn't make any kind of sense!

"You know, Sir, it's not very kind to take someone elses children. It pains me to see her in that cage as well... Can you do me a favor..."

Nessa's form fades from existence, appearing next to the man in a blink of an eye. Her dagger appearing at her hand and brushing the famed Catcher's neck. Her lips come close to the now trembling man's ear.

"...And give her back to her mother?"

Nessa yelps as a piercing pain comes from her ankle, she looks down and sees a small terrier ripping at her boots. She grimaces and kicks at the dog, but it barely makes any difference. She fades out of sight, the dog falling to the ground in confusion. What was he even biting?

Suzanne falls away into black smoke. Appearing along with Nessa at the end of the alley, the small white rat on her shoulder, licking herself clean indignantly.

"Be careful, Catcher. Not all the rats in London are yours to take. This is your only warning."

She fades from sight, waiting for the cover of night to make her move against the Queen... If her master hadn't ordered her to keep a low profile... the catcher would have been bleeding out or recovering from auditory trauma for the rest of his life....

She brings her scarf down under her chin, holding out her hand, as if to accept the kiss. As is the culture! The rats retreat on her command, falling back and hiding in the darkness and in dumpsters.

"Oh come now, pooch. I'm sure you've seen worse rats. And Jack Black, your reputation precedes you! I'm am called Elise. How is it her Majesty's Rat Catcher landed upon the Breach?" Her Brittish accent, though not her original, is flawless.

She smiles outwardly, but grinds her teeth. She knows this isn't normal. This is beyond coincidental and she smells a rat, so to speak. Her shrouded aura reaches out, sensing for any magic... it always leaves traces... an immortal simply needs to observe.

But was this magic, or was this something more...?

Jack Black, for the most part, was delightfully oblivious to the more subtle undercurrents of this chance meeting. He lightly kissed the woman's hand as was proper and tipped his heat off to her, smiling. "Thank you, ma'am! I try my hardest to perform good work for the people of London, but I am quite glad to hear that my deeds and ferocity are making their rounds," he answered. Billy was of a different mind, but he was a mundane dog and mundane dogs surely could not speak! Not from the midst of 18th century Earth, that was.

"Bark bark!" A growl here and a whine there, Billy desperately wanting his master to see through the facade with a dog's loyal eyes. He was bred to seek vermin, after all! The finest rat-catching terrier in London, wasn't that right?

Of course it was, and now Black was starting to remember why he was here. "The Breach? Is that what they call this place?" inquired the man. He placed his hat back upon that head of his, hair set in its ways, and gave that a bit of thought. "Hmm, I don't know if I like this Breach," he said, glancing all around - especially up at the towering skyscrapers nearby. "It's a bit... oh, too large, I think. And very strange in architecture. Nothing like London and the fine countryside all around Her Majesty's land." In short, Black was from a far simpler time and didn't know what to make of this world. Not yet. "In any event!" The man loudly clapped his hands and started to tinker with the many fascinating knick-knacks about his person. "Business is booming, even if I don't know where I am, and someone had called about a growing rat problem," Black continued. He ceased fiddling with his things, content, and glanced back up at Nessa cheerily. "Unfortunately, they cited you as the source of the infestation and we can't be having that, now, can we?" Oh, what a smile for the ages.

"Normally, I'd ask for the offending party to please vacate the premises and let me do my work, but something tells me you're going to be a bit of trouble!" Mask your aura all you desire, immortal, but you were puny here - weak. Where, oh where is your strength? Could it be that the awful portal hath taken it away? That smile never faltered, not once, from Black's face and he held up a metal trap with pride. "This is my latest model!" he spoke up. "Would you like to see how it works? Oh, but first..."

    But first something was happening...

Little by little Black and his pooch began to grow, and little by little Nessa began to shrink... Soon her world was gargantuan, the alleyway suddenly an entirely different place, as the woman was no larger than one of her very own rats.

"That's much better," Black happily commented. Bending down with a colossal hand outstretched, Her Majesty's Ratcatcher made an attempt to capture Nessa!

    What will you do?

Nessa accepts the kiss, albeit secretly disgusted. She was never fond of the procedure, too much contact. Especially with men's mouths. Especially men's mouths from the 18th century. If one knew disgusting, it was from there. She blinks away the thoughts. However, she doesn't stop her observation. This is all way too... coincidental. She furrows her brow as the man continues his speech. She sees it fit to not speak as he rambles on about a pest problem. Hardly a pest problem... She has it quite under control. Literally.

She slides her foot backwards, sensing his intent due to her constant distrust. Whether or not it's well founded, she is always cautious. However, he speaks as if she's the problem. Oh? Well of course her rats. The Catcher is at it again. Or... or is this really the Catcher? That cat is still on her mind... That spark in its eyes told her much more than anything else could at this moment. Her hand slides behind her back, touching the hilt of Carnwennan, blending her aura and its power for quick use. The familiar voices of elders that cut many another god's throat ring in her head, along with the underlying all-voice of the timeless weapon itself. She's found comfort in its madness.

However, it doesn't stop her from seeing herself shrink. Her eyes become narrow, looking up at the catcher as he crouches to capture her.

Whatever force is causing this, and she indeed feels that is the case, it's in her thoughts. Paranoia's best friend.

She lowers herself, her aura, spread thin from the sheer amount of rats at her command, shoots out in a (smaller) cloud, and rats pour forth, from the dumpster, from the sewer grates, from the gutters, from behind the Catcher himself. They seem endless. Suzanne stands next to her master, the rats her own size now, and the white rat hisses threateningly.

"Well you see, dear... I just can't allow that."

The swarm wraps around her small form, her darker aura coming off each one of the Piper's Children.

"And of course, I'm not entirely powerful quite yet... but a witch has her tricks."

She backs up slowly, Carnwennan in her grip and her flute in the other, seeming to put itself together in her hand. She shrouds herself. Nessa's red eyes are the last to disappear. Her rats move erratically around the area, making her shroud even more effective.

Her voice seems to come from nowhere, her presence nearly gone, but not away. She's here, she's not running from this peculiar situation...

"So, who hired you, dear Black? And how are you so keen on who I am and what trouble I've caused?"

The pull of her aura toward Arthur's dagger makes her grit her teeth. She's half spent already. So much energy on such a simple action as before... She must seek power. And soon. If only she had allies in this city, not just acquaintances. However, she's not quite spent yet.

Mm, yes... Yes, convene with your otherworldly powers, girl. You were but prey before the predator, and this world had severely dampened your abilities' effectiveness. That having been said, the catcher in question gave a hearty chuckle at Nessa's shadowy display and otherwise made no further move.

"What a marvelous trick you just performed!" remarked Black, ecstatic. Billy, of course, was less than thrilled and he instead growled with hackles continuously raised. "Why, you darn near melded into the alleyway as if you were nothing but thin air - the rats and all!" But that was all it was and nothing more, a trick. Something within Black stirred, something hungering by nature, and the man's unassuming irises briefly flashed with a soft hint of gold in the surrounding darkness. Flames seemed to lick Billy's throat, but this could have very well been what he last ate for supper. Dogs will eat anything if you let them. "Who hired me?" the man repeated, sounding a smidgen perplexed. Ah, right! She must be demanding to know why Her Majesty's Ratcatcher was after her and her mischief.

He gave it some honest thought, as mortals were wont to do, and simply answered, "Oh I know a great deal about you. In fact, I know that you are not quite what you seem. Why do you have to lie to old Black, ma'am? I haven't hurt a fly, I have!" But a rat, certainly. They were not, as any sane person will tell you, flies. Seeing as how his subject of interest was still hidden and thinking to keep herself that way, Black lowered his experimental cage and began playing with his blouse's collar. "And you haven't caused too much trouble, at least not yet. But ol' Black knows better, see. He knows when troublemakers come into town and set up shop, thinking they can have their run of the city without any repercussions."

And what do you think those repercussions must be, hmm?

By now something was beginning to manifest, Black's shadow taking a sharply demonic appearance. "You know, I like your fighting spirit," the man said, smoky tendrils curling out from his lips. "It means you've got a bright soul in there, and one that doesn't take too kindly to being dominated or oppressed. I wonder, my girl... Can you be made to feel terror unlike anything of your wildest dreams? Billy, show our wonderful lady the new trick you learned!"

With a snap of his master's fingers and a shrill whistle behind it, Billy literally erupted into a blaze of hellfire. Hot was the hound's breath and blazing were his eyes, the small terrier nothing more than a raging inferno complete upon skeletal legs.

His coat had been consumed in the flames and row of black spines traveled down the dog's exposed vertebrae.

    "Bark bark, bark bark!"
"Atta boy," Black smiled, eyes refocusing back upon the alleyway and his cloaked guests. "I may not be able to see you, m'lady, but a great hunter needs not sight alone to catch his quarry. Billy, go greet our company like a gentleman. Go on!"

The command given and his master expectant, Billy raced away from the catcher's side for the alleyway. Look at him go, that flaming pooch of bone and death! Look at him, as his brilliant aura illuminated the darkness of this dark and dreary place. Not for long, of course Never for long, because as soon as Billy had reached his destination and completed his master's objective...

    BOOM!
A terrific explosion engulfed the alleyway, but not in the traditional sense. Billy's poor body shattered into a thousand pieces, maybe a million, and his remains coated everything in a five meter radius with a light rain of bone powder.

"That dog was one of the best I ever had, he was," Black sniffed, reaching up with a hand to perhaps wipe away some tears.

Do not be fooled... Amidst the chalky shower were faint screams of the damned.

If anything, Nessa has always been good at hiding.

As the Catcher speaks, she eyes the dog's change. Yes... this is much more than what it seems. There is some sort of powerful being at work here. She narrows her eyes. This is all sounding very familiar to her. She shifts a bit backwards, silently, atop the dumpster she is crouched on.

Her eyes flit to Jack as his voice changes, and her teeth grind as she feels some sort of power coming from the 'man'. All the comments of her possible mischief are lost on her. If she were to cause any trouble, it would be severely covered, almost perfectly. Even in her weak state, she still remembers how to keep everything clean, even from gods' eyes. This being... this thing in front of her. It's in her head. Paranoia runs rampant. She is deeming this situation far too hazardous as of right now. She should have thought that in the first place at the odd cat.

The power from Jack becomes apparent, and she feels a twinge of emotional distress, not specific, but in general, bubbling up from her being. Anguish, desperation. All things she has felt before. She has endured immeasurable pain before, both physically and not. The feeling may be known, but it isn't like she's up for enduring it yet again. Her aura wraps around her protectively, obscured now from physical touch.

The dog charges suddenly and she rolls backwards behind the dumpster as it explodes. Rats scatter from the flaming terrier's bones, disappearing in small clouds of black soot. As the dust settles, the swarm hisses in unison. The rats have not stopped pouring out of all the crevices. She has been here long enough to amass quite the army of vermin.

She stands forth, walking toward Jack slowly not making a sound. Her voice comes from the walls, her words sounding like it is coming from a filter from far away.

"I am no fool, being. I have felt fear, dread, and terror beyond mortal recognition. There was once a time when the gods themselves feared my company. I may be weakened now, but this world has added to my immortality, which I am sure you know of. My words may be lost on you, but if you fancy yourself my enemy, I have the utmost confidence that I will be a thorn in your side. However, I do find myself in need of allies. What are you really? I find your power to be... most invigorating." Her accent fluidly goes from Germanic to something otherworldly, the elder knowledge pulsing through her brain changing her voice into something more than human.

Though she knows not what she stands before, she holds Carnwennan at the ready, her flute snaps together in her other hand, wails of songs long forgotten echo like whispers behind closed doors. She could attempt to escape... but if she were to gain anything from this endeavour, than now would be the time. This being is simply playing with it's food. She knows that deep within her soul. Which, indeed, will not be caged again.

The swarm surrounds the area again, writhing in insurmountable numbers and blinking with unnatural red eyes.

Post by Diablo on Wed Apr 23, 2014 2:23 am

So, she had managed to avoid its curse...

Black was all smiles and revealed nothing of his mental state, not even appearing upset at the loss of Billy; although the amber glow in his eyes had returned, smoldering like two lively, searing coals. Oh, how delicious her anguish would have tasted had it not been for her feisty will... Tut tut! The man will simply have to forgo enjoying yet another forlorn soul to dine upon on this eve. Perhaps he'll turn upon her children, hmm? They were, after all, numerous in number and equally filled with a certain... spark.

"A thorn in my side?" the ratcatcher whimsically purred. In the briefest of moments, if ever so slim, the man's shadow almost seemed to exhibit a coiled and serpentine tail. The shadowy appendage passed as quickly as it had come, however, and Black was already on the prowl with his words alone. "You couldn't harm me, child, no matter what power you possessed. You may have frightened gods and mortals with ease but I, you must realize, have been made to supersede both." Not much longer now... Not much longer until the being currently "known" as Black will taste an infernal strength like no other. It will soon be time, yes. "Allies?" The ratcatcher turned his head to the side, tilted and quizzical, as a toothy smile graced his face. "Are you, my girl, offering me a proposition?" A logical decision, given that she was currently well beyond any league imaginable.

With a throaty, reverberating chuckle Black had found his guest's words nothing short of amusing. "Like this power, do you?" he inquired, desiring a response. "Angels, men, and demons alike have sought the force inside me, but you will find that none of them are here today. They could not overcome their immortal vices." And as for what "Black" was...

The man did a courteous bow, resuming this elaborate charade.

"I have gone by many names and titles, but I find one in particular that suits me. You, my dear, may simply refer to me as your fears made manifest." Ah, you didn't really think the malignant entity would be forthright with its name on the first date, did you? The ratcatcher wagged a finger, quietly tsk'ing in the darkened atmosphere of the alleyway. "As for my real name, I shan't tell you. It is a useless thing to the likes of you and your mischief. Simply know that I am a creature to be reckoned with, and I seek nothing more than the opportunity to spread my art to the world. I fancy masterpieces, you know. Certain masterpieces, as it were."

But enough of the biography lesson. This woman, this anomaly, thought to engage in a little trouble of her own. Black squared away his jaw after shifting it repeatedly, nostrils flaring. "Alright, then. What is this talk about needing allies?"

    You have the devil's ear...

    Yet again...

Nessa smiles, listening to the thing in front of her. It's just like every elder she's ever encountered. Full of themselves, and all the powers to back it up. She sighs inwardly, she's in just another world full of all-powerful beings. The Immortal almost chuckles aloud. Nothing ever changes, but at least she's used to it. The whole world is full of surprises, but none are all that surprising. As Black speaks, she sheds her shroud, extending a courtesy she normally doesn't, yet holding Carnwennan and her flute in each hand loosely. She's still in the presence of something 'beyond god', she's not just going to unarm herself to speak to this thing.

She loosens her stance as well, her aura hardening around her as she comes out of the shroud, becoming the black and red tinted leather armor she normally dons in cases of an assassination gone wrong. But in this situation, it's merely precaution.

She finds it interesting, and a bit predictable, that Black is interested when she compliments his abilities. She didn't care for the cryptic name nonsense. The query, on her part, about his true form was simply another courteous comment. Her actual interest lies in this ability to manipulate others with fear alone. That, indeed would be a great allied ability. She can cause fear in different ways, the more traditional way of a threat but augmented with magic. However, Black seems to do it on a whim. She's already felt naught but a sliver of the ability and she's hooked already.

She shifts onto her hip and smiles behind red glowing eyes.

"Proposition? You could call it that, Sir Black. I already find your art, and indeed it is that, to be beyond commendable. I'm sure I've only barely felt what you are truly capable of... and you're all so subtle about it as well. Something I have the utmost respect for."

Her voice and thoughts on the matter are sincere. She's not hiding her feelings on the matter. She intends to make a 'friend' or two whilst here. Something she's learned about being alone for centuries. Not much gets accomplished on your own. An odd twist, due to the fact that most immortals just lay about their own Realms or their own residences to live out their existence as if nothing in the world could bother them. That's how so many fell to her songs, to her blade, and to her swarms gnawing mouths. No no, she will seek out purpose, therefore allies.

She brings her debonair smile back to Black. "Masterpieces you say? I would enjoy that picture. The whole realm scurrying on their knees like vermin in fear. Lost in their own personal hells. Ahhhh... Such a beautiful painting. Indeed a work of art that I would love to see come to fruition, Sir Black. And on that note, what my own plans might reflect. Of course, I'm found wanting." She indicates herself with both hands to her chest. "I'm quite weak. I'm very sure that you could have your own fun with me, destroying my psyche in moments with such power... However I offer my hand in assisting you on your journey of terror. I've quite the urge to inflict pain upon weaklings, but as I am one, it's quite the conundrum on what to do."

Her swarm continues to undulate, but most go about their own business in the garbage and dumpsters. Some hold scraps of flesh and food. Nibbling as they watch the encounter between Mother and Black.

Suzanne stands at Nessa's side. Cleaning herself with one eye on the being before them.

Ah, so there the lass was... Tired of playing in the shadows and thinking they offered her sanctuary, was she? How... courteous of her, along with her words of flattery.

Whatever this entity was, be it god or devil, the apparition that was Sir Black knew his part in the play. He found it interesting, and a bit predictable, that she became diplomatic once these abilities had been reaffirmed; that Black was not simply all smoke and mirrors. Power was miraculously attractive to those ambitiously working their way up, yes? Of course the unnamed force of nature was equal parts attractive as it was perceptive, Black listening to his guest's words with more than just a grain of salt.

"My, my... What a tangled web we have already woven for ourselves," the man purred. So he had both an admirer and willing associate, as mortals called it? Naturally the scales were horrifically tipped in his favour and Black felt nothing in regards to whatever threats this woman may be. Currently she, herself, was wanting of power; weren't they all? The man reached up to scratch his gruff beard, Black pretending to give it some thought. "I suppose I could humour you... You are, after all, fond of my work. And to think, you have yet to see my gallery!" That was for another time and place, however. The man had no intentions of letting this weakened mistress of subterfuge within an inch of his domain, for that is a mistake an evil warlock or egotistical warlord would commit. Rather, he had something much better in mind for the girl.

At her words the man smiled, although it was not for the woman's well-being. "Very well, I'll strike a deal with you," as devils were wont to do with their playthings. "I will assist you and your adorable little mischief if you can, say... prove yourself to me? Yes, yes. I would like that very much! Incredibly, even!" Such a basic game she shall have to play! As with a certain green-haired man and his slippery tongue, Black wished to see this woman exhibit a masterpiece of her own.

"Commit an act of terror," he further elaborated, straightening out the brim of his hat. "Strike fear into the hearts of mortals and give them the what-for. You do this, my dear, and I'll see to your needs like the generous creature that I am."

Even the almighty Lord of Hell needed some minions of its own, after all.
