    A New Kind of Bending

Post by Sokka on Sat Feb 08, 2014 6:31 pm

As the Avatar, Korra had the ability to bend all four of the elements. Following the cycle after the airbender and last Avatar, Aang, she was the next waterbender to take up the mantle. Avatars all had to learn to bend the four elements in the order of the cycle… in Korra's case, that was set to be water, earth, fire, and air. Back in her time in her and Sokka's world, she had done just that, having tapped into her airbending shortly before she had been pulled to the Breach. As part of the weakening effects everyone experienced upon being whisked to this new world though, Korra had not only lost some of her attack power, she had also had her three non-native bending styles locked. It was a relief that she had at least been able to keep her waterbending, but even so, that did not exactly make it any easy to contend with what ground she still had to regain.

And as far as ground went, that was exactly what she was set to regain first. Rather, she was set to work her way back towards her earthbending.

Earthbending was nothing new for Korra, but it had been nearly a year since she had been able to wield that element's power. Tapping back into her second bending style as well as building up her power once more was just one reason that the two friends had decided to head into the Boolean Mountains for a training adventure… another was for both of them to recover even more of their strength in general, and a third was to even better move past the confirmation that their new situation was permanent. More than all of that though, they were set just for a fun field trip together.

And if Korra regained her earthbending or at least got closer to it? Then that was even better than the great time they were already bound to have.

While Korra and Sokka rode through the grasslands and closer and closer to the mountains, they had both polished of their breakfasts before taking a little bit of time to tag-team rest just a bit more until they got to the foothills of their destination. With their appetites sated, their final bit of rest caught up, and their excitement steadily mounting, the two friends were wide awake and set to go once Naga brought them to the next leg of their journey.

"Okay, here we are… the Boolean Mountains. Let's head up on!"

With nearly as much enthusiasm as she had might, Naga carried both Korra and Sokka onwards and upwards, each step helping the three of them climb further through the impressive mountain range. As they began to gain more elevation, the plant life started to change bit by bit, but even with as rocky as the terrain was, the flora was anything but sparse. Even with his own energy still holding at the thought of what awaited them, Sokka was definitely able to appreciate the serenity that surrounded them on this trek, and that only came to a peak some time later once they emerged in a nice open area, small plants dotting the rocking landscape.

A quick look over to the side confirmed that they were not quite halfway up this particular mountain, but with the layout of the area, it looked like just the right spot to stop in. In their planning of this training trip, the two friends had reasoned out some good general areas to focus on near the caves, and it seemed that they had finally arrived in just the right one. Unable to suppress a grin as Korra slowed down Naga's steady pace, Sokka soon leapt off of the polar bear dog, unleashing a mighty stretch as soon as he got his footing.

"All right, we are HERE!" Sokka exclaimed, soon crossing his arms as he looked about their surroundings. There were plenty of stones, both loose and firmly attached to the mountain, a good showing of flora, a quiet stream nearby, and even the entrances to some of the caves just down an adjacent niche. In other words? They had arrived at the perfect training spot.

Turning around to Korra after studying the area a bit more, Sokka asked, "How does this look to you, Korra?"

Being without the other elements for so long had taught Korra something about appreciating the elements. Honestly, since she could bend most of them since she was real small, she had taken advantage of the fact that she could bend them, and she relied on her bending to solve a lot of problems thanks to it. Granted, even with just water she knew she could fall back sometimes on using it way too much, but without earth or fire to fall back on as well, she usually saved her waterbending for important things. She had somewhat learned the same when Amon had reduced her to just an airbender, but that hadn't lasted nearly as long as this had. It'd been a year since she had been able to bend earth, fire, or air. She'd be lying if she said she didn't miss it, and she wondered if she'd be able to pick them back up after being without them for so long. The good side to this though? She really appreciated her native element now.

With packed bags and full stomachs, they were finally ready to get this started. They didn't really know how long this little journey would last them, but she didn't see it lasting longer than a few days. With Naga coming along, they didn't have to worry about how she would be fed, chances were that she would be dining with them, on whatever they happened to catch! They'd brought a few things along too, but surely they could catch something out in the wilderness.

With Naga as their noble steed, they were off, riding through the grasslands, watching as their surroundings got progressively greener, denser, and hillier. Until finally it was a mountain range ahead of them, tall and quite impressive. "Definitely no turning back now!" Not that they would even want to. This had been in the works for far too long. The higher they went, the more Korra had to appreciate the sights. They'd been curious about these mountains for a while now, and it was good to finally get to check them out! Would they come across any creatures here? Have to fight any foes? Perhaps discover something new? They'd have to find out, wouldn't they?

Naga was urged to slow and she gratefully did, waiting for both teenagers to jump off of her back before she sat down and panted, catching her breath and relaxing. Korra stretched her arms and legs about, even giving her back a brief rub. They'd been sitting for a while after all, but now that they'd found this spot near some caves, almost halfway up the mountain, it seemed like the best place to stop and explore. "Hmm..." She stepped forward and craned her head to inspect the surrounding area. Lots of plantlife, a stream that Naga was now drinking at, and the aforementioned caves. "It looks great! Where to first, Sokka?" He was the planner between them, after all! Though no matter what he said, she was ready.

As the two friends rode closer and closer to their destination, it was hard to tell which one of them was more excited. Given how much they had both been looking forward to this as well as the way their energy seemed to replenish itself as the began their climb up the mountains, it was probably safe to say that they were pretty much even. Neither of them knew what might lie ahead… well, save a good time together and a beneficial training trip.

Once the two had dismounted and were getting more or less settled in the cleft they'd arrived in, Sokka smiled at Korra's response, inwardly feeling rather glad that they'd ended up in just the right place. It seemed even better than any of the general points the two had learned about in the brochures and books they'd perused! With a quick glance to Naga as the polar bear dog moved to take a well-deserved drink from the stream, Sokka turned back to Korra, stating, "Well, since we've got a nice, wide clearing here, I was thinking maybe we could explore for a little bit to get a good feel for the area, then maybe start some of our training and sparring exercises. How does that sound?"

As soon as Korra and Naga were set, Sokka was moved to start getting a better look at their surroundings, making note of where would be a good spot to set up camp once it got later, double-checking to make sure there were no extremely hazardous fissures or drop-offs they might wind up falling down, and just generally enjoying getting to check out this new place. In some ways, it reminded Sokka of many of the rockier, more granite-based areas he had traveled through during his journey across the Earth Kingdom, but there was still something new and exciting about it.

Speaking of new, the young warrior soon found himself stopping in his tracks, his blue gaze honing in on a different cave… one that wasn't by the cluster he and Korra had first spotted as soon as they arrived here. It was situated near the other side of the stream, but it was difficult to tell just how deep it went from their current vantage point. Blinking as he folded his arms, Sokka found his own curiosity rising the longer he looked at the mouth of the cave… and as he focused a bit more on it, he discovered that nothing was setting his instincts off about it. Now that much was definitely a good sign.

"Hey Korra… look." At that, Sokka jumped across the stream and turned back to his friend with a raised eyebrow. Motioning towards the cave with his head, he then asked, "What do you think of this?" It was definitely intriguing, and who knew? It was underground, so maybe it could help her better tap back into her earthbending!

Between the two of them and their polar bear dog pal, they had a lot of energy and excitement over this trip. No matter what happened they were going to face it head on! They'd face it together and it was going to be a great time! In any case it sure beat moping about the Inn. The Inn was great but they all needed this, a chance to stretch their legs and have fun, do something that didn't have anything to do with their missing friends. Korra knew that time out of the room would be good for her as well, and Naga would appreciate getting to explore the Wilderness.

Only after gulping down a great amount of water did Naga look up and smell the surrounding area, nose twitching and itching to learn about this place they had come to. Korra in the meantime brought her arms up and folded them behind her head as Sokka responded. "That's a good idea, the more we know about this area the less we have to worry about." At least in terms of accidentally stumbling upon something unfortunate. She needed to brush up on some of her earth-bending and fire-bending forms anyway. Even if she couldn't bend the element she'd have to remember the moves.

The two went their separate ways in investigating the area, Korra made her way over to Naga and looked around with her. If this place could hold Naga's weight plus the two of them than that meant they probably didn't have to worry about a landslide or the little clearing collapsing out from under them. She kneeled down and brushed a palm over the ground, it was quite smooth, really. It'd make for a good place for them to sleep! No rocks pricking them in the back, nope. She turned her head to look at Sokka when he called out, her own eyebrow raised. Standing to her full height, she joined him in hopping across the stream, Naga not far behind.

"Think of what?" She looked where he was looking, eyes squinting to focus. The mouth of a cave...not any of the caves they had first seen upon coming here either. This was all by itself, secluded. Mysterious... "I didn't see this on the maps or books, did you?" She looked to him, confused and a little concerned.

Around their confirming that this was definitely a perfect area to stake as their main site for a while, the two friends still had one mystery that they had not quite expected… namely a simple, nondescript cave that had somehow escaped their notice until now. As Korra caught his question and motion, Sokka soon folded his arms and looked back to the mouth of the cave, studying it a bit more to see if anything really stood out to him about it. Strangely enough, nothing did. It was just… kind of there.

"No, I didn't," stated Sokka, turning to Korra and shaking his head slightly. He knew very well that the terrain of the Breach was about as dynamic as the pattern of people being brought to it was, but this was certainly one of the more intriguing examples of such… especially since it was so simple. If the two were less curious, they might not have noticed it at all, but now that they had, it all but seemed to beckon them. "I know the books might not have listed everything, but it's still interesting that this one is off to the side. Or maybe… this is just a new area that's been brought to the Breach."

Sokka pondered that possibility for a few moments longer, looking back to the cave around that before glancing back to Korra. He was able to pick up on her confusion and slight concern, but even around his own bemusement, he still found his own natural curiosity in it to be steadily growing. A grin slowly tugged at his features, and with a raised eyebrow, he asked, "Do you wanna check it out?"

Her arms folded. So Sokka hadn't seen this on any of the maps either? Hmm...she gave the cave another scrutinizing look. Besides being something they hadn't expected to see, it really didn't look all that suspicious. Mysterious a bit, yes. But nothing seemed to stick out and point to this thing being dangerous. It looked like...well, a normal cave. The concern ebbed away at the lack of a threat. This little cave was a little off to the side...it'd be easy to overlook it. Maybe that was why it hadn't been in any of the books.

"I'm betting you're right, that this is new...if new people can come here, I think new places can too." Easily overlooked, a new place, and she doubted many people came this way on a regular basis. This thing was undiscovered. They could be the first people to explore it. They could be its Discoverer's! At Sokka's grin, Korra grinned wider. "Do I?! Of course!" She looped an arm around his shoulders and marched her way to the cave, Naga following behind them with her tail wagging.

"I can't wait to see what's inside!" Was there treasure inside? A foe or two to fight? Perhaps someone who needed help from two Water Tribe teens?

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure they can… I've definitely heard about a couple of places that have been brought here." And that fact about new areas stood regardless of the previous existence of the Castle That Never Was. He'd learned of a few places here and there namely from his friends and fellow residents at the inn, but this was the first time he had come across one himself that didn't seem connected to outside events. More than that, given the look of the cave… it didn't seem hat anyone else had come across it yet.

At Korra's grin and exclamation, Sokka laughed as he soon found her arm around his shoulders. Once more, the two friends proved they were very similar in mind! "Ha-ha, perfect. Onward then!" His own curiosity finding itself piqued even more, Sokka strode up towards the cave alongside Korra, with Naga close right behind them.

Getting a better look for the mouth of the cave as they approached it, Sokka nodded strongly at Korra's voiced sentiment. "Yeah, neither can I!" He wasn't quite sure what they might find inside, but no matter what, he was definitely looking forward to finding out.

Before too long, the trio entered the cave. Its entrance was mostly even and flat for the first several steps, but there was soon a steady incline that carried them a little deeper into it. The light from outside was still filtering in pretty well, even past Naga's impressive form, but before too long, they could tell that there was another source of soft light coming from within the cavern. A few steps later, and Korra, Sokka, and Naga emerged into a wider room, one that was mostly empty save some old pots lining the walls, a pair of torches near the back wall, and a stone pedestal placed between them.

As Sokka looked about the chamber, he noticed that just beyond the pedestal was a stone door, one that seemed to be sealed shut with no readily obvious way of opening it. Save that, as he studied everything before them, the only thing that really stood out to him was the time-worn inscription on top of the pedestal. Everything in here was so… simple, yet at the same time, all the more fascinating.

"Wow…" Sokka stepped forward, still taking everything in as he tried to see if there were any other clues as to just what this place was. He slowly neared the torches, noting that they seemed to have burning for a while, but that they did not appear to be going out any time soon. Well, at least they would have a good source of light no matter how long they were down here, and whether or not they could see if there were any ways to proceed deeper inside.

Casting a passing glance at the pedestal as he turned back to his friend, Sokka sighed in wonder before grinning, noting, "All right, I don't know if there's a way to open that door or not, but all of this is pretty neat."

She looked to Sokka curiously. So that was a usual thing here after all. How weird for a cave from some other place to just appear here, but also interesting. "If it is from some other place, it has to have something interesting inside." Otherwise, why add another cave to an already plentiful cave area? Either way, it would be a very interesting little detour. "Yes, onward!" She held out one hand as if she were holding a sword, directing it towards the mouth of the cave as they began to approach it. Both teens were excited to begin their trek and to see what lied before them. As the two crossed into the mouth of the cave, Naga lagged behind to sniff at the cave's entrance. It was only a slight delay before she began to saunter behind them, bringing up the rear.

The trail began pretty plat but began to take them upwards steadily. The sunlight kept with them for a while, but the deeper in they went, the more they noticed another light source. Something much softer than sunlight. Before too long, they stepped out into a wide and vacant room. "Wow...I wonder who made this..." Someone had to have made it, right? Something like this seemed far too even to have just developed this way. She looked around, there were some pots, two torches, and a pedestal between them. Following Sokka's lead though, she soon noticed the door. Stone, very formidable too. It would not be easy to smash down. She inspected the pedestal, but the only thing on there looked to be some weird scribbles. Nothing she recognized, at least.

"Yeah, its very mysterious down here! Like its waiting for us to figure out its secrets." She looked back to the door and narrowed her eyes. If she had her Earthbending, she might have been able to just bend it open. Though that did make her think. "Maybe we could force it open by pushing it open. It doesn't seem to have any handles for us to pull, so maybe we just need to push. Very very hard." She offered with a slight shrug. Naga in the meantime was investigating the pots, sticking her snout in one and sniffing curiously.

Sokka simply grinned at Korra's musing about the cave having something interesting inside of it, right before nodding in agreement. Even some of the simpler and even mundane areas of the Breach tended to be interesting, especially if one knew where to look… and the intrepid duo here just so happened to be masters of searching and investigating.

In short order, Korra, Sokka, and Naga had entered the cave, their path soon leading them into the much wider and decently lit entry chamber. The combination of the light from the two stone torches provided a somewhat surprising amount of illumination in here, and although Sokka had packed a couple of spare torches for their training adventure, he was admittedly glad that they did not have to break them out just yet. As Korra expressed her own curiosity about the chamber, he could only look around more himself before noting, "Yeah… me too…"

Laughing a bit at Korra's remark about how the cave was waiting for them to discover any of its potential secrets, Sokka just nodded to her before looking to the door himself. He placed his left hand on the central part of it, carefully running it over the surface to see if he could find any hidden panels or narrow openings in it. Even with some of the markings on it, he couldn't seem to find anything that might shed a clue on opening it, but his continued study of it soon caused him to hum in contemplation.

When Korra suggested pushing it, Sokka did just that with his hand, to absolutely no avail. "Maybe…" Since his first push didn't seem to be working, he soon placed his left shoulder on the door and began to push with all of his might. "HN! … GH!HNNNNGH!!" Nothing. With a big sigh, Sokka stood back up from where he'd tried to move the door, right before he looked to Korra with a shake of his head. "It's not budging, and I don't think we could get it to even if you and Naga joined in. It's not only solid, it's thick."

Around his efforts with the door and Naga's checking out the pots though, it seemed that something had missed his eye a minute ago. Blinking as he looked at the pedestal just past Korra, Sokka exclaimed, "Hey, look! The mark at the top of this tablet… it matches the ones on the door."

That was the only thing he could make out though, but the rest thankfully seemed to just be covered in a nice layer of dust. Taking a deep breath, Sokka moved to blow over the surface of the tablet as hard as he could, not without a few coughs from the result of his action, though. Still, maybe NOW they'd be able to make out something on it. He'd closed his eyes from where he was waving the lingering dust out of his face, but a moment later, he noted, "Maybe there's a clue on there."

Whoever made this thing was very thorough. The floor was quite smooth, not rocky. Neither of them were tripping over any dips in the floor or hidden rocks, though the lighting from the torches may have helped with that as well! With the torches hanging up on the wall, not unlike a light fixture they'd find in the Inn, it made it seem more and more obvious that someone built this instead of it being a naturally made area. For what, was the question. What was beyond that door? A home? Hopefully not, whoever owned this place, were he still here, might not be so happy that they were inside...

Korra stepped closer and inspected the door as well. While Sokka felt for any hidden slots, hitches and flaps on it, she just inspected it visually. Sure did look thick. She traced a finger along one groove of the door before removing it as Sokka tried to push it open. Yep, nothing. He put more into it, incorporating his shoulder and pushing as hard as he could. Before she could offer to help he stopped, stating that he thought even with her own muscles and Naga's polar bear dog's natural strength to help, the door would stay shut stubbornly. "Monkeyfeathers!" She followed that up with a stubborn kick to the door. Seeing how it was a stone door though, the kick was pretty soft, though not less ticked. "Hmph...what are they trying to keep away, anyways? Who makes a door that can't be opened?" Someone who wants to torture curious people, that's who.

"Hm?" She looked back to Sokka, who noticed something about the tablet of the pedestal. She walked over to join him, squinting down at it. "Hey, you're right. I didn't notice that!" Perhaps they were connected? With a burst of air that would make an airbender jealous, Sokka cleared away some dust to reveal more inscriptions. Korra coughed once or twice, waving her hand in front of her face, but was otherwise quite safe from the dust. "Maybe!" She leaned in closer to where the dust had been cleared away and quickly grinned. "I don't know about a clue, but there's some writing! Normal writing!" She moved to the side so he could see, before deciding to read it out loud.

"To go forth and test your might, you must trade with one to your right. Place your hands upon this seal, then enter to claim power real." She paused, face scrunching up questioningly. To continue, they must trade something. With one to their right? Sokka was to her right... "What do you think we have to trade? I don't really have much..." Place their hands upon the seal, then enter to claim power real. Now power, that sounded pretty good. "Ah, we can worry about trading later! Lets put our hands on this thing, and go get some power." Earthbending, here she comes!

Even though he was a bit perplexed as to just how stubborn the stone door was being, Sokka couldn't help but smile a little at Korra's exclamation. To say the least, it was pretty aggravating to find a door that couldn't' be opened, but by the same token, it only made him all the more curious as to what could be behind it. At Korra's questions, Sokka regarded the door with a bit more scrutiny before stating, "I'm not sure… but whatever it is, it's either really dangerous, or really valuable. Maybe we can find a hint around here though…"

Sure enough, Sokka's attention was soon drawn to the pedestal next to Korra, and after he'd cleared the dust away, she was quick to inform him that there was some writing on the tablet. Blinking as he cleared his eyes from the dust, he asked, "Yeah? What's it say?"

At that, Korra took the chance to read the inscription on the tablet out loud for them. With each line read, Sokka found his own mind wondering about the full meaning behind it, to the point where once he was able to see properly, he shifted his blue gaze to the tablet as well to check it. "Hm…" Bringing a hand up to his chin as he puzzled over these words, he took a few moments to mentally sort it out, right before he moved to speak again. "It's a challenge… think about it. To go forth and test our might. Testing our might means there's likely a set of trials or something beyond this door. As for trading, we have to trade with each other… I'm to your right, and in a circle, you're back on mine. We can only go forward by trading something and placing our hands on the seal… once we do, then we can face whatever lies beyond the door. As for claiming power… well, whether there's something tangible or not back there, one of the ways we regain our strength here is to challenge ourselves, right?"

Grinning a bit as he realized that whatever awaited them past the immovable door might help both of them tap back into their true power, Sokka let Korra mull over his words for a few moments before he blinked at her question about trading. "I don't know, actually…" Before he could spend too much time thinking about it though, in true Korra Style, she noted that they could handle the trading after they put their hands on the tablet. Unable to suppress a chuckle at that, Sokka nodded strongly as he stated, "Sounds like a plan to me. And nothing ventured, nothing gained… let's tackle this together, for the Water Tribe!"

Sharing a smile with Korra, Sokka took a deep breath before he moved to place his right hand on top of the tablet simultaneously with her. At first, it did not appear that anything special was happening, but a few moments later, the tablet began to glow a strange lilac hue, right before it suddenly burst into a blindingly bright light. Sokka quickly moved to shield his eyes, but a moment later, the pedestal sent out a powerful energy wave, and both he and Korra were knocked well away from the door, flat on their backs.

"GAH!" Sokka landed with a thud, but even though he hadn't quite hit his head… everything started to become fuzzy, right before it faded to black…

Dangerous or valuable, huh? Could even be both. "Nothing's too dangerous or valuable for us!" Not a single thing! Keep your doors shut, stubborn...maker of doors, but they would find a way! Oh yes, they would find a way to get it open. Even if the clue to open it was really quite confusing. Korra read aloud the inscription for Sokka, who became pretty contemplative as he thought it over. "A challenge?!" She asked with a grin, no lack of enthusiasm in her tone or face.

A set of trials beyond the door, and something to be traded amongst the two of them. Sokka was right, continuing in a circle she was technically on Sokka's right. To go forward they had to trade something and touch the seal. Apparently that would open the door. And the last thing he said was definitely pleasing. "Yeah, even if we don't get anything a set of trials are sure to challenge us and get us some strength!" Like a really good work out! "I wonder what exactly we're expected to trade with each other..." Could be anything. If worse comes to worse they could just grab any old thing and hand it over, right? That would technically be a trade. Sokka had no real clue either.

He seemed to like her idea of trading afterwards quite fine! It wasn't like the cave was going to know any differently, right? Its not like it could sense whether they had really traded after all. "Yeah, for the Water Tribe!" Both of their hands were upon the seal! Though...nothing seemed to happen. At first, at least. The tablet lit up with a lilac hue, Korra's eyebrows lifting in slight surprise. Did they break it? Her eyes scrunched tightly though when the lilac became white, shining waaay too bright! "So-" A wave suddenly struck them, sending them away from the door and each other. She let out a slight yell as she skidded to a stop on her back, vision beginning to turn black, and quickly. Something had gone wrong.

    ---

Korra groaned a shifted as consciousness finally came back to her. She placed both of her hands atop her face and let out an even louder groan. "Sok-" She stopped, brows furrowing beneath her hands. "...Sok...Sok...Sokka...?" That was...weird. Her voice didn't...sound right. It sounded...deeper than usual. She lifted herself onto one elbow, free hand gently smacking the side of her head. Maybe it was the fall, maybe she just wasn't hearing herself right. "Sokka?" She tried again and...nope, still sounded off. But that wasn't important, what was important was her friend!

She got to her feet, though she swayed uneasily on her feet. The very weight in her body seemed to have shifted. Had to just be the blow on the head that knocked her out, right? Just to be sure, she checked her body over. Arms, a little...beefier than she remembered them being, but eh. Hands, also...different. Once she looked down though she let out a very audible gasp. "HUH?!" She crossed her arms over her chest, a little disturbed by how...flat it was. "How?!" She looked down at her body and turned about in a circle, noting every single detail before her mind came to a conclusion. A deeper voice, a flat chest, beefy arms and larger hands? Korra was...a man.

"SOKKA! SOKKA!" Why was she a man?! This was wrong, all wrong! Her clothes were still the same, but she was a man! Did this mean--she looked around the room and found where Sokka had landed, running to the body and giving it a shake. From the angle he had landed, she couldn't tell if he was still himself or if...he was now a woman. "Sokka, wake up! Right now! Something happened!"

Re: A New Kind of Bending

Post by Sokka on Sat Apr 12, 2014 2:51 am

Sometime later, Sokka started to stir. He didn't know if he'd been out for several seconds or longer than a few minutes, but at the very least, save his vision still blurring as he started to blink back to wakefulness, he seemed to feel all right. He'd managed to roll over onto his right side after being knocked flat on his back, but even as he tried to get his bearings, he started to try to mentally assess his condition as he recalled what had happened.

He was faintly aware of Korra moving around a little behind him, and he blinked heavily as he thought he'd caught the sound of her voice calling his name. That… that was Korra, wasn't it? The voice didn't entirely sound like hers, though… but maybe that was just his head still trying to clear itself from where he'd been knocked out. Either way, he was just glad to hear her… that was at least one likely indication that they were okay enough from whatever the heck had happened with that seal.

"Korra…" mumbled Sokka, his brow furrowing mere seconds after he'd uttered his friend's name. "… Korra?" That was weird… maybe he was groggier than he thought from having been knocked back by that pedestal, but whether he was or not, he couldn't help but wonder now just why his voice had sounded… higher pitched. Had that blow messed up his hearing?

As strange as that was on its own, as he laid there on his side for the moment, he was soon able to tell that he also felt… a little lighter than he normally did. Maybe he really was still disoriented, but as his vision began to clear, that seemed increasingly unlikely. … more than that lighter sensation though… what was this pressure he was feeling on his right arm? Nothing should have been there, but…

Before he could glance down at his frame to see just what in the world he was sensing, Sokka jolted slightly as a very stunned Korra called his name with even greater urgency. That really was Korra, right? The tone was still there even if his perception of her voice was messed up, and his guess was further proven when she was suddenly by his side shaking him by the shoulder. Something happened? Yeah, something had happened all right… that seal on the pedestal had shot out a bright flash of light and wave of energy at them, landing them a good distance from it, and they were just now coming to.

Still, he wasn't going to figure out what all was going on much less if Korra was okay if he continued to lay there. "Nnnngh…" groaned Sokka as he drew up his shoulders and rolled a bit forward, soon moving to prop himself up with his left hand and right arm. He closed his eyes tightly for a few moments before opening them again, asking, "Korra, are you all right?"

Around blinking in confusion at catching the very different sound of his voice once more, it was then that Sokka fully focused on what he had felt a moment ago as he glanced down slightly. "What…?" … his chest. The Water Tribe warrior was pretty muscular, but even his toned pectorals weren't… … … … no. No, wait a minute… just… no… that… those weren't…

… no, his haori had just gotten a bit disheveled when he had been knocked back. That… that was all it was, right? … … … but as he was effectively sitting up now albeit still facing away from Korra, he could tell that it had fallen into place. However, whilst his clothes were all the same, his top was definitely fitting… differently. Tentatively, Sokka padded at the sides of his chest by moving his upper arms a bit closer inward, soon realizing that in addition to toned muscles, he was definitely seeing as well as feeling a soft, light weight there… on each side… almost as if… he had… as if he were… No. No NO NO!

It couldn't be… but… it was… no. He had to be sure, though. Drawing his head back a bit in disbelief, Sokka glanced down a touch more, taking a nervous gulp as he did so, hoping that he was just imagining all of this. This slightly different vantage point had confirmed just what he'd felt though, and with a gasp, his left hand soon flew to the side of his head out of surprise. At that point though, the feel of the different, no-so-close shaven style of his hair caused his eyes to widen further. That added to a higher pitched voice, lither frame, slightly smaller hands, and two unmentionable qualities… it all confirmed his fear here. He was a girl.

"AAAH!" This was… they were…. this was real. "What in the--?!… wait, I sound like Suki!" exclaimed Sokka, his eyes going even wider as he registered even more of the change in his voice with this greater volume. Just what was happening here?! He quickly righted himself fully, sitting upright as his mind raced to figure this out. Like Korra had said, something had DEFINITELY happened. Wait… "Korra! Are you--" Sokka's voice trailed off the instant he whipped his head around to catch sight of his friend. His mouth dropped open a little and his eyes widened a bit more as he saw that from the look of things… Korra had not fared any better here.

Her form was different, just as his own was, but even though this was very clearly a guy kneeling next to him, he could immediately tell that this was his best friend. She had been changed, the same as he had. "Oh no… Korra, are… well, aside from this, are you okay?!" They might have both woken up to something that was stranger than strange, but regardless of their currently being the wrong genders, he still wanted to make sure that she hadn't been injured or anything.

With the motions she had to take in order to go to Sokka's side, she became a little too aware of how differently her clothes fit now, too. Her pelt wrap and pants were a little baggier around her hips, and tighter around her legs. Her boots were quite snug as well. Her shirt got off somewhat easy, since she didn't wear sleeves, though around her chest it was a little loose. Her armbands were a little uncomfortably tight though, and she managed to pry all three of them off and shove them in a pocket. They might have been distinctively a part of her, but if they were going to be uncomfortable and threaten to break, they weren't much use for her.

She could hear Sokka speaking, calling out for her and she winced at the voice. Unless he injured his throat, it sounded like he had been changed, too! "I'm...fine. Relatively fine. Are you alright?" His hair was definitely longer than before, and his body was...fuller. He let out a loud yell, startling Korra a bit and eliciting a yelp from her, yelping again when he sat up fully and she saw just how much her friend had changed. "Sokka!" He looked her way and...yep. Yep, she definitely must have been a man, because he looked shocked. "Considering we both got blasted by some light and sent flying away from each other...yeah. Surprisingly, I'm okay. Are you? Do you need help standing?"

A sudden whine drew Korra's attention to the polar bear dog by the wall, who seemed a little uneasy about the two Water Tribe teenagers. One moment they had been hit by a blast of some kind, the next they seemed completely different. They didn't smell the same at all! Tentatively, Naga took a few steps forward and sniffed Korra's outstretched hand. "Its alright, girl..." A thought hit her and she soon squinted at the furry companion. "You...are still a girl, right?" A brief check told her that yes, Naga was still female. She wrapped her arms around Naga's head and stroked her fur. "Its alright girl, its still us. We just...changed. We...traded our genders." A brief jolt of panic hit her, would they be stuck like this forever? Was she going to have to get used to being a man? Would they be turned back to normal eventually, or not? "We'll...we'll be okay. Right, Sokka?" She turned to the Water Tribe female, still trying to get used to the sight of a feminine Sokka. If that's what Sokka looked like as a woman...how did she look as a man? She brought up one hand to feel her face, noting the different chin structure, though she laughed a bit as Naga licked her face, tail wagging.

    "That-a-girl."

Re: A New Kind of Bending

Post by Sokka on Tue Apr 15, 2014 12:41 am

"I… I think so…" replied Sokka as he had propped himself up partially on his side. He was glad to hear that Korra was okay, even if both of their voices sounded strange to his ears, yet as he started to confirm just what had happened to him, that feeling quickly shifted to stunned concern. As he called Korra's name before trailing off at seeing just what had happened to her, his friend in turn yelped his own name, showing that she was just as surprised by seeing the changes to him as he was the ones to her. Somehow, he'd been changed into a girl, and she'd been turned into a man. Wait… they'd both changed into the opposite gender… they'd effectively swapped their genders. It had been entirely involuntary, but the exchange had still happened… they'd… traded with each other.

A look of dawning appeared in his eyes as he continued to stare at Korra for a few moments, right before he sighed a bit in relief as she confirmed that she was okay from where they'd been knocked back. He nodded to her, both at her response as well as to show that save their current predicament, he was all right. "Yeah, I'm fine… and thanks, but I should be able to stand." He had been thrown for a loop, but physically, he felt that he could make it to his feet. Before he could though, he perked up at catching Naga's whine, soon looking over to the polar bear dog and noting just how uncertain she seemed about the two of them. "It's okay, Naga… we're still us."

As Korra held out her hand and tried to soothe her companion's mind, Sokka took the chance to try and stand, his lighter frame and shifted weight throwing him off at first as he got his balance. From where he'd been laying on his side, Sokka hadn't been quite able to tell the full extent of how his outfit was fitting him a bit more loosely for the most part, much less the tighter fit he now registered around the chest region of his haori. As Korra checked on Naga's general state, he continued to check over himself, looking down at his arms and hands, inwardly feeling a little grateful that despite the slightly more lithe build he had, that his gloves and bandages around his forearms were still fitting pretty well… he probably had the bandages to thank for the biggest part of that, but right now, he would take anything he could get… especially considering his top. Speaking of which, he glanced downward for a few moments before blushing a bit and quickly moving to readjust his haori to secure himself up there better than he already was.

Since he'd lost some of his broader frame in this change, his pants were thankfully not too loose in most areas, and between his fuller hips and the adjustments he made with his belt, they seemed like they'd be just fine. His boots didn't quite fit the same right now, but at least they weren't so loose as to be problematic for as long as they were stuck like this. As Korra moved to hug Naga and reassure her, Sokka looked to them with a soft sigh, still finding it incredibly hard to believe that this had happened… and of course that that was what Korra looked like as a guy. With a slow nod as she noted just what they had traded, Sokka looked down to his hands once more, inwardly wondering just how that pedestal had done this, and more than that, if they would be stuck like this for good. He was admittedly a little worried about that, but before his mind could race too far, his friend snapped him back from it with her next question.

Looking back to Korra as she turned to him, Sokka steeled himself and straightened his posture, making sure that his voice was steady before he stated, "Of course we'll be okay. Be it this cave or something else all together, I promise you that we'll find a way to reverse this." He didn't know how they would, but we was fully determined to… and Naga's own brand of reassurance added to that. At seeing this, he couldn't help but smile a bit, right before he moved to gently rub the polar bear dog's muzzle. "I'm glad you're all right, Naga."
