| What? What? What? The dragon blinked at Xiao’s rambling with squinted, doubtful eyes as though she had suddenly started to speak Chinese… wait. Strike that. Greek. But Xiao obviously didn’t know any Greek and… no, where was he again? Oh yes. “Whaaaaat?” he slurred again, as Xiao tried to stabilize him. What was she talking about? Wife? Children? Dear ANCESTORS. NO! Sammy did NOT EXIST! “Xiao, no, Xiao, wait,” he tried to intervene her… examination, but to no avail, someone was definitely worried here. And shouldn’t he know? | Quote: | | Wouldn't your wife murder me if I bring you back as a soul and a broken and hurt soul at that as well? |
What? Wife? What Wife? Sure, Tav might have killed her; but Tav was not around and Tav was not his wife and… Mushu had no wife! And what? Children? What??? XIAAOOOO!!!!
With a pure expression of shock glued on his face the dragon found himself poked in the rip and utterly speechless of what Xiao was laying out before him. Whaaaaat? Yeah, that’s how you kill off someone’s vocabulary – it’s that easy!
Oh, and what was that?! No more possessing? Did she try to order him around here? Hiiiim?! The almighty Mushu dragon of awesome that was hiiim? Well, okay he’d let that slide, after all it was her money and he WAS still feeling kind of woozy.
Maybe he was even dizzier than he had originally thought and had just misheard the squirrel! Yes, that must have been it. So, as Xiao gambled on (maybe he should keep an eye out on her…?) the dragon shook his head to clear his thoughts a bit and poked one of his ears with an irritated fashion. “I’m sorry,” he half-grumbled. Well, he definitely heard the new set of tokens rain down, so that was something, yes? “I thought I just heard you say ‘wife’.” Yeah. And Dragonsmee- Children!

| "Whaaaaat?" Xiao whined in answer. Whether she was repeating the only word the dragon seem to be able to pronounce at the moment to mock him or whether she was truly whining for an answer, one couldn't tell though jugding by her personality, it would very likely be the latter.
"Squeeee~" she squeaked, ruffling the dragon soul's ears as the plinking of tokens were heard. See, she wasn't that unlucky that she'll lose without his help. So Mushu doesn't need to go into the mean and horrible machine anymore. He wouldn't have to risk being spat out of it so rudely anymore.
The squirrel was giddily shovelling their winnings into the chip bag when Mushu posed his latest question. "You thought? No, no, Lord Mushu. It's not just your imagination. I did say wife. That's what you meant by family, didn't you? A lovely wife and cute adorable children, yes? At first I thought you look like a baby dragon and couldn't possibly have a family of your own yet but you're proving to be so much more wise and experienced than I thought so maybe you're not a baby dragon at all but a mighty, mighty one who humbles himself by taking on a more smaller form so as not to drive people to their knees in fear of your awesomeness."
At this her eyes focused back to the dragon and in a very serious asked, "Can I still meet your family then? I know I'm a lowly yaojing and very unworthy of meeting a dragon's family but I couldn't resist! Your children will be soooooo cuuuuuute~ I mean, you're this cute already so your children will be extremely so, yes?"
Oh dear, it seems like Xiao is determined to break Mushu's brain. |

| Whaaaaat?
Boy, that girl could talk. …Talk. Taaaaalk.
Wait, what? Babydragon?! Mushu defiantly crossed his arms and gave Xiao a look of disdain as she rambled on about… well that might have just saved you there, Missy! “Exactly.” To bring it to a point, “It’s called Travel-Size.” Oh really? Would this face lie? This faaaace? This face that belonged to the guy who decided to spent the one week he was given by dragging an innocent soul into a casino full of shady people? THIS FACE? Well, would it lie?
…Most definitely; but only if the lie was profitable to him – and Xiao expecting him to be the daddy of a horde of crackbabbies with a strange waifu of her imagination was certainly not what THIS FACE thought of the word ‘profitable’.
But aye, first things first. “I’m not cute!”
Take that! Now that that was out of the way the dragon nonchalantly brushed some nonexistent dirt of his nonexistent shoulders; old habits die hard, and eventually he looked at Xiao and simply shook his head. Shook his head, not that she wasn’t allowed to come, but, well… “My family is unique.” …It was the best way to describe it, really. Unique, and ever changing. And just because Mushu had no legit kids per-se it did not stop him from mothering and smothering people like little babies anyway. He was not good with children… and with adults you at least couldn’t make any mistakes anymore. They were apt to know better.
…Most of the time.

| Talk? Yes, yes, Xiao Xiao can talk. Xiao Xiao can talk plenty. It's pretty much a habit of hers to babble especially with the Palace of Wind's lack of talking partners. After all, Vaati and Garden could only take so much of her babbling before they decide to shut her up for good. So she could only talk to the other residents i.e. the eyebats and whatever monsters lurked the palace's hallways. Unfortunately, they're not very... responsive to her babblign either so she'd have to make do with talking enough to fill in their part of the conversation.
"Travel-size?" she piped up, taking note of his look of displeasure and rapidly backtracking through her words mentally to figure out what caused the knitting of arms and brows on the dragon. She picked the soul up and placed him onto the plush. Yes, travel size indeed. Small enough to sit on the one-foot-larger Mushu plush she made like it was a stallion. How odd it was. A dragon soul sitting on a larger plush form of himself which in turn was draped across a squirrel's shoulder.
"Nonsense, you are plenty cute enough," Xiao disagreed, giggling as she swung her coin bag in circles whilst she skipped back to the money changer lady. Sitting at a very comfortable 380 credit now, Xiao was more than happy to go and change her money back before sharing the winnings with her dragon friend. "You're so cute that I would happily cuddle you all day, Lord Mushu. But I don't think you'll like that very much which is why I don't actually go through with it. And if you're this cute already then your children must be super adorable! Tell me what they're like? Are they red like you? Awwww Mini-Lord Mushus~ Can I put bonnets on them? Can I make waistcoats for them? Or dresses if they're daughters and not sons? How many do you have? Oh a mini girl Mushu will be soooooo cuuuuute~ How about your wife? Should I make something for her too? OH! Shouldn't I buya basket of fruit then if we're visiting your family? It'll be rude of me to arrive on your doorstep empty-handed on New Year day!" |

| The dragon raised a critical eyebrow at the squirrel as she insisted on him… being cute. What about the word no, did she not understand? Did he always have to prove a point?! Even here? No… No, not today! The dragon silently shook his head as Xiao went on about the hugging, but came to a stop when she came to talk about his ’children’ again. Ah, yes; hadn’t quite resolved that yet, have we? With a mild huff, Mushu lowered himself upon the plush as if it were a full-body-sized pillow and listened to Xiao’s rambling as if she was telling him an interesting story. And once she stopped, the most he did was to shake his head, no.
“Zero,” Oh yes, let me spell it out for you: “There are no children.” And huzzah for that. HUZZAH MUCH! BLESS the Ancestors! Paaaarty ~ Aherm. Yeah. That.
Unless… you count the little green monster robot with his daddy issues. But Mushu considered them to have grown out of this mindset. XR wasn’t a charge for him to take care of; not a protégé who needed intensive babysitting. He was a friend. And he remembered how glad the robot had been when Mushu had finally acknowledged that. But… they had been involved with each other. XR had been his charge at SOME point! That meant Mushu was responsible for his soul, whether it was alive or dead, right? When a protégé left its guardian, that didn’t mean that their bond had never existed; right? I.e. when a child left its mom, that didn’t mean the kid had never been born. Family – right? (Ohoo, and don’t make him start about adoptions! …N- not as if he had ever thought about that!)
An unconventional way of thinking maybe, but hey… Mushu had always been rather special when it came to his job. He would always remember where he came from. Each and every family he served at. A fair share, let me tell you - especially since his arrival on the breach. Who needed… you know – a legit family there?!
“There is no wife either. I told you – my family is unique.” HE was unique. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Cut the fruits. We won’t be needing that.” Curious much, Xiao?

| Hey, she saw that head shake! And she didn't like it but she didn't pause in her rambling because if she did and demanded to know the reason for the head-shake, she knew she would forget what she was rambling about in the first place.
When she was finished and took in deep breaths from talking so much without pause, she was ready to launch into a whine to know what made him shake his head in the first place. Disappointment? It was disappointment, wasn't it? YES IT WAS, WASN'T IT?!
"Uwwwww," she whined softly, shoulders drooping and ears flattening. She didn't like disappointing people. Especially superior beings like Lord Mushu or Lord Pretty Hair. She was a lowly enough creature already and she acknowledges that probably a bit too much to be healthy. To know that this lowly creature was even more useless she viewed herself originally in that she was incapable of pleasing a superior creature in the simplest of things...
WAIT, WHAT?
"Zero?!" her frown transformed into a stunned, open mouthed gape. "You don't have children? But...B-But..."
The image of the cosy, adorable and happy dragon family shattered in her mind so magnificently that one would have been convinced they heard it break. Wait, no no, he haven't rejected the wife part y-NOOOOOOOOO, SPOKE TOO SOON!
Cue more imagination breaking and Xiao staring at Mushu wordlessly whilst the back of her mind registered no fruits and thus don't need to spend money - the penny-pincher!
"Whaaaa?" she managed to say at some point, obviously had decided to swap roles with the earlier Mushu and take on the monosyllabic answer approach. Actually, it might be worse than Mushu's because she didn't even manage to get the 't' onto the word 'what'. |

| That’s ri~ight. Zero children; zero, zerooo ~ Why aren’t you glad about that Xiao? Less children means less money to share!
The dragon couldn’t help but chuckle at the faces the squirrel made. Oh this was gold. Far better than the ‘living in a box’ though this time – it was the undeniable truth.
Repossessing the plush, Mushu eventually crawled on the other shoulder to make himself a bit more comfortable. “What about your family?” he questioned. He faintly remembered her talking about it when she first entered the armory, “How were they like?”
That question though, was a sleek distraction move of the dragon to regain Xiao’s attention. It wasn’t as if he actually cared to listen to the biography of every single one of her… how many siblings?
Bastard. |

| What about her family? Xiao's mouth flattened into a thin line. She would love to talk about her family any time of the day or year except today probably. Why? Because it reminded her all too much that they are not here with her. But perhaps she couldn't stay bottled up on the subject, can she? If she talked about them then she can wistfully relive the memories again and it'll be like breathing life to them again. They would be very, very, very, much alive and with her even if it was for the duration of her talk.
"Both my parents are squirrel yaojings - the Giant Chinese Flying squirrel ones. I never met my grandparents though but I've seen an uncle and an aunt once though they tend to stick to their forest - we're rather territorial creatures." Xiao paused, furrowing her brows as she tried to remember when she met those two relatives but try as she might, she couldn't put actual faces on their names. She remembered Auntie had a very revealling dress that her parents did not approve of and Uncle apparently turned utterly demonic later on in his life hence why she never saw him ever again after that one time.
"Mother and Father are very much in love, even after having thirty-five kids." Maybe that's why she always had that happy fairytale-like image of romance?
"I'm number twenty-seventh, by the way. All my siblings were named after numbers. So my eldest brother is called Yi, second oldest is Er, third is San and so on and so forth. Except me and my youngest sibling. I'm Xiao Xiao and he's Xiao Di (lit. Little Brother)." She reached a hand up and scratched on Mushu plush's head as she sighed. She was awfully jealous of her younger siblings when they came about and still had bouts of childish jealous tantrums even when she was older. But now? She would have gladly shared everything with them if they were with her.
"Why our names are different? Because I was the youngest when they named me and they though 'that's it! No more children!' so I was thus named Xiao Xiao (lit. Little Little or Littlest). But noooooo, mother and father had to get giggly and drunk off rice wine and have another litter of squirrels. And then another!" Xiao puffed her cheeks out huffily. Her parents made her name a lie! She will always be huffy about that. She was not the Littlest anymore! She was Sister Twenty Seven. |

| Mushu calmly nodded as Xiao told him about her family until a certain fact was giving and the dragon claws his plush fingers into the Yaojing’s shoulders, jolting up. “THIRTY FIVE?!” he repeated. Dang! He only slowly lowered himself again, that awkward tension not quite leaving. When Xiao told him that her older siblings were named… well numbered a look of disbelief washed over the dragon’s face. But then again – they were 35!!!
A hand came up to scratch Mushu’s head and the guardian calmed down a bit. … Hum... he supposed he could get used to that.
Little Brother, huh?
“Ya know… my second charge had a dog named Little Brother.” …see? Your parents weren’t the only people on crack!
But dear Ancestors, another littler because of rice-wine?! Huh, guess he had to cut down on that a bit. |

| "Yes, thirty-five," confirmed the squirrel as they finally made it to the coin exchange desk. She never did get why people sound so shocked upon hearing the number. Squirrels are rodents, they give birth to litters - that's 3-6 baby squirrels per birth and with the extended lifespan of yaojings it was entirely possible for them to have insane amount of babies. Her parents were both over 800 years old and having 35 children during those years seems like a rather small number if you're asking Xiao. It's like, what, only 5-7 litters?
She handed the lady behind the counter her chip bag then reached up and poked the dragon plush in its cushy belly. "I'm a squirrel. My parents are squirrels. We have litters. Thirty-five isn't a big number when you think of it that way. Do dragons not produce litters?"
Watching the lady changing the chips with idle curiosity rather than making sure she gave the correct amount, she cocked her head to one side without taking her eyes off the chips and money. "Your second charge? How many charges do you have, Lord Mushu?"
She wrinkled her nose at the dog bit though. Was he comparing her adorable little squirrely brother to a yucky dog? They smell and they chase squirrels at first sight! How rude, Lord Mushu. Or maybe it's not a comparison but something he felt like sharing? Oh tien ah, if she ever met her family again, she's going to make sure they change Xiao Di's name! |

| The dragon idly scratched his chin as Xiao continued her reasoning. Her ID proved that she was over 200 years old, that means 200 years of time to make 27 babbies prior to her. In that sense the Emperor could take lessons in abstinence from her parents. How old was that guy? How old where his daughters? Yeeeah, think about that. But hey, it WAS the emperor, what say did Mushu have in this? | Quote: | | Do dragons not produce litters? |
At this the plush’s ears perked in alarm and it tensed despite the scratching. How was HE supposed to know?! Zero children, don’t you remember? “Uh, well, pfrt…” the dragon sputtered for an answer, “Nooo?” he eventually guessed. Did he look like he was the part of the match that laid the eggs? Ancestors, he was a dragon, not a sea-horse. Siblings? No, if he had one, the dragon didn’t know about it. Young siblings maybe, who knew. As a matter of fact though, the dragon barely remembered his own parents… Figuring that there might as well be a reason to that, Mushu eventually preferred to take distraction in their new little fortune.
Yay Monies!
Bless the Ancestors that Xiao changed the topic. “Always one at a time,” the dragon explained, one plushy claw raised for great justice. Technically he had three at the moment; with Susan’s family, you know; but Mushu didn’t consider them official guardian business. In a way, he had switched occupations. Tav would… probably be proud. “Up to this point I’ve had 5 full-time charges and a few mini-jobs here and there,” the former guardian forced himself back to the topic and nudged Xiao’s cheek. “They’re my family.” And what a lovely family that was. Two: dead by world-destroyal Two: abandoned him just like that And one… one was just two houses away.
Though, technically… Since XR had died on Mushu while he was in the *cough* asylum *cough* they were officially split apart; but who cared for the official stuff if there were no ancestors to boss him around or to witness the whole thing? Mushu was fine with pretending; he hadn’t done anything else with Mulan either. That was the catch though; If their bonding would have still remained, then the dragon might have very well had a chance of getting out of his brawl with Nos-4-A2 alive. …Or would he? There was still the whole acid and reformation business that the vampire had rambled about… Not to mention that his current situation was entirely his fault in first place.
At that thought the dragon scrunched up his nose and shook the thought out of his head. Come on, Mushu! This is not the time to think about that. You are on vacation!
The dragon’s tail uncurled from his slim body (whenever had it wrapped around himself like that?) and clung to one of Xiao’s arms again for the proper hold.
Mooonies ~ “Now, Xiao,” huuum, the dragon wondered what made her look so displeased there, “I promise I won’t ask of much from you. You can still keep most of the winnings,” he promised driving the topic back to one of the main issues. HIS LACK OF PREZZIES! “I need money for four parcels. Two big ones, and two small ones.” Yeah, small amounts should really be big enough. The people ought to be thankful that they were getting anything at ALL! Greedy dragon… “…and four pockets to begin with.” the dragon eventually trailed off half mumbling, “Any idea where we could get some?” |

| Awwww, no litters of widdle cutesy wutesy Mushus? How many times must you stomp and crush Xiao's imaginative cosy family scenes until you're satisfied? Granted even Xiao thought her imagination gets overboard too and most likely warrant the stomping and crushing.
"Five full-time charges. So who is your current charge? I presume that the current charge is the one we're going to visit today when you said family?" she asked, accepting the credits from the lady behind the counter and carefully counted it. Yes, that's the right amount. Aaaaa, so much money! Xiao never held so much money in her hands before! It made her want to prance around giddily followed by strutting her way out of this establishment with her nose in the air and a swagger in the swing of her arms.
"I'm more than happy to give you half the winnings," offered Xiao. Yes, winnings - keyword. That meant the original investment wasn't included. So they have a nice round sum of 400 right now. Minus her the original amount she started with (88) and that would make 312 for winnings. Half that is....er.....Xiao mouthed the numbers as she calculated silently. 106 credits each?
"Pockets? I have red pockets! Here!" she poofed a packet of flowery red envelopes into her hands, still wrapped in its cellophane packaging. "Aren't they pretty? I actually swiped them from a shop because they're pretty and it's New Year. Though obviously I'm not going to be handing them out but still, it's nice to have them around and pretend somebody gave them to me if nobody actually does."
She unwrapped the packaging and pulled out four red pockets as Mushu requested. "Here~" |

| “Close!” Mushu answered, indicating the level of ‘almost right’ with his claws, “He is my third charge. The first since the Breach.” And the first charge ought to be someone special, right? At least that was a more competent sounding reason than ‘all the others have abandoned meeee’. Aweeee.
He didn’t bother to explain that if he had a current charge, he would hardly… look like this. Once a guardian was on the job, they’d found themselves INDESTRUCTIBLE! Ha! Really, try it. Blow him off with a rocket for Jade Emperor’s sake. Not – a – scratch! Mulan had apparently had a lot of fun with that in her days! But sadly, Mushu hadn’t had a charge for a while since the Mr. Dark incident and hence… hadn’t been INDESTRUCTIBLE, leading to his current… situation. Oh well ~ All that mattered was that XR was still there, albeit not work-related and...
Oh yes, the pockets! Ha! With a swift motion Mushu snatched the envelopes from her hand. Perfect! Oh look at that little thief here; one could have believed he had been teaching her himself. Without much hesitation the plush crawled over her body towards the money back, carefully picking out his interest. 8 credits each for the smaller packets; and two to be filled with 40s. Xiao could keep the rest if she wanted too; it would probably only get used up in the making of Nevermore’s present anyway.
“Why pretend?!” the dragon questioned her ramblings with a raised claw and a smug smile on his face as he closed the last of the packets and promptly handed it over to the squirrel, with an indicating tilt of the head. And wouldn’t you know? It was a big one.
Talk about getting the job done soon, but technically speaking Mushu had even been behind schedule, so the dragon hoped she’d still accept the envelope – that was technically her own, as much the money in it was. My, Mushu was a sleek one ~ One way to make a present without spending a dime on it. |

"Huh?" she managed to squeak out before blinking stupidly at the envelope presented to her. Then her eyes widened. It was her own money and her own red pockets but she didn't care. Because all she wanted was somebody who knew the tradition and give her one. "FOR ME?!" she squawked before taking hold of the red pocket with both hands.
"Thank you, Lord Mushu! Happy Chinese New Year! May all your wishes come true and your good luck last for all of eternity," she rhymed off, accepting the pocket with clasped hands. She got a red pocket! She got a red pocket on New Year Day! She had somebody who knows Chinese New Year to celebrate it with. She got a dragon to celebrate new year with her on the year of the dragon! She's not alone here! She got a red pocket! A red pocket!
She squeed and swept Mushu up into a spinning hug. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Lord Mushu."
Her siblings will be so jealous! They don't have a dragon to celebrate with! Ha! Though in turn, she didn't have her family with her to celebrate with. A dragon in exchange for a family, eh? She stopped her swinging, teeth chewing on her lower lip viciously. What was her family doing right now? Would Brother Ten be tying a line of firecrackers on a tree? Would Mother be cooking fish for dinner? Would they sit around the table and eat and laugh and giggle and...
Xiao sniffled a little, squeezed Mushu extra tight in her arms as she suddenly got onto her knees in the middle of the casino's carpet floor. "I'm sorry, lord Mushu. Please let me hold on a little longer."
"Mother, father, brothers and sisters. Happy New Year." She bowed low, letting her forehead rest against the carpet and her hands held onto the dragon plush desperately as she tried not to shake. "May your wishes come true. May fortune and wealth be within arm's reach for all of you. May your bodies be strong and fit. May you always be healthy and lively like dragons and horses. Ma--"
She hiccuped and allowed Mushu free from her hands in favour of wrapping her arms around her bowed head on the floor. "This is terrible, isn't it, Lord Mushu? I already cried earlier today and now I'm crying again. How terrible - to cry on such a happy day. I'm sorry. Just give me a second and I'll compose myself." |
