It seemed the barrage of attacks had flipped the hungry blue aliens over and hit their weak points for massive damage... never mind their lack of resemblance to crustaceans. Bad references were bad references, damn it! As the soundly beaten creatures slunk off into the bushes to lick their wounds - that is, if they were the sort to do so at all - Taika began to regret not trying to capture one with her special staff. While they were somewhat distasteful and might not be particularly powerful compared to other beasts that could exist on the planet, having a live specimen could be useful for analysis back at the ship, or at least as cannon fodder when larger enemies did appear. Well, she would have to settle for a genetic sample to pass on to X'ng, it seemed.

Taking what she could by swabbing a part of her suit that had been scratched, she moved on to collecting a sample from Zim's wounds - no doubt he would be complaining loudly when his RPer read this, but he was going to be loud about something anyway. After sealing the samples in small vials and storing them on her suit, she turned to survey the area for a moment.

"We should move on now. This planet has more for us to discover..." she commented to the rest of the party. The forest seemed to be receding in a certain direction - that seemed like their best bet.

    >Move on

The creatures growled and snapped, spittle dripping down their maws, but finally retreated. Shayera straightened and slapped her mace into her palm, watching them run away. That's right, run away, she thought smugly. Any longer and you'd have gotten more than cuts and bruises...

But Taika going over to see to Zim's wound reminded Shayera of her own wounds. What wounds? She had barely gotten a scratch on her. She flexed her wings, testing the muscles. Everything seemed to be in working over. She glanced at Taika again, who was putting bottles away and harrumphed, stowing her mace away back upon the belt at her side.

"Damn right we should move on. Staying in this place isn't wise. We risk getting attacked again." Glancing over Zim to see whether his wounds would impede him and finding that they wouldn't, she started off again and headed towards the light ahead, not bothering to look whether they were following her or not. Taika probably was, but knowing Zim he wwould be complaining, so Shayera cut him off with a curt, "We're not going after them; that's stupid," before he could even start.

Zim grinned smugly as they ran away, beaten up by mostly him, and the other two. Grinned smugly, of course, before remembering that those things had injured him and he had made a vow to collect one's pelt...ish...shell...thing.

Zim gave the weird purple thing a glare as it swabbed at one of his wounds. He hissed at the contact, before pulling his arm back, away from the weird thing. What did it think it was DOING?! Poking at his arm! He gave a dismissive snort and was just about to start marching towards the bushes the aliens retreated into when the bird-woman cut him off with a response that meant 'We're going forward stupid.' Zim squinted at the woman a bit. Since when did she get to be psychic, that was just WEIRD.

"But...BUT THEY BIT ME! They spilled blood! Its only fair that I do the same! AND BESIDES. One of those shells would look GREAT in the barber shop!" Zim cackled, although this cackle was a more low-key one than his other ones. Oh, he really DID want a trophy of one of those stupid turtley-aliens....but perhaps they'd find a better alien along the way. Sucking it up, Zim gave the two a nod of 'Alright, lets go your way' and continued on.

And thus, the group pressed onwards. Diligent and determined to finish their little adventure. Together they had bested a trio of ravenous beasts, but what else lurked beyond? Those were just babes compared to the big game, and they were pressing deeper into uncharted territory. What would they find? What would they see? It would all come down to a final confrontation, destined by fate, and (of course) the smelly, old boot Zim had found. It was always Zim.

After a good half hour walk, listening to the jungle teem with life and witnessing the forest alive with colourful flora and fauna, the team would come across a gentle and serene clearing; the edge of the forest at last. The pod was exactly 2.2 miles behind and they were officially on their own from here on out.

In this clearing was a river that rend the landscape in two, and there were small, stout shrubs doting the area. The plain itself spanned a good long while, past the horizon, and the sun bore upon their backs mercilessly. Overhead giant pterodactyl-like creatures glided lazily about thermal streams and it didn't seem that anything was dangerous. Of course, you know what they say about assuming...

To the north were towering mountains, covered in a similar jungle they had just escaped. To the west was more stretch of land, vast and flat. To the east it dropped off into a gorge, where the river became a waterfall. To the south was the forest, whence they had just come from.

Where shall they go? The day was rapidly wasting.

    --------

    --Go North? To the mountains?
    --Go West? To the plains?
    --Go East? To the gorge?
--Go South? To the jungle? (Why would you do that...)

Zim's eyes narrowed a bit as he inspected the clearing they had come across. In front of them was a large river, mountains covered in forests, a plain, another area of vast land area to the opposite of the plain, which dropped down into a waterfall. The sun was beating at them, making Zim rather hot, and above them, odd, leathery looking birds flew around. Zim gave those things a scrutinizing squint, in case one should suddenly dive down at them, but no such thing happened. They might not have been hungry.

After a bit of pondering, Zim faced the North, where the mountains were. They seemed like the best idea, since the forests would help give them camouflage should the birds decide to get hungry. The plain and the gorge would obviously reveal their location in no time.

"I say we go NORTH, to those MOUNTAINS!" Zim declared with a point, glancing back to hear what the others in his party had to say. Hopefully they agreed, the large birds actually seemed pretty intimidating.

Zim, of all people, actually had a sense of self-preservation that extended past carrying as many weapons as possible? Who knew? Well, that knowledge was certainly new to Taika. She had half expected him to suggest one of the more open areas just so he could kill one of those strange flying creatures - and probably wear it as a trophy or something of the sort. Speaking of which, they reminded her somewhat of Aerodactyl. If it came to that, maybe she could try to capture one. They looked large enough to carry at least one person, and Pokeball mechanisms had always been good at calming down anything they captured.

"For once, I agree. We should head north," she said in response to the bug's exclamation. This time, there was no denying that it was a good move - the mountains seemed to be the team's most viable option.

Terrific. An open area where they could become breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Shayera snorted and rolled her shoulder sockets, wings expanding as she stretched them out. "That's the smartest thing you've said all day, Zim. I'm proud." A little sarcastic but she meant it. The mountains would be the best bet. Wastelands didn't cut it with the flying creatures overhead, and waterfall? What point would there be in going there? There water rations were still pretty high. The forest was a definite no. To the mountains it was.

"We go north, to the mountains." And being the most bold and brazen of the group Shayera walked off, not waiting any longer. "The sooner we get there before nightfall the better our chances of survival. Let's move."

And maybe she can finally let her wings out and fly a little.

    (Heading north.)

And to the mountains it was. The trio trekked across, or floated in the case of Taika, the flat landscape unfettered. It was boring, it was long, and most of all... it was hot. Hot, hot, hot, with a side of hot. Nothing could have prepared them for this but at least the suits could provide somewhat protection from the sweltering heat. Fortunately for Zim the flying beasts overhead had not yet taken an interest to his buggy hide and the sun was starting to go down, dipping behind the horizon. The entire trip took a total of two hours to complete and those with feet and muscles would no doubt be feeling a slight sense of fatigue. Or maybe those were the blisters forming at their soles.

By the time they reached the mountain ridge it was now dusk, and the world had suddenly been cast into what seemed like an alternate world. Animals no longer whooped or cried about; instead insects chirped and the nocturnal avians hooted and crooned. The mountains were now harder to define and the forest dangers teeming over them were now thrice as treacherous. Here at the foot of the mountain, they had yet another choice.

    What should they do?

Die rolled: 1! (a safe journey)

    ------

--Continue into the mountains despite it being dark?
--Set up camp and wait for the dawn?
--Or throw a huge frat party and hope the owner of Zim's boot comes out to play?

The other two agreed with his decision. As they should. Zim was a GENIUS! He gave the hawkwoman a small glare but said nothing for once in response to her snarky comment. So snarky! Perhaps she was jealous of him and his Zim-ness.

The trio made their way through the mountains. And besides the incredible hot weather baring down on their backs, nothing happened. usually, he might want to hunt the bird-like creatures down, but he knew he was at a disadvantage with such creatures. He was small, though he would never say that or admit it ever, and easy to lift off the ground.

Finally, the darkness came, and Zim stumbled over to rock to sit and rest for a second. IRK, who knew walking around mountains was exhausting. But what to do next? Continue on? Camp for now?

"I, ZIM, think we should CAMP for a while." Zim proposed. Was he loving being the temporary leader of their trio? You better believe your bruuka.

"Finally, a bright idea," Shayera said, slumping at the base of a tree. Her feet ached, not from blisters or anything since she was used to trekking on a whole, but from travelling for so long and over such a large expanse. It had been a while since she'd done a cross country trek. "Camping here for the night's the smart thing to do."

Although she wasn't sure what they could do, food-wise. After being out here all day, she had worked up quite the appetite. She rummaged through their provisions pack. "All right, who's hungry?" She drew out a few canisters of water and several containers containing cubes, powdered meals and basic ration packs. "Whatever you're getting, we're splitting everything up evenly to last us. We don't know how long we'll be out here."

Shayera considered something. "Think we should contact the ship team?"

There were definite advantages to being able to float - foot aches were nonexistent, for one. Still, the long trip had left Taika feeling slightly drained overall, and a good rest would go a long way toward maintaining her strength for the rest of the expedition. In the dim twilight that marked the end of the team's first day spent planetside, stopping to camp would also serve to keep the explorers from being eaten by any unseen threats - this thread was already similar enough to old adventure games as is; undoubtedly, no one would really want to add grues to the mix.

"I agree... traveling in this darkness can't bring anything good," she responded in assent. As the moons rose to take the place of Gamma-X's receding sun, plunging the forest's edge into shadow, she remembered that even Ghost Pokemon had to eat. Luckily, Shayera chose that time to take some of the group's provisions out of their pack. "I wouldn'd mind some food, thank you," she answered the winged woman, having no objection to evenly dividing the rations.

"Think we should contact the ship team?"

Taika thought this was a good idea - the people left on the ship might want to receive an update on their progress; X'ng would likely be interested in hearing about the data they had gathered so far. "Yes, we should open communications with the ship and tell them what we've found so far."

    >Ask Shayera for food
    >Call ship
