Just as the AI had warned his driver, it appeared that regardless of the pale man's intent the ghoul was going to leave the safety of his cockpit anyway. All prior offers of taking Bloodscream to a cliff were tossed aside as Judge Fear leaped from his sunroof and onto their adversary. Both rolled before getting to their feet, the Dark Judge swinging a mantrap about as if to use it as a set of brass knuckles. Alas, while the ghoul was quite confident in his abilities, Bloodscream had other plans, effectively evading the blow before grappling the undead.

It took but a single scan of his driver to know where this fight was going, bones crumpling and snapping upon impact with the ground. If the man continued any further, Judge Fear would be without a body, again. And it would leave the AI to have to face this stranger alone. Neither of which KARR wished to deal with after having narrowly escaped Lochlann. Various plans and their possible outcomes ran through his processor, many ending rather poorly on their end or simply not doing much to sway their circumstance in any sort of favor to either side before he came to a conclusion.

While the AI had been content with snapping a few bones to prove a small point, the Dark Judge appeared to be rather zealous and stubborn in his vendetta. The both of them had to be separated and kept still, but how? Bloodscream proved to be too strong to keep down on his own, and even if he did manage to halt the Dark Judge's body, he may simply leave it to antagonize the pale man further in a state that KARR could not track.

    Unless...

KARR's optics went to the nearby trees, massive and snow laden to the point of their branches bowing from its weight. Perhaps all they needed was to be startled out of this blood hungry stupor. His targeting systems aiming at the lower trunk of a large conifer, the AI revved its engines and raced towards the tree before quickly pulling his body into a sideways slide.

    THUMP!

The tree shuddered for a brief instant, before another sound could be heard above the sounds of Jude Fear and Bloddscream's skirmish. Snow, tons of it, fell from the tree's expansive branches, threatening to drown them both in it's pristine, heavy chill.

Yet again this was a losing battle. Yet again the Dark Judge found his current state of affairs utterly abysmal.

It was true that Judge Fear was a zealous ghoul; with the good work seemingly endless and the tide of sin constant and provocative, taking a moment to pause in his task was almost illogical. Nay, unthinkable. That said...

The towering undead was roughly thrown down onto the earth, a jarring sound of bones grinding against one another loudly apparent. Incredible! Even this mercenary, Bloodscream, could overpower the likes of Judge Fear with but two hands. No doubt this was the vexing work of Portal Breach and all its wonderful stipulations... That said, the Dark Judge was beginning to think that the usual methods of cleansing wickedness would have to be thoroughly reworked. Not now, however. Not now, because K.A.R.R. had thought to break up the graveyard bash with a plentiful helping of snow. Immediately the ghoul rolled off to the side and leaped to his feet with not a moment to spare, avoiding the miniature avalanche entirely.

    THUMP!

Judge Fear extremely doubted that his ally wished to do the two fighting aberrations in, but one could never be certain when self-preservation protocols were on the line. Ergo, and knowing that nothing of value will come of this, the Dark Judge uncharacteristically stayed his hand and used this distraction to his advantage. "Enough," he hissed, forfeiting this worthless fight. Bloodscream's fate will be met in the years to come. Turning to his pale attacker and not appearing to have been impeded by the mercenary's previous blow, it was now time to make the most of this lull.

"We have done what you asked; the demon was found in Lochlann and coaxed from its lair," Judge Fear continued. Their end of the bargain had been fulfilled, and Bloodscream's? The Dark Judge had to wonder if the mercenary had played them for fools, creating an elaborate lie regarding Mar's mob, but they may never know for sure. "Our business with you is concluded, mercenary. State your parting words or we shall depart for the wilds and think no more of you and your fool's gambit."

That demon was more trouble than it was worth, personally.

    THUMP!

Did that car just run itself into a tree? Bloodscream glances out of the corner of his eye at the automobile. Just what was that car trying to do? Was it malfunctioning? Had the stress of the situation fried its' programming. The malfunctioning car aside, there was still the issue of Judge Fear. The Dark Judge having the skills enough to survive, or simply being that durable all around. No matter, even if he was durable, Bloodscream would break him down. Wear and tear down his defenses. Or at least he would have, if not for judge fear stepping forward to put a stop to the fight himself.

Judge Fear wrote:"Enough. We have done what you asked; the demon was found in Lochlann and coaxed from its lair. Our business with you is concluded, mercenary. State your parting words or we shall depart for the wilds and think no more of you and your fool's gambit."

Tch. This was not what he had been expecting, and there was a part of him that wished to spit in the face of the dark judge, then run the man through with his swords. However Bloodscream was a business man, first and foremost. He would not give in to his anger like some primal animal. He would maintain control. So, he relented, sheathing his blades and then removing the man trap from his chest.

"I have none for thee, the deal is done. For your time I thank thee, but shouldst I ever see thee again I shall carve thine head from thine shoulders And he meant it. Bloodscream sheathed his swords and slowly turned, heading deeper and deeper into the forest. He had to get back to the city and relay some information.

Yes, the car just did run itself into a tree, and brought down a good amount of snow along with its impact. Much to the AI's relief, it appeared that the Dark Judge's interests had been discouraged and their own preservation, though temporary, was hopefully ensured. KARR pulled away from the tree, a few dollops of snow that had landed on his paneling lingering as he drove about to the Dark Judge's side. The AI decided to remain silent as the ghoul had made his say, finding that he made clear all that needed be.

Only when Bloodscream had made his say and retreated back into the forest did the AI speak up at last. "The snow was the only plausible way to break up your fight without drawing attention from Lochlann." KARR explained, methodical as he kept surveillance on the pale man until he was out of range. "Otherwise the possibility of losses for myself and you were too high for any other involvement." If the man could snap Judge Fear's bones as if they were mere twigs, one could only imagine what he could do to the AI's own body, especially in its weakened state as it was. He doubted that Bloodscream could get past the paneling on his own, but the internal damages from blunt force... There were some things that were best left to a technician, and the AI did not wish to return to the shop so early.

The driver's side door opened with a click, the Dark Judge's seat and the colorful glow of the vehicle's dashboard beckoning. "We should get moving before that creature we just faced gets any ideas to give chase." KARR advised, keeping his scanners on the path they had taken into the forest. It had seemed rather dogged in getting rid of them both, it would not be surprising if the beast in that fishing village had decided to try and finish what was started. Especially given what it could conjure up before Judge Fear had enraged it.

A rather unsatisfying conclusion to this skirmish but one not entirely without reason. Judge Fear withdrew his bloodied mantrap and let the pale man have his leave, Bloodscream - along with his threat - no longer the Dark Judge's concern. "I await the day judgement calls upon you, sinner." And when that day comes, whenever it may be, the ghoul will not be far behind. That much he promised. But it was not that fated day and, like so many others who were spared the Dark Judge's righteous fury due to Portal Breach's circumstances, there were more pressing matters that required his undivided attention. The demon in Lochlann was still much too near for comfort and K.A.R.R.'s point was valid. Staying here any longer was nothing short of idiotic.

"Then let us be rid of this place and the creature that dwells within," Judge Fear hissed. Let them be rid the mercenary's unwise agenda and allow his superiors to sort out the details themselves. It was, after all, their funeral. He heard the inviting click of K.A.R.R.'s door and did not waste another second, the ghoul sliding within. "To the farm," he said, "where there is much to reflect." And much to improve.

It was time to bury the hatchet and think no more of this sickly village.

Indeed, the time was not right for them yet, but when they had managed to grow stronger...

KARR awaited the ghoul's presence within his cockpit before shutting the door, this time not so abruptly. While the threat still lingered within the fishing village, he detected nothing closing upon their heels yet. Although that could change within moments if they decided to linger here. About now, returning to the farm to recharge and think over their newly created adversary sounded much more appealing, as Judge Fear had been quick to voice. The vehicle's engines growled before swiftly raising into the characteristic whine of a turbine, tires crunching over snow and through the frozen underbrush of the forest. "Very well, our approximate arrival time will be ten minutes." KARR replied, a hint of contentment showing in his otherwise collected speech.

Weaving between trees and breaking through dense foliage, KARR did not take long before reaching the cracked roadway, pushing his power output to optimal as they passed on to more used and kept routes before engaging pursuit mode. In an instant the two-tone Trans-Am became a streak of black and silver as it raced across the open road, the cockpit silent for the remainder of the journey.

Although, for a short moment the AI's internal optics rested on the Dark Judge thoughtfully, the events of today tumbling about his processors as he drove. Perhaps, if only in a smaller part of their being, they were more similar than he had initially thought.

    Run, run, run...
Where were you going, trespassers? Where were you going where Hell cannot follow?

In the center of Lochlann's town square did the demon remain, its myriad of plated arms outstretched as a raucous murder of crows circled high overhead. It saw you, trespassers... It saw everything through the eyes of many and your actions here, on its very soil, will not go unpunished. With one elegant hand the demon beckoned for a single crow to rest upon its spiny finger, eyes smoldering in amusement. So... Bloodscream and his ilk have thought to enlist the aid of a psychic capable of instilling fear, Diablo whispered into darkness. The crow let out a loud cry and thereby confirmed the demon's thoughts. Very well, let them believe that they have an advantage over a Lord of Hell. The ambition in a man's heart can be manipulated all the same, beating or otherwise. What an interesting turn of events this day had brought...

The demon casually flicked its hand away and dismissed its feathered servant, its infernal sights directed at the invisible city that lay territories beyond its own. How coy of Bloodscream to find a creature on this forsaken earth that could imitate terror in all its fascinating uses. Such ingenuity was to be rewarded and the Lord of Hell could think of nothing better than to further torment its inquisitive pursuers. Soon, very soon...

Diablo curled its lip into a cruel smile and dissolved into flame and smoke, the Lord of Hell done with today's engaging activities as Lochlann returned to its lifeless state. You were proving the demon all the more correct in its decision...

    Bloodscream.
