Re: A Sleepover? Is That What Normal People Do?

So, apparently Jo's euphemism was more metaphorical than true. Though the demon did furrow his brow slightly once it was mentioned that Zurg made the sleepover sound better than it was. Hm, wonder how he managed that. All things aside, it seemed everyone else was quite fine with the evening get together. It was three positives to Jo's one negative, so it seemed... Someone was a party pooper, and that party pooper was you. A plume of smoke curled from the demon's grill and into the mild country air, a low rumble penetrating the air as he looked back towards the mechanic. "I see. I apologize that this was not exactly as you had imagined it, Jo. Or how Zurg had apparently... Described it." The prince's gaze flicked over to the purple alien, the fiery pupils staying on him for a moment studiously before looking over to the others. A little charm was nice, but when it concerned removing important details? Where did charm end and lies begin?

Did the monarch even mention that Prixlezub was the one who sent the invitation? Well, that detail was an obvious given with the note he left, but whether the demon was going to be there the whole time... That could have been debatable. Or maybe it was the fact that the sleepover was outdoors... There were a number of factors that could have been left out, and many that the prince could have mulled over had there not been an interruption. Apparently there was a vote for a campfire, and some confusion over what was supposed to be done.

The checklist was simple, but it basically was what the demon had thought a sleepover to be as well. "I had thought similar to Kev. From what I know of it, this event is for merriment and being around friends. Eating, talking, relaxing... Sleeping of course. Though, given we are technically outside of a building, perhaps this is considered more to be backyard camping, as the term goes." Prixlezub stated slowly, pondering over his words. He doubted what counted for a sleepover had anything in mind for his size concerning where it usually took place, and those who were partaking in it would have had any interest in sleeping over at the demon's lair of all places. The travel would have been much too long, and the accommodations did not have much in mind for such fragile guests. No one wanted to have to swim through a lava pit to enter the prince's home, no one. As for games, who knows what sorts of things took place during those. The demon surely did not have a clue.

...No, there would be no using the demon prince for a campfire. They all would sooner doom all their marshmallows to burn black and crispy than make the demon some amiable outdoor fireplace. "You better not look towards me." He warned, smoke curling from his maw. "If there is going to be a fire, we should build a pit first to keep it contained. I will dig the pit and collect stones to place around it." Prixlezub stated to Kev. The last thing they all needed was a grass fire while they all slept. Not the best end to what is supposed to be a relaxing evening. And in the morning, a swipe of the demon's claw could fill it in with dirt. As for collecting firewood, Kev could get the firewood if he wished... though with his low strength abilities, he pondered that perhaps others would go with him.

Wait, where would there be firewood where there were no trees? Was Kev going to run all the way back to his home and carry logs? "Kev, do you need assistance with getting firewood?" the prince asked, unsure as to what the green alien had in mind.

What's this then? Zurg would get Jo back for poking fun of his physiology later - right now he had other things to concern himself with. For example, and the first on his list of things to do, was reassuring Prixlezub about a few minor details. Let's begin. "You sound dubious," the monarch pointed out. "Surely you must have faith in me and my truthful rendition of this fateful evening." There was no one being negative at all. If anyone was coming off as tense then it was Prixlezub. "By charming, Jo means the more colourful adjectives I used to describe our little get-together. No pertinent technicality was left out when I informed both Lawrence and Jo about tonight - this includes location, intent, and, of course, present company." Why was Prixlezub acting on edge around the mechanic? Jo may not be partial to the demon but she certainly wasn't assuming anything about him. She was so far minding her own business and interacting.

Actually, Prixlezub came off as paranoid - in thinking, rather than bodily activity. Why?

"Hmm." Zurg wasn't sure he liked his integrity being called into question for something so trivial as this, but he chose to focus on the others. For now, at least. "A fire sounds like a good idea," he agreed. Although they already had Prixlezub with the energy of a thousand suns, they will be needing something a bit... less toasty. In relation to the snacks, that was.

Zurg decided to walk around and survey the nearby land, kneeling down every so often to feel the grass with his fingers. "I think we should build... here," the monarch stated, standing back up. Here was a patch of grass that wasn't too close to Kev's home and was relatively appropriate for having a fire near it. There were also less patches of dirt and the like, as well. "A pit ought to do, along with some decent-sized rocks." But a fire will take firewood; plains weren't really rich with trees. Unless Kev wanted to sacrifice a sapling or tree from the creek around his cottage, their plan was met with a snag. "Kev, if you go get the firewood in your cottage then we will go out and gather some rocks and sticks," the monarch offered. This way bodies were delegated efficiently and no time was lost. "Prixlezub, you can cover the most distance; why don't you carry Kev back to his home or, in case he has no firewood, go out with him into the wilderness to collect some?" It shouldn't be too much of a hassle when the demon could gallop at ridiculous speeds. As for both Jo and Lawrence?

"Jo, Lawrence - you can come with me if you'd like. I am going to find the rocks we need for the pit and some firm sticks for roasting... what do you call them, s'mores?" Blech, sugar, sugar, and more sugar. The monarch wouldn't be having any of that. He etched a 'Z' into the earth to denote where their campsite will be and began to walk off, gesturing for the other two to follow if they desired.

Lawrence stood there and watched everyone else's antics, letting Zurg do the questioning of Prixlezub's slight edginess. He wasn't sure what the prince's problem might be, but so long as it didn't interfere with this little get-together, he didn't quite care either way.

When Zurg picked out a spot for the fire, the robot took a scan of the area, both to confirm it was a good choice and to commit the spot to memory. The fire would stay put so long as they built a proper pit for it, and there was still enough grass for comfortable seating around said fire. "Yes, this looks like a very good spot indeed. And I think I will accompany you; we cannot really get comfortable until everything has been set up, after all."

The butler moved to follow the monarch, already looking for suitable rocks for the fire pit.

Obligatory Kev hug. Jo lightly giggled at having her hair ruffled and the mechanic struck up a heroic pose, flexing. "Think nothing of it, fair maiden," she teased, sounding knightly and important. Even her eyes were closed with her nose kissing the sky. "It was the least I could do against the fearsome and most shameless Zurgythingy." But she cut it out and winked at her scaly friend. "I've been doing good, thanks! A lil' busy and all that, but I'm holding my own. What about you, Kev? It must be dreadfully exciting out here with the sheep and Llama~!"

It... also turned out that Kev didn't really have a clue about sleepovers. Again, Jo glanced over to Lawrence and quietly sighed. "Figures." But if anyone thought that Jo was a party pooper, well... They clearly didn't know the mechanic.

"That's okay, Kev. We'll figure something out. Big Z! We're gonna need your eyes." Because she doubted that, aside from Prixlezub and Lawrence, Kev and herself would be able to see in the dark fairly well. And speaking of that demon... "Why are you apologizing? It's just a sleepover -- not like it's the biggest deal in the world." And who was being negative!? Not this woman, nuh-uh. She puffed out her chest proudly and thrust a stubborn thumb into it. "And it takes more than Big Z's charisma to get me to do anything I don't want to do." If Jo didn't want to do it, then she didn't want to do it. That was the Pistonne way! Prixlezub was being pretty antsy about something, but Jo figured it wasn't any of her business. So she looked back at Big Z and wore a small frown. "Not to, uh, question the validity of your judgment, Big Z, but... You're gonna send Prixlezub to fetch wood with Kev? You know, the demon that's on fire?" But looks like that's how it's gonna be so the mechanic shrugged at the demon. "Guess you're on firewood duty." That left sticks and stones with hopefully no broken bones.

Jo came over to Lawrence and Big Z, saluting. "I can't see crap, Captain, but I'll do my best." Mm, s'mores!

Re: A Sleepover? Is That What Normal People Do?

Post by Kev on Mon Jun 03, 2013 7:02 pm

Well, this sleepover was already turning out quite...interesting. Prixlezub seemed quite interested in how Jo was enjoying the sleepover so far. Kev tried to remember the other times that Prixlezub and Jo had been together somewhere and could only remember a few odd moments in the Sanctuary, such as that time Kev was Jo's steed and Prixlezub had been their dragon that they fought the maiden Zurg for. Prixlezub had been...unamused. The point still stood though that perhaps Jo and Prixlezub were not as familiar with each other as the rest of this group was, so perhaps Prixlezub was a little on edge about it?

Zurg picked up on it too, and insisted that he hadn't left out any details about their little get together tonight. Hoping that the tension would be pressed out, Kev stood a bit closer to Lawrence and Jo in the meantime, admiring Jo's heroic pose with a stifled snicker. With her nose so far up at the sky, Kev couldn't resist reaching up and giving her nose a small poke. "Oh brave Hero! I'd say you have earned a token of my appreciation!" Kev pulled his cape over the top of his head and held it towards her. "A cape to match a heroic...hero!" The giving of that cape was temporary, mind you. "Busy with the shop or just in general?" He chuckled and looked around the surrounding area, to see if said Llama was around. "It hasn't been terribly exciting, no, but I've been enjoying the quiet." You never knew how long it would last, after all!

Aah, so Prixlezub was just as knowledgeable as himself. Of course, among present company, who would have the most knowledge about sleepovers? They were two Aliens, one Demon, one Robot, and one humanoid female. Not to say that Jo immediately had knowledge of sleepovers just because she was female either, and Kev had a few impromptu sleepovers he had been apart of, this was just his first 'outside' sleepover. Well, unless you count sleeping in the alleys during the Phazon crisis with Livewire a few times.

A pit, eh? Made sense! Prixlezub offered to dig the pit and collect stone to put around, to keep the flames from escaping. The demon's question made Kev blink. Oh, right, fire needed wood, of course! Kev had been referring to his gloves that had flamethrowers in the palms as a way to light the fires, although hey, can't just light air!~ At least, not if you wanted a small fire rather than a brush fire. He glanced down at his arms almost self consciously. "I may need some...assistance."

His large eyes observed Zurg at work, eventually finding a spot that he designated the pit spot. He craned his neck and nodded in agreement, looked good to him! "Good idea, Zurg!" The cottage lacked central air or heat, so in order to stay warm for the winter, they had to either just...open a window, turn on a fan, or pile some wood into the fireplace. He still had some wood ready for burning, and so that would be the simplest place to get firewood, rather than searching the woods blindly and hoping to find something bigger than a stick. "I have some firewood, although uh..." He eyed Prixlezub's firey back. "How are you going to carry me, Prixlezub?" Perhaps his...teeth?

Jo likewise called into question how a fire demon was going to help carry the flammable firewood. "Maybe we could put it in a bag or something to keep it from igniting immediately!" Hardly the type to sit around, Zurg, Lawrence, and Jo would find the rocks needed for the pit, as well as sticks for s'mores. "S'mores...?" What a weird word.

Dubious? The demon had to admit even to himself he was acting a bit strange. He gave a slight shake of his head and a puff of smoke from his grill, looking back down to the purple alien. "I suppose I was a little confused is all, Zurg. I did not mean to bring your truthfulness on the matter into question." Prixlezub rumbled evenly. However, everything seemed cleared up thanks to that brief explanation. Although the prince gave a quizzical look over of him once more when he advised that the demon go fetch the firewood. Jo's reasoning was the same reason why the demon wanted to get the stones in the first place. They did not burn to ash when he got close. Though upon further thought... The alien was quite right when he said that the demon prince was one of the swifter members of their group.

"I shall go with Kev then." He agreed, rising to his feet. Looking over at the greener one of the bunch, it seemed Kev was a little confused as to how the demon was going to carry him. "Do not fret, Kev. You may ride upon my horns, since they are cooler than the rest of me." The demon explained as he approached. With a swift and precise bow of his head and a sweep to the side, he pushed a curved tine between the alien's legs and hoisted him up. Within seconds, Kev would find himself perched a good thirty three feet in the air atop the swiftest creature on four legs.

"I suggest you hold tight." The demon warned as he lumbered away from the group. It seemed like a leisurely pace at first, until the prince kicked off from his hind hooves and quickly went into a full on dash towards the cottage. Kev would find the wind slapping him in the face as the ground rushed in a green blur beneath both of them, a resounding din of thunder rolling from the prince's powerful stride.

"First of all, my vexatious children, it's X'rghthu. Say it with me: Sherg - too. It's not rocket science!" Zurg huffed indignantly. You don't see him mispronouncing human or carmorph demon! Kev, sorry, but your specie name... He wasn't going to make a fool of himself and get tongue-tied. "What do you mean, shameless!?" The world was ganging up on him!

Except Prixlezub. Prixlezub was back into the land of the reasonable.

But while some thought to question the monarch's infallible logic, Zurg merely chuckled to himself and would let the universe decide who was more clever than the average bear. Watch and observe...

    BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!
Off went Prixlezub, galloping straight into the night on the quest for wood. It was rather mesmerizing to watch his mane streak against the enveloping darkness, no? The demon was shortly much farther away within an impressive amount of time, but not before causing the ground to quake and the world to heave. "I'd say that merited an, oh... 5.3 on the Earthen Richter scale," the monarch commented aloud. "I hope Kev doesn't have his fine china set out..." Wouldn't that be disastrous? The monarch waited for the world to cease rocking before continuing on his quest. That's right! His humble quest to gather materials for the sleepover. "Aha, yes... A retrieval quest. You know, I find those second to escort quests - tedious." But he was going to be a good sport about it. After all, one cannot trust the cadet, over there, to spot a stick from, say, a nasty critter in the encroaching darkness.

    Let it begin!

The darker it became, the larger Zurg's pupils swelled. Pay him no mind if you catch his eyes reflecting light in just the right way - pretend he was a great, purple cat for the moment. "Sticks and stones, sticks and stones... This wouldn't be so hard if we weren't in a meadow." Maybe they would have better luck near the cre - oh, oh! Zurg's toes brushed against something and the monarch slightly jumped. "I spy with my little eye... a stick!" Well, more accurately with this foot but no need to digress. He bent down and picked it up, holding his find proudly.

Actually, it was more a twig... But still! He found it. Seeing as how both he and Lawrence will not be eating s'mores, however, Zurg offered it to Jo. "For you, I suppose. No one else can really... eat s'mores." Which begged a good question, didn't it?

Why in the Cosmos did he offer to find sticks for s'mores!?

Zurg scratched beneath a horn and felt dreadfully silly. "Er... I guess we just need to find rocks, then. Y-Yes, rocks! Nice, round rocks. No pebbles or really tiny bits of gravel... Right, off to find useful, much-needed rocks." And to bury his shame at the same time.

Lawrence couldn't help but snicker at Zurg's protest, finding it all too amusing. "Oh, but that shamelessness of yours is part of your charm . . . it can be one of your more endearing qualities at times." He left it at that, much more and it might be seen as something it wasn't.

The butler had to steady himself for a moment when Prixlezub went galloping off, the shaking a bit much for his stabilizers to compensate for. At the commentary he nodded, but that didn't keep him from referencing his sensors and being a pill about it. "5.3791, to be precise. I don't remember seeing many fragile things in Kev's house, but I hope if there are any, they're safely in storage."

And so the journey for sticks and rocks began, with Lawrence starting to switch to night vision as he followed Zurg and Jo. Hmm, maybe he should be leading? The lighting on his chassis as well as his optics might provide a bit more light to see by. It didn't take very long into their search for the monarch to find a stick for s'mores, though it would turn out they would only need the one for Jo. Kev didn't have a mouth, Zurg couldn't eat sugar, and Prixlezub probably wouldn't eat it.

Cue Zurg getting a bit flustered over volunteering to find sticks, and Lawrence shrugged, even though no one might see that. "It's the thought that counts, I suppose? Now, I believe I see a few suitable rocks over there..."

Easy There, Champ wrote:"Oh, but that shamelessness of yours is part of your charm . . . it can be one of your more endearing qualities at times."
"Careful not to overclock yourself; we're out in the middle of nowhere~!" Shamelessness wouldn't be the first endearing quality that came to Jo's mind.

Ooh, Kev's cape! But it was not for her and Jo lightly giggled at having her nose poked. "Nothing wrong with a little peace and quiet. It's actually nice compared to the world being threatened twice a year," she agreed. At least Kev had all of this wonderful space to himself. Well, when he wasn't being visited by dragons, random people, and veiled space monarchs. "S'mores are nice campfire treats made with delicious chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers. They're really good and gooey!" And looks like Prixlezub was going to fetch the firewood after all. "I still don't think that's a good idea..." Because fire and wood, Big Z!

But Big Z was being classical Big Z, chuckling to himself like he knew something she didn't. And you know what, he did.

    BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Pull over, dat ass is too fat! Jo was nearly knocked off her two feet, the mechanic frantically holding out her arms for balance. "Kev's fine china!? What about US!" Of all the things that come to Big Z's mind, he thinks about dishes. But despite Jo being a naysayer and not believing in the great space whale logic, Prixlezub was probably the best for Kev. The demon was gone straight outta the park and would be back with the wood in record time. That meant they had to collect the sticks and stones, which...

Jo didn't want to say anything for fear of making things incredibly awkward, but it sounded like Big Z already reached the very conclusion she wanted to say: no one else could eat s'mores but her. She took the twig when it was offered, though. It was the thought that counts!

"Thanks for the stick, Cat-Eyes. Your little hop into the air was cute, too." Big Z with his sensitive toes.

Anyway, Lawrence was quick to find some rocks so hopefully the pile would be enough. Jo couldn't see very well in the dark at this rate, but Lawrence's glowing optics provided a decent amount of illumination for her. "Don't sweat it, Big Z. You were just looking out for the rest of us," she said. Words of encouragement! Now, about those rocks? Jo was going to help anyway she could, and that meant using her stick to poke around in the dark. Poke, poke, poke. Aha, she hit something firm! "Heeeeey, I think I found more rocks over here, you -- "

    "Hssssssskikikik!"

" -- guYSAHGHAGHOHCOSMOSSOMETHINGMOVED!" Zoom! Jo leaped higher into the air than Big Z ever could and the mechanic and made a straight bunzel beeline in the opposite direction. That also just so happened to be Big Z's direction, where Jo shamelessly scampered up on him and clung for dear life. Don't mind her cold, clammy hands stretching your cheeks as far as they could go, Big Z, or her legs wrapped around your torso like a vice; this was life or death! "AHHH! AHHH! AHHH! THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE DARK!" Jo screamed.

Damn, nature. Why you gotta be scary?

Ah, now things were settling down once again. And Prixlezub was definitely going to join him in collecting that firewood! They'd still have to figure out how to get the fire without setting it on fire, but they'd come to that when they got the chance, right? Kev nodded in agreement with Jo. "I hope things have been nice and quiet for you guys too!" Aside from that little accident during Ra Moon. And, ever so helpful, Jo explained to him what a s'more was. "oh! I've heard of roasting marshmallows, but never the s'mores. I'd like to try that sometime!" Oh yes, it seemed the only one to be ingesting those s'mores today would be Jo.

Kev turned to the much larger demon as he approached. "Your horns? Are you sure?" They looked rather...pointy, to him! He almost backed up when those horns got even closer, but the demon was faster. One moment he had both feet on the ground, the next he was 30 feet in the air, perched on top of Prixlezub's horns. "Aaah..." He whimpered nervously, clinging onto the horns at Prixlezub's warning. They were going to go fast, weren't they?! So fast! Except...nope. As Prixlezub lumbered away, his pace was slow. Kev's grip relaxed and he tilted his head back slightly, feeling the breeze wash over him.

"This isn't so ba-aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!" His voice escalated as the demon took off like a shot very suddenly, clinging with both arms and legs to Prixlezub's horns as he felt the air slap around them, the sights around them a mere blur from their fast motion. He let out a brief whine and closed his eyes, leaning his head towards Prixlezub's horn. If he had a mouth, he'd probably be nauseous. Thanks to the demon's speed though, it didn't take long at all for them to reach the cottage, and soon Kev was shakily making his way down from his horns. "Nnn...that was...fun." He said weakly, making his way to the side of the cottage, where a nice collection of chopped wood awaited them both.

"Here we are! Now, how to transport them back without burning them..." His...'idea' of a bag was probably not very effective. Before he could start grabbing up some wood though, he tilted his head and turned back to the wooded area. It sounded like...yelling. It sounded like...Jo? "Do you hear that, Prixlezub?" He couldn't make out what she was yelling, but he could hear the yells! Hope there wasn't a masked murderer out there!

Were you enjoying the ride, Kev? The demon prince surely was. Smoke billowed from his grill and past his horns as his running speed quickly escalated into the triple digits. Dirt and grass were quickly burned black and tilled into wide pools of molten earth, illuminating Prixlezub's trail as he quickly approached the cottage on the horizon. The alien's mental scream did not go unheard, the demon prince cracking a wry grin as he started to slow down to a trot. Head held aloft proudly, the crimson demon made his way to the bushier side of the house, a plume of smoke puffing from his maw in an amused chuckle. "I'm glad you enjoyed the ride." He rumbled, gently leaning his head down to allow Kev his dismount. Though it seemed the prince had went the wrong way, as the alien decided to go to the other side. Very well, the prince had wondered if Kev was going to vomit, or if he even could for that matter... But perhaps not. So the bushes were unneeded after all.

Prixlezub waited patiently as the green alien went to gather wood, his claws being of no use with such flammable materials. Though the alien did bring up a good point, he could not help but wonder if Kev had anything in the first place for carrying it if he used the wood for his own fires. "Do you not have a yoke, Kev? It looks like a large sling and is specially made for carrying wood." He suggested, looking over the roof to see how Kev was faring. That is, until he heard something in the distance. The demon turned his head towards the sound, his glowing eyes intensifying to a burning yellow to pick up what was going on in the fading light. Perhaps if they were close enough they would be illuminated in the demon's glowing eyesight as well, the demon's eyes tended to take on the effect of headlamps in the dark. Prixlezub detected the two life energy readings of the mechanic and her alien companion, the reflection of Lawrence's paneling in the low light and a reading of something quite small, like the noise it made.

"What did you three find? I thought you were supposed to gather rocks and sticks!" The demon inquired loudly, the glow of his maw burning through the dark as he spoke. Though his lip quirked slightly as his tone turned a bit more playful. "Do you need a fourth to find the rocks and not the wildlife?"

The prince turned his gaze back to the green alien for a moment, lessening the glare of his eyes to their usual fiery glow. "Do not worry, Kev. I suggest you find the firewood. I expect the three of them to be able to handle what lurks in the grass." He rumbled to Kev reassuringly before turning his gaze back to the three. While the demon was vigilant in his own right, he was more curious as to what they had found instead of any true concern. If it did turn out to be something more on the other hand... Well the night would surely have gotten interesting quick, now wouldn't it.

Lawrence wrote: "Oh, but that shamelessness of yours is part of your charm . . . it can be one of your more endearing qualities at times."
Jo wrote:""Careful not to overclock yourself; we're out in the middle of nowhere~!"
"..." Suddenly, it was like a gazelle in a den of lions.

Zurg tugged on his shirt's collar and was grateful that no one could see his face darken. How embarrassing! "E-Er, right! It's the thought that counts," he agreed. The monarch did have to meow when Jo called him Cat-Eyes, however. "I know that it's better to get you a monthly dose of chocolate than to risk my chances, Jo." Doho, so shameless. And what about his hopping!? Being barefoot hurt when you stepped on sharp, unknown things. Speaking of unknown, Jo had managed to find something. While Lawrence was a good fellow and discovered rocks, Jo... sadly discovered something else.

Jo and Find wrote:"Heeeeey, I think I found more rocks over here, you -- "

    "Hssssssskikikik!"

    " -- guYSAHGHAGHOHCOSMOSSOMETHINGMOVED!"
Wow, what a noisy racket. Zurg looked up from his searching and really shouldn't have. Why? Because Jo came bolting over to him and crawled up his back! "OW, hey! Jo, watch the merchandise!" She was tugging on his cheeks! His poor, sensitive cheeks! The monarch winced beneath his veil and tried his hardest to pry Jo's rigid hands off his face. "Jo, you ninny - there isn't anything out here that will harm you, I promise. Now, do you mind?" He wasn't a totem pole, woman! If she squeezed her legs any tighter then the monarch was probably going to pass a little wind, if you know what I mean.

For the sake of everyone and his pride, we don't want that.

But now that Jo had found something... Zurg was a bold fellow - bold enough to walk over to the site of interest and go snooping around. With what instrument, you may ask? Why, his feet! Using anything else would take far too much sense, of course. So off he went, Jo on his back like a big baby, while he brushed his toes against the cool grass. After several moments of finding nothing, his curiosity wound up lost and Zurg shook his head so that Jo knew everything was all right. "Whatever you found is long gone," he said. "No doubt your girlish shrieking scared it off more than it scared you~!" Hopefully they wouldn't be having any more surprises like this one while asleep later on... Actually, hold onto that thought. A sudden bright light illuminated the field and Zurg immediately turned away, hissing in pain. "Ow, ow, ow... bright light, bright light!" It must have come from Prixlezub, for the demon rumbled loudly across the distance.

Prixlezub wrote:"What did you three find? I thought you were supposed to gather rocks and sticks!"

    Demanding, wasn't he?

Prixlezub again wrote:"Do you need a fourth to find the rocks and not the wildlife?"

That does it. Zurg, being himself what else, turned around with a hand shielding his eyes and issued a loud retort of his own.

"OH, I HAVE YOUR ROCKS RIGHT HERE, PRIXLEZUB. THEY'RE BIG, ROUND, PURPLE AND YOU'LL HAVE TO SCOOP THEM OUT."

Please don't, not really. Zurg rather liked his innards where they were. The monarch turned back around, eyes clearly watery with pain, and he tried his hardest to look down at Lawrence with a glossy gaze. "Lawrence, since my vision is now shot, can you please pick up a few rocks? Hand them to me should your hands be filled - even give some to Jo. It's not like any extra weight on my back will do worse." Jo, you were a heavy rock.

Somehow, Lawrence managed to keep from sputtering in embarrassment at Jo's comment. Overclocking? Really now? He might sometimes get slightly overheated at certain strong emotions, but still...

Lawrence bent to scoop up some of those rocks he found, but had to quickly step aside as Jo shrieked at something and went running to climb Zurg. He did hear that noise, but hadn't thought of it as anything harmful. He used his sensors to scan and confirmed it, it was only some sort of small animal, which went scurrying off in the opposite direction. "Oh, come now, it was likely only a field mouse, or perhaps a groundhog. It was more frightened of you than you were of it, considering how quickly it disappeared from my sensor range."

Unfortunately, it turned out Prixlezub had also heard the commotion and shone his eyelights in their direction. Lawrence hissed faintly out of surprise rather than pain as said light pretty much turned his vision into a white blaze, but his night vision system turned itself off before any damage was caused. He rolled his optics at Zurg's shameless answering bellow to Prix's, and then called out himself. "We are quite all right; Jo merely discovered some harmless wildlife, which ran in the other direction. We can take care of this ourselves."

Having said that, Lawrence turned his night vision back on once the lights from Prixlezub's eyes aimed in another direction, and he glanced to Zurg. "All right, considering I am the only one who can see at the moment, I do not mind."

With that he went back to gathering rocks, taking one load and giving them to Zurg and Jo, and then grabbing more to carry himself. "I think that should be plenty..."

Ooh... There were plenty of ways Jo could, you know, spill the lunar beans about what happened during Ra Moon's little tantrum. Knowing Big Z, however, the mechanic knew better than to go airing their personal laundry. He didn't appreciate that. "Eh, I can't really fuss about the world not ending overnight or some nasty egotist trying to subjugate the populace," Jo shrugged. "I'm just glad it's work, work, work. Nothing like doing a few repairs! And maybe you can try the s'mores tonight?" Jo brought pleeeeeenty of marshmallows, don't you worry a single scale off your head.

After a quick flash to the present and about -100 to her pride, Jo huffed indignantly while clutching Big Z. "You would freak out too if your toes found something soft and furry in the dark." Who tripped on the cat a few days ago?

But it was rather nice up here, seeing the world through the eyes of a giant. Hey, it was true. Jo was at least a good foot shorter than Big Z and that made for some awkward scenarios in her mind. "Sorry, but I'm not getting back on the ground when I can't see for squat. Big Z, your merchandise? Yeah, it can wait. Your face is really soft, by the way~!" Tug, tug, tug. And what's that about a girlish shriek? Pinch! Lawrence, don't you start. Jo may not be able to pinch your cheeks but you can bet she'll find a -- whoa, what is that loud rumble from the distance? Jo cupped a hand to her ear and blinked. "...Hey! I can find wildlife just fine, thank you." Just not stick or stones at the moment. It was good to know that Prixlezub's range of hearing was phenomenal, just like someone else she knew. And, wouldn't you know it, that someone else was also fairly... loud.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa...!" Jo flinched and ended up tapping Big Z on the head. "Hey, what about your precious merchandise, remember? You're causing my bones to rattle! Also, did you know that when you speak so loudly your body kinda... vibrates? Yeah, it feels really weird and slightly embarrassing now that I said this out loud." ...Oops. Jo felt a little red to the face but she quickly regained composure.

And she did this by sitting up tall, once again feigning a haughty air. "Prixlezub, Lawrence; make of that what you will. I, meanwhile, will be taking my Zurgythingy steed to the fire pit." You know what this means? Jo held out her hands and lightly smacked Big Z on his shoulders. "Yipp, yipp!"

Look, rocks! Even more reason to return to camp, eh eh eh? And... purple rocks? Jo scrunched up her nose and decided she didn't want to know. Not this time.

Sometimes laundry was better kept away until it could be cleaned and put away. Besides, Kev might not be the best person to tell something like that. "Happy to hear things have been going well in the shop!" It was never fun to have no business, even moreso if the shop was your baby like Jo's shop was. As for trying s'mores... "Maybe! I wouldn't mind at all~!" So long as it wasn't too hot! And lo, back to the present!

Despite being weak in the knees, Kev still managed to chuckle back at Prixlezub. "It was definitely something else. Right up there next to X'Ki and portkey." He had been grabbing one log at a time, stacking them to the side to carry later, when Prixlezub mentioned the magic word. Yoke. Yoke.

    Ffwap.

That was the sound of Kev's palm smacking his forehead. "Of course, the yoke! I usually just carry these logs in, one at a time, but a yoke, of course! You're a genius!" He stacked the logs up in two piles of four. While he stacked though, it seems Prixlezub had indeed heard it as well, since he soon called out to them. The voice that called back was undeniably Zurg's, and Kev shook his head, snickering.

"Alright, Prixlezub! I've got about eight logs of firewood here, that's probably as much as I can carry even with the yoke. Speaking of the yoke, I shall return!" Kev gave the demon a brief salute before he skedaddled into the cottage. He walked fast, and quiet, hoping not to disturb the moon fae woman that was still inside and possibly asleep. Up in his room, mounted on the wall was a very specific yoke with hand-carved markings on it. Sheep, a llama, a dog, and even Kev and Leslie were on it.  Kev also grabbed some rope and ran back outside.

"Not much longer, Prixlezub! Hopefully their search for rocks and sticks is going well!" He tied each pile of logs together to keep them a bundle, before attaching each one to an end of the yoke and placing the yoke upon his shoulders. "Ready when you are~!" This time, he'd also be ready for the speeds that Prixlezub could travel to.
