“A Roo-pee,” repeated Xiao. She looked at the gem offered. So it wasn’t a crystal, diamond, emerald, glass or whatever shiny gems there were out there. It was a roo-pee. Roo-pi? Ruby? Oh, maybe Rupee? Wait, she read that word somewhere before in some fancy book she had flicked through in the palace library. Vastly preferring fictional literature and gossipy magazines, this squirrel minion did not spend much time looking through her lord’s collection of books; however, there were the odd ones which had pretty and fancy looking covers to which she were attracted to like a moth to a flame and had given the curious flick through before the text contained boggled her into boredom.

At Lord Vaati’s mention of having seen him hold them in passing, Xiao turned her head to one side and rummaged furiously through her memories. Had she seen them in passing outside of that one guilty treasure chest opening? Hmm, Xiao Xiao was not very sure… wait, she had seen him holding something silver and shiny once, almost the same size as the gem in front of her too.

“Oh yes, yes, yes. It is a VERY fitting token,” she immediately gasped before reached out and took the shiny present eagerly. “In fact, it’s much more than this minion deserved! I will cherish it for the rest of my life!”

It’ll get a little stand and cushion made to place at the most prominent location on her bed-stand and polished everyday to a gleaming sparkle. In fact, she will make it so shiny that you would be able to clearly see your reflection. GASP! Maybe she should see if she could get her hands on a lovely little velvet box she had seen displaying jewellery. Wouldn’t that be so elegantly lovely?

“Heeeee~” she squealed excitedly, almost bouncing out of her chair in delight.

Xiao looked at the wind mage with eyes big and wide, full of suggestion that she wanted to hug the very life out of him, but she sucked in a deep breath and refrained. No, no, Xiao Xiao shall be a good little squirrel. She had already hugged him twice already and a third time would really be testing his patience. Instead, she took another deep breath, clasped the pretty present close to her chest like it was the dearest thing she ever received and bowed her head respectfully low.

“Thank you, Lord Vaati. Xiao Xiao is deeply honoured and loves you very, very much.”

Breakfast and present. This minion could not ask for a better way to spend her birthday.

"Hm," Vaati nodded as Xiao repeated him about just what the Rupee was, albeit with a slightly exaggerated pronunciation. At least she understood what it was and was not completely distracted by its shiny nature. The glean of the Hyrulean currency was something that the Wind Mage had come to appreciate far more once he had been pulled to this world, and admittedly, it was rather amusing to see someone's reaction to catching a Rupee up close for the very first time.

Once Xiao declared that it was a very fitting token, Vaati smirked the slightest bit and nodded as she took the offered Rupee. Her eager declarations about just how much it meant to her and how she would cherish the gem were as amusing as they were expected, and it made the Wind Mage further glad that he'd given her something like it. It might have been simple to him, but regardless of her unfailing loyalty, this was undoubtedly a wise exchange. "I'm pleased that you think so. I know you will take good care of it."

Granted, Vaati had no idea just what sort of ridiculous lengths of such that his minion was currently conjuring up in her mind, but he knew very well that she would do just as she said. It was as much a symbol as it was a gift it seemed, and as Xiao looked up to him with particularly wide eyes, the Wind Mage raised an eyebrow as though to ask just what she had on her mind. If she was going to catch him in another embrace…

Thankfully, the former Minish was spared from an especially tight hug, and Xiao took to hugging onto the green Rupee instead. His expression relaxed a fraction at that, and as she turned to thank him, Vaati simply nodded. She might have loved him, but the honor was most interesting… just as interesting as her loyalty was curious. She might have come to the palace under different circumstances, but she had certainly proven her worth regardless of her antics. "Of course, Xiao Xiao. You are a fine minion and I am glad that you like this token so. Do be sure to enjoy your birthday… within reason, of course."
