    A Whole New Test

If there was one thing Chell had concluded about the city in the short time she'd been there, it was that it was completely and utterly overwhelming.

Not that she was about to complain about her good fortune, oh no, she knew better than to take being dropped into what was essentially paradise for granted. It was just that she had gone for weeks without seeing another sentient being -much less a human- to suddenly being surrounded by people and activity and noise, everywhere, all of it blending together to the point where she couldn't pinpoint where each invidual sound was coming from anymore.

She was, to put it bluntly, experiencing the culture shock of her life.

The city the woman had found herself in was called Portal City, if the large flashing sign she'd gotten a glance of was to be believed, and it was, in a sense, huge. Buildings, bigger than any she had ever seen in her time on the surface, towered over her everywhere she went, some of them reminding her uncomfortably of the testing spheres she'd seen in her journey through Old Aperture. The people were completely bizarre - in that some weren't even people at all, many of them creatures and animals she couldn't even begin to identify mixed in among the humaniods. It had been concerning, to say the least, but it had also been just the tip off she'd needed to confirm that this definitely wasn't her Earth.

Of course, given the state she'd found her Earth to be in, the fact that these people were even there gave this world points in her book, she thought as she continued her trek through the city. The big question here was 'why.' Why was she here in the first place? Now that she had found civilization, the former test subject realized she wasn't entirely sure how to handle this one. She had no money, no worldly possesions other than her cube and the clothes on her back, nothing that could help her start a new life. She certainly didn't have any friends here, and talking to people... wasn't exactly her forte. Accepting that she was stuck in this new world until further notice was easy, but figuring out how to settle down was already making itself out to be a very complicated test indeed.

Speaking of which, the circumstances that had brought her here still nagged at the back of her mind as well. She hadn't gotten a good enough look at the thing to determine whether or not it was one of Her portals, but the more Chell thought about it, the more it seemed too good to be true - this sort of trick was eerily like something GLaDOS would pull. That thought alone was enough to cause her to glance warily at her surroundings as she continued aimlessly along, almost as if she half expected the world to start crumbling down around her.

Finally, after what seemed like hours of walking and steadily increasing paranoia, she found a light at the end of the tunnel - a park, clean, organic, and quiet just ahead, practically inviting her inside. The woman let out a relieved huff as she entered the sanctuary, thankful she could find a place to just be for a while. It had been a long, overly stimulating day, and although it currently looked to be sometime during the afternoon, she knew by her body clock that it was late evening in her world at least. The admittedly beautiful setting calmed her, though, and she soon found herself relaxing.

Spotting a nearby bench situated underneath some shade, Chell flopped heavily down on to it, placing her Companion Cube in the spot beside her. Despite the almost overwhelming urge to drift off right then and there, the woman forced herself to lean forward, tiredly rubbing her temples. She needed to think.

Sometime later, Impa had found herself venturing into the park around her walk through the city. In part, she had set out to get some fresh air whilst Zelda and Link had gone off to explore the forest, but another one of the reasons she had decided to take a long stroll through the city was to survey its recovery since the events surrounding the reformat last month. She had not doubted Omega's power at all… whereas Alpha had striven to delete everything, his balanced counterpart had rebooted the entire system, leaving both the citizens and the world completely refreshed. The whole thing had been an incredibly trying experience, but in the end, the Sage of Shadow was just thankful that balance had been restored. More than that, everyone had come out of the time completely unscathed, and that was something that she was also eternally grateful for.

It had truly been a month of settling back into things despite the great restart, but even though the freshness of the air had returned along with the original status of the world, she definitely appreciated it just as much as ever. As Impa continued through the park enjoying the ever beautiful spring foliage and related sights of the season, she couldn't help but glance further down the sprawling patch of lawn ahead of her, soon spotting a seemingly distressed woman seated on one of the benches just off the main path. Whilst most citizens wandering the park or any other area of the city for that matter did not catch her attention, at least not past her highly tuned perception even in passing, for some reason, the woman before her did. It was strange, since she was obviously not from Hyrule, but upon closer inspection, the Sheikah soon determined that part of what had drawn her to notice the woman beyond her just sitting there was the almost palpable sense of tension from her.

Focusing her Eyes of Truth to get a better idea of what was at hand here, Impa soon discovered that the woman was very much new to the Breach. She had not even been here a few hours yet, so some of the stunned feeling steeped in her subconscious was very understandable. Given her tiredness, the arrival had taken its toll on her, but there seemed to be something else going on in her mind.

Even with as amiable as she was beneath her rough exterior, the Sheikah knew that she could not help every person she came across, although her desire to do so would have often made Link rather proud. However, she felt that this was one of those times where stepping in could be quite helpful. If nothing else, this woman was new to the Breach, and everyone needed someone to help welcome them to it and get them set to make their place in their new home. Today, it seemed that given timing and possibly even fate to an extent, Impa herself might be the person to help this woman get on her feet in the city.

Stepping silently towards her, Impa attempted to cast her shadow just right so that she would hopefully not startle the woman too much from her approach. Whilst she was very skilled in stealth, sometimes that talent could work against her when she unintentionally surprised people with her sudden appearance. A moment after she had stopped by the bench, the Sheikah asked, "Please forgive my intrusion, but are you all right there?"

The thinking, it appeared, would have to wait. Just barely opening her eyes, Chell managed to spot the shadow of a figure coming her way and immediately sat upright, fighting back a bit of surprise. Despite her stunned wonder at her new surroundings and - admittedly - tattered appearance, none of the residents of the city she'd passed on the street seemed to pay her any mind, almost like people showing up out of nowhere was nothing new to them. It had suited her just fine, considering she was still having a hard time getting her bearings straight, but even she couldn't deny that she would probably have to ask for help eventually. As luck would have had it, the stranger approaching her seemed to get the gist of her situation immediately, and calmly asked her if she was alright.

The former test subject blinked at the woman in front of her, momentairily thrown off by her appearance. At first glance, she seemed to be human, albeit a fairly tall one, and looked to be older than Chell by a few years. Upon further scrutinizing, though... no, she definitely wasn't fully human, not if the long, pointy ears and unusual garb had anything to say about it. Like many of the others she'd seen throughout the day, this woman appeared to be from a different world entirely, hell, maybe even a different timeline. Chell may have had no real memory of interacting with other people, but she knew one thing for sure - where she came from, they certainly didn't look like this.

Blinking again, she soon realized she that hadn't yet answered the stranger's question and had been looking bemusedly at her long enough to bring on an awkward enough pause. That's right... staring blankly at others wasn't quite going to cut it for interaction anymore, was it? Damn.

Chiding herself inwardly for her gawking, Chell nodded and stood up, thankful that the long fall boots kept her upright throughout her exhaustion. She was still pretty apprehensive, but the stranger seemed friendly enough so far, and she was more than confident that she could handle herself should anything foul arise. Besides, maybe this woman would know something about this world or why she was here. So, mentally preparing herself for her first almost-human interaction since who knows when, she opened her mouth...

...Aaaand nothing. Of course. Gulping, she brought a hand to her throat and shook her head, hoping the woman in front of her would get the message.

As if to confirm Impa's guess that she was new to the world, the woman seemed to have been caught off guard by her appearance. It was not surprising considering that the new woman was a human herself, and if her boots and grey cube were any indication, she was also one from a very technologically advanced world, likely one in the distant future. The Breach was indeed a mix of all sorts of peoples from just about any time and/or world imaginable, and the Sheikah knew all too well how astounding it could seem at first. After all, she had only been here for a little over a year now.

Had it already been that long? Even with Zelda's arrival, sometimes it still felt as though she had only arrived recently… No matter. Keeping her thoughts on the present, Impa smiled slightly at the woman's quick nodding, not failing to notice how her fatigue was currently being suppressed as best it could be. Impa tried to keep her posture as relaxed as possible so as to hopefully help ease some of the woman's subtle apprehension, but despite that trying to flare up on her, the Sheikah was just glad that she was effectively all right.

At the woman's gesture conveying her muteness, Impa simply smiled a touch more softly to her. "That's all right… I understand. You do not need to speak to communicate with me."

She wasn't about to bring it up just yet, but regardless of her keen perception helping her to better read nonverbal communication, the Sage of Shadow was actually quite experienced in communicating with mutes. The Link from her time wasn't one although he could be quiet and rely on actions more at times, but the Link from the future was effectively a true mute. Even without his digiglass or having another writing implement handy, Impa was quite good at understanding everything that the Hero of the Winds had to say. Granted, his three fairies often made it even easier since they bounced off of him quite well, but since she could communicate with the lad without any trouble, she felt that she could do the same with the woman before her.

After letting a slight pause pass, one that Impa hoped had helped ease her mind, she asked, "Are you new here?"

At hearing the woman didn't mind her disability, Chell allowed herself to breathe a sigh of relief. While a voice was something she had never needed down in Aperture - nor would she have been willing to speak to her captors even if she could - it presented quite the challenge to her in this new world. Meeting people would be a huge asset to her here, as much as she hated to admit it, and there was no way for her to properly communicate that didn't involve her flailing her arms around like she was a contestant in the world's most complicated game of charades. Jumping was probably out of the question, too. Still, the stranger seemed to have no trouble understanding her plight, and for that, she was very grateful.

Chell looked up when she heard the woman ask if she was new and nodded again, happy they were getting on this topic. The details on why she was here were still a complete mystery to her, and other than the city's name, she really knew nothing about this place despite all of the exploring she'd done. Pondering briefly on a gesture she could use to convey all of the questions on her mind, the former test subject settled for a long, sweeping gesture with both arms at her surroundings, before looking back at the woman again and shrugging. Just where was she, anyway?

Impa was glad that she had managed to ease the woman's mind a bit, both her relieved sigh and slightly more relaxed posture helping to show that. When the woman before her looked up again and nodded to confirm that she was in fact new here, Impa smiled slightly and returned the nod. She wasn't certain how long that the human had been here, but from both her apparent confusion as well as the feeling that the Sheikah was getting from here, it couldn't have been for very long at all. As if to add to that notion, the woman soon made a large sweeping gesture with both arms, motioning to their surroundings before glancing back to Impa and shrugging to her. Between her own perception and the woman's well-executed gesture, she figured that she was asking what this world was, and thus was set to answer her.

"This place? We're currently in Portal City, the capital of this world,"
stated the Sheikah. "As for what this world is… it is known as Portal Breach. It is a world of its own, existing in its own universe far from where any of us here might have come from. Just like yourself, I am not originally from here. I was instead pulled here by a mysterious force tied to this world."

Deciding that detailing how their original worlds were destroyed whenever anyone was brought here could wait for a later time, Impa paused for a few moments, hoping that that would help her explanation better settle in for the woman. Once she seemed to grasp this new development, she added, "I know it might seem to be very strange, but it is actually a rather nice world… just about anything you could want is here, be it anything in the city or even different kinds of land to explore. It can take a little while to get used to, but it does make for a nice home."

So she wasn't the only one yanked from another world to here? Chell's eyebrows shot up at that, her mouth forming a silent 'oh.' Well, that confirmed that this place was in fact real, at the very least, although the implications of the woman's comments mildly shocked her. Another universe... the former test subject couldn't say that this was the weirdest thing ever to have happened to her, but it was up there. Right next to working together with her former enemy as a potato, or suddenly finding herself on the moon.

At that thought, she suddenly felt another yet another wave of relief wash over her - if the stranger was telling the truth, and everything Chell had seen thus far indicated that she was, that meant a clean slate for her. No more Aperture, no more running, no more sleepless nights wondering if she'd ever be far enough away to feel safe - out here, there was nothing that could touch her. She'd made it. That thought alone was almost enough to draw a triumphant smile out of her.

    Almost.

Except... on to other problems, she mused as the woman continued to detail this new world. While it was a relief to hear that at least one other person liked it, and that there were places beyond the city she could visit (she'd have to see if there were any lakes or trails she could explore, she'd always wanted to...), there was still the matter of actually finding a place to stay, if only for a little while. Living outside was nothing new to her, but she couldn't say she felt comfortable with that here, and money was completely out of the question for now.

Biting her lip, Chell made a show of reaching into some imaginary pockets, shaking them out, and shrugging, hoping to convey that she didn't have a thing to even pay for a new home right now.

The woman's slightly stunned reaction to learning that she had in fact been whisked away to another world entirely understandable, but at least she seemed to be taking the confirmation of that fact pretty well. In some ways, she even seemed a little relieved… but that was soon taken over by her starting ponder something else, right before she pantomimed reaching into a pair of empty pockets and shrugged. Impa smiled softly at this, instantly realized that whilst she herself had arrived her with quite a few rupees that she had been able to turn into credits, the newly arrived woman did not have any currency whatsoever.

The Sheikah did not know that the woman was specifically thinking of money for a home, but she did know that bringing up the Stock Pot Inn would be one way to help assuage any of her possibly rising concerns. After all, it had spacious rooms with perfect accommodations, excellent food, and a central location, all of it free of charge to any of its residents. Impa, Zelda, and both of the Links (particularly the one from the future) had all made a fine home out of it, and they had striven to do so even more now that it had been fully repaired after its giant bell had been used in the fight against Alpha. The suggestion of the inn could cover two of the possible spending worries that the woman might have had, as for anything else though… now would be the perfect time for Impa to share some of the kindness she had been shown when she had first arrived on the Breach.

"Do not worry," stated Impa, shaking her head slightly. "You should be able to earn some money here before too long… I actually picked up some mercenary work myself to add to what I exchanged when I first arrived here. If you are wondering about lodging and food, then you are in luck. There is an inn here run by one of my closest friends, where he, my other two charges, and I all live. It is called the Stock Pot Inn, and not only does it have plenty of open rooms, by some incredible grace, room, board, and meals are all provided free of charge."

Still smiling slightly, the Sheikah paused so that the woman would not be too overwhelmed with that information. It was an amazing fact after all, one that had even taken Impa somewhat by surprise before she first visited the Link from her time there. After a couple of moments, her smile broadened a touch as she added, "I can show you the way to the inn, if you'd like. And if you happen to need anything on the way there, I can help you with that. It would be no trouble at all."

If all of the revelations the woman had dropped on her thus far had surprised Chell, then her detailing on the Stock Pot Inn nearly made her eyes pop. Free room and board. Food. The thought of it was enough to make the former test subject's stomach growl, and and her mouth water. It was yet another aspect of this world that seemed way too good to be true, and that was normally something that would have sent her sprinting in the other direction. She was absolutely positive that this wasn't another one of GLaDOS' tricks now though, it was far too elaborate for something the AI could conceivably pull off. And to top it all off, the stranger even offered to help her with anything she needed.

In the end, Chell knew what this really amounted to was a lot of good luck, and she'd be stupid not to take her up on the offer. At the same time, she was still feeling a little apprehensive - could she really trust her? The woman had been incredibly kind so far, and definitely had more knowledge than she did of the city, but the last time she had trusted someone to guide her... well, it hadn't ended well for either parties, to say the least. All the same, she found she kind of liked the lady so far, and after a brief inner battle, she decided it was worth a shot.

Besides, she desperately needed a bed.

Her mind made up, Chell turned and hoisted up her Companion Cube until it was resting against her hip. Once sure it was snug, she gave the woman a tiny smile and swung her free arm forward, signaling her to lead the way.

As the woman before her contemplated all of this new information, Impa could tell that she was a little hesitant to just up and trust her. She could understand that, despite not knowing anything about the woman's past experiences, so as she appeared to be inwardly mulling everything over, the Sheikah kept her gaze steady and her expression soft, hoping to convey a sense of trustworthiness to her. Impa knew that it truly was a lot to take in, which was why she had not gone into too much detail about this world just yet. However, as seemed to be something of a tradition of sorts on the Breach, one often got their best information from a chance encounter in the city… after all, it had been true for the Sage of Shadow herself as well Zelda and countless others here.

A few moments, later, the woman picked up the odd, grey cube that had been on the bench with her, right before smiling slightly and gesturing for her to lead the way towards the inn. Impa returned the smile with a slightly broader one of her own and nodded at her, soon motioning for the woman to follow her. As the two set out for the Stock Pot Inn, the Sheikah turned to her and said, "The inn is located in the Residential District, which is not too far from here. It is fairly simple to get to."

The two continued on at a comfortable pace for a couple of minutes before the Sage of Shadow glanced to the former test subject, stating, "By the way… since we have not got the chance to properly introduce ourselves, my name is Impa."

The woman she was now accompanying might have been mute, but Impa knew that it was still very handy for her to learn her name, as a sense of familiarity and added trust could certainly help one far beyond what simple words were capable of. She wasn't expecting the woman to share her own name with her just yet regardless as to whether she motioned it out on her cube or in the air or not, but she felt that she could at least share her own for now.

Chell kept a steady pace with the woman next to her as they walked, though she found herself almost physically tensing the closer they got to the entrance of the park. And back out into the city again... she knew she would have to get used to it all eventually, but the thought of leaving such a quiet little sanctuary and being swallowed up by technology and noise in it's place put what could only be described as a dull ache in her chest. It felt wrong somehow, instinctively, like she was going backwards. Still, it was either tough it out or live under a bench somewhere, and Chell wasn't sure that would be nearly enough living space for both her and the cube.

Thankfully, the woman spoke up as the pair left the park, stating that the inn wasn't too far of a walk, which calmed the former test subject's nerves a bit. At least whatever she'd have to endure, it wouldn't last long. Almost as if to take her mind off of the subject, the woman then introduced herself, breaking Chell out of her usually impassive gaze as she turned to look at her. Impa... it was an unusual name, to say the least, but it seemed to suit her well enough. She returned the friendly gesture with a steady nod of acknowledgement, hoping her new guide didn't expect her to return the favor. She had gotten along without a name before just fine in the past, and it wasn't exactly something she was willing to fling around. Not until she got a better feel for this place and the people who inhibited it, anyway.

Still... whether it was a distraction to keep her mind off of the city or an actual urge to be a bit more personable for once in her life, she found herself growing curious about Impa. Judging by her armor, it was obvious that she came from a place nowhere near as technologically advanced as Portal City, or Chell's own home world, for that matter, yet she seemed to have adjusted quite well to her surroundings. It was admirable, and it put her at ease, but it only left her wanting more information on who exactly her companion was. Pressing her eyebrows together in contemplation, she stole another glance at her. Well, it was worth a shot.

Tapping Impa on the shoulder, the former test subject waited until she had the woman's attention before gesturing towards her and swinging her arm backwards in an exaggerated motion, only to bring it back around and point at the woman again with a shrug of her shoulders. Hopefully she would take it as a question as to where she was from, and not a demand to get lost.

After the two had walked a little further into the city, Impa glanced over at the woman once she felt her tapping her shoulder. She then proceeded to pantomime something completely different, seeming to pertain to something about Impa herself and some place far away. This charade was a little trickier to read than her previous ones, but between the woman's focused shrug and the Sheikah's heightened perception, she was able to more or less make out that she was asking where she herself had come from.

"Where I'm from?" asked Impa, waiting for a confirmation from the woman before replying in earnest. "I come from a faraway place called Hyrule. It is a mythical kingdom, and much of it might seem a bit simple compared to this world. It's a very sizable land, all of it under the rule of the Royal Family of Hyrule."

As woman before her seemed eager to hear more, Impa smiled a bit in spite of herself and continued on, stating, "The biggest area is Hyrule Field, found roughly in the center of the main kingdom… the field consists of verdant plains and rolling hills, and given its central location, it is more or less a sprawling hub that links every other part of the world together. Each of those connected areas of Hyrule have very diverse geography, mostly given away by the names they bear. For those that don't, they do give away a hint as to who lives there."

It was admittedly nice to reminisce about her home world, as even though she now consider the Breach to be her home away from Hyrule, Impa did miss it. Still, as she had tried to instill in her charges, home was where the heart was, and even though she herself was born and raised in that mythical land, so long as those dearest to her were near, she could live just about anywhere. "In the broadest terms, those areas from the main field are Hyrule Castle Town, Death Mountain, Kakariko Village, Zora's River, Kokiri Forest, Lake Hylia, and Gerudo Valley. It is quite honestly impossible to depict Hyrule as just one general area, but without going into too much detail on each aspect of it, I hope that helps to give you an idea of where I come from."

Impa gave the woman a little bit of time to take all of that in, hoping that her general overview of the world she came from had been the answer that she was seeking. As they continued to walk, something about the woman seemed to give the signal that she was far more interested in learning about Hyrule and Portal Breach than in thinking about where she had come from. Whilst she did have a bit of curiosity about where her new companion had arrived from, Impa could gather enough information based on her attire and reactions to things to get a general idea of that slightly futuristic world. If nothing else, the Sheikah knew that the world someone came from might have helped build on who they were, but it was ultimately up to that person if the world itself defined them.

Chell dipped her chin in a single, quick nod to confirm Impa's first question, feeling strangely out of her element after having asked it. She had never bothered to really ask questions of the few sentient beings she had encountered during her time in the facility, much less get personable with them - she had been far too focused on the task at hand, and far too irritated 90% of the time to even think of it, getting to know anything down there, much less making friends. Friends she could trust further than she could kick them, anyway. The notion was, quite frankly, absurd, and that lingering feeling that she was doing something completely unnecessary by asking for this woman's story remained.

Thankfully for her, Impa's detailing of her home world proved to be pretty interesting, and she soon found herself looking back up at the woman with a curious tilt of her head. So she was from a kingdom, was she? That definitely explained the armor. At the back of her mind, Chell vaguely recalled hearing stories about that kind of thing, but as with most things seemingly ingrained in her psyche, she had no idea where the knowledge came from. Even so, her companion managed to describe the place well enough that Chell could easily picture it in her mind's eye. A place that big, completely devoid of technology... it all sounded pretty much perfect to her, and the former test subject found herself wondering how difficult it was to transition from a place like that to, well, Portal City. Judging by Impa's almost nostalgic tone, it was obvious she thought fondly of it, but hadn't she just said that she found the city to be a nice place to live? Chell nodded again as her guide finished up her story, although it was obvious she was lost in thought.

Maybe, despite their obvious differences as far as timelines go, she was lucky that she ran into Impa of all people. Maybe she could learn something from her - after all, if someone like her could adjust, then Chell had confidence she could too, with time. It was a reassuring thought, and one she figured she could hold on to in the weeks to come. Still, she couldn't help but wish she could at least visit a place like Hyrule, all valleys and hills and streams.

    ...Speaking of which...

The woman gulped slightly, running her tongue across her suddenly unbearably dry lips. She should have seen this coming - the most she'd had to drink that day was a swig of river water from the dented old plastic jug she always carried around in her bag. Fresh water had quickly become something more precious than gold to her since aquiring her freedom, and the fact that living in civilization meant she would no longer have to conserve it was yet another thing she'd have to get used to. Maybe Impa could help her find... a sink somewhere, or something. Doing her best to conceal her sheepishness, she tapped the woman's shoulder a second time and pointed to her own mouth, before tilting her head back in her best impersonation of a person drinking something out of a cup. This would never not feel ridiculous.

Impa was glad that her companion seemed to be rather interested in all she told her about Hyrule, and she couldn't help but get the feeling that the woman was starting to relax even further as they continued their walk. Perhaps having something to listen to was just as beneficial a distraction as it was useful information… at least with regards to building ones personal knowledge. Regardless, it always made the Sheikah a bit pleased to see when someone from another world, especially one that was rather technologically advanced, was interested in her home of Hyrule.

It was true that she did still think fondly of her home world even though she was very likely to never see it again, but she knew that it was safe across other points of time, and that was what mattered the most. As for her, she was here with not only her own wellbeing, but also Princess Zelda, Link, Link, Aicara, Zinnia, and a great quintet of fairies. It was admittedly very nice to have so much of Hyrule away from home, and of course to have been able to form bonds she wouldn't have found otherwise. Impa knew that home was where the heart was… and since her heart was with her loved ones, she didn't mind calling this world a home away from Hyrule.

The woman's curious glance was a good indication that she was intrigued by all of it, and hopefully she would continue to feel further at ease before too long.

The two continued to walk for a little while longer before Impa felt another tap on her shoulder, and as she turned, she caught a rather sheepish expression on the woman's face. Watching her actions carefully, the Sheikah smiled softly before nodding in understanding. "You're thirsty? I've got just the thing then, and it should do you even better than water."

At that, Impa reached behind her back and soon pulled out a glass bottle, corked and full of fresh milk. Since she and Link had acquired their Lon Lon cows the previous summer, both of them (as well as Zelda and the future Link) had had a never-ending supply of the magically refreshing Lon Lon milk. The milk truly had special properties, as not only could it quench any thirst, it could also help restore ones vitality and heal many injuries. The woman that was walking with her still seemed to be a bit worse for the wear, that effect likely stemming from the world she had arrived from as well as her getting used to the Breach, so hopefully the milk would prove very helpful for her.

"This is Lon Lon milk, a milk from special cows from my homeland. It should help with your thirst as well as give you quite the boost."
At that, Impa uncorked the bottle and took a small sip herself to show that the liquid was safe to ingest. After savoring the taste and showing that she herself was fine, she offered the opposite side of the bottle to the woman, hoping that the milk would indeed provide her with both the good taste as well as magical boost.

    Re: A Whole New Test

There was a stiff, awkward shift in Chell's posture when Impa asked about her thirst, and the disheveled woman looked away, extending her palm outwards facing down and shifting it from side to side in response. Even though there was no rush to get to the inn, she couldn't help but feel like she was wasting her companion's time by asking for breaks like this. Granted, seeing as how she appeared to be simply taking a leisurely stroll through the park when the two ran into each other, it was unlikely she had any emergencies to attend to, but she really didn't want the woman to feel pressured into spending the entire day tending to her. Even if she had been the most pleasurable company the former test subject had experienced in ages.

It seemed Impa had gone out prepared to avoid any pit stops, though, as she soon reached behind her back and pulled out - was that milk? Chell came to an immediate stop, eyes narrowing suspiciously despite herself. As parched as she was, instinct strongly advised against her taking any sort of food from strangers, no matter how generous they may have seemed. And this went double for milk that came from some ancient kingdom and "special cows." The woman next to her apparently expected this reaction though, as she then took a sip herself, almost as if to reassure her that it was safe. Chell cocked an eyebrow at this and took the bottle after a moment's hesitation, bringing her nose to the edge of it. Well, it didn't smell off...

In the end, her thirst and general weariness won out over any apprehension the woman may have had, and she decided to bite the bullet - or take a sip, more accurately. Eyes flying open, she jerked back almost instantly, staring in shock at the label on the bottle. It wasn't spoiled or poisoned, it was good - better than good, actually, it was possibly the best thing she'd ever tasted. And on top of the utterly indescribable taste, it was refreshing too, that one sip alone enough to make her feel better than she had in a very long time.

Moving again with an urgency that could only be described as desperation, the former test subject flung her head back and gulped down the contents of the bottle, the need for oxygen apparently forgotten. Oh god, after all this time she'd forgotten what real food could taste like, although this milk somehow seemed a bit more than that... with each gulp, she felt inexplicably energized and strengthened, previous exhaustion fading fast. Vaguely, she was aware of the liquid overflowing and running down her neck, soaking her shirt, but in that moment, she really couldn't have cared less.

Finally, after emptying the bottle of it's very last drop, Chell let out a content sigh and casually handed it back over to Impa, swiping an arm over her mouth. Glancing over at her companion, she nodded and gave her a small quirk of a smile, hoping she would grasp her appreciation.
