Tetra had been very pleased to learn that it was not only their own world where seafarers navigated by the stars, sun and moon, but to have Mitchell confirm it again made the captain break out in a slow grin. To learn that even somewhere as advanced in technology as this 'Earth' also relied on this method of navigation brought a sense of comfort and pride as it meant the Great Sea was at the very least not lagging behind in this aspect.

"I've seen a few charts from your world (I think)," said Tetra. "Though it was an atlas, and the maps were rather zoomed out so I couldn't realistically visualise sailing in it." Just wait until she got her hands on a chart that showed coastal areas in a larger scale; she would have all the fun plotting sea routes. Forget crosswords and word-search puzzle, hand her a sea-chart any day. Perhaps she should ask for a some books of them for this Christmas thing she kept being told about...

The girl finally dropped her carving tools back on the table, satisfied with her cleaned out pumpkin. Wiping her hands on one of the clothes provided, she then reached for the pen and paper from earlier to start finalising the details of her carving design.

Then Tetra's ears perked up. Valentine's Day. That was that something celebration in spring for loved ones, right? She knew the staff at the inn might decorate the building to suit the occasions, just like they did with Halloween. But Valentine's Day?

"What exactly do you do on Valentine's Day? I heard something about chocolate so isn't it a bit like Halloween and trick or treating then?"

It was difficult to imagine the Link from her own time running around putting up hearts everywhere and overflowing the place with decorations of love.

Mitchell turned to look at Link as he wrote on his digiglass, detailing how the moon had an important role in one of his own quests. A ghost ship? That was definitely interesting to hear. Wonder if it was intangible and invisible like a ghost? Definitely some type of invisible, because Link wrote that it could only be seen depending on the phase of the moon, and it's location would shift around as well! Mitchell let out a thoughtful "Hm!" before he spoke up. "So did a specific phase of the moon make it easiest to find and board the ship for your item? Like perhaps the full moon?" Had to be pretty interesting, tracking down a ship with the light of the moon! "What was locked away in there, may I ask?" Had to be something very important!

Mitchell turned his head to face Sheik as he elaborated as well. He stated that though the lighting of the moon may be important, such as for Link's own adventure, it was mostly the actual position that was important. Sheik brought up that the moon had its effect on the ocean and lakes, turning the tide and triggering it. That was...interesting. That the moon in their world affected more than just the ocean! Though he was still a little confused. He gave Sheik a small smile. "Mind giving me an example of what one of these 'events' would be?" He was so used to the moon affecting the tides directly, to think it affected events like that seemed new to him.

Tetra spoke up, saying that she may have seen some of the sea-faring charts of old inside an atlas. However, the way it was made, made it hard for the young girl to imagine saying in the areas dictated by the charts. Mitchell paused in his carving to tap his chin. "I bet the library may have some old maps and charts. They weren't always the most accurate, but they were pretty fun, not to mention artistic." The little sea monster lurking in the ocean weren't real in any sense of the word, but it was still interesting to see what old sailors invented up. Such creativity!

The other Link spoke up and said that they had used some red wax paper for Valentine's Day. "Oh, how nice!" He grinned. "That had to be pretty." Neri offered to check for more wax paper as well. "Alright, thank you!" He gave her a little nod before looking back to the rest of them. "If there's only red, that can work too. It'd be a nice effect." Tetra was unfamiliar with Valentine's Day and Mitchell chuckled at her interpretation. He imagined people walking to other's houses, asking for chocolate, flowers, and all sorts of heart paraphernalia from strangers. Perhaps even while dressed as Cupid. "Actually, no. Valentine's Day usually consists of people given chocolates and gifts to their loved ones, either platonic or romantic. It can also involve couples going out on specific and special dates. Going out to eat somewhere special, or doing a wide romantic gesture...some even like to propose marriage on Valentine's Day. Personally, I find that to be tacky." He shrugged.

It might not have been his favorite part of the tale of the older Link's first quest, but the Hero of Time always enjoyed hearing about the ghost ship. Sure, it was a little eerie, but compared to some of the other enemies that both of them had encountered, it was relatively tame. The nature of the ghost ship itself was far more eerie than the appearance of it once his friend had boarded it, and even though Link liked the stories of it, he did still get an involuntary shudder down his spine whenever it was brought up.

As the ghost ship's treasure and events tied to phases of the moon were discussed, Link soon found himself grinning at Mitchell's mention of old maps and charts at the library. He'd certainly looked over some from different times of Hyrule there, but he hadn't really though to look at any from Earth's past. That was an intriguing idea, and he had a feeling that some of those might be brought up the next time any of that world's geography came up on a trip to the library. "It probably does! We've found some maps from our world there, even some just like the ones that were on us when we arrived here." As far as the sea monsters depicted on some of those charts went, they weren't exactly real in Hyrule or the Great Sea, but they did have some similar counterparts.

"It was," noted Link, smiling back to Mitchell at his assessment of their previous decorations. "We try not to put too much stuff out for Valentine's Day, but we do have fun with some simple decorations." Speaking of that holiday, Link soon blinked at Tetra's question regarding it. There certainly was chocolate for Valentine's Day, but save the fact that it was a holiday, it really wasn't that similar to Halloween. Between the pirate captain's question and Mitchell's own explanation, Link couldn't help but exchange an amused expression and playful grin with Link and Sheik. Their first Valentine's Day together had certainly been a fun one, and they too had learned the early clarification that the holiday was just as much about platonic love as it was romantic.

As he worked on his carving, Link found himself especially grateful for Mitchell's answer regarding the holiday. He, Link, and Sheik had long since figured out similar answers by now, but it was even better to have their friend describe it since he was actually from Earth! Still, the mention of couples going out on dates and the like was enough to cause the Hero of Time to feel the slightest bit of warmth in his cheeks. No, there was nothing unusual about that… and it certainly wasn't the focus of the day. Valentine's Day was as much about that as it was about enjoying time with ones' friends and family. He knew that very well and this just reaffirmed it!

What was hidden on the ghost ship?

“A piece of treasure, which, when you unite it with all the other pieces becomes something which could grant you great power.” Whilst they were in a different world now, Link was always a little puzzled as to whether he should talk about the Triforce openly. There was always a chance that some unsavoury character might learn of the power they wield and come looking for trouble. Had they been in the privacy of their own rooms, the innkeeper might had been more free about explaining about the Triforce to their friend… though how he would tackle such a subject in private without sounding like he was boasting or fishing for awe and compliments was another thought altogether.

The mention of Valentine’s made Link turn to Sheik and the younger Link. He shared with them an amused grin. Judging by their responses, he guessed they too were thinking about their first time they learnt of and experienced Valentine’s day. That had been an awkward and confusing morning for the older Link and his fairies. They had spent it worrying and awkwardly wondering if they had wished their friends a Happy Valentine’s Day when they were mistakenly led to believe that it was for lovers only.

“Aww, really?” Leaf asked when he heard Mitchell found it tacky to propose on Valentine's. “I think it’s very romantic myself, but then again I do watch a lot of T.V. so maybe I had been converted to liking the idea. There is nothing quite as heart-warming as the characters agonizing over the occasion before getting together at the end.”

After he finished smoothing out the finer details of his pumpkin carving, Link once again leant back to examine it, his mind flickering between signing it off as complete or working on it a bit more even though he couldn’t actually find anything else he needed to work on. After a while of staring, he finally made up his mind and decided that the carving looked satisfactory. He placed his tools down, wiped his hands clean and reached for a small candle before inserting it into the hollow pumpkin.

“Eh,” he sounded, poking at Leaf the red fairy with a fingertip. Leaf took one glance at the candle inside, nodded, then swooped in to quickly light it with magic. The innkeeper could have waited to light the lantern with the others, but figured that if he did it now, he could notice if there were anything he might have missed and could then fix right now instead of later. He put the lid back on the pumpkin then turned it round for the rest of the table to check if everything was fine with it. Hmm, was Link being overly critical over his work or did the triangle for the nose looks a little big?

Sheik might have heard the story of Link's encounters with the ghost ship before, but she always loved hearing it. In addition to that, she had to admit that she rather liked the way that Link answered the question regarding just what was on it. Although the existence of the Triforce was not something that was necessarily always a secret even in this different world, the Hyruleans still liked to be careful when discussing it. At the very least, it was more of a secret than it was back in Hyrule, but it did help that here, the only Triforces were those of Courage both held by the two Links and those of Wisdom, which each Zelda possessed. Those pieces of power were a little easier to protect when they were already claimed, after all.

At Mitchell's question regarding events affected by phases of the moon, Sheik hummed for a moment before stating, "Well, certain items might only be sold during certain phases of the moon, in part because they are more rare and this way sellers can manage their business even better. That's more of a personal choice for most shops, but some seem tied to it in what's available. Aside from that, certain enemies might only appearing during it, as part of their natural behavior, and there might even some shifts to the world itself. The position and light itself can trigger some things like that, such as gates being revealed or magical doors being opened." Hopefully that all made sense! She supposed that it was a little confusing to think about, but once the connection of the moon was factored in to what was happening on the earth itself, it was not nearly as strange as it appeared to be at first.

Nodding as Link noted that the library had some old maps and charts from Hyrule, Sheik soon wound up smiling a bit at her descendant's question about it, just before she shared an amused look with Link and Link. Although the Hyruleans had since become very well versed with the late winter holiday, they did not know quite as much about it as Mitchell did, and the disguised princess alone was grateful that their friend was set to explain just what the holiday was about. As she returned her attention to outlining her carving, she did smile a touch more at the notion of couples going out on special dates or at least doing something special. Such activities weren't something she was actively pining for anytime soon, but she did quite like the idea of special things such as those, whether it was for a specific holiday or just a random occasion.

"I really like that it's about platonic love as well as romantic," noted Sheik. "It's nice being able to show even more how you care about your friends." Granted, they didn't need a holiday for that, but it was still nice.

By the time that the disguised princess had finished drawing the design on her pumpkin, the older Link had finished his carving and even had Leaf light up the candle inside. A moment later, he'd turned it around for them all to see, and Sheik broke into a wide grin. "That looks great, Link! You got the face perfect for it!"

Hm, she had not been to the library yet. No, wait, that was a lie. She had been to the library, but she hadn’t actually been in the library more than a passing visit when she tagged along with Impa to return some books. She took a peek at one or two books she grabbed off the shelf, but she had yet to actually look and use the place properly yet. Instead, she had been raiding Impa and Sheik’s stash of books like somebody who had not seen the written word for years. “I’d have to make a trip there properly one day.”

Tetra blinked at the explanation of Valentine’s Day. So… you only got gifts to and from the people you care about? Hum, well that certainly sounded like it was a lot less profitable than Halloween where you got things from every door you knock on. “Then, isn’t that just like this Christmas thing that is to come up after Halloween? You got gifts to and from loved ones on that holiday as well, so what differentiate Valentine’s from Christmas - apart from this supposed jolly old man who climbs down chimneys during Christmas? Not that I am complaining about getting more gifts through the year, but the two occasions just seem a bit too similar to me.”

She was sure that the couple activities during Valentine’s could equally be performed during Christmas as well? But wait, following that logic, did it mean that in the (currently) far-fetched idea that she might find somebody she like here in this world, she would have to think up grand romantic gestures twice a year instead of one? That was a headache waiting to happen, especially when Tetra found most ‘romantic’ ideas fairly UNromantic and some were downright more effort than they were worth. She disliked fussing over others just about as much as she hated people fussing over her.

The girl watched as Link seemed to be happy with his work and soon had it lit and turned around for them to see. Huh, she had to admit. She may have thought this activity bizarre at the start, but once it was carved and lit, the pumpkin did look pretty neat. “Nice,” she said simply.

So, locked away on this ghost ship was...a piece of treasure. Fitting, really. Though this wasn't pirate treasure, instead it was a piece of treasure that could unite with other pieces, combining to create something that could grant great power onto whoever found all of the pieces. Both of Mitchell's dark eyebrows raised, quite intrigued. "Wooow..." There were a lot of questions buzzing in his mind, who put that treasure in the ghost ship? Were the other pieces on other ghost ships? What kind of power did it grant? Had they ever found those pieces for themselves? Had they been granted to great power? There were so many questions, with so many possible answers...if he asked them all, they'd be here all day. He didn't want to make them feel interrogated or anything, after all, so in the end he asked none of his questions. "That sounds very impressive, both as a quest and as an object. Earth was pretty...normal, so I don't think there was ever any sort of...'find the pieces and unite them to receive power' kind of event back home. At least, none that were public." You never knew when it came to the Conspiracy Theorists...aliens were real, after all!

His attention was diverted to Sheik as he explained more about how the phases of the moon would have an impact. Apparently, some merchants could decide to sell specific items due to the phase of the moon. "That's an...interesting way to merchandise and run a business." He chuckled. Though with a bit more thought, he suppose it made sense. If items were rarer, you could sell things depending on the phase of the moon to spread out when you sold it, while also having a schedule that customers could abide by and know when they could buy what they wanted. Kinda smart, in a very...outside of the box way. Certain enemies appeared, depending on the phase of the moon, which also made sense. Like werewolves, right? And even the world itself could be changed. The light and position of the moonlight could apparently set off things like gates and doors, typically linked to magic somehow. "I see...I never would have thought that the moon could affect all of those things. Magic can be so...strange, yet interesting. It makes more sense now, though!"

The suggestion to go to the library was well-received, with the other Link even commenting that they had found maps from their own world in there. "That place really does have everything, doesn't it?" Right down to maps that they even had on themselves, though that begged the question of, was everything in the library a copy of existing materials, or were they the 'Real McCoy', so to speak? It was possible that multiple iterations of their maps existed, after all. Tetra also seemed interested in going to the library. As for Valentine's, that seemed to be where their discussion really began to roll along! Looking back to Link, Mitchell gave him a slight grin. "Oh, you can never have too many decorations! The more, the merrier." Make it rain glitter, if you really wanted it to! The young man gave Link, Link and Sheik a slightly curious glance as the three looked among each other and grinned, as if thinking of an inside joke. Perhaps it was private. He nodded back to Sheik with a soft grin. "Oh yes, and I like that family is included too. Parents will sometimes give their children gifts and chocolates, sometimes even a little stuffed animal." Sometimes, the children in Megamind's class would bring their gift to school and show it off to each other, and brag. Being raised in a prison, Megamind didn't really get much in the way of gifts from the inmates, though they tried. One time, they managed to get the prisoner who was good at sneaking in goods to sneak in a cupcake with all the trimmings. Red velvet with cream cheese frosting and filling, with pink sprinkles. "It's nice to show how much you care about family, too."

Leaf's reaction to Mitchell's dismissal of Valentine's proposals was a little amusing, though he gave the fairy an apologetic grin. "I suppose it could be romantic if someone puts an original spin on it. Maybe it's just because I've never really been one for relationships..." It was a little hard to think about romance when you were an alien fish, after all...other aliens obviously managed to work something out, but they all had four limbs, were upright, and were comparable to humans and most other sentient creatures. Minion, in his real form, with no hologram or robot suit...could fit in one's arms. Yeeeah... "And probably because you do see it so much on T.V., it becomes kinda...expected. When you see something done over and over again, it becomes a little less special. And something like that should be very special. Really, I think a proposal shouldn't be done on any day with any sort of significance as a rule of thumb. Because it makes it less special, it just becomes 'Valentines and also that time Jim popped the question'." He rolled a hand as he put on a falsetto tone, one that he quickly realized with some embarrassment as his 'space step-mom' voice. He let out a small, sheepish chuckle "Hehehe...but if you find it romantic, that is quite fine Mr. Leaf!" Different strokes for different folks. Tetra, meanwhile, was pretty confused about why exactly there were so many holidays that were so similar. "I suppose the difference really lies in how the holidays are advertised and told. Christmas is about being together with family, and being selfless, showing people you appreciate them with a gift. And of course, there's Santa, who is typically used to make kids behave. Valentine's day, the focus is typically romantic love, though as mentioned, platonic love and familiar love can be expressed too. There's also some story about a Saint named Valentine, really it get kinda muddy on how the holiday even came to be...in the end, both of them are similar in being an excuse to show love and give gifts on a specific day, but the traditions and types of gifts are different." Link had finished his pumpkin, and using Leaf as a candle, he turned the Jack O'Lantern around to show it to the rest of them. "It looks lovely, Link. I really like the mouth. The teeth look very balanced and even."

Link nodded as Mitchell noted that Earth was relatively normal, although he couldn't help but chuckle a little about the idea of there not being any sorts of quests or power gains such as the ones that he and his friends had gone on or obtained. "Normal or not, it still sounds like a pretty cool world. From what you and others have told us, there was definitely a lot there." It might not have been mythical in the same way that Hyrule was, but some of the media and technology that came from the world were amazing to the young hero. He had only been more intrigued by such things when he'd seen them on the Breach and later learned that some of those things were similar to this on Earth or had even originated there.

As Sheik explained some of the additional effects that the moon could have on the world, Link grinned at the way Mitchell was intrigued by it all, but more than anything, he was glad that magic was making more sense to their friend now. Truth be told, even though he had some innate magical power of his own and the ability to learn other magic-based skills, the concept of magic itself was still amazing to Link when he really thought about it. From being able to have magic power unleashed in a spin attack to magic arrows, from playing magical songs to casting more complex spells, it was as familiar to him as it was fascinating.

Nodding in agreement with Mitchell regarding the library, Link soon met his slight grin with one of his own. At the idea of having as many decorations as one wanted, the Hero of Time simply laughed before stating, "Ha-ha, I guess you're right! We don't want to overdo it, but maybe we can put out a few more this coming Valentine's Day!" And who knew? Since Mitchell seemed to enjoy making decorations so much, maybe he would like to help them out with those when the time came!

Smiling a bit more at the mention of showing your family how much you cared about them, Link continued to carefully carve out and remove the pieces from his Gibdo face on his pumpkin. Although the Hero of Time did not watch nearly as much TV as Leaf did, Mitchell's explanation made plenty of sense… even if the higher-pitched tone his voice took on was enough to cause Link to blink. As Mitchell recovered and chuckled though, the boy simply gave him a reassuring smile and nod as he resumed his pumpkin carving.

Once again, Link was glad to have an actual Earth native help explain the subtle difference between Christmas and Valentine's Day. On the surface, the two holidays were pretty similar, but they appeared to have different origins all together. Regardless, like Halloween, they were both fun holidays, and Link was all to happy to have adopted each of them… especially Halloween and Christmas!

As Link finished the last few touches on his own jack-o'-lantern, he perked up once the older boy had  turned his around, lit up and ready for all of them to see. Wow, that looked awesome! "Great job, Link!" exclaimed Link with a thumbs up, just before he turned his own completed pumpkin around, just as Tatl chimed. "How do you like this?"

Link found the likelihood of Mitchell’s Earth not having powerful mythical treasure pieces rather unlikely. That would be entirely Portal Breach’s fault, of course. This world which supposedly carried many similarities to Earth was chocked full with curious things so Mitchell’s world must be the same too to some extent. Besides, there were various people in the Breach which came from Earth or some alternate version of it and they are all walking proof that Earth can indeed hold many secrets.

The innkeeper blinked and hummed a little thought as Tetra brought up a good question. Indeed, some of the holidays in this world were definitely rather similar, but as Mitchell explained, they are similar but not the same. Valentine was about expressing your love for your loved ones and Christmas was about being with your family and friends. There was also Easter, Halloween, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day as well and a few others that Link cannot recall presently. He shrugged, to him, these holidays were a good thing. Surely nobody could say no to having an excuse to be around their loved ones more, especially when gifts and food are part of the celebrations. It did make the boy wonder though that in the event that he found somebody he wanted to share Valentine’s with romantically, what would he do? Stay and celebrate with his family, or venture out on a special date with his romantic partner? He could just about imagine Leaf bombarding him with not very useful information on what to do on these date things.

Speaking of Leaf, “I’ve seen it happen a few times on T.V. already but I must say I am not tired of it at all yet.”

At which, Ciela cannot help but quip, “This is T.V. we’re talking about. You’ll never get tired of T.V. nor any of its contents. The same way you don’t get ever get tired of setting things on fire.”

“True enough,” agreed the red fairy before he puffed a little in pride at being addressed as MR. Leaf. The fairy was not the only one to puff a little in pride. Link too felt his shoulders straighten a little as the others complimented his work. He turned the pumpkin back around to face him, eyeing the teeth curiously. Well, they were pretty balanced and even as Mitchell said. Ah, he should pat himself on the back for a job well done.

No, rather, he should pat the other Link on the back for a job even more well done. The other boy’s pumpkin turned out perfect! “That looks great!” he wrote alongside giving his own thumbs up.

At the same time, a fairy darted down the stairs with a plastic bag rustling beneath her as she flew. "I found the red wax paper!" she chimed cheerily as she slowed to a halt above their table. The fairy slowly descended so that the bag of craft paper lowered smoothly onto the table. "See if these work? Would they stick to the inside of the pumpkin? I brought some drawing pins to pin them on the inside just in case."

Starting to carve out the lines of the design she'd drawn on her pumpkin, Sheik could not help but grin a bit to herself at catching Mitchell's intrigued reaction to Link's story. It was a fascinating one even for someone who was used to the magic and mysteries that the world of Hyrule held in any time, and even though Link could not give all of the details for the treasure that the ghost ship hid she was glad that their friend found it interesting all the same. Nodding in full agreement with Link's sentiment of Earth being neat in its own way, Sheik added, "I'm sure that Earth had plenty of its own mysteries whether a lot of people knew about them or not." What all they might have been, she couldn't say, but the disguised princess was sure that no world had had all of its secrets completely discovered.

Mitchell seemed to find the effects that the moon had on some businesses intriguing, and it appeared that her explanation about lunar effects made sense to him. Smiling a bit more, Sheik stated, "It can be strange, but when you can step back and see the general base behind it, it tends to become interesting instead. It can be tricky to explain, but grasping it is usually a lot easier."

From the library, to decorations, to different holidays, those were each things that the disguised princess liked about this world. Being able to honor the holidays she grew up with and adopt more made the year even more special in its own ways, and even as Mitchell gave the "three" boys a curious glance over one memory they'd shared during a particular holiday, Sheik simply gave him a reassuring smile. Nodding along with his sentiment about being able to show familial love on the holiday, she noted, "I agree. Even if you're not related to someone by blood, they can still be your family. So long as they're special to you, that's what matters the most."

As Sheik continued to carefully carve the major outline of her Jack-o'-lantern, she listened to Mitchell's explanation that detailed the differences between Christmas and Valentine's Day. The two holidays did have a decent number of similarities as far as showing loved ones you appreciated them went, but their origins and surrounding traditions seemed to be the biggest variances. Hearing it described by someone who was actually from Earth only added to what they themselves had been able to figure out about these holidays, and Sheik hoped that Tetra would find this answer helpful.

Shortly after Link had shown off his Jack-o'-lantern and Neri had returned with the wax paper, the younger Link had finished his as well, turning it around for all to see. Grinning at the unmistakeable face of the Gibdo he had carved, the disguised princess exclaimed, "Very nice! If it was any more realistic we'd all be paralyzed right now!"

How the holidays were marketed? “Hm, that did make sense.”

As somebody who was well aware and greatly appreciated the thought of making more money, Tetra could understand the concept of the more holidays the better. They could be similar holidays at the core, but add in a clever twist like ‘being with family’ and ‘showing love’ and they were set for another season of money rolling in. If she was into the retail business, she be rubbing her hands with glee at the prospect of these holidays. Thankfully, she was not interested in that business at all, so she supposed Portal Breach was saved from the idea of what could possibly be one very, very bossy shopkeeper who may or may not be the definition of ludicrous pricing schemes.

With great timing, after the first Link revealed his finished pumpkin, the younger one turned his around too. Now that was certainly something a bit more spooky-looking. Perfectly suited for Halloween. “I agree with Link. That looks great. I can tell you had definitely done this before.”

Now the girl looked doubtfully at her own squash. Despite it being her first timing carving a pumpkin and was therefore probably exempted some any high expectations, her own pride wasn’t going to settle for anything less than two steps below perfection.

“Right, let’s get this going then,” she said. “Neri, great, you’re back. Help me prop this page up.” She handed the blue fairy the page she had drawn her carving design on, uncapped a marker and started to carefully draw her design onto the pumpkin.

Link and Sheik both found Earth to still be unique, even without the amazing quests and fun adventures. Though the idea of not going on quests to achieve things seemed to tickle Link a bit, as he had chuckled. Mitchell smiled back at them and nodded. "Oh yes, there were always new things to see, or do. So much technology to tweak and look at, and that's not even touching the television or the internet." Such things were rather amazing. Mitchell looked to Sheik, and his smile got a little crooked as he agreed. "Oh yes. Especially if some of the conspiracy theorists are to be believed, but there were definitely aliens in our universe. Earth has just never reached them. And who knows? Maybe we had supernatural things too." He certainly never met them, but maybe they just hid themselves very well.

The holographic form nodded in agreement with Sheik. "Some of the more intricate kind of technology is the same way. Strange at first, and then when you dig deep and figure out how it all works...clarity." And as for Link's assertion that they could put out even more decorations this year, Mitchell nodded. "We could cut out paper hearts from construction paper, and then laminate it. I bet the library would have a lamination machine..." Then, they could have to fiddle with tacks. All they'd need is that gummy looking sticky stuff. Sheik agreed that one didn't need to be related by blood to be family, and Mitchell nodded in agreement again, though this time it was a slightly stiffer nod. While Megamind had at least seen his parents, however briefly, before they were sent from the planet, Minion never had that luxury. Not even Potter's magic could conjure up memories that just weren't there. The first thing he remembered was being handed to Megamind and hearing a voice say that Minion would take care of Megamind. He had taken those words to heart, Megamind had been his only family for so long even though they didn't share blood. And yet...after finding Megamind in those bushes, with no memory of the past several months on the Breach...taking care of Megamind had changed. He was no longer a companion. He was a nanny. An unpaid nanny with too much responsibility. Taking care of a couple of adults who seemed useless without him. At some point, things had turned toxic and he had needed to leave the situation. Get away from whoever those people were who dared to pretend to be Megamind and Roxanne. There was no sign of the real ones, and the fake ones had left long ago. He had no family, blood related or otherwise.

Mitchell frowned to himself as he turned his attention to his pumpkin, cutting away at a few more pieces and still listening. Leaf was apparently well known by his fellow fairies for liking television, and all the cliches that came with it. It made him smile a bit, and he smiled a bit more when Tetra seemed more understanding of the holidays after his explanation. The other Link revealed his pumpkin as well, a clever little mummy design in the pumpkin skin. "I like the bandages, Link. It looks absolutely splendid!" The others were in agreement, and soon Neri returned with red wax paper. "Drawing pins, that's a good idea. With the thick rind pumkins have, those pins ought to stick the paper to it securely."

Link was pleased to hear even further confirmation of new and fun things to see on Earth. He had learned of the wonders of television and the internet in addition to those once he had arrived on the Breach, and although he did not use either as much as others might, he did enjoy and appreciate the two. Leaf was unabashedly the biggest fan of television in their family, and even though the rest of them did not sit down to watch it nearly as much as he did, they did enjoy the occasional show or film. As far as the internet went, that had become incredibly helpful for finding out information in addition to what their own books afforded them, especially with things relevant to this world.

Along with technology came aliens, and thus also came Mitchell's assurance that aliens did exist in his version of Earth's universe. The mention of them in such a way reminded him of the aliens that he'd helped Romani fend off back in Termina, but even with as creepy as those cow thieves were, he had been glad to meet a bunch of really nice aliens here, like Kev and Zurg. It was a curious thought as to just what kinds of aliens happened to live in Mitchell's world, but the Hero of Time was sure that some of their species might have already come here by way of other times and worlds.

"That's a great idea!" Link exclaimed at Mitchell's suggestion of laminating any of the hearts they might make for Valentine's Day. Lamination had been another fascinating type of technology he had discovered here, and if its durability-enhancing properties could be applied to some of their crafty decorations, that could make them last even longer!  "Then we might be able to use and reuse them, and maybe even write different things on them each year."

"Efficiency is always a good thing," chimed Tatl, smirking a bit to herself as she thought of what all the kids might wind up making once they had more laminated things at their disposal. No matter how the decorations for future holidays might pan out, one thing was certain: the jack-o'-lanterns they were carving were really going to make the inn feel festive. Link grinned and chuckled a little at the compliments from his friends, soon stating, "Thanks! I thought that a Gibdo might be a perfect monster to show off this year… especially since they're really similar to mummies." With such a recognizable monster, he was sure that it would really fit in with the theme of the holiday. And now more than ever, he couldn't wait to see all of their carved pumpkins together!

What would the kids end up making indeed if they had more laminated things to play with. Link was more interested on what they could potentially write onto the laminated hearts. Apart from the usual Valentine greetings, he wasn’t sure what you need to write, erase and rewrite again the next year. Unless they hold some sort of activity at the inn where every tenant gets a heart to write on? What would they write on it? Something or somebody they love? What would HE write on it? Maybe ‘Family’. Leaf would write something stupid like ‘TV’ on his heart. Neri would write ‘Everybody’ and who knew what Ciela would write.

Speaking of the fairies, Neri puffed a little, delighted that her idea of drawing pins were well received and also a little shy that at the compliment of it being a good idea. She handed Mitchell a bit of paper before she went off to help tetra hold up hers. “And here is the list of scented ones we have in stock. I just glance at the labels and didn’t count them but there are about two or three of each. If there are any you think you might like, please take them. Link is hardly going to use them all. The inn would be a mish mash of scents every day if he did use them all by himself.”

    Candle List:
    Apple Cider
    Clean Cotton
    Eucalyptus
    Honeydew Melon
    Gingerbread
    Sea Breeze
    Lavender
    Wild Sea Grass
    Winter Wood
    Forest Pine
    Cherry Blossom
    Ylang Ylang
    Garden Sweet Pea

Huh, maybe it was indeed a lot more than Link and Leaf thought there was. Was that really all the different kinds they have and that was not even counting them? Maybe they really should stop buying the scented ones for a while after all.

Speaking of candles, once he was sure his own pumpkin design was fine, Link picked up the lid of the squash, leant over and blew out the lit candle. They may have lots of candles lurking around the inn, but it was not a good enough reason to waste this one by burning it unnecessarily.

From what Sheik had gathered from Mitchell as well as various others from Earth, not to mention anything she had seen on the Breach itself, that world did have quite a lot of new, fascinating things to see and do. She had been grateful to experience some comparable activities, foods, holidays, and of course technology here, but even with as neat as it all was, nothing could replace the special place that Hyrule held in her heart. As far as Earth's own alien presence and supernatural beings went, Sheink nodded to Mitchell, noting, "It's entirely possible. That's part of why it's so fun to explore and go on adventures; you never know who or what you might find."

Adventuring was not an intrinsically Hyrulean trait, but the quintet here at the inn certainly had it in their blood. They were always up for a new quest or adventure, and thankfully, this world had helped provide those for them. Some were far less welcome events than others, such as the Phazon Crisis and The Castle That Never Was, but the experiences gained from them were still special.

Pleased to hear Mitchell's agreement with the comparison between technology and magic, the disguised princess was also happy to see that he liked her assessment about familial ties not necessarily being determined by blood. However, whilst she was glad that her words apparently rang true for their friend, she did not fail to notice that his second nod was somewhat stiffer. Perhaps Mitchell had had some past experiences with family – blood or otherwise – that helped him realize that simple truth… he seemed to be lost in thought shortly after that, but even so, he was still set to smile to their exchanges here. Whether something had struck a chord with him or not, she hoped he would be okay.

Unable to suppress a soft chuckle as Tetra called on Neri's assistance with propping up her own design for her pumpkin, Sheik soon nodded to Link as he mused over part of why he had chosen his particular design. "It's a great monster; and plenty of people will recognize it as a mummy, and that's not too far off." Moving to cut and remove another section of her own jack-o'-lantern, Sheik could see her design coming along swimmingly. She hoped it would look as good as her original design by the time she was finished; until then, she just had to make sure everything was cut smoothly.
