    Water Tribe Reunited

Well… Sokka had to hand it to the universe. It had finally succeeded in landing him some place that he could have never really prepared himself for… namely an entirely new universe.

In his exploring around the city, he had been able to determine that instead of Yu Dao, he'd wound up in a place called Portal City, and thanks to what he had learned from Kev in that surprisingly comfortable place known as the Sanctuary, it was located in a world called Portal Breach. Somehow… his world had been destroyed. He was still coming to grips with that fact of course, but the alien's kind reassurance that MAYBE some of his loved ones had made it over to this world was something he fully intended to hold onto. Hey, if it was possible for him to get pulled here, then it was equally possible that Suki, Katara, Aang, Toph, or even Zuko had made it over here too. It was just a matter of finding them…

No matter where they were though, no matter how much he missed them already, Sokka just hoped that they were safe.

He was glad that he'd been able to get his bearings in this new city the previous night, or at least as close to such as he could get for the time being. He had spent all of yesterday afternoon and evening exploring the city before curiously stumbling upon the Sanctuary. His own investigations had been fairly successful prior to that, but in retrospect, he was very glad he had made the call to enter the place. Last night, Kev had informed him of an inn he would be able to find a room at... now what was it called again? The Stop On In? No, it wasn't as clever as that... but close to it. Ah! The Stock Pot Inn! That was it! The Water Tribe warrior fully intended to look into this place, as free lodging and food sounded beyond amazing to him, but last night, he had opted to just stay at the Sanctuary. It had been effectively empty, there was plenty of food to help him get his energy back, and the couches had been very cushy and comfortable. Sokka had slept in a bit late from what he usually did, but considering everything he had been through yesterday, he supposed it made sense. At least now he was fully refreshed and ready to tackle the day!

And that tackling meant even more exploring. Hey, it was a big city, and wandering around with his new map and gathered information was one of the best ways to learn even more about it. Learning about this bustling area was just the thing he needed to learn even more about this world, and once he was more set in it, then he could go about finding adventures in the lands beyond the city's edges.

For now though, Sokka was determined to make the most of where he had wound up. He didn't like the circumstances that brought him here, but who knew, maybe some good would come of it. Finding his resolve galvanized further, he continued his trek through the city, set for just about anything he might run across.

    Or so he thought...

Korra wandered about the City, arms behind her head as she walked around calmly. She left her parka back at Lin's room, since the light fall weather was nothing compared to the South Pole. Naga was likewise back at the Inn, maneuvering around the city here was pretty hard with the bulky polar bear dog, but she had made an effort to take her out to the woods and let her run around, stretch her legs and get some exercise. Winter may be coming, but she didn't need to put on some weight!

Even though she'd been here for 17 days, she was still trying to get used to this place. And this situation. When she had read Chief Beifong's letter, about how she had to help save some kids, all the way at the beginning of the month, Korra had taken that alone time to come to grips with certain...details.

Specifically, the fact that she and Lin were all that remained of their world. Sifu Katara, her parents, her family, Tenzin and his family, Mako and Bolin, all of them were apparently dead now, and even Amon was here, though she hadn't seen him yet. She frowned, unsure how to feel about that. On one hand, she didn't want to see him again. He was Amon! And she was left with her waterbending now, and since he was a waterbender too, he could overpower her and take what bending she had left! But not seeing him made her uneasy. Was he still here? Was he planning? Did he know she was here?

She sighed and blew a bit of hair out of her face. Worrying about it wasn't going to do her any good. Her eyes scanned the other people walking by, none of them paying the young teenager any mind. This was odd too. Soon enough in Republic City, people had learned she was the Avatar, and she usually had at least one person, whether against Equalists or a fan of Pro-Bending, come up to her to greet her and say hi. No one here knew what an Avatar was. To them, she was just another person in a crowd. She couldn't exactly find a reason to hate this, honestly!

Her eyes spotted a tuft of hair in the crowd, catching her attention instantly. She narrowed her eyes, focusing. Was that a warrior's wolf tail hair style?! Shaved sides...yes, that looked to be it exactly! She ran to the poofy pony tailed person, maneuvering her way between the bodies of the people, and instantly she was reminded of that Airbender training relic. "Being the leaf, being the leaf!" She mumbled to herself as she went. With one more twirl, she found herself face to face with a young man who looked distinctly Water Tribe! Blue clothes, dark skin, blue eyes, brown hair, Warrior's wolf tail! She grinned at the young man, not yet realizing just who this guy was...yet.

"You're from the Water Tribe, right? Finally! This place isn't bad, its okay, but its so good to see another Water Tribe person here!" She tilted her head, hand coming beneath her chin as she looked him over. He didn't look familiar at all. Maybe he was from the Northern Water Tribe?

Sokka was still making his way over one of these sturdy, rigid paths for pedestrians that were all over the place here, still taking much of the city in even as he moved through the light crowd of people. For his first full day here, he supposed he hadn't fared too bad so far… although he was admittedly not looking forward to the time it was going to take him to get used to all of this. New city, new world… and not a familiar face in sight. Some of the people that he happened to walk by in the city vaguely reminded him of general citizens of the Earth Kingdom or Fire Nation, but for each similarity, there were plenty more differences. He wasn't necessarily expecting to find someone he knew soon if at all… but it still would have been nice.

Unbeknownst to Sokka though, someone had found him.

As he continued to walk over the paved walkway, he found himself having to quickly skid to a stop as there was suddenly a curious young woman RIGHT in front of him. Sokka's posture immediately went perfect, and he subconsciously rolled his shoulders back as he looked to her, silently noting that he was very grateful for his quick reflexes. But where had the young woman come from?! A few seconds ago he was only seeing the forms of the people that were ahead of him, but she had apparently weaved through the crowd or something and just APPEARED right there! To be honest, that kind of appearance reminded him of Aang… the kid was very light on his feet after all.

The young woman before him was no Air Nomad though… no, as she looked him up and down, he did the same to her, his eyes still showing his surprise as he started to realize that even though he had never seen this girl before in his life, she definitely looked familiar. Rather, her clothing and general features did… not only did she have dark skin, blue eyes, and brown hair, her hair was in a distinct style, and her outfit was blue… more than that, both her hairstyle and clothing were distinctly Water Tribe.

As she grinned to him, Sokka smiled back to her, albeit a little nervously. Before he could say anything though, she asked one of the two main questions that was on his mind (the other being who she was, of course). Ah-HA! So she WAS Water Tribe! At her next line, Sokka's nervous smile shifted into a grin of his own, and he nodded before stating, "Yeah, I am… and from the looks of it, so are you! Man, it's great to see someone from the Water Tribe here! But… you don't look familiar… are you from the Northern Water Tribe?"

Her outfit really reminded him more of someone from the Southern Water Tribe, but Sokka knew practically everyone in that particular tribe. Furthermore, she appeared to be about the same age as him, yet he was pretty certain he didn't remember her from anywhere. Still, even though his instincts were telling him she was also Southern, he had to ask. No matter what her answer was though, the young warrior was still inwardly very excited at having got to meet someone from home already.

She couldn't help but admire the reflexes of this guy, as her appearing in his face caused him to stiffen up. Which was good, because she'd hate to make her first meeting with someone else from the Water Tribe by causing them both to trip and fall. Her grin was matched with a smile, and she listened as he answered.

Good, he WAS from the Water Tribe! He was pretty happy to see someone else from the Water Tribe too! The weird part was when he voiced exactly what she thought of him, asking if she was from the Northern Water Tribe. She shook her head and grinned proudly.

"Nope! Southern Water Tribe, born and raised! But how could we both be there and not know each other?" It was honestly pretty odd. Especially since he was from the South Pole! How could she not look familiar? She was the Avatar.

She narrowed her eyes, arms crossed, as she took in his features. And like a jolt of lightning, the image of another face flashed through her mind and her eyes widened. Sokka. When she was younger, before he had died, she'd met him when he came to visit Sifu Katara. Sifu Katara and the White Lotus had told her of the adventures of Aang and his friends. And perhaps most importantly, when she had those visions, Sokka was in them. And as she stared into the face of this young Water Tribe man. she couldn't deny how like him he looked! Sure, there was no beard, and he was obviously young, but that's what age does to you.

"...How...I don't...you're Sokka, aren't you?! Sifu Katara's brother, had a lot of adventures with Avatar Aang, that's you, isn't it?!" This was officially the most amazing thing she had seen here. The Sokka she had met was an old man. This Sokka, was young! No older than herself! "I'm Avatar Korra! Its so great to meet you! You know, when you're not old and all!" She grabbed his hand and shook it eagerly.

Post by Sokka on Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:00 pm

As ever, Sokka's instincts were right on target. This girl that had found him was in fact from his very own Southern Water Tribe! Maybe a different village, but still! She was someone from home, from HIS home! it didn't matter if he hadn't met her or not! Still, even though he grinned a bit more at this, it did raise some interesting questions. One of those bouncing around in his head was soon voiced by his newfound companion, and a moment later, he crossed his arms and nodded in thought.

"Hm, that is a very good question… maybe our villages were two of the furthest apart?" Sokka suggested. Hey, it was the only thing that really made sense to him. The Southern Water Tribe was pretty scattered across the South Pole after all… and even though the villages had started to recover and build up further in the year since the war had ended, they were still very spread out.

Before he could offer any other ideas though, and even before the girl could respond to that possibility, she seemed to suddenly jolt very slightly, her eyes widening as though she had been thoroughly surprised. Sokka blinked at this, looking to her to make sure she was okay. Save being apparently lost in thought, she seemed to be, but what had caused this?

Come to think of it though… regardless of the fact that she was also from the Southern Water Tribe, there was something else that was incredibly familiar about her. He couldn't quite put his finger on it… and the fact that he couldn't figure it out was starting to drive him a little crazy. Sokka knew to always trust his instincts… but what were they trying to tell him here?

Almost as quickly as she'd got pulled into being stunned, she snapped out of it, her happy expression returned, although it was now full of disbelief too. Sokka was just about to ask if she was all right, but through her surprise, she very suddenly stated his name, followed by mentions of Katara and Aang. He didn't know why she had referred to his younger sister as Sifu, but she had still named the three of them… the original gang.

Now was Sokka's turn to widen his eyes in surprise. How had she known him, much less Katara and Aang?! Had she heard of the three of them and just now remembered who he himself was?

    "Yeah, I… I am,"
    replied Sokka, nodding slowly.

Well this just got weird. Before the Water Tribe warrior could question the title that the girl had used for Katara though, much less ask her own name, she introduced herself. Korra… that was definitely a Water Tribe name… had a nice ring to it, too. But her name didn't surprise him so much as the title she used for herself did. Avatar Korra?! But… Aang was the Avatar! How was this possible?! Was she… a new Avatar? If that was the case though, then that meant that Aang was… no, he couldn't think about that right now. Was she a past Avatar that he hadn't heard of yet? No, that didn't make sense either… if she was from the past, she couldn't have known about him. Which only left… the future. Sokka's eyes widened a little more once he added that idea to her mention of him not being old. Old… old was what he would be in the future. That didn't many any sense to him at all… but with her standing right here, and that honest introduction… it was the only thing that actually made sense.

Even though his mind was starting to attempt to reason all of this out, Sokka's confusion was prevailing over his logic for the moment. He somehow managed to shake Korra's hand as she readily shook his, his grip strong even though he wasn't returning the shake with as much enthusiasm. "Yeah, it's uh… great to meet you too, Korra." He replied, right before snapping back to a bit of his earlier eagerness, just to prove that despite his being lost over this news, he was very glad to meet her. "Ah, it is! It really is! But… Avatar? Are you really the Avatar?"

    Re: Water Tribe Reunited

Post by Korra on Thu Oct 18, 2012 9:21 pm

Sokka's suggestion had been a very good one, but since she knew who he was now, she didn't pay it much mind. After all, its hard for a guy to recognize you when you haven't even been born yet. Which just made it so obvious to her yet again, how odd this was. After all, if Sokka had been taken from his time and brought here, what did that mean for her timeline? Again, she had met Sokka, when he was older. And she couldn't have a vision of him at Yakone's trial if he wasn't even BACK IN THERE WORLD.

"I guess this place doesn't obey normal 'time' rules...after all, Chief Beifong was here for a month before I came, but for me it hadn't even been a day since I had seen her." She shrugged to Sokka, although she was mostly thinking out loud. That had been so odd, to learn from the older woman that she had been here for a month, possibly even two. And now here Sokka was, alive and kicking!

And speaking of Sokka, she couldn't help but smirk a bit at his confusion. This must be so confusing for him. It was confusing for her too! This type of thing could never happen in their world. Meeting someone who was dead or from the past? That could only be done by visiting the Spirit World, which very few besides the Avatar could do.

A few moments after he started returning her hand shake, she released his hand and folded her arms, mouth still up turned in a grin. "Oh yeah! I'm the most recent incarnation of the Avatar! And I'm sure of it, before I came here I had just become a fully realized Avatar!" Fully realized besides the Spirit World side of it of course. She told this to him with a confident smile, but it fell soon after. "I'd demonstrate my ability to bend all four elements for you but..." She rubbed her arm, uncomfortable. "Apparently this place lowers your strength and powers? So...I can only bend water for now." That little detail about this place bugged her too. She felt better to know she'd get the ability to bend the rest of the elements as she stayed here and got stronger, but it was so...odd. It wasn't like Amon's debending. She could feel it, it was there but because of this place she couldn't tap into her powers and move anything besides water.

She shrugged off her melancholy and smiled again. "But the people here say I'll be able to get the rest of my bending back over time, and at least I have water! That's my native element, and Sifu Katara did a great job at teaching me to heal with it. So...its not that bad I guess. But enough about me! When are you from? Before or after you all defeated Ozai?" She couldn't quite figure out what age he was, beside not old. "Oh! And did you really beat up someone who could fire bend with their mind with nothing but a boomerang?!"

    Re: Water Tribe Reunited

Post by Sokka on Fri Oct 19, 2012 6:17 pm

"I guess it doesn't…" mused Sokka, the weirdness of this new reality finally starting to settle down a little for him. It was still pretty weird of course, but the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. He had been transported here out of nowhere, and Kev had explained to him that it happened to all sorts of other worlds too. Considering that and the fact that the green alien had also suggested to him that others from his world might also wind up here, it was entirely possible that they would get pulled here from times other than his own. This Breach did seem to exist out in its own time somewhere… so why couldn't people get pulled from other times in the same universe? If nothing else, the girl before him was very substantial proof of that… and it was pretty neat that she knew who he was even though he had never met her before. His features starting to relax a little more as he reasoned all of this out, Sokka added, "That's the only explanation for me getting pulled here from my time and you getting pulled here from the future."

Still, even with as much as her example of time discrepancies helped reason this whole mess out further, something was bugging him… namely the mention of a very familiar name. And more than his hesitant excitement over the possibility of Toph being here, something else had caught his attention. "Wait a minute… Beifong? You mean Toph is here?! … And since when did she become a chief!?" The use of the title of Chief was even more confusing to Sokka than Korra's previous use of Sifu for Katara did, namely since Aang had called both Toph and his sister Sifu… but if his earthbending friend had made it here, then that was definitely a boost of hope for others winding up in this world too. First Toph, then Korra, and now himself… who else might show up?

As Korra moved to fold her arms, Sokka soon found himself crossing his own as he listened to her, his own slight smile broadening as she detailed how she was the most recent incarnation of the Avatar, and how she had already become a fully realized one. Now that was definitely impressive… he had been with Aang through his entire journey to become a fully realized Avatar, and he knew that it was no easy feat. Bender or not, Sokka did respect having to learn four completely different fighting styles, and as he had seen his light-footed buddy go through every trial, tribulation, and triumph on that path, he was glad that Korra had been able to achieve that level too.

Sokka blinked in slight surprise though as her grin soon faded, her expression becoming downcast. He was just about to ask if something was the matter, right before she explained exactly what was was the matter… she couldn't bend all four elements right now, despite being a fully realized Avatar? At least there was a good reason for it… although that didn't mean the Water Tribe warrior liked the reason. It was bad enough that they had to be pulled to an unfamiliar world against their will, but it also lowered their strength and power? What did that mean for his own combat skills? He could still feel all of his strength within himself, that had not changed, and he still knew how to fight… weird. Maybe it just meant that in battle, the power behind the attacks wasn't where it normally would have been?

"Ahh… I'm sorry about that…" said Sokka, not really knowing what else he could say here. "I guess that means I'm not immune to that effect then…" Before he could let that thought bring him down though, Korra shifted right back to a genuine smile, soon explaining that she would be able to get the rest of her bending back over time. His own smile restored, Sokka listened as she went on to add that waterbending was her original style. That made perfect sense given that she was also Water Tribe as well as the fact that the next element in line after air was water. Even with the frustrating fact that they would both have to recover their full powers, at least Korra did have her water… that was bound to prove useful for the both of them, same as he hoped his own combat skill would.

"Huh… I guess patience and hard work can pay off for that too then! I'm sure we'll get you back to that full power here… as a fellow member of the Water Tribe and Team Avatar, you have my word that I'll help in any way I can!"

As for the mention of Katara helping to teach Korra, that definitely boosted Sokka's spirits further. So Katara had still been around to help the next Avatar… it was kind of bittersweet once he thought more on it, but at least she had still had that connection to the kid. "Heh, that's two Avatars my sister's trained… I bet she was a great teacher for you." Sokka and Katara might have had their spats, but regardless of his earlier views of her "magic water," the warrior had definitely come to respect his sister's skill, and after seeing how far she had grown, he knew that she was definitely a capable waterbending teacher.

Very shortly, Korra jumped to ask about him instead, and Sokka was only too happy to answer her questions. "Oh, I'm from after we brought Ozai down… about a year after the end of the war, actually." He was unable to hide the pride in his grin at that. It had been a very heavy battle, but in the end, they had emerged victorious and able to get the world on the track to peace. Hopefully, their efforts had made the world a better one in Korra's time. In response to her second question, Sokka almost found himself laughing a bit… wow, she had heard about that conflict? Now THAT was pretty impressive. "You mean Combustion Man? Why yes! As a matter of fact, I did defeat him with just my boomerang."

Sokka pulled his boomerang from its sling on his back, showing his trusty weapon to Korra so that she could see it in person. His curiosity starting to take over as to who Korra had learned about that particular event, he asked, "Where did you hear about that story?"

    Re: Water Tribe Reunited

Post by Korra on Mon Oct 22, 2012 8:41 pm

She nodded as he agreed that this place was obviously weird when it comes to 'time'. Maybe it existed out of time? Something odd like that? Either way, she focused back on Sokka curiously. "How long have you been here for? I haven't seen you in the times I went to that shindig. Uh...Sanctuary, I think its called?" Such an odd place, but the name was pretty accurate. It felt like the most inviting place in this world, and the people here, albeit odd, were helpful. She might have lost some close friends in coming here, but she felt like maybe, she could make more. Not to replace them, never. No one could replace Bolin, or Asami, or Mako...but there was no reason for her to deny any friendliness to the people here, now was there?

She blinked, staring at him for a moment as he stared asking if Toph was here. Why...? She quickly realized though, who's name she had mentioned, and she smiled and shook her head. Couldn't wait to see his face when he hears this. "She's not here, although at some point she DID become Chief of the Metalbending Police of Republic City. No, the Beifong here is Lin Beifong..." Her smile widened as she took in his face, waiting. "Toph's daughter." Bet that'd get quite the reaction out of him! It'd be as odd as if she someday met someone who told her about Bolin having a little Probending son. And now that she thought of it, her smile just got wider. Oh, she just HAD to show Sokka to Lin, she had to! Lin was older than her, surely she knew Sokka more than herself!

Sokka apologized for her current position and she shook her head a bit. "Its alright, at least it can be fixed." What Amon had done, what had still felt so terrible and seemed to happen just last month, had seemed unable to be undone. That was honestly worse then what this place had done. She'd been left with air, an element she had only just started to be able to bend, completely cut off from the rest. And she felt so hopeless, when even the healing of Katara was unable to restore her bending. Here, it would come back...she felt better, to know that. She winced sympathetically as Sokka mused that the same was true for him and his fighting abilities.

As he pledged to help her get her power back, she grinned back at him, appreciating the gesture. "And as a fellow member of the Water Tribe and Team Avatar, I'll help you return to your full strength too! From what I hear around this place, you have to get stronger through fights and sparring and training to do that! I wouldn't mind training with you at all, maybe Beifong will join us!"

Two Avatars she trained? Oh right, she trained Aang, didn't she? She nodded to Sokka, a small wistful look on her face. "She was, I think out of all of the Masters who taught me, she was the one I was closest to. Well, her and her son Tenzin of course! He was a great teacher too." At times, Tenzin seemed to be like a father figure for her, even though she only lived with him for a few months.

She focused on Sokka as he answered, grinning a bit when he said he was from after the fight with Ozai. A year after to be precise! "So you're right around my age!" She grinned as she spoke with him, this was like talking to a War Veteran! Of course, he had been in a war after all. He helped put a stop to a Hundred year war. "Combustion Man?" She repeated curiously, face still upturned in a grin. So he HAD defeated that guy with a boomerang! Impressive! If that was one thing about Asami and the Equalists that she had learned, it was that nonbenders can kick butt too, if they have the right equipment! She'd seen Asami take down several Equalists on her own, and from what Bolin had told her, she'd handled herself pretty well against her father too!

She leaned forward to investigate his boomerang, hands reaching out to touch it, yet still keeping her hands back so she didn't touch it. Her face snapped up to his as he asked where she heard it. "Huh? Oh. Well, technically, I heard it from you. But uh...it was in this weird...'Avatar' vision, you know? Aang was sending me visions to let me know that these guys I'd been having trouble with were Bloodbenders, by showing me a vision of their father in a trial. He was a mob leader, and also a Bloodbender, except he didn't need a full moon to bloodbend. You were on the Council, so you were there hearing the testimony, and you mentioned the guy who could firebend with his brain. You were using him, and also Toph and a few other people who were extraordinary Benders, as examples to show that the idea of Yakone bloodbending without the full moon was possible. That was when he attacked too, bloodbent the whole room. Aang ended up taking his bending away."

    Re: Water Tribe Reunited

Post by Sokka on Tue Oct 23, 2012 1:25 am

"I just got here yesterday, actually, so I've really not been here that long," replied Sokka, gesturing slightly with his boomerang. "And yeah, the Sanctuary! I wandered into that place last night… even wound up spending the night there since it got kind of late and I hadn't found a place to rest at yet." Part of him had felt a little odd calling it a day there, but after some of the campsites that he had had to use on so much of his journey with Aang, Katara, and Toph, Sokka had definitely been grateful for a new place that had nice, cushy couches. It was more like the house at Ba Sing Se or Zuko's old beach house on Ember Island, although the furniture had somehow managed to be even more comfortable.

Sokka's face fell a little when Korra explained that Toph actually wasn't here, although just as soon as his expression fell, he perked right back up a bit once she mentioned that his friend had become the Chief of the Metalbending Police. He had no idea what this Republic City place was, although he figured he could ask about that later… probably some new city that had sprung up in his future. Still, the fact that Toph had become a head of a police force and one that utilized metalbending… that was definitely pretty cool to learn. As tough as she was and as much as she liked bossing people around, that sounded like a perfect job for her… and it was also great to confirm that her metalbending school had taken off well past its own early success that he had recently helped her oversee. Toph had managed to take metalbending from something only she knew, to a school of three promising pupils, to the focus of an entire law enforcement group! Wherever the blind bandit was, Sokka couldn't help but feel rather proud for her.

The mention of a Lin Beifong caused Sokka to raise a curious brow, though… Lin Beifong? Did Toph have a cousin or something? She did come from a pretty prestigious family, so maybe it was one of her relatives she hadn't mentioned yet… and a moment later, the smiling Korra confirmed that he had been right in this Lin character being one of Toph's relatives. However, nothing could have prepared him for what exactly she had said. Waitaminute… … … TOPH'S DAUGHTER?!

"HAH?!" exclaimed Sokka in sheer surprise. "Wait, Toph had a daughter?! When did that happen?!" He knew that Korra was from the future, and that that meant that he and his friend would have all aged and lived out their lives, but the idea of anyone from Team Avatar, especially Toph having a kid was just… that was a step further than what the Water Tribe warrior had already imagined! He was so dumbfounded by this startling revelation that he couldn't even ask who Lin's father was… this was just… TOPH BEIFONG HAD HAD A DAUGHTER?!

As he waited for Korra's response, only then did Sokka start to calm down from this very, VERY surprising news. He had to keep mentally repeating to himself "It's the future, things happen" to try and keep from collapsing from having been stunned so hard. In addition to Korra's words and his own attempts to reel himself back in though, the other thing that started to help ease his mind were his thoughts that wandered to other aspects of the future. Sokka was pretty sure that Aang and Katara were going to stay together forever (and hopefully grow out of the oogies that they gave him), and Toph's future brought the question of kids for them. Also… what about Zuko? And where did his and Suki's futures take them, aside from growing closer and closer together?

It was a lot to think about, but thankfully, even after that surprise, their conversation continued on to help bring him back. "Yeah, that's definitely a plus," said Sokka, nodding to Korra's mention that at least her full bending powers could be restored. Her returned grin and promise to help him regain his own true power had him feeling even better, and made his own grin grow a bit more. "Sounds like a plan! Training could be pretty interesting… and man oh man would that bring back some memories…"

At Korra's words regarding his sister, Sokka couldn't help but smile himself. Even with what Korra's presence as the Avatar meant for Aang, it was still good to know that Katara had had that connection to both waterbending and the Avatar. The mention of her having a song named Tenzin did make him raise his eyebrows in surprise, but Katara having a daughter was far less surprising to Sokka than Toph having one was. And with that very familiar name… that confirmed his instincts regarding Kartara and Aang. "I'm glad you had that with Katara… really. So… Tenzin… that sounds like an Air Nomad name. Does that mean that Aang was no longer the last airbender?"

When Korra made her exclamation about his age, Sokka just laughed a bit before asking, "That means you're 17 too? All right! This whole time not behaving normally stuff worked out pretty good then!" A moment later, once she asked about Combustion Man, Sokka nodded before explaining, "Yeah, that's the name I gave to the guy that could firebend with his mind! At first I was going to call him Sparky Sparky Boom Man, but with the way that his firebending always caused powerful explosions out of nowhere, I thought that Combustion Man fit him better."

Sokka grinned at the curiosity Korra seemed to hold over his boomerang, right before raising his eyebrows in intrigue at her tale of where she'd heard about that. He listened intently to her, taking in all of the details from the future that he could, finding himself furious about the presence of more bloodbenders as well as rather pleased that he'd wound up as a councilman. He always knew he was a good leader… and it looked like eventually in their world, others had truly recognized that. "Huh, well I'm glad you heard it from the source… and yeah, I know all about those Avatar visions. Aang used to have a lot of them. In the case of that… Yakone guy… I'm glad that logic led to justice prevailing. That had to have been before you were born though… were things pretty safe once it got to your time?"

Yesterday? Huh! "Wow, I'm glad I've met you on your second day here!" Korra grinned at Sokka. So he found the Sanctuary already, good. "You haven't found a place to stay? Don't worry, there's an Inn here! I'm actually sharing a room with Beifong! I know where it is too, I can take you there." And in the process, introduce Sokka to Toph's daughter~!

Speaking of, Sokka's face betrayed his disappointment, however slight, at Toph not being here. He perked up quickly though, and she waited for what she said to sink in. And once she saw his surprised face, she stifled a laugh and merely smirked and shrugged a bit. "No clue! Must have been a few years back in my time though, she's not exactly young. Spry for an older lady though, I'll give her that!" How strange, the way their relationship had progressed through these past few months. Neither of them had any respect for the other at first, but once they'd warmed up to each other, and fought against the Equalists when they attacked the Probending arena, they began to get more civil and friendly. It had only gone up between them ever since, especially when Beifong lost her bending in her attempt to help Tenzin and his family escape and she later returned her bending to her. Korra's smirk melted into a more genuine smile as she thought about it. Beifong had only ever been helpful since she had arrived here, and she was grateful for it.

"Oh I bet it'd be interesting! And when we finish you can tell me all about those memories!" She couldn't help it, she was pretty interested in their adventures in the past. She smiled again as Sokka was glad she had a good relationship with Katara, grinning even more as he asked about Tenzin being an airbender. "Right! Sifu Katara and Aang had three kids together, one was a Water bender, one had no bending, and Tenzin was an air bender. Tenzin's kids were also airbenders. He had four kids, but one of them was just born, so if he's a bender, I'm not sure. The other three are definitely airbenders." Her smile turned a bit bittersweet, mentioning the airbending kids. She shook it off and focused on Sokka.

"Yeah, I'm 17 too!" She grinned, and as he went on, her face melted into a different look. "Sparky Sparky Boom Man? I like that name! Large explosions? With his mind? Wow..." Wonder how he could do that! Even more, how a boomerang could have defeated him. A story for another day perhaps!

For some reason, hearing that Aang had frequent visions made her feel...happy. It had just been so odd, knowing that Aang had it too made it feel less weird. It must just be some Avatar thing. And certainly, it was very handy! Just a shame it took her so long to figure out what Aang was trying to say. "Uh..." She shrugged a bit, helplessly. "Yakone was dead by my time but unfortunately, he had sons, those Bloodbenders I mentioned. He raised them to become tools of revenge against the Avatar and Republic City. Neither of his sons wanted to do what he wanted, but they ended up doing it anyway. One made his way onto the Council and tried to rule it from the inside instead of in a mob from the streets like Yakone did. The other...he disguised himself as a non-bender and created a group, called the Equalists. They were a group against Benders, who they saw as bullies and oppressors. And, don't get me wrong! I faced off and saw gangster jerks who used their bending to intimidate non-benders and get money. But that doesn't make bending evil. Bending's not the problem! But Amon, Yakone's son, he had them tricked. He told them the Spirits gave him the power to take bending away. I'm not sure how, but somehow, he used his bloodbending to do it, to stop bending. He even debended his own brother. I'm not sure what's happened to those two, no one's heard anything from them, but my friend Mako and I managed to reveal Amon to be a liar. At the time I had left, things were safe again." A shame it couldn't have stayed safe, seeing how the place was destroyed. She felt better, to know that there was apparently nothing she could have done to prevent it, but it still nagged at her sometimes.

"Yeah, I'm glad too!" Sokka returned Korra's grin. "I kind of wish I'd been able to catch you here sooner, but hey, at least it was soon for my end of things! A~~nd, I know your having already been here for a little while will come in handy for both of us." Once she mentioned the inn, Sokka asked, "You mean the Stock Pot Inn? Yeah, Kev told me about that place… I just hadn't made it there yet. Maybe I can get a room next to you guys."

Part of Sokka was very much looking forward to meeting Lin Beifong, but another part of him was still weirded out by the prospect of meeting Toph's daughter. He nodded at Korra's explanation that revealed that Lin was older… given Korra's age relative to where Aang's time had been though, he supposed that made sense. He laughed a bit at her mention of the woman being pretty spry… given who Lin's mother was, that didn't surprise the Water Tribe warrior in the slightest.

"I'd be glad to! And you'll have to tell me about some of your own training tales. I imagine learning all four elements was rather different for you since you weren't on the run from the Fire Nation," mused Sokka. That musing soon shifted into a soft smile for I'm as Korra gave him a preview of the future. As she detailed how Aang and Katara went on to have three kids (including a non-bender… oh boy, that kid hopefully got to enjoy learning combat from his Uncle Sokka!) and then how their son Tenzin had had four kids of his own, the young warrior could feel a little bit of wistfulness forming inside of himself. So the two of them had started their own line, and the airbenders didn't end with Aang… both of those were great to learn. Hopefully, wherever they were, they were all okay.

Somehow, Sokka found himself a little hesitant to ask about what became of Suki and him… in a way he wanted to know, but right now, he just felt that could wait. He didn't want to derail this conversation in a weird direction after all. Luckily, Korra's reaction to learning about Combustion Man kept them both on track, and Sokka soon took her wonder as a cue to expand on that tale. "Yeah, they were pretty big all right… targeted, too. He'd been on our trail a couple of times when we were working our way through the Fire Nation, and we thought we'd finally lost him once we made our way to the Western Air Temple. Boy were we wrong… he found us and was trying to use his explosions to kill all of us, even if it destroyed the entire temple in the process." Sokka paused, shaking his head a little at that memory. "With the way his firebending worked, none of us could get close enough to actually land a hit. We all had to hide behind a big wall, but even then he just kept firing. Finally though, I was able to see the angle his firebending was coming from, so I took aim with my boomerang, and threw it… hitting him right where it hurt."

With his left index finger, Sokka pointed to the middle of his own forehead. "From there… he took care of himself with his own bending."

A few moments later, Sokka sheathed his boomerang, soon raising his eyebrows as Korra started to answer his question regarding the status of things in her time. He felt his lip curl involuntarily at the next mention of bloodbending. If a mob leader bloodbender wasn't bad enough, he'd raised his two sons to carry out his own dirty work? The whole concept of bloodbending brought back a slew of unpleasant memories for Sokka, and he soon found those less than happy thoughts met with new ones of aggravation at the tactics that this Yakone character's sons used… especially the one that made the Equalists. The underhanded, horribly misguided tactics of this Amon were enough to stir some ire that Sokka had not felt since they had faced off with Ozai. At hearing just the surface of this story, he didn't know which man was worse… but at least this tale ended with Korra saying she and her friend had been able to reveal Amon for what he was, seeing the way to a safe time again.

"No Korra, you're right… I agree with you," said Sokka, nodding solemnly as he crossed his arms. "I might not be a bender, but I do know that bending isn't evil or a problem. It's the same as a weapon or skill… on its own, it's a powerful tool that can be used to do many things. It's a part of you… but when something like that lands in the wrong hands is when the problem starts. When they use something for evil, selfish goals… that's the issue. It was the same thing with Ozai. I admit that it took me a long time to realize that the whole Fire Nation wasn't bad because of my history with them, but I learned that it was those that misused their power that were the problem… you can't generalize things. It's usually easier to do so, but that doesn't mean it's right."

Sokka let a pause pass before his expression softened, and he nodded to Korra before stating, "But I'm glad you were able to show what was right and expose Amon for what he was… and even more that things were safe back there. I'm sorry my friends and I couldn't leave the world with more peace for you, but I hope it was pretty good aside from all of that."

    Re: Water Tribe Reunited

Post by Korra on Tue Nov 06, 2012 9:52 pm

"Very handy!" This place seemed to be really reliant on 'being in the know'. There was just so much to learn about this place! It wasn't just a different time, it was an entirely different world as well, with different people, different cities, different animals. Just so completely...different. She wondered how people got used to how different things were here. Did it just take time? Either way, having Lin and now Sokka here made her feel better, more people from her world, if different times. "Yeah! Or at least somewhere on the same floor!" If they'd manage to get a room near each other, she'd be happy. "We might as well head to the inn now, since we're not doing anything but standing in the middle of the city."

Korra was looking forward to Sokka meeting Lin, and she was likewise eager to see how Lin would react! After all, with Sokka being her mother's friend, they must have been close when she was a kid! She'd probably be even more surprised and shocked than she was when she first saw Sokka!

"Its a deal then! You tell me your adventures, and I'll tell you mine! Yeah, I actually spent most of my training in the South Pole, so my adventures didn't really start until I went to Republic City to learn Airbending." She imagined it couldn't be fun to be on the run, it wasn't fun just dealing with the downsides of Republic City, but she was sure Sokka would have tons of interesting stories to share from the experiences! She couldn't help but smile back at Sokka's own smile. After all, she was telling him about his niece and nephews, and his great nieces and nephews! "I could tell you about them, sometime, if you want. I only briefly met Bumi, but I knew Kya and Tenzin pretty well! And of course, I'd be able to tell you all about the airbending babies. Especially Meelo." Her smile turned into an amused one as she thought of the odd little boy.

So Mr. Sparky Sparky Boom Man could even aim this strange firebending? The strange circumstances around this guy's firebending made her think of the type of bloodbending Yakone and Amon could do. Bending with just their mind...it was actually pretty scary when you think about it. Sokka went on, detailing how Combustion Man had been stalking them, even to the Western Air Temple. She'd never seen any of the Air Temples, herself, they must be so amazing! Although she frowned when Sokka mentioned that Combustion Man had been pretty careless with that fancy firebending of his, not caring if the temple went down in his attempts to take down Aang, sokka and the rest. Although of course, she wasn't much better herself. That was how she and Lin had met after all! But she never tried to be deliberately destructive. It just...kinda happened.

She nodded as he went on. Firebending with the mind probably wouldn't be easy to get close to, especially if he could see you coming. Behind a wall they went to, for cover, unable to attack as he kept hitting the wall with that odd firebending he had. But finally Sokka had managed to angle his boomerang and tossed it at him hitting in the head. And if his bending was psychic...that must have stopped it, or gotten in the way. "'Took care of himself with his own bending'? Eesh...that sounds kinda...messy." She winced a bit, just thinking of it.

Sokka listened intently to her story of Yakone and his sons, her eyebrows raising a bit at his curling lip when she'd mentioned bloodbending. But she understood. Sifu Katara had told her about bloodbending, and precisely how she had learned it in the first place. So she knew Sokka definitely understood how awful it felt to be bloodbent, your body moving so unnaturally against your will. Even more, Sokka agreeing with her made her gesture her arms at him wildly. "Thank you! Exactly!" This was especially great to hear considering that Sokka himself was a nonbender! And even without bending he found a way to be a great fighter! Just like Asami. "You're pretty wise for a 17 year old." She mused, impressed.

She smiled back at Sokka once more. "I'm glad too. For a while there, things looked like they weren't going to end up so well..." She frowned, thinking of how hopeless she felt without her bending. And even more, now that she thought about it, she had never gotten a chance to restore the bending of the people like Tehno, who'd had it taken away from them. Not that it mattered...seeing as they were all...she brushed the thought away and focused, catching Sokka's apology. "Oh its fine, I think you left as much peace as you could! After all, if the world stayed in peace all the time, it wouldn't need an Avatar, would it?" With balance came imbalance. And an Avatar was always needed to be there to maintain that balance, that harmony.

"Sure! Lead the way," said Sokka, nodding and gesturing forward at Korra's suggestion of the two of them heading on to the inn. The two of them had had quite the awesome reunion (or meeting? What would you call it when only one of you knew the other previously? And when time was messing with things like this? Re-meeting it was, then!), but it really would be best to continue this some place other than out in the open of this busy city. This way they could make sure that they wouldn't get run over by any of the passers-by, and that they could continue this great exchange of stories and information in an even better setting. If nothing else, the Water Tribe warrior was really looking forward to seeing this inn that he'd heard so much about already!

Following alongside Korra as the two got going towards the Stock Pot Inn, Sokka grinned at her exclamation that their sharing of tales of their adventures with each other was a deal. He was looking just as forward to hearing her stories as he was to telling his own, although he couldn't help but laugh slightly at her mention of most of her time being spent at the South Pole. "Oh, I'm sure you've got plenty of adventures from the South Pole… trust me, I grew up there too, and no matter where you are in it, there is plenty of adventure out there. Sometimes you've just got to look for it." Once she offered to tell him more about his future niece, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, Sokka's smile soon mirrored that of Korra's. Yeah, even with her own very distinct and different personality, somehow, he could still see just the slightest trace of Aang in her… at least with regards to her being kind and good-hearted. That offer… yeah, different times or not, that was just pretty neat. "That would be great…. I'd love to hear about them."

Sokka watched Korra's reactions to his story about Combustion Man, nodding to her at her question. "Not as much as you might think… but I was just glad that we got to escape with our lives. Let me tell ya, that was not a battle I'm ready to relive."

Once his agreement over bending itself not being a problem, Sokka couldn't help but grin at Korra's enthusiastic reaction. It looked like he'd already managed to make her day in another way, and she soon returned the favor for him with her impressed musing. Wise? Of course he was! And it was just great to have someone notice and appreciate that for once! "Why yes, I guess I am… ah, I mean, thank you! I mean I… try. Heh."

He nodded again as she thought back on how things almost turned out, right before shifting back to another smile at her statement regarding the world needing an Avatar. It looked like he wasn't the only one that had picked up some good wisdom here… given whom Korra had had to teach her though, Sokka couldn't say he was too surprised. "I guess you're right. But hey, new world or not, let's make sure our own brand of peace comes here with us. For the Water Tribe."
