    Time's Up

Post by Fear on Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:18 pm

    Time: Morning
    Date: December 9th, 0004

It had been over two weeks. Two entire weeks and now a certain Dark Judge was starting to grow peeved.

On an old wooden rocking chair sat Judge Fear, the undead man of the law idly swaying himself back and forth with the balls of his leathery feet. He had been sitting out on the porch for some time now, where a mass collection of old newspapers had began to form a nice pile at his side. None of them had anything that interested him and therein lied the problem. Two weeks, he thought, and nothing to show for it. That was entirely unacceptable and something needed to be done. Right now, in fact. There was no warning as the ghoul suddenly rose up with a loud, bone-popping creak. He strode down the porch's oak steps with a sharp crack of his cape and immediately proceeded for the barn up ahead, where he pulled back the heavy doors using otherworldly strength.

"K.A.R.R.," Judge Fear hissed into the enveloping darkness. Glowing blue-white embers searched for a familiar shade of black and silver tones. "K.A.R.R., it is time to reap what we have sown. Are you prepared for a glorious hunt?" Or did you prefer to rot within this barn and collect nothing but rust?

For the two long weeks that had passed since a certain intruder's presence, it had been predictably silent. Not a word passed over the radio of any goings on in the city, at least none that could be directly linked back to their short bout of mental meddling. Within the darkness of the barn, KARR was content to stay silent and run past data through his processors. The citizens, this world, the AI analyzed and observed all that he had recorded and came to a conclusion...

He would need to find some sort of external databank to make sense of it all. Given the rural isolation of their farm, the AI was unable to gain a proper signal, or even pirate one for that matter. So many questions and very little answers.

As Judge fear had opened the doors to look for the Trans-Am, he would find it hard to make out his form from the morning shadows, nary a sunbeam coming through the cracks in the wooden planks. However, he recognized the ghoul's voice immediately and a familiar amber light flickered to life with a droning whoosh, his interior coming to life and illuminating the front seats soon after. "Grown tired of waiting for your boy to come through on his promise?" KARR remarked, his question rhetorical as he idled forward. "I was beginning to wonder when you would see that killing him was the proper action."

Though admittedly he would have rather done so back in November, the moment he stepped foot onto the farm. Alas, not everything could be done in the way of efficiency. Driving up to the Dark Judge, KARR clicked open the door eagerly. "Do you have anything that could be useful to track him with?" He asked evenly, the lines of his modulator flickering inward like fangs.

Ah, there the wise-cracking vehicle was... Judge Fear was silent as K.A.R.R. addressed him with a smug tone, as predicted. "I had been hoping for some old-fashioned fun, but it would seem that you are indeed correct," the Dark Judge was reluctant to admit. Not to worry, however. The ghoul was going to correct his shortsightedness today. He pushed back the other barn door and gestured for K.A.R.R. to pull out, the Dark Judge wanting to get on with their business before the opportunity was lost. "I can find the boy with ease," he reassured. Judge Fear brought up a yellowed nail and lightly tapped it against his helm's metal temple, just below a winged ornament. "When I had melded with his mind those several weeks ago, I left behind my unique... signature, you could say. He will not be difficult to locate." Nor will Jak Mar be difficult to skin.

Resting a hand upon his utility belt, the Dark Judge made sure his uniform was in order before making his way toward K.A.R.R's driver's side. "To the city," he hissed. "Take me to the city and we shall begin our glorious hunt. Today, K.A.R.R., we will make an example out of Jak Mar and his increasing stupidity." Let it be said that it was grossly unwise to scorn a Dark Judge.

There was what the AI wished to hear. Just as he thought, no plan could go past the wisdom of a supercomputer. KARR remained silent however, content to revel in his abilities and sure that the Dark Judge had seen his thoughts as well. All that needed to be done was to track the boy down and put him to executioner's block. It would be a small challenge, he supposed, given that he knew little of the pointy eared creature that had intruded upon the farm. At least until his driver brought up rather interesting point about his own abilities. His optics followed the Dark Judge's claw as they tapped against his helm, soon revealing that he could indeed be tracked via a signature.

"Interesting skills." KARR commented, pleasantly surprised and now a little curious about what else the ghoul could accomplish with his mind alone. The driver's side door sat open, awaiting Judge Fear to take his seat behind the gullwing wheel.  It did not take long for the undead Judge to find their target, narrowing it down to...

The city. One of the more massive, intricate places on this entire rock. Not to mention one of the more heavily guarded.  The AI paused for a moment, if their target was in the city, which part were they to look for him in? "He will not be easy to extract, we will have to be wary of the ISO patrols if we wish to keep ahead and find him." KARR noted methodically. It would be hard to hunt for him behind the bars of a cell, and who knew how their laws would treat an AI like himself.

Judge Fear was a smart fellow in his own right; however, he had been more accustomed to operating in a unit, as opposed to just being by himself, and he had typically preferred to remain silent in times of debate. He was also, much to his chagrin, still human in terms of origin - even if in the remotest sense. "You haven't seen a thing," the Dark Judge practically purred, allowing himself a brief second to brag. All in due time, all in due time... He didn't waste any more precious seconds and hopped into K.A.R.R.'s awaiting driver's seat, the ghoul promptly buckling up.

    The ISOs, that's right...

"We needn't concern ourselves with the likes of them," Judge Fear commented. While it was true that the ISOs will present a problem if the situation was not handled professionally, the Dark Judge had every reason to be confident in his ability to weed out the long-eared disappointment. There was also one other fact, an interesting one, that the cold-blooded automobile needed to be made aware of. "For the past two weeks I have been reading the newspaper," did the ghoul hiss. He reclined back and was content to let K.A.R.R. assume control for the time being. "During the many hours that I had spent dissecting any and all information brought before me, I was able to draw conclusions about Portal City. For starters, crime still happens within its borders despite the ISO's involvement and in particularly one area." What a marvelous gift, the gift of literacy. Judge Fear redirected his unwavering gaze down at K.A.R.R.'s central console and inputted a few coordinates into the vehicle's databanks. "Go there and we will not be disturbed in the culling of Jak Mar." Let the hunt... BEGIN!

Haven't seen a thing, eh? KARR listened as the Dark Judge had his brief moment of pride, closing the door behind him as he got situated in the cockpit. Perhaps later on the AI would be made privy to the ghouls' more intriguing abilities, already KARR himself was beginning to regain some of his former strengths. It would be rather satisfying for the duo to test them out when given the chance. Maybe later on they would be able to have enough power to bypass the ISOs themselves if things managed to go right, speaking of which...

The AI listened attentively as Judge Fear mentioned that the ISO's would not have to be dealt with. How? They were everywhere within that city, able to pop in and out of any situation that deemed fit for their intervention. Evasion was a gambit at best, and apprehension was a solid outcome for any ill-planned attempts even breaking a single law. Although, what was brought up certainly seemed rather convenient, perhaps even exploitable. "I see." KARR replied evenly, looking over the given coordinates before plotting a route. "Your coordinates will bring us to the outer edges of Portal City, known as the Ghetto Gateway from what I could make out from that map we acquired earlier." He announced, pulling out from behind the farm house and onto the lonely country road. Perhaps while they were dealing with Jak Mar they could invest in getting a new map for him to scan. One with less grease stains and more coherent labels.

It would certainly make plotting out their intercepting course much faster.

"Calculated arrival time is twenty minutes." KARR said evenly, turbines screaming as he shifted the Trans-Am into pursuit mode. Within seconds the car was nothing more than a blur of silver and black shooting over the asphalt, intent on stopping for no man nor beast.
