Well... if he said so. Bobbing her head in what could be interpreted as a nod, Chell followed the boy and his fairy companion out of the Inn, arms hugging the notepad to her chest as she walked. As usual, the sights and sounds of the city overloaded her senses at first, causing her to tense up ever so subtly, but like the previous times she'd ventured out here, she opted to ignore it as best she could. It was all a matter of keeping focused on whatever was ahead of her, and paying attention to her own breathing, using each steady inhale as an anchor to keep her grounded.

Deciding Link was just as good of a thing to focus on as any (Although she found her gaze kept wanting to be drawn to the fairy--those things were distracting), she turned her sights to him, catching his grin to her and cautiously returning it with a brief quirk of her own lip. He had been nice enough to invite her somewhere... honestly, she was surprised by just how many things she'd been invited to in her brief time here. Even though, in retrospect, this outing made it a total of two. Still, that was far more than she could have ever predicted... best try and make the best of it.

Before long, the boy began listing off all of the relevant shops nearby, causing Chell to break her concentration and really look at them for the first time. Some were vaguely familiar, but most were not, meaning this was one area she hadn't fully explored yet. Each one they passed piqued her curiosity more and more, and soon she was actively peering in the windows, eyes widening slightly as she took in the various displays. This... honestly wasn't so bad, now that she was allowing herself to actually enjoy it. Maybe she should come down here more often. The mentioning of food drew her attention almost immediately back to Link, however, and she soon began the precarious task of walking and writing at the same time. It's a good thing the sidewalk wasn't crowded. "I didn't know there was a bakery near here. Actually, I'm not sure I've ever been down this way at all." was the message she eventually held out to him, fixing him with her best skeptical look. It was hard to imagine anything beating the Inn's food. "Is it really that good?"

Link couldn't help but smile at catching just how interested Chell seemed to be in all of the shops and such that he pointed out along the way. As she looked into the windows of each area they passed by, he was reminded of some of his own eagerness at first discovering these places, and even more of his sheer awe the first time he had set foot into the market of Hyrule Castle Town. To see all of those booths and shops for the first time… it was definitely impressive! And then getting to explore Clock Town upon his arrival in Termina… Portal City was an even more impressive version of that. And best of all, he knew there were still areas here yet to be discovered!

The young hero made sure to keep his pace steady once the former test subject started to write in her notebook. With the same practice he'd got in reading the older Link's own written messages whenever they walked through the city, this Link looked to Chell as she showed him her newest message in the notebook. He grinned at catching her statement regarding the bakery and her not having ventured down this way yet, and that smile only grew once he caught her question.

"Yeah, there is! It's been here since about the start of the year, and it's run by a couple of Hylians, just like Link and me," explained Link, motioning forward in the direction they were headed. Nodding strongly to her question as Tatl hovered back towards his shoulder, Link stated, "And yes, it really is that good! Sanji's food at the inn is incredible, but for baked goods, Wheaton and Pita are the best around. We get most of our bread from them now, and a lot of our desserts too!"

Ahhh, so this bakery was fairly new then. Well, if it was this popular with the citizens of the Breach already, then it must be good, although Chell still found herself a little curious. She had never... well, she was sure she had been to a bakery at some point during her past life, she just couldn't remember it now. Even though she wasn't planning on buying anything herself at the moment, and she certainly wasn't expecting Link to pitch in, a small part of her couldn't help but feel a bit eager to see what kind of pastries and other baked goods this place served. She had been getting back into the habit of eating real food, slowly, but even so, the thought of what this place might hold made her mouth water.

"Looking forward to checking it out, then." She eventually wrote, inwardly feeling incredibly thankful that the boy seemed to have no trouble reading and walking at the same time. "I've been more than happy with the Inn's food, but I guess it's always good to try new things." And indeed, it seemed there was a plethora of new things she still had yet to try if this street had anything to say about it, and the sight of so many restaurants and markets made her wonder why she hadn't already come down here all over again. It was actually somewhat charming, once you got past all of the commotion. Of course, as much as she hated to admit it... having a guide probably helped.

There was one more thing that piqued her interest, though. Furrowing her brow, the former test subject got to work on writing the boy another message, presenting it to him with a look of open curiosity once she was finished. "You said it's run by Hylians? How many of you are there here?"

As Link led the way to the bakery, he couldn't help but wonder if Wheaton might give Chell a free sample or two just the way he had done with the older Link on his first visit to the shop. Knowing the kind-hearted baker, he would not be surprised in the slightest. Either way, he just hoped that the former test subject enjoyed getting to see the place!

Tatl flew back for a moment to catch Chell's next line of text, and she soon chimed before stating, "It's pretty neat, I suppose. They're a nice couple." The feisty fairy was a bit more relaxed about the prospect of heading out to the bakery now, and at least it was a good place to visit. Certainly better than some other shops in the area…

Making sure to keep a good spot next to the former test subject, Link read over her new message before smiling a bit more. With a nod to the woman, he noted, "Yeah, I agree! And trust me, you're in the perfect area to do just that." The Hero of Time did tend to enjoy the food at the inn as well as whatever he and his own little family shared usually at least once a day or so, but as a growing boy with a hearty appetite, he was always set to try new food. That had been just one bonus of arriving on the Breach… the delicious and new foods he got to try! Just how many had he and the older Link tried together after he'd first got here? It was almost too many to count!

Chell's first question was understandable, but he had not exactly been expecting her second one. Still, they both filled Link with a bit of pride in the connection that she drew to his mentioning of his race, and at catching the curious expression she wore, he was even happier to answer.

"For just Hylians, there are about five of us… Wheaton, Pita, a shopkeeper named Rupin, the older Link, and myself. As far as Hyruleans go though, which includes everyone from Hyrule and not just Hylians, there are at least eight… and that includes the three Sheikah: Impa, Sheik, and Aicara."

He debated mentioning Vaati… but ultimately decided against it for the moment. After all, the Wind Mage was a formidable enemy, and since Chell was new here, the last thing Link wanted to do was unintentionally put her on edge by giving her cause for concern over one of the Breach's more intimidating residents!

A free sample would definitely be nice. Chell wasn't particularly hungry at the moment, per say, but considering real food was still a novelty to her... well, it made any offerings hard to resist. After all, she had shown up here underweight, and more than a little malnourished from weeks upon weeks of surviving off of the land and whatever non-perishables she could get her hands on in the various abandoned buildings she'd taken shelter in. Now that she didn't have to think about constantly conserving things, she felt she was more than entitled to indulging on whatever food she could eat without gagging, even just to get her strength back if nothing else. At least, that was how she saw it.

And if anyone else dared, dared to make a fat joke at her expense, then they would find their face firmly stamped into the curb, courtesy of her long fall boots.

But, back to simpler subjects. The former test subject nodded at the pair's statements regarding the bakery, taking the time to jot something down on her notepad in response. "Curious to meet them, then." If she was being honest with herself, she was much more curious about the food itself rather than the people who made it, but, baby steps. She was doing well with this boy so far, at least as far as she could tell--if the pair in question were anything like him, then maybe they'd hit it off fine after all. And speaking of which...

... Wow. So there were a lot more like him here, or at least close. Somehow, Chell had sort of expected that, and it left her wondering how many more Hyruleans and/or Hylians she was going to run into here. Though it also brought up... other questions. Questions she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to know the answer to, though she knew she needed to find out. As they continued to walk along, she penned the two another message, presenting it to them with an air of casual indifference."I see. So it's... common for people from our own homeworlds to show up here, I'm guessing." Inside though, she was intensely curious, and ever so slightly on edge. In actuality, if so many of his people were here, then didn't that mean there was a distinct possibility of someone from her world crossing over as well? People she wouldn't exactly be thrilled to have? ...Possibly Her? The whole thing was deeply unsettling for her, but regardless of what Link's answer was, she could at least be prepared.

Link beamed at Chell's next note, thinking to himself that the two very nice Hylians would definitely like getting to meet the former test subject. It was just a gut feeling he had, but something told him that they would wind up getting on very well even from just this first encounter.

As Chell seemed to take in his answer regarding Hyruleans present on the Breach, Link wondered for a moment if he might have to describe what was different between Hylians and Sheikah. It was understandable of course since whilst the subtle differences between the two species were rather apparent to anyone from their own world, he could see how it might be a bit trickier for someone who wasn't. Instead of clarification between the two mentioned species though, she mentioned something that stemmed from her previous question.

Now this caused Link to blink before glancing up in thought for a few moments. A chime from Tatl later, and he was looking back to Chell before stating, "I wouldn't exactly say it's common, but it can happen… even with the number of us here, there are a lot of people from other worlds that have many more come from the same one. More than just coming from the same world though, people can come from different times in the same world, just like Link and myself. That opens it up even more, really… so, it can happen, and there's always a chance for it, but there's not really a pattern to it."

Link paused for a second before chuckling a little sheepishly. "I hope that helps."

So, there was a definite chance, but not exactly a pattern. Chell nodded slowly at the boy's explanation, pursing her lips in thought. That was good to know, and the bit about the different timelines continued to fascinate her even now. So, if She were to show up, then it could possibly be from a different time all together--possibly even before she'd met Her. Of course, it hadn't been a traditional meeting so much as it was the AI waking her from a sleep she couldn't even remember having gone under and guiding her out on to a testing track, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. Certainly not where Aperture was involved. Of course, a lot had happened between now and then, but even now that she had been granted a new life and freedom--hell, especially now--the woman could only hope her old enemy wouldn't show up here. Or, if she had to, that she would come from a time that was well before she knew of her existence. Chell wasn't entirely sure how the AI would react if they were ever to meet again, but given the circumstances, she was not at all anxious to find out, and as far as she was concerned, they could continue staying good and separated by their respective dimensions for the rest of eternity.

Granted, the AI in question wasn't her only ex-companion/enemy that had the potential to reunite with her here... but, honestly? At this point in time, Chell wasn't inclined to think about the other option all that hard. It was far, far too complicated.

Turning her attention back to Link, she went on and gave him a much quicker nod now that he was finished, more to confirm that she was still listening than anything else. Admittedly, she did feel a little guilty for information gathering on what was supposed to be a nice outing, but the info was appreciated all the same. As new and confusing as this world was, she would definitely take what she could get. "It does, and thank you." She eventually wrote, presenting the note to the pair with a somewhat reserved thumbs up. "I apologize, I'm still new here. There's a lot I don't know."

Chell thankfully seemed to understand that the arrival of people from the same world tended to be far more at random than a set pattern, and she soon appeared to have wound up in a new set of thoughts based on that. Smiling a bit to himself at that, Link let her focus on them as he continued to lead the way to the bakery. Admittedly, he was very, VERY glad that the random chance of people ending up here from different worlds had had not only himself but also the older Link, Impa, and Zelda arrive too. Having his own band of friends certainly helped with his own adapting to this world… and it helped him far more than he could ever say.

Speaking of helping, Chell's next message confirm that his own explanation had in fact done just that for her. His smile grew a bit more at her thanks and tentative thumbs up, and he soon nodded to her, stating, "You're welcome."

At Chell's written apology, Link just shook his head before noting, "It's all right! Every single one of us was new here once… I probably knew even less when I first arrived here, especially since this world is so different from my own. I just hope that Link, Impa, Sheik, and I have been able to help you adjust better."

"Don't worry about it. If you want to ask us stuff, we'll answer it, although any more questions might have to wait… we're here," said Tatl, right before chiming to indicate that they had in fact arrived at the bakery.

Link quickly switched his attention to the cozy bakery, its combination of exterior wooden accents and large, glass windows that not only bore the text "Wheaton & Pita's Bakery", but also showed them a perfect view of just some of the delicious baked goods within. The boy's blue eyes lit up at catching sight of the breads that were shown in the window today, and he eagerly made his way towards the door. Laughing just a bit, he soon held it open, calling, "Come on! Let's head inside!"

Post by Chell on Wed Jun 26, 2013 8:49 pm

Chell was admittedly happy to see that Link didn't mind her prying a bit, especially since she was just getting to know the kid. There was still so much she had to learn, so much she hadn't seen yet--it was hard to resist asking questions once she actually found someone to ask them to. The pair's last statement earned a nod of both confirmation and thanks out of her, as without the Hyrulean's and their help so far, she didn't know where she'd be. Chell was resourceful, and good at navigating complicated areas at that, but being thrust into a gigantic city with no idea of where to go or why she was there was overwhelming enough that it was hard not to just assume she would have wound up sleeping under a park bench or something. At least for a few days or so. Despite being well used to sleeping outside at this point, she'd pick a nice bed and some real genuine meals any day over the streets. Looking back over at the two, she gave them the tiniest glimmer of a smile, inwardly glad that they were willing to help familiarize her with the area.

And on that note... it seemed they had arrived at the bakery. Coming to a stop, the woman allowed herself a moment to take in the exterior of the place, eyes widening ever so slightly as they roamed over the warm wooden accents--and most notably, the various pastries that were on display behind the front windows. Unable to resist laying her hand against the glass, she felt her mouth water and gulped. Well, Link definitely hadn't been kidding, that much was for sure... how had she never heard about this place before? If nothing else, then this more than anything was proof enough to her that she needed to get out more, at some point.

The display proved to be fascinating enough that her companion's invitation almost caused her to jump, head whipping around to look at him. Realizing what he was offering, she relaxed almost instantly, soon making her way through the door. And... color her surprised. If the display outside had looked nice, it was nothing compared to what awaited them inside. More baked goods on display than she could shake a stick at, and each one smelling delectable--enough to make her honestly kind of weak in the knees. The interior design was just as warm and homey as the outside had been--rustic and full of rich colors, not unlike the Stock Pot Inn itself, and from what she knew, very much Hyrulean. It was the sort of place that instantly put her mind at ease, the sort of place she could easily see herself spending more time in, although given that there was no dining available, she wasn't sure why she would.

None the less, Link had been right... going off of first impressions alone, she liked it a lot. Closing her eyes and taking in a deep breath, she finally willed herself to move again, making her way towards one of the displays near the bakery itself. The pastries, some familiar and some not, somehow looked even better close up, and Chell wasn't entirely sure how she'd pick just one if someone offered it to her. Hearing her stomach growl somewhat audibly, the former test subject startled a bit at the noise and tossed a glance Link's way, looking decidedly sheepish.

"Hey there, Link!" Came a familiar voice from behind the far counter. His toque atop his head and some flour accenting his cheeks from where he had been hard at work on his latest culinary creation, Wheaton was admittedly quite happy to see the young boy come through the door. All of the Hyruleans that had wound up on the Breach had become frequent patrons at his bakery, and those that resided at the inn in particular had become official regulars. Both Wheaton and his wife were always happy to see any of them even if it was just to stop by and say hello, but they did admittedly like being able to surprise them from time to time regardless as to which baked goods they got at any time.

"I see you've brought a friend today!" Pita called, waving and grinning herself from behind the near counter. Nodding to the human woman that accompanied her young friend, she added, "Welcome to the bakery. I'm Pita, and this is my husband Wheaton. Do be sure to let us know if you're looking for anything in particular."

Wheaton perked up ever so slightly at catching the slight sound of a rumbling stomach from over the counter. Had it not been for his Hylian hearing, he would not have caught it at all, but as it stood, he was taken back to a certain holiday a few months ago when another young boy had come through that door for the very first time… and with a knowing grin and wink to Pita, a certain display tray was subtly indicated before his wife moved to pick it up.

"Actually, you're both just in time… we've just finished our next sample tray. Today, we've got our special brioche on it," stated Pita, soon presenting a small, metal tray over the top of the counter, showing off a half dozen fluffy, freshly baked brioche to the trio. "You may each have one if you'd like."

When done right, not only did free samples help for possible future business, they also helped to ensure happier patrons! And whenever any of their regulars stopped by, they were usually too happy to offer one.

"Hey Wheaton! Hey Pita!" Link called, happily waving to the two bakers as he and Chell entered the shop. The boy had caught just how enraptured his companion seemed to be at all of the sights and smells in here, and he was honestly reminded to the first time the older Link had brought him and Sheik here. He might have been used to it now, but it was still a great experience each time he came through the door.

Smiling a bit more at Pita's statement, Link nodded to her before noting, "I have, yes!" He paused for a second to catch Chell's glance, giving her a reassuring nod before gesturing over towards the Hylian woman, indicating that she could introduce herself whenever she wanted to. Whilst a part of him was set to help in that regard, from his time knowing the future Link, he had always striven to do his best not to speak too often for those that had to communicate by other means. It was different for him and the Hero of Winds now since they were best friends, but the Hero of Time did not want to run even the smallest chance of coming off as disrespectful to Chell, especially since he hoped that they could in fact become friends soon… regardless of Pita's jumping to call them that.

She certainly had a good read on most people though, so it was entirely likely that she was already seeing through to the near future… or at the very least, Link hoped she was.

His expression brightening even further at the presented tray full of brioche, Link grinned at both Wheaton and Pita before he eagerly took one of the kindly offered baked goods. "Wow, thanks! I've not had one of your brioche in a while!"

Nodding in gratitude as Tatl slowly circled about his head, Link looked to Chell with a reassuring glance, hoping that she would enjoy the brioche as much as he had the first time he had tried it.

Chell almost instantly perked up upon hearing Wheaton's greeting, annoyingly vocal stomach forgotten for the time being. Well, he certainly looked like a baker... given that Link hadn't indicated that there was anyone else working here, she could only assume that this was Wheaton. As if to affirm her own thoughts, his wife spoke up not a few seconds later, introducing both herself and her husband, and subsequently welcoming them both to the bakery, causing Chell to stand up just a little bit straighter once they both seemed to take notice of her. If the architecture of the place hadn't been enough of a giveaway, the long, pointed ears that she was slowly growing accustomed to seeing definitely confirmed that they were both Hylian, as Link had said, although the familiarity this brought forth didn't do much to lower her initial defenses. Talking to strangers was still a skill she hadn't quite mastered yet. Still, these two were bakers--logically, there wasn't much they could do to her here, and she was under no obligation to give them any info if she didn't want to. Breathing through her nose, she allowed herself to relax.

It was just as well too, because she caught Link's gaze not a second later, his subtle gesture indicating that he was inviting her to introduce herself to the pair if she so desired. Quirking an eyebrow at him, she hesitated for just a moment before stepping forward, carefully leaning over her notepad. "Chell. Nice to meet you." She wrote, giving Link a slight nod as she held it up to the bakers. Rusty social skills or not, she was glad that her newfound companion hadn't been presumptuous enough to introduce her to them himself--not that she really had a reason to withhold her name now. It was just the principal of the matter, as she felt far more comfortable meeting people on her own terms, regardless of who or what they may be.

Once the sample tray was presented, the former test subject's eyebrows nearly shot up to her hairline as she examined the pastry, trying to ignore another faint grumbling in her stomach. It looked to be some kind of bread, although nothing she could ever recall having tried before--the top was too oddly shaped for that, and the outer shell had been baked to a deep golden brown, giving the thing a sort of charmingly misshapen look. So this was a brioche, was it? Whatever it was, it definitely smelled good... plucking the sample off the plate, she glanced back towards Link, taking note of the encouraging look he was giving her. Well, if he seemed to like it... giving the bakers a nod of thanks, she took a small bite out of the pastry, closing her eyes to better savor the taste.

...Wow, okay, Link hadn't been kidding around: this was really good. Chell's eyes flew open again, wide, before she unceremoniously stuffed the entire rest of the brioche into her mouth. Airy, delicate, and just a little bit sweet--it was by far the best bread she'd ever had, and she had eaten a lot of bread upon first arriving here.

Finishing up her sample, she turned her attention back to her notepad. "It's good." She wrote--although the look on her face clearly showed that this was something of an understatement. "I've never had that... whatever you said it was before." Damn unusual spellings.

Link smiled to Chell as she quirked an eyebrow at him, right before watching as she stepped forward to introduce herself by way of her notepad. He returned her nod with another of his own as Wheaton and Pita read over, feeling a little glad that she had introduced herself a little more readily here. Getting used to the Breach was never exactly an easy process no matter where anyone had originally come from, but even though he had only met the former test subject a little while ago outside of what he had heard from Impa, Zelda, and Link, he was just happy to see that she was starting to open up a little more.

Simply grinning a bit at Chell's surprise at the presented bread, the Hero of Time's expression brightened further once his new companion took her first bite of the brioche. It was all he could do to suppress a slight laugh as she soon proceeded to shove the rest of the pastry into her mouth, but more than being surprised at her quick action, he was just glad that she had apparently enjoyed it so much!

Tatl chimed a bit as Chell turned back to her notepad, feeling a little surprised that the still relatively withdrawn woman had jumped to devour the brioche so quickly. Even so, maybe it was a sign that she was started to come out of her shell a little more… or at the very least that she enjoyed food just about as much as the three Hylian kids did.

Once Chell had written another message for Pita and Wheaton, Link piped up, adding, "I hadn't had one until I first came to their bakery. Pita and Wheaton are actually from a time of Hyrule way before my own, but Hyrulean baked bread is good no matter when its baker is from… although theirs is still the best!" Chuckling a little as he glanced over to the pair of bakers, he asked, "Speaking of bread… could I please get two miches of your Hylian bread? Oh, and a dozen chocolate chip cookies?"

That alone should have the four Hyruleans set for sandwich bread and sides for the next few days, and the cookies would be a nice surprise for dessert tonight!

"It's nice to meet you as well, Chell," said Pita, smiling warmly and nodding to the human woman at catching her presented note. Grinning himself, Wheaton added, "Indeed. Any friend of Link's is a friend of ours."

Regardless of the fact that the couple had gotten quite used to the older Link's use of his digiglass whenever they saw the boy, they did not bat an eye at the former test subject's use of writing instead of speech. Whether she was not able to talk or had simply taken an oath of silence, both of the bakers simply hoped that she would enjoy their humble shop and everything they had within it. After all, even before they had got to know a certain young Hero of Winds, they had been decently versed in body language from their own time in Hyrule. A particular lad from their own time that had happened to bear a striking resemblance to both of the Links here had not been mute, but he was a boy of few words… and when it came to food, words alone were not always needed to express ones feelings.

Such certainly seemed to be the case once Chell took her first bite of the brioche, before she very readily crammed the rest of it into her mouth. Wheaton and Pita exchanged an amused grin with each other before looking back to the former test subject, at which point Wheaton noted, "All right, I'm glad you like it so much! I'll have to remember to always have extra brioche on hand when you come by, then!"

"That sounds like a fine idea, dear," agreed Pita. Glancing back to Chell at her presented text and added explanation that she had never had a brioche, she smiled a bit more before adding, "We're happy you enjoyed it! Brioche are very popular since they're rich and fluffy, and we do have fun making them."

At Link's request for a variation of his usual order, Wheaton nodded, "Of course you can! I'll slice and bag up the two loaves, and Pita can get your cookies." With a quick nod to his wife, the two quickly went about preparing the baked goods, and once her husband had gone to the slicer, Pita glanced over to Chell, asking, "Would you like anything today?"

Chell listened carefully as Link spoke, finding she was learning more about this place and it's bakers by the minute. So, they were from a time even before his own, were they? No matter how long she was here on the Breach, she wasn't sure if she'd ever quite be able to wrap her head around the various timeline nonsense that seemed so prevalent around these parts, but she accepted it with a small nod none the less. These people seemed non-threatening enough, and she didn't want to make them feel put upon by prying into their personal history, regardless of how interesting Hyrule sounded--and besides, that's not why she was here. The couple had seemed pleased by her reaction to the brioche, and offered to make some extra especially for her next time she came around, something Chell acknowledged with a pair of slightly widened eyes and a much quicker nod. She definitely wasn't about to turn that down, although with her lack of funds at the moment, it was hard for her to gauge when she might be able to come back. That thought alone was enough for her to want to truly take her time savoring everything here, from the smells and undeniably amazing taste of the pastries, to simply the warm, homey atmosphere that was such a far cry from where she had come from.

Honestly, it probably wouldn't be a bad place to spend the day, come to think of it.

Perking up at the sound of Link's request, the woman couldn't help but be highly tempted to ask for some variation of the same thing, particularly the cookies, which she had quickly learned were a favorite of hers--a nice, slightly less uncomfortable alternative to cake as far as her desserts went. (Once had probably been enough.) It really was unfortunate that she hadn't found any consistent source of pay yet, nor was she anywhere near ready to even think about looking for a job, but until she had enough to keep herself sustained, she was relegated to samples and eating her meals back at the Inn. Not a bad situation in the least, but... definitely a disappointing one when it came to times like these.

Almost as if she had been reading her thoughts, Chell soon found Pita addressing her again, this time asking her if there was anything she'd like from the bakery today. The answer to that question would most likely always be "yes", but despite a blink-and-you'll-miss-it glance over to the nearby cookies, the former test subject shook her head. "I don't think so." she wrote, feeling oddly uncomfortable admitting her situation. "I don't have anything I could give you."
