    Nothing to see here.

There had been rumors about Lochlann for some time now. The ISO's had released a warning to all of the citizens of Portal City to avoid the area, they warned of some sort of plague. Those that went past near Lochlann also spoke of something odd, how the place seemed dark and just all sorts of queer. There was one other thing as well, the ones known as the "Equalists" run by "Amon". It had been suspected that the group had set up somewhere near Lochlann, however, the group had not been seen for months now and the quarantine on the area remained.

It was a curious thing for sure, and curiosity killed the cat.

However, satisfaction could bring it back.

Bloodscream minded his step as he entered into the Lochlann vicinity. Odd how the air seemed thicker, the sky slightly darker. What would the other find? It was hard to say, and there could be no telling if it would be at all satisfying. Still, better to look and find nothing, than not look and miss something interesting.

With the cat, came the dog who was not nearly as satisfied with any of this. Cailia tagging along with Bloodscream because it was quite dangerous to wander off alone in a zone that was held with so much caution now. What a sickly looking place it was turning out to be too. That heavy oppressive air, the uncharacteristic darkness was either a case of freak weather or something far worse. Frowning, she rested her a hand on either hip and looked out over the surroundings. It wasn't all too surprising that this place would be a target for something like this, it was so secluded and undisturbed by outsiders who lingered more in the safe confines of the city. Her tongue clicked against her teeth thoughtfully regarding the probability of monsters slithering out for a fight.

She stepped forward, a hand going absently to readjust the strap of her swords sheath as she gave Bloodscream a wide grin."Soooo, honey...What are we looking for? Bodies? Creepy crawlies? Or are we sight-seeing?" Whether he liked it or not, the hybrid was along for the ride partially hoping to any sort of payoff. Surely there would be some loot or rare artifacts ripe for the taking. Looking to the immortal she awaited for the no doubt snark laden retort he was so fond of dishing out. "In any case, why don't you lead the way~?" After you, servant of the Dread Lord~

    Two brave souls go in...
    "Hrrrrrgh..."
    ...but will they come out?

Lord Diablo was very aware that trespassers, two in number, had come upon its land. A man and a woman; neither typical to journey through these quiet lands, for one possessed a blade's unmistakable glint. The other was of a much cooler desposition, aloof and ever observant. These qualities mattered not as the demon stirred from its pit, believing to be in the presence of such refined company: mercenaries. Travelers... How quaint, it quietly whispered. Why had they come and for what possible motive? There was nothing of value here. Thinking, the Lord of Hell elegantly strode up from within the catacomb's depths as its serpentine tail swished behind. If I am to have guests then I must play the part of a most generous host, Diablo mentally ascertained. But how to do so?

The demon was neither here nor there; instead it proceeded to stop mid-gait and growl. Ah yes... What manners would it have if it revealed the truth so early? Diablo allowed its posture to slightly hunch forward, the demon's massive frame sagging. No, no; it must continue to learn as much as it could about its latest visitors. It was only befitting of a benevolent entertainer such as itself.

    "Caw, caw!"
    Quoth the raven, nevermore...

Several large, black birds flitted about the village; every single one kept a watchful eye upon both man and woman.

Cailia was the dog to Bloodscreams cat was she? My, how fitting.

"Soooo, honey...What are we looking for? Bodies? Creepy crawlies? Or are we sight-seeing?"

If it had been in character for Bloodscream to roll his eyes he would have. Instead he met Cailia's words with aloof silence. "Caw! Caw!" The immortal turned an eye to the bird. Of course, such carrion eaters would live in a dismal place such as this.

A constable? An unkindness? Or a Conspiracy?

Which did yonder black birds represent?

"In any case, why don't you lead the way~?"

Bloodscream did not bring up the fact that he had already been leading the way. Instead he simply continued to walk on, mindful of his footing. Twas my understanding that a settlement stood somewhere in this area. Tis best to keep thine eyes out for it. As well as anything that could be a possible threat.

Bloodscream removed a small sealed vial from his belt and knelt to the ground, he uncapped the vial with a twist. The immortal dug into the earth, pulling away dirt and grass which he placed inside the small container before resealing it. Perhaps by looking at this some light would be brought to the rumors of what this "plague" was.

    Arf Arf, babycakes.

Not surprised by Bloodscream's lack of reaction to her jabs, a very typical thing for the immortal barkeep to operate. Oh boy this promised to be an outing full to the brim with fun and excitement. Sighing theatrically, she paused staring at the source of noise provided by the ever watching feathered ones. "Well, look at that. Scavengers." Bird were just birds afterall, expected to be some wildlife here although why they would like such a dank place was beyond her. Maybe they had found a nice little stock pile of animal carcasses to feast upon.

Keeping instep next to Bloodscream, she gave a slight roll of the eyes as he knelt to play in the dirt for a moment. All the nice dirt that was in the city and he had to check out this dirt, he needed a better hobby. Needlepoint would be more his speed. "A settlement? Hmmm, well I can't think of why someone would want to build here. I mean the locale is rather...you know. Dismal." Scratching at her chin thoughtfully, Cailia continued to walk forward. They weren't going to get to this settlement by standing about and digging, now would they? "Better shake a leg, see if we can chat up some locals~" Where there were people, there was information was there?

Dirt? You came here to collect dirt? How... mundane. But if memory served correct...
Now I see... You seek not questions but answers," thought Diablo. Could it be that the main population was now aware of Lochlann's fate? It was possible if two mercenaries had come to collect samples. But no mere mortal will ever be satisfied with mere specimens alone. If you give a man a taste of temptation... The demon stirred, emotion betwixt of both amusement and irritation. Letting these trespassers roam free begged the possibility of being discovered ahead of schedule, but if it intervened... I will be had either way, Diablo realized. Which path seemed more appetizing? Decisions, decisions...

But a grin slowly crept upward upon the demon's face, the Lord of Hell pleased about something unspoken. I suppose toying with their minds will satiate my thirst. They have come to me unwittingly and such an opportune chance must not be allowed to slip away... Yes, I think I shall partake in their untimely company.
There were no angels here; especially that niggling menace, Imperius. What did it have to fear? Diablo lifted up a claw and beckoned to the void before it, wanting the mortals to come hither.

Lead them, my pets... Lead them closer to me...
The crows faithfully complied, hopping around the two strangers before flapping away in a burst of black. They were flying toward the village. Will you follow, children of whim?

"Better shake a leg, see if we can chat up some locals~"

If there are any to chat up. Bloodscream reminded the woman. No one had come out of Lochlann in months, and no on had been to Lochlann in months. There always was the chance that the settlement could be completely independent...

But Bloodscream doubted they would find many people, if any at all. The ISO's had told people to stay out, there had to be a reason to that yes?

It may be wiser to return to the city. Yes, it wasn't wise to tempt fate after all. Especially when they had no idea what they were getting into. It just wasn't smart to walk blind into a room that could be filled with bear traps, or worse. Bloodscream looked behind him, back in the direction of the city, if they started walking now it would take them, perhaps about four hours-

The immortals thoughts were cut off as crows, oh how lovely, a Murder, began hopping around them before taking flight again. Tis odd indeed. Bloodscream said, eyeing the direction in which the birds went. His eyes slid over to Cailia from behind his glasses, waiting for her opinion.

Did they go or did they turn around and leave?

A small snort escaped from woman, finding the chances of no one at the settlement extremely slim. It looked like she was going to be the small ray of optimism in this duo, or at least the continuing thorn in Bloodscream's side. "Tsk, tsk, tsk!" She wagged a finger at the immortal paired with a wink. Now, now Honey! As if people would just up and vanish just because the place has hit the shitter~!" Considering the quality of life around here, can't imagine how abysmal the property worth for the little lake place was give the current situation it was in. And return to the city already, but mooooom! Were you serious? After they had gotten the whole way out here, she herself wasn't leaving until proper compensation was ushered out. "Ah, don't get cold feet now. Isn't your nearly dried up sense of curiosity eating away? Plus, it would be stupid to come out here and not take a visit. But if you are scared, you can meander back to the city." However, she was going to get some exploring done.

Cailia watched the murder fly away, taking a moment to look at Bloodscream before cracking a wide grin."Well, looks like we should make like those birds~!" The opinion stated clearly, she was off tailing the recently departed crows cheerily. "Hooooi! Don't fall behind~!" Seemed like now she was leading the way for once.

Eh? Hit the shitter...? What strange dialect these mortals speak. This hardly mattered, however. Both man and woman were of the mind to stay. Good, very good. Indeed, why come all the way out here, in the midst of nowhere, only to return without seeing the main event? Unless, of course, mercenaries were simply not trained as they used to be... A pity.

Yes, follow the crows. The crows knew where to go.
They flew to the humble village of Lochlann, where modest fishermen and country folk lived. It was a place of hard work and communal satisfaction, but none of this will be seen today. It was gloomy and cold, the breeze off the nearby lake bitter. There was hardly a soul out and mere beasts roamed. A city filled with nothing more than starving, feeble dogs. Many were much too weak to even growl but some were more daring; they raised their hackles at the trespassers and kept to their precarious packs. Nothing came of these displays of aggression. Do you admire how silent this village was, travelers? Was this not interesting enough for you? Or would you appreciate how it smelled of the dead, where skeletons of decayed fish lay strewn about upon all the piers? If this was to be a fishing village, then know that the last catch to be brought to market happened months ago. There was nothing alive here.

    "Caw, caw, caw!"
Your feathery guides were now situated on the nearby rooftops, eyes strong upon you both. In silence the crows watched; in silence the crows laughed. Go on, go on. What were you afraid of? There was clearly no one here. What fear have you in a ghost town? You were all alone... All alone and far, far away from any help should you ever need of it.

Jingle, jingle! Do you hear it? That was the sound of a small, cheerful bell. And the owner of such a lively sound was now sitting quietly before you. A lone black cat, with fur shined and dense, sat in the midst of the road. Its eyes were golden-yellow and that was all you could distinguished. "Caw, caw, caw!" Again the crows watched; again the crows laughed. They flew off in a spiral of death, circling several times before dispersing further within the unsettling village. But the cat?

The cat remained and, with tail twitching ever so playfully, it purred loudly to itself.
    "Rrrgh, rrgh, rrgh..."

Bloodscream chose to ignore Miss Hallow's vulgarity, some things could just not be changed after all.

"Ah, don't get cold feet now. Isn't your nearly dried up sense of curiosity eating away? Plus, it would be stupid to come out here and not take a visit. But if you are scared, you can meander back to the city."

Curiosity, had he not considered previously what happened to the cat? Revival was only assured if satisfaction was found, however, Bloodscream was hardly the timid sort. Tis caution, not cowardice. T'would be foolish to enter into a place such as this without some caution.

The pale man followed the other until the village was reach. The scent of rot and filth was strong to Bloodscreams nose. He gave the mangy canines only the most passing glance. Such creatures, even if pushed by their hunger to attack would be easily disposed of in their weak state.

Caw, caw, caw! The eaters of the dead called from the safety of their rotting perches before falling silent. A weight settled upon Bloodscreams broad shoulders, these birds and this place, it was all unnatural. It screamed of a-

    Jingle, jingle!

    "Rrrgh, rrgh, rrgh..."

The crows gave another cry and dispersed, leaving Bloodscream and his companion alone with this newest face. Bloodscream eyed the creature from behind the dark lenses of his sunglasses. Of all the things that seemed unnatural about this place, this creature seemed by far the most unnatural of all. This cat did not seem to be dying as the dogs in the city, in fact it seemed quite content, purring at them. Yes it was true, cat's were independent creatures, able to keep themselves fed. But it seemed well taken care of, it's coat shiny and thick despite it's surroundings.

Bloodscreams mouth drew into a thin line, the only sign of his displeasure. As he had been thinking before.

    A trap.

Well Miss Hallow? Thou wished to question the denizens of this settlement. Bloodscream motioned to the feline, And here seems to be the only living one. Shall thou question it? Or should I? The immortal asked her dryly.

"Oh come on! Where is the sense of adventure? The thrill? The excitement?" Her vulgarity was sometimes one of her most favorite trait, mostly because it made most too awkward to be around her. Or stutter they begun to stutter like bumbling idiots, words slipping and sliding out of them like vile. Too bad Bloodscream wasn't like those blathering boobs, might make being in his company on more 'serious' excursions."Tchsk! Fine, we'll go with caution, Mumsy." A glance over her shoulder was cast, seeing if any reaction was going to be raised from her counter part, a long shot by far but you could never be too sure. Speaking of things hitting the shitter, the rank foul odor that emanated from the village fliped the contents of her stomach right over. Waving a hand in front of her face while she walked squinting at the mangy mongrels watching them she had to admit that the Pale man was right.

    As usual. Of course.

Cailia squinted up at the noisy feathered beasts, then placed her hands by defult on her hips. Bloodscream was silent, much like this town and frankly she liked noise, preferably people talking, walking and moving. Perking up at the sound of jingling, there was a small hope that there was person other than themselves out and about. Except, people didn't purr, at least not as far as she knew. So that meant only one thing; cats. She wasn't particularly fond of them, more a canine person herself. Now why was this little thing all in the rights while the dogs were dying. Irony wuld be if the cat was the cause of it all, plague of the devil cat. Frowing at Bloodscream's remark about her wish for a living being had come true, she waved him off flippantly before giving her answer. "You can do it. I'd rather not go towards the thing that isn't dying. Plus, you are much more durable than I, sweetheart." Go on, immortal and allow Cailia to watch as you went to give the Kitty-Kat a few petties and see if you still retained a hand after wards.

Caution was a good survival instinct to own. A pity that these two were taking their sweet, sweet time in deciding what to do. So much bickering for naught... The cat licked its paw and went about cleaning itself, content and oblivious to anything surrounding it. It was truly a cat, removed from all concern. But like a cat it did not have all day to simply sit about and wait for people to come toward it. The purring omen got up from its hindquarters and gave itself a hearty shake, collar loudly jingling. Oh, did you like the scarecrow up yonder? Children had such fanciful imaginations.

    "Mew!"
The cat released a high-pitched squeak at its guests, tail swaying lethargically. Still the two stood there, thinking of what to do? Were these mercenaries or were these Barbarians? It perhaps posed no immediate attention what they were; the cat had spent enough time preening and was soon off. It already had what it wanted. It went behind a building and down an alley, were neither man nor woman would have any sight of it. They most likely didn't bother to give chase, as they were much more occupied bantering with themselves what to do. There will be something shortly. Tap, tap, tap! Something made a sound; could it be footfalls? It came from the left and was closely approaching. Would the two take interest? Quick! Something darted between buildings at alarming speeds!

    A flash of red.
    Jet-black hair.
    Strange claws.
    A man.

In one of the crevices, between a closed bakery and decrepit tavern, the man paused halfway in his run and stood in the midst of the cobblestone road. He must have spotted the two mercenaries, for his lone eye narrowed and he grunted something inaudible. As quickly as he had paused, he just as quickly took off. It appeared that the cat was not the only thing alive in this haunted village.

Always the witty one weren't you miss Hallow? Unfortunately your snark and the presence of the cat was just enough to keep Bloodscream from doing anything other than simply glance over the scarecrow in the distance. Not that there would have been much to do other than glance at it. After all, it was a scarecrow in a garden, that was where it was suppose to be.

With a mew the cat left them in the company of only themselves. Well, that encounter had been all kinds of odd, and Bloodscream was beginning to feel as if they had outstayed their welcome. There was obviously no one left alive, and the samples they had taken could well indeed provide enough answers for them.

    Best to leave now.

Ah, but what was this noise now? The sound of footsteps? Could they have in fact been wrong, was someone truly alive in this dismal place? Whoever it was moved quickly in between the buildings. Bloodscream's hand went to his weapon, prepared.

Red and black, the glint of metal, a patch.

    Mr. Patch.

    Wolverine

    Logan

Bloodscream's hand gripped his weapon tightly as adrenaline shot through his ancient body. After all of these years, he had never thought that the other would ever be seen again. And yet there he was, his age long enemy, the one that had gutted him, removed his hands, tore him apart countless times as they battled. The one he had pursued for the longest time in hopes of finding the key to breaking his curse, and he was RIGHT.THERE.

You. He hissed between his teeth quietly, a deep frown setting heavily upon his face. Before he could say anything else the other was off as quickly as he had appeared. Bloodscream jumped as if to pursue, but years of training and his control stopped him short. No, something was not right.

Why would Logan, run from Him when he had proven countless times before that he could best the immortal. Even if he did not want anything to do with the immortal, Logan was not the type to run away. And now that he was thinking about it... The clothes he wore, that patch. Bloodscream had not seen that eye patch since he had met the other in Madripore twenty years ago. In fact, the entire outfit was like call to a time long since passed.

It was as if the other had been pulled straight from his very memories of their meeting. No, this was odd, and yet despite it's oddity Bloodscream found himself wanting to pursue none the less. To find Logan and shake answers out of his body, possibly any of his organs as well. But, no...

Bloodscream would not, WOULD NOT, drag Miss Hallow into this. Not when they were on the job. He was a professional, and he was on the clock, and that meant that his own petty revenge would have to wait.

But it would not wait for long...

He would return, and find Logan, and possibly tear him from limb. Oh yes, that sounded nice.

We should leave. The sun will soon be setting, there is no one here, and we have what we came for. Art thou coming or not? Bloodscream turned to Cailia, well? What would it be? Were you coming or not Miss Hallow?

Look at that cat, so smug. Going on about like any other. She still didn't like cats. Moving on from that she sighed taking her eyes off the cat who decided it had about enough of them and padded off to its own devices. Good. No need for a critter like that to be lurking on around here. Aside from the distraction of the cat had passed this place once more resumed its rather dead disposition. "Isn't this just dandy..." Now she was stuck all alone with Bloodscream.

    Oh boy.

Letting out a lengthy sigh she looked pointedly to Bloodscream, looking to him as what the next move should be since he was so keen on being cautious. Her head cocked to the side at the sound of...foot falls? Someone was alive?! Well, it could be something given the ill that hung about the air. Squinting towards the source, the hybrid wasn't so sure she was liking what was sprinting about far too fast. Clueless to who was approaching them, Cailia turned to Bloodscream who uttered only the word 'you'. "What? Your hot date or something, Sweetheart?" Here she thought women were Bloodscream's preferred type of living being, guess she thought wrong then. Carefully regarding the immortal who seemed to be under some sort of duress over the mere sight of the elusive man. How odd, she always figured him to be more or less unmovable in his emotions. This newest development was particularly fascinating in her view but here in this place she didn't want to start anything with the Immortal that she couldn't finish.

Wait. Leave? Well now, that was not going to fly with her. "Leave? We haven't even explored! Plus what about our secret admirer? Is the great stoic Bloodscream really going to chicken out?" Her hadns found their way to rest easily on her hips."Hm! You can go, I'll just stay and explore around some more." And that was final, she wasn't going nowhere without a little more information.

Do you feel that, Bloodscream? Do you feel that wonderful sensation coursing through your veins? That was the mark of excitement; anxiety! For all your ethereal cavalcade you were just like the rest; prone to bouts of mortal emotion. You wanted Logan, this Wolverine, didn't you? Your existence ran in tandem with his and here is your one, last chance to know peace... Are you going to let it slip through your spindly fingers? This could be the very final encounter you may ever have the fortune of crossing. Was your ethical code held in such high-esteem as to forsake your one, true desire? Miss Hallow was of much better spirits than you, ghoul.

But she, too, will be made to suffer; for suffering need not be painful or excruciating.
Suffering, at its finest, was an art; a trade. Watching you feel conflicted was desirable, Bloodscream. Without word you suffered within, where your inner beast wanted release. Would it be too much trouble to let it out for once? You could do for some fun... Whereas you were haunted by a hound of worlds past, Miss Hallow's suffering remained grounded. Both of you were painfully easy tomes to read and now it was time to finally turn the page...

    Clink, clink, clink!
Do you hear it? It comes for you...

Gone was the one-eyed man, replaced by a stout suit of armor. This was not just any suit of armor, however. His name will be familiar to you, Miss Hallow, but most had come to refer to him simply as... Number 66. What was he to you? The armor quietly stood there, down the lone alleyway and left to stare at the both of you with those clueless, dull red eyes. His eyes flickered once, where they rested once upon the female mercenary and did not waver. "..."

Would you care to regale your partner with history, Miss Hallow?
Or will you, too, succumb to internal suffering... Either way, the crows eagerly looked forward to your reaction.
