Hearing that Impa looked forward to seeing him use his power was sort of flattering! The shield still held, and Kev's hesitating hand finally touched it, admiring how...different it felt. Different and familiar. It was like touching a wall! He rubbed it a bit as well!

"You're welcome!" He said with a happy nod, at Impa's thanks. On his question, Impa and Sheik shared a glance and Impa began to explain. Naryu was the Goddess of Wisdom, one of three. As she explained more, Kev understood. The shield was a sign of the Goddess' love, and lo, the name that seemed so odd. "Ah, I see! That's pretty clever!"

Impa asked Sheik to help demonstrate what the spell could do, and Kev took a few cautious steps back. Sheik was opposite of him, and he watched with interest. Impa moved a bit as well. Suddenly, four needles began to fly towards Impa, followed by a bit of the fire from before. Unconsciously anticipating the attacks to hit, Kev flinched, but the needles bounced off harmlessly and the fire seemed to be driven off by the shield as well!

He clasped his hands, excited. "That wasn't just neat, that was great! That's an amazing spell! And good job yourself on the needles and fire, Sheik!~" He praised, impressed with the skills of the two before him.

"Thanks Kev," said Sheik, grinning to the Kryptonistanian at his high compliments. Watching Impa pull of Nayru's Love with the ease that she had not only inspired the disguised princess to work her way back to her true power even sooner, it also brought back very many memories to her. Whilst she had continued to learn magic well after she had first taken up the guise of Sheik, Zelda had first learned the spell of Nayru's Love even before she had first met Link. Granted, in the time of peace they had had, there was not much use for the spell then, but it had still been very useful to learn.

The training expedition that she and Impa were having today certainly took Sheik back to the many that they had had in their homeland of Hyrule… learning magic, or frankly having any of her lessons with her guardian had always been one of her absolute favorite things to do. And now, she was glad that she still got to continue that. Between sharing time doing just about anything with Impa, hanging out with either Link, or even getting to visit any of the new friends she had made here, the Sheikah in training was definitely thrilled that such a strange turn of events that had brought her to this world had taken a very grand turn for her.

Impa held the spell for a little while longer before the blue diamond of Nayru's Love began to flash, disappearing completely after a few more moments. She had smiled and nodded at Kev's praise, glad that their friend seemed so entranced by some of the spells from Hyrule. The venture out into the grasslands today had already proven to be a great one, and definitely a good exercise for all three present with their varied abilities. Unable to resist a slightly broad grin as Kev excitedly clasped his hands together, Impa laughed slightly before stating, "I'm glad you liked all of that, Kev."

The Sheikah paused for a moment, thinking over her words before voicing them. Given the way that Kev liked to learn all sorts of new things, perhaps he might like to know where such a spell was found back in Hyrule. If nothing else, it could add to the duo's growing knowledge about each others home worlds.

"That spell is an interesting one, in that it can be learned one of two ways,"
explained Impa. "One, you can discover the spell for yourself, and through proper practice and training be able to cast it… I actually found the spell on my own before honing my skills with it, and then I taught it to Sheik once he was ready to learn it. The other way is to have it bestowed upon upon you. In one of the furthest reaches of our kingdom, there is actually a Great Fairy Fountain where a fairy lives, and to those who are able to prove their worth, she will grant the spell to them."

"You're very welcome, Sheik!" He nodded at her happily before turning his attention back to Impa as her spell disappeared. He shrugged good naturedly at her comment. "What can I say, I'm easy to please! Even then though, that was some great work! I'm still trying to comprehend how great and useful that spell is!" Amazed, thy name is Kev!

Impa continued, and what she said made him curious. You could learn that spell besides just reading a book and waving a wand?...In this case, fancy hand movements? It seemed the two ways were discovering the spell and training and practicing how to use it, the way Impa and Sheik learned. And the other way...finding the Fairy Fountain and proving your worth. The fairy would then grant the spell to you.

Needless to say, the idea of somehow being able to use a great protective spell like that was an idea Kev could really get behind! "Do you think Portal Breach would have a Fairy Fountain..?" Oh, the possibilities! "I'd sure love knowing such a spell! Next time I get into a big ole fight and some guy tries killing me, I can be all 'NAYRU'S LOVE' and they won't be able to hit me!~"

But then again...he'd have to prove his worth. What kind of worth could he have? He was just...Kev. Friendly, sure. Loyal, yes. A good friend, of course! But that wasn't very worthy to a magical fairy, right? Surely, she'd be more impressed with magical prowess and fighting abilities.

"Or...or maybe not. Sounds like it'd be too hard anyways....is it hard?" He asked, almost hesitantly.

Sheik returned Kev's happy nod with one of her own. Ever since she had first officially met the Kryptonistanian, she had caught an air that he was easy to please, but that was by no means a bad thing. To the disguised princess, it simply added to his charm and already very sweet personality. It was wonderful having been reunited with Impa and the Link from her world here on Portal Breach, but whether it was the future Link, Kev, or any of the other friends she had started to make, Sheik was just happy and honored to have all of them. Having been swept here definitely had its advantages, to say the very least!

Listening in as Impa began to detail the ways that one could learn certain complex magic spells, Sheik couldn't help but grin a bit at Kev's sudden excitement, her expression shifting to one of sympathy once a hint of hesitation became apparent in his voice at his last question. Poor Kev… there was nothing to worry about with the faires! No matter what fairy they might ever meet, they were bound to find him a worthy mortal to receive magic. Still… that idea brought on something entirely new. Just how likely were they to find a fairy fountain on Portal Breach, much less one with a Great Fairy inside of it?

Ever since she had arrived at the Stock Pot Inn, Sheik had wondered about the existence of any fairy fountains in this world. It made complete sense that at least one might be here, what with the way that locations as well as people could appear on the world, but the likelihood of it being a Great Fairy Fountain was not very high.

"It's not hard at all, Kev," said Sheik, holding up a clenched fist as if to prove that it wasn't and to show her friend that she had confidence in him regardless.

"Thank you, Kev… and it most certainly is. Any technique, be it physical or magical, can became a great boon both in and out of battle," stated Impa, sharing a smile with her charge and friend as she recrossed her arms and adjusted her posture. She was simply pleased that the Kryptonistanian thought so highly of the skill she had demonstrated… it appeared to have been a nice exchange for both of them… and definitely another slight boost for Kev.

Impa didn't fail to catch the curious look in Kev's eyes as she explained the different ways to obtain the spell of Nayru's Love and its sister spells. That he seemed to be so intrigued by all of this piqued the Sheikah's own interest, and as soon as he asked about the possibility of Portal Breach having a Fairy Fountain, she couldn't help but raise her own eyebrows. A thoughtful smile tugged at the corners of her lips, and whilst she definitely liked Kev's attitude and enthusiasm for potentially learning Nayru's Love, the Sage of Shadow's inner thoughts were already taking off. Was there a Fairy Fountain on Portal Breach? Neither she nor Link had found one yet, but then again, with the Lon Lon Milk they had they hadn't had as urgent a need to… and they hadn't sought one out yet… perhaps that was something that she and her four charges could work on during one of their next outings…

In the meantime though, perhaps she, Sheik, and Kev could go about finding one themselves…

It was entirely possible that the trio could find a Fairy Fountain this afternoon… the chance of it being a Great Fairy Fountain though was far slimmer. Still, they could most certainly set out and find something… it could be a fine quest for all three of them regardless of what they journey brought them. Smiling softly to Kev, Impa took a step closer to him, nodding at Sheik's words before speaking herself.

"It is very possible that a Fairy Fountain has wound up here… I have to admit though, I am not certain if we would find a Great Fairy Fountain on the Breach. Learning the magic is quite easy… finding the fountain in the first place is the difficult part,"
said Impa. Her expression remained thoughtful, and that slight smile soon shifted to a slightly deeper one. "However… even if it was just a regular Fairy Fountain, that could still be something very useful for all three of us. Small fairies cannot bestow magical spells on those that hold them… but… they are capable of restoring ones health with their own magic."

"Welcome Impa~!" He said, nodding in agreement with her. In fact, anything that could be learned was a 'boon' both in the place it happened in and outside of it. That was always Kev's view at least! And he was usually quite eager to learn things.

Young Sheik help up an eager fist and insisted that it wasn't that hard at all. Kev grabbed up the young boy and hugged him, giving him a small joyful noogie. A way of thanking him for the encouragement without coming right and saying 'Thanks'. "If its not that hard, than I oughta try then, huh? Don't have anything else to do!" Indeed he didn't. He gave a small glance to the cottage, almost longing, and sighed as he placed the young boy down and ruffled his hair, listening as Impa spoke next.

Possible? Promising! But the likelihood of the Fairy Fountain being a Great one seemed less possible. And finding it was harder than any other type of magical shenanigans. But even if its just a normal one, it would have something for all of them! "Restoring one's health? Nice! I'm liking this idea." He looked between the two of them, his earlier eagerness returning.

"I wouldn't mind going on a trip with you two to this fountain at all. No matter what we find! I bet it will be a promising little adventure for us, and let us get to know each other even more!~" He clasped his hands together happily.

Sheik grinned as Kev suddenly caught her in a hug, soon closing her right eye as she braced herself for the short, playful noogie. It didn't hurt and she certainly appreciated the joyful sentiment of the action, but at the same time, she was at least a little grateful that she'd had the bandages wrapped around the top of her head to help absorb some of his energetic thank you.

"No matter what happens, trying is always worth it," said Sheik, nodding in agreement with Kev's statement as her friend set her down. Another hair ruffle later, and the disguised princess looked to the Kryptonistanian, watching his gaze shift from the cottage to Impa. As her guardian explained the likelihood of finding different fairy fountains on the Breach, Sheik couldn't help but get a bit excited at the prospect of discovering one. Whether it was a simple grotto full of the pink, health-restoring fairies or even the cavern of a Great Fairy, being able to find another part of Hyrule here would definitely be pretty neat. Granted, it would also be bittersweet, as that Hyrule of a certain timeline would no longer be there, but as ever, the knowledge of the differing time streams was very helpful in keeping everything in perspective regarding such appearances.

Nodding at Kev's question regarding what the fairies were capable of doing, Sheik soon smiled broadly as he mentioned going on an adventure with them. The idea of embarking on a quest with both Impa and Kev was a wonderful one to the disguised princess, as was getting to know her alien friend even better. Turning to Impa with a hopeful look in her eyes, Sheik began to mentally prepare herself for wherever they set off to next. No matter what, this was bound to be an incredible day now!

    Re: Prelude to a Quest

Post by Impa on Tue Oct 02, 2012 9:40 pm

Impa simply smiled at the playful exchange between Sheik and Kev. Whilst she knew that the princess was very close friends with both of the Links and that she was starting to get to know Aicara, it always did her heart good to see her making new friends. This increased bond between her charge and her own friend was definitely nice to see, and when Kev mentioned how this quest could help them all get to know each other better, Impa nodded to second that thought. The idea of finding a secret grotto full of fairies was wonderful all on its own, but the quest that could lead to them was certain to be even more rewarding. After all, regardless of ones goals, a quest was so much more about its journey than its destination.

"I couldn't agree more, Kev," stated Impa, her own smile broadening a bit as she saw the Kryptonistanian's eagerness return in full. "A chance to strengthen this bond and search for another part of Hyrule sounds like a fine start to a quest to me. And if we are to look for a fairy fountain… then we are in just the right place to do so."

At that, Impa gestured to the side towards the sprawling fields of the grasslands. Somewhere across their vast plains was the most likely place to find a fairy fountain of any kind. Between her own exploration of this world as well as any of the adventures she had gone on with the Link from her time, the future Link, Aicara, or Zelda, the Sage of Shadow had learned that whilst the world of Portal Breach tended to pull people into the city once they arrived here, when it came to locations, they were usually placed in an area that held the most connection to their original world. Given that, there were a few other places that a fairy fountain might exist, such as the forest, the mountains, or even the ice lands, but whether something had wound up there or not, the grasslands still seemed to be the best place to start the search.

"We would love to have you join us Kev," said Impa, not failing to catch the hopeful look from Sheik. "If you have anything else you need to gather from your home before we set out, feel free to get it. Otherwise, Sheik and I are ready when you are."

Sheik wrote:"No matter what happens, trying is always worth it."

"Amen to that, Sheik!" Kev chuckled, holding out a fist for the smaller boy to pound. Of course, being from another time and even place, it was entirely possible that Sheik might be confused be Kev holding out his fist like this. What the young boy had said was so true though. He'd rather pass on the story of the time he tried to find a Fairy Fountain, instead of just telling others how the idea for such a quest came up, but Kev decided to stay home instead.

He turned to Impa, looking out at the grasslands as she gestured to them. "That'd be extremely convenient if there was one out here!" So close, so easy! Yes, so convenient! And through PB logic, this of course meant it likely wouldn't be here. Cause if things ever are that easy? Something would happen to make it not so. But oh well. He was eager to do this now, a trip, a quest with friends, something that was nice and distracting. And as much as he liked these two, this was the first time outside of the Sanctuary or just another event in PB that he had been around them. Time to really get to know them would be quite fine.

She inquired about anything he'd need to get, and Kev rubbed at his chin, thinking. "I don't really need anything...there's rivers here, so water's taken care of. As long as the sun shines I'll be fit, foodwise. I'm pretty low maintenance!" He glanced back at the cottage though. "I do have the animals to take care of...in case this takes longer than expected. I'll be right back!" Giving the two a brief wave, he ran back to the cottage, giving the dogs and cat that greeted him a few soft pets. "Listen guys, daddy's gonna go on a trip with his friends for a little bit! But don't worry!" He walked into the kitchen, Zeke the brainbot following and watching as Kev filled the food bowls til they overflowed, and filled the water to the brim. He turned to the brainbot and wrapped his arms around the little robot.

"Zekey, you have a very important job. Make sure these stay full." He nodded his head to indicate the bowls. "And if the dogs bark at the door, let them out so they can potty! Understand, Zekey Wekey?~" Zeke bowged and bobbed in the air, a nod, and Kev scratched the bottom of his robot body. "That's daddy's good boy!~" He cooed, stroking his dome before zooming back out the door. "I'll be back guys, I promise!" He walked back to the two of them, a pep in his step for the first time since he'd read Leslie and Ophelia's note.

"Ready!~ Do you two need anything before we go?" He asked curiously.

Sheik nodded to Kev, soon smiling yet again when her friend held out his fist to her. The specific gesture known as the "fist bump" or "bro fist" was not exactly known in Hyrule, but she had been on the Breach long enough to see it in action and learn about it. If nothing else, the newly created gesture between herself and the two Links (only later cleverly dubbed as the "Tri-five") helped her figure out what Kev was going for here. Sheik in turn held out her fist as well, and very gently bumped it against her friend's outstretched one.

The disguised princess' thoughts rather mirrored Kev's as they started to get prepared to set out. She had first really got to know Kev when they were all split up into teams back during the events of the reformat… and save a couple of times seeing him in the sanctuary before now, this was going to be her first true chance to get to hang out with him and thus known him even better.

Listening as Kev detailed how low maintenance he was, Sheik nodded and returned his wave once he dashed back to his cottage. The mention of the animals he had was certainly intriguing, and the disguised princess couldn't help but think that she hoped she might get to meet them soon, whether it was sometime directly after this quest or another time all together.

As Kev ran off to tend to his cottage, Zelda turned to Impa, asking, "Do you think we'll find one pretty close to here?"

"Indeed it would…" mused Impa at Kev's statement over the convenience of finding a nearby fairy fountain. She wasn't sure how far they might have to search for one, but given the hidden grottoes that seemed to be fairly abundant in the vast expanse of the fields, if they did not find a fairy fountain, they were at least likely to find clues that might lead them to one.

Impa nodded at Kev's response to her making certain he was set, unable to suppress a slightly smile at his remarks regarding how he didn't need anything else with regards to food. She and Zelda had had a very big lunch before they had set out, so they would be set for the next while… although the Sheikah had made sure to take a couple bottles of Lon Lon Milk along just in case. It might not have been a true meal in a bottle, but with its fine taste and amazing restorative properties, it might as well have been.

Returning Kev's wave as he ran back to his cottage, Impa called out, "All right, Kev. Take your time!" She might not have ever been into his cottage, but the Sheikah could tell that the Kryptonistanian had quite the cozy one, and the presence of his animals there was sure to be a great boost for that. In a way, his abode reminded her of many of the homes in Kakariko Village, and that alone was a comforting thought.

Impa turned to Zelda when she spoke, soon smiling a bit and nodding at the princess' question. "I'm not certain exactly how close one might be, but if you think of each of the fairy fountains in Hyrule, and even more the grottoes in Hyrule Field, the grasslands are the perfect place to start the search," explained Impa. "You might recall this is where Link and I went on a quest to find our new Lon Lon cows. No matter what we find, we are set for a great adventure regardless."

Zelda grinned and nodded firmly to Impa, right before turning her smile back to Kev as he returned to the duo. Shaking her head in response to his question, Sheik turned to Impa, watching her guardian to make sure that they truly were ready.

    "We're all set,"
replied Impa, nodding to Kev. "If we're all ready then… let's set out."

At that, the Sheikah began to head off into the grasslands with Sheik and Kev by her sides. The day already had a wonderful start to it, and now, it was bound to get even better.
