    Keyless

A filthy truck drove up the roads of the city, leaving dirt and dust around wherever it was. The trail of filth led to the inn, where it stopped and once the door slammed shut, a large amount of sand and dirt fell onto the ground. Randall turned and looked dazed at it, then shook his head and wandered near the entrance. Yep, it was still him; the tired look, the whistle around his neck, this was definitely the same guy. Hence why he was back at the inn, wanting to ask the bobble-headed Link for a key, as he had lost his own during... well, it just became lost.

"Oh good, this place hasn't been blown up yet." Entering the facility, the monster was, just like before, half asleep. But not enough to fall asleep on the floor or at the counter, mind you. No, he wouldn't be doing any of that...

Leaning against the counter, Randall cupped his head in one of his hands as he waited to see the innkeeper, or anyone else to come around and give service. Hopefully no one took his room while he was gone...

    "Hey kid... need a key."

Shortly after lunch found Link actually outside of his office and in the lobby, neatly stacking wooden logs in its metal basket from the box it arrived in and filling up the coal bucket on the other side. It was a job he could easily had left for any of the inn’s housekeeping staff but sometimes, he liked to take a break from his usual duties and help out here and there. It was probably a bit early for the fireplace to be so well stocked but it was better to have these things at hand if the weather took a sudden downturn. Not to mention the additional bonus of a well stocked fireplace gives the lobby an even more homey feel.

When the bell atop the front door rang from somebody coming in, Link looked up, raising an eyebrow at seeing a familiar monster stepping into the reception area. Randall? He haven’t seen him around in quite a while now. Aa! And he’s stopping at the desk?

With a hum, the innkeeper dropped the tongs he was using to pile up the wood, dust his hands off and approached the giant lizard.

“Randall? A key? Did you lose your one?” he wrote on his digiglass.

Randall turned to look at Link, who approached from elsewhere. Still as big-headed and cat-eyed as ever, which there was nothing wrong with that. Looking down and reading what Link had wrote, Randall shifted his eyes back and forth quickly as if about to dodge the question, rubbing the back of his neck as he cleared his throat and began speaking.

"I did... I've been kind of having a 'personal experience' or whatever, got lost in the desert for a bit. Kind of like the people who wandered the desert for 40 years after complaining too much, but instead of 40 years, it was more like....." Randall paused and blinked, trying to recall how long it's been. "2 months? Maybe? I don't remember. Anyway."

Randall fidgeted a bit and then stood still, giving a dull look at the kid, "so yeah, sorry, I might have to get an extra key. Sorry for losing the other one."

Had Link known that Randall had such an opinion on him, he would had shuffled uncomfortably on the spot. He wasn’t really big-headed. He had met a good fair amount of big-headed people and would like to think he was more modest than to be labelled as with the same description as them.… okay so maybe he had boastful moments like when people awe at his letter sorting skills but that took time and effort to learn and he believed he had some right to be a bit proud of it. Otherwise, he like to think he’s not that arrogant… he would apologise if he came across as that!

Thankfully, the boy was saved of an uncomfortable situation by Randall being awkward himself. Personal experience... that spoke volumes the same time it didn’t. So Randall went… on a spiritual journey of self discovery? Well, he was a lizard being and they do live in the desert as we-- WAIT, maybe personal experience equals him going to the desert to find other lizards to find his family background! But he came here through portal and this wasn’t his world so he couldn’t find… you know what, toss this entire thought process overboard. Randall went on a trip to the desert for two months, got lost and is now unlost except for his cardkey which is still very lost and may be forever lost amongst the sands at this point and that’s all that he need to know.

Link nodded, made his way behind the desk and held up a finger for ‘one minute please’. The innkeeper popped into his office and two minutes later, emerged with a brand new cardkey configured for Randall’s room and afterhours front entrance access. With a smile, he added a message: “Don’t lose it again.”

Wow was Link off. Either way, it was appreciated that Link didn't appear angry at him for losing the card. In all honesty, Randall had little with him, and, along with said card, he only lost a few small things. But, for some reason, not the damn whistle that was still strung around his neck. Maybe it was the string of choice or just fate, but whatever the reason, he still had that whistle. Either way, Randall took the cardkey and let out a tired sigh, recalling the last time he was here getting a key, he fell asleep at the desk. That was embarrassing.

"Thanks, kid. Sorry about losing the other one. If I happen to head that way again and find it by some miracle, I'll see if it works and return this one." Looking the card over, Randall bit into it with a tooth, popping a small hole into it as he looped the string to add the extra item to it. A whistle and cardkey--at this rate, he'd certainly need to wear some clothes... at least for the access to pockets. "... Uh... Good to see you again..." he said awkwardly before shifting his gaze elsewhere, then suddenly disappearing quickly, a door opening and closing down the hall.

At least it still looked the same.
