"Yeah," replied Sheik, nodding to Tetra's question as she stood back up. "Like Hylians, Sheikah have really sharp hearing already… but by keeping my ears partially covered by the bandages sometimes, it helps me train my ears to hear even better. It's kind of like wearing weights on your limbs to build strength."

Once she had got resituated and had pulled her collar down for the time being, Sheik willed herself to remain still and try not to react too much outwardly once Tetra widened her eyes at the action. She knew there was just as much a chance that this might come as a surprise to the pirate captain as there was of her finding the disguised princess' features suspiciously familiar… but as it stood, getting her descendant to be able to more readily trust her was more important than keeping up a part of her disguise that she did not even keep on all the time. She might have primarily kept it down back in the safety of the inn, but the collar was but one aspect of her outfit that concealed her true identity. Just as Tetra was safe to be out and about as herself, Sheik knew that she was able to pull her collar down on occasion outside as well. After all, even though she was slowly nearing teenager-hood, Sheik was still young enough that she could just as easily pass for a girl or a boy… and that much stood regardless of her disguise.

If anything, the recent episode with her cursed form had proven that more than ever… and even more than that, it had been perfect evidence of just how convincing her disguise actually was.

As Tetra stepped forward, narrowing her gaze at her and humming to herself, Sheik straightened her posture slightly. She let her descendant study her better, and as she felt her blue eyes return their full focus to her face, right before she suddenly found that the older girl had reached up to push her bangs out of the way from where they usually fell over her left eye. The disguised princess blinked and widened her eyes slightly at this, but after the initial surprise, she quickly realized that given their shared curious nature, this was perfectly normal for Tetra. And hopefully, whether she caught the resemblance or not at being able to fully see both of her eyes, she would at least be able to tell that she could trust her. The best person to trust was yourself after all… or at the very least someone that shared your spirit.

"Ah… is… something wrong?" Sheik asked at catching Tetra's frown. She had a strong sense that the pirate captain was getting an odd feeling from studying her face, but even if she could not figure out exactly what she was feeling, the disguised princess did soon pick up on the silent trust that the older girl seemed to have developed towards her.

Keeping her position as Tetra pulled her hand back, letting her hair fall back into place, Sheik watched as the older girl turned to look back at the King of Red Lions one last time. Once she turned back to her and nodded, voicing her agreement to follow her, the disguised princess returned the nod, smiling softly as she motioned back up the path that she had first come from. A moment later, as the two began to walk, Sheik stated, "All right then… this way. And since it wouldn't be right of me to be your guide without telling you my name… I am Sheik."

"So how well can you hear right now compared to before?" asked Tetra as she filed hearing training away in her head for future use - maybe when the sailing times are too smooth and quiet, she could test it on Niko first.

The boy being surprised by her stepping forward and moving his hair out of the way was expected and Tetra had to suppressed a grin from forming on her lips.  If he was not surprise, that's another cause for worry but since he was, that made her feel in a bit more control.

"Nothing is wrong," she said, again looking the boy up and down. There was something about this Shee-kah boy that was rather curious. As far as Tetra could tell, he looked just like a Hylian except the clothes being an obvious difference from what the captain was used to. How exactly were they different? If you throw this boy amongst the folks in Windfall and dress him like them, he'll blend in perfectly - probably even more than Link!

"Nothing is wrong," she repeated. "Everything is perfect actually." It was hardly a lie. Everything did seem perfect. She was in some world she never been to before, unharmed, rescued, the boat is safe and now she was being led by a boy almost her age to a place where she could get information. Even her guide was a bit a puzzle to keep her interest throughout the walk.

The captain followed the bandaged kid who then introduced himself. Oh yes, she should do that too. But should she reveal her pirate identity? "Sheik? You're a Sheikah and you're called Sheik? I guess it's another traditional thing?" asked Tetra, stalling for time for herself to figure out a safe sailing plan. It wouldn't do to have the boy run away screaming 'Pirates'.

"I'm Tetra," she answered finally figuring that the name didn't stand out enough to be associated with her occupation. "So...what's different between a Sheikah and a Hylian? You look like me as far as I could tell."

"Quite a bit better, actually… my hearing was already really keen, but I'm able to focus even more now and pick up some sounds I might have not caught before," stated Sheik, catching the distinct interest behind Tetra's question. She was admittedly a bit curious if the pirate captain might attempt some of this herself in the future, but regardless, she was just glad that she no longer thought she was injured.

Continuing to remain still as the older girl studied her face, Sheik held her breath as Tetra said that nothing was wrong. She was able to hear the truth in her words even behind the pensive tone she had used… and even though she did not seem to notice the strong resemblance they both shared, she herself was very glad that she did not seem to think that anything was amiss. At her descendant's repetition of that line and her note that everything was perfect, the disguised princess let out her held breath in a silent sigh, inwardly very glad to hear Tetra say that out loud.

Once the two were set and began to head out of the heart of the park, the disguised princess nodded at Tetra's question regarding her alias. "It is, yeah," admitted Sheik, smiling a little sheepishly at the older girl. "I suppose the name is even more traditional than the outfit is… but I figure it's better to have an older, somewhat historic name than one that's become overly common."

As Tetra introduced herself, Sheik's smile broadened. She already knew who the pirate captain was of course, but to hear her actually give her name to her… that definitely made the disguised princess' heart beat a little faster in excitement. "That's a cool name… it's nice to meet you, Tetra."

Sheik did manage to keep her excitement from truly showing on the outside, but even so, she was glad for the distraction offered by the next question that Tetra posed. She was a little amused at the mention that she looked like her, although she knew that she likely only really meant the resemblance between the distinguishing features of the two species.

"There's not too much of a difference, actually… we still have the same pointed ears and ability to use magic, but the main difference is that Sheikah always have red eyes," explained Sheik, motioning to her own pair. They were technically blue of course, just like Tetra's, but the spell that she had got very used to casting made her eyes appear as though they really were and had always been red. "We're a race of warriors known as the Shadow Folk… and from that alliance I mentioned, we even became known as the Shadows of the Hylians."

Yes, now she really must get her pirates to try out this hearing training now. Next time there's a lull in their sailing and start with Niko first because he always needed extra time to learn new skills.

The boy's smile and words regarding her name made this young pirate captain grin. Either the name 'Tetra' was common enough that it did not immediately brought the image of piracy into the boy's mind or else, like she not knowing of Sheikahs, they didn't know of her part of the Great Sea and her reputation there.

She relaxed an ounce more as they made their way out of the park and Tetra tried not to blink and stare at all the unfamiliar things they were walking by. Where exactly was she? This was even more foreign than the World of the Ocean King!

Thankfully, her attention was quickly shifted back to Sheik as he motioned towards his eyes.

"Red eyes? Hmm... I guess they're not that common. But what if you meet a Hylian with red eyes? How would you tell if they are Sheikah or Hylian?"

Surely there must be some Hylian with red eyes? She cannot remember anybody with them - or none that stood out - but it cannot be impossible.

"Shadow Folk?" Tetra asked as she quirked another brow upwards before finding herself grinning and relaxing another ounce more in the presence of this young Sheikah. Shadow of the Hylians and Shadow Folk. This was interesting. Coming from a less than legal background herself (though she did have SOME standards), the sheer mysteriousness and sneakiness the term 'Shadow' implied sat well with her. It was unlikely that Sheik or his people were involved in anything like what she did for a living but the thought of herself being in the possible presence of a fellow 'unsavoury' member of society made her felt a little bit a home. This world was foreign but not that foreign anymore.

    Hmm... Sheikahs... Red eyes.

"Hey, have you met Ritos before then?"

Off the top of her head, she could not remember anybody in particular with red eyes but if she didn't limit her memory to trawling through Hylian faces then she'd seen plenty of red eyes - the Ritos. Almost all Ritos had red eyes and if she thought about the Ritos, the first image to emerge in her mind's eye was that of Medli. She was not as close to the girl as Link was but after Ganondorf's demise, they had gotten to know each other a little, shared their own account of their parts of the quest and the Rito girl was very helpful helping Tetra learn exactly what Link had been up to whilst the captain was in the chamber under Hyrule Castle - hey, a postal network could double up as a spy network if you knew how to ask the right questions! Relations with Link and herself was irrelevant though, the important and interesting part was that Medli was not only Valoo's attendant but also the Sage of Earth.

She had not been in it herself but Link and Medli's description of the Earth Temple were vivid enough that anybody could imagine it easily. The elements of light and darkness that was the main theme of the temple and this new boy's Shadow Folk... surely it cannot be a coincedence? Red eyes and 'shadows', could they be related? It would be kind of funny if the Sheikahs ran a postal service on their island too.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Zelda/Sheik on Sun Aug 25, 2013 10:00 pm

Sheik was glad to catch Tetra's grin regarding her thoughts on her name. Even though she herself already knew her descendant's name and just who she was, she truly did like the name… it just sounded neat, and really, it suited her. When she had first found out about the Zelda from the future Link's time, she had been incredibly keen to learn more about her. Much like her own Link, she had been intrigued and highly curious over the idea of another like herself, one who shared the same name, spirit, and Triforce… and in her own case, there was the distinct added bonus that the future Zelda did not only share her spirit, she was her own descendant.

It was neat enough to learn that like herself, Tetra also had an alias… they were both truly Zelda, but they each had the alternate identity of Tetra and Sheik respectively. Possibly even more amazing than that was that the pirate captain was also technically a disguised princess as well. Granted, her own disguise came more from the passage of time than the necessity to hide from Ganondorf, but even so, that they shared such a specific similarity… it was beyond striking.

Whilst Link and Link had got to know each other in person, Zelda had had to rely on information from Link and his three fairies to learn more about Tetra. Between that and the few things gleaned of her from one of Impa's rare books (or at least her adventures to try and find New Hyrule), the disguised princess did feel that in a way, she already knew just who Tetra was… and that stood regardless of their shared spirit. As much as she disliked the thought of any other points in Hyrule's history being destroyed, a part of her had long since wanted to meet her though… and now, she had that opportunity. Now that Tetra was here, she would be able to get to know her for herself… Link would be able to reunite with his own Zelda the way that the Hero of Time had with her… and in Tetra finding her way safely here, their own family would hopefully gain another.

That friendship was going to have to start out much the same way it had with the older Link though… as Tetra getting to know Sheik. The disguised princess did hope that she could reveal the secret to her soon, but for now, she was fine for things to continue on their present course. She did not fail to catch her descendant's bemused reactions at seeing the unfamiliar buildings of the city, and honestly, her expression as she tried not to gawk and stare too much took her back to her own arrival in the city. At least she was able to find a welcome distraction in their conversation.

"If you met a Hylian with red eyes, your best indication would probably be their attire… Sheikah tend to dress in outfits more similar to this style or light armor," explained Sheik. Sheikah also tended to have tanned skin, but even with the tan she herself had acquired since being outside more and taking up this guise, Sheik knew that mentioning that to the already very tanned Tetra was not going to be helpful. They both had natural tans in their alternate forms… was this really just their lives outside or did their shared spirit also have something to do with that? Gesturing to her tunic, Sheik added, "A less visible difference is that Sheikah have very extended lifespans… but since you can't really see that, red eyes and the Eye of the Sheikah are good points to look for. Other than that… it's just gut instinct, really."

It was a curious question to say the least, and one that Sheik had pondered several times over the years. In the end though, red eyes were the best thing to gauge a Sheikah's lineage… that, plus an indescribable feeling about them just… that was what really helped it stick for Sheik. Perhaps it was because she had been raised by Impa, but she had always felt a very slight air about her… it was the comforting presence of the Shadow Folk.

"That's right," said Sheik, nodding to Tetra. "We are very good at the art of stealth and actually do a lot of our work out of sight… that and the loyal nature are how Sheikah gained that nickname."

Sheik continued to lead the way towards the inn, letting the pirate captain take that in for a few moments, although she soon glanced right back over at her at her next question. Raising her eyebrows, the disguised princess thought for a moment on how best to answer Tetra without bringing up the timelines just yet, right before saying, "I've not, no. I have heard about them, though. ... Why do you ask?"

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Tetra on Tue Aug 27, 2013 6:08 pm

Tetra crossed her arms as she walked, finger tapping her forearm in thought. "So if the red-eyed Hylian dressed in a Sheikah outfit or a Sheikah dressed in Hylian clothes then there are no discernible physical differences you can tell them apart with? Interesting."

That certainly will make her think twice every time she met a red-eyed person from now on. The extended lifespans was also another point of interest and she looked at the boy walking beside her again. "So how old are you then? Do you just grow up slower or do you reach a certain point and slow down there?"

The boy looked like round about her age but if the longer lifespan was true then for all Tetra knew, she was walking beside a thirty year old. Was that why the boy gave off a mature aura?

Not just mature but stealthy too. Tetra's grin extended, these bandaged warriors were sounding pretty impressive so far and actually sound like people right up her alley. Stealthy, sharp and tough. She wondered if she could convince one of them to join her crew.... An eyelid lowered and she turned to the boy with a wink.

"So that's why I didn't sense you when I was in the tree." Well, it was actually because she was focused on getting herself free and had neglected her surroundings but there was no need for Sheik to know that. She would like to think she was a very perceptive person and it was unlike her to not notice if somebody was near enough to rescue her from a fall like that. "And I presume that was one of the stealth skills you used to save me with?"

Then a slight crinkle appeared at the centre of her forehead. Wait, let her get this right. Sheik know of Ritos but never met one before. So that meant his island wasn't covered by the Ritos Postal Service and considering how incredibly wide an area the service covered - which continues to expand thanks to her own sailing to find new lands which doubled as helping add new found islands to the network. Ritos could also cover absurd distances quickly too and with the high aerial vantage points...but then how did Sheik know about Ritos if his island isn't part of the network?

"You... learnt about Ritos through books?" she asked curiously. That was the only other possible way, right?

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Zelda/Sheik on Tue Aug 27, 2013 6:33 pm

"Not really, no… the only way you can tell then is if you have really keen perception," said Sheik, shaking her head slightly at the possible scenario that Tetra posed. "Anything past that… and you would need either a Sheikah artifact known as the Lens of Truth, or a honed Sheikah skill known as the Eyes of Truth to know for sure. Both of those enable you to see the truth in things and what is really there. I'm still working on the latter myself, but… perception really is the key." Truth be told, it really was interesting… Sheikah and Hylians were so similar, but the few differences they held were just enough to link them together even more.

"I'm 12," Sheik responded, smiling a bit to Tetra at her next pair of questions. "We actually grow up at the same rate that Hylians do… once we hit our early 20s though, we just slow down there." Pausing for a moment as another thought hit her, she asked, "How about you? How old are you?"

If she could get an answer on that, then she might be able to even better tell just what point in time Tetra had been pulled from.

At catching Tetra's wink around her latest statement, Sheik could not help but grin, both at the action as well as at catching yet another similarity between the pirate captain and herself. Link had shared with her at least a couple of times that her own winking was uncannily similar to that of the older girl, to the point that over a year and a half later, even with as used to herself as he was, he still blinked in surprise at it. She had fully believed him based on their other apparent similarities, but to actually see their striking resemblance with her own eyes, and to be met with her own trademark wink? Now more than ever, she saw exactly what he meant.

Winking back to Tetra, Sheik laughed slightly before stating, "That's right. I think that was more your own understandable distraction with trying to get down safely, but I was trying to be careful so as not to surprise you. And you presume correctly… it's a technique known as the Sheikah Vanish."

As the two continued on, Sheik did not fail to catch the pensive expression on her descendant's face, and a few moments later, she raised her eyebrows slightly at her curious question. Nodding to the older girl and deciding to keep the fact that they were from different times to the side for now, she noted, "Mostly, yes. Like I said, you and I are from the same world, but we seem to be from different parts of it. I've not met any Ritos… but I have met some of the Zoras."

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Tetra on Tue Aug 27, 2013 7:24 pm

Keen perception she does have, along with a good amount of gut instinct but even she might be hard pressed to distinguish between a on purposefully disguised Hylian or Sheikah. Unless they give tell tale signs or act shifty, it would still take her a while - yes a while because she wouldn't think her perception is that bad that she will continued to be fooled for long periods of time.

Tetra's ears perked up. Why? Because the boy said a certain word: Artifact. Treasure senses tingling, she stored that information away for later use and focused on something else. "Eyes of Truth. That one sounds a bit familiar now. Didn't I read somewhere that there use to be stones with eyes painted on them?"

Gossip Stones, she believe they were called though she really wouldn't have interest in them had the King not mentioned them when she demanded to know why he was using her Pirate's Charm to communicate with Link.

"I'm thirteen," Tetra answered, squinting at the obvious height difference between them. Farore, this was unfair! He's twelve and he's that tall! She better not be like Niko and be destined to be of short stature. Twelve year old, tall, good looking and a young warrior excelling at stealth and 'vanishing'. Somehow she had a very good feeling that Link would get along very well with this boy of seemingly increasing skill set. Her previous worry of being snatched away by the vanishing act should had resurfaced again but a more pressing matter chose to show up instead, namely, the road.

They had reached the park entrance and the pirate captain had stopped and gaped at the traffic criss-crossing the street. What in all of the Great Sea are THOSE?! Super fast mine carts? But there are no tracks. Huh?! She turned to Sheik, about to demand an explanation but closed her mouth instead. No, this brought a sharp reminder that she was not in her own world anymore and she should be more careful. Tetra collected herself and pretended her surprise and shock did not happen.

"Zoras? Like Zora warriors who works for dark forces or the Ritos' ancestors?" She would had liked to see the latter especially since the Great Sea was as it was, she can't see all of the aquatic folks just up and evolving into Ritos when the water covered so much of the land.

As she regarded Sheik again, she suddenly stopped again. Wait... there had been something about this boy's appearance which had been bugging her for a long while now. Something about the way he looked. Was it the face? He did wink at her and she wasn't too sure how to react to that. Something was....suspicious? No. It was something familiar and it felt like she was just given a major clue regarding what it was...Sheikah... Sheik...red eyes...

"AAH!" cried the girl and she reached forward with both hands and caught the boy's white tunic. "This! I've seen this before."

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Zelda/Sheik on Tue Aug 27, 2013 8:40 pm

Based on what she had heard from from Link as well as the sense she was getting from Tetra herself here, Sheik had a very strong feeling that her descendant's perception was just about as keen as her own. Thankfully, her disguise still seemed to be perfect enough to escape any detection from it… she was not at all surprised about that, but she was still quite grateful for it. As much as she wanted to tell the older girl who she really was… this was one of those things that really was better left to be built up to.

Nodding to Tetra at her question regarding the Eyes of Truth, Sheik smiled a bit as she answered, stating, "Yeah, there were… they were called Gossip Stones. The symbols were carved instead of painted, but they were found all across the world in certain places, and if you wore a Mask of Truth, they would give you different information."

The disguised princess was not exactly surprised that Tetra had read about Gossip Stones, especially given her own possession of the Pirate's Charm, but she was definitely happy for her to have already made that connection. It seemed that even though the Sheikah were long since gone by the captain's time, that their presence had lived on even more.

Sheik nodded slightly once Tetra admitted that she was thirteen. That seemed about right… and if that was the case… then not only was she Link's current age after his own time spent here, then they were definitely from the same general point in time. There was a difference of course since Link had first been brought here when he was twelve, but even so… their ages lined up perfectly for each other. It was just the same how as the younger Link's and her own had matched once she had first arrived. They had missed some time together, but it seemed to be a fair tradeoff to be able to still be the same ages. Now she was even more excited for her to reunite with the Hero of Winds!

Not failing to catch Tetra's sudden surprise at seeing the bustling cars up close, Sheik soon sympathized with the older girl as she saw yet another stark reminder that she as not in her own world anymore. She was also instantly reminded of her own stunned reaction at seeing them after she had first arrived here… the sight of them had been just one of many surprises then. Glancing to the older girl the instant she caught her look, the disguised princess simply blinked to her as she closed her mouth. It seemed that she was set to save the question on just what automobiles were for later, and since that was the case, Sheik tilted her head to the side a bit, signaling for her to follow her down the sidewalk out here.

"Zoras like the Ritos' ancestors," noted Sheik. "They might be more aquatic than avian, but from what I've read, there's definitely a resemblance."

Speaking of resemblances, Tetra seemed to have stopped suddenly once more, causing the disguised princess to blink and raise her eyebrows slightly. Had she caught more of the one that they shared? Or… was something else on her mind? Before Sheik could ask her what was on her mind, she jolted upright slightly at Tetra's cry and sudden reach for her Sheikah tunic. "Ha?!"

And Tetra's attention was immediately on the red Sheikah emblem that she wore. Letting out a silent sigh as the older girl remarked that she had seen the symbol before, Sheik asked, "You mean the Eye of the Sheikah? It's the symbol of my people… ah… where have you seen it before?"

Where had she seen this eye emblem before indeed. Tetra rubbed it fabric between her fingers. “Well they were on the gossip stone diagrams,” explained the pirate before she lifted the garment to see if the embroidery was only on one side and since she’s looking already, a quick flick of her eyes managed to catch sight of what was beneath the white tunic. MORE bandages? What’s the point of bandages on the torso area now? She’ll ask that later because another thing just dawned to her and made her narrow her eyes.

“I saw this eye symbol, or a variation of it, on a stain glass window in a….old historical building before,” she said slowly, figuring that whilst the Great Sea does have many oddities and strange occurrences, telling people that she’d been to a castle under the sea and stayed there for who-knew-how-long (what? It wasn’t like she had a sun or moon to judge time by!) wasn’t something that was as easily accepted without explanation. Tetra pointed at the triangles above the eye. “Except the one I saw only had one triangle.”

It made sense though, to Tetra, and further proved that this kid was not lying to her about his background - or if he was it was very cleverly laced with lots of truths.  She saw the symbol on a stain glass window of the Sage of Shadows and the Sheikah are known as the Shadow Folk. So the pieces clicked into place and he got her answer: there were such people as Sheikahs since long ago… but how did they manage to get to such a far flung island to the extent that her parts of the Great Sea haven’t heard of them before? And what about the triangles above the eye? The one she saw only had one but Sheik’s had three. Is that related at all?

She chuckled and dropped the tunic. “I guess you are not that new and foreign to me after all. At least I still get some sense of familiarity with you unlike all that.”

Tetra gestured at the traffic and the buildings on the other side of the road. Not only was the concept foreign but the entire structure wasn’t like anything she’d seen before. The pirate waved for them to continue onto… wherever it was the boy was leading her, again feeling that bit more relaxed and less wary about him. “So these gossip stones are carved? What, does the Sheikahs run around a carve the eyes on them or are they natural occurrences?”

If they were natural didn’t that mean they might be alive? But if they were Sheikah-made then where do the stones get the information from? Does it connect up to a gossip network managed by the Shadow Folk and if it did...HEY! Doesn’t that mean they might had been eavesdropping on her conversations with Link through her Pirate’s Charm?

Sheik nodded a little as Tetra mused about how she had seen the Eye of the Sheikah on diagrams of Gossip stones before, her red eyes widening slightly as she further inspected the design on her Sheikah tunic. "I see…" Sheik responded, still feeing a little surprised yet at the same time kind of special from the sudden intense attention from her descendant. From what she had learned about the pirate captain, she had to be truly interested in something to spend the time actually taking a good look at it… anything that was not worth her time was usually looked at very briefly before being summarily tossed aside… sometimes literally.

It might have just been the tunic of her alternate outfit, but all the same… maybe this piqued interest could help them start off even better as friends. That thought made the disguised princess smile inwardly, although she was careful not to express that on the outside.

Nodding once more as Tetra confirmed the other place that she had seen the Sheikah Emblem, Sheik cocked a curious eyebrow, wondering if she in fact meant Hyrule Castle. In her own time, the castle had had quite a few stained glass windows, but it had apparently gained even more in the future according to the older Link. He was not able to remember exactly what was depicted on each one, but he had at the very least mentioned to her that the chamber that held the Master Sword had a good number of them. It was about seven, wasn't it?

… Was there an Eye of the Sheikah on one of the windows in that chamber? And if so… what else was on that particular window?

Holding onto that thought to ask later once Tetra was able to properly learn about the two times of Hyrule that were present here, Sheik for now followed the older girl's finger as she pointed to the central triangle on her tunic. Narrowing her own gaze a bit in curiosity, Sheik noted, "Huh… that is a variation of the emblem, but whether it's one or three triangles, it's still the same."

Sheik smiled a bit as Tetra dropped her tunic, soon echoing her chuckle with a soft one of her own. "Ah, yeah… sorry about that," said the disguised princess, glancing in the direction of the older girl's gesture before turning back to her. "This world is definitely different from ours… but there is plenty of stuff here that should remind you of home. You just have to know where to look for it."

Nodding to Tetra as she gestured for her to continue, Sheik waved for her to follow, soon turning back to her at her next two questions. "They are, yes… the stones themselves are pretty mythical and appeared in all sorts of places, but the original symbols were carved by Sheikah long ago to pick up and share information. If you wear a Mask of Truth or another Sheikah item that the stone would respond to, you can hear what it's overheard… that can be pretty useful."

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Tetra on Sat Sep 07, 2013 9:21 pm

Tetra's interest wasn't the easiest to get nor was it to maintain as well though usually anything of monetary value tends to work, alongside new discoveries in the world. A girl had to live so she didn't always have time to sit back and be interested in little knick knacks that neither worth her time or patience. Time was money. There were treasures out there to be found and seas to be sailed. Thankfully, information were usually stored away for later use regardless of them being initially useless or interesting or not. In this case, her read up about the gossip stones nudged her mind in the right direction to recognise the boy's emblem.

So the number of triangles above the eye wasn't of that much importance? How odd. Tetra would have thought they symbolised something apart from it just being a design. Tetra also cannot shake the feeling that she had seen the symbol elsewhere apart from depictions of Gossip Stones in books and on the stained glass window of the Sage of Shadows.... but where else? That was the question.

An eyebrow was cocked up at the statement that there are also many things here that should remind her of the Great Sea. Well, Tetra supposed that no matter where you go, earth was still earth, water was still water, people were still people so things would always remain similar in that extent. Really, as long as she had the sea she was pretty content wherever she was. But these similarities sound intriguing. It almost sounded like a challenge. Could she find these similarities in this foreign world of fancy parks, fancy boats and fancy metal carriages? Where should she be looking for these similarities? Her lips extended into a grin as her mind noted: challenge accepted.... until she found something more interesting to entertain herself with that is.

She followed the boy getting a vague sense of deja vu as she was reminded of that time under the sea when she had followed Link into the then unknown place which was Hyrule Castle. At least this time, her guide was talkative. "It seems like Sheikahs had been around for a long time," Tetra noted. It was amazing how she haven't read a book or stumbled into some ruins depicting them during all the travelling she'd been doing. Could something had happened that made them so scarcely known in her parts of the Great Sea?

"Overheard?" Tetra laughed at that. No wonder they're called Gossip Stones. They really do share gossip! She'd have to make sure that if she ever encountered one in real life, to not speak of any important information around them least it gets passed onto somebody she didn't want knowing. "So do they share information between each other as well?"

They must do or else how would the Pirate's Charm work as it does?

Post by Zelda/Sheik on Sat Sep 07, 2013 10:11 pm

Sheik smiled a bit at catching Tetra's cocked eyebrow regarding the things that might remind either of them of home, inwardly hoping that both the Stock Pot Inn as well as the other familiar areas of the Breach might help her descendant adapt even more quickly. The three rooms that the Hyruleans had were undoubtedly going to be the best part for that, and the disguised princess had a very strong feeling that the room that Tetra wound up in would soon make that a quartet of cozy Hyrulean rooms.

Thinking a bit more on it, Sheik soon found herself wondering just which room they might help the pirate captain to acquire. Both rooms around the older Link's room were currently empty… and to help keep things in a perfect quadrangle, she had a very strong feeling that they might give her Room 323. It was right next door to the older Link, directly underneath the younger Link, and in a really good location overall. Even though Tetra would have the chance to take an entirely different room if she liked, the disguised princess was fairly certain that once she was reunited with the Hero of Winds, that she might like to make her own quarters right next to him… and hopefully, if their own friendships formed quickly with her as well, that would help it come in just as handy.

Sheik smiled a bit herself at seeing Tetra's own pensive grin, just before she looked ahead to confirm that they were only a couple of blocks away from the Stock Pot Inn now.

"We have been, yes… just about as long as Hylians, actually," stated Sheik, nodding to Tetra's words. "We're not nearly as common but our own history goes back roughly as far as yours does. Some of it is not fully detailed across historical texts, but it's rather intertwined."

It was a little sad to think that by Tetra and the older Links time that Impa really had been the last of the Sheikah, but even so… to know that their legacy had lived on somehow? Sheik was rather glad for that. Even with the fate of the Kingdom of Hyrule in that time, she was still glad to know that it was carried on with a new generation… and although Tetra was here now, somewhere, in a time back in their own world, she was already discovering New Hyrule.

The Breach was not Hyrule or even New Hyrule, but even so… the Hyruleans there had been able to make their own home there, and Sheik hoped that Tetra would soon fall right in with them in that endeavor.

"Yeah," Sheik said, nodding and laughing as well at Tetra's question. She grinned a little at the second one, right before answering both, stating, "They overhear certain pieces of information, but each stone only really holds one key piece. For example, a stone in one part of a field might tell you about a trick to acquiring more rupees or hearts, and another in the forest might tell you an interesting secret about someone."

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Tetra on Mon Sep 09, 2013 7:18 pm

"It's kind of odd that I don't know of the Sheikah until now," remarked Tetra. "I'm not really the type to pour over books but I like to think I'm pretty well travelled and seen enough ruins and artifacts. I wonder what happened that drove your people to such far reaches of the ocean that my parts of the Great Sea don't have any traces of you anymore... save the stain glass window." And what's become of the Gossip Stone but she'd rather not share that yet since it's her only way to communicate with her crew and Link. She still wasn't sure if it was safe to reveal it yet lest it be taken from her.

Tetra grinned as the boy joined her in laughter then lowered one eyelid into a wink, glad to get some laughter from what could be a potential new friend or at the very least acquaintance. "So, what do these stones sound like? They do have a voice, right? And 'secret'?"

The disguised princess leant a little closer, testing the waters to see if this secret was secret enough to be shared by somebody who would totally not take advantage of it (hey! She really wouldn't if there was no profit involved) or if it was really a secret. If Sheik said it like that, it was almost inviting her to ask this! They had only just met but surely the Sheikah boy must have gathered by now that Tetra wasn't the type of person to leave such juicy information alone.

Also, didn't Link said he met some talking stones in the World of the Ocean King before? Were they the same kind of stones as the ones they were talking about right now or something entirely different? She never got a chance to get him on elaborating on that, not when there were much more interesting parts to the story like dodging phantoms, sailing and temple storming. She did learn that the stones charged him rupees to reveal treasure chest locations in dungeons though. Huh, seems like those of Sheik's islands got the better part of the deal in that the information is free if you have a mask or an 'item' (extra interest piqued right there).

The stones actually reminded her of the Fishmen in the Great Sea except  all the Fishmen need were common bait or if you're like the King of Red Lions and are chummy enough with the creatures, they might just pop up for a chat without you having to fling out a food invite.

"So do they sell these Masks in shops?" asked the pirate with an eyebrow waggle that firmly suggested she would be interested in getting in line for one if they were available.... or steal one when no-one was looking but the kid didn't need to know that. As far as Sheik was concerned with right now, Tetra was just a harmless sea traveller who was unfortunate enough meet a Big Octo and was flung into this unknown world.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Awakening

Post by Zelda/Sheik on Tue Sep 10, 2013 1:17 pm

"Yeah, I guess it is..." said Sheik, nodding slightly in agreement with Tetra. Her expression softened a little as the older girl mused about how it was odd that there were hardly any traces of Sheikah across the Great Sea, and although she already knew quite well that Impa had effectively been the last of the Sheikah for the future Link and Tetra's time, it was still interesting to think just how much some things had changed for that future. It wasn't bad of course, as change was the very way of nature. For every thing that had remained the same or at least reflected on its past state, there were new and different things, and that was the sign of living for the future.

That future as well as the one that Aicara was from were both different Hyrules from the one that Zelda, Link, and Impa knew so well... but it was still their world. Even with the passage of time, even with the changes wrought by destiny... Hyrule was still the same mythical kingdom.

Although her interest regarding that stained glass window had once again been piqued, Sheik simply smiled at that mention for now, right before stating, "I suppose that happened with the passage of time." And really, even though Tetra did not yet know that she was from the past, time passing was the main cause for that change.

Returning Tetra's grin before laughing a bit both at her wink and questions, Sheik noted, "They sound kind of like a deep whisper in your head... that's the best way to describe them. And yes, secrets." Feeling even more amused as the older girl leaned in close, the disguised princess chuckled a little before adding, "Nothing really major, usually... just facts that might not be as well known. For example, one of them is about how a friend of mine set the original record on an obstacle course... others are just things like that."

Sheik knew that she had to be careful not to share any of the names of most of those Gossip Stones, at least not yet... after all, it was best for Tetra to learn about the different points of time present here and some of those from the past of Hyrule before anything more specific was shared. Regardless, she was very intrigued by the older girl's definite interest in Gossip Stones. It made perfect sense, esepcially given the very nature of the stones combined with the origin of her Pirate's Charm. To be able to share about the predecessors of her descendant's charm with her... once more, Sheik was feeling rather special.

The disguised princess could not help but wonder again if this was part of how Link had felt once he had met the older Link... she knew that the feeling was very similar for the Hero of Winds towards the Hero of Time, but it was just a little different speaking from the past first. Whether it was marveling at the future or the past, both were immensely special, and Sheik could not wait for them all to share even more tales from across the two times.

At Tetra's question, Sheik just smiled and shook her head before stating, "Sorry, but they don't. They're passed down by the Sheikah... but if you're lucky and someone feels that one of the masks might have a good place with you, you might just be able to acquire one as a gift." After all, that was part of how the Happy Mask Salesman had gained one... that was the way that non-Sheikah got them usually. Regardless, Sheik was definitely amused at her descendant's interest in the artifact! And since she was so intrigued... "I actually have a Mask of Truth of my own. I could show it to you later if you like."
