"Heh-heh." Link himself had heard the rumbling noise that Zurg was capable of making, but it had been a very long time since he had. As such, he could not help but widen his eyes in surprise, right before grinning further as the four of them shared one particularly nice, strong hug. The Hero of Time knew that the butler only gave hugs to a select few, so it was especially neat to be able to get one from him no matter what form he currently had.

Making sure to put his all into the hug as well, Link was still grinning a bit himself once it ended. He nodded in agreement with Ciela's translation of Link's sentiment, right before chuckling a bit at her note about the bear encounter. Tatl simply chimed in amusement as she herself added, "I bet that was a sight." She'd already been intrigued when Lawrence had first mentioned it, and after having been with Link when he himself was still getting used to three different forms back in Termina around fighting off enemies, she knew all too well that it could be tricky to fight something you know when you're unfamiliar with your own form.

At Link's written question, the younger boy curiously glanced to Lawrence. Maybe he'd told Impa about what had happened before the three of them had returned home, but… had he actually taken care of it, or had it retreated for the day?

Sheik knew that Lawrence was especially selective with his hugs, and considering that, she was always very happy to know that she was in the short list of those worthy of them. She might not have had quite the same friendship with the butler that Impa did, but she still felt rather close to him, and past that, there was a certain bond that she was rather grateful for. After all, Lawrence had been the very first person she had encountered once she had been whisked away to the Breach. Their initial meeting might have come about from her asking him for directions, but once he recognized the Eye of the Sheikah on her tunic, he was able to help her even further, pointing her in the direction of not only the Stock Pot Inn, but to Impa as well. The disguised princess would have likely adapted just fine on her own and eventually run into her guardian, but after the circumstances of her arrival, a friendly presence had been very welcome.

That friendship had grown since then, and here she was, able to see Lawrence during a temporary transformation. As she hugged the butler back, Sheik found herself grinning not only at the strong hug she was receiving from him, but also at catching the very faint albeit contented rumble emanating from the butler. She raised her eyebrows slightly, as although she had heard the noise at least once before, it still made her feel happy to hear it. Grinning further, she tightened her own part of the hug just a tough, holding it steady before the hug ended.

Nodding along with Ciela, Link, and Link, Sheik noted, "You're always strong, and this is just a new outward show of it." Regardless, it had certainly been a very special hug, more from the fact of who it was from than just what his current form was.

At Link's next question inspired by Ciela's own musing, Sheik blinked before glancing back to Lawrence. He had detailed how he had to fight the bear off and that he had been injured in the encounter, but whilst he was clearly safe and sound, that did leave the bear's fate rather open. The forest could certainly be unpredictable, but just like her two best friends, the disguised princess was curious about what had happened around Lawrence's being able to return home.

Oh yes, that was a wonderful group hug, Lawrence smiling faintly beneath the veil as he pulled away. He was glad to have befriended those he had here on the Breach, and these three were certainly no exception.

And, being children, sometimes they asked the most precocious questions. The butler was a bit taken aback for a second or two, especially given what happened, but if they wanted the story he would tell it. "That bear . . . it pursued us through the forest either wanting to pilfer an easy meal or it just wanted to eat us. We thought we managed to escape it, but when we reached a clearing with an odd tree in the middle, the beast ambushed us. Zurg was knocked unconscious, leaving only myself able to defend the two of us."

The monarch being in danger was what spurred him to action, he remembered. "There were a few moments where I nearly faltered, but I fought that monstrous bear to a standstill. I would have killed the beast myself, if we had not wandered too close to that tree in the middle of the clearing."

Lawrence still couldn't believe it himself, though given what Impa had once said about a Deku Tree, his current audience might not find it so far-fetched. "In an instant there was a rush of brown and green just in front of me, when I could see again the bear was crushed into the ground. The tree somehow lashed out and ended the creature, and I would have suffered the same fate if Zurg hadn't pulled me out of the way in time."

Impa smiled a bit more at the endearing group hug that Lawrence shared with her three charges, happy to see that they had got to have that nice moment, as well as pleased for the subtle, positive effect it had undoubtedly had on each of them. Shortly after the hug itself ended, Ciela noted that the butler's strength here made perfect sense given his earlier encounter with the bear. That mention seemed to spark a new question from the Hero of Winds, and Link soon asked just what had become of the bear.

Whilst Lawrence had already detailed this adventure to Impa, the rest of the story was brand new for Link, Link, and Sheik. Her friend seemed to be a bit surprised by the question, but after a moment, he was set to regale them with his encounter. Listening to the retelling of this story, once more the Sheikah found herself able to imagine it perfectly. The forest around Lawrence and Zurg, the bear pursuing them, even some of the nearly palpable adrenaline that he had undoubtedly experienced then. It had certainly been something of a harrowing experience for him, but as she had told him just a little while ago, the important thing was that he and Zurg were both safe. The chase was not exactly an intended part of the experience, but she was still certain that it was bound to have a good lingering effect for Lawrence, both in his bond with the monarch as well as in augmenting what he gained from this week transformed.

Around gauging the reactions of her three charges, Impa saw that once more their own youthful curiosity had been met with their maturity beyond their years, especially given the details of the bear's fate. "Again, at least you are both safe and sound. Also, some of it might have been in tandem, but that was certainly some great teamwork between you and Zurg. I'd say that counts for something along with you completing the trial successfully."

Ciela raised an eyebrow and Link mimicked the action with his eyebrows. Both fairy and innkeeper eyed their transformed friend from his face down to his toes, then back up again. An easy meal? With both Lawrence’s new body shape and also that of Lawrence, they rather questioned the bear’s thoughts of them being the easy meal. Just look at how tall Zurg was! The wild animal would have a much easier time catching a deer or something. On further consideration, the fairy and boy supposed that the conservative clothing of the Xrghthu might give an illusion that they were peaceful beings and wouldn’t fight back. Or perhaps the bear was that starved that he would chase anything down.

OR the bear was just simply HUGE. Like a boss bear! As if in evidence of how its size and strength, Lawrence’s retelling of his and Zurg’s encounter went on to how Zurg was knocked unconscious. Wow, that must be one very, very strong bear. Link would have wanted to have see it, even though such a meeting would undoubtedly be dangerous for him and his friends. Still, it did not stop him imagining and being curious. It must be impressive and going up against it must be no easy feat.

For Lawrence to fight it to a standstill was also a testament to the transformed robot’s strength. Again, Link was amazed how Lawrence adapted so quickly to the new body. When their friend said he went to this shaman place prepared, he meant it. How long had Lawrence studied Zurg before he made the choice to change, Link wondered.

Hearing the final fate of the bear, Link winced. Thank goodness Zurg had pulled him out of the way. Squashed by a tree, that wasn’t a pretty way to go.

“I agree, that some good teamwork you and Zurg have,” Ciela said and Link nodded alongside. “Despite how dangerous it was, it's comforting to know that, even transformed into a less familiar body, you can still hold your own and emerge safe from the ordeal. I’d imagine Jo must have been very happy to see both of you return home intact.”

Link blinked as Lawrence paused at Link's question, inwardly wondering if the encounter with the bear had been even more harrowing than a simple fight. He appeared not to mind the curiosity too much though, and a moment later, he was recounting the tale. Listening intently as the butler described how the bear had chased after them, Link raised his eyebrows at the mention of an odd tree. An odd tree? What exactly was odd about it? Was it anything like the Great Deku Tree?

The Hero of Time flinched the slightest bit as Lawrence noted how Zurg had been knocked unconscious, and whilst he had no doubt that their friend could defend himself in either form, it still sounded like an incredibly intense experience. Sure enough, the butler nearly faltered a couple of times, but again, that tree was mentioned… not only had they got closer to it, it had lashed out and crushed the bear before them. "Wow…"

Having grown up in the Kokiri Forest and getting used to exploring the Lost Woods, Link was used to all sorts of trees, from normal saplings all the way to the Great Deku Tree himself. Most were pretty normal, but even though he'd never heard of one that would just crush anything that came too close, it was certainly not outside of the realm of possibility in his mind. He let out a relieved sigh as Lawrence described how Zurg had come to and pulled him out of the way, for even though the fate of the bear was a grim one, at least their friends were safe.

Smiling a bit at Impa's words and Ciela's agreement, Link noted, "Yeah. That was definitely an unexpected ending! I've heard of a lot of different trees, but not any like that. I'm glad that you were able to fend off the bear and that Zurg got you out of the way in time!"

"Seriously," added Tatl. "There's nothing quite like returning home after an unexpected encounter like that."

Sheik could tell that Lawrence was a bit surprised by Link's question, but despite the events with the bear, he thankfully didn't seem to mind it too much. Hopefully, that reaction was more out of remembering the events themselves than anything too unpleasant… however, given the away that he began to speak again, she had a strong feeling that it was at least a little distressing.

The bear must have been as large as it was vicious to have pursued not one but two X'rghthu, and the disguised princess couldn't help but think that the bear might have favored the easy meal over two healthier targets. Regardless, the fact remained that it had chased both Lawrence and Zurg, soon rendering the latter unconscious. Sheik winced sympathetically at that mention before nodding as the butler detailed how he had to defend the two of them on his own. Now if that wasn't a test of skill in his new form, she didn't know what was. "I'm glad you weren't too hurt in that fight."

Sheik listened with even greater anticipation as Lawrence described his defense with the bear, her red eyes widening a touch when he mentioned that once the battle reached a standstill he would have killed the bear himself. Given the way that he said that as well as his next statement about the odd tree though, the disguised princess had a strong feeling that this story was going to have a surprise turn in it.

Sure enough, that tree was apparently semi-sentient, and had lashed out against the bear, crushing it on the spot. It was a a shame that the bear had led itself to such a fate, but what mattered the most was that both Lawrence and Zurg were safe, even if the former had to be pulled out of the way before his shock at the scene would have had him follow after the bear.

Nodding to echo Impa, Ciela, and Link, Sheik gestured with her left hand as she noted, "I really am glad you're both safe from that unfortunate encounter. I know that it turned into an unintended training bout, but I hope that there are at least some good memories attached to the trip." Pausing as she held her right hand forward as well, she added, "I bet it was especially nice to get home after all of that, and  of course to see Jo again."

Hmm, good memories involved with the trip? Lawrence had to think back a bit, given how much their dealings with that stupid bear had occupied them, but yes there were some good things about it all. "Well, I did end up taking down that herd beast in one strike. Also, to find that herd beast and then Zurg a bit later on, I was able to Listen to the planet's voice. It's not really a 'voice' as you would know it . . . it's rather difficult to explain, it's something you have to feel to truly understand."

It was also one of the many reasons Zurg's people showed such disdain towards robots, as machines apparently could not Listen as the organic X'rghthu could. Kind of sad in a way, that they believed artificial intelligence did not qualify as life simply because they lacked this particular skill. At least Zurg himself didn't feel that way, not anymore.

Moving on from that, there was the memory of the two of them coming home with their prize, battered and bloody, but still in one piece. Jo... hadn't reacted well at all. "Going home would have been lovely, if we hadn't startled Jo with how badly we looked after all that fighting. She marched us to the side of the house and then hosed us off . . . certainly not fun with how injured I was." The butler let out a bit of a snicker at what happened after that, though. "Zurg certainly turned the tables on her afterward. She made the mistake of saying he could not get her to do anything she didn't want to, and so he simply snatched her up and started mercilessly licking her feet. It was rather like watching an overexcited dog licking someone's face..."

As she had thought, Link, Link, and Sheik were all thoroughly enthralled with Lawrence's story. More than that, despite the harrowing escape that he'd had to make, having been asked about good memories regarding the outing appeared to have got the butler to reflect further on his trial. There was apparently some good in it, even if it had not been at the forefront of his mind until now. Still, since he did recall it, Impa was pleased that he was able to take the positive aspects from his adventure, and she imagined that they might later add to other ones from this entire experience for her friend.

Taking the beast down in a single strike was impressive on its own, and the method used to find it was certainly intriguing. "Listening to the planet's voice…" mused Impa, nodding as Lawrence noted that it was something best experienced instead of explained. Some things were simply like that, but at least this was another unique thing that he got to try firsthand during this transformation. "It might not be the same, but I suppose it might be at least comparable to our own ability to hear special messages. Those are typically more of a magical nature, but only Hylians and Sheikah are able to detect them."

Jo's reaction to Lawrence and Zurg's return had at least been slightly better than her discovery of having to live with two X'rghthu for a week. Impa quirked a sympathetic brow at the mention of being hosed off whilst injured, although that soon shifted to an amused chuckle at hearing about what Zurg had done next. "That is certainly one way to disprove her point. At least being hosed off could have been worse… and I imagine it only made your first shower all the more rejuvenating."

It was Link’s all not to show any expression, but a neutral one at the thought of anybody licking anybody’s feet. That was just… no, Link, don’t look down at your own feet. Resist the temptation. Do NOT shudder at the thought of feet licking. Let’s just move on, be a polite and mature big boy and… just blink at Lawrence blankly.

Coming to his rescue was Ciela, who remarked, “Hearing voices, like in your head? I hope they were polite and nice voices. It would be a little unsettling if it was a great big booming voice in your head, especially if it was the first time you experienced something like that.”

Recovering his stupor, Link nodded sympathetically as he waved the thoughts of feet licking from his mind and concentrated on other details their friend had disclosed. Whilst the boy had no qualms about getting soaking wet no matter the weather, it was another thing entirely to be hosed down while injured. He almost wanted to wince at the very thought and was suddenly very, very thankful that had never happened to himself.

“I guess it’s faster than taking a shower and so it shortened the time towards being ready for treatment for your injuries,” Link wrote. “I hope you got something to warm you up afterwards. The weather is still quite cold after all.”

Aaaah, the feeling of being freezing cold, then going indoors and slowly defrost. There wasn’t anything quite like it.

Link nodded as Lawrence noted how he did end up taking down the herd beast with a single hit, soon raising his eyebrows as the butler described how he had to Listen to the planet's voice. That sounded very interesting, and the more he thought on it, the more he wondered if it anything like hearing the Great Deku Tree speak. Ciela's sentiment was definitely shared by both the Hero of Time and Tatl, much the same way that Impa's own note made a great deal of sense to him. Being able to pick up special messages was really tricky to describe, especially since it had become second nature to him at this point, but hopefully that would help the butler's own comparison further.

The idea of being hosed off whilst injured was one thing, but factoring in the current temperatures outside was another matter entirely. Link couldn't help but think that that might have been even more unpleasant than any of his trips into the frigid waters outside of the Ice Cavern in Hyrule's future, but at least Lawrence had a hot shower waiting on him. Those were one of the innovations of this world that Link absolutely loved, and just as his first one here had been amazing, he hoped that the butler had enjoyed his.

"I hope you didn't have to stay outside for too long around that," noted Link before managing to laugh a little at hearing about Zurg's antics. It certainly wasn't something he could imagine doing, but he supposed it was a funny way to turn things around on Jo.

Although Lawrence had to take a moment to think back on any good memories from his adventure, Sheik was very glad that he was able to pinpoint them. Even around the hazards of encountering both that bear and tree, it seemed that he had taken some good from the experience, including his one-hit strike and his chance to Listen to the planet's voice. That alone sounded intriguing, and even as Ciela had a kind sentiment, the disguised princess found herself wondering if Listening in such a way way anything like what Impa described. Being able to hear special messages was a natural ability, and training that skill further was certainly a fun and worthwhile endeavor. Having the chance to pick up on those messages, be they hidden areas, secret hints, or anything else was certainly a great boon, but like Listening to the planet's voice, it was rather difficult to describe.

"Wow… it might not be easy to explain, but it certainly sounds interesting," noted Sheik. Inwardly hoping that the skill might be at least somewhat similar to their own unique ability, she glanced from Impa to the butler, adding, "I'm glad you got to experience it and that it helped you."

Sheik could not help but wince sympathetically at the thought of being hosed off in such a fashion. It was bad enough that Lawrence and Zurg had startled Jo, but to add insult to injury, she hosed them off in the middle of winter. The note about how the monarch had got revenge on the mechanic had her blinking in surprise though… whilst she wondered what might have compelled him to do that particular action, one that was downright baffling to her, at the very least, the general point had been proven false.

"Ha-ha… it sounds like your return home was nearly as eventful as the hunting trip," stated Sheik. With a nod to echo Link's sentiment about having something warm, she then said, "Even with the bandages, you certainly seem nice and refreshed from all that."

At the repeated mentions of it probably being quite cold, Lawrence had to remark on one particular quirk of X'rghthu biology. "Yes, I was quite cold for a while thanks to getting soaked, but one interesting thing about Zurg's kind is how quickly they can recover from cold temperatures. We were relatively warm again in short order; Zurg and I were fine taking care of our injuries right there on the front porch. The one disadvantage of this seems to be we cannot tolerate very high temperatures."

There was of course still more story to tell, and the butler went on, though the children would probably be surprised at how long he and Zurg did end up staying outside. "Afterwards, we did still have to dress our kill, so we hauled it into the backyard and did just that. Actually, that task mostly fell to myself; Zurg does not fare well with the sight of blood. After that particular messy deed was finished, I returned inside to place the spoils of our hunt in the refrigerator, and then finally headed upstairs to get that shower."

Hmm, that was indeed a very lovely shower, though he could have done without what happened after it was over. "The shower was wonderful, though I wish I had been more careful with toweling off . . . even something lightly brushing against one of these horns for a moment can be quite unpleasant."

They didn't need to know about the moment afterward where he triggered it intentionally.

As her charges listened to Lawrence's tale and subsequent return home, Impa's soft smile warmed a bit at their reposes to everything. The fact that both the butler and monarch had been able to warm up even before having proper showers was certainly a nice one, and the Sheikah was rather intrigued over that aspect of the aliens' physiology. Being able to withstand the cold well was one thing, but recovering from it sounded especially handy.

"I can imagine that was rather nice," mused Impa, nodding to Lawrence. "We all have good cold and heat tolerances ourselves, as is the way of our own biology, but I'm sure it's nothing like what X'rghthu have with respect to the former. Being able to recover quickly is undoubtedly very useful here."

As the butler detailed dressing the beast they'd brought home, Impa was shortly reminded of her own times preparing what she had got on hunts, both back in Hyrule as well as in this world. She was not surprised that between his own nature as well as the trials he was undergoing, that Lawrence had done the bulk of the work. It was however rather amusing to confirm how Zurg handled seeing blood… it made sense, but the Sheikah could not help but sympathize with the monarch. "Hopefully the strange beast was not too different from the way you might dress more typical fare."

Whilst she was again pleased to hear that Lawrence's first shower was most excellent, Impa did not react outwardly to the subtle mention of what a gentle brush against one of his horns meant. The important thing was that he had enjoyed the chance of the shower, even if other aspects of this transformation wound up being new experiences all on their own. He had hoped to learn more about Zurg's kind though, and this was certainly a profound way to do just that.

Link’s eyebrows raised a little in wonder in learning a little about X’rgthu biology. Warming up a bit faster than others? Like Impa said, Hylians had a pretty good heat tolerance and Sheikah even more, but he didn’t imagine it was anything like warming up faster. It almost made the boy want to outstretch his hands and put it on Lawrence’s arm again, just for a reminder of how warm he was to touch.

The story progressed onto Lawrence and Zurg dressing the kill and Link’s eyes widened slightly. So they DID bring the kill back with them. The image of two X’grthus (well, maybe mostly one) hacking and slicing at a large dead unfamiliar beast though was pretty amazing. He had seen how messy it was to dress normal game, but an unknown creature must be a whole different level. He wasn’t even sure if he would know where to start with a beast like that. Seafood was where his confidence would lie. Give him a basket of fish and he could have them all cleaned out faster than you can believe possible, with nary a thought of a knife slipping or of accidental cuts, but everything else still had him hesitating and cautious.

“You’ll have to let us know how you cooked it and what it tastes like,” he wrote before his brows furrowed in sympathy and he looked up to their friend’s horns. He knew the horns were sensitive, but he didn’t realise they were THAT sensitive. Could the towel rubbing directly against the horns be too loud? Was it painful to touch? Link gave the horns a perplexed look, like he was trying to find some way to solve a puzzle. If they were sensitive, he would have advised covering them with something to protect them from harm, but how could they be protected if they were even sensitive to fabric against them.

“Would wearing a helmet help then?” Granted, it would have to a a pretty big helmet in order to accommodate the horns and also give it enough room so that it didn’t touch them either.

Remembering something Lawrence had mentioned earlier, Ciela piped in as well. “You said Zurg applied some wax on it before, could it be because the shower washed away the wax and so they’re sensitive and painful to touch? If so, I suppose you applied it back on afterwards. I’m sure that since Lawrence is out and about like this now, it meant the wax is enough protection, Link.”
