Oh-ho, so the masked warrior thought to deny his claim of just what he and his companion were! That defiant stand of his had all the fire that he knew Meta Knight had within him, and not only did it make this battle more interesting in this leg of it, it was going to make it all the more satisfying once he was able to conquer them. To make such a valiant statement and then to fall shortly after it… aah, it was a nightmare worthy of his own name! The demon did not make any quips in return, instead settling for his next attack on his chosen target.

And what an attack it was! Nightmare let out a dastardly chortle when he felt his tornado drill connect dead on with Meta Knight. it might not have been quite as powerful as he would have liked, but it had still dealt respectable damage, and more than anything, he was just glad that it had hit. That would show that knight a hard reminder of just who he was dealing with! The masked Dreamlander went spinning away, landing hard on the floor before his momentum carried him to an adjacent wall. Now that was just perfect! He had him set up for an even better follow up!

However, before Nightmare could even ready another strike, he heard a sharp crack… that was the only warning he had before a split second later, a blinding flash filled the area about the fountain. "GYAAAAAHH!" What in the name of all the stars was that?! It was incredibly bright, an affront to everything dark that he strove for! And more than that, it was stunning… so stunning that he couldn't move! He couldn't see anything! Just what had happened to cause such a flash?!

Although Impa could not presently articulate a deft counter to Nightmare's attempt at taunting them, no matter how short it might have been, Sir Meta Knight was incensed enough to follow up his monologuing with a bold declaration. It was a true as it was powerful, and with a positive growl, the Shekaih-turned-bear was more ready than ever to back those words up.

Unfortunately, before they could fell this demon, he managed to land a strong attack on Meta Knight. As the Dreamlander went spinning across the floor of the cavern, Impa took her chance to dash right in between him and Nightmare, just before she unleashed a Deku Nut. Both she and her companion had been able to avoid being affected by the blast themselves, herself due to her mastery of the item and Meta Knight due to her having been able to shield him, but just as she had hoped, Nightmare had been stunned outright. He was not going to stay that way for too long though, so they had to strike and strike fast.

Quickly returning Meta Knight's nod with one of her own, Impa whipped around in time to see her fellow warrior land a good slash of his sword right against the demon. He gave her a perfect opportunity to follow up, and with as wide open as her target was, she was set to hit him with all of her might.

Quickly disappeared and reappearing on the opposite side of Nightmare, Impa threw a fierce one-two punch combo, just before she thrust her paws forward, meeting their enemy with a powerful blast of magic. Hopefully, this would help them score their last critical hits against this threatening menace, and banish him from whence he came.

Sir Meta Knight's eyes narrowed as he heard Nightmare cry out--good. With their adversary blinded, this should make the fight much easier--and hopefully much shorter.

Impa was quick to take this opportunity to attack, and he watched in relief as she managed a strong blow to the demon. It wasn't enough to completely take him down, but he was close to going down--or so it seemed like. Just one more strike--if he could land just one more strike, perhaps it would be enough to fell this monster for good.

The knight took a moment to close his eyes and draw in a few more deep breaths--he had to focus. He had to land this hit. Just one more, and this would all be over.

The thought of bringing the demon down seemed to give him a brief second wind--he felt a fragment of his strength return, and with yell, he swung Galaxia with all his might.

Nightmare tried desperately to clear his vision and move, but he could do neither. Only after a moment did his vision start to fade back to normal, but it was still very spotting and covered in an annoying hue of orange. It did not help that he couldn't even lift his hands to shield his eyes as they recovered, so he barely saw anything other than a sudden blur of white along the corner of his vision. The massive spots still covered most of it, but the next thing he knew, he was in pain… a LOT of pain.

"KAAH!--" The demon cried out as he felt an incredibly powerful punch claw straight through his core, almost immediately followed up with another, slightly weaker, but still very strong blow. If he didn't know any better, this almost felt like the start of a similar attack sequence he had been met with when this battle first started! Sure enough, the two fierce punches were not the last of it, as a mighty blast of magic came next, the culmination of all three soon stripping him of most of his life energy. How? HOW in all the world had she managed to hit him with such force? How had either of them been able to tear him down so effectively and so quickly?! The two of them had each had far more success than they should have… that infernal knight was always one to keep at it, and he alone had made more than a stand than any one being should be capable of.

No matter though… even though his health had been torn down, Meta Knight had hit him with a glancing blow at best, and as Nightmare's vision began to clear, he tried to look to the pair before him. He could feel his strength returning, and if he could just hold out long enough, he would be able to hit these two with a wave of darkness the likes of which they'd never seen. They had been lucky, but they had still been fools to go against him, and he would make sure that they saw just that.

Impa let out a short, triumphant growl as she felt each one of her attacks hit with deadly precision. She might not have been as familiar with Nightmare as Sir Meta Knight was, but she could certainly tell that this demon was nearing the end of his life energy. That was a very welcome sense, and she was glad that she had been able to land another successful hit against their foe.  The Sheikah-turned-bear kept her position just to the side from where she had shot her blast of magic at Nightmare, and she watched as Meta Knight steeled himself before he moved in front of the demon, swinging Galaxia with every ounce of energy he had within him.

It was a mighty slash, and she could feel all of his determination in it… however, her red eyes soon widened as she saw the attack start to become nothing more than a glancing blow. No… it couldn't be… Meta Knight's attack had managed to miss the demon's core. He had put everything into that one attack, and as much as she wished it wasn't so, Impa could tell that his stamina was effectively shot. It was not right, but then again, things scarcely were around one's arrival in this world. However, this battle was not over, much the way that Meta Knight's attack had not finished.

Like any true warrior throwing an ending blow, the masked Dreamlander was still following through, and it was in seeing this that it took Impa only a split second to react. This demon, this veritable Nightmare, was a scourge from her companion's world, and it was only right that he be the one to end him, even if he needed a bit of unexpected assistance.

As Sir Meta Knight followed through with his sword strike, Impa suddenly reached forward and caught him in her broad paw, making sure she had a good hold on him from behind as she swiftly pivoted back and around. Her motion was one that belied her size, but it carried through all the same, and from where she now held Meta Knight at a higher angle, she was able to throw a strong stab right towards Nightmare's core, using her fellow warrior's sword Galaxia as an extension of herself. The two had become comrades in arms, and quite possibly even friends, and just as such, they were going to finish this right here, and right now.

    He'd missed.

Sir Meta Knight could feel the air rushing past him as Galaxia's blade missed Nightmare's core by inches--he'd thrown everything into his attack--how could he miss? Was he truly that exhausted? Was he truly so tired that he could not even hit a target that could not see to dodge?

But he had moved as though striking a finishing blow--as he had intended to do--and was still going through with the motion, the thoughts of horror and shame rushing through his head within the space of a few seconds, when something changed.

Something grabbed him, swinging him around the proper way, and immediately he knew what had happened:

    Impa.

Impa had grabbed him, insisting on it being his sword--or more, their combined effort to bring down this monster. He hardly had time to think as he forced himself to wield Galaxia with all his strength in order to finish this attack.

And that it did. Through the strength of two warriors brought together by chance, Galaxia tore through Nightmare's core, striking the finishing blow.

Nightmare's vision was finally starting to clear past the large spots he was seeing, but he still could not move just yet. Confound it this was annoying… hellishly so! His targets had to be right in front of him and he couldn't even move to retaliate against the attacks they dared to throw his way! No matter though, he was nearly free, nearly able to break from this, and since that blasted Meta Knight had not connected where his sword could deal critical damage, he had more than enough time to make both of these warriors pay.

    Yes, that was it, almost… al… most…

    *SHINK!*

    Wait… no… that was… THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE!

Meta Knight had been able to salvage his blow, and it had struck true, right through his very core. How… HOW had he been able to do that?! Yes, the masked puffball was a far more skilled warrior than the demon might like to admit, but not even he could swiftly turn around an attack like that!

It was only as the final spots faded from Nightmare's vision that he saw how Meta Knight had connected… that Sheikah, the one who had been so bold as to make a stand alongside the foolish Dreamlander, had managed to catch him. Somehow… they had caught him, right through his tornado-like core. But this was… no… no NO NO!!

Nightmare jolted, recoiling backwards before letting out a rumbling scream. He could not be defeated! Not like this! Not now, not ever! NO! But as much as he wished to deny it, he could not stop as his body faded into a thin, black mist with three diamond shaped stars, roughly where his eyes and mouth had been. No! THIS COULD NOT BE!!

    Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…

In a flash of light not unlike that of the Deku Nut, Nightmare had vanished. He had been bested once more, and hopefully for good. The two warriors had found a piece of Meta Knight's home, and not only had they defended it from a demon that sought to take it over, now, Portal Breach was safe from Nightmare's darkness as well.

Impa had hoped for both Meta Knight and herself to bring down Nightmare together, and although she felt it was right for his blade to be the one to fell this demon, as warriors, they both knew that the most important thing was that he was stopped before he could spread his darkness any further than this chamber. Just as she had anticipated, Sir Meta Knight reacted on pure instinct, set to plunge his sword deep into Nightmare's core. The combined strength of the puffball and transformed Sheikah proved to be more than enough, as not only did they strike true, they struck the final, critical blow.

With the finisher dealt, barely a second passed before Nightmare managed to finally regain his movement. That one moment felt like an eternity, but as the demon jolted back in pain, it was clear that this battle was over. Impa kept Meta Knight steady in her grip as the demon unleashed a veritable rumble of a scream, just before he began to fade before their eyes. Narrowing her red gaze ever so slightly, Impa watched with cold satisfaction as the demon began to dissipate, fading into nothing more than a black haze with three diamonds of light where his face had been. Another rumble and a bright flash of light later, and Nightmare was gone.

Blinking as the air about the battlefield settled, Impa let out a gruff sigh before she moved to carefully set Sir Meta Knight back down on the ground. Standing back up to her full height, she smiled as best her muzzle would allow, just before giving her companion a steady nod. Impa was more than set to produce the spare tablet to write out a short explanation as to just what had happened, the same as she was prepared to pull out a bottle of water so that she could heat it up and return to her true form, but right now… it was best to take care of one thing at a time.

Regardless of their previous journey through the grasslands and the battles leading up to this one, Meta Knight had been through a lot in one afternoon. This last encounter was especially trying, even before Nightmare had made himself known, and considering all of that, she was set to let her fellow warrior take what happened next at his own pace. She could change back in a moment… right now, since the day had been won, it was time for them to catch their well-deserved breath.

Sir Meta Knight shut his eyes against the sparkle of stars as Nightmare let out a final rumble and faded from existence, finally leaving this world for good. Galaxia had proven itself once again, but that was far from the only thing that had been proven within the past hour or so.

When the demon's presence had faded and Impa set Meta Knight down, the Dreamlander opened his eyes, catching her smile. Yet in spite of their victory, it was difficult to smile back. His gaze turned back toward the fountain that Nightmare had emerged from--the same Dream Fountain that he had appeared over in Dreamland so many years ago, in another world... a world that no longer existed. Yet the fountain flowed on, the Star Rod gleaming in the absence of the demon.

Meta Knight's wings gave a faint twitch, but otherwise remained limp on the ground behind him.

He shut his eyes again as the pain of loss fell heavily upon him, but he could not neglect to say something to his companion. "You are a true warrior, Impa," he said quietly. "It is an honor to fight by your side."

Despite their clear victory, Impa understood very well that after everything that had transpired, it was not easy for Sir Meta Knight to return her smile. He had come out the the Samba Heartlands today still convinced that he could find a way to return to his world, and although she had not outright told him that he was sadly mistaken, she accompanied him and let him continue his quest so that he could learn the truth for himself. Some people were able to take the truth well regardless as to the sources it came from… others, like her new friend here, had to see it for themselves. From the monsters they had encountered in the grasslands to Nightmare's very arrival, from the path through Rainbow Resort to the Fountain of Dreams itself, Meta Knight had found his answer.

It had not been a fool's errand by any means, even if there was no way the masked warrior could find what he had been looking for. He had found parts of Dreamland, even if there was not a way for him to return to that world, and he had confirmed for himself that even as his world could continue to exist across other points of time, his own instant had been destroyed, and he himself was here for good. As Meta Knight focused his attention on the Fountain of Dreams before them, Impa followed his gaze, hoping that now that he had been put in the place to accept this, he would be able to heal and grow from here. Somehow… although they had only known each other a short time, she was confident that he would.

Now that the dust had settled completely and her companion had once more had the chance to better take in the Fountain of Dreams and everything that it meant, Impa moved to pull a bottle of water from her Hyrulean Storage Space. She gave Sir Meta Knight a slow, steady nod at his words, and it was only after he spoke to her that she used simple fire spell to heat the water in the bottle. A moment later, she poured it over the top of her head, instantly changing back to her true, Sheikah form. Shaking her head slightly to clear the excess water from it, Impa looked to the masked Dreamlander once more, her soft smile now far more visible.

"As are you," stated Impa, her gratitude for his compliment as evident in her words as was her praise for him. "It was an honor to fight by your side as well; I am just glad that we were able to vanquish that demon after he decided to make himself known."

Sir Meta Knight listened to the sound of the fountain's flowing water for a while as his mind still tried to process everything that had gone on. The Fountain of Dream's existence here was indeed the final proof that Dreamland was gone... So now what was he supposed to do? He'd spent all of his time since his arrival trying to find a way home, but now that he was faced with the reality that his former home was gone...

Hearing Impa's voice, he turned to her and blinked in dull surprise to see her back in her normal form. "Yes... it is... it is good that he will not be terrorizing this world, as he once did Dreamland."

    Dreamland...

He swallowed, looking away. "I... I apologize for my stubbornness. To believe that my world had truly disappeared was..." It was growing difficult to speak. "...I was foolish to not believe you sooner."

Impa gave Sir Meta Knight a steady nod as he looked back to her, noting his own relief that they had been able to prevent Nightmare from repeating history in a new world. It might not have been much solace for the confirmed loss of his own world, but hopefully, in time that fact would help give the masked warrior another reason to keep his fight in this world. Home meant something different to everyone, that was something the Sheikah had long since learned… and although to this day she still thought of Hyrule as her true home, she was still determined to fight for this world that had become her second home. Hyrule would always be in her heart, and through her and her charges, it would always live on… that alone helped make this world a home. The same could be true for Dreamland through Meta Knight.

As her companion looked away again, Impa's expression softened imperceptibly at his apology and subsequent words. She knew that this was not easy at all for him, but even so, he managed not only to find what he wanted to say, but also to convey just that. It was one thing to confirm that ones' world was gone… it was another thing entirely to start to accept it. Acceptance could be difficult, but as it set in, so too could a path for new inner growth.

As the masked warrior touched on his previous foolishness, Impa let a couple of beats of silence pass before speaking again. "It is fine, Sir Meta Knight. It is an unbelievable thing to hear that any of our worlds are gone from those points in time, much less that we can never return to them. Learning and accepting those truths is rarely as easy as it might seem… but doing so is the first step in being able to move forward."

His apology was accepted in full, although his own stubbornness had been something he had learned to focus in his own way since his arrival. The way he had met Impa with his refusal to believe the fate of his world today had been a far cry from what he had shown to Sheik and Chell, but regardless of the Sheikah's attempts to cleverly handle his own notions that he had not been able to let go of until now, he had at the very least displayed them better even before they encountered the Grizzos.

"I am sorry that you had to learn the way you did… I truly am. Whilst it might not be exactly the same, I do understand much of what you're feeling. I miss Hyrule to this very day. It was the kingdom I was born and raised in, and one that I had grown to protect… one that I did help protect from destruction before I was whisked away here. I did not want to believe it was gone, but as much as it pained me to learn that it was gone from that point in time and that I was destined to remain here, I knew that it was true. I accepted it and continued to move forward, even well before I was reunited with Link and Sheik, and even before I properly met the older Link." In doing so, Impa had been able to carry on and contend with things… it was not unlike the way she had picked herself up once she had learned that she was the last of the Sheikah in her time, and she was determined to hold onto this mindset no matter what.

Pausing for a moment, Impa took a deep breath and let it out as a quiet sigh, soon adding, "As I said earlier today, I never give up hope for the future, even if it leads me to a world that is not my homeworld. The Breach is not Hyrule, nor is it Dreamland. However, both her and in the other points in time, through my charges and myself, I know that Hyrule will continue to live on. … If you will it, then Dreamland will always continue to live on through you."
