A New Sword for a Young Hero, Take 2!

Post by Jo Pistonne on Thu Jan 20, 2011 3:45 am

It had been a little over a week, and Jo had a lot of commissions and projects to go through, but she'd found time to complete Link's sword. She never forgot her clients!

She hadn't used teryllium in its forging (it would end up being too expensive for poor Link to pay off) but she'd gone for classic steel instead. The sword was also longer like he'd said he'd wanted it. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was trustworthy and durable, and though making swords wasn't Jo's specialty, she'd researched a lot to be able to make it as true to its origins as possible. But she'd let Link be the judge of that. He was an actual sword-user, so if something wasn't to his liking, Jo could scrap it and start over again.

She laid it underneath her counter and went off to concentrate on some other task until the young hero came back.

Link had received a note from the front desk about a call from Jo, and he'd excitedly read it, hoping for news on his new sword. And it had indeed been news, new that the blade was finished! Link had been working all week to make money, shoveling driveways and walkways and even getting people's groceries. He hadn't made nearly enough to pay for the sword yet, but he'd made enough for a 20 dollar payment and close to enough for a 50 dollar one.

With the strange currency of portal Breach safely tucked away, Link rode Epona down the sidewalks (getting a lot of odd reactions from pedestrians) to where Jo's shop was, hopping off the horse even before she'd fully stopped out front. "Slow down!" Tatl grumbled, flying behind him through the doors of Jo's shop.

Link walked up to the counter, unable to keep the excitement off his face.

Jo was sitting on the counter in the main room, adjusting the controls on a new gizmo or other. It was just a little something she'd cobbled up on the spot out of boredom due to the lack of customers, but when she heard the shop#s bell ring as the door opened she immediately hopped off the counter to greet the customer.

She was pleased to see that it was none other than Link and his trusty sidekick Tatl. "Hey!" Jo greeted with a big smile and a wave. "How've you been? Good? I got your sword ready!"

Link beamed. "I've been good! And I have money for the first payment." Hopefully that would help make Jo feel confident that she could trust him to pay it off. He couldn't wait to see the new sword, he was like a kid on Christmas morning. Well, he was a kid, and he was getting a new item, even if he did have to pay, it was worth it!

(sorry this post is so short D:)

"Perfect!" Jo turned back to the counter, digging around for the sword. "Aha! Found it!"

She got up and placed the package on the counter, opening it and revealing the sword contained inside. It even had its own sheath to accompany it.

"Try it out a bit and tell me how it fits." She laid her elbows on the counter, supporting her chin in his hands, and waited.

Link's eyes widened at the shiny, new sword. It was definitely longer than his Kokiri sword, which would give him better reach in battle. It looked sturdy, but sleek. He picked it up and grasped it's hilt in his hand. He liked the weight of it.

Take a few steps back he swung it around a little, then smiled. "It's perfect!" He walked back to the counter and replaced the sheath. "Thank you! How much do you want for the first payment? I have 35 dollars right now." He said, placing the sword on the table and taking the money our of his pocket.

Jo nodded in approval. It looked like the sword had come out more than just nicely. It fit him like a glove! "20 dollars will do for the first payment. If you can manage to pay 20 every week or every month that would work out just fine."

She pulled out a sheet of paper she'd printed out earlier. "Now, just sign your name here. I'll give you a copy, keep the original, then you can pass by whenever you can for the next payment. How does that sound?"

Link nodded and counted out 20 of the PB dollars, setting then on counter in front of Jo. He then took the pen and signed his name. His signature, of course, was in Hylian--he didn't even think about it being odd, that was just how he signed.

He picked up the sword again, grinning at it. "I'll be back with the next payment soon!" He promised. He'd probably bring it in as soon as he had enough for it, not wait the entire month. He didn't need money for anything else, luckily.

Jo glanced down at the paper, then did a double-take. She didn't recognize the writing. But that was alright. It was his signature, no matter the script style or.... whatever. Jo nodded, slapped the paper on a photocopier, churned out a copy, then handed it over to Link.

"Take your time, Link! And use that sword well! I'd like to hear how good it is~" And with that, the mechanic sent the young man on his way before returning to work.

She liked making new things for people that they'd appreciate!
