    Hellhole Home

Post by Nessa on Tue Nov 26, 2013 6:13 pm

    November 20th, 6:00PM

Wandering has always been one of Nessa's strong suites. It's kept her alive for centuries, what got her nearly killed was settling down... Which makes her wonder why her endeavor is so important. Ah. New world, less Nergal. Fresh starts. That sort of thing.

Nessa walks down the shambled sidewalk, seemingly ignoring the fauna called human. Each little glance, however, means a great deal. Who are the drug dealers, who are the unsavory, who are the gangs, who is a threat, who is a feast.

The normal scouting for a home.

She wraps her p-coat around her tightly and makes sure her scarf is secured before she actually starts to look for a building. Suzanne appears on her shoulder, the albino rat blinking and looking about the place with an intelligence far beyond normal vermin.

"Take it all in, Sweetie, this will be our new home." She says with the least disdain she can muster. The little white rat sniffs a few times before covering her nose and washing her face. She resumes, but this time looking at each passing person or thing like it's something to eat.

Nessa shakes her head and turns back to the sidewalk...

Maybe just maybe she'll find a home tonight.

Livewire didn’t particularly want to be outside right now.  She was just out walking, though why she had wandered into this particular section of the city she didn’t know, not even doing anything stressful, but she still would have preferred to still be at home right then.   It had been a long time, since things changed so drastically, but this second introduction still wasn’t pleasant to the child.  Livewire walked along the sidewalk, against the general flow of people, but she didn’t care.   Her small, 4’5” frame would have drawn more attention what with the bright yellow paint, but this was taken care of from Livewire being swathed in a large, baggy sweater in the fashion she had taken up lately for reasons she hadn’t been asked to explain.   She had even modified her armor to be able to wear the sweater, as her shoulder plates would have ripped through the material without issue had she not removed them.

Her blue optics scanned around the faces of those near her, but Nessa’s intuition about the nature of crowds far outweighed Livewire’s own.   To the femme, they were just people, some clean, some dirty, some she couldn’t really tell, all shuffling around into their own places.   None of them posed much interest to the femme, until her audios picked up on the familiar lit of a voice she hadn’t heard in quite a while, a voice she  had been suspecting was gone from the Breach like so many others.   Livewire looked up, now much more interested in the surrounding faces, until she spotted a familiar mop of hair, and a glance down revealed the same albino rat she had begun to get attached to herself, what with the little interaction they’d had.

Livewire raised her slouching posture up and clicked her way over to the woman she had grown fond of since her most interesting introduction to the Sanctuary.   “Nessa!”   She waved, and then slipped through the crowd until she reached the woman’s side.   She smiled, which, once again, felt like a strange form on her face, before she buried that thought and focused on the taller subject at hand.   “Hi!”

The common droll of the place had started Nessa's planning. She had stopped at a small worn down building that didn't look much like an apartment, nor did it look industrial. This place was such a dump. Perfect. She hides her smile in her scarf, shoving her hands into her pockets and continuing on down the sidewalk.

She doesn't get far, though, she blinks and turns to hear a familiar voice behind her. She paints on a smile and walks toward Livewire. She stands directly in front of her and blinks at her, enjoying her fashion choice, for being a robot of course. It made her chuckle for a moment, which she allowed Livewire to hear. She walks forward and cocks her head to the side, her dreadlocks in the bandana fall to the side and she reveals her red-hued eye.

"Oh hello, child. You know you are just in time. I was thinking about finally taking you up on that little offer you were keen on." She says with her Germanic accent flitting on the edges of her voice.

She turns to regard the entirety of the area, standing now right next to Livewire. She scans the area and looks to the Cybertronian.

"This isn't my normal for a place to live, but I do enjoy my privacy. You've been here longer, I'm sure you could assist me quite nicely in finding a ... fixer-upper?"

She turns her gaze back to Livewire and blinks once with her best convincing smile. She keeps her hands in her pockets, Suzanne crawls off her shoulder and bridges over to Livewire's sweater. The white rat finding a nice perch and blinking rapidly at all the new smells.

Livewire kept the smile on her face, doing her very best to ignore how out-of-place it really felt.  Nessa’s laugh helped with that.  The part of her that enjoyed the joy, or at least the general pleasantness, of others was still closer to the surface and she used that part to hang onto for the moment.

After Nessa stated the reason for her currently inhabitation of the area, Livewire nodded slightly to indicate that she did still remember that topic, and her offer of assistance.  Her own voice was quiet in response, just loud enough for Nessa to hear without the passerby picking up too well.   “I had wondered if you hadn’t found your own place by now.”   She didn’t particularly care if others heard or not, but when one doesn’t want to speak it is much easier to be quiet than it is to be loud.

Livewire did not join in on Nessa’s glance over the area.  She had been here before; she remembered what it was like, the types of buildings.  Her smile became a tad more genuine when Suzanne slipped onto her shoulder, as she held a fondness for the rat as well as the Piper.   “There will be plenty of those around, probably.  Enough to find one you like.”  Nessa didn’t need to try a convincing smile with Livewire.   Even if she didn’t like the woman, Livewire had offered her assistance and she would not go back on that, not without good reason.

Nessa straightens her back a bit more, stretching and taking in the smells of the ghetto. Yes, this place will do nicely. Now finding a specific spot may prove... more difficult. But she wasn't exactly one to give up on an endeavor that has to be done! Shelter is indeed a good thing to have in a new area. She's not just going to sit around the sewers or the streets for all of her time here on the Breach.

She blinks to Suzanne, who now resides on Livewire's shoulder. She can't contain a chuckle, so she covers her mouth to quell the sound.

"It seems Suzanne has already found a place to rest her head."

She continues to scan the area after that statement and can't seem to focus, her overloading senses starting to get to her again. Ugh... this weak thing has her incredibly useless. Something she cannot tolerate... Now what was that was supposed to make her stronger? Fighting? Money? Both of which would be a product of a good and hidden assassin's contract station... She metaphorically waves off the idea in her head. For now, home. Home is where she needs to find. A house.

"I'm having a hard time finding a place in the hodge-podge of slums. Where do I even start..." She truthfully could do this on her own, but she isn't unwise. The public is still useful for information, and Livewire was more than ready to help her. It all works out perfectly.

Nessa leans on her hip, putting her hand on it and looking up to Livewire for guidance.

Livewire could feel herself relax as the weight of Suzzane on her shoulder acted as a continuous reminder for he femme to keep her shoulder still, lest she jostle the rat.  Now the femme took the cue to glance around at the buildings, doing a quick scan of each for a few tells on if the place would be suitable.  She looked at the condition of the exterior, if the outside coating was well kept, what condition the windows were in, how clean the surrounding area was, stuff like that.  She kept in mind what Nessa had described as an ideal home, and with a quick decision made she inclined her head towards a structure nearby, what looked to be a series of livng spaces stacked on top of some sort of commercial endeavor that had probably seen better days, if the clouded storefront glass was any indication.  There were other options of course, andthe one Nessa had been drifting towards probably would better fit her desires, but Livewire did not fully understand how dilapidated of a building Nessa was going for.

    "Want to start there?"

Nessa blinks to where Livewire indicated, cocking her head to the side and crossing her arms in thought. Her oversensitive eyes taking in the structure and absorbing painstaking detail in a matter of a moment. She walks toward it without even the slightest of hesitation.

"Well now, I didn't think of this place... You seem to have an eye for exactly what I want, child." She stands in front of the building, young men and women in tattered to dark clothing walk past her, eyeing her once before a quick glance of red eyes told them to quickly give her wide berth.

She looks back to the femme with a nod toward the same building.

    "Let's have a look-see shall we?"

Nessa steps forward, hand idly touching the window of the shop glass before opening it up. Unlocked. Well that's wonderful. What could she do with a shop? Other than set up living quarters... it might be a wonderful idea to have both home... and 'workplace'. She almost chuckles to herself, but only a smile plays across her face.

Home is where your heart is, and her heart is DEFINITELY in her work.

Livewire's cyan optics followed Nessa as she turned her attention to the structure that the femme had indicated.   Her feet carried her a step closer to the woman ans away from the edge of the space that had formed around them.   Livewire didn't particularly mind being near a crowd, but she didn't like the thought of someone bumping into her and disrupting the friend that had taken to perch on her shoulder.

The cybertronian kept pace with Nessa as she made her way closer to the building, the quiet clicking of her feet against the pavement giving her position away.   A small, proud smile graced the child's face with Nessa's praise.

The glass of the storefront was clouded with dust and dirt, and streaks ran through it to show just how the water was funneled over the surface when it rained.   The door creaked on unoiled hinges as the woman pushed it open.  Inside it was darker, with only the streetlamps giving illumination to the space.   It was cleared out of merchandise, empty shelves looming in the darkness and displaying nothing.  The check out counter stood stationary across the space, but no register was to be seen.   There were intact lights in the ceiling, but a light switch didn't seem to be present.   The air was relatively clear, but each if their steps stirred up some if the dust on the floor.

Livewire peeked inside behind Nessa, quickly glancing around before offering a comment.

"I think the stairs are in the back."

As they enter, underneath Livewire's feet, hundreds upon hundreds of rats appear, crawling over her metal feet and into the building. They tumble over each other, eager to sniff out anything edible or interesting. Suzanne pats the femme's head once and crawls down deftly, using a spiky piece of Livewire to leap into the fray before crawling up atop Mother's head to scout the area. Such a good little leader. She squeaks commands to the rest of the family.

Nessa sniffs the musty air, the smells of the rats start to invade her senses, but she blocks it out easily. After all, she's spent quite the amount of time with her children. She looks toward the stairs at Livewire's comment. Cocking her head slowly at the ascending steps. Her eyes narrow, she breathes in to taste the air. Her ears perk up, hearing a heartbeat... There is someone here.

A small smile spreads across her face.

"Oh dear, it seems we already have an inhabitant. Let's pay a visit to the next floor, shall we?~" Her smile stays for Livewire, but as she turns to step forward, her eyes glow red, wisps of red aura flaking off of her and the smell of blood wafts into the air.

As if on cue, the entirety of the rats perk up, and then flatten to the ground, each of their eyes reflecting their mother's aura.

Nessa takes a step upward, pausing to check if the steps were stable. For good measure she breathes out and lets her aura take hold of her feet, a small amount of air pocketing her soles. Complete silence.

She quickly ascends, expecting Livewire to follow and make the noise. A good distraction is best, and she's sure Livewire's much stronger than she...

She stands still and awaits her lovely cybertronian friend... There's a hallway full of doors... the one to the right... smells of flesh.

Livewire stopped, one foot mid-step, as the flood of rats rushed from seemingly nowhere.  Oh she didn’t mind the rats surrounding her at all. In fact she was particularly fond of Nessa’s family, each and every one of them.  The cybertronian was merely cautious about stepping on any paws or tails.  Even  she was small like this she still weighed a good deal more than an organic being of her size would, and so a misplaced foot of her own could pinch off a little limb.

Once the tide of tiny, furry bodies passed, Livewire placed her foot back down and resumed following Nessa inside.  A little smile curved her mouth as she watched Suzzane direct her siblings.  The child was glad that she had decided to venture into the Outer District today, who would have guessed she would find one of her friends there?  Her musings quieted as soon as the femme took note of Nessa’s changing demeanor.

Nessa wrote: "Oh dear, it seems we already have an inhabitant.”

Oh dear.  Livewire looked up the staircase as they approached.  She really must have not been paying attention if someone else lived here.  Oh, well.  Livewire watched Nessa for what she intended to do.  Oh, yes, they were going up.  The femme nodded to Nessa before she turned.  The quiet clacking of her metal heels against the floor would be hard to conceal, but surely if Nessa intended to keep the occupant unaware of their presence she would have told the femme to stay downstairs.  As it was, Livewire made her way up the surprisingly-stable staircase after Nessa, making enough noise without even trying to.

The heartbeat that had alerted Nessa before was soon joined by a variety of other noises emanating from that room on the second floor.  Something was being moved inside of the room, footsteps going back and forth, objects being shifted around, and amongst all that were the muffled curses of what seemed to be a rather irritated old woman.   The second floor was just as unkempt as the first.  A fine layer of dust coated the floor, and the walls were decorated by the ragged spirals of peeling wallpaper. Even without her sensitive nose, Nessa would have been able to easily see which room it was they were seeking.  The only disturbance in the dust along the floor was a simple pathway leading from the stairs to the third door on the right.  A louder, angry curse was shouted out from the room as something heavy hit the floor.

Livewire looked to Nessa once she reached the top.  Her optics flicked to the door that was letting out the commotion and if she had any brows to raise, one of them would be raised as another bout of foul language broke through.

From the simple commotion, which means that the person here isn't hiding, Nessa calms. No assailants, probably just someone who lives here. Oh... that would mean she's trespassing. Her nose crinkles. She had her eyes set upon this place the moment the dear Livewire found it. Ah, such a good child. She's grown rather fond of the femme's company and doesn't if mind her loudness.

She takes in the surroundings, the dust on the floor is a nice touch. Especially that trail to the third door on the right... She might keep it. For what she plans to do lies far beyond this simple building. She tugs on her coat's pockets and chews on her lip for a moment, her dreadlocks falling into her face as she has a small internal moment.

I wonder if I even have the power to create a shadowrealm anymore. Well... I guess we'll see.

The Piper straightens her back and clears her throat, stepping forward to the ruckus-ing room to knock twice on the door.

"Hello?" her accent shifts, sounding more American than her natural German. "I wasn't aware anyone lived here, it looks abandoned! I'm sorry if we're intruding." Her voice sounds perfectly apologetic. One learns to act proper in these situations.

Downstairs the rats continue their work, uncovering old papers, getting into empty cupboards and sniffing out any mice. In fact there are a few, so a gang of the sewerdwellers hiss inside of the walls and a squeaking tantrum happens downstairs as the swarm has a little snack.

Another group, who had stayed outside, went around the back to find a manhole. A direct route into the sewer. They squeak in approval. Suzanne, on Nessa's shoulder, perks up and looks toward the noise. She looks to Mother and pats her ear with a small paw before crawling down and going her merry way back down the steps to join in the inspection.

Nessa smiles at Suzanne and then to Livewire, stepping forward as she lightly turns the knob on the door, opening it up slowly and peering in.

Oh, such a pleasant introduction, Nessa!  Unfortunately, it seemed that the polite entry would not be returned in kind.   “ ‘Sorry if we’re introodin’ ‘, my wrinkehld hind!”  The voice calling through the door was filled with enough sass and contempt to send even the most steadfast door-to-door salesmen running.   With the creaking hinges of the opening door came the source of irritation that was currently tearing through her…yeah, looked to be a her, things.  Floating beside the crone was a dilapidated storage container that seemed to be crudely attached to a hoverboard with wire and solder. The words were all but worn away from the container, but that hardly bothered the old hag as she carelessly tossed a small box into the crate.   “Cahm intah a nice, queeit plahce, and next ting Ah know thar be putridness boili’ th veh’ri air!”  Skeletal hands whipped out from beneath the tattered sleeves of what could best be described as a monk’s robe, and the gray skin which stretched over the old crone’s harsh features yanked itself into a scowl.

“Moanths!  Moanths ta geet the steench out frem meh nettin’, ya’ve ROO-INET’ eht!”  The woman’s wiry gray hair coiled out of her bun in sharp slices as the thin flesh over her knuckles bruised purple with each new object she tossed haphazardly into the crate.   It smelled musty inside of the room, old and decaying, but less like a human and more like a reptile, as if it were a great crocodile currently berating the Piper.

She paid no mind to any words that Nessa spoke.  No, there would be nothing to dissuade this lovely lady from her griping.  Bony fingers hauled up an enormous rug that kicked up a plume of dust and filth as it was stuffed inside of the hovering suitcase.  Livewire, the poor femme, seemed to be in shock.  She wasn’t expecting someone to be here in the first place, not even to mention someone who held quite this amount of sheer contempt for everything, that the child merely stood at angle to Nessa with wide optics.  The crone didn’t share in the femme’s silence, and sneered as she made her opinion clear.   “So yee brot eh Hhhelpeer, di’ye’now?  Hope eet don’ meen deh mess

“…uh?”  This was a terrible time to have trouble with accents.

However terrible Livewire is with accents, a lengthy life on Earth has given her quite the understanding of accents and languages. She deceifers the heavy accented speak coming from the shrew of a woman, and decides to go the smoothest route to getting things settled.

She takes in the surroundings, her eyes doing a quick once-over before she settles on the ...thing in front of her. Nessa's hand reaches up to her scarf and she removes it from her mouth, as to seem more inviting, but tightens the buckles on her peacoat. One can never be too careful. Sudden motions from the old woman have her on edge internally, but she keeps her body relaxed. Whatever this resident is upset about, which she is still only slightly unsure about and mostly because she's not conveying it, it's something that can be dealt with in a calm manner. And hopefully in a manner that has nothing to do with ISOs hunting her down.

She wants to keep the illusion that she has fed dear Livewire. At least for now.

"Dear woman, what seems to be the issue? You are in so much distress and it's quite unfitting!~ What can I do to help you?" Her eyes look through the woman, Nessa's aura seeps out from her body and pools underneath her feet. She's preparing something, maybe a quick illusion if it gets physical, the aura she's storing will make her faster on the fly. More preparations...

Meanwhile the rats downstairs continue their search, finding shiny pieces of metal and loose screws. Suzanne busies herself gathering some of the children to lift the manhole cover, but without Mother in direct command, it's a bit slow. She sits on her haunches and gives a few of the bigger brothers a harsh look and they follow her outside to see what they can do.

Though the femme prided herself on mimicking manners of speech, subtle hints of body language that implied all of the layers of communication that went beyond words, accents were simply beyond her.   No matter how her mind rattled trying to translate the old hag, she simply could not put words to the sounds that were coming from her.   The femme frowned to herself, feeling as through she had been insulted, before conceding that Nessa was the one who would best be able to handle this particular situation.

The crone scoffed and muttered something that was more a grouping of grunts and hisses than actual words, her accent so thick that it hardly made its way past her thin lips. “ ‘elp?  Joo canne’ ‘elp when E-OORE the prol’lem, can yeh?”    She took a moment to give Nessa a pointedly offensive, disapproving glare as her visually frail old hands unceremoniously dropped a misshapen pillowcase into the hoverboard which, to its credit, did not bob under the new load.   Each step she took kicked up a plume of fine dust and dirt from the floor and her robes, coloring the air in beautiful rays that would be an asthmatic’s nightmare. “nae, I s’pose yeh canne’ ‘elp but tae bar-uge intae meh place, sprayin’ yeh stINK.   Just in yer nay-ture, ain’t it?”   She sneered once more as she condescendingly berated the two who had disturbed her.  In the what couldn’t have been five minutes since they had arrived, the old woman had neatly and efficiently packed up her room.  Only the shadows left in the dust served as memories of a bed, bookshelf and arrangement of baubles on the floor in a circular pattern that was at once distasteful and pleasing to the eye.  Like a maze made of knick-knacks, all of which now lay crammed in the leathery woman’s crude transporter.

For each jerky movement and sharp word, the woman never made any motion against Nessa or Livewire.  Instead she seemed perfectly content to grouch at them from her actions, scorn them for merely existing and move out instead of staking her claim.  No, she was vacating the premise with greater speed than Nessa’s family were populating it.   Grabbing the handle of the hovercart, she looked at Nessa and Livewire with a squinted eye and pulled lip, exposing small, flat yellow teeth all lined up in a row along her jaws.   “Ah’m leavin!  No gud stayin’ ere now, ya’ve done an’ filled it with yer oils.”  She huffed and drug her creaking bones forward towards the doorway that Nessa populated.  Still there was no active aggression, no jerks forward to strike.  Instead she was just a very old woman who was very aggravated and very intent on getting very far away from this area.  Such a creature of habit that would leave only the dust trails seen outside in the hallway apparently could not handle even this minor disturbance.  She would sooner abandon her nest then see it corrupted further by any attempts at conflict.

Livewire, to her credit, was barely keeping up with the conversation.  Barely.  Kinda.  She was in the general gist of it, she thought.  The woman was leaving, but…that was more from her trying to leave than it was from Livewire actually understanding what she said.

To say that Nessa was patient would be quite the lie. On surface, she can act out anything she wished. But in this certain situation, she would rather slit the womanthing's throat and let the family have quite the oddly herbed and spiced feast. It's taking all the Piper has not to wrinkle her nose at the woman. She's left better places than this, but of course in this new city this place is ideal for inconspicuousness. As the woman before her hoots, hollers, and otherwise confounds the sparkplugs loose out of Livewire, Nessa offers a calm smile to her yellow cybertronian friend. It'll be fine, she seems to be on her way out. Good. One less worry today. No blood at all. She can feel the disappointment emanating from the mischief below.

As the woman turns to leave the room, the Piper slips to the side to let her out. Good riddance. Nessa's as good as claimed the place already. She sends a small mental message to her children, and they scatter into all the little nooks and crannies, shrouding themselves in the process, but instinct to hide doesn't stop them from finding hidey holes.

Nessa says nothing to the crocodile-like female thing as she passes by, and stands almost triumphantly as the thing's back turns. She winks at Livewire and smiles brightly. In truth, she's quite excited to finally have a base of operations. A home as it were. The sewers were homey and such, but she didn't have what she truly wanted until now. She bites her lower lip in excitement and walks over to her friend, draping an arm around the spiky shoulders carefully.

She whispers to the child, "Well, the crone left, let's be on about this little house warming party, shall we?"

Making sure the thing that formerly inhabited this place left, simply by listening until the woman left the building, she pulls her coat aside, a dark presence already making all the light in the room dim. She walks into the hallway and looks to the side, into another room. Going about her own little business, she picks up a tallish floor mirror and dusts it off. Rats beginning to flood into the upstairs with abandon. Sniffing everything, poking at the tracks in the dust from the old one, and in general making a home out of Livewire's feet and shoulders.

"Ah! This will do just lovely." Nessa hefts the mirror up, and carefully brings it to the end of the hallway, ignoring the rest of the building's rooms. Leaning the mirror against the wall she gathers a bit of aura in her hand, the smell of blood thickening the air, and she drops the ball into the ground, where it seeps into the wood. After a small moment, dark vines of wood creep up and entwine with the rather boring looking mirror, framing it and pulling it flush to the side of the wall. To any onlooker, it seems to be just as dusty, and simply hung on the wall.

A bead of sweat appears on Nessa's forehead and her ears ring. She takes a quick breath and lets out a soft cough. Phew... Alright. She's still got some juice left in her, but she's still weak. She turns to Livewire, in whatever pose the femme is in at the moment, and smiles.

"Now this is where the fun is.

Nessa draws Carnwennan, a whispered scream can be heard as she flicks the knife from her hand and into the mirror, where it sticks in. No shards. No break. Simply slides through as if it were flesh. It glows dark purple for a moment before Nessa brings her hands up to meet the aura of the dagger. Her reddish aura turning dark black immediately as she feeds it as much power as she can.

Within the mirror, the vision of the opposite of the room flickers, contorts, and then finally swaps completely. The normal for a mirror image would make you see the opposite, not anymore... Nessa brings up her right hand to her head to hold it, she grunts softly as her mind throbs. She walks up and pulls Carnwennan out of the mirror, the glass rippling like liquid. The Nessa in the mirror also does so, but not in mirror image. Her actual right hand comes out and pulls another dagger out.

    Nessa smiles. Confounding. Confusing. Perfect.

"Welcome to my humble abode, dearie." Nessa turns her tired eyes and smile toward Livewire, and puts her hand on her hip. She doesn't get much time to show off, but when she does, she absolutely revels in the moment that no one knows what she even did.

The rats look all toward their mother excitedly and then rush at the mirror, jumping in and dissappearing. All but Suzanne, who now is sitting her haunches on Livewire's shoulder and tugging at a sensor of sorts toward the mirror Nessa stands next to.
