    Tired and Wandering

Grodus had been wandering through the strange city he found himself in, probably for a few hours now. As much as he hated to admit it, even though he could read most of the signs, he was hopelessly lost. Not even the Mushroom Kingdom had a city this large, at least as far as he observed from the moon base. The distant memories of his homeworld provided better examples, but not even those were this large.

In any case, he was lost, his magical power was the lowest it had ever been, and given the thrashing he'd taken from Mario a few hours prior, he was reaching the upper limits of his endurance. Surely there was somewhere in this huge city where he could rest for a while? Just a place to sit down would be nice . . . he was so exhausted that spotting a humble street bench up ahead of him almost seemed like a blessing from whatever gods his people worshiped.

Thankfully there wasn't any snow on said bench, and so Grodus moved to sit down, letting loose a tired sigh as he did. For a long while afterward there wasn't a sound from him, so focused on trying to recuperate as he was, but eventually a few notes of helpless laughter escaped him. Was it truly possible to have fallen so far in a single day, or rather, the space of a few hours? The world around him held no answers, and he was too worn out to seek further, currently.

Just a few minutes here and then he could move on. Just a few more minutes . . .

Anyone nearby might hear some faint snoring coming from the strangely dressed sorcerer at that point . . .

Truth be told, Vaati very rarely ventured down to the city. He often found it to be far too noisy and bustling for his liking… and especially far too full of inferior beings that he would just rather not deal with unless if he absolutely had to. Hyrule Town was one thing, but this city… only the shades that reminded him of home were really interesting to him. Those had increased over the past couple of years, but the fact remained that this was a different world…

All the same, Vaati had adapted to it. The likes of some strange world were nothing for him… and even though he had taken to biding his time even more than he was already used to here, so far, it had been much to his advantage.

He was a mighty sorcerer who sought to restore his power and gain even more from that, but even though he typically kept to himself and preferred the environment of the wilderness and his own Palace of Winds, he did recognize the need to visit the city from time to time. If nothing else, it was good to investigate some of the shops from time to time, and of course keep even more current with important and relevant things than just what he was able to see from his abode… and that was already quite a lot.

As the Wind Mage made his way back out of the heart of the city so that he could disappear back into the sky properly, he happened upon a most curious sight… atop a bench of all places.

Was that… another sorcerer sleeping on the bench? Magic-user or not, that was just… odd.

Vaati narrowed his red gaze as he looked over the strange being, folding his arms as he stopped just shy of the bench, inwardly debating as to whether he would further investigate this individual or simply go on his way. There was something… interesting about him, though…

There was a faint flickering of the lights behind that clear panel on Grodus's head as his sensors began detecting another magic user in the vicinity. Whoever it was, they were reasonably strong, and it was this reason alone that caused his systems to force him to wake. Still, with how little he was able to rest so far, he didn't have the energy to do much of anything in response if this other mage decided to be hostile.

Grodus did manage to stir enough to match gazes with his new observer. Huh, was that a child standing there before him? Looking a bit deeper, he mentally shook his head to himself. No, the being behind those crimson eyes was so much older than appearances indicated, much older and wiser indeed. He was likely just investigating any possible competition on his territory, as any competent dark mage worth his salt would do. There was a chance this 'boy' would find it more useful to dispatch him right here, though it was rather slim.

What little energy Grodus regained from his short nap was fading fast, and so he did the one thing that might help him survive before groaning faintly and passing out again: he gave the mental command to summon enough of his X creatures to form a barrier. In an instant, four vaguely X-shaped things with a single eye each appeared hovering next to him, and working in tandem they did one of the two jobs they were created for, generating a transparent green energy field to protect their master. They would not attack themselves unless directed, and with Grodus unconscious there wasn't any chance of that.

The things would just hover there, keeping the barrier up and staring at anything that came across them. Maybe it might be worth it to try and catch one? They would certainly make something interesting to study...

    "HONK!!"

One would think that leaving geese alone would be the smart thing to do, considering how mean they can get. Well, Nym, though smart, wasn't really scared of them, and he had been chasing a small group of them around a pond for quite a while, barking and 'honking' at them as they 'honked' back. They weren't very happy with this situation, being paraded around like a bunch of sheep about to be corralled into a pen, and they were getting very tired of the dog's attempts to snip at their legs. He wasn't their commander, after all.

HONK, one bellowed loudly as if from no where. It was far larger than Nym, and it lowered its neck as it glared at the dog. "... Honk?" HONK. "ARGH!" The Digimon had his tail tucked between his legs as he started to run away, the large goose following behind with its wings spread wide and letting out deep, terrifying honks as it attempted to attack him and chase it away from the flock he had been terrorizing for a good few hours now.

Ducking under a fence or two, the goose gave up its chase when it knew Nym was out of sight and his territory, and it waddled back over to its herd.

Nym, however, was still running, turning quickly around corners and not looking ahead of himself. The idea of a goose being at--
    BANG!

    "Ow..."
Laying on his back, he had gotten a bump on his head, having run into... woah. WOAH. What was that??

Nym slowly got up, rubbing his head and then leaning down, sniffing the odd... magic wall. "..." for a moment, he though this was an hallucination, perhaps he had hit is head a little too hard... because the wall and what was inside of the bubble looked way to strange to be real.

Smooshing his hands and face against the magical bubble, making squeaky noises, Nym tried to break through it, to no success, of course. When that failed, he decided to do what all animals tend to do when they came across something new and strange; he licked the bubble, but it revealed to have no flavoring and he was still unsure of the creature inside of it. It looked so... fancy. But was it alive? Should he knock? Should he leave it alone?

Should he keep licking this strange magical bubble of strangeness until the being took notice and probably shot at him with some kind of death glare?

    Yes.

Vaati noticed the lights above this individual's head flicker just for a moment before the two sorcerers locked gazes. Interesting… this was a being unlike any he had ever encountered here before. Sure he had come across those from far different worlds even within their own universes here, and those that had varying levels of machinery as part of their constitution, but this one… no, he was very different. Whoever he was, he definitely had the potential for great power… it was locked away and weakened as happened with any new arrival on the Breach, but the Wind Mage could still detect traces of it there.

    Very interesting…

No matter how weakened this one was from his arrival though, he appeared to be incredibly exhausted, but not so drained that he could not summon some creatures of his own. Four small X-shaped things with a single eye not entirely unlike his eyebats suddenly appeared, and just as the new sorcerer fell unconscious once more, the curious creatures began to create a green barrier around the tired sorcerer.

Vaati looked over the new creatures for several moments before deciding that it might behoove him to take one for his own in order to study it. Perhaps one of these could enlighten him about other sources of power as well as provide some insight as to just who this new person was. Just as he was about to catch one within a wind spell though, a strange, blue dog came running up out of nowhere before promptly colliding with the energy barrier. What…

The wind mage looked to the newcomer, narrowing his red eyes at this animal smooched its face right up against the barrier before proceeding to… wait, was it… yes… yes it was. This creature was licking the barrier.

As odd as this behavior was, Vaati did not spend much time pondering it. Instead, whilst the blue dog was preoccupied, he himself held out his right hand, summoning a small wind spell as he entrapped on of the X-things inside of it, just before using his magic to pull it towards him.

Well, what a strange situation this was. Grodus was still pretty much out of it, though the Xes seemed to watch their visitors curiously. The little summons didn't have much of a mind to think with, but even they thought this little fuzzy blue thing suddenly licking their barrier was odd.

Things were about to get more interesting, however, as that wind spell cast by Vaati latched onto an X and started to pull it away. It tried to pull in the opposite direction, but it was to no avail, Vaati was simply too strong. The things would easily fall victim to Mario's wind spirit partner, after all, this spell at the moment would be no exception. As Vaati claimed his prize and likely headed off, without the power distributed across all four of the Xes, the inevitable soon occurred.

The barrier gained a few cracks and then shattered in an instant, ethereal green shards scattering everywhere before fading into thin air. This wouldn't have harmed the blue fuzzball that was licking said barrier, though it might've been a bit startling. The remaining three Xes floated into action then, trying to nudge the dog creature in the opposite direction from their master. It certainly wasn't an attack, they were just sort of gently trying to push him away or at least get some distance between him and their master.

With all this activity close by, Grodus couldn't help but start to wake up again. Hnnngh, did the universe not want him to rest for a while or what? He blearily regarded his latest visitor, and admittedly his first thought was to unload a lightning spell on them for the sheer audacity of waking him up, but it seemed the only thing he was strong enough to cast was his weakest fire spell. As irritated as he was, something told him to hold back, if only because he might be able to get information about where he was from this whatever it was. He dismissed his Xes with another command, and they all vanished for the moment.

Hopefully the fuzzy thing could talk, because the sorcerer voiced the questions that were bothering him since he arrived here. "You. Furry blue thing. What city is this? It certainly isn't Rogueport, the architecture is too different. This isn't even the same planet I was on before, is it?"

Grodus would wait until he got answers to those before he asked anything else, like where he could finally rest without being disturbed, or see to the repairs he needed.

Not noticing Vaati, Nym continued to... sample the odd bubble. But when it burst, Nym thought he had broken it somehow, not knowing that the Wind Mage nearby had taken one of the little floating X things. Knocked back a bit in surprise, the Digimon blinked and snorted, not sure what had just happened until the X's began to nudge at him. DID THEY WANT HUGS? No, it seemed more like they wanted him to go away! But Nym wanted to talk to the bulbous headed being! And also catch one of the X things! It could fly around and Mr. Soot-cat could play with it! A perfect plan!

The fancy-dressed guy made them disappear, though, much to Nym's sadness and he stood up, staring directly at him with no intention of turning away or giving off even the slightest hint of fear.

    It spoke! What joy!
"This is Portal City. You're in Portal Breach! This place is nice and has lots of neat things and people running around! And I don't know what planet this is..." was Portal Breach a planet? If it was, was the name of it Portal Breach? These questions came to mind, but Nym had to let them go for the moment as this person was obviously new and they appeared tired.

"Do you want to go to a safer place and sleep? Cause I think I broke your bubble by accident, I didn't know it'd break by licking it! You need a better bubble! Can you roll in it like a hamster?" The joys of wanting to roll inside a giant ball! Perhaps this person didn't want to as they looked too fancy and fragile, but Nym would gladly do it! Maybe if he was given an X thing...

    Hint hint.

Vaati watched carefully as his wind spell began to pull the small, green X-thing away, a sly grin gracing his features once he confirmed that his power was more than enough to do just what he'd hoped it might. He was still weaker than his true state of course, especially for matters of attack power, but at least his strength was still there. Oh, this was a small feat, but still quite the nice one for the Wind Mage.

His prize claimed, Vaati suddenly disappeared once a simple gust of wind moved past him. Still holding the green X in his grasp though, he returned to the Palace of Winds, swiftly placing his quarry inside of an empty bottle so that it would not disappear any time soon. He was still curious about this new sorcerer that had appeared, but he did not want to run the risk of being revealed by simply holding onto this green X. He was capable of quite a bit of stealth, a skill gained both from is former Minish self as well as his own magical prowess, but it was foolish to take chance. After all… what good was hidden observation if one was to be caught?

With a soft chuckle to himself as he placed the bottle in a safe spot within his quarters, Vaati soon cast another wind spell, this one carrying him right back to the area he had just been in. This time however, he silently took up a spot concealed in the branches of a nearby tree. Ah, so the sorcerer had awoken, had he?

Rogueport? Now that name was not familiar at all… just where was this new magic user from?

Smirking a bit as the blue dog explained just where they were and how he thought he had broken the bubble barrier by licking it, Vaati kept his position, still highly intrigued by the newcomer. He was a little curious about the young canine as well… just what sort of creature was he? Certainly not a Wolfos…

And then suddenly Grodus was presented with quite a bit of information at once, and it took him a moment to fully process all of it, given his current tired state. "Portal City? Portal Breach? I can't say I've heard of either, but you don't seem like you have reason to lie. You certainly look like an honest little dog thing, at least."

The part about the bubble confused the sorcerer a bit, at least until he recalled he had put a barrier up earlier. Hearing it shatter was ultimately what woke him back up again. "You mean my barrier, and you merely licking the field wouldn't have broken it . . . there's only one way that could have happened." He trailed off for a moment, focusing on calling his Xes back out. To Grodus's slight surprise, only three of the little green creatures reappeared. "Hmm, one of my Xs has gone missing; there need to be four of them to properly project a force field."

He'd gotten a bit distracted with that, so much so that it only occurred to Grodus that he'd been asked about a safer place to sleep after he initially spoke. "Ah, yes, a safer place to rest would be wonderful, considering something has either made off with or eaten one of my summons . . ."

He was right, Grodus was new here! It was also comforting to know that Nym did not break the bubble by licking it, and he was glad that the strange new being was not angry. Tilting his head a bit, he listened as Grodus mentioned something about those... X thingies. What about them? Nym didn't take it! He wouldn't, either. He didn't even know he COULD take it. "I'm sorry, I didn't take your little X baby thing, but I can help you find it?" he suggested as his tail wagged. "And I didn't eat it, I swear!"

Nym eats a lot of things, but never anything that was someone else's food. Er, thing. Whatever it was. But Grodus agreed to go with him to the inn, and Nym was glad to help. "Oh sure! The Inn isn't too far away. It's really nice and comfy, and you can get a lot of information, too! You even get free housing!" Free is nice, no? Nym ran around Grodus in a circle and waited for the sorcerer to be ready to move forward, as to which Nym would lead him off to the inn with great happiness and excitement.

Sure enough, the sorcerer proved even more that he was new here… if Vaati's own observations had not been enough, the questioning of both the city and the world here confirmed it. Now there was still the question of just who this magic-user was and where he was from, but those were things that the wind mage knew he could determine later. There was no need to rush, after all.

As the conversation turned back to the barrier that had broken, Vaati listened extra closely, just before he smirked a bit more at confirming that the barrier could only work if there were four of those little Xs. Whether this new arrival turned out to be an ally, a foe, or just a neutral resident here (with regards to the wind mage himself, of course), it was still very useful information.

In short order, the sorcerer decided to take the little dog thing up on his offer of finding a safer place to rest, just before the inn was suggested. The inn… that was where both of the blasted incarnations of the hero and that infernal Sage of Shadow stayed… it was excellent lodging to be sure, but Vaati certainly had his own reasons for not wanting to venture there unless if he had to.

At the offer to help look for the missing X, Grodus merely shrugged. "There's no need for that; while my Xs are useful indeed, they are also quite disposable. I can summon another whenever I wish." In demonstration he did call out another of the strange creatures. When combined with the three already hovering around him, the barrier from before reappeared.

The barrier and the X things only stuck around for another few moments, as the sorcerer decided he did not currently need either and thus dismissed the small green creatures. The green energy field faded rather than shattered this time. With that done, Grodus focused on Nym again. "This inn you speak of is free? How convenient; I am a bit short on funds at the moment. Lead the way . . . I do hope it's not far, but I believe I should be able to endure a bit more walking to get there."

He stood up to follow the little blue dog creature to wherever that inn might be.

Ooh, so they weren't really important? Nym would've asked for one, but it was best not to. This person seemed very strange and interesting to say the least, but he also knew that the being was tired! Better get to the inn quickly then! When asked how far it would be, Nym hopped around him like a little dog excitedly and merely stated, "it's just up the road and a few turns, it's not that far! It'll only take a few minutes!" he assured and kept hopping.

There was little else for them to speak of, as Nym was merely trying to remember how to even get to the inn at this time. He knew, it's just... his mind raced so much, he would lose track of certain, important features. But, worry not! He'd get Grodus there safely and bark back any intruders or others who wanted to maybe attack them!

That would probably never happen, but let him be a guard dog, would you?

((I think this thread is done, if you don't then you can post again! Otherwise, it feels finished to me.))

Vaati listened rather intently as the sorcerer described how the little X creatures were just as useful as they were disposable. Aah, now that sounded rather like his eyebats and other simple monsters at least in principle… that coupled with his following demonstration were certainly worthy of note.

Now that the green barrier was able to be canceled on command instead of being broken, the Wind Mage caught how it appeared to fade this time instead of shatter. Most interesting indeed.

As the newest arrival to the Breach took the small, blue dog up on his offer to head towards the inn, Vaati lingered and watched for a few more moments, making the absolute most of this chance for observation. Hm… this new sorcerer was certainly an interesting fellow from the looks of it… perhaps he would have to see about running into him at a later date. It wold certainly prove interesting if nothing else once he was no longer exhausted. For now though, it was best for him to return to the Palace of Winds and study the green X he had captured.

As quickly and silently as he had first arrived in the tree, Vaati soon disappeared from the park all together. Today had been a rather strange chance encounter, but chance encounters could sometimes prove to be the most meaningful ones…

That had been true for him many times back in Hyrule, and he was determined to make that hold just as true here.

((I'd say that this pretty much wraps it up!))
