    Green Eggs

    No ham.

Ridley perched atop a building. He knew others had seen him, and he wasn't exactly the most popular figure around here. It was just that he didn't give a shit what they thought. He'd come here to learn about what Hazama had stirred, and while he'd found Kev and Kev had explained to him, he knew that the best way to get a surefire idea was to ask around, as in more than one person. Kev hadn't lied, but he had no way of knowing that. He just needed to scour the area for any of the others that had been there.

Of course, whether he had luck or not was... really not up to him. But the longer he didn't, the longer he'd be here. Heading to the Icelands would probably not yield any answers, anyway. Things broke, but there likely wouldn't be corpses or anything. For now, he needed to wait. He stayed quiet, watching the city bustle and watching out for anyone he could recognise. This place was packed during the heat of midday, so it was notably hard to look for specific individuals. He just had to wait and make certain he found them.

Documenting world events to learn from was difficult. If it brought them nearer to their goal, however, he would be all for it. Maybe searching for that Hazama would prove more useful than this, but as Hazama had used magic to exit the base like that (what with Phantom and all), he had no way of knowing where Hazama could have even gone to. Portal Breach was a big place; he could be in the damn Jungle for all Ridley knew. Thus, searching for him would likely be fruitless. Instead, a ton of Shadow Pirate Squads had come down to stay on Portal Breach for a while, searching all over for him. A force searching for Hazama that the green-haired individual didn't even know were searching for him.

Surprise was a good upper hand to have.

Arro slapped the hulk of leather down onto rooftop cement. Straps and bags of tanned skin piled up as he detached them to get at the fastening that had frayed. He grabbed the long loose tail of hide between his teeth and pulled it tight, bringing it's excess through and then bit the damaged knot free. With his wings, he pulled the harness back over his back, and took it with his main set of arms from there. Retying a new knot and checking to make sure that the rig was once again secure and tight against his chest.

Satisfied with the repairs, the young dragon stepped out of the shadows to peer out across the city-scape. He had come from a night of hunting on the peninsula, and was passing through on his way back into the mountains to unload some finds. He preferred it when a route took him through the city, the skyscrapers created powerful updrafts that though dangerous allowed him to sail without effort, as long he minded his wingtips.

He got a bit of a thrill out of it too if he was being honest with himself.

Arro leaped into the open air and began falling down to the street below. Slippery molecules trailed beneath his folded wings, trying to tug the structures of leather from his flanks. Wind blasted his face, sweeping around his aerodynamic features, along his neck and down his back. A secondary lid set swept over his eyes, protecting them from debris and windburn. The ground rushed towards him. Halfway down the height of the skyscraper his wings opened and ballooned outwards. Filled with a sudden rush of air, he shot upwards immediately with throttling force. He stabilized, then flapped vigorously, rocketing faster with each beat.

His eyes traced the sky, the ground, the buildings to either side of him and every pigeon within twenty miles that flew unobscured. But the bulk of his attention was focused on weaving between the human architecture. He could fly in height and security, but the updrafts wouldn't benefit him there. Regardless of his overarching entanglement, the metallic silhouette atop a distant high-rise he'd yet to pass didn't escape his notice. It was hard to prevent his eyes from latching onto even the vaguest of draconic silhouettes. Just as humans saw faces in every cloud and bush, Arro was attuned to recognizing his own kind. Not for a second though did he entertain thoughts of that being a drai, it was foreign, a stranger, moved too disjointedly. Mechanical? No, armoured.

He flew onwards. Passing the occupied building in the blink of an eye. Swiftly distancing himself from the hulking stranger and threatening to disappear into the haze of the day. Arrogath had no time for socializing.

One could argue that Ridley himself was far too mechanical to be considered a dragon. They'd be right, but his original form didn't look too dragonlike, in all stereotypical Western depictions; his tiny wings that should, by rights, prevent him from flying were a huge hindrance to his image. But then again, his relation with the age-old (in his universe) depiction of a dragon was questionable since he was an alien in the first place. All the same, the fact that those from this universe were much more commonly taken from the age where mythology including dragons was ripe and present across forms of media, and dragon lore being general knowledge, didn't help his actual existence as an alien and not as a dragon much. It was probably a good job that he wasn't particularly bothered, in that regard. Hell, he only knew about dragons and had only started using the term due to this world.

But, whereas Ridley's field of vision was nowhere near as good as Arro's, even with the technological upgrades, he did notice Arro when Arro came into view. His vision was at least somewhat better than the normal human's. He could see perfectly well in the dark, anyway, which said something, at the very least. "The dragon." Perfect. The dragon had fought valiantly, and would prove to be a useful informant if he complied. Then again, bloody Kev had complied, and Kev had been the last thing native to Portal Breach as a user that Ridley had murdered.

Did Arro stop? No. Arro continued on. Naturally, anyway. It wasn't like Ridley was broadcasting his message that he wanted to find folk from the recent battle. But, Ridley wasn't about to just let Arro continue on without at least giving chase. Beating his energy wings, Ridley flew into the air, before speedily taking off after Arro. He didn't even need to build up speed; aside from the ascent, he just started sailing behind Arro. He had no doubt that he'd be noticed. It just seemed like either a thing that would be good, or a thing that wouldn't go well. Either way, this could be the only lead he'd come into contact with all day.

He wasn't going to waste it.

He had a follower. He wasn't exactly surprised. Arro beat on, banking upwards against the edge of a high-rise to get a better fix on his flagger out of his peripherals. Then swerved back into place.

The creature was neither closing on him or falling behind. The latter surprised him somewhat. With wings so proportionally small and limbs so lanky he wouldn't have pegged the stranger as being able to match even this speed. But he felt a strange sensation pulsing from the lehrall whenever it brought those appendages sweeping down. Almost electrical. Whether it was something to do with the flagger's armour or biology Arro couldn't tell. But it seemed to be compensating for it's otherwise non-aerodynamic form. Meaning if it wanted to close on him it probably could. The fact that it already hadn't suggested a lack of hostility. So what did it want?

He could attempt to lose it amid the maze of buildings. But now he was curious. Once that feeling invaded his mind there was little else to do.

Arrogath beat upwards, heading for the nearest rooftop and reached out with talons to pull his body to the surface. Then turned out towards the open air, perched like a gargoyle, waiting to be joined.

As Arro landed on the building, Ridley kept flying and went over him, flapping his wings, coming around and landing on the roof himself, beside Arro. Whoever the family/families was/were in THIS building had better be thankful that it was capable of supporting their combined weight. Of course, there was little doubt that it would be incapable of doing so, but at the same time if it hadn't been, it'd have been quite the adventure to watch the building tumble and fall down. You know, sadistic humour. Not funny? Well, good job it didn't happen, then.

"So," Ridley begun, turning to look directly at the orange dragon. "You were one of the few that were called together to defeat Hazama." He'd heard of the news broadcast, though he hadn't actually seen it. He didn't tend to watch TV a lot, especially not on Zebes. He was usually on business. This time, though, he was doing this out of his own curiosity. "I watched you fight Hakumen, Hazama, and Nu." How? He wasn't so quick to reveal that much. "What happened after Ragna the Bloodedge was kicked into the Cauldron by Hakumen?"

It was all rather sudden, now that it was given thought. He'd flown up, landed, and immediately gotten straight to the point and left nothing else there. Oh well, he supposed. If this didn't work, he'd simply find another that had gone to fight Hazama. If worst came to worst? He'd fly to the Hive and force his way in, and he'd force Aradia to answer his questions. She was apparently the instigator of the entire trip. Still, didn't mean she knew any more than anyone else. Judging by her time off-camera, though... it was a possibility.

    He'd look into it.

(I'm sorry for being so late! I got ridiculously lazy over Christmas, and only got to writing posts now. I apologise, either way!)

[No problem, I've been busy too]

    ________________________________________________________________________________

The larger creature alighted beside him, and Arro slowly inclined his body towards his visitor.

Head cocked aside, brow set in it's eternal hooded frown. He eyed him like a hawk sizing up a rabbit. Pupils tracing every dent, every angle, probing every surface. Arro didn't know what he was other than strong. Stronger than himself. And by the way he moved, old. Not weak with age, but knowledgeable with it, he could see it the creature's wizened step. Like a pren'drai. Not with the same grace but with the same tact...

The stranger began to speak, and Arro sat silently and listened; loosening his nostrils as he took in the tailgaters scent and voice. Neither were recognizable.

His red scales fluttered up around his coiled neck in response to a few choice words.

    Watched you.

His eyes narrowed in their sockets in a single intense isolated motion. A controlled and instant communicator of his sudden skepticism.

The lack of an introduction was sharply poignant to Arro. He came from a culture where those who gave no name rarely held peaceful intentions. A name was powerful and you didn't give it to someone willingly with whom you sought to make an enemy.

Arro cracked his maw open, and his rough hewned voice began to seep out like a haze.

"Why tell you what you already know?" he skurred suspiciously, pupils constricting as if to examine him more closely. If he saw Hakumen kicking Ragna into the cauldron he must have seen what came after.

Arro's head extended forward and his strange tone began to darken. "There was no sign of you in the compound, how were you observing us?" he asked.

Ridley, himself, did not even know of the culture his species grew up in. He didn't care. He was raised by Space Pirates, and was nothing more than a heartless killer. He withheld his name because he wasn't really one to fly by and give his name, though... but if you'd heard of the Phazon Crisis, you'd likely know who he was soon enough. "I wouldn't come to Portal Breach to ask for information I already know. I'm unaware of what happened afterwards." Ridley's mechanical, fiery eyes met Arro's own eyes, his own stature and voice not changing, despite Arro's darkening.

"I wasn't in the compound. I was watching from the cameras that were installed. This "Hazama" built his base out of our abandoned materials, and either thought we wouldn't notice, or just was unaware of our existence." He didn't elaborate on who "we" were as he said this, answering Arro's question with a truth. "Whatever reaction occurred caused the cameras to shatter and the life cycle of the system itself was terminated. Thus, I'm forced to find out for myself."

Care to share, or was suspicion working against Ridley?

Arro's gaze turned skeptical. His maw slipping open ever so slightly to let shed a trickle of light in-between razor teeth.

He had seen no cameras within the compound. His eyes were keen to pick out such trivialities. It was possible he'd missed them in the upper levels... but not in the barren bottom floor. Unless they had been microscopic.

To place such innocuous devices without being caught, either by his own hand or by the hands of his bondsmen -he had noticed the "we"- suggested resources of considerable measure. Ridley had not specifically mentioned the cameras were his though... He could have gained access to pre-existing installations through illicit means... or could have been granted access by Hazama.

His maw sealed shut and he watched the large creature before him for a considerable amount of time.

Why did he care so much he wondered...

Arro, several months ago wrote:The Bloodedge's body began to distort, and Arrogath found he couldn't restrain his scales from bristling in response. Something bad was about to happen.

As if on cue, he picked up the tell tale vibrations of a descending elevator. Another foe so soon? Perhaps not, he could smell something familiar reeking through the sealed elevator doors. And as they were wrenched open, he was unsurprised to see Hakumen. He'd suspected he'd show up again. What he proceeded to do with Ragna however defied all logic.

The bone coloured knight, strode in, a panicking stranger on his heels. He plucked Ragna up by the roots of his hair. Called the man a monster, and threw him into the very place Hakumen had previously warned Ragna of entering. The stranger raced to the threshold, crying aloud for the vanished man, but Hakumen barred his way.

"Ragna died" he answered in two sparse partially true words. Summarizing a single long and frustrating night with all that ultimately resulted from it. No great victories, just killing a stranger at the manipulation of other strangers.

He was overcome by his own power, he transformed into a monster, and we killed him.

Arro turned away toward the cityscape and slipped off the roof. For a few seconds he vanished while plummeting. Then slowly rose back into view as he ate up the distance, gliding away on the updrafts.

Arro, several months ago wrote:The others began to drift apart, there was nothing left to fight and no sign of Terumi. But Aradia called a few back to voice her concerns. Unfortunately Arro agreed with them.

Which only meant that none of this was really over.

He nodded grimly, "It was his plan from the beginning. Either Ragna died or the beast marauded freely. A win for Terumi either way."

They had no idea what they'd been getting into. He wasn't sure if any of this could have been prevented, but it sure as Thiam felt like it.

"The only positive, if it could be called that. Is this likely means Terumi never had the ability to create more beasts in the first place."
The dragon drifted away to stare into the remnants of the cauldron. "Though the longer he's free the more likely it is that may change."

Arro wanted to search for him, but if Terumi was capable of disappearing and reappearing so completely -as Hakumen had demonstrated- then his chances of doing so, unless the man slipped up, were nearly zero.

Arro remained with his back to the group, still staring into where only moments ago there had once been a boiling void.

    This felt like failure....

He hadn't known Ragna well, nor had he cared much for him, but he'd been an ally and a fellow prailox. They'd come in here together and were now leaving apart...

If you aren't dead Ragna, you've done an amazing job of hiding it.

Ridley listened to Arro. Literally, two words were spoken; Ragna died. That was all Ridley felt he could gleam from this, too. Following Arrogath at this point would potentially prove more hassle than it was worth, so instead of following, Ridley remained where he was while Arro flew away. He knew that someone like Kev was bound to enter the Sanctuary later, so he could and would just ask for more details then. But, this was still pretty interesting. Ragna had died... the circumstances of his death interested Ridley due to what had caused the lights to go out. A mere death wouldn't have caused that...

Ridley could search for Hazama, but he felt that'd be fruitless. He was gonna ask probably Kev, instead. Kev hated his guts, but would probably part with the information anyway. After all, Kev was a lovely little bean! Always handy, that one. Even when he died in the Phazon Crisis. That was super handy! Or, it would have been if Ridley had been sane. Anyway, the Pirate Lord remained on the rooftop for a while. Watching people go by and ignoring looks he got from citizens, alien or not, that walked below, he stood.

    He'd move later.
