The efforts of the trio were paying off in full as the already weakened Cy-Bugs now found themselves down two with the final one quite literally on its last legs. Sheik had not only caught the first monster with a powerful chain whip, she had brought down the third, metallic one with a tricky rein-like maneuver, and that only served as a prelude for Kev to take down the fiery Cy-Bug with the very flames it sought to take more of.

"Great job you two… now let's finish this off!" Impa kept her red gaze locked on the final Cy-Bug. A part of her was still curious about just what these creatures were and where they came from, but the important thing right now was that they were threatening her charge, her friend, and herself… and she was not about to let them prove victorious.

With only one monster left standing, it appeared that it was still focused on attacking Impa, and the Sage of Shadow was more than fine with that.

It's own blind rush for a powerful charge was a good plan in theory, but its focus on power instead of accuracy proved to be a fatal mistake as the Sheikah deftly dodged the mighty attack. As she rounded from her dodge, the Sheikah let her Shadow Blade dissipate as she produced six throwing needles in her right hand. Her focus ever steady, she waited for just the right moment before unleashing all six of them, hoping to end the battle right here.

The instant that she felt the metallic Cy-Bug starting to falter in its run, Sheik leapt from its back, landing several meters away. She let out a soft sigh of relief, and no sooner had the monster faded into nothingness than had she caught Kev's praise. She tossed a grateful grin over to him, just in time to see him prepare his flamethrower attack, and this round, he hit his mark more squarely than ever.

The metallic Cy-Bug was down, and with a perfect hit, Kev had sent the fiery one to join it. With a quiet fist pump, the disguised princess called, "And you as well, Kev!"

Now only the first and yet to be transformed Cy-Bug remained, and with a confident compliment and exclamation from Impa, it looked like she was set to take it down. She swiftly dodged its powerful attack, and in one smooth motion, had drawn and unleashed a flurry of throwing needles at the beast. Whilst they hit their marks well, the first one seemed to do just the trick, as a pained cry, good bit of thrashing, and final fall later, the first Cy-Bug proved to be the last Cy-Bug. A third thud echoed throughout the cavern, and the monster soon disappeared along with its two brethren.

They had done it… they had succeeded against these strange monsters that blocked their way to the fairy fountain.

Only now that the battle was over did Sheik allow herself to truly breathe a deeper sign of relief, and as she pulled down her cloth collar to let it sit around her neck instead of over her face, she could not help but smile broadly to both Impa and Kev. They both seemed to be fine, but even with as unexpected as that battle was, it had still been a good one… a great training exercise, and even better, something else they could all share now.

"That was a great attack, Impa," started Sheik, nodding to her guardian before glancing between her and Kev. "Are you both all right?" Save a few scrapes, forming bruises, and burns, they all seemed to be relatively okay… but there was no harm in checking, even if there was a fairy fountain not too far from them.

Kev's flamethrower hit the bug in the face this time, really sizzling and burning it up! That bug keeled over and soon faded away, Kev stepping back from it and cracking his knucles. That was two down and one to go! "Wow these things are resilient, huh?" But they had almost taken the three of them down, now! Just had to be careful that they didn't accidentally give the last Cy-bug an edge on them like he unwittingly had with the one he just downed. Sheik congratulated Kev in return and he nodded to the boy. "Thanks!~"

The last Cy-bug charged towards Impa, trying to get in an attack even though it was doomed. Between the three of them they ought to down him quickly! Impa dodged him quickly, and her sword disappeared. In its place were 6 needles that she threw at it, a few striking it. That seemed to do the trick though as the bug let out a pained cry before falling over and fading as its friends had. "WHOO! We each got one! Great job guys~!" He clapped his hands together eagerly.

He nodded to Sheik calmly. "Yeah, I'm good! Not near death or nothing like that~! How about you, Impa?" Would they need to take a little breather?

Although her needles hit their mark, the first one in particular made a critical strike. With a final pained screech and a mighty thud, the third and final Cy-Bug fell, soon fading away just as the other two had around Kev's triumphant exclamation. Only once she was absolutely certain it was gone and that no others were going to appear did Impa allow a slight smile to grace her features, just before she stood back to her full height. With another look over the settled battlefield of the cavern's floor, the Sheikah turned round to look to Kev and Sheik, glad to see that both her friend and charge were fine in the wake of that encounter.

Impa smiled and nodded her thanks to the disguised princess' compliment, shortly looking to Kev as he confirmed that he was in fact all right after this fight. Nodding once more to both him and Sheik, Impa stated, "I am just fine… and even better at knowing you both are." She did take another appraising glance of her charge to see that she was in fact fine save the few minor injuries she had sustained in the encounter, but her Eyes of Truth did prove that Sheik was all right. Even without a fairy fountain around the next bend or so, they would all be okay, but it was still encouraging to know that they could be healed up in short order.

With everyone checked on, Impa motioned forward, noting, "Now then… how about we finish seeking what we came down here for? Based on the layout of this grotto, we should be very close."

As soon as all three of them were set, the Sheikah began to lead the way deeper into the cavern. The rock structure and colorations still seemed to be the same, but after a little while longer, things seemed to smooth out a bit, almost as though they really had found something different down here. Was this the fairy fountain they had detected? Only one way to find out!

Kev could not have describe the Cy-Bugs better… resilient was honestly the best word that fit their new, adaptable foes, and although Sheik knew that this was a very good battle experience, she felt that if they ever faced any of these things again, it would be too soon. They were strong and very durable, but they were certainly not invincible, as was proven as all three of them were brought down by their retaliation.

As soon as the Cy-Bug Impa had engaged fell and they were all regrouped, Sheik was glad to confirm that both Kev and Impa were safe. They might have each sustained a few light wounds in the fight, but they were nothing that they couldn't handle, and that much stood regardless of the fairy fountain that they were so very close to. Now once they happened to find it, around getting healed up, Sheik could hardly wait to see Kev's reaction at seeing the fountain… they were just as calming as they were gorgeous, and she was certainly intrigued to see what he might think since he had never seen one before.

Once the trio each confirmed that they were all right from the scuffle, Sheik could not help but grin at Impa's suggestion. With a strong nod to her guardian, she stated, "Of course. Let's go find the fountain!"

With that, Kev, Impa, and Sheik all pressed forward, heading deeper into the grotto. The disguised princess was able to tell that the structure, whilst the same, did start to have some clues that meant a fairy fountain was very, very close… it just… felt like one. A few steps further, as the stones began to smooth a bit, she glanced up to Kev, noting, "I think we're almost there… are you ready to see your first fairy fountain?"

Three Cy-bugs were down and all three of them were quite fine! A little shaken perhaps, definitely beaten a bit, but they'd live! Live on and kick more bruuka, if they had to! He brushed his hands together and straightened his clothes up. A little scuffed, but they'd make due! He'd been through a lot in these clothes and he never tossed them away. Though he also had some spares...but still. "I'm glad you both are alright! Those things were a lot more stubborn than those red things we fought..." Impa motioned forward and he was quick to follow, as was Sheik.

"Yes, the fountain!" Hopefully they didn't have to fight anything else, though he was also a little sad that they were close to it now. He was having so much fun, and if they found the fountain that meant they'd have to split ways again. All good things must come to an end though, and he was definitely enjoying the time he was spending with these two. It let him get to know them more! They could always find something to do in the future.

Deeper into the cavern they went, the rock formations getting progressively smoother. He glanced down to Sheik and nodded. "Oh yes! I can't wait to see what it'll look like!" With a name like 'fairy fountain', he imagined a water fountain with fairies all around, though he knew it was unlikely. "I bet it'll be pretty!"

Post by Impa on Fri Jan 24, 2014 4:53 am

Impa dusted off her armor a little, unable to suppress a smile at Kev's happy sentiment now that the battle was over. The Cy-Bugs had certainly proven more tenacious than the Bokoblins… and surprisingly enough, they seemed to be even more vicious than Moblins of any size. Whilst the fight had proven to be a good challenge, even the Sheikah had to admit that she hoped she didn't have to face anything like them for quite some time.

As Kev and Sheik followed after her, Impa's eyebrows soon raised in curiosity as the stones began to smooth out, their natural blueish-grey hues becoming even more evident with each step they took. Once both her charge and friend voiced their enthusiasm for the subject of their quest, the Sage of Shadow's ears perked up ever so slightly as not only could she tell that the dim light of the cavern was starting to become a little less so, but that she could hear the soft, gentle sound of red fairies.

At finding both a fairy fountain itself as well as another piece of Hyrule, Impa's expression soon shifted to a pleased grin, and right as their feet hit a flat, carefully laid stone path, she looked towards Sheik and Kev with a steady nod. "I believe we're here."

Sure enough, a few steps more down the stone path, and just what laid at the end of it became visible. Before them stood a circular pool of water, surrounded by a short, stone wall, and in the middle of it all was a formation of six columns. Above the shallow pool was more stonework, a circular structure that rest atop the columns. It was all simple in design, but still decorated vibrantly, and alongside that, it felt as though there was a pleasant source of heat gently radiating about the chamber. As welcoming as it all was though, what was most striking within the architecture were those that lived here… no fewer than a score of red fairies.

Once Kev, Sheik, and Impa had arrived just at the edge of the pool, Impa glanced back to the Kryptonistanian, giving him a knowing nod before slowly stepping out towards the center of the fountain. Turning around to see the disguised princess following after her, the Sage of Shadow gestured for Kev to join both of them a few steps further. It was not long before a single fairy flew about her, encircling her with with a small trail of sparkles as it seemed to heal all of the injuries she had sustained earlier. As the fairy vanished from its spot before taking flight across the pool once more, the Sheikah stated, "Welcome to the fairy fountain, Kev."

Around a fun adventure for all three of them, they had found just what they had been searching for… and Impa could scarcely have been more pleased.

Sheik chuckled a little at Kev's relieved words and assessment of the battle, soon shifting to brush off her tunic and adjust it slightly. Like Kev, both the disguised princess and Impa had spare outfits, but they had each been through quite a bit in the ensembles they wore now. The disguise that Sheik wore though was still on the newer side for her, as she had hit quite the growth spurt in the year before she was pulled to the Breach. She had grown a little since arriving here, but thankfully, not enough to warrant a newer version of her outfit just yet.

Eagerly following after her guardian, Sheik smiled a little as she reflected on their journey up until now. It had certainly been fun, and whilst she did not want to face monsters like those Cy-Bugs anytime soon, she was very glad for the wonderful time that she and Impa had been able to share with Kev. She could tell that her guardian had enjoyed it just as much as she had, and as Kev voiced his own excitement for what they were about to see, the disguised princess grinned a bit before noting, "It will be… no matter how fairy fountains might look across any point in Hyrule's time, each of them is really nice."

As soon as the path before them revealed itself to not only be even, carefully laid stones as well as a bit brighter, Sheik's red eyes widened in disbelief. Looking ahead, she took in a slow, deep breath as she realized that what she was seeing really there. It was a fairy fountain… just like the ones she had been to in Hyrule. From the soft, inviting air about the chamber, to every stone set in just the right place… it was exactly the same.

The end of the cavern was just as calming as it was gorgeous, and as the disguised princess stepped forward towards the main stonework, she exchanged a quick glance with Impa before watching her guardian move towards the center of the pool. Her awestruck expression was soon more visible as she pulled down the collar of her tunic, and with a broad smile to Kev, Sheik moved to take a tentative step into the shallow water.

A rush of welcome familiarity bolted through her system as her foot made the initial, soft splash, and in short order, she had followed right after Impa. It did not take long before one of the red fairies approached her, soon circling about her and instantly healing her wounds. Sheik laughed as she nodded her thanks to the fairy, and as soon as to vanished toward the other side of the pool, she looked to Kev, inwardly hoping that he was just as if not more amazed by this sight as she had been the first time she had seen a fairy fountain.

No matter how many times one visited one though, it was always a wonderful, refreshing experience.

After some many rounds of fighting, it was good to see a smile and hear a chuckle again! Better than the sounds of battle, pained yells, and hurt cries. Hopefully from here on out was smooth sailing, though the fights did make for an interesting little adventure! After Impa they followed, the stone becoming smoother, and even bluer! How mystical! There seemed to be more light too! The sun? Or some other magical reason for such? There also was some sort of...noise? He almost thought it meant another attack, but since his companions were still calm, he took that to mean it was harmless. "Ooh, really? Guess we'll be in for a treat when we find it, then!" He was quite excited, now. With each step, they were closer than ever!

He looked ahead as Impa spoke, their path ended into a very clear stone path and up ahead, a series of columns! As well as some little floaty things...were those fairies? The columns seemed to be around a pool of water, with a little stone wall surrounding it as well! "So its a literal fairy fountain! I have no idea what else I was expecting though! But this is neat!"

As they made their way closer to it, he could feel some type of warmth emitting from it, though it was very welcome. When they came right up to the pool, Impa suddenly walked into the water! With a smile, Sheik followed soon after. He lingered outside, a bit more hesitant. Especially when the little fairies flew around them, though they seemed to heal them both right up! Urged on by that, he decided to step in and wade after the two. "This is weird, but really incredible!" The fairies flew around him as well, wounds healing as Kev let out a pleased sigh. "Rrr~!" Definitely useful! Definitely worth it, too.

Re: The Quest for a Fairy Fountain

Post by Impa on Sun Jan 26, 2014 10:09 pm

"That it is," stated Impa, nodding as Kev voiced his assessment of the beautiful sight before them. It made plenty of sense that Kev had no idea what to expect as whilst the name of a fairy fountain implied the presence of both fairies and water, it did not exactly describe its appearance. Even then, fairy fountains did vary somewhat over the centuries in Hyrule… that much had been confirmed from the future Link as well as her own books on their homeworld. They all still had the same calming, warming aura though, and whether one was a standard fairy fountain or even a Great Fairy fountain, they were all true safe havens.

Impa smiled broadly as she watched Sheik's enthusiasm jump as soon as the welcome surprise of their true return to the fairy fountain had fully settled in for her, and very shortly, her charge had followed after her to the center of the pool. After watching two of the fairies heal each of them, Kev hesitated for a few moments, but soon set foot in the shallow water as well and joined the duo. Another red fairy moved to tend to his wounds, and as her friend let out a contented sigh, the Sheikah felt that now more than ever, their quest had most certainly been worth it.

"I'm glad you like it, Kev," said Impa. She stood there for a few moments, simply enjoying the peace of the fairy fountain before moving to pull out an empty glass bottle. With a nod to Sheik, the Sage of Shadow glanced back to their friend, noting, "Now then, whilst it's great to know that we will always have this fairy fountain here to stop at and be healed, one of the best things about fairies is that they can be kept with you in a bottle. It's completely safe for them and it's not too unlike looking after someone for a while… the main difference aside from their self-sufficiency is the fact that when your life energy is depleted, they can appear and heal you."

At that, Impa carefully swept her bottle forward, deftly catching a nearby fairy right inside of the bottle. Corking the bottle and holding it up for Kev to see, she explained, "They can instantly appear when your life energy is completely gone and help revive you, but they're usually most effective if you call on their aid before you reach that point. You've already felt their effects here... and now you can use the same when you might need it next."

With a knowing smile, Impa handed the fairy in a bottle to Kev, making sure that it was secure in his grasp before pulling her hand back. They had traveled out this way to see about finding a fairy fountain, and sure enough, they had been successful… and now, they had one place they could always return to for their powerful healing magic. So long as they had empty bottles, they could always have at least one fairy on their persons.

Impa soon moved to catch another couple of fairies of her own and once Sheik had gently caught her own as well, the Sheikah nodded to her charge before glancing back about the fairy fountain. With a satisfied sigh she turned to Kev and gestured back towards the direction they had come from. "Let's head on back."

They had all had a very fun quest… and it would certainly tide them over until the next one.

Re: The Quest for a Fairy Fountain

Post by Zelda/Sheik on Sun Jan 26, 2014 11:20 pm

The fairy fountain was a treat indeed, as no matter how many times someone came across one, they were always lovely and incredibly refreshing. The sanctuary they offered extended even beyond the healing properties of the fairies that were found in them, as whether one simple stumbled across such a chamber or actively sought it around a perilous adventure, they certainly offered a much welcome reprieve.

As Sheik nodded to both Kev's exclamation regarding the fountain and Impa's confirmation, she noted, "Every single one of them is… I'm happy we've got the chance to show you one, Kev!"

Shortly after the disguised princess had followed after her guardian, she turned round to see that with a moment's hesitation, Kev soon moved to follow after both of them. Mere moments after he had joined them in the center of the pool, one of the red fairies had flown around him too, ensuring that all three of them had been completely healed from their earlier wounds. Sheik could understand how the fairy fountain might seem weird to Kev considering how unique they were, especially to those not from Hyrule, but she was glad he was able to see past the unfamiliar chamber and take note of how amazing it truly was. Fairy fountains were something the disguised princess had encountered for the first time when she was very young, but each visit was always a good experience, and this one was no exception. In a sense, this one was particularly special… namely since she and Impa had got to share it with their friend.

"So am I," added Sheik, echoing her agreement to Impa's statement. As Kev let out a pleased sigh, the disguised princess grinned a bit more, right before looking about to take all of this in. The trio enjoyed the soothing calm of the fairy fountain for a few more moments before Impa produced one of the empty glass bottles she had on her person, soon moving to gently catch a fairy inside of it.

With her guardian's explanation to Kev about how fairies could heal, Sheik nodded at this deeper expansion of what had first been touched on before they set out on this quest. The basic concept of healing fairies had been mentioned then, but it was even more effective for their friend to learn more about their magical properties now that he could see one in person, and of course observe how he could catch one for himself at a later date.

Once Impa had handed the first bottled fairy off to Kev, Sheik waited a few moments before stating, "It might seem odd to catch them in bottles, but… that's just how they work. Link and Link's fairy companions have assured us that healing fairies are just fine in bottles. They're really sturdy and can take great care of themselves, so as long as you keep them safe until you need their help, they'll be set to heal you in no time. I hope you don't have to use their magic anytime soon, but… I'm glad you'll have it just in case."

As Impa caught another fairy, Sheik caught a trio of them in three empty bottles, intending to have one for herself and to surprise both Link and Link with their own bottled fairies. it did not take her much time to gently catch the fairies and safely cork the bottles, and once they were safely stowed away, the disguised princess looked up to her guardian at her pleased sigh. With a soft smile and a nod to both Impa and Kev, Sheik nodded at her guardian's gesture, noting, "Yeah… let's."

The initial adventure was over, but they still had the trek home… and best of all, they had the chance for plenty of new adventures well ahead of them.

Note to self, come to fairy fountains more often! This was definitely better than a hospital, he didn't go to that place often anyway, and a lot better than waiting around for his body to heal up on its own! "This definitely makes up for all the fighting we had to do to get here!" What a considerate fountain! He gave the little fairies a wave and swished the water around with his hands. All fountains were like this, huh? Perhaps not in exact sight but in amazing beauty and stuff, definitely. "Your world is pretty great to have had so many of these things!" He chuckled slightly at their appreciation of his liking the place. "Like it? I love it!" Impa took out a bottle suddenly, Kev making his way towards her to get a good look. Right, right, that's why they were here in the first place!

He was especially glad for Impa's explanation because he was a little confused. Thoughts of forcing fairy food down into a bottle buzzed in his cranium. "So they'll be 100% okay in that bottle?" Odd, but hey, that was fairies for ya! The fact that such a fairy could heal you when your health was depleted was especially useful. He watched as she caught one and held the bottle up. So as good as they were for reviving, they were even best for healing like this fountain had done! "That's so great! Because I'm not especially fond of the hospital." Snip snip. Impa handed the bottle over to him and he grabbed it with both hands securely. Sheik spoke up then, putting aside his worries that the fairies would be unhappy or unhealthy inside the glass. "I hope not too, but its always best to have a back up plan, right?" He winked to the young boy playfully. He redirected his attention back to the bottle and peeked at the fairy inside while Impa and Sheik got their own fairies.

As soon as the two were ready, Kev followed along behind them. The bottle was held closely to his chest so as to not jostle the fairy inside too much. "Yes! Here's hoping we don't have to fight anything on the way home though!" Thanks to Impa and Sheik though, what had started off as a depressing day had turned into a fortuitous and adventurous one. And for that, he was grateful.
