    Certainly not in Kryptonistan anymore

Post by Kev on Tue Apr 06, 2010 4:53 am

It was dark and the beach was calm, as the waves rolled over the shores in their rhythmic cycle. The calm was disturbed by the appearance of a black portal. The portal hovered over the shore, and Kev was unceremoniously dropped onto the sandy shore. Kev stayed on the ground, trying to work out exactly what just happened. He had tricked another Kryptonistanian, and a portal had appeared and sucked him in, before dropping him here. He looked up hesitantly, to see what exactly 'here' was. His eyes widened as he looked around. The area where he was at had tons of sand everywhere, and a large pool of water. He watched it's waves, hypnotized. His planet had small pools of water, very small, and spread out in different spaces, but he had never seen such a large pool of water in one place.

Kev finally stopped watching the waves as he pulled himself to his feet. Looking around he could see a large group of trees in the distance. These trees were different from his planet's though. From what he could see, most of the trees here were dark brown, with green tops. Kev shivered. He was on an Alien planet.....Memories of the stories his Planet's elders had told him when he was young flooded to his mind. Stories of Aliens murdering other species for fun, of forced mind-links, many disturbing things. Kev shivered again. The lesson to be learned from these stories was that Aliens were not to be trusted, and here he was, on a strange planet, sure to have many kinds of Aliens. Kev wrung his hands nervously, looking around in fear. Maybe if he was lucky all the Aliens on this planet were already dead.

It was finally dark out, and Arius decided to take a nice stroll out by the scenic serene ocean. The sand was cool and the air had a slight breeze. The sea's lullaby was a comfort in the silent night, like the voice of the planet whispering to those who listened. Arius missed the days that he could come out to the beach in the day in his red striped bathing suit and flat-top straw hat and repose out in the warm sunlight. He missed the mere sunburn, now replaced by an unholy burning. If he could watch a sunset one more time, and not have to wait until it was fully set to come out in the open air.

Arius wandered the shore, wearing khaki pants, a button down shirt, and a sandals. He was pondering his past life, and what life would entail in this strange, new world. He heard something sifting in the sand further down the beach. Keeping alert, he continued walking in the direction of where the sound came from.

Kev took a few hesitant steps forward, looking around nervously. 'So far, so good. no aliens yet.' He wrung his hands quickly and nervously. He looked up, taking in the sights of the night sky on this new planet. His eyes widened. The sky was very clear and dark, little stars glistening. He squinted at the sky a bit. There were a few other orbiting objects, one that caught his eye was a large...purple planet? He raised an eye bridge. If there weren't aliens on here, they would probably be on there at least. Kev fumbled with his hands a bit before deciding to sit back down on the sandy shore. As strange and new as this planet was, it was actually kind of boring. He resigned himself to trailing his gloved hand through the sand, making insignificant scribbles.

It could be some sort of animal, maybe a turtle crawling onto the shore. Or it could be a couple doing certain acts. If anything, it would be nice if it was a lone person that Arius could tap into. Arius was curious as to what it was, and got close enough to be able to see a figure.

Well, it was some sort of hominid creature. But he couldn't determine anything specific from this distance. But before he got any closer, Arius decided to get a look into what it felt. If it was hostile, he would not bother disturbing it; Arius was not in the mood for a rumble.

Opening his eyes to the secrets of the physical world with auspex, Arius perceived the auras of sentient things around him. Yes, there was a crab over there, a fish not too far off from the shore. But the aura of the figure had something wrong about it; it did not look like any aura he had ever seen.

As he looked at the aura, he could sense that there was something emanating off of its body, but he could not determine what it was. It was as if the color was in a different language, emotions that were not understandable to his mind.

This was very odd; Arius had never encountered anything like this. This made him slightly frightened, as he could not tell what it felt. He was being denied auspex, which was like another sense of his. He felt mind-blinded, and this raised Arius's apprehension to this being.

Arius continued to get closer, but kept his distance.

Kev continued making scribbles in the sand when something caught his attention. He tensed up immediately. There was a presence, a mental presence. But this presence was not Kryptonistanian. This presence was unlike anything he had ever sensed before. He jumped up off the ground immediately, trying to locate the creator of this presence. He squinted, but his eyes were not very good in the dark. He began to mentally prod back, to locate this thing. It came from some distance away. Kev backed up a few feet. He shivered. 'Great, I get stuck on a planet with telepathic aliens. Wonderful!' Kev thought to himself angrily. He mentally contemplated if he should try to do more than prod this strange thing, see if he could read its thoughts. He doubted it, and besides, it was taboo to pry into someone's mind without permission.

He decided to try anyway though, just in case. Besides, the creature had tried to read his mind first. He leaned forward slightly, aiming for the Alien's general direction, before finding it. Kev clutched his head slightly with a mental groan. Not only was this Alien's thoughts weird and confusing, but there was a weird ringing noise in his head. He quickly stopped, that was obviously a bad idea. He kept backing away from its position though, his whole body tensed, ready to either fight back or flee if this Alien was in any way hostile.

Arius suddenly froze when he felt his mind being crept upon. Was it a powerful elder vampire? Could it be an Antendiluvian with some sort of power that prevented him from reading his emotions? Or was it some sort of other telepathic organism? And how did it detect his mental presence?

All sorts of questions swarmed Arius's mind in regards to whatever was down the beach. Arius felt in the dark and was frustrated at his confusion.

Well if it is going to mind read, I might as well too

Arius's perception crossed the barrier into the other mind, and tried to read its thoughts, but to no avail. Even for the language of the mind, these thoughts were completely incomprehensible.

What the heck is this thing?

However, the one thing he could understand was his thoughts that were being read by the creature on the other side. Arius could read his own thoughts being read in the mind of the other thing. He wondered if this was the same way for the other being.

    Wow, that is confusing.

Kev clutched his head again, as he felt the creature reading his mind. He read it's mind back, stance slightly hunched in annoyance. The ringing was back again, but now there was also dull throbbing. He couldn't understand it's thoughts, and the 'feedback' was grating. This 'mind reader reading a mind reader's mind while it is reading the first mind reader's mind' situation was not only extremely confusing, and aching him mentally, it was going nowhere.

Kev pulled back mentally, keeping out of its mind and hoping it would get the message and stay out of his. There was obviously a language barrier, so communication was gonna be useless. His shoulders sagged. He was gonna have to use body language. He faced the Alien, although still staying far away. He waved his arms to get its attention eagerly. He pointed at his head, then pointed at the vague location of the Alien's head, and shook his head. The message he was hoping to convey was that the mind reading should stop. He made his hand into a fist and put the fist on his chest, a motion made to hope for good luck or achievement.

Why couldn't he understand the creature's thoughts? All minds had the common language of the mind that rang true with all beings he had encountered.

That is unless this thing is not an Earth thing. Maybe its brain and mind worked differently, and his mind was not used to sensing thoughts in that manner.

Suddenly, the Alien ceased the telepathic probing, and began waving at him and making gestures. Arius deciphered the being’s meaning, and pulled out of its mind. It then pounded its heart, which could mean several things; Lamont was unsure if it meant hostility, brotherhood, honor, or triumph. Not to mention, it could have another meaning in an alien culture.

Arius pointed to himself, and stated very clearly, “Arius Lamont.” He then drew out his name on the sand, pointing from the symbols to himself.

Kev's shoulders relaxed, relieved as the Alien withdrew itself from his mind. The message had been achieved. Kev tilted his head as the Alien pointed to itself, and said something in its native tongue. It then started scribbling in the sand like he had done earlier. While it scribbled, Kev stepped forward and inspected this new Alien species. Its only had fur on the top of its head, along with a small set of eyes. The skin texture was very different looking indeed. The Thermians were Insectoid, while the dreaded Quasarians had long fur all over their bodies. And he himself had smooth scales.

The Alien had finished its drawings, and then pointed to it, and then itself. Kev blinked. The foriegn writing was the weirdest thing he had ever seen. He blinked again, remembering that the Alien had said something and pointed to itself. Was it trying to identify itself to him? Kev tried to mentally sound out the weird Alien phrase before sending it back over to the Alien mentally.

"Aaaaary Lamm?" Kev 'said' to the Alien mentally, pointing at it as he 'said' it before gesturing to himself with both hands. "Kev-Mak-Tarr."

Arius grinned as the Alien pronounced his name in his head. While he was not a ‘hairy lamb’, this meant that the being could communicate with language. Although their minds were too foreign to comprehend each other, perhaps with time they would be able to create a mental bridge that would allow them to understand each other mentally, even if they spoke different languages.

Kev-Mak-Tarr definitely had a unique name, but his own name was probably weird for the Alien itself.

“Kev-Mak-Tarr.” Lamont stated while pointing to him, then pronouncing it mentally to the Alien, still maintaining his gesture at him.

The being’s lack of a mouth was quite surprising. Maybe that is why it could communicate telepathically.

Kev nodded happily as 'Ary Lam' identified him. This was so intriguing! Despite the obvious language barrier, they were communicating extremely well with just body language. He had some questions about this new place, and perhaps this Alien could answer them. First things first, he had to figure out what this new place was called.

Kev thought for a moment, wondering how he was gonna ask the name of this place by pointing. He pointed to the ground, and shrugged.

As Kev-Mak-Tarr gestured towards the ground, and made a movement signifying confusion, Arius was left with his own confusion.

Was the Alien asking about the sand? Or the beach? Perhaps this being had never seen a beach from wherever it came from.

Arius picked up a handful of sand and showed it to him, letting some slip through his fingers.

"Sand." He stated, using the other hand to point at the sand in his palm.

He then pointed to one side of the horizon where the beach could still be seen, and dragged his finger along the visual landscape over to the other side.

"Beach." He stated, using both hands to gesture towards the beach as a whole.

Kev blinked as he watched Ary pick up the sand and gesture to the whole beach. Kev shook his head, trying to think of a different way of asking for the planet's name. Moments like this made him hate only knowing one language. Kev looked around the beach, trying to find something to give him an idea.

His eyes landed on a stick. He grabbed it quickly, and drew a large circle in the sand, hoping that this planet was circular, and then pointed at it and shrugged again. He pressed his fist into his chest again, sincerely hoping that it worked this time.

Kev-Mak-Tarr seemed to be stating that it meant something else. It grabbed a stick, and drew out a circle. What did the circle mean? What was this Alien trying to ask?

Well, it had first pointed to the ground, and clarified that whatever it was wondering about was circular. Arius could not think of anything specific on the breach that what circular and dealt with the ground.

Suddenly, Lamont had an epiphany and realized that Kev-Mak-Tarr was inquiring about the planet. That made sense; it had probably just arrived here, and was confused.

Arius's face lit up with excitement, having discovered what the Alien was wondering about.

"Portal Breach" Arius stated, pointing to the circular drawing on the sand.

Kev nodded as Ary pointed at the circle and said something else. They had a small speed bump in communication, but thankfully, it had been overcome.

Kev tilted his head. '.....Por...ta......Brea? Weird name for a planet.' He thought to himself. He 'sounded' it out a few more times.

"Porta Brea?" Kev 'said' to Ary, as a way of clarifying that this was indeed the word for this planet.
