    A Different Kind Of Magic

Post by Homura Akemi on Sat Jan 19, 2013 4:45 pm

    Time: 7:15 PM
    Date: 19th January, 2013

Homura sat. She sat in the Fight Club in the same position that she had been sat for a good few minutes now. She naturally had arrived to the Stadium earlier than she had planned this session. It wouldn't do to be tardy, because she was the one that had planned it. She wasn't the type of person that tended to be late to things, let alone events that she had told another person to be there for at a certain time. If Princess Eloara had arrived there and found Homura not waiting for her, it would have just been plain embarrassing. If you thought about it, it was kind-of fitting, wasn't it? The magical girl with time powers was never late to her appointments unless something MADE her late. Even then, it would have to be pretty serious to make her late. It would have to be something like a Witch appearing to fight her, herself seeing a calamity about to happen and stepping out to prevent it, or something else similar to those types of things.

On a related note, Homura wouldn't mind if Eloara was late. Just so long as she showed up. If she didn't show up, Homura would probably go and find her. Not to make her stop whatever she was doing and head there, but to ask why she wasn't there. But with certainty that Eloara would show up, Homura had filled the guns she was going to use with blanks (in case she needed to use them) and had gotten ready for the session, which was planned to be a combat training session. It would most likely just be a spar, however. Nothing like good old bonding over fists. Kyoko and Sayaka had technically done it in that last timeline, even if it was intended to be a battle to the death.

    "..."

Homura sat there, silent as she watched the sky turn progressively darker even than it had been before as the day really did draw to a close. She could see no stars tonight, just a large stratospheric cloud as the weather threatened to turn cold and bad. It could start snowing at any time, so hopefully Eloara was wrapped up because Homura most definitely was not! She had no spare clothes because unsurprisingly, she hadn't expected to be abducted through a portal on that day; her clothes were at her house along with all the monitors she was using to plan for Walpurgis and the map she'd been using to track what she expected Walpurgis' route through Mitakihara City to be.

    "...?"

Homura looked down again as she heard a noise. Homura assumed it to be Eloara, as no-one else really had a reason to be out this night. Not as far as Homura knew, anyway. It was far too cold and the risk of snow was too great. If Eloara didn't want to stay for long, she would try and keep it as short as possible. Homura Akemi had a cold personality, but she was not that cruel. Not cruel enough to force someone to stay against their will. She did, however, hope that Eloara was up for a full spar, at least. If this was the way to regain power, she wanted to regain as much as can before the time came where she'd need to go out and hunt Witches again for more Grief Seeds.

She waited, in case this really was Princess Eloara.

That noise was indeed Eloara, off in the distance, dispersing a little bit of make-shift magic she'd conjured up to protect herself against the cold. Her outfit, though regal, lacked any sort of protection from the cold. In fact, with her arms and legs mostly exposed, she was quite vulnerable to it. But since the cold environment of winter would not let up any time soon, she had to figure out an alternative that would keep her warm but not clash with her dress. Yes, this was the reason she would not wear a coat. For fashions sake. Still, her alternative had proven to be effective - a light atmospheric shield surrounding her. Using her magic, she had encapsulated a bubble of warmth around her, one that would not allow simple snow and cold winds to bypass. Simple magic put to use in effective ways. When she reached the stadium, she dispersed the magic, creating an audible magical sound.

To Eloara, this challenge seemed more like mutual gain rather than an opportunity to bond. It was true for anything, not just this world, that power improved with combat experience. To spar with willing partners was just one step on the way to achieving that experience. But this girl she would be battling with, Homura. Eloara saw no intent on becoming friendly with her, nor did she intend to see any hostility either. The magical girl's completely neutral attitude had warranted an equal response. You couldn't become friends with someone who was entirely closed off, after all...

As she entered the fight club, the Aetherian Princess gave a polite nod in the direction of Homura.

"Homura." she said simply, removing the sling that both her sword and spear were attached to. Placing this sling down on a bench, she then removed the pouch that contained the Great Aether Crystal. As long as all of these were close by, she wouldn't have to worry, but the weapons... she had no intent on using them. After all, this was a spar. Down and dirty, like an old friend used to call it. Though she would need to use her magic to compensate for physical weakness, she would still keep to simple close quarters techniques. She hoped Homura would also. With her equipment placed down neatly, she turned back to face her prospective opponent.

    "Are you ready?"

Mutual gain could be considered one of the reasons Homura had arranged this spar. I mean, she needed to regain her power desperately. To fall to the first Witch she finds due to not having trained and being too weak would not be a very dignified end, nor would it be satisfactory for Homura. She wanted to be able to kick the asses of all the Witches she came across, so that she would be able to continue on in this new world, hoping for Madoka Kaname to arrive so that she could be with her very best friend again. She'd honestly give anything to have Madoka here with her, because during the times that Homura herself had been new at something, in a new world (the world of the magical girls was on Earth, but it was totally different to the world that the humans were in) Madoka and at least Mami had been there to help her. She didn't necessarily need help now, but Madoka being here would be perfect for her.

Now, to say that Homura was completely closed off from everyone wasn't necessarily true. She would probably just make conversation while she fought. I mean, in a friendly (more or less) spar like this, just attacking while not talking would seem a bit... awkward. I mean, Homura's social situations were usually awkward anyway, so it wouldn't matter to her. But Eloara was one of the other girls here with magic... and a different type to the magical girl magic that all magical girls from her world had had, too. The fact that she didn't need to maintain or even own a soul gem in order to use her magic was a plus and yet it was a downside for her. It was a plus because she didn't need to worry about magic limits, nor did she have the fate that all magical girls had, Homura included; becoming a Witch. It was a downside because her soul was in her body, and even though it turned you into what was essentially a zombie, there was no arguing that it was a handy way to fight. I mean, you didn't have to worry about your body being damaged, so long as you had a soul gem. Kyubey was an asshole that was evil as hell, but he did have a good point there.

"Eloara." Homura returned the greeting with her usual lack of emotion. When Eloara put down her weapons though, Homura spoke up. "You can use your weapons. I'd prefer it if you did." She honestly wanted a full-power battle between magical girls. She knew she could take it, and this had to be a better way to get stronger. "I have pistols filled with blanks, so they won't be anything near lethal. If you would prefer I did not use them, then I won't. I can't drop them all on the ground because I have far too many." She finished her sentence with true-spoken genuine honesty.

When Eloara asked whether Homura was ready, she nodded slightly. If you got to know her, she stopped being AS STOIC as she usually was. Yes, she was capable of smiling~. Even if it was only rarely, with her friends, she was indeed capable of smiling and positive emotion. Hell, her emotions had been all over the place until she'd used her magic to calm them down and become as expressionless as she usually was.

She was ready when you were, Princess.

Eloara gave a brief glance behind her, towards her stash of weapons on the bench. Though her expression still remained neutral, she felt awkward about this scenario. The weapons that she had noticed on Homura's person were guns. Those were still a relatively new weapon to her, but one old friend of hers had made use of such firearms in combat. They were deadly, but required precision in acquiring hits and had a limited life span in the form of ammunition. Homura appeared to be loaded with such weapons, all different shapes and sizes, leaving Eloara worried about what it was she might have been facing. But she had stated that her weapons were loaded with 'blanks', rendering them mostly harmless for the sake of the spar. As for Eloara's weapons... she was unable to do such a thing. The Aeternalis Sword and the Mage Spear, both of them would default to being deadly purely by being in her hands. Both of those weapons were designed to permit mages to fight in close quarters with melee attackers and kill them. She couldn't simply hit the off switch and shut that lethality off...

"Unfortunately, I am unable to render my own weapons into a non-lethal state, so I would prefer not to use them. My apologies." she stated, now turning her gaze back to Homura. Eloara still couldn't help but feel a little awkward by Homura's desire to fight with weapons, but she pressed through none the less. Taking up as best a fighting posture as she could, she clenched her fists, her gloves flashing and then becoming shrouded in a thick purple haze. "However, I have other ways of assuring a clean fight." she continued on, giving a small nod to Homura.

Noticeably tensing up, Eloara saw her opponent looking just as ready, albeit as emotionless as ever. The Princess of Aetherway then began to charge at the magical girl, an act that only a few in her life had ever seen. A sudden break from the noble and calm attitude of a princess. A change to an aggressive temperament that would be unseemly for a princess, but one that this princess enjoyed letting free. A young spirit that craved adventure. When Eloara made her quick approach to Homura, she drew her fist back, launching it out into a straight jab. If the blow connected, there would be a slightly heavier force backing that arm. More stronger than that of an average 12 year old. Of course, having a 12 year old mage punching you would be the equivalent of a flick on the wrist, but the magic she had now conjured over her fists was making up the difference.

    The spar had officially begun.

Homura's invitation to use weapons was sincere, too; it wasn't like they could kill the magical girl. Even if her body was torn, battered and bruised so much that it looks ridiculously unhealthy, Homura would be able to just heal her body with magic and move on- that was one of the benefits of having a soul gem over having a fragile human body to fight with. Along with that came her magic, as well, so all in all in terms of fighting and spars, it wasn't that bad a deal! The shame was that Eloara didn't know this. Her wording had been good, however. It prompted a response from Homura, as she'd realise that Eloara probably believed that if she used her weapons she would be being lethal to her opponent.

"Lethal weapons are the least of my worries. You could impale me through my heart and it wouldn't kill me." Homura emotionlessly conveyed the fact to Eloara. She stopped talking after that, however. She wasn't exactly the talkative type when you didn't know her very well. When you did know her, she could talk for a while with you and would be fine talking to you. When you didn't, she would make short, to the point lexis and whereas she wouldn't regard you in a harsh light, she would have her guard up. I mean, it prevented her from being just attacked out of the blue or hurt in any way, shape or form by the person that she had her guard up around.

When Eloara came at her, Homura thought it was quite unlike a Princess. While it was quite unlike a Princess, however, the magical girl actually thought more of Eloara for being so enthusiastic. It paid to be able to just move forward with a punch before anyone could do so themselves in life, as you'd get the first blow in. From knowledge, she knew that the first blow could mean everything. It could mean the difference between your opponent winning and your opponent losing. On the other hand, to be too eager could also be a fatal flaw for a magical girl or for any other type of person. If they were too eager, they would miss opportunities and sometimes it did pay to be patient, even if for only a little. Homura excelled here; patience was her freakin' strong point.

"..." Homura pulled back on her time device, and time stopped accordingly. She moved around to the side of Eloara so that Homura was facing the opposite direction of Eloara, and the magical girl raised her hand. When time snapped back into place (And it'd literally be 'Homura is there one second, and suddenly she just disappears as if she was cut from all frames except the ones she was in before'), Homura let her hand fly downwards. Not anything too hard, but it let Eloara know that she had missed. Of course, Eloara was moving pretty fast when time flowed normally. There was always the chance of Homura missing.

    Hope for the best!

    --Time Stop (accuracy enhancer):

Using her time-alteration device, Homura is capable of stopping time. During the time-stop, anything she touches like weapons and such can be used, although when she shoots, for example, a bullet, it will stop in mid-air after being expelled from the chamber until time starts again, where it will proceed like a regular bullet.

Specifics: +1 coin to Homura's attacks. If one coin hits, the attack hits.

AP Cost currently: 1AP per use

Eloara had already done her research on the particular effects of entering this world. You were naturally weakened when you arrived and any sort of beneficial abilities you possessed were likely gone. Immortality among them. This girl may not feel a stab to the heart but if it was the killing blow that landed there, she would be killed. There would be no risk taking in something as simple as a spar. But back in the present, her arm slung out, only for the target of her fist to suddenly vanish. Now, she hadn't exactly researched the abilities of Homura... in fact, she had barely spoken to her outside of the sanctuary and the day they met. Nor was she particularly interested in researching her abilities either. She didn't seem to care much, but this sudden manipulation of time came as a surprise. But as her fist swung through empty air, she would catch sight of Homura, now within her peripheral vision. She she recoiled from the missed attack, she swung her body about, raising an arm up to defend against Homura's attack. As Homura's attack collided with Eloara's arm, a large purple swirl would appear in the way. This swirling energy would repel Homura's hand back, defending the mage from the attack.

There would be no banter or compliments on the display, however. No, she didn't feel a need for chatter. Her friends never spoke during combat with the Corporation, why would she break the tradition now. After blocking the attack, Eloara quickly hopped back a couple of steps, drawing her arm back. Within the palm of her hand, a small sphere of sparkling purple light formed. Slinging her arm out, this sphere was launched out. It travelled on a straight line, heading directly for Homura's chest. If this magical blast made contact, it would reveal it's effects, a harsh blast backwards complete with some lingering aching from the impact, almost like being struck with a sledgehammer.

Post by Homura Akemi on Mon Jan 21, 2013 7:16 pm

Upon Eloara's noticing her by using her peripheral vision, Homura blinked. She was dressed in a completely different outfit to the one she had been wearing in Sanctuary earlier. This was because the girl had transformed into her magical girl form long before the battle started. It didn't waste magic while you were in it, just when you used abilities, so it didn't matter much to Homura. When the fight ended, she'd transform back. It was as simple as that. What she was wearing was her custom outfit that was chosen because it reflected her when she became a magical girl. It was quite similar to her usual attire, the Mitakihara Middle School uniform, except it was more reliant on purple and it generally looked more magical and snazzy.

Eloara had repelled her attack slightly, eh? Didn't bother her foe. She'd landed a strong hit, that was what mattered. It had been stronger than intended, sure, but that wasn't too much of a problem during a spar. Oh, and just to say, Homura could genuinely be impaled through there and not be killed for the killing blow. It depended on the character. If you were a human, you would probably die. If you were someone like Laharl, you would be able to rough it out and carry on. In a fight to the death, this wouldn't happen (the character would be killed as usual) but in a spar that has been clearly named a spar, you wouldn't have to worry if you had a character like Homura. So it's all good~.

Next thing Homura knew, Eloara had made it away from her. Time manipulation was never really apparent; everyone she hadn't told had only ever thought of it as instant warping or something, but only one being had ever figured it out by itself. Even then, it'd taken it the best part of a month to do so. Anyway, Eloara's glowing hand was not easy to miss. As she got that attack ready, Homura pulled down her time shield and rather than stopping time, held it in place in front of her. When Eloara launched her energy attack, it struck the shield and the sheer force of the blow sent the magical girl skidding back, creating a line of mud in the ground where she'd skidded. Oh well, didn't matter. These were magical girl clothes, goodness knew where they go when the magical girl reverts to her normal state but they always come out clean. Mud was not a problem.

Anyway, Homura decided to ready an attack such as that herself. She was capable of firing purple energy blasts from her hands in rapid succession, but to do so would break the slow pace that this fight was taking. And she didn't have a problem with the pace. Gave her more time to prepare for whatever was coming next, and to plan her next attack. Which she did! She'd probably end up quickening the pace herself anyway, so it didn't matter too much. Homura began running around the battlefield, her palm aimed at Eloara. These attacks were weak, but it didn't matter. As long as it was an attack. As she circled swiftly, Homura fired a bolt of purple out at her foe. This blow would only make you feel a slight pain, because it wasn't strong. It worked, though.

    Energy bolt, go!
