Sokka let out a quick sigh accompanied by a slight grin at Korra's confident reply. This fight was not over yet, but he was glad to see that they were making the stand they were, especially considering that the two of them were still adjusting to their altered forms. Platypus bears were not animals to take lightly when they were looking for a fight, and even though he did not want to kill this one unless if he absolutely had to, at the very least, their advantage against it seemed to be increasing with each exchange of blows.

Even as he evaded the otherwise vicious bite from the platypus bear, Sokka did not let his gaze wander. He did respond to Korra's concerned call with a brief nod right before he jumped to take advantage of their foe's position, and he barked out a pleased "HA!" as he saw his friend's own water whip follow him up. No sooner did he steady his footing from his own attack than was he set to double back out of the beast's way, right as Korra called for him to do just the same. Adjusting his hold on his space sword so that he'd be set to parry any potential attacks, Sokka did as requested, responding, "Got it!"

At that, Sokka slid backwards before sidestepping sot the diagonal front of the platypus bear. Blinking as he realized just what Korra had in mind, he took up a defensive stance, soon holding his breath as she wrapped the water around the beast's ankles. He perked up as soon as she pulled back, but even though the motion was there, the platypus bear stood strong, just in time to throw a clawed swipe at him. This time, Sokka didn't have the chance to dodge, but he did use his sword to deflect the blow as best he could. His partial block caused the sharp claws to slash into the front of his shirt just around the collarbone, and thankfully, the blow was glancing at best.

"Nngh!" Trying not to think about what his current frame would have meant had the attack been lower and stronger, Sokka pushed back with his sword to keep the beast's paw in place, right before he ducked to the side and pulled out his bone club. Drawing back his right arm, he soon bashed it twice against the platypus bear's wrist and a split second later, swiftly pulled it back to have its narrow edge meet the side of its neck. He knew that the club wasn't capable of the same damage that his sword was, but it was still a reliable weapon, and dual-wielding at this point might help end this fight even sooner.

Sokka's confident grin made her feel even more confident herself. Together, they could get through this! This was one big Platypus Bear, but they were two Water Tribe Teenagers, one of which was the Avatar and the other was a Warrior. Korra couldn't help but grin a bit when one strike of the water whip managed to connect on a wound that Sokka had just made with his sword. Bet that stung like the dickens!

Sokka did as Korra had warned and backed away from the Platypus Bear, which itself seemed rather stunned and out of it for the moment. Perfect time to strike! The water tendril wrapped around the foot, Korra digging her heels into the ground when her initial tugs didn't seem to do anything. "Come on...!" Korra's teeth gnashed as she pulled with all of the strength she had in her arms, determined. The Platypus Bear let out another squawking roar, and it seemed his will was stronger. She tugged once more, but between the bear's unmoving pose and her pulling, the water suddenly snapped like a rubber band. Water splashed onto the ground and the foot was free, though wet. Another great paw swung down towards where Sokka had moved, Sokka's sword coming up to block the claws. Though he did a good job blocking it, he was still nicked by the claws. Korra winced, but since there was no blood spilling onto the ground, she took that to mean her friend was alright.

With the bear currently focused on Sokka, and even more, its paw matching Sokka's sword as if this were a duel, Korra motioned with her fingers, drawing the water out of the ground and creating a tendril that snapped onto the neck wound once more. Immediately after, Sokka edged away from the platypus bear and got out his boneclub, giving the paw a good whack or two before slashing at it. He was still almost dangerously close to its vicinity though, and the bear had been pretty stuck on attacking him throughout this anyway. "Don't worry Sokka, this thing doesn't have much strength left!" She didn't really know such a thing, but she could almost feel it. And that stupor it had been in before she tried to knock it down...he was closer to being finished then they were! "Hyah!" Aiming this time between the shoulder blades, Korra whipped the creature with no remorse.

    Water Tribe Waterskin

--At some point during Korra's water-bending training, she presumably got a waterskin, or at least was advised to get a waterskin. As an Native Waterbender, she would know that it is important to try and keep water on your person, because water is not always easily accessible everywhere you go. As such, its become a staple for Water Tribe Waterbenders to carry a waterskin with them, as Katara did before Korra. A Waterbender can 'bend' the water out of the waterskin and use it as needed. Obviously the waterskin needs water inside of it in order for it to complete its purpose.

Finally! The platypus bear had FINALLY connected with his mighty claws! Unfortunately, the warrior proved annoyingly swift once more and had managed to soften the blow by pulling up her sword just in time. His paw had managed to graze her clothing though, so at least it was some progress. She was in no position to better combat him… or so it seemed, at least.

Growling as the warrior pushed forward with her sword, the platypus bear soon blinked in surprise as she ducked back, only to bash at his wrist with a bone club. He started to let out a squawking growl at that, right before the club suddenly met the side of his neck. That strike had not dealt as much damage as the one to his paw, but sweet spirits did it hurt!

Managing to catch his breath if not most of his voice, the platypus bear narrowed his gaze at the warrior, just as he felt another round of water splash at his shoulders. Thankfully, the angle that the waterbender had hit him at caught him right on the thickest part of his shoulders, and he managed to only feel the sudden impact of it instead of anything that stung. Still, even though that attack had not hurt him, it was quickly starting to grate on the beast that he was getting splashed by means outside his own will. Enough was enough.

Whipping around from his focus on the warrior, the platypus bear let out a slightly softer roar before he charged forward, throwing a powerful swipe of his paw at the waterbender's chest. It had been his best strike at his companion, and hopefully he would have better luck this round! He had to have some before one of their sides fell!

Sokka let out a quick sigh of relief as he felt two of his club strikes connect, one square on the platypus bear's wrist and a slightly weaker one back against its neck. He had a feeling that the beast had been especially focused on him since he had been the first to injure it, but thus far, that intense concentration from their foe had worked to their advantage. In keeping it distracted, they had managed to weaken the platypus bear without it really hurting either of them too badly. Sure, Sokka had been grazed by that last attack, but he was still set to retaliate.

Grinning a bit at Korra's exclamation, Sokka called, "Yeah, I can feel it getting more desperate! He wasn't as strong on that last swipe, so we've got to be close to tiring it out!" Korra's instincts seemed spot on given the way the beast glowered at the warrior, but there was definitely still some fight left in their foe.

That very fight seemed to spark more to life as the platypus bear felt the splash of water against his back, and in an instant, he had pivoted around, his focus locking on Korra instead. Sokka's eyes widened as the beast roared and charged right at his friend, set to throw one of his powerful paws at her. The luck that their opponent had started to pick up with his last attack seemed to have increased a bit, as he soon landed a hit right against the Avatar. It didn't appear to be as vicious as it could have been, but it had still connected.

"Korra!" Sokka caught his footing and bolted forward. A second later, he leapt for the platypus bear's back, bringing his bone club down on its right shoulder to both bash it as well as to pull himself up into a steady position. He had hooked the beast's shoulder just right as he steadied his feet on its back, and as soon as he had a good grip around the back of its neck, he drew back his space sword in his left arm. "Oh no you DON'T!" At that, Sokka brought his sword down and quickly slashed at the platypus bear's thick neck, trying to finally incapacitate it.

Desperate was right. This Platypus Bear was outmatched and outnumbered, and it seemed to be realizing it. The two of them weren't going to go down easy! With a smirk, Korra nodded back to Sokka and enacted her attack on the Platypus Bear. The water whipped and splashed upon the Platypus bear's back, though it didn't seem pained at all. In fact, the hybrid creature soon pivoted around to fave Korra herself, who's eyes widened in surprise. All this time it had focused its attacks on Sokka. Had she finally managed to get its attention? ...In a way that she most definitely did not want to?

With a roar, it charged forward, Korra already moving to redirect her water whip to form a crude shield between herself and the Platypus Bear, though it was too quick. It stormed past her water barrier before it even properly formed. A mighty paw came down, Korra hopping backwards at the action, but not before the claws struck their mark. "Agh!" She winced, a hand instantly moving forward to grab at her chest. For a moment she stiffened with some degree of shock before remembering that her body had made a certain change earlier. With a slight sigh of relief, she watched as Sokka leapt at the bear. His first few moves didn't seem to hurt it at all, but his final strike to the neck was what finally got it to collapse to the ground and stop moving.

"Great job, Sokka!" She breathed out with a grin. She pulled her hand back to examine how bad her wound was. There were three red gash marks on her chest, bleeding slightly but still not as bad as it could have been. Already the blood was lessening and clotting up. "I'll be fine. How are you doing? Think you need any sort of healing?' The bear had barely struck Sokka, but you never knew.

The first strike from his space sword had apparently done more to stabilize his position atop the platypus bear's back and shoulders than any actual damage, but his second slash struck true. As his sword connected, Sokka could feel the beast tense up beneath him, right before it began to slump forward to the ground. Riding the platypus bear the short trip down, he braced himself as their now fallen foe landed with a mighty thud, only letting out a sigh of relief as he caught Korra's call. Glancing back to his friend, he nodded as he hopped off of the beast, stating, "Ha, thanks. I couldn't have done it without you!"

As soon as he holstered his bone club, Sokka kept an eye on the platypus bear, just in case if anything unexpected happened. He soon blinked though as the beast began to disappear in a stream of code, leaving nothing behind from where it had fallen. Although there wasn't anything on the ground, the defeat of the platypus bear had apparently triggered something else in the chamber, as the sound of shifting rocks began to echo through it. Exchanging a quick glance with Korra, Sokka soon looked up to see an open doorway appear in the back of the cavern. Chuffing and smiling softly, he mused, "Well, at least we've opened the next part of this cave."

Moving to clean off his sword before sheathing it, Sokka took a couple of steps closer to Korra, unable to suppress a slight, sympathetic wince as she pulled her hand back to reveal her wound she'd sustained. The injury wasn't as bad as it could have been, but between the fact that she'd been hurt at all as well as the unexpected reminder of her altered form, he definitely felt a little bad for her. "I thought you might be, but I'm still glad you're all right," noted Sokka, nodding before blinking as he assessed his own condition. That momentary thought caught him glancing at Korra's injury to make sure she really would be okay, right before he quickly jolted a bit, realizing he'd unintentionally left his gaze on his friend's chest for a fraction of a second longer than he'd meant. She might've been a man right now, but she was still Korra… and still a woman. Meeting her eyes again, Sokka coughed before responding, "Ah, me? I'm fine, really! I just got grazed a little, see? No big deal!"

At that, Sokka reached into one of his pockets to pull out a spare length of cloth, one of a few that he often kept on himself in case he ever needed to patch up any injures before he could get to Korra or first aid supplies. He knew that she could heal herself, but if she wanted to clean up her wound for the time being, at least she'd have the means to do so. Offering the clean cloth to Korra, Sokka looked to the side, noting, "You can use this to stop the bleeding and clean it up if you'd like."

Post by Korra on Sun Aug 10, 2014 1:08 am

The sight of a female Sokka riding the Platypus Bear's unconscious body down to the ground was...an interesting one. She brought a hand up to muffle her chuckle, grinning behind it since Sokka seemed altogether alright from his ride. At the statement, Korra nodded in agreement and crossed her arms with a proud grin. "Of course! I'm the Avatar. City Defender, Equalist wrangler. Animal tamer." She was about to poke the creature with her boot to be sure the thing was down and out when it suddenly started to...dissolve?! In a fluid motion, she flicked her wrists and set her arms out into a wide, open position as the water seemed to cling onto her arms, ready to attack. The remnants of it disappeared rather than attack though, and it was as if there'd never been a Platypus Bear. Their slight battle damage and cloth damage remained as proof that it had in fact happened. With a frown, she lowered her arms, motioning the water back into her waterskin. "That's strange..."

Even stranger was the sound of shifting rock. Looking at Sokka before looking in the direction of the sound, it seemed defeating that thing had revealed a new door. That certainly raised an eyebrow. Obstacles, creatures to fight...it was as if they'd wandered into a trap. Or a maze. "Good thing we're not stuck here. I wasn't looking forward to waiting for that thing to wake back up." Sokka took a look at her wound for himself, Korra brushing the little injury off easily. "Good thing we're used to this sort of thing, huh?" Between their own respective adventures and their adventures here, injuries were sort of commonplace. She looked down at her own wound again, assessing it and missing out on Sokka's awkwardness about her chest wound. "Hmm...don't think its bad enough to heal. I want to save as much water as I can in case something really bad happens..." A broken bone or something was pretty serious. Three scratches? She'd live.

She looked back to Sokka's eyes once more, smiling since he was alright, only grazed. Her head tilted to the side when Sokka grabbed out the cloth, though once he handed it over and spoke she nodded and took it into her own hands. "Thanks." Using a few drops of water to moisten it, she wiped at her wound and pressed it up against the gashes. The scratches were pretty shallow so the blood was already starting to clot, and after a few moments she focused on trying to clear the wounds of any debris. When she was pleased, she wrung the cloth out though she eyed the red spots on the cloth with a grimace. "Uh...not sure if you still want it or...if we should just toss it aside." If he really wanted it, they could always clean it at the inn or something.

Sokka was glad that his unintentional trip down with the now fallen platypus bear amused Korra, and he soon met her with a broad grin of his own at her description of just some of what came along with being the Avatar. Even with as much as Korra differed from Aang in many ways, one thing she had in common with him was her love of animals and knack for handling them. By this point, Sokka was convinced it was something they both shared regardless of their both being the Avatar, but it was amusing to see that parallel between them.

Before he could even get a good defensive stance, the platypus bear faded away, and he could only nod slightly at Korra's assessment. "Yeah, especially since it seemed a little different from whenever anyone does die here…" Sokka had seen such firsthand despite obviously missing how that had happened to him at the start of the year… still, whether the platypus bear had actually died or had been whisked away as part of this cave, what mattered the most was that they were safe. Safe and able to continue forward.

At Korra's note about them not being stuck, Sokka nodded in agreement, inwardly wondering just what the rest of this cave held in store for them. As far as the two of them being used to fights and injuries, he chuffed before saying, "Heh, yeah. It helps that we've both been through a LOT worse before." As soon as he'd recovered from checking on his friend, he did let out a soft sigh as Korra confirmed that she was fine from the three scratches. They weren't pretty, but at least they weren't too deep. Saving her water made perfect sense regardless of some of the water that was about this particular chamber, and if anything, it would make sure that she was extra set to heal either of them should they need it later on. "That sounds like a good idea."

Sokka was pleased that his offered cloth wound up being helpful for Korra, and as soon as she'd cleaned her wound, he just chuckled a little at her slight cringe. "Either works, but since you've cleaned up nicely, we can toss it aside. I hope we don't get hurt more before we leave this cave, but between the two of us, we should be prepared to handle any injury." With a glance to Naga and their newly appeared exit, Sokka started to move towards it, looking over it before waving to Korra. "It looks clear from here… and like it heads to another tunnel. Shall we?"

"Does it?" Korra had pretty lucky so far. She hadn't seen anybody be killed yet, so as far as she knew that sort of...thing that happened with the Platypus Bear was normal here. There was always the guess that it was an illusion of some kind, but then they wouldn't have any battle damage on them, right? "Wonder if that'll happen with anything else we battle in this place..." Only one way to find out.

At Sokka's response that they'd been through a lot worse than this, she nodded in agreement. She'd take scratches over being bloodbended anyday. She was pretty relieved to have her ability to heal as well, just in case they had a bad scrap in this place. They were still pretty luck to have shaken off the damage from those things in the room before. She definitely hoped they wouldn't have to deal with those again.

With a slight shrug, Korra tossed the scrap behind her back. She doubted they'd need it. If they did, they could use something else, that one was pretty dirty now anyways. They certainly weren't going to help themselves any if they got an infection! She clapped her hands together, brushing any debris off before following Sokka's gaze to Naga, then to the new opening. Sokka checked it out and deemed it secure. Or...as secure as you can get in a place like this. "Lets go." She waved Naga along as they began to descend into this new tunnel.

"Yeah," noted Sokka, nodding at Korra's question. "I saw it happen to this guy named Tenho when I'd gone off to that castle. I'm not sure if this cave treats it the same way, but it was similar at least." Shrugging slightly at her open musing, he added, "Who knows? One thing's for sure though… that battle was definitely real, and I doubt it'll be our last one in here." It had been just as real as the changes that had befallen them were, but even with that, the fights were simply proof that no matter what, they would emerge from this even stronger for it.

Unable to suppress a slight grin as Korra brushed the debris and dust off of herself, Sokka nodded to her and Naga as they all three began to make their way through the next tunnel. As they began to descend the new path, it became increasingly clear that it was not especially well lit, but between the previous and next chambers, the light sources were more than enough that they could at least see where they were going. The floor was smooth, but at the very least, the path was mostly straight as they continued onward. Squinting a bit into the darkness ahead, Sokka stated, "Well, it's a little long, but at least it doesn't look like it goes on much M-OOOOORRREEE!"

Sokka's last word immediately turned into a surprised yell as he missed the sudden, sharp incline near the end of the tunnel. It wasn't exactly slippery, but he'd caught just the wrong step on it, causing him to fall and slide down it instead of being able to take it carefully. A short trip later, and he'd landed square on his rear into the next chamber, soon closing his right eye as he cringed and grunted from the impact. "Hnnngh…" Well, that could've been worse at least… and at least the large chamber appeared to be empty for the time being…
